the way Barbossa made a face of exasperation when Jack went flying from Becketts ship to the Pearl in At World's End
how many times has smth like that happened? how many times has Barbossa had to witness this in their youth? how many times did it go wrong at first and Barbossa have to save Jack?

No such thing as coincidence: Jack Sparrow x reader - part 17
Tumblr media
Summary: You reach the island your treasure is on, but someone else made it first.
The trip was uneventful after the fight with Davy Jones. The ship had fallen to silence amongst the crew.
Will swore to Elizabeth that once he was reunited with his father, they would wed.
Barbossa kept a close eye on Jack, who in turn kept his eye on you. Your focus was on the compass. The only words Jack heard from you were directions.
There had been no sign of land for hours and daylight was becoming short.
The wind blew through the sails and the ship would creak every so often.
"Are yer certain we're goin' in the right direction?" Barbossa asked after a long stream of silence.
"I'm following the compass. Anyway, of course he'd hide the treasure somewhere unique. It would be too easy otherwise." You remained focused on the compass.
"That be true." Gibbs tried to settle the slightly tense air.
"Jack, we be wasting our time."
Jack said nothing and sailed onward. Barbossa rolled his eyes and left for the deck.
"I'm sorry if I worried you, Jack." You said, finally saying something different to him.
"I forgive you, love." He said softly. "Soon you'll have your treasure, you can live a life of luxury and stay clear from pirates."
"Why would I do that?" You turned to look at him for the first time in hours.
"You'd be safe." He looked back at you.
"I have pirate blood in me. I've tasted freedom. I don't think finding my father's treasure will change that. I was hoping I could stay here... with you."
Jack's lips twitched up into a smirk.
"Love, you can stay as long as you like."
You smiled back at him.
"Land ahead!" Gibbs shouted across the ship.
You turned to take a look. Amongst the thick fog ahead you could see an island. A large island covered in greenery.
"Stations!" Jack hollered.
Men ran left and right to their proper places.
Sailing through the fog left little to be seen other than the land ahead of you.
"Queen Anne's Revenge." You spotted her sailing a good distance from shore.
"Blackbeard." Jack gritted his teeth.
The Pearl anchored and everyone headed down to to deck. A boat was lowered into the water below.
"Watch the Pearl." Jack told Gibbs as he helped you climb down into the boat. Will and Elizabeth already in. Barbossa got in line next.
"Aye, Captain. Signal if help is required."
"We'll be fine." Jack muttered quietly. Gibbs didn't seem to hear him.
Once Hector had climbed into the boat, Jack climbed down and sat next to you.
You held the key in the palm of your hand and stared at it.
"All we have to do is stop Blackbeard. How hard can that be?" You eyed Jack.
"Trust me, love, you haven't seen everything he can do yet." He spoke in a low tone of voice. Everyone was looking at one another.
The boat drifted along the foggy water, soon enough the Pearl began to fade into the clouds. You could barely see her anymore. The boat reached the beach and one by one everyone climbed out. You tucked the key down your top and pulled out the compass.
"This is our only way of finding the treasure."
You opened it up and watched the needle flicker. It spun around several times before focusing right ahead of you. You looked up in the direction and took a deep breath. Jack came to stand beside you, his dark brown eyes never leaving your form as he stood nice and close.
"Let's go, love."
You nodded softly and lead the way, the rest followed.
The path ahead was blocked by thick jungle, both captains used their swords to make way for you all to pass through.
The compass remained quite straight forward for most of the way, only steering you slightly. That was until you came upon a large ridge. A river ran down below, a harsh and cold waterfall gushing from your right. No bridge in sight.
"The compass points ahead." You told the group.
Jack peered over the edge and made a face of disgust at the fall. It was a long way down.
"Go round?" Elizabeth suggested.
"That would take too much time." Barbossa spat, rolling his eyes.
You peered down the stream.
"Down and up." You pointed to the cliff side further down the river, with skill it could be climbed.
"How do we get down?" Swann asked
"We jump..."
"I ain't jumpin'" Barbossa hollered.
"We'll jump." Jack pointed between you and him.
"We'll go too." Will offered.
"You go with him, we'll jump. You can all catch up later." Jack smiled as he gestured to Hector.
"Going around will waste time!"
"That's why we will jump." Jack placed his hand on you shoulder and guided you backwards slowly to the edge. "We'll find Blackbeard, find the treasure, wait for your arrival and everyone gets their share."
"Jack-" Will took a step forward.
You and Jack turned around and dove off the side of the cliff. You felt the wind whip past your face, suddenly you were engulfed in cold water. Once you got your bearings you swam up, coming face to face with Jack once your head was above water. You smiled at him before looking up at the cliff. Your three friends peering over the edge.
Jack grinned and waved before catching your attention and swimming to the other side.
"He's mad." Elizabeth sighed.
"She must be too." Barbossa sneered. "Come on then, the long way round." He walked alongside the cliff side, his companions following behind.
You looked up at the cliff side.
"Right... it looked easier from up there."
"Everything looks easy from a distance." Jack added in thought.
You took a good grip on some of the ledges and hoisted yourself up, grabbing at some more higher up. Your feet left the ground as you began to climb. Jack began to copy your steps as you put some distance between you and the first floor beneath you.
When you reached the top you hoisted yourself up onto the cliff and offered your hand to Jack. He grasped it and you helped pull him up.
The pair of you dusted yourselves off and you opened up the compass once again.
"Right, this way." You began to march in a diagonal path from where you stood. Jack staggered behind you in that drunken walk he did.
Ahead was more jungle, but the path a little bit clearer. In the sand you could see footprints.
"They must have gone this way. Probably went around like Barbossa and the others." You followed the footprints.
"Blackbeard thinks we're dead, he's in no rush."
"He'll be sorry for dropping me off the side of his ship though."
"Aye, I'll make him sorry." Jack grinned at you.
"You're very sweet, Jack. I'm glad we met." You smiled softly at him.
"As am I, love." Jack came up beside you and pulled you closer to him. He kept you under his arm as you both walked on. Jack was happy. It had been a long time since he felt this happy.
"A cave?" You eventually came to a stop in front of a huge opening in the side a mountain.
"A hat?" Jack went over to a rock where a hat sat. It was familiar to him.
"Angelica's hat?" She had worn it only once in your presence. "Why is it here?"
"A clue?"
"A sign." You mumbled. "They went through here." You walked closer to the opening of the cave. "Perhaps we should wait for the others." You suggested, turning to face Jack.
Jack picked up Angelica's hat and shook his head at you.
"We'll leave something for them, we go on." He handed you the hat and marched into the darkness, waving over his shoulder for you to follow him. You stayed close behind him.
Once you got a little further in a tunnel presented itself to you all lit up.
"Jack?"
"Yes, love?"
"Can I hold your hand?" You looked at him, your face dripping with concern. It was the two of you against Blackbeard's crew. This tunnel was sure to take you to your fate.
"Course ya can." He held his hands out and wiggled his fingers at you. Smiling softly, you reached out and grasped it, keeping a tight hold on the hat with your free hand.
The two of you began your trek into the mountain.

No such thing as coincidence: Jack Sparrow x reader - part 18
Tumblr media
Summary: It’s time to get what’s rightfully yours... right after you get past Blackbeard.
The tunnel was long and full of turns, yet there was no diversion, it just kept going. The path remained lit the entire way and you wondered what lay ahead. A whole life story had travelled this island to put away a treasure his daughter may never actually find, despite possessing the key to said treasure.
The tunnel led to a large stone staircase, a slight dripping sound could be heard from up there somewhere.
Jack placed a foot on the first step and tried to peer up them, hoping he could see something. The grunt he gave in dissatisfaction indicated he couldn't see anything.
"Come on, we can't waste time. This is the only way to go." You squeezed his hand and lead the way.
Your footsteps echoed throughout the tunnel with every step you took. You couldn't hear anything else.
As you went round the bend of the stairs, light filtered through the tunnel slightly from the opening at the top. You couldn't quite see anything yet, but you hears voices. One of which was most certainly Blackbeard.
"They're through there." You whispered to Jack.
Jack let go of your hand and gently pushed past you, pulling out his sword.
You followed Jack up the last remaining stairs and through the opening.
Before you lay one of the most beautiful sights you had ever laid eyes on. Inside the mountain was, what could only be described as, a garden.
The grass was a deep green, flowers were spotted all over the place, the trees stood tall with large branches. There was a hole up above that allowed natural light to come in.
"Wow." You were awe struck.
Jack grabbed your arm gently and pulled you to the side, your bodies being hidden by one of the large trees.
Peeking around the trunk You could see the pirates.
Blackbeard and Angelica were stood on a podium of sorts, in front of them was a chest. The chest was mostly wooden, apart from intricate gold designs running along its edges.
"We take it back to the ship and work something out there." Blackbeard hissed. At his feet lay a broken sword, the blade snapped in two. "I should have known she had the key."
"Its alright, father, we have the chest." Angelica tried to console him.
Captain Teach reached for the chest and went to pick it up, but was stopped in tracks.
"Don't touch that!" Jack called out.
"You!" Blackbeard turned to look at Jack sharply. "You dove into the ocean. You should be with Jones!"
"Fortunately for me, I have a crew who would go to the ends of the world to being me back." He grinned. "Or at least, to being her back."
You stepped out to where you could be seen.
Angelica gasped at the sight of you. Blackbeard less than pleased.
"Next time you try to kill someone," you reached for the key around your neck. "Take their possessions first."
Blackbeard glared at you, but then rather suddenly began to laugh.
You frowned.
"What are the two of you going to do?" Edward looked to the side where some of his crew were standing. They quickly drew their weapons and pointed them at you and Jack.
"Ah." Jack stared at the sharp blade in front of him.
"Who says it's just the two of em!"
Barbossa, Will and Elizabeth were standing at the entrance, weapons drawn.
You smiled at them.
"Hand me the key and no one dies." Blackbeard stepped down from the podium and held his hand out in your direction.
You glanced at Jack who was looking at you, he shook his head subtly.
"That treasure was left to me. This key belongs to me." You stepped forwards. "I'll only share it with those on the Pearl."
"Y/N-" Jack spoke with a warning tone.
"If I kill you, who gets it then?" Blackbeard asked menacingly.
"Jack does."
You swung your sword which scratched Blackbeard's hand, making him drop his sword and pull his hand back. You gave him a push and ran for the chest.
With their captain down, the crew became angry and began to fight. Angelica ran to her father amongst the newly made madness.
Jack, trying not to clash swords with anyone, ran straight after you. You had the chest and he wanted to see to it that you got is safely.
"Back to the Pearl?"
"Probably want to sort this out first." Jack pointed to the chaos.
Blackbeard got back to his feet, with help from Angelica, and picked up his sword. He looked straight at you and began closing the distance. You held your sword out, ready to fight.
Jack took the chest from you and watched intently as Edward approached.
"I never should have trusted you." You hissed.
"Sparrow did try to tell you, dear."
"I know. I should have listened." You said sadly.
"Hand over the chest and you leave with your lives." His eyes flicked to Jack.
"No. I am the daughter of Roger Harper, the ghost captain of the Phoenix. He left this for me and I want it. It's all I have." You felt a tear fall. "I won't let you take this from me."
"Lass, I'm not giving you a choice."
"Then I'll kill you." You looked him in the eye.
"You won't kill me." He sounded confident.
"You don't know what I'll do."
Blackbeard took slow steps in your direction. You followed his movements, keeping him in front of you. He swung his sword, you blocked it.
He swung again.
You blocked.
You swung.
He blocked.
The fight against his crew was raging on around you, but Jack and Angelica were the only witnesses to this duel.
You stepped forwards, he stepped back.
You swung more violently, he saw that coming.
Every move you had, he saw and blocked. It was almost like he was reading your mind.
"So predictable." He chuckled.
You lashed out and gave it your all, but he stopped every strike. No matter what you did you couldn't harm him.
Jack had a terrible feeling and lowered the chest. He placed it by his feet and took a step forwards.
"Give up, lass." Blackbeard sneered.
"No! I won't-!"
BANG
You stood still, eyes wide and mouth agape.
Blackbeard the same with a furrowed brow.
His sword fell to the floor with a clatter on the hard stone.
"What have you done?!" Angelica yelled.
You turned your head up to the podium. Jack had his pistol out, pointed at Blackbeard. Smoke filtered out of the barrel.
Blackbeard looked down to his chest where blood sputtered through his clothes. He wobbled on his feet before he fell back. Angelica rushed to his side, tears flowing.
You stared at Jack.
"You... shot him?"
"It was watch you die or end him, love." He looked at you with a sorrowful gaze.
You put your sword down and walked over to him. You said nothing as you wrapped your arms around him and nuzzled into his chest. Jack pulled you close to him and held you. He had nothing witty to say, no joke on his mind. Only thoughts of you ran through his head. You would be in Blackbeard's place had he let him live much longer.
"Blackbeard used black magic." Jack muttered. "He would have got the better of you had he continued on."
"You saved me."
"Always will, love."
You pulled away from him.
The area around you had become quiet, looking around you saw the fighting had stopped.
Barbossa had his sword pointed at a kneeling man. Will had two more at gun point and Elizabeth had her sword at the ready should anyone else try to move.
"I suggest ye retreat back to yer ship. We'll give ye a head start." Barbossa hissed in anger.
Everyone, apart from Angelica, left immediately.
Jack stepped down to where Angelica cradled her father's body. He reached out to grab her gently by the shoulders, but she didn't like that and tried to push him away. She made very little noose as she wept.
You knelt down by the chest and picked it up slowly, you cradled it in your arms and closed your eyes. You felt close to the father you never actually knew.
"Why did you kill him? We could have figured something out." Angelica sobbed.
"He would have killed my darling Y/N. I couldn't stand for that." Jack mumbled.
"You love her?"
"...Yes. I do."
"You're a good man, Jack, but I won't forgive you for this."
"I wouldn't expect you to."
"Please, go." She looked at him with tear filled eyes.
Jack stood up and turned to you. You looked at him with a sorrowful gaze.
"Back to the Pearl." Jack ordered.
You kept a tight hold onto the chest and followed Jack and the others out, looking over your shoulder at Angelica just before you left.
You picked up her hat which you dropped when the battle started and placed it on a rock by the entrance. You left without saying a word.
Jack took you all the long way round back to the ships. Silence had fallen over the group and you dare not say anything. Jack Sparrow looked as of he was deep in thought.
The Queen Anne's Revenge was stilled docked where other been earlier. The crew aboard watched from deck as you five climbed into the boat you arrived on and sailed off.
Gibbs had called out when he spotted the boat come through the fog.
The crew helped you all into deck, Will taking the chest from you so Barbossa could help you up.
"Thank you." You smiled at him.
Will placed the chest down and the crew began to gather around it. You looked at Jack who excused himself to his quarters.
"I'll be right back." You told them, their disappoint made clear.
You knocked on the doors and heard Jack's voice.
"Come in."
You went inside.
"Jack?"
"Yes, love?"
He was standing on the far side of the room staring at nothing.
"Don't you want to see me open it? You'll get first share."
"You go on ahead, love." He gave you a small smile.
"What's on your mind?"
"Blackbeard." He muttered.
"He's dead now."
"Yes. I killed Angelica's last remaining family."
"Yes... it's my fault."
"Your fault?" His head snapped up to look at you. "Its not your fault."
"You didn't have to shoot him!"
"You'd be in his place if I hadn't." Jack came over.
"You've gone soft." You teased lightly.
Jack gave a grin and leaned in close to you.
"You've made me this way." He smiled. "Angelica will be fine, I know that. You best get out there and open that chest."
You reached for this hand and gave him a small tug. His feet began to follow you out.
The crew all cheered as you made your way to the chest.
"Ready?" You chuckled.
The crew gave a loud cheer.
You took the key off from around your neck and looked at it for just a second. You picked your lips in anticipation as you slotted the key into the lock and turned it.
You heard the lock pop open and took a deep breath.
What had your father left you?
What was he famous treasure everyone sought after?
You grasped the lid of the chest and slowly pushed it open.
The crew leaned in wanting to peek.
"Is it gold?"
"Jewels?"
"Money?"
You stared at the contents.
"Something personal." You smiled.
