I'm imagining someone higher up, who oversees the handling of multiple pilots, watching how a handful of new pilots settle in. Maybe it's the trauma, or the repeated neural link up, or whatever combination of medication they're all on, but they'll all wear down eventually - it's an inevitable part of the process. Better practices might drag it out, and some will last a long time before they wear out completely, but it doesn't take long for the first signs of wear to show.

Some are going to become apathetic - disinterested, but alert and aware all the same. They're a little careless maybe, but capable of making their own choices when out on a job or a mission. Others are going to shut down, they're going to lose the will to do anything for themselves - maybe blindly obedient, maybe entirely unpredictable, or something ungodly combination of the two. Some pilots are fiercely loyal, others viciously cruel. Some are going to get very attached to their mechs, and others will scream and bite as they're brought to the hangar. Such is life.

Not all pilots shut down, though. Some are going to wind themselves tighter and tighter as the pressure builds, and they're going to pose a different kind of problem. They might seem better adjusted at first - they're friendly! Talkative and cheerful despite whatever they're dealing with out in the field, decidedly preferable to many than those who withdraw from those around them, initially. They're always agitated, though - always pulled so tight, a pin would bounce off of them, and that energy needs somewhere to go, unless you plan to sedate them any time they're off duty, and that isn't always practical - the cost, for one, and the toll it takes on their body for another. Until they snap, - and they will snap - the sheer energy of these pilots is useful, if you know how to direct it.

Do you think some mech pilots also end up super talkative? Like yeah I know we all see the dehumanised trauma pilot who barely exists outside of their mech but have you considered the hyperactive, hyperverbal mech pilot who's so used to having someone to talk to at all times, so used to the perpetual company, the quiet presence of Something else in their mind? Who just Won't Shut Up and needs someone with them, something to Do, at all times lest they tear themselves apart trying to soothe the agitation that seems to rise exponentially when they're left alone?

I think its… kinda of odd and a little uncomfortable how much JK… HATED Draco. idk if it was from the start or maybe as time went on but the more I hear and look into the writing of Draco, regardless of how interesting his struggles were and how well it slowly developed… JK kept writing the narrative and there fore manipulate the audience to hate him. even when he was redeeming himself or at least TRYING to it just... seems odd for a grown woman to hate her own character that much when they were literally written to be a brainwashed misguided child.

Idk if her excuse was that it was totally Harry's perspective and thats why or if it was her own personal opinions about her own character but it's just so.... weird.

I agree. What particularly bothers me is the condescending and sexist and heteronormative remarks she's made about fans of the character and about the actor who played him. She seems to really struggle to cope with anyone reacting to her work in a way different from what she intended. That post on the wizarding world website (originally pottermore) where she said (I'm paraphrasing here) that Draco's fans were just girls who thought Tom Felton was attractive was so disrespectful.

It should go without saying but it's an incredibly sexist comment to assume that women who like a character are just silly girls whose brains fell out because they saw an attractive man. It implies that all his fans are women (not true), that all women are attracted to men (not true) that all female fans attracted to men are attracted to the character or actor (not true) and that female fans who do find the actor or character attractive are somehow lesser or incapable of thinking and analyzing and acknowledging the things Draco did wrong (not true) and that the only reason people who watched the movies responded to the character was because of Tom Felton's looks not his acting ability (not true). All these things are both untrue and offensive to suggest. For someone who claims to fight against sexism she sure spends a lot of time repeating sexist narratives. Maybe instead of attacking trans people she could work on her own sexism...

And yeah I genuinely don't understand why she seems mystified that people would view Draco differently than they view an unrepentant Death Eater like Bellatrix Lestrange when SHE is the one who wrote him the way she did. She could've made him love being a Death Eater but she didn't. And then she got mad when people reacted to that distinction. I've got something in my drafts somewhere going through the post on Wizarding World (formerly Pottermore) that she wrote about him because she gives even more (actually pretty cool) details about how Draco changed postwar and abandoned his previous beliefs...and then goes on this bizarre self righteous rant about how he didn't get redeemed and fans who likes him are dumb. After literally a paragraph before talking about his redemption arc. It's so strange.

And I agree it's extremely frustrating because to me Draco is one of the most interesting characters in the story with one of the most compelling arcs. Precisely because of his flaws and how he gradually becomes a better person and makes better decisions while still remaining imperfect. He's a great character with a great story but she seems totally unaware of what she wrote and actively hostile to people who enjoyed the character and even towards the character himself which stops him getting to live up to his full potential. Lowkey wonder if after he became so popular post book 6 maybe she reduced his "screentime" in book 7 out of spite or something. I have no proof whatsoever of that but I do wonder.

🎋 I feel that since the blue night at the temple, Bon has (understandably) been pretty closed off with communicating, exploring, accepting and expressing his emotions. This might also be in combination with how he was raised and how he copes with his stress and trauma. Having you there to gently walk him through it and support him has massively helped him cope with the trauma he gained that night. The scars aren't fully healed, and they might never be, but you help sooth his pain.

🎋 While Ryuuji would be slightly disappointed and likely a bit upset if you didn't support his goal to kill Satan because you were worried for him, but he would understand your point of view. You love him and watching him throw himself at the demon of all demons would be terrifying to watch; not knowing whether you'd be able to see him again after he leaves to accomplish his goal.

🎋 If you do support it, however, Bon would be probably be a lot more open with you about his future plans and will definitely include you in them. Although, he swears he won't take you with him when he goes to kill Satan. He doesn't want to see you get hurt, he can't see you get hurt. What if you died? He can't lose you too.

🎋 You never have to worry about getting your lunch with Ryuuji because when he grabs one for himself, he gets you something as well. "hi is this where i go for when i need to let my insane ramblings out of my system. Well anyway im starting to think the point of the lost ballade shuffle is moreso these characters exorcising their past traumas. i dont know alot about yuzuru or niki so i cant really speak on them but for tsumugi rei and madara itd make sense since the lyrics of the song seems to imply that They are the lost children. they are the lost children who have endured all this hardships. rei, tsumugi, madara and yuzuru had rather abusive and dehumanizing upbringings (again idk niki lore</3). theyre lost children robbed off their lives. i wonder if their scenes when the spirits came loose showcases how they coped about it in a way too? like mama is seen interacting with many of the members, which is fitting considering his whole deal being related to "having connections," since his family followed the shinkai cult and made the wishes come true. tsumugi seems alot more lonely, carrying his weight by himself to the point where it seems his body is beginning to give out. which is consistent with tsumugis character and how he often self-sacrifices and doesnt let others in much. rei seems alot more grand, focusing on the bigger picture and not himself, analyzing the situation to better know how to approach. such as him looking at the tomb thing with a more calculative gaze, and then giving that same look to the radio tower, implying that maybe thats whats been causing all of this. this is also consistent with reis character in how hes viewed by many as a savior. a prodigy that can fix everyones struggles, without stopping to view rei as his own individual the song itself feels very much like. People who are clinging to bad habits. wandering around aimlessly because with how they were raised this is all they know. never telling anyone of their hardships. never letting anyone in. completely isolating themselves, because the people who were meant to raise them never taught them how to live, so all they know is "watching over the world" and then in the end they exorcised themselves of their pasts, not letting that define them anymore. u can see it esp w tsumugi in how, minus the hush towards the camera, he never once smiled during the mv until the purified spirits were floating around him like hes finally at peace im so normal about this i swear"

im just thinking abt like. sam (almost) never hits back. only under extreme duress. and i really can't imagine him lashing out at partners either, maybe yelling but never physical. and trying to understand why, like does he actually think he's better than dean by not punching? does he seek therapy at stanford? does he just think he deserves it and feels like he's at the bottom of the totem pole everywhere he goes?

and so yeah i think. idk. violence is sooo normal to sam and dean. i think sam doesnt Want to hit back cause its counterproductive and unnecessary and he prefers to talk things through, like that’s just not how he deals with things, what use is hitting back going to do? like then they’d just get into a physical fight. which i dont think he wants. but also 100% even if not consciously i think sam believes he deserves it or at least that its Okay when it happens to him. he literally doesnt even question it. especially like… after s4. i think he tends to just accept deans treatment cause hes got this belief deep down that he’ll always deserve it, and also even if dean isn’t always right he always somehow ends up being right, and….. so awful.

also i do actually think sam went to therapy at stanford but thats just cause i find it fun to think about. like what did he say…. how do you even word the trauma of that upbringing. not sure if he actually took any valuable lessons from it or benefitted from it post short-term.

but like.....this doesnt look like a battle anymore? it looks like their both doing their roles for miquella. malenia starts to blossom and radahn just. kneels the whole time. he listens to her, waits for her, and accepts the rot? like idk how this lines up with everything, maybe war is a necessity (many outer gods respond to death, blood, suffering, etc) ? maybe it has to do with getting radahns soul prepared? maybe rot left his body in a state miquella needed it to be in? or put it in a state where radahn could keep the stars at bay?

"when malenia allowed the scarlet rot to bloom" was malenia blossoming not a last resort to defeat radahn? was it something planned from the start? if thats true then theres way more truth to her proud "i have never know defeat." if it was a battle intended to have no victors, by both parties, if radahn was working with her, then yeah. that makes a lot more sense than "i (technically) have never know defeat...i won the battle okay? (coping, badly)"

i think theres less animosity between these siblings than is understood by others in the universe. miquella spoke of a vow with radahn when they were younger, i think more of this has been planned but i dont know exactly how these all piece together and why characters made the actions they did

you know i guess its for two reasons one the fact its part of her like introduction and how they try to make the character more sympathetic and because they do wish to keep a specific moral center for xena but like.. her whole i was an evil warlord but i didnt kill women and children moral high ground is like soo funny especially when so many pivotal episodes show she um clearly clearly did and also like is that much better.. and while u can certainly read this as perhaps her own self justification this is maybe a lie she clings to because even she is not fully ready to cope with all the things she has done and so on and i do think thats a read u can have especially in callisto episodes cuz like callistos living proof this is you know not true even if xena wants to say it was one time all she likes but i do think the awkwardness with addressing some of these things and the regular waffling about well exactly how bad xena ever was that can sometimes vary from episode to episode is sort of fascinating... i mean i do really like conceptually that she started to get a bit softer hearted you know things were breaking through for her and she was realizing she couldnt keep going on like this in the gauntlet but it is again a weird very awkward shorthand that feels like its always dodging the question and also feels like this inherent contradiction in some ways with the handling of gender and evil warriors in general that her and callisto are some of the only evil women warlords and they have no women in their armies and like idk why would xena have this code to not kill women like whats up with that why would she assume none of the women could take up arms and fight etc it really well theres a lot of things going on

Silco for the character ask game?

1. How I feel about this character - Silco is a great example of terrible coping mechanisms and a good villain. I like how his relationship with Jinx leans into the theme of “family isnt always blood or healthy” because they I believe that they do care about each other but that manifests in forms that are unhealthy for Jinx and dangerous for those around them. A large part of Silco’s care is supporting and protecting Jinx regardless of whatever she does and I love how the show showcases how thats not a helpful or healthy mindset! Also I like Silco as a counterpoint to Vander of freeing the Undercity but at the expense of its inhabitants and the community that Vander had lead. The villain ever. Also his dinner scene with Vi was fantastic.

2. All the people I ship with this character - I don’t ship Silco with anyone! I headcanon him as aroace bc if he isnt then why is one of his main colors green???

3. My non-romantic OTP - I’d love to see more of Silco and Sevika’s relationship! I want to know Sevika’s perspective on Shimmer and how that’s affected the Undercity. Also you can’t tell me that she and Silco weren’t gossipers.

4. My unpopular opinion on this character -Silco being horrible for Jinx and doing his best aren’t mutually exclusive takes. Silco was advising Jinx in a way that turned her into the worst version of herself because thats how he saw things and how he coped. He’s working from his own perspective and that perspective is a deeply flawed one. It doesn’t mean he didn’t care about Jinx, it makes him realistic. Idk I remember that a lot of people online took his behavior as an all or nothing about him caring for Jinx and that’s never been true. Silco cared for Jinx but he’s also Silco, for better or for worse.

5. One thing I wish would happen in canon - I wish we saw more of his plan for the Undercity once it was free. What was his plan for if/when he got what he wanted?? I also wish we saw more of him talking about Vander and how Vander had impacted him beyond the murder attempt.

does jinx genuinely care about zaun in your opinion? for me when it comes to jinx the place doesnt matter, but moreso the people in it. jinx's attachment to zaun is bcs of silco and vi, but one is dead and jinx begins wanting to let go of the other (not that she completely would ofc) so now she has little to no reason to be attached to zaun. ofc its the place she grew up but it doesnt change how she sees everybody as her enemy, including ppl of zaun. she doesnt feel safe anywhere. her only safety was vi and silco and thats gone (unless someone put her and vi in a room together & have them talk things out).

i do think she internalised that revolutionary or whatever ideology both because it's people she is so connected to and reliant on who fed her that and also just within herself as a fact. I don't think she gives a fuck when it's between her own motivations and wants and the bigger picture jsjsjsk she probably does identify with zaun to an extent but I doubt she cares about the ideal of it like silco would have - this might change in s2, who knows, but based on what we've seen so far I think it's still true. like I said before, jinx never seems to be actually an active agent in those zaun scenes, she's kind of removed from it.

also just to say. idk why people say talking things out between vi and jinx is necessary like I don't think you can internal family systems your way out of terrorism, you either accept your sister is gonna be a terrorist and cope morally or you don't kskskksj

Theres something that gets me thinking when im reading about Jason which is the differences between Jason and AK!Jason

Its kinda similar to that post you made a while ago about how they are different people and therefore will act differently and that is sooo true

Like first of all, the part of his death

I like how its that thing that completely changes Jason because while Jason's rage was [intensified] from the Lazarus Pit — hallucinations, physical and mental modification and just an overall change in youre whole being, he never really changed being the way he is

But AK!Jason is driven completely by emotions, its ten times more raw and fragile since he never died in the first place, so there was no mysterious magic soup that changed his brain chemistry, he got instead (by his words) filled with rage and pain that he cant take it out of him, since basically he grew up with all the torture from his teens to adult life basically (When the human brain is developing!! How nice!!)

AND THEN MY DEAR I SAY HOW whilst Jason did die, he came back to life, he was given a second chance to live again, whereas AK!Jason cant, because he never died, yet he was killed in the most brutal way known to man, so he was killed and left like that, like something hollow sent out to the world to survive.

Jason chose his path by himself, although it'd be hard, he could (and did in a way) go back to his family, but he doesnt agree with Bruce's methods of doing things so he decided to do it the way he deems effective.

On the other hand, AK!Jason never wanted to be in that cell confined for years knowing nothing else but pain, and no one knew that AK!Jason was alive either but he believed people just thought so because they abandoned him. He was completely on his own and saw no other choice but to do what he had to do.

I guess its also why i like AK!Jason x reader fanfics a lot, i think its interesting how people insert a character into the life of someone who feels so beyond help. Thats also why youre my fav AK!jason writter honestly

Here's this boy who everyone thinks is dead. They moved on, found ways to cope and 'honor' his memory. But he's not dead. He's not dead and every piece of vile trash Gotham has ever spit it out is taking out their aggression on him for months and months.

Even with all the awful and the abuse and things that make you sick to think about, he has hope. He believes Batman is going to come from him, that if he's brave enough and holds out for long enough, he'll be saved. Until he doesn't. Until there's a new Robin.

And if Jason isn't Robin? If he isn't struggling and fighting to withstand torture as Robin? Then what is he doing? What's the point? Is he even anything now other than what Joker says he is?

Both Jasons had hope. But AK is the one that had it wrenched away from his hands one broken finger after another. Truly, he was broken down until he had nothing left and all there was what Joker made of him.

Except that's not quite true. He still had the strength to escape, still was able to make a deal with Deathstroke, still was able to claw and scratch and turn himself into something new.

It's why I adore him. There's something about the indominable human spirit he portrays and continues to portray. He could have won, during Arkham Knight, he could have let Scarecrow torment Batman on live TV and he could have used every skill and coin and connection he had to take over Gotham. But at the core of who he is, Jason Todd is good.

So, he helps, both Jasons do. It doesn't matter if you agree if what he does is right or how he does it is moral. He saves people, he cleans up the streets, and he does it all from the view of a victim who doesn't want anyone to be able to commit the horrors that were committed to them.

And now if you add the reader into the mix of all of that? Someone he loves? Somewhere between that cell in Arkham and him donning the suit, I think those feelings are going to get twisted. It's not that he loves you any less, it's just that it feels different. Love turns into a desire to possess, and not out of a need to stifle who you are, but out of a need to keep you safe.

He's seen the worst of Gotham, god forbid that ever comes near you. He's going to do whatever it takes to ensure you remain untouched, and untainted, even by him.

i think one of the most annoying aspects of being masculine or gnc if you're a woman/afab in general, is that its so fucking unbelievable to so many people that you just enjoy and prefer presenting yourself in a masculine way that they must cope and immediately assume that it must be out of insecurity or like internalized misogyny, and you're just trying to hide yourself but if you finally embrace your inner femininity that you clearly hate you will be normal again. bros first off im not an 11 years old in some eww being fem is icky and im not like Other Girls phase and believe it or not i have not a single doubt in my mind if someone would give me a full princess makeover i'd still look awesome, i just wouldnt like it and i wouldnt feel comfortable because its not true to myself because i was like idk assigned cargo pants at birth. thats just what i like. now can we please be normal about me. and then they still dont get it because there is no way you can be different than what society set in stone without something being wrong with you that has to be fixed
