Historians trying to claim that two historical figures weren't sleeping together because "masculinity was different back then" and "the courtly language was more flowery" are so funny to me. Like yes they do in fact have a point about that, things that would be weird or inappropriate now maybe weren't back then. But almost every time I see that claim about a historical figure, I go look at some of their actual letters/quotes and then it's ALWAYS shit like: literally calling the other man his wife, talking about how well the other guy knows his dick, etc. Like yeah masculinity WAS different back then, but also, they were kissing in public what more do you WANT.
