so i was reading a paper that someone wrote on a study they did on BL/yaoi fans and fandom (i didn't know a lot about it until like . . . this year), and it had me thinking. some years ago i made an observation on female obsession with gay romances in popular entertainment where I said that I didn't think fans were all interacting with this content from a fetishistic perspective, as much as fetishism and homophobia were common.

as much as there have been straight men that fetishize lesbian relationships, i also thought that perhaps bisexual or straight women's interaction with BL could be a bit more nuanced than entitlement to gay men and their experiences. i thought that there was an element of detachment that gay romances gave women, where men were humanized and female characters did not have the burden of humanizing him. it was an avenue where women and girls could enjoy their attraction to men or what they loved about men without being visible, without any romantic or sexual demands being put on them. it was a way to explore not only their own sexualities, but also their weird (in regard to the predator-prey situation) oftentimes tragic attraction to men. it was a projection of an ideal relationship with a man, one based on true equality in an especially semantic sense.

i think some of these fascinations can be classified as more voyeuristic than fetishistic, especially when they aren't about injecting the female experience with men into the gay experience (like making gay sex more heterosexual in descriptions) and are much more focused on fictional characters/symbols than parasocial relationships with gay influencers/celebrities. rather, some of them seem to be using the (sometimes idealized) gay experience to escape the female experience with men. men loving men (romantically/sexually) seems to be a purer version of male love that women hope to experience but oftentimes do not or cannot, given the homoerotic admiration and respect men hold for other men, but do not extend to women. therefore they opt to be voyeurs. not saying this is necessarily good or bad.

i'm not an avid participant in BL and won't go anywhere near yaoi, especially because of like . . . well everything about yaoi, but I do enjoy gay romance (and lesbian romance) stories, and which i gravitate to more varies according to whatever season of life I'm in on the bi-cycle XD. but i have noticed that i do enjoy these things differently, or rather, what i enjoy about them differs based on my own experiences with patriarchy. it is difficult to imagine het relationships outside the patriarchal hierarchical dynamics, even in fantasies. whereas, removing that relation feels . . . idk, safer, less stressful and more natural to me.

i'm just kind of thinking through things, like, sexuality (not orientation) can be really complex because of how much culture can influence it and the perception of self and I'm just wondering how much BL is escapism for women attracted to men.

no, i fully understand what you're saying and where you're coming from. over the last like. idk year and a half? ive been pretty vocal about my disappointment, distaste, and disagreement with a multitude of the choices she's made lately. i 100% agree that her silence on the subject of palestinian genocide (as well as many other human rights/social causes) is at best a sign of apathy and at worst a sign of support. especially when miss americana was all about her wanting to be more outspoken and be an activist. that all feels so incredibly performative now -- and has for a while. a lot of things that she's said and done since midnights, which is when i became more active in the tumblr swiftie community, have left a bad taste in my mouth for her as a person.

I do want to mention that future spouses can change, our readings are all based off someone's current trajectory, and things can and will change, so his fs will change as these changes take place. I would like to stress this, your fs changes over time, nothing in tarot is set in stone, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. my own fs readings are different to what I got 5 months ago, nothing's changed in my life apart from me, i've grown a bit, i'm different, I like slightly different things, and maybe some decisions I've made have changed the outcome of people i'm more likely to marry (also, i'd like to add that there's no absolute you will marry this exact person, the cards cannot ever tell you that, it'll just tell you the sort of person who'd be more inclined to marry out of all the other people you know/have met. Also, free will exists). If you're doing fs readings and then stressing out about a major decision in your life, wondering which one will lead to this person, don't worry, because tarot is only telling you what sort of person you're more inclined to marry if you make the choice you're more likely to make (you'll obviously know which choice you suppose you're more likely to make). in short, your fs changes, there's absolutely nothing you can do about that. there's a bunch of differing fs readings I got for celebrities, so I know that as time progresses and as they make different decisions, the person they're more likely to meet and marry changes, and a reading done, like 2 years ago wouldn't give the same results as now.

2. Personal bias as a tarot reader can affect the outcome of your reading. If you strongly feel a certain way about something, you're more inclined to get a reading reflecting what you want to see. That's why sometimes some readers don't do reading on big events like elections and stuff, because their own personal convictions (and especially fears) can show up in the reading. I feel my fs readings about these f1 men are more likely to be accurate because I'm lesbian, I have no interest in who they date or marry, i'm only curious about my intuitive abilities, and I have no inclination towards readings about men's fs reflecting a certain type of girl, because I definitely don't care what particular type of girl they date, I have no, I suppose, 'vested interest'. It's hard to know whether these tarot readings have the reader's personal bias or not. It's not like personal bias shows up in every reading, but it CAN be present, and we have no way of knowing, because it's someone else's reading. I would like to mention when it comes to topics like this, it's harder for readers to get more accurate results, because it turns subjective very quickly. That's why readings for race results are more likely to be accurate than readings for a person's f1 future or their fs; if you want a certain thing to happen, or (consciously or subconsciously) expect a certain thing to happen, or even fear a certain thing happening, you can end up having your reading become slightly inaccurate due you subjectivity. We can't guarantee that any tarot reader isn't just reading this certain look onto charles' fs because they want it or they expect he'll date this sort of person.

3. Some readers are more intuitive than others, and we have no way of measuring it. Some readers are more inclined to read more accurate readings, while others are less inclined, and some readers are more inclined to read accurately about certain topics or in that certain instance they're doing a reading, whereas other times it's less accurate. For e.g., I did a reading on Max Verstappen's fs three weeks ago, and my cards just spewed bullshit, there was no coherency with the cards that came out, the deck was just spewing shit and wasn't intuitive at all, but I did it again today, and this time I got more of a reading. Three weeks ago, it was still the summer holidays, and Max had totally different energy back then, and then today, Max had a quali he's definitely not used to (it was disasterous compared to what he can achieve), so his energy is more "oh no, everything's terrible", and so when I did my reading (asking how he will meet his fs) I got the tower, the star, temperance, the empress, and the 6 of cups, which means he might meet her after some upheaval, and so he's going back to a place he loves and is familair with so that he can rest and re-cooperate, and he happens to strike a relationship there. This sort of reading is happening because of Max's current energy, and how redbull is turning out to be more and more of a disaster after every race, and so he feels a 'tower' moment, and he might deal with tower moments by going back home and resting among loved ones. Anyway, the point of that was that different readings can give you different results, and there's no way of knowing whether a tarot reader is presenting to you an intuitive reading, or whether their deck might've spewed complete shit. they might not even know that their cards was giving them random shit, they might not be intuitive enough to know, or they might not even know their deck can do this.

4. Also, this is a major, major thing. Tarot does not actively give you readings about people's looks in the way that some readers think they do. There are a lot of newer readers in f1tarot, and they might not know that there are actually certain things that tarot can and can't do. Tarot loves to describe 'energies', 'vibes', 'personalities', whatever you want to call it. If you ask for a appearance reading, and you get your cards, they'll describe the 'energy' around that person, rather than their actual looks. You can't describe someone's hair color and eye color from readings you get, even if you specifically ask your cards to describe the color, because that's not how tarot works. I rebelled against this when I was new to tarot, I love possibilities and refused to believe that tarot had preferences like this, I thought it was boxy and cagey. I soon realised that it's actually true, because the more appearance readings I did, the more I realised it's describing the vibe of the person's appearance, and that I couldn't draw colors out of the cards. For e.g., I had done a reading on my appearance (using traditional rider-waith tarot), and I got the king of wands, king of swords, and the emperor, five of cups, and the hanged man. The king of wands/swords, and the emperor reflected quite heavily on my personality, coz I am quite strongly a masculine sort of person (despite being a girl). The five of cups represented that I neglect my appearance (true, I don't care much about how I look, I don't take much time prepping my outfits), and the hanged man represented how I haven't really changed my style, and have had the same haircut since I was a teen. As you can see here, the 'personality' of my appearance was being described more than my actual appearance. I'm not a man, I don't have a beard like the emperor, I don't have light brown hair like the king of wands, my outfits aren't loose fitting and flowy like all 4 of characters in the cards, I don't dress in black like the five of cups. Some people think that the actual colors and images on your cards represent ow someone will look when you do an appearance reading, but that's really not the case. You cannot look at the images and figure out what color hair, eyes, skin, etc. someone has, even if you say to the cards "give me an appearance reading", tarot absolutely does not work like that, I didn't like it when I first realised, but that doesn't change that it's true. If you look at my reading, according to some, the king of wands would mean I have light brown hair (I have black hair), and the king of swords would mean I have paler skin (as swords is sharp and cold) (I am indian and have dark brown skin), and the some people would say that the king of swords could also mean I look grumpy and cold, but I actually a happy-go-lucky person who smiles a lot. The king of swords was just describing that i'm really logically minded (yk how some ppl are more emotional or logical (head or heart?), i'm more head-inclined than heart). You cannot get the tower or the devil card and say that a person has black hair, it's more likely that the cards are describing their striking and incredibly good looking appearance. Also, different decks have different images on the cards. My traditional rider-waith deck has the star being blonde, and another tarot reader's modern witch deck has their star having black hair. We both get the star to describe someone's appearance, but our stars look different. 😱 oh no. Fear not, the cards aren't telling us the person's hair color, it's telling us that the person in question is insanely beautiful and captures everyone's attention with their beauty (hence, 'the star'), and not that the person has black hair or blonde hair. Many new tarot readers, and especially ones in f1tarot, don't know that the cards can't describe someone's hair/eye/skin color, even if you ask for the person's appearance, tarot will always describe vibes.

Why is Louis relationship to alcohol and drugs so blacklisted in this fandom? I find his public promotion of it questionable. I don't wanna assume too much either because I know we don't know him personally. But just considering what we get to see about him and his life during tour for example I feel like this whole topic is weirdly untouched and kind of ignored in our fandom. Just to make it clear what im referring to here: we know for a fact that he drinks on stage, before and after the show, broke his arm twice and implied it had to do with a drunk state of mind, we see him at a pub all the time. He says in interviews that he lives very unhealthy. In almost every picture of him he either drinks or smokes. And this is not me making things up in my head. Louis himself talks about how much he drinks and that he does it to calm his nerves before a gig. He doesn’t hide it at all. At jimmy Fallon he had a vodka bottle backstage, too. He has vodka Red Bull during his concerts, a fan once managed to get his half empty cup after the show from stage and confirmed it. We see his behavior and we see his appearance and how he’s changed in the past 5 to 6 years. The guy from the snuts said in an interview how impressed he was by Louis and his drinking habits and that he just wouldn’t stop taking shots in on tour. If you know just a little bit about the consequences of long term alcohol consumption it’s hard to oversee it at this point. Of course we lack information because we don’t know him but I do think it's reasonable to talk about it more and to be skeptical especially since his fans are really young and impressionable. I just wanna say, I think we should be more open and more skeptical toward things like that and question things more even if it goes against of what we think of Louis and what we love him for. I think that should be possible since we have no problem to endlessly discuss his sexuality and romantic relationships, either. I already kinda expect that you either gonna ignore this or just gonna tell me that nothing of this is reasonable to do as a fan. But I just wanna give my thoughts. I do think it’s a serious problem. I don’t worry as in I’m scared for him, I just find it weird that it gets either downplayed or entirely denied by his fans for the most part.

Oh anon - I don't really know where to start with this. Anyone who thinks Louis' fans don't discuss his alcohol use haven't been paying attention to my anons, who bring this up quite often.

I struggle to respond seriously to an anon that contains the idea'we see him at a pub all the time' as a reason for concern. Both because we don't. And because it shows a lack of curiosity of drinking cultures and the roles pub play in culture. Even if we saw in a pub multiple times every week I'd find your comment really, really odd.

But I'm going to try and answer. Even if I'm also, ultimately going to say exactly the things you expect me to say. But the question that I'm going to answer is - what would it mean for fans to have serious and realistic discussions of alcohol and drugs.

The first thing I'm going to say is thatimagining Louis' fans as young and vulnerable and therefore somehow at risk by the fact that he drinks alcohol is an entirely unserious framing. It needs to be dismissed out of hand. The idea that popstars or other celebrities need to either live a constrained life or hide part of their life to avoid being a bad influence is an incredibly reactionary one.

I think the starting point of any discussion has to be touring. The reason that there's a high level of drink and drugs among touring musicians - isn't because of some kind of intrinsic decadence of the industry. It's that touring has very specific stressors and a structure that allows people to maintain a functional life while dealing with those stressors with a lot of drugs and alcohol.

There are risks with dealing with the stress of tour drugs and alcohol, and people who use drugs and alcohol in all kinds of way can realise that what they are doing is making things worse. I think we can say with some confidence that Louis is dealing with the stress of tour with alcohol (and probably drugs). But being able to say that doesn't actually tell us what impact the alcohol and drugs are having on his life.

If you're in an industry where drugs and alcohol is a common way to deal with stress, then those who are at risk of addiction are much more likely to become addicted. But it's important to underline that addiction is a much bigger and harder thing than using alcohol and drugs to deal with stress. And one of the biggest predictors of addiction is trauma.

The new documentary on the BBC about Matt Willis from Busted really underlines that. He is an addict and he is very committed to staying sober. But as a band they all drank a lot - one of his bandmates tells a story about throwing up in Matt Willis's suitcase. That guy was like 'I didn't realise how dark things are were for you' and still has alcohol on his rider today. To an observer Matt Willis and his bandmate would have looked the same - but they weren't fucking their life up in the same way. You can't tell an addict from how much you see them drinking - the whole point of addiction is a combination of compulsion and shame.

What does understanding all this mean for how we think about drugs and alcohol and 1D members? The first thing we need to do is acknowledge how high risk they all are. Any study of boybands will show that it's a profession with a very high risk of addiction.

To take that risk seriously is to acknowledge that it's always a possibility. There's always a possibility that they're in active addiction. There's often a possibility that they're recovery - when people disappear they might be in rehab (and if that was true that's really great - because obviously when people go to rehab it's better than the alternative).

To take the risk seriously means not to talk about it in a 'ewwww gross drinking won't anyone think of the children'. But instead: 'Addiction is really hard to deal with, and trauma is a huge contributor. I hope that any 1D member dealing with addiction has what they need'.

To take the risk seriously is to acknowledge that to say something is a risk means to deal with uncertainty. We know that they're at risk. We may learn more (and I think we have at times), but in the meantime all we can do is sit with the knowledge of the risks of the industry for people like them.

so the last time i talked about this type of stuff/the last time i got asks about stas and kat drinking was back in 2021/22 and any time i made the same argument i'm gonna make now, i got chewed out bc ppl misinterpreted what i said and felt like i was minimizing alcoholism. as someone that has had family members on both sides have addiction issues with alcohol (along with other things), i'm not one to be blase about alcoholism. this is also not me shrugging off the real issue that stas and kat could have addiction problems.

however…. we don't know them. we only see what they post. and it's not impossible that they make it seem like they're drinking a lot when in actuality they might only be having one or two drinks. does that make what they're doing any better? no. i'm not making that argument. what i'm trying to say is that we shouldn't jump to conclusions when we don't know the full story. plus, you can't diagnosis someone via a couple stories and snapchat or two. that's just reality.

does that mean that them joking about being alcoholics is cool? no it's not. it's really dumb at the very least, and extremely dark at the most. my hope and my personal belief is that they are just partying a bunch and made some tasteless jokes. i remember when i was in college, basically the same age (if not younger) as them, and ppl around me would joke about being alcoholics. i didn't find it funny, but they did. and i'm gonna assume that it's the same thing with them. that it's not them casually telling their fanbase that they have addictions issues, but more "omg isn't it so funny how we drink every night when we party??"

i don't think this behavior is great, especially since a lot of snc's younger fans have drifted into being these two girls' fans. it's not cute to aspire to be drunkards in your early 20s. you wanna go out and have your fun, so be it. but be realistic about what your limit is. also, you don't have to hit your limit every night. you don't have to drink every night either.

but again, as i stated before, i don't think they actually have addiction issues. if they did, that's for them and ppl close to them who know them to discuss and figure out. not for us to speculate over a couple stories and snapchats. i don't pay attention to them enough to really know one way or the other, but regardless i think it's best to not assume something's wrong. if it is really that much of an issue to anyone reading this, maybe reach out to them somehow and tell them you're concerned. or if it's too triggering, which is totally understandable, just block them and move on.

Networking is literally part of presence growth. You're taught how to network if you go into any form of business; be it as the CEO of a company or as the marketing assistant. Networking is literally how you grow your presence even if its just your random Twitter account.

You're networking when you like posts. When you reblog or leave a comment. You're networking when you follow people. Every single social media platform is designed to increase your ability to network and your presence. Their algorithms are literally coded for it.

It just seems weird to me that you're both judging and shaming people for doing what the site literally intends for them to do. Tumblr is a social platform.

i'm in no way against people using this website to grow, so if my post came across that way, my apologies. im also not shaming nor am i judging people for wanting to grow either. just about everyone wants validation for their work, me included. i totally get that.

what i was referring to when i said "networking" was not using tumblr as it's intended, it was referring using people. there's a super clear difference between people who are using the website wanting to grow and make friends and people who go out of their way to speak to me while simultaneously... let's say... sending me hate. the issue is not "wanting or not wanting to grow", it's the lack of genuineness I've experienced in a lot of conversations because of it.

i don't think i'm wrong to say i don't want someone to pretend to be my friend because they think they can get something from me. i'm, personally, not here for that. it doesn't feel good to know that someone has approached you, is talking to you, and agrees with you simply because they want to use you for followers. i really think anyone would agree. it becomes exhausting.

tumblr is a really unique social media platform in the sense that we don't have influencers or really even celebrities who actively use the platform. it's a website designed entirely for artists and creators to get their work out there. so you're right, there is nothing wrong with wanting to grow. there is nothing wrong with networking in the traditional sense to get your work further out there. that's what liking and reblogging is for. shit, there's not even anything wrong with building a community expressly for that purpose (a lot networks and discord servers are for that express purpose! and it's great!).

what's wrong, i think, is using other people based on your personal view of them as a stepping stone without any regard for who they really are. there is absolutely something odd about approaching someone under the guise of being friends while actively using them for growth or to get something out of them.

there's nothing wrong with networking or meeting new people to grow your circle or your reach. we do it all the time when we join a new fandom, unconsciously or not! it becomes wrong when you cross a line into pretending to create a friendship that is founded on something other than friendship itself. it becomes a problem when people become transactional about interactions. it's exhausting and, honestly, makes my blog feel like less of a safe space.

that's my personal opinion on it. i was in no way shaming people for wanting to grow.

Tbh i hate how a part of harry's own fandom ended up making a joke of his "brand" by painting him as this fierce activist who ended toxic masculinity and misogyny etc. when most of the things which they use to describe him as such are just his personal achievements. In these years, he has become so much more comfortable with who he is and isn't hesitant about exploring his identity, and that's all about it. Yes, he definitely has a huge influence even outside of the fanbase and I'm sure he has helped and inspired a lot of ppl unknowingly but he's definitely not singlehandedly "destroying gender roles". A lot of his fans putting his androgynous fashion interests onto some high pedestal and making the general public not take him seriously actually devalues his personal struggles and also undermines so many other marginalised ppl/celebrities who have done much more contribution to change.

Exactly like so much of the criticisms and mocking harry get subjected to whenever he does/says something which involves expressing his identity and beliefs stems from the fact that a huge chunk of his fans act like everything harry styles does is meant to be some political statement and hype up even the simplest things he does in order to "win" their stupid stan wars by trying to make their fave look some hyper woke activist king and then people who arent his fans call them out on praising him for doing the bare minimum when harry most likely wasnt doing/saying those things as a political statement at all.

Of course harry isnt completely ignorant and does care about many political and social issues but when his fans make stupid twitter threads like "Harry styles is a feminist icon" and "Thread of harry being supportive of women's rights" and then put bare minimum shit like harry wearing a shirt saying "women are smarter" or anecdotes about harry asking women for consent before touching their faces as "proofs" they are practically setting him up to be dragged. Same with all those threads and tweets calling him "king of saying fuck you to toxic masculinity" where all he is doing is wearing skirts or dresses or makeup. These people just end up either diluting the meaning of those words or make harry look like a joke.

I dont get why his fans cant just stick to praising him for coming to terms with his identity after years of struggling with it and overcoming his fear of being mocked/ridiculed by public for expressing himself by freely wearing and doing whatever he wants even on big platforms which is still a huge thing for him to achieve . Idk why all of his actions and decisions have to be scrutinized to make them look like some political statement when they could focus on things he actually did and said as political statements.

Like one of the main reasons im not as involved in the fandom as i was used to is bc its so exhausting to see half the fans acting like harry is a woke queer feminist activist for doing x or y thing while the other half rants about how harry doing those x or y things are actually problematic or not big enough for him to be praised about em when all harry wanted to do was express himself and not make a statement about it

- i was at this dystopian mad max fury road quarry looking place where everything was so muddy and they held all these people to work on the mines or something and it was really scary cause periodically I think at the end of the shift you had to bring everything all the clay minerals you collected and also fruit or any other food or gift you could to the boss but they like left you to your own devices there meaning it was survival of the fittest if you weren't smartest or fastest or if you were too kind you would end up with nothing... they had some celebrities there .. loona was there some pokemon were there i think some r&b singer from the early 2000s but idr who some ppl I went to school with it was kind of like a super strict boarding magical school and people were sent there as some sort of vague punishment I guess we were all excommunicated from the rest of society for some vague reasons... and this one influencer girl who was super rich got there and was like idc im going to post about all of this and she got up on some sort of indoor balcony that was close to the ceiling and got on the mic and started yelling and and the secretary was introducing her was like we advise people not to scream and then the amplifiers on the ceiling like exploded on her and she fell from the balcony hit her head and was acting like all traumatized bc of that and then they found out who the girl who told her all the gossip and took her away.. but anyways back to the end of shift offerings it was like my first one and i didn't get anything and was super nervous bc i was watching the ceremony and even people with decent gift were being humiliated and the loona members were reassuring me a little bit ;_; but when it got to my turn i was judged as a legendary Pokemon (that doesn't exist it was a sun/cog pokemon) so i was sent to another room because legendary pokemon were met with wayyy lower standards and I was let go just fine but i ended up finding a way out of there somehow and i was at this dark street where all the concerned relatives and friends of the people inside were waiting for them.. oh there was this whole thing about the people inside telling us that we could live at any time but if we did we would become forgotten/forsaken from everyone else's memory.. which made everyone really scary but that's when I found out that was a lie because everyone was there waiting for them and from a distance we could see this one trans woman (she looked like stasha sanchez telling them that she used to be inside as well and that they should fight to free their loved ones and i think that made them start a rebellion then idk what happened but they started transforming into monsters and zombies but they were just wearing Halloween costumes! But they really became inhuman undead monsters and wanted to kill people even their loved ones that they helped escape it was either kill or be killed so we had to kill them and everything went back to normal it was like the evil tyrannical academy never existed

Hello from your fantasy friend! How are you doing?

I like to write about a lot of things, but one of the main themes that comes up really often in my writing is friendship and found family (I think loving that trope so much is part of what draws me to kpop, there are so many kpop groups where the members treat each other like family). I have kind of a mix of original fiction and fanfic - I prefer to write AUs when I do fanfic though because I like to do worldbuilding and come up with backstory and stuff 😁

Kpop does seem to have an extra element of "connection" to the artist, I've definitely noticed that - it's similar to boy bands like One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer or even the Beatles, though I think with the influence of the internet, the amount that it's possible for groups to interact with fans has increased a lot (being able to open up a VLive and chat and have people around the world able to tune in is wild, if you think about it) and I guess entertainment companies realize that you get a lot more money if fans are emotionally invested on levels besides just the music. It does seem like kpop artists do a lot more extra stuff (variety shows, etc)... I feel like there are probably more factors that I don't know about but I'd be interested to learn more!

Ah yeah I feel you on the awkwardness thing 😂 for me I think I would most like to hang out with Youngbin, Zuho, and Taeyang (I would love to hang out with any of the members honestly but I think those are my top 3)

For favorite friendships/pairs... I think I still need to learn more about them before I can say anything definitive, but some of the moments I've seen with Inseong & Dawon and Chani & Youngbin have been really great so I'm gonna go with those! And I think it would be really cool to have a track with Rowoon, Taeyang, Jaeyoon, and Zuho - their voices are all so cool and I'd love to hear more of them! Dawon and Taeyang together would also be awesome ☺️

when i think about it i suppose it could also apply to other celebrities as well, what with gossip columns and tabloids and stuff like that. they are celebrities bc people are interested in them and inevitably some are interested in them more personally as well. and yeah i think the internet definitely plays a big part in all of it. now you have access to your faves with just the click of a button and you get updates from them just as easily as it is to chat with your friends it's cool but also you can see how people take it for granted and start feeling entitled to getting frequent updates and interactions with their faves. (not that im totally innocent, if dawon doesn't post for a week i lose my mind skgsksh)

i think another thing that influences it is that there is always new stuff going on so in order to make sure fans don't drift or get caught up in other things, they have to make sure there's a connection that keeps them loyal (and also why they have to put out so much content constantly.)

companies are all about money so im not surprised they've capitalized off the connections people make. I definitely feel like it's more evident in kpop (but again I've only really only stanned kpop so maybe it's evident other places as well) like the whole creating a fandom name and celebrating days together and whatnot,, there's probably more but im kinda just rambling at this point so i will stop there 😂

is there anything specifically you'd want to do with them? i really want to go out to eat with them 😂😂

Talking if’s and but’s is fun for speculation’s sake but take whatever im about to say with a few grains of salt because these are just farfetched hypothesis. also sorry this came out super long, im very verbose when it comes to shinsha

I’ve touched on the subject of Shinsha going to the moon with Phos a few times (like here), but I think its important to determine when, exactly, Shinsha would come with Phos.

Are we speaking of a completely different timeline, one where Phos asked Shinsha to become their partner since the very beginning? If that’s the case, I cant really see Phos becoming interested in finding the truth about Sensei or the lunarians and the two would keep on being good friends until one of them was abducted or someone else decided to embark on a journey to unveil the truth.

Are we speaking of a timeline where Shinsha accepts to go to the moon in chapter 52? That’s a tricky one because Cinnabar had pretty strong reasons to refuse to go. Maybe im just very paranoid about characterization, even if this is not fanfic, but it would be very out of character of them to come with Phos and put aside their pride for the umpteenth time, after Phos used them and brushed them off over and over during the years.

I think that the reason why people say that if Cinnabar went with Phos this whole disaster (the rift btw moon and earth gems, the night raid and Phos becoming a war criminal) wouldn’t have happened is because Cinnabar has always been good at channeling Phos’ chaos. 

What Cinnabar brought to Phos’ personality was direction, caution and insight. It is not by chance that, the second Phos could no longer rely on Shinsha for counsel, things rapidly escalated toward madness.

The last of Phos and Cinnabar’s conversations happens in chapter 61, way too late to mend things: Phos should have talked with cinnabar sooner, but under Lapis’ influence and crescent grief they were growing colder and more impatient and they never understood Cinnabar enough to know that Shinsha was truly interested in helping them. Phos hurt Cinnabar for the last time in chapter 52, proving Cinnabar once more that they were not the right person to help Cinnabar and that Shinsha’s trust had been misplaced. Their last conversation, in chapter 61, can be nothing else than a disaster.

I’ve written a whole meta on how Shinsha was about to shake Phos’ outstretched hand. If Phos didn’t take back their offer, Shinsha would have come with them to the moon. 

To mend things and have Shinsha come with Phos, then, we’d have to change an important line of dialogue like the one where phos takes back their offer (“can we go together?… or so I’d like to say”) and/or when phos pretends not to hear shinsha when cinnabar asks them to please not go. 

we gotta make it so that either shinsha swallows their pride and explains things to phos, or phos doesnt pretend they didnt hear them.

Now, I’ll give myself and other Shinsha stans out there a moment to contemplate the fact that we were robbed of Shinsha in lunarian clothes, as well as the fact that we were robbed of the amazing and heartfelt dialogue that would have followed phos hearing cinnabar’s plea and listening to them. This manga is so cruel, truly. 

With Shinsha on Phos’ side, im gonna explore two possible scenarios among dozens that might have happened:

Canon divergence 1:

Shinsha and Phos go to the moon alone following that alternative dialogue in chapter 52. This means that the first time phos goes to the moon, cinnabar is with them.

for this plan to work, phos probably doesnt need cairn’s complicity. i imagined cinnabar and phos could be abducted in a scene reminiscing of chapter 2, when they first meet and cinnabar saves phos.  

on the moon, phos is not alone to face the truth of the dusted gems, they’re not alone to listen to aechmea’s explanations and lies and they’re not alone bargaining with aechmea. cinnabar is shrewd and attentive, patient, smart, and they always advised phos well. add to this the fact that, since they agreed on coming to the moon together, these two dumbasses finally made a few steps toward proper communication.

as the power team ive always known they can be, shinsha and phos balance each other pretty well. i can see shinsha convincing phos to stay on the moon longer to learn more about the truth (phos only stayed 2 months the first time). Assuming that Shinsha doesn’t accept (pls don’t accept) to have someone suppress their poison (assuming its something the lunarians can do), their mercury is a pretty strong weapon and it could give them some bargaining power over the moon people. 

also im not sure how the pearl eye thing would work: to control them effectively, aechmea would need to implant a spy on both shinsha and phos, but would he be afraid of their mercury? after all it’s something even lunarians have “a hard time” healing padpa from after the night raid. so let’s give divergence!Shinsha self-confidence points for finding out their mercury is cool and good.   

now things start to become really different from canon. shinsha is considered reliable by the earth gems, so with two gems rather than only phos to advocate for the moon people’s cause, the earth gems might be more prone to believe them and phos might not need to pull off their rebellion thing.

which means no rift between moon and earth gems, which means no cairnmea arc, no night raid, no nearly-dead padpa and no to at least a dozen new emotional traumas for our phos.

i wish i could be more precise than this, but at this point the story could develop in so many directions that i’d leave it to your own imagination. my biggest point of concern is phos becoming human. if they dont acquire the pearl eye they wont be human enough to activate sensei and that would be a huge problem.

Canon divergence 2:

Shinsha follows Phos to the moon the second time Phos goes(chapter 62). this makes less sense character-wise, but I’m gonna explore this option anyway because it allows me to include other gems as well.

Cinnabar’s judgment is trusted, they’re smart. If Shinsha decided to come, other gems might follow their example, like Rutile. Rutile wanted to go and they’re friends with Cinnabar. They might gloss over their attempt to ask for Sensei’s permission if Shinsha guarantees for Phos’ plan. However, if Rutile comes, Padparadscha will stay on earth (as Rutile says in chapter 62). Even if Padpa came to the moon, they would be under Rutile’s influence and/or they’d have to take Rutile’s feelings into account. It’s possible that they would have less room to operate freely.

If Padpa and Rutile come, a lot of other gems could follow. To the point it would be hard to keep the escape a secret. The rift between moon and earth gems could run deeper than in Canon: worst case scenario there could be a fight between the two groups, best case scenario the two groups talk it out and some gems decide to trust Phos while others stay on earth. Cairn is a wild card whose behavior im not entirely sure about. Its possible that they would simply not follow Phos if Phos already had a partner with them (Shinsha) and we’d be spared the whole cairnmea arc and if that’s not something worth celebrating I don’t know what is.

Once again, if Shinsha is with Phos, they’ll push Phos to think before they act. They could help Phos strengthen their position as leader and use their mercury to give the gems some bargaining power over the moon people. I can see Shinsha acting a little like Amethyst 84: interested in the moon, maybe more wary, cold, objective…

The night raid would not necessarily be the failure it was. Shinsha would be on Phos’ side and spare Phos the emotional trauma they woke up to in chapter 72, when they realized that Cinnabar, the one person they thought a friend, attacked them. With Phos and Padpa’s strength, numbers and Shinsha’s mercury on their side, the moon gems would win. Earth and moon gems could finally talk and solve the problem.

The question is whether Phos was human enough during the night raid. If they asked Sensei to pray, would he activate already? Otherwise, everyone’s efforts would be in vain and the earth gems could assume the others lied or maybe aechmea could decide to turn everyone to dust and implement yet another plan.

soooo to sum this up: yeah, i do think that if cinnabar came with phos a lot of drama could have been avoided. maybe not all of it, maybe new drama would have ensued, but that’s life. still, it would have been very out of character both for phos and for cinnabar to go together to the moon. and ichikawa would never give up the cairnmea arc.

You know, I'm honestly curious about one thing, people in the bnha tend to dislike Endeavor (including me) but seem to like villainous characters like the members of the lov, who aren't good people themselves, what do you think makes a character likable or not?

yeah definitely !!

from the beginning, you’ve never been able to align yourself with endeavors goals or ideologies. at the most basic level, he derives a person’s worth based on the power of their quirk; aka people who have issues with their quirks (or even low profile powers) are inherently seen as “failures”(similar to what geten talked about during the mla battle). he’s abusive and selfish. his sole purpose for having children was so they could replace him in the battle to defeat all might and take the #1 hero position in his name for his honor. he beat his wife and kids. he emotionally manipulated them for years and didn’t give a damn about it. his very character goes against what it means to be a hero, yet here he is at the top. 

then, endeavor (rather, horikoshi) tries to kickstart a redemption arc despite not deserving it. the only catalyst that motivated his “desire” to change was the fact that he jumped into the number 1 position against his own terms, not because he realized he was a shit human being (although that train of thought does develop afterwards). he still hasn’t made any actual, concrete efforts to “atone” for his actions (as he puts it). all he’s done thus far is provide a vague apology because he’s upset that his family is at a point where they can personally confront him and call him out on his bullshit. even then, fuyumi is still holding the family together in his presence. he hasnt seriously tried to understand natuso’s emotions or viewpoint and he has yet to actually apologize to shoto about his behavior (not that it’ll change much). if you think about it, not a lot of time has passed between him telling shoto “this is why i created you” vs “my family hates me and is so much happier when im not around :’(” (maybe a few months in canon?). either way, it doesnt feel genuine and it doesnt replace the fact that he intentionally terrorized his family for personal gain. i think his character is so purposely flawed that we’re not supposed to like him (thus allowing us to sympathize with shoto, especially during the sports festival)

the league, however, have turned to villainy because of external factors. shigaraki, as we’ve come to find out, aspired to become a hero, for it was his desire to reach out and save people like nana did. but he was an unfortunate victim of circumstance, and he lost his entire family when he was just a child due to a spontaneous quirk mutation. worse yet, no one was there to save him. all for one, to shigaraki, resembles a hero in the sense that he was the only person to to help him out. it’s obvious that afo and ujiko groomed him into villainy by encouraging the development of maladaptive behaviors and unhealthy coping mechanisms. we can sympathize with him, mourn for him, and celebrate his achievements when he gets closer to acting on his own volition. dabi is also another good example, for he’s the result of all that is wrong with hero society. he was pushed to the brink of death by the hand of his own father and was continuously told he was too weak, that he “failed” in his “purpose”, etc. and that he has no worth in a society that only values strong and powerful quirks. obviously, the league isnt going to be perfect and you’re not always going to be able to agree with certain actions, but i think that’s sorta the point.

so the difference is definitely in ideology and circumstance imo. endeavor, a 46 year old man, consciously made the decision to harm his entire family for YEARS on end whereas characters in the league like shigaraki and dabi are the result of environmental and external influence (endeavors and afo’s abuse, spontaneous quirk manifestation, quirk disability, etc). 

i think what makes a character likable is either your ability to relate to them or their capacity to demonstrate change, neither of which endvr possesses

I think you forget that she is human, and there are plenty of "stars" or "celebrities" that have called out people for attacking them. I understand that the user was 13 but how was Bex to know that before calling them out? Like she has time to investigate every person who sends her bullshit. Also, I would imagine she was hurt and angry, and people do things they might regret when they're angry. Bex is young and, as you said, not a HUGE star. She probably isn't used to receiving hate mail as often as people like Tom Hiddleston or Zendaya. Yes, she shouldn't have engaged. She SHOULD ignore users like the 13 year old and users like you. But she probably got so much hate for a reason so mind-numbingly STUPID that she snapped. You've elevated her to this petistal by atttacking her for this.

Say it was a shit apology all you want, but at least she did something. She could have continued to ignore the 13 year old or continied to bash them. Once she found out they were 13, she backed off and apologized and attempted to get the harassers to stop. What did you expect her to do?? Find the harassers personally?? Stage an investigation? Okay, yeaaaahhhhhhhhh, then y'all attack Bex for answering. Saying SHE attacked the 14 year old?? Y'all are killing me, really, do you even read what you write before you post? She, who only sees usernames and little icons, in no way can know the user is 14, who was THREATENED, and you don't expect her to respond....? You and everyone else who thinks this is evidence is bonefide stupid.

Please, do not bring her sexuality into this. Yes, she is a lesbian and a very proud one at that. Her liking a JOKE doesn't suddenly make her have a fetish for m|m porn. As she said, it was a joke between coworkers. You took something stupid and twisted it to fit the same old image people like you want to thrust upon EVERYONE who doesn't think, act, or breathe the same way as you.

As for Sheith in general....listen, I get you don't want pedophilic relationships in a kid's show. I don't either!! That would be awful and a horrid example, and if that were happening in VLD, I would be right there with you. But seriously. The Sheith ship (sorry shippers) is a fantasy. There wasn't ever and won't ever be any canon moments between Keith and Shiro. They are very much brotherly, I agree with you on this. But it isn't a crime, nor does it make you an awful person, to joke about it or ship it. At the end of the day, it's a TV show. You don't want your kid to see approved pedophilia in media? Don't let your kid on Tumblr, where you can't ever control what people like or make or reblog.

Let's take a look at the last thing you said. Let's end all ships because VLD is a kid's show and shouldn't be sexualized. Okay, cool, I get that, I won't at you for that....except that I went ahead and took a look at your blog and within a minute I find you reblogging a klance fic. I know how you'll react to this, "klance isnt underaged! Sheith and shaladin is!" That's chill. I ship klance, myself. But you said end all ships and then obviously support klance? Oh, and look, more klance fanart where they are OBVIOUSLY romantic with each other.

You also reblogged a fanart from x-unky-x, who is known for making R18 Klance doujinshis. Since you stretched to attacked and belittle Bex, I stretch that a little to say "well they must just love those R18 mags!! Of Voltron characters!! The kids show!!"

While I do agree that Bex shouldn't answer just the super aggressive mail (I would love to see her answer some of mine, I have a lot of constructive questions about Pidge and the show and I just LOVE Bex), she probably considered the hate mail funny. I would in her shoes. And you say polite people send her aks and I believe you! I am sure they were super polite (not sarcasm, I actually believe you). But if they were about Sheith, then I can tell you why she didn't answer them. BECAUSE SHEITH IS A J O K E. I would get tired of hearing the same old "uhmmmm sheith is problematic" speech too if all I did was like a single picture.

She obviously doesn't condone pedophilia, no one working on VLD does. Her making that post calling shaladin predatory was probably her attempt at placating crazies like you that have nothing better to do than attack VAs over stupid shit like a SINGLE liked post.

What do you have against Bex? (Can u also provide evidence thanks 💜)

When I first got this ask, I was tempted to play it off as a joke and say “the fact she exists,” and leave it at that. But I feel like it’s important to stay informed. And if you genuinely don’t know, I’ll give you the complete rundown. It’s long, it’s messy, and it’s nasty, so bear with me.

First, and introduction. When I talk about Bex, I’m referring to the actress Bex Taylor-Klaus, who is the voice actor (or VA) of the character Pidge in the show Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix.

It all began a while ago when Bex liked a comment of a picture. The picture involved a ship called Shei//th. I censored the name so it doesn’t show up in the tags of that on tumblr. But essentially it’s a ship between two characters, Takashi Shirogane, a 25 year old pilot who is the leader of the team, and Keith Kogane, one of the other “paladins” or fighters on the team. People like me find this ship to be distasteful, since Shiro is an adult, and the others are teens (it’s actually a bit messier than that, since an official Voltron source listed Keith as 18, but the producers of the show, Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos, said they were not consulted on the book so there’s some question as to whether it’s canon or not). Either way, the consensus by most reasonable people is that it’s probably not a healthy thing to depict in children’s media, when you consider the considerable age difference, the power imbalance (leader, senior officer with someone they are in charge of), and finally, the iconic line by the character of Keith himself when he defines their relationship as a familial one.

Nonetheless, the ship persists, as nasty things on tumblr are wont to do. There’s a lot of shipping discourse on tumblr between two distinct groups which can be labelled as “antis”–people who are not in favor of any Shiro/paladin ships, or what has become to be known as “shaladins”–people who ship any variation of Shiro with the paladins.

Here is where Bex got involved. On Instagram there was a picture of a black shoe and a red shoe together and the joke was about the shoes being a prophecy that Shei//th would be canon. A joke, mostly, considering all the evidence above. But here’s where Bex got herself in trouble. She liked a comment on the picture where someone said “Keith is a power bottom confirmed.”

Obviously, this caused a bit of an uproar within the fanbase, especially between the discourse between antis and shaladins. Shaladins were celebrating that an Official Voltron Source liked their ship, and antis were angry about that acknowledgement of the ship at all by official sources, and the sexualization of a kid’s show (more on this later.)

So of course this sparked the discourse on tumblr. One user, @lancehunks, who was receiving asks about Bex, tagged her in the replies.They were definitely unfavorable.

Bex, being the big strong, adult, woman she is, decided that she could not take this obviously grievous insult to her name [sarcasm], and decided to reblog them all and respond to them. Keep in mind, that @lancehunks was just 13 years old. And Bex (22) decided that these were appropriate responses:

Yep, you read that right. Not only an adult but employed on a kid’s show! To a 13 year old! The target audience of the very show she’s a part of! (Oh, the hypocrisy). But wait, there’s more:

Just in case you’re confused, let me tell you the many, many reasons why this is unacceptable. 

 Bex is an adult. You’d think she’d be a little more mature by now just in general. It’s the internet and there are trolls.

The person she was addressing was 13!!!! Do I think it was mature to tag Bex in all those posts? No. But it’s… behavior that you can expect from 13 year old’s on the internet. If we swore at and tore down every single one of them every time they did something dumb, we would need a lot more therapists for teens in the world. Plus it’s really disingenuous to pretend that we wouldn’t have done something similar when we were younger if we were in that position.

Bex is famous. While she’s certainly not on the caliber of massive A-List stars like Tom Holland or Zendaya, she has a fanbase that exceeds the normal person’s friend group. Just because she’s been on TV before, she has groupies that will support her no matter what, who will troll for her, who uncritically and unconditionally worship her. I’m not a Bex fan, nor do I really care to know her well enough to know just exactly how many fans she has, to be certain she does have them. When she publicly reblogged those words, that “motherfucker,” those fighting words, she weaponized her fanbase. What I mean when I say that is her behavior gave her groupies permission to behave the same way. By targeting someone who didn’t like her (a thirteen year old!!!!!), she opened the gates to her fans and groupies doing the same thing, to a kid.

This lead to some terrible things happening. The 13 year old was getting death threats, sexual violence threats, and nsfw content, all because Bex just couldn’t let it go. 

What does this mean? Finish it? Finish the kid? If you’re so sick of the fighting, then why did you even respond in the first place? Bex is the one who escalated the situation. Bex is the one who caused the fighting in the first place (by that I mean the fighting between the two that night, the fighting between antis and shaladins has been going on for as long as the show).

There we go. Now he have something resembling dignity. But unfortunately the damage was done, and user @lancehunks deleted their blog. As a direct response to Bex’s actions. Bex caused a 13 year old to leave tumblr. 

When hearing this news, Bex offered a half-assed apology:

This is the most insincere apology I have ever seen. “The internet has Bad things on it and it’s YOUR fault for seeing them” is not an apology. The best part is that she’s a big fat hypocrite. “Sometimes, when it’s harmless, the best thing I can do is shake my head and keep scrolling.” So why didn’t you Bex? Why didn’t you keep scrolling instead of targeting a 13 year old?

In light of recent political events, though there’s one thing that stands out to me: 

Sound like anybody you know? The esteemed President, perhaps?

*disclaimer* I am in no way claiming that Bex is a Trump supporter. I don’t know enough about her–and I don’t want to know enough about her–to know where she leans politically. I’m just drawing the attention to the similarities in moral equivalency going on, here.*

Sure you targeted a 13 year old and weaponized your fanbase, but someone tagging you in a snarky post is just as bad, right? (Wrong.)

You’d think that would be the end. You’d think that Bex would be capable of living and learning, or maybe even just taking her own advice, and keep scrolling. But here we go again.

The next bit of drama started when the possibly canon guide book was released, stating Keith’s age as 18. There was a big celebration on the shaladin side because technically, that would make it “legal” for Keith and Shiro to have sex. Besides the fact that legal ≠ moral, again, Voltron is a kid’s show. But on tumblr this time, Bex posted this.

This time, the discourse surrounding Bex was a little different., This time, the discourse mostly focused on the fact that even if Shiro and Keith disregarded canon and morals and the fact that it’s a kid’s show ever did get in a relationship, the only thing that matters is how they like to have sex.

This is a problem for a lot of reasons. There’s a culture, pretty prominent on tumblr of women, mostly white, who are obsessed with gay sex. They write fanfiction and p*rn solely for their own personal gratification. This, of course, is a gross misinterpretation to wanting LGBT+ representation. If you aren’t a mlm (an acronym for men-loving-man, that includes many sexualities) then writing p*rn about is sexualizing them, using them as a tool to get yourself off, and not like complex human people. Mlm are more than how they like to have sex. In fact, that shouldn’t be a part of a discussion for anybody except between willing partners. This also feeds into the popular and damaging stereotype that gay men are predatory by nature.

So, as a whole, not good. 

And again, we have a whole situation escalated by Bex. The worst part is, to people who tried to explain this to her, the only response they were given was a gif:

So once again, a minor dared to express their distaste for Bex on tumblr. But this time, they didn’t tag her. This time, they censored her name. But Bex found it anyway. And she decided to do the exact same thing that led to a minor leaving the website, and to stop watching the show. 

Have no fear, this time though. This time, Bex is going after a 14 year old, at least she’s not going after kids anymore, right? [sarcasm]

Some final notes. 

Bex claims to be an LGBT+ rights activist. I’m also pretty sure she’s a lesbian herself (again, I already know too much about her, I’m not looking to get to know her better.) So, you’d think, as someone who wants equality for LGBT+ people and communities, she’d have the wherewithal to listen to specific subsets of that group when they say something about themselves, like, for example, young mlm who don’t appreciate being sexualized by a white woman. So I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when I saw this on her blog:

Now, I happen to agree with the above statement, but it’s so ironic, so hypocritical that Bex is talking about the sexualization of anything. Because kid’s shows aren’t safe from her sexualization and mlm certainly aren’t. How can one person be so incredibly oblivious? A mystery that I don’t have any interest in solving. 

I also want to address something a little more devious and a little more dark. I personally know of at least 12 different people who sent Bex asks, politely explaining some of the things I’ve talked about here, or relaying how her words hurt them personally. Bex never answered any of them. But she did answer this:

Just to be perfectly clear, I do not condone or encourage hatemail. Do not send people anything wishing them death or harm in any way. I have never sent nor do plan on sending hatemail, and you should be ashamed of yourself if you do.

However, this is incredibly nefarious. Bex doesn’t answer any of the many asks she got that were polite, but proved her wrong. She didn’t answer any of the young mlm who gave her their personal stories and who weren’t anonymous. Instead, she publishes this. And she did this on purpose, to make her look innocent, to make her look like she’s the one being attacked. I get hatemail every single day too. Things along similar lines to this. I block the user. Delete them, One, because I don’t want to expose my followers to that kind of negativity on a daily basis, two, a mature person knows that deleting them is the best kind of revenge because the user will be constantly looking for a response and they will know they had no effect on me and three, because if you do that, eventually they stop. This is intentional on Bex’s part to make the people who don’t like her look bad. I don’t like Bex at all, and I certainly do not support that message. Any reasonable person wouldn’t. Also the fact that it’s an anonymous message adds a certain air of doubt as to who sent it. 

The point is, Bex is purposely ignoring polite and well-meaning people and posted this to “prove” she’s the one on the “good” side because no good person would send that message.

This is also worth noting: 

This was posted after the lancehunks debate but before the power bottom comment she made. In this post, Bex admits that a relationship between Shiro and any of the paladins is predatory in nature. She said that. Her words. And then after that she said that Keith was a power bottom. 

The last thing I want to say, is that Voltron is a kid’s show. It’s rated US-TV-Y7. Which means for years 7 and older. Regardless of the ship, there should be no sexual content, be it fanart, of fanfiction of Voltron characters at all. We are all collectively responsible for keeping content age-appropriate for the target audience. So, stop it. All and any ships. 

For minors, this is my advice to you:Bex is a predator, a hypocrite, and a liar. Do not engage with her. Block her. Do not tag her in any of your posts. She has a history of targeting minors. Protect yourself. Do not engage.
