when you hang out with their best friend/teammate without them | 2
characters: suna, akaashi, tsukishima
request: can we get the when you hang out with their best friend/teammate without them for suna akaashi and tsuki?
warnings: nothing, just some kissing and a few possessive boys
notes: ahh my first request!! i’m happy that i wrote something that someone wanted more of haha <3
part one | part two
akaashi:
akaashi likes to have his shit together and he often overthinks things
which is why after concluding that if he finished all his work in one go he’d have more time to hangout with you, he decided to do exactly that
you offered to stay with him while he worked but he knew that you’d end up distracting him (not in a bad way or anything) and that he most likely wouldn’t finish his work on time
so you were temporarily banned from his place until he was done
but you were bored and pouty so you complained to bokuto, knowing he would understand your over-exaggerated reaction
he texted you immediately ‘whaaattt ?? i’m coming over right now!!!’
he showed up ten minutes later to your house, snacks in hand, ready to keep you company and playfully complain about your boyfriend and his best friend
he insisted on sending him snaps of the two of you pouting at the camera, ‘how could you abandon this cute face, akaashi???’
his arm was wrapped around you and his face was smushed against yours but honestly he didn’t mean to make akaashi jealous, he was just being himself, completely playful and dramatic
akaashi wasn’t planning on opening the messages since bokuto was always spamming him but when he took a five minute break, he opened them just in case they were important today
when he saw his best friend practically cuddling you, his brows furrowed and a scowl made it’s way onto his face
since you and bokuto weren’t exactly expecting a response from akaashi, you went on to do other things, showing each other tik toks, and just chatting while you waited for him to finish up.
it was about ten minutes later that you both heard the doorbell ring. you and bokuto both turned to each other, confused.
“did you order food?” you asked.
“no, i was gonna ask if you did? cause i’m starving––”
“well then who’s that...” you muttered to yourself as you got up to answer the door, bokuto cowering behind you, mumbling about if it was a murderer, phone in hand, ready to call the cops. you can imagine your surprise when you opened the door to find your boyfriend standing there, a scary serious look on his face.
you blinked in shock, but before you could say anything, bokuto stepped in front of you. “hey hey hey! took you long enough buddy! i was keeping y/n company while you banned her from your house. how could you do that by the way––ow!”
your eyes widened as akaashi smacked bokuto’s head. “shut up bokuto. you can go now.”
bokuto pouted dramatically, “aw what?? we were about to order food,” he turned back to you. “right y/n?”
suddenly the boy was yanked back and out of the house, a yelp jumping from his throat abruptly and akaashi was standing next to you. “you have food at your own house, why don’t you go there.” he shut the door without another word and turned to face you, ignoring the whining on the other side of the door.
“what––what are you doing here?” you looked up at him, confused and slightly in awe as he placed his hands on your cheeks and tilted your head to look up at him, his thumbs rubbing your skin gently.
“wanted to be with you.” he gave you a small smile but you responded with an adorable confused pout.
“but what about your work––”
“i’ll just do it tomorrow, it is saturday after all.”
“hey when i said that you still insisted on working.” you pursed your lips and narrowed your eyes curiously. “was it because bokuto was here?”
he looked away, “i have no idea what you’re talking about.”
you laughed. “you know you’re a terrible liar when it comes to me.”
he slid his hands down to your arms and placed them around his neck before gripping your waist under your shirt. you gasped softly at the feeling of his fingertips against your skin and he smirked down at you. he leaned in until his lips were grazing yours. “again, i have no idea what you’re talking about.”
before you could even think of a response, his hands were pulling you flush against him and his lips were on yours, taking your breath away. you moaned into the kiss and he groaned, his fingertips digging into your skin as he slid his tongue into your mouth expertly.
just as you got lost in his touch, you heard a small voice from outside. “so are you guys gonna let me back in?”
suna:
so suna is a lazy boy, we know that
and he likes to nap a lot
sometimes he’s just so tired that he forgets to text you before he naps
and today you’re supposed to hang out with him but around 3pm he stopped answering, so you knew he was taking his usual afternoon nap and if you went by his place, he wouldn’t be able to answer the door
so you decided to go out and get some snacks on the way to his house, planning to take your sweet time and let your boy rest
by coincidence, you ran into atsumu at the shop and he insisted on staying with you... and eating some of suna’s snacks
it’s about a little while later that you make your way over to suna’s place, texting him to make sure he’s awake
when suna opened his door, the subtle smile dropped from his face when he realized you’re not alone. he raised a brow and looked over to his friend, “i don’t remember inviting you.”
you pursed your lips, scolding your boyfriend’s bluntness. “suna–”
atsumu shrugged, a grin on his face. “i was keeping your girl company and thought i’d be a gentleman and walk her over here.”
suna raked his eyes over atsumu lazily, clearly unamused. “yeah thanks. you can go now.”
the blonde pouted dramatically. “oh what? come on, you’re not gonna invite me in?” he put his arm around you and gave you puppy dog eyes. “come on y/n, convince him for me?”
you managed to turn for a split second to realize how close he had gotten to you before you were pulled out of his arms and into the warmth of the house. you blinked and suddenly you were under suna’s arm, facing a wide-eyed atsumu.
next thing you know, the door was shutting in his face. you turned to suna and he simply shrugged and took the bag from your hands. “you brought snacks,” he smirked. “you’re the best.” he put it down on the table and tilted his head as he looked down at you curiously, trying to seem nonchalant, but his narrowed eyes gave him away. “why were you with him?”
you tried to hide your smirk as you answered him. “went to get you some snacks while you were asleep and ran into him at the shop.”
his eyes reduced down to slits as he watched the playful look in your eyes. “why?” you smiled. “were you jealous?”
he walked over to you slowly and slid his hand up to your neck, gripping it softly but firmly as he tilted your head up towards him. he made a show of trailing his eyes down from yours to your lips and keeping them there, making your breath hitch in anticipation.
“less talking, more moaning.” he pressed his lips against yours possessively and had you melting and giving in immediately. whatever he wants, he gets. you knew that better than anyone.
tsukishima:
if you don’t believe that tsuki is a dry texter or that he would leave your ass on delivered for several days––i have some news for you
so let’s say it’s a saturday afternoon and while normally you hang out with tsuki basically every weekend, you also know that he was in a pissy mood earlier so you let him cool off
you text him after a little while, asking if you could come over in the middle of your usual tik tok spam and he opens the text, only to leave you on read (only seeing the tik toks, not the actual message)
you just brush it off, thinking he’s still in a mood and decide to find someone else to hangout with
that person just so happens to be tadashi
you two had gotten closer ever since you started dating tsuki so it wasn’t out of the ordinary for you to spend time together
it’s just that normally it would you, tadashi and tsuki
so you can imagine your boyfriend’s surprise when he opens snap to see you and his best friend smiling on your story
he frowns but tries not to let it get to him (spoiler, he fails)
when an hour has passed by and you still haven’t texted him or anything he gives in and messages you first, a blunt ‘when are you coming.’
you take that as a sign that he finally wants you to come over and since you and tadashi were ready to wrap things up, you make your way over to your boyfriend’s house
almost as soon as you knock on the door, it’s pulled open and you look up to see tsuki looking down at you, his brow raised. it’s silent for a few seconds and you tilt your head in confusion, why did he look annoyed?
before you could say anything he spoke up, “tadashi’s not with you anymore?”
you shook your head. “no––oh i’m sorry should i have invited him?”
he scoffed only confusing you further and without another word, he took your hand and pulled you into the house. still silent, he took your jacket for you and put your shoes away as well. you smiled up at him when he stood up straight and you could see the slight blush he was trying to hide.
he walked ahead to sit on his couch and you followed, choosing to sit with a little space between the two of you, since he hadn’t seemed to cool off completely yet and you knew how much he valued personal space. little did you know, you were only making things worse.
he stared at you, brows furrowed and you stared back, eyes curiously wide. “why are you all the way over there?”
you smiled and got up to sit in his lap, feeling satisfied as he opened his arms up for you to get settled. you kissed his cheek and looked at him. “i know i saw you yesterday, but i missed you today, you know?”
he rolled his eyes, “yeah sure.”
“don’t roll your eyes at me,” you laughed. “you’re the one who didn’t wanna hang out with me.”
he paused. “what are you talking about?”
“i asked you if i could come over and you left me on read.” you played with his hair mindlessly as you spoke. “but it’s okay, i know you get cranky sometimes.” you smiled fondly but he was serious as ever.
“i didn’t leave you on read?”
“yeah you did.” you tilted your head. “i thought you did it on purpose.” he frowned and you took your phone and scrolled through your conversation, before showing him the text you’d sent hours before. he read over the text and blinked a few times before looking away. he tightened his hold around you slightly.
“i’m sorry... i didn’t see.”
you put your hand on his cheek and made him look up at you. “aw baby is that why youve been so moody since i got here? you thought i didn’t wanna spend time with you?”
he swallowed as he looked into your eyes, the vulnerability he was trying to hide in his gaze telling you everything you needed to know. “tsuki, you know i always wanna be with you.” you smiled and pressed your lips against his for a gentle kiss which he clearly appreciated. his hand gripped your thigh firmly as his other arm pulled you closer to him to prolong the kiss.
when you pulled away, he looked up at you. “do you think...you could stay over tonight?”
he tried to keep a nonchalant and unbothered exterior but once you agreed and gave him that precious smile, he couldn’t stop the small smile that spread on his face, even if he tried.

more Vanessa headcanons
She requested to have pepper spray while working, just to make herself feel a little safer, and the company was like, “yeah sure, we just gotta use it on you first as a training thing” and she was like “chill”
It was not chill
She knew pepper spray hurt, but not that much
Her eyes swelled shut, her throat closed, and every inch of her face burned like Hell’s hottest fire. She had to prop herself up against some person’s car because she felt like she was going to die. The whole thing took place outside, but everyone inside could probably hear her shrieking bloody murder
She was too focused on the excruciating pain to really be embarrassed about how much she was slobbering and snotting all over herself
But she’s got pepper spray on her now, so that’s cool!
Can fall asleep to people playing with her hair
Gets nosebleeds when she’s stressed
Gets the hiccups when she’s flustered
Prone to migraines
Lets Chica braid her hair
Regularly talks about her period to anyone who will listen (usually the animatronics who are always like 👁👄👁)
Was once venting to Freddy about how she barely has friends anymore because of her schedule and he was like, “I’ll be your friend! 😊” and she started crying
A cat person
Is threatened by dogs
Thinks that this is the funniest video in the whole world
Once tried to work the day shift. For some reason panicked while talking to a customer because she isn’t used to a lot of interaction and did a British accent. Was too embarrassed to drop it so she was British for the rest of the day. Never worked the day shift again.
Absolutely loathes lavender-scented anything
Will hide her smile or laughter behind her hand. Or if she’s holding something, she’ll hide it behind that
Talks in her sleep. Usually says really concerning stuff
Sleeps with a baseball bat in her room
Has never lost a game of Jenga ever
Chews ice
Favorite color used to be purple. Not anymore
Favorite color is now yellow
Absolutely terrible at unlocking locks
Once cried at a stuffed cow because it was just too cute
This was the cow
Hugs her pillows when sleeping to try and replicate the feeling of someone else there with her
Will also heat up her blankets to mimic human warmth
She’s so fucking lonely okay 😭
Has a severe Resting Bitch Face, but her smile could light up a room
Didn’t tell anyone it was her birthday, but the animatronics found out because they know her records. They asked why she didn’t say anything and she shrugged and said it didn’t matter. They throw her a party. She has to leave to cry in the bathroom before she can engage in the festivities.
When someone does something nice for her, even if it’s a really small thing, she will never stop saying that they didn’t have to
Doesn’t drink water very often
Has kidney issues because of the above, specifically kidney stones (projection lol)
Went to work with kidney stones before. Spent most of her shift on the floor of the security office, in too much pain to move.
Names all of her stuffed animals
Her brain short circuits when she’s praised
Sleeps with a nightlight on always
Claustrophobic and afraid of the dark
So fucking touch-starved
Knows how to suture wounds
Her body is littered in scars from her voluntarily hurting herself in a desperate attempt to keep Glitchtrap out of her head. Whenever she fears he will try to mind control her, she hurts herself, thinking he will feel the same amount of pain as she does. She’s smashed her hand with a hammer, pulled out teeth, cut herself in numerous places, and more. It’s unhealthy, she knows, but she doesn’t want to be used as a puppet

Viktor Headcanons (Arcane)
(These are all pretty SFW! If there should be a part 2 or want other Arcane character Headcanons or want NSFW lmk!)
(It’s like 2am and I have work in the morning, so I’ve impulsively made a brainrot dump blog, enjoy~!)
Viktor is a fucking ROCK when he sleeps, whenever that actually may even happen. Completely unmoving, sometimes you have to look over to see if you even see him breathing.
Doesn’t Snore but mumbles sometimes in his sleep.
Sleeps on his side, if he doesn’t he probably can’t sleep or feels like shit in the morning.
Subconscious pencil tapper and pen clicker.
General fidgeter.
That social anxiety tho
Probably more of a cat person, likes dogs too but with Viktors work ethic he’d probably enjoy the company of an independent cat that lazily sits off to the side of his work table with the occasional head pats.
Probably has an automatic cat food dish for said cat because damn cats are -persistent- if you don’t feed them on a strict time schedule that they’ve made themselves.
Can NOT cook, do not let this man cook dinner for you oh my god.
Between never having time to actually learn recipes or how to cook things properly, just winging it, and the absolute GARBAGE he probably thinks even tastes good growing up in the Undercity, please do yourself a favor and either be the cook of the relationship or get take out.
Naps at his desk A LOT, never truly feeling rested though.
A true power nap king.
His record for staying awake is probably a week straight but crashed HARD at the end of that week.
Is pretty good with hand eye coordination and has a big imagination so is probably a good artist and draws a lot of his ideas and afterwards adds little texts around the drawing to label parts and their functions.
Doesn’t draw for pleasure though but will also mindlessly mark up his notes with small doodles while he’s thinking.
Touches his face and neck a lot while thinking as well.
Reads at the speed of light holy shit
You hand him several papers at a time to read and he just glances at them but has read and retained all the info of it.
Is a LITTLE touch starved but not willing to admit it and the only way you were ever able to tell was when you thoughtlessly put your hand on his shoulder and saw him quickly tense up but just as quickly relaxed and leaned a little more towards you and into the touch.

First Date (Frankie “Catfish” Morales x F!Reader)
Summary: Frankie only downloaded Tinder after Santi basically forced him to one night, and he never expected to actually meet anyone on there.
Word count: 2.4k
Content warnings: Oral (F receiving), P in V, age gap, online dating, condom used
(I haven’t written creatively in almost 7 years so if this is a waste of time I apologise, also tagging @absurdthirst because i sent them an anon last night about being nervous to post this lmao)
Frankie looked at your photo again and rubbed the back of his neck anxiously. He wasn’t used to this whole online dating thing, and he certainly hadn’t expected to meet anyone on it. Pope swore by it for one-night stands and fuck buddies, and practically forced him to download the app and create a profile while they were all at their favourite bar and Benny had gone home with some girl. He’d swiped right on only a few people and made even less matches. Any conversations he’d had on there fizzled out after a few hours after telling them he didn’t have Snapchat, or Facebook, or Twitter, or anything else like that.
Then he’d matched with you.
Your profile was simple – a couple selfies, a photo on a hike with a beautiful staffy, and a group shot on a night out. Your bio was short and sweet – criminal justice and community welfare student, intersectional feminist, nerd. Lover of cheesy one liners and bad jokes.
Frankie had swiped right almost immediately. The only thing that gave him pause was the age gap – twelve years between you. There were bigger gaps, of course, but he’d never dated anyone more than two years younger.
“You’re both grown adults,” Pope said looking over his shoulder, “what the fuck are you waiting for?”
So, with that, Frankie swiped right and was instantly greeted with a match. His stomach jumped again as you sent the first message, a simple but effective ‘hey, what do teachers and ancient history have in common? They both Babylon!’
You both chatted for a few more days before Frankie decided enough was enough. He asked you out for dinner and drinks at a local sushi place that had recently opened. He felt ill as he waited for your reply, wondering if it was too soon. It was almost an hour later that you replied ‘YES! How’s fri at 8:30 sound?’
It was a date. His first in over a year. The boys had come over to help him get ready, feeling like he was in high school all over again.
Frankie stood outside the restaurant, wishing he hadn’t left his cap in the truck, or at least wishing he’d picked somewhere that didn’t seem like it had an unwritten dress code. But he’d wanted to impress, and the reviews of this place had been positive.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside and moved towards the hostess. “Table for two, under Morales.”
“Right this way sir,” the hostess smiled at him and led him towards a table near the back, and Christ you were already there.
You were even more beautiful in person, in a tight dark dress, heels and a denim jacket thrown over the back of your chair. You were reading the menu, a small frown on your face as you squinted at it. You didn’t even notice him approach until he was standing right next to you. When you looked up, your mouth transforming into a grin, his heart skipped a beat.
“Frankie?” You said, your name sounding like heaven on your lips. Frankie sat down opposite you, his palms suddenly sweaty.
“Hey,” he went to say your name and you cut him off with a wave of your hand.
“Please, everyone I like calls me Sunny,” you grinned at him and he knew exactly why.
“Well, Sunny,” Frankie felt himself grin back at you, “it’s nice to finally meet you properly.”
“I’ve been so nervous all day,” you admitted, “but a good nervous, like nervous excited. I was supposed to be making notes on one of my lectures today, but I couldn’t stop thinking about this date. It’s been so long since I’ve been on one, I just stressed myself out about it all day.”
“Well, that makes two of us,” Frankie laughed, relieved to know that the insanely beautiful woman in front of him was just as out of sorts as he was. He was beginning to feel more at ease with you already, something he hadn’t felt with someone new in a long while.
The waitress arrived then, beaming down at you as she asked if you were ready to order. Frankie ordered a plate of sashimi and a spicy crab roll, while you got a veggie roll, and you both ordered a shot of soju.
“Don’t like fish?”
You shrugged, “I’m allergic, not like deathly or anything but I get a rash and a really bad stomach ache. It sucked when I was travelling through Asia a few years ago.”
Frankie frowned, instantly regretting even suggesting the restaurant in the first place. “We can go somewhere else if you like,” he suggested, ready to do anything he could to make this a perfect first date.
“Oh god, no!” You smiled and Frankie’s stomach jumped. “I’ve been wanting to come here for a while now, so when you suggested it, of course I was gonna say yes.”
Frankie felt a little relieved at that, and you two talked for a while, waiting for your meals. He found out your dog was called Lola, you loved old music, and you were a disability support worker before your close cousin went to prison and you decided to enrol in university to study criminal justice. You found out he was a pilot, ex-military and he loved classic lit.
You continued to talk through your meal and several more drinks. He was beginning to deeply enjoy the sound of your voice, your laugh. You made him feel like you two were the only people in the room, everyone else was insignificant.
Eventually though, you both felt it was time to give up your table to someone actually paying. You tried to pay for your own meal and drinks, but Frankie insisted on paying. You both walked outside into the chilly night air, and Frankie couldn’t help but admire how beautiful you were even under the streetlights. You cleared your throat and Frankie noticed a blush creeping up your cheeks.
“I uh, I don’t really want this night to end, do you?” you asked. Frankie decided to do what he could feel himself wanting to do all night.
He stepped forward, closing the gap between you as he cupped your soft cheeks in his rough, calloused hands and kissed you. Your reaction was almost immediate, wrapping your arms around his shoulders and running your fingers through his hair, pressing your bodies together. Your tongue darted along his bottom lip and he instantly granted you access, his own tongue sliding into your mouth. He wanted you. Desperately.
“Do you want to come back to mine,” Frankie asked, his hands slid down to your waist, he kissed along your neck, feeling your pulse flutter under his lips. You moaned softly as his mouth found your collarbone.
“Yes,” you whispered, “god yes.”
He kissed you again, before breaking away to lead you back to his truck.
“How far?” you asked.
“Five minutes,” Frankie said, resting his hand on your upper thigh where the hem of your dress ended. He felt himself tighten in his jeans as he thought about what he wanted to do to you. He driver faster than necessary, turning the journey into a quick three minutes. Once the truck was off you didn’t waste a moment, pulling yourself onto his lap, straddling him between your thighs. Your lips met his frantically, like you were both starving for each other.
Frankie’s hardness pressed against his jeans as you ground against him. He kissed down along your neck and jaw, relishing in your soft moans. One hand stayed planted firmly on your ass, the other snaked up your body to your breasts, pulling your dress down to expose them. You weren’t wearing a bra, and the sight of your breasts in the silver moonlight was irresistible. Frankie’s lips kissed a path down your neck to your collarbone, down further still until he had a hard nipple in his mouth. His tongue flicked over it gently, while his hand played with the other, rolling it around between his finger.
“Frankie,” you moaned, arching your back to give him better access. “Fuck.”
“You like that baby?” he whispered looking up at you. You whimpered in response as the hand on your breast moved down your body toward your thighs.
“Please,” you spread your legs a little further for him, and his fingers began to massage your clit though your soaking underwear. Frankie’s tongue continued to work at your nipple licking and sucking while you cried out in pleasure.
His fingers teased the outside of your entrance, his thumb working your clit in methodical circles.
“Cum for me,” he murmured, his voice husky. You moaned in response, unable to form any words as his fingers slid easily inside of you. Frankie watched your face as he fingered you, his own cock straining against his jeans. God he wanted to fuck you, but not until you’d already cum for him.
Frankie moved his thumb in faster circles and you began to fall apart. You clenched around his fingers, crying out as your body shook with your orgasm. He moved his mouth up to kiss you, whispering between kisses.
“Fuck you’re so sexy,” he groaned.
“We need to go inside,” you panted, your body still trembling slightly. Frankie couldn’t agree more, fumbling with the door of his truck, then his house keys. The moment the door was open you were on him, pulling his jacket off his shoulders, unzipping his jeans. Your bodies moved together in the direction of the kitchen, knocking something down in the process.
Frankie moaned into your mouth as your hands glided up his torso under his shirt. He pressed you against the counter and lifted you up, yanking your dress down to your ankles in the process.
“I want to taste you,” he whispered in your ear, “do you want that?”
“Yes, Frankie, please,” you begged, desperate for him to touch you. He grinned slyly as he crouched down slightly in front of you and spread your legs. The sight of your underwear, drenched with desire, made his mouth water.
Frankie didn’t want to waste a single moment more. With one quick move he slid your underwear down your legs and was working your clit with his tongue. Two fingers moved inside of you and quirked in a come-hither motion.
Your whine of pleasure spurred him on, his tongue massaging your clit expertly. Frankie wanted to tell you how good you tasted, how sexy you sounded, but he didn’t want to waste a moment that could be spent pleasuring you.
“Frankie!” you gasped, your back arching. Your thighs pressed into the side of his head and he moved faster, harder, cock aching with the need to be inside you.
“Frankie, I’m gonna-“ your words were cut short by your orgasm, this one somehow more intense than the one in his truck. Frankie looked up at your face as you came, mouth never leaving your sweet wetness. Your head hung back, moans the only sound you’re able to make. Licking his lips, Frankie stood and cupped the back of your head gently, lifting it so he can look in your eyes. He doesn’t know what he’s done to deserve someone as beautiful as you come home with him, but he wants to make certain it’s worth your while.
He leant down and whispered your name, the sound sweet on his lips. You sat up and kissed him gently, tasting yourself on him.
“Where’s your bed?” you murmured and Frankie smiled against you. Without another word he picked you up easily, wrapping your legs around his waist and carried you to his room, laying you gently on the bed. You looked beautiful, naked in the moonlight, staring up at him with desire.
Frankie discarded the rest of his clothes and climbed onto the bed so he’s hovering over you. His fingers traced soft circles on your waist.
“Are you sure you want to?” he asked
“I need you in me,” you reached up and pulled him closer, “I need you.”
Frankie reached over to his dresser and grabbed a condom, saying a silent thanks to his past self for buying them, and fitted it onto his shaft. Then he couldn’t wait a moment longer.
He lined himself up at your slick entrance, and slowly, gently, not wanting to hurt you with his larger than average size. You whimpered slightly as he pulled out, bucking your hips to stay closer to him.
Fuck you felt so good, you tight walls clenching slightly with each thrust. His thrusts became harder, slamming into you as his own ecstasy built. He moaned your name as you held onto his biceps, nails digging into his warm sweaty skin.
He didn’t know how much longer he could hold off on his own release, and with you looking at him they way you were, you made it almost impossible to hold back. But no, he wouldn’t. Not until you came a third time for him. He needed to feel you cum with his cock inside you.
Frankie moved his hand so it was between you both, and began to massage your slick, swollen clit. You cried out and clenched his biceps harder, and he felt the moment you couldn’t hold yourself back any longer, your walls tightening around his cock, coating it with your pleasure.
“Cum, Frankie,” you whispered in his ear, and god he wanted to. Frankie grunted as he finally couldn’t hold back any longer. Pleasure flushed through his body as he came to the sound of you moaning his name. In that moment, the only tangible things were his orgasm, the feel of you and your voice. It was a few moments before his thoughts became coherent again. He had never experienced pleasure like that with any other woman.
Reluctantly, he pulled out of you, noticing a bead of sweat that had formed between your breasts. Your eyes were half closed, but you watched him as he discarded the condom into a wastebasket, grabbed a box of tissues and with a touch gentler than he thought possible for him, began to clean up between your legs.
“You’re amazing,” he murmured. “Do you know how amazing you are?”
You giggled softly, sitting up to kiss him. “You’re the one who made me cum three times. Most guys can’t even manage once.”
Frankie stroked your cheek, his forehead pressed against yours, deciding in that moment you were someone he did not want to let go of. “Wanna stay the night?”
“Fuck yes.”

The Arrangement Ch. 16
Story summary: Desperately in need of money, you answered the questionable ad. AKA-Arranged marriage AU featuring Y/N and Yoongi
Chapter Summary: Dinner at the “Best Diner in Seoul.” (Still not a date though, right?)
Previous Chapter here
The two of you dropped the van off without any issues. You walked outside the rental agency, onto the main street stretching your arms overhead. You turned to face Yoongi, “Alright, are you ready for dinner at the best diner in Seoul?”
Yoongi smiled, glad you had rallied from earlier. He put his hands in his pockets. “The best? I don’t know; that’s a pretty high standard. This is a world-class city.”
You started to walk, “It is, and I have eaten a lot of places. This one is the best diner.”
Yoongi followed you to the subway station. “Where is this diner?” He asked. The subway was uncrowded, with not much of a rush happening on Sunday night. You each scanned your cards.
“It’s by work.”
Yoongi racked his brain trying to think of a diner near BigHit but wasn’t able to. He shrugged.
The subway car was mostly empty and the ride back to the city center was smooth. Yoongi scrolled through his phone. You got off and you led him down a few alleyways to an unassuming diner. It was truly a hole in the wall.
The neon sign above the door, “Dynamite Diner,” had a few letters out: DYMT DNER. Yoongi chuckled slightly and made a confused face, but took your word for it as you opened the door. The inside of the diner was clean and brightly decorated. There was a counter with bright white stools and several cherry red booths around the perimeter. Donuts sat in a display case next to a vintage register up on the countertop.
“I should have brought my sunglasses,” Yoongi joked as he followed you over to one of the booths. You laughed and put both your personal and work phones on the table and stretched. You were certain you would be sore tomorrow from moving all those boxes.
"What is that?" Yoongi asked, sounding mildly horrified as he gestured to your personal phone.
"Oh this?" You held it up. You had jokingly changed your lock screen to the picture you took of him sleeping the other night to see how long it would take him to notice. "It's you, looking so adorable."
His eyes widened "You put Tubby on me."
"Aww is that the bear's name?” You turned the phone back towards you to look at it. “So cute".
Yooongi touched his ear awkwardly, "It’s a dog, not a bear. Tubby was my family's pet growing up; our first dog. Anyways, I can't be your lock screen!" He pouted, a slight accent suddenly permeating his speech.
You looked over at him, trying to keep a straight face. "Ok first of all it looks like a bear, but that it was your family’s dog makes it even more adorable. Secondly, it's my personal phone sooo…. Third. where are you from?”
“What...what does that...Daegu.”
You smirked and looked at your phone again. “I guess if it really bothers you I can change it, but look? It makes me smile." You held it up and grinned.
The waitress came over, dropped off menus, and took your drink orders: Coffee, water, and a cup of ice for Yoongi.
"Oh my God, keep it." Yoongi opened his menu, clearly flustered.
You laughed, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, just stop showing it to me. Put it face down."
You smiled and complied, then flipped through the menu. “Why did we both just order coffee?” You asked. “It’s 9 pm. That’s a terrible idea.”
“I can drink coffee and fall asleep, no problem. What's good here?”
“The noodles are really good. I'm getting the gaeranjim tonight. I used to come here after working at the bar since it's open 24/7.”
Yoongi looked over at, watching you scan the menu. You gave so much to the people you cared about." Spicy or regular?"
"Huh?" You asked, bobbing your head back up.
"Spicy noodles or plain?"
"It's cold out, so you have to get spicy." You said it so matter of factly.
“Ok, of course. Why did I even ask?”
You put the menu down and grabbed your work phone. "Let's see what this week brings. Meetings. Meetings. Sound mixing? Recording. Meet with Hoseok. Hair and make-up department. Photo shoot? Photo shoot?"
Yoongi sat his menu down and interlaced his fingers in front of his face, resting his mouth against them. “Yep. They want new pictures for social media and for the album. My next album deadline is in 90 days but they begin all of this stuff in advance for things like printing and promos.”
“Oooo so you'll be like a model?”
Yoongi rolled his eyes and the server walked up to the table. She sat down all of the drinks carefully. The two of you placed your food orders and handed in the menus.
“Min Yoongi. Model.' You teased, striking a pose.
“Are you saying I'm not good looking enough to be a model?” He feigned offense while pouring his coffee over the ice and stirring it.
“Oh please, I told you at the job interview I thought you were good looking. It's just hard to imagine you sitting still and being pretty.”
Yoongi rubbed the back of his neck. “Well it's in my contract. And my fans like it. As much as I hate parts about my job, I do love my fans. " He took a sip of his drink.
“That's sweet.” You smiled.
Yoongi blushed a little, “Well I wouldn't be where I am without them, right? You have to have an audience to be a performer. Someone has to listen, otherwise you're just screaming into the void.”
“I guess that makes sense. Being on the consumer side of things I never really thought of it like that. Huh.” You sat back in the booth thoughtfully and sipped some coffee.
Yoongi looked out the glass window at the street outside. It had been a strange couple of weeks for him and yet this all felt normal. He couldn't remember the last time he had gone out to a restaurant with someone because he wanted to. He covered a yawn and looked back over at you.
You were people watching in the diner. You were normally only here in the middle of the night. The bell above the entrance dinged and you saw Chinsun, your regular server, walk in to begin her night shift. You smiled as you remembered all the coffee and bullshit you had shared with her. There were nights you got off work at 3 and knew it made more sense to power through and go into the office. You decided you would talk to her later if she wasn't busy.
The food came out a few minutes later. Hunger had snuck up on you. You went from zero to famished. You began blowing on your meal.
“Y/N?” You heard the familiar voice of Chinsun “I haven't seen you in a while.” She had on her white and red work uniform and her graying hair done up in a bun.
You looked up from your eggs and smiled, “Nice to see you. I quit working at the bar, I just have 1 job now.” You said happily.
“That's great, you can only burn the candle from both ends for so long. I'm surprised you did it for as long as you did.” She responded.
You shrugged and took a sip of water. “Well we all do what we have to.”
“And?.... who is your friend?” Chinsun gestured to Yoongi who was mid-slurp on his noodles. Apparently he was also starving.
“This is my boss, Min Yoongi.”
He patted his mouth with a napkin before speaking, “Hello,” he bowed his head. “Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Chinsun. It’s nice to meet you too. Well I'll let you get back to your meal, I'm glad you stopped by, I was worried when I didn’t see you for a while. Make sure you two come back!”
“Thank you. You are so sweet. I’ll make sure to stop in again soon, take care.” You took a bite as soon as she left.
“These noodles are in fact, the best.” Yoongi appraised between slurps.
“I told you. You can’t beat a hole in the wall diner sometimes. So...new album in 90 days? How’s it going?”
“It’s ok. A few songs are done. I got feedback from Adora last week so that was helpful. This album in general will be less….angry. Yeah less angry sounding.”
“Cool. What comes first, the music or the lyrics?”
“They are separate completely. The music and then I see if any of the lyrics I’ve written match the mood. Sometimes it just goes together and sometimes it doesn’t.”
“Interesting.”
Yoongi talked a bit more about the process of creating an album from start to finish. You had never put any thought into it so it was fascinating. The rest of your meal passed without incident and you were happy that when they brought the bill, Yoongi actually let you pay.
You waved to Chinsun as you exited. Yoongi rubbed his stomach. “Too many noodles.”
You smiled and then looked up at the sky. It was beginning to snow. “No such thing. And look. What great timing. The first snow of the year.”
“Gross.” He quickly replied.
“Ahahaha you really hate the cold don’t you?” You said as you held out your hand, watching the flakes land and melt almost instantly.
“I do. The snow is pretty though. I’ll look at it tomorrow from the warmth and safety of inside.”
“You’re no fun. I love the snow.” You played with it for a few more seconds. “Alright let’s get back.”
The snow continued to fall as you began the short walk back to BigHit. It was so pretty. The sidewalk was almost empty and the snowfall made it seem even quieter than it was. You took your phone out and snapped a picture for Instagram. In a few minutes, you were back at the building. The two of you scanned your badges to enter the lobby and waved to the night security guard.
“I’m heading to the studio. You should take some aspirin and a hot bath.” Yoongi said while you waited for the elevator.
You reached over without thinking and dusted snowflakes off of his hair. “Do you need help with anything? I also had coffee, I’ll probably be up for a while.”
Yoongi was briefly unable to answer, still surprised from having been dusted. “Nope. I’m just going to write. Go, rest your muscles. Watch Netflix. Relax. You literally moved a small apartment’s worth of stuff today.”
The two of you got on the elevator. “Alright. If you insist. I’m not going to argue with that. Where is the aspirin?”
“My bathroom. Bottom left drawer.”
“Got it.” The elevator slowly climbed. You took a deep breath and looked over at Yoongi. “Thanks again for all your help today. Like. ALLLLL of it. The van, my aunt, my brother. Thanks. It was a lot.”
Yoongi avoided eye contact, finding his shoes very fascinating. “No problem. Like I said, it wasn’t that bad for me. I got free soup and noodles.”
You laughed, “Good to know your chauffeur services are so affordable.” The elevator stopped on the 14th floor.
“See you tomorrow.” Yoongi started to exit, “If Jin’s girlfriend acts up, call me.” Yoongi added as though he suddenly remembered something.
“Now that I know that’s a thing, apparently, I’ll be fine. Thanks though.” You waved as the doors closed.
You’d be fine. Yoongi reassured himself as he walked over to the studio. He was suddenly acutely aware of just how quiet the 14th floor was with no one else on it. He walked over to the large windows on the opposite side of the elevators. The snow was really coming down now, and the ground would soon be blanketed. He opened the shopping app and searched “snow gloves.” He took a deep breath, What am I doing? He walked over to the other side of the floor, punched in his passcode, and entered Genius lab, ready to get some writing done.
--
Fuck, you were so glad today was almost over. You walked into the apartment and immediately started a bath. You set up your laptop on the toilet lid. You were going to live your best life, watching Netflix in the bathtub. You had heard of such luxuries and were strangely excited by it. You headed up to the loft area, randomly grabbed a stuffed animal and threw it onto Yoongi’s bed. You grabbed the aspirin and smiled as you passed the Pikachu you had yeeted onto Yoongi’s comforter and imagined his annoyance when he discovered it. Ah, it made you laugh. You grabbed yourself some water from the kitchen and headed off to soak away your soreness and forget the day. You paused briefly to admire the snow coming down in full force now. So beautiful. The road fell away in front of you as you scrolled mindlessly on your phone. After a round of brusque insistence on his behalf, you'd finally given in and let Seokjin convince you into relinquishing the driver's seat after a couple of hours on the road. You made sure to grumble in protest before plonking yourself down on the passenger side, him brushing you off easily.
You’d put the memory of the thoughtless kiss to the back of your mind, hoping that he’d forgotten just as swiftly. You were here to enjoy your trip, not to overthink about what had happened in the past. Thinking back on the past 24 hours, you sighed in defeat.
Let’s hope we don’t crash.
*hours earlier*
You both arrived at the meeting place after countless attempts of stuttering out the most confusing directions to the driver. At this point, you almost wanted to pass out and it was still relatively early.
Managing to greet all your aunties, uncles, and cousins as a couple of lovebirds came effortlessly enough. It was nothing but a way of life for you and Seokjin these days.
“(Y/n) you’ve grown so much. Oh, I’m going to cry!”
You tried to calm one of your more eccentric aunties while your husband stood awkwardly to the side, looking around at the gathered group of people in contemplation. Dressed casually again, he hadn’t been prepared for the sheer number of everyday individuals preparing to depart. All beside a line of large black and white motorhomes which were currently fuelling up under the shade of nearby woodland.
Once the two of you finally managed to break away from the introductions and reunions, you let out a sigh of relief. You were finally alone, sinking into the refurbished leather seats of the vehicle to regain your composure. Dealing with a horde of chipper relatives can deplete one’s energy like a starved leech if it continues for too long.
“Sorry, they’re just excited.” You laughed airily, leaning forward to switch on the air conditioner. The temperature outside was already heating up from the unforgiving sun, and you were going to positively drown in sweat if you didn’t get some cold air blasting on you lickety-split.
“They’re…lively. But it’s okay, I signed up for it anyway,” the tall man replied with a smirk of his own. He seemed amused at how quickly you'd been swamped, but he also seemed to notice how happy you were at receiving all the attention.
“The first one will probably leave soon. I’ll start driving and then if you want you can switch with me later. We won’t make it to the first stop today, but it’ll most likely end up being late tomorrow morning,” you explained while readying yourself at the wheel of the vehicle. Seokjin hummed in acknowledgement and craned his long neck backwards to ensure your bags were all safe a secure.
You admired how comfortable he looked in his simple travelling clothes. How he could pull off such a simple but effective appearance that highlighted his handsome features, such as his dusky brown eyes and midnight coloured locks of hair - hair that had grown out and gotten nicely longer, you might add - was a complete and utter mystery to you.
“By the way, we don’t have to put on as much of an act here with these people,” you began on a weirdly sombre note, trying not to look over at him for a reaction. “The whole relationship thing doesn’t matter to them as much. They won’t get suspicious or question us, so don’t stress too much about going all out, alright?”
“Okay,” came his simple reply, void of much emotion.
You didn’t know why you expected anything else, but a small part of you longed to continue pretending. You wanted to be with him, wanted to feel his hands on your skin again. It was almost too much for you to handle. You couldn’t imagine anyone else ever feeling so conflicted about their own lover, not to mention having hands on your arms of all places.
Absurd. Right?
Suddenly, the motorhome in front of you began rolling forward and you pressed down slowly on the gas pedal to follow suit. Seokjin twisted his broad shoulders back around to face the front, blinking harshly as the sunlight shone through the windscreen and hit him forcefully in the face.
Your lips quirked up in an amused smirk. What a goof.
*present*
Your eyes drooped with a heavy sleepiness as Seokjin finally pulled the truck into the site where everyone would be camping. The drive had been quite lengthy, but you’d been swapping every few hours or so until you’d become too tired to go on. Being the husband-material he was, Seokjin gladly took the burden of getting you both through the rest of the way.
“Hey wake up, everyone’s getting out for some reason.”
You blinked the sleep out of your eyes and groaned, feeling slightly more energised from your nap but still groggy. You slowly made your way down the steps and outside into the humid air, nostalgic memories finally flowing into your mind as you watched the members of your family collecting around several bright vans.
“Oh, this is the food truck stop,” you rasped out in a matter-of-factly tone, causing Seokjin to eye you in confusion. It was luckily still light enough to catch his dumbfounded expression.
“There are food trucks in this parkland area, so we can go and buy some hot-dogs or something if we want. It’s always the first dinner stop,” you tried to explain mid-yawn. The sky was blending into darkness as the sun began to set below the horizon.
“You’re so sleepy.” Seokjin snorted lowly, almost chuckling when you looked up at him through glaring watery eyes from the yawn, as if it weren’t obvious enough. He looked fairly relaxed, and you gently smiled at the sight of his beautiful eyes lighting up with wonder at the view of the campsite around him.
It was enthralling, how fascinated he was with absolutely everything. Even though the red cap sitting atop his black mop of hair cast a shadow over his face, it was still easy to spot just how eager he was to just enjoy life normally for once. To be a commoner and forget about all the pressed suits he had hanging up at home, the bucket loads of cash sitting in his bank account, the disapproving parents.
Now was the time he could finally taste the sweetness of freedom.
All of a sudden, the tall man left a tap on your shoulder and leaned in close once you faced him curiously. The stuffy fog of sleep was immediately chased away from your whirring mind, and you widened your eyes in shock when one of his hands pulled you closer, indicating what he wanted you to do with a simple touch.
Is he initiating a kiss, for once?
You reacted almost instantly to his subtle body language, everything coming naturally as you stepped in closer and raised your lips to peck his plump ones sweetly. Your whole body was buzzing with eruptions of joy, heat and surprise at the impulse; hands curling into his shirt so that you could feel the warmth of his body even more…for just a little bit longer. It was so rare for him to be bold like this.
For a single second, you forgot what your relationship truly was and felt - for the first time - what it was like to pour your heart into loving another person.
An older man cackled with his friend as they shared a beer together. “My, you young ones are just so passionate, aren’t you?” You swept some hair back behind your ear and ducked your head to hide the embarrassed flush. Or maybe you were trying to hide the stupid smile sitting on your face.
“I’ll get some food for us,” Seokjin said after another few moments of observing the place. You inwardly gaped at him as he moved towards one of the colourful food trucks, wondering if he was going to actually cover you for food.
What's gotten into him? Maybe it’s just because he’s used to putting on a performance, and that it’s such a different setting on top of that.
You shook your head to rid yourself of the fluffy feelings and jogged up to where your dark-haired partner was lining up for hot dogs.
“Do you want me to give you some cash for mine?” you asked hesitantly, gaze imploring for his attention again.
“No, go find a table to sit at,” he murmured, flicking his head upwards to point out a group of empty wooden tables nearby. You were pleasantly surprised at his motive and couldn’t help the way your jaw went slightly slack, simply stunned. Eventually, you complied and headed over towards the seats.
He'd looked so refreshed and so pleased with himself. Even with the weariness brought on by the long and tiresome journey.
The whole area was illuminated by a few atmospheric park lamps, but everyone knew that it would soon grow too dark to stay outside for much longer. Plus, you’d all need a good night’s sleep if you were going to make it to your stop tomorrow. You almost groaned again at the thought of driving so early.
“Here, I forgot to ask what drink you wanted, but you usually like bubbly stuff so I got a soft drink.”
Bit different from champagne, you surmised, but it was cute that he thought like that.
Seokjin placed a can next to where your arm was resting on the tabletop. Then, he held out a delicious looking hot dog sprinkled with fried onion rings, and you couldn’t stop the way your stomach grumbled and growled at the sight.
“I’m a starved woman, thank you.’’
He sat down and glanced around at the groups of people chatting, the strange but somehow never misplaced glimmer of interest never faltering in his eyes. On the other hand, you essentially inhaled the meal in front of you despite how weird it felt to ingest such cheap and fattening food. After months of high-class dining, it was more peculiar than one would think. Even something as unfamiliar as eating such a messy meal didn’t bother either one of you after the day you'd had.
“So, you don’t go around and talk to them much?” Seokjin questioned in a light tone of voice, picking his long and slightly curved fingers clean of any crumbs. The man was picturesque in how calm and concentrated he was. You decided that you liked that look of determination on him, even if it was for something so insignificant.
“I do, but I’m not really in the mood right now.” You sighed, resting your face into your palm so that you could ease the tension in your sore neck. You cast your gaze downwards and hoped that you wouldn’t regret your next words.
“Plus, I kind of want to spend most of my time on this trip with you.”
His eyes stared into yours from across the table, unblinking as he was thrown into one of his strange thoughtful silences.
You rushed to elaborate in a panic. “I-I … well I’ve done this trip many times and I thought it’d be nice to get to know each other a little bit more. We haven’t really asked many questions during the past few months, and I already feel so peaceful travelling together that I thought it’d be cool to just spend some time away from all the parties and shit to really relax and talk, you know?”
Cool? Did I really just say it'd be cool if we talked? Fuck you (Y/n).
You took a rickety breath and clasped both your hands together to try and hide your flustered appearance. With pursed lips and a slight cringe from the ranting accompanying your nerves, you searched his gaze with your own to try your best at reading him.
“Yeah, I know. It would make everything easier if we knew more about each other, so I don’t have to make up more lies,” he eventually spoke after clearing his throat quietly.
You thought he would’ve been more uncomfortable, or rather less than willing to take you up on the suggestion, but you were surprised yet again at his almost enthusiastic response. Was he finally letting you see past the high and sturdy walls he’d built up at the beginning of your relationship? If you didn’t know any better, you’d say he was coming out of his shell a little as well, but then again it wasn’t as if you knew enough to make that observation in any kind of confidence.
Maybe he's always been more open like this to people he was close with, and you were only just beginning to see this side. Even if that was the case, it made you happy to think that he was starting to trust you enough to change the way he acted. You were content enough to be considered as something close to a friend, at least.
“It’s late. We should head in,” his familiar voice snapped you out of your rampant thoughts, causing your feelings of bewilderment to skyrocket.
I need to keep my shit together!
“Yeah, sorry for spacing out.” You laughed, trying to shrug off the mortification at failing to keep your wits about you. Maybe if he stopped being so oddly charming with his perfect lips and enigmatic eyes, you’d be able to focus a little better.
You made your way to the last motorhome in the line. Seokjin had parked it a little ways from the others, almost as if he’d sensed your need for privacy and solitude. You were somewhat introverted at the best of times, so after a whole day of socialising you really wanted nothing more than to retreat back to your own little space to recuperate.
Had he figured that out, or was it just a lucky guess? Maybe he was just the same…
You followed him into the portable house and weaved yourself around the table and sofa lounges, eventually coming to stop by the comfy looking queen bed at the very back. This was where things would get weird again. You’d never shared a bed before tonight, and the couches weren’t large enough to allow anyone space to sleep either.
“Ah, I guess we don’t have a choice. You don’t mind, do you?” you remarked reluctantly, knowing that you were more than happy to have company in your bed, but he might not feel the same.
“Well what else can I do?” He shrugged with indifference. “I would’ve taken the couch if I could’ve already.”
“Right, sorry I didn’t tell you before we left.”
You sighed, more embarrassment clouding your vision as you hurriedly searched the inside of your suitcase for a flimsy shirt. It was way too hot during the summertime to wear a full set of pyjamas, so you hoped Seokjin wouldn’t feel even more uncomfortable by your choice of clothing.
Better than being naked.
You shuddered with heat at the thought but pushed it all away quickly. This was already bad enough as it was.
“It’s fine, I honestly don’t mind if you don’t,” he grunted while beginning to unbutton his shirt. You swallowed thickly at the sight of his broad chest and collarbone slowly getting revealed the lower he went. That, paired with the way his hair had become messy and rugged after driving and running his hands through it, was a dangerous combination you were enjoying way too much.
“Well, I don’t. Never did." You smiled nervously before moving to the bathroom to get changed.
You knew that sharing a bed with him after so many months was never going to be an easy feat. It was awkward at best, with you trying your best to ignore the thoughts of him being so close - thanks to your fear of doing something unpredictable - and him having no trouble forgetting you were there altogether. It was nothing for him. Somehow, he could just sleep the night away and not think about the presence of other people constantly.
The sound of soft breathing, the occasional movement of a foot or arm, the slight rise of the duvet with every deep inhale, or even the dreamy mumbling slipping past lips every now and again. You envied the peaceful way he drifted off, knowing that living with siblings most likely allowed him to factor these things right out.
For you, they were things that kept your eyes wide open, mind running a million miles a minute.
~
The next morning brought you to the first town on the itinerary. The sleepless night faded away as you parked the large vehicle next to the others, legs already bouncing with excitement at the thought of finally visiting some of your old childhood pastimes.
You all spent the day traipsing through the streets while some of the older family members greeted the shopkeepers and residents heartily. You could feel your heart bursting at the sight of Seokjin looking around the place with wide eyes, obvious amazement lighting up his face as he regarded the interactions of those around him. There was a growing fondness there you never thought you’d see.
One parkland picnic later, and the two of you found yourselves mingling with the crowd. You surprisingly found it easy to talk about your married life together. Even though he was quiet and unsure of how to act, everyone loved Seokjin and found great amusement in teasing and joking around with him. Many times you had to bite your tongue to hold back a snort of laughter. The old uncles and aunties never did hold back their rowdy banter.
“I remember when I was first married, son,” your eldest cousin said and clapped a hand firmly onto Seokjin’s shoulder, “It’s always magical at first, but soon you’ll want to chew your own ear off!”
You all laughed at his sardonic humour. Everyone, even the hopeless romantics, knew that marriage was never supposed to be perfect.
“It can’t be magical the whole time?” Seokjin asked thoughtfully, the tone of his voice light-hearted but the nature of the question way too innocent for your boisterous family to bypass.
Okay, maybe not everyone knew.
You almost choked on your sandwich when the people around you burst into loud laughter, feeling sorry for your husband. He just didn’t know the group of people he was dealing with yet.
The older men clinked their beers together. “Look at this guy, he wants a life-long honeymoon phase!”
“Nah, I think he’s looking for an early grave instead.”
You furrowed your brows and yelled through a smile, “Hey! What do you take me for, a monster?”
They exchanged wide-eyed looks and chuckled again before waving you off and tousling your hair affectionately.
“Be careful or I’ll tell Aunty what you said.” You giggled, trying to fix your messy tresses.
The loud and harmless jesting continued amongst the rest of the group while you turned to see how Seokjin was going with his food. A smile curved your lips again when you spotted the slight crinkle appearing at the corners of his eyes. He was amused, and the way the beaming sunlight streamed down through the tree branches to light up his grinning face was breathtakingly perfect.
His eyes shifted to meet yours suddenly, and you were glad it didn’t cause his expression to change. His gaze, irrevocably beautiful, was so warm and lively. If you could, you would want to see him this happy for the rest of his life.
“Son,” he mouthed quietly after shifting his gaze away from your awestruck scrutiny, “I’m still waiting for my own father to call me that.”
A ruthless stab to your chest. Not only from his words, but rather the lack of emotion he expressed while speaking them.
You didn’t know the kind of relationships he’d had, or how he’d lived his life so far, but trying to find out was like trying to connect with a brick wall. This simple statement about his father had you swallowing back sympathy, and it was upsetting to think that you’d never even once thought to ask him about it.
You wanted – no, you needed him to open up to you.
Quickly sifting through one of the cute picnic baskets led you to find a bundle of sweet packaged snacks. You would do anything to wipe that distantly forlorn look off his face, and universal law stated that candy was sure-fire way to lift anyone’s spirits. You personally loved them, but it was tough to determine if his tastes would match.
“Want a jelly?”
“Wait, you mean-” he started, but cut himself off when you finally fished out a specific packet and let out a small ‘ah!’ of triumph. His eyes shone with recognition, and you became confused at his unexpected reaction.
“I haven’t had these since I was young. They were my favourite, but my mother wanted us to stop eating too many sugary things…” Seokjin revealed, his lips pulling up into a smirk as he recalled his childhood memories.
“Well, you’re on your own now, and I’m not going to stop you. So here.” You chuckled and waited until he’d grabbed a handful of jellies before popping one into your own mouth.
Seokjin shook his head with a huff. He obviously found it stupid how he’d followed the strict rules of his parents for so long, not allowing himself to rebel in the slightest. It had never been an option before, but now here he was – living in a motorhome, eating hot dogs and jellies, basically hitchhiking through old weary towns rather than having his head down working for a big-time business firm.
You watched his eyes trail over you again, almost picking up his phantom of a voice saying, “So this is the life I could have lived.”
It brought a smile to your face as you thought about the way his gaze had lit up and drank everything in with such fervour. His cold and masquerade-like world was changing, he was seeing life from a different perspective, and knowing that you’d played a part in that brought you immense joy.
It was a warm glow of happiness you’d never felt or known before.
Night fell once more. Everyone filtered away to their beds, eyes drooping and bellies full of the various baked goods of the town. It had been an amazing day, and you knew you couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to help Seokjin emerge from his shell.
He seemed to be enjoying the trip for the exact same reasons you always had. Except now, you had another.

so here's that fic with avarice and vega i promised! ages ago! it also just so happens to be the first time they met :)
also! a reminder that the situation with chio was incredibly traumatic! he's fine with literally any other physical contact (a little starved for it, actually), but he won't let anyone touch his neck. totally nothing to do with having needles shoved into his neck repeatedly for several weeks to forcibly drug him into complacency.
it is such a surprise vega hasn't been killed in a lab 'accident' yet.
they are insufferable together, but at least vega is a half-decent role model. sort of. i mean. he's like 60% more mentally stable so that's gotta count for something. at least he Tries to fit into polite society.
~~~
When Fabrica had told him he would be working with another person, Avarice didn’t question it. A minor hindrance, sure, but nothing he couldn’t handle. He wouldn’t complain to a monarch - especially one with such a high level of influence such as Miss Fabrica Kiriatta (not to her face, anyway). He knew his etiquette. He could be civil.
“Hello,” a changeling (they weren’t normally this obvious, were they?) with long, pale hair outstretched their hand to him. “Avarice, right? From Aublilon? Is it true that they raise you workers from birth, there?”
Avarice raised an eyebrow. “Charming. It is. How about your name, darling?”
“Oh! My mistake. Vega Mochizuki. Polaris.”
“Polaris?” He put on a mock-interested voice. He couldn’t help himself. “Is it true you’re all trust-fund cowards spoonfed directly by the richest people alive?”
Pause. Neither of them broke eye contact.
“Well, aren’t you the feisty one?” Vega teased, “Definitely on your high horse for a trained dog.”
“Trained dog?” Avarice mused, still refusing to take his eyes off the changeling in front of him. “That’s an interesting way to say ‘naturally talented’. No need for jealousy, sweetheart.”
Vega let out a short laugh, incredulous. “Jealous? You were raised like a show animal, what is there to be jealous of?”
“Oh, just let me think…” he mocked, “Resolve, intelligence, talent, general superiority-”
“-lack of free will, non-existent social skills, ignorance of the outside world, probably some serious mental health issues,” Vega listed on his fingers, taking no small amount of satisfaction in the affronted noise that Avarice made when he mentioned that last one. “Do I need to go on?”
“Point taken, Pulsar lapdog.”
“Oh! So the circus lion’s a crackpot conspiracy theorist, too!”
“Oh, please.” Avarice rolled his eyes. “Spare me the theatrics, we all know where you get your ‘government funding’.”
“As if money laundering and tax evasion is any better?”
“Better than being another Pulsar lackey.”
Vega stepped forward, the smallest hint of frustration in his voice. “We aren’t with the Pulsars.”
Avarice just smirked and shrugged in response, raising his hands in mock surrender. “Of course not, dear. And I’d appreciate a little more respect, if you don’t mind. Drop the attitude.”
“Were you trained to talk like that? Speaking of which, if I told you to roll over, would you do it?”
“Prick,” Avarice hissed.
“Mutt.”
“Pig.”
“Bitch.”
“Insect.”
“Freak.”
“Pulsar sugar baby.”
“Aubilon showdog.”
“Fucking third-rate-”
“Am I interrupting something?” Both parties - who were now very much within a sword’s-length of each other - turned at Fabrica’s voice. “No, please, do continue. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing you both at each other’s throats.”
Vega coughed. “I apologise, ma’am. How long have you been here?”
“The whole time,” she smiled. “I don’t mind, but please keep personal affairs and grudges outside of work. You understand?”
They both nodded, albeit glaring the other down the whole time. Fabrica smiled, not believing it for a second. “I’ll leave you to it, then.”
There were a few moments after she swept out of the door, as they both waited for her footsteps to become inaudible. Vega was the first to speak.
“I want to test something, if you don’t mind.”
“I mind,” he insisted, quite firmly. That didn’t stop Vega from turning on his heel to face him, an insufferable grin on his face, and pointing one finger in his direction.
“Sit.”
Avarice recognised a command spell being cast: he had quite the array of experience with the feeling - an impulse that wasn’t quite his shooting through his body, unexpected and unwanted, as uncontrollable as blinking or breathing. The recognition did not, however, stop him from collapsing into a cross-legged position the second the words left Vega’s lips, pain shooting through his legs as they hit the ground with force. He at least had the dignity not to cry out, especially since Vega’s laughing was starting to get on his nerves.
“Oh! So you are like a dog!”
“Piss off,” he muttered, starting to stand up. Vega cleared his throat.
“Ah-ah! Stay.”
He froze. He knew that was another spell, but yet again he found himself returning to his original position, unmoving and seething. Vega knelt down to his level, locking eyes with Avarice and smirking. “Who’s a good boy?”
“I will fucking kill you,” he spat.
“Oh yeah?” he hummed, placing a hand on his neck and rubbing a thumb across it playfully, not noticing the other scientist freeze up. “Reckon you’d suit a collar, psycho?”
Avarice’s breath hitched. He couldn’t respond. Normally, he’d bat his hand away before he could think too much about it, but he couldn’t move, he couldn’t move, he couldn’t move and all he could focus on was the hand on his neck and he felt like he was choking. This wasn’t Chio. This wasn’t the same situation. He shouldn’t be feeling like this right now; he shouldn’t feel like this at all, feeling like this was weak but he couldn’t move and there was a hand on his neck and fuck he felt so unbearably helpless. It hurt. It hurt, and he was helpless, and he couldn’t control it, he couldn’t control anything, and his chest stung and his head was all static and he didn’t know how long he’d been hyperventilating. He barely even knew where he was. This was weak. This was weak, and he’d pay for it. He’d pay for it like he had with Chio. His head hurt. Everything was static.
He barely registered Vega dispelling his magic, or the awkward attempted reassurances. He did, however, register the pressure on his neck transferring down to wrap clumsily around his torso, and he certainly felt himself collapse his whole weight forwards and rest his head in the ruffles of Vega’s shirt as he evened out his breathing. This was fine. This wasn’t Chio.
“Hey- hey, it’s- I mean, I- I didn’t mean to do that,” Vega finally settled on as Avarice came to his senses, after a few hastily stammered explanations that he half-hoped he was too far gone to hear. “You’re alright?”
There was a long pause. Avarice managed to push himself away from Vega as harshly as possible, getting to his feet albeit a little shakily. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Mind telling me what I did to elicit that reaction?”
“Why?” The response was instant and defensive. Vega hadn’t meant it as an attack, but the reaction he was getting made it clear that Avarice had taken it as one. He explained as carefully as he could.
“So that I don’t cause it again. Obviously.”
“Why wouldn’t you?” he retorted, looking not unlike a cornered puppy. Vega sighed.
“I’m not going to hurt you, you paranoid fuck, just tell me why you freaked out.”
Avarice blinked slowly. Narrowed his eyes. Then let out a small sigh, and pointed to his neck, elaborating only with a hesitant “don’t.”
“Alright. That’s all I wanted to know,” he shrugged. “I’d ask why, but it could be anything with you Aubilon lot, so I’d probably rather not know.”
He rolled his eyes. “You’re a prick. Mind doing me a favour?”
“I do mind, actually.”
“Cool,” he shrugged off, disregarding Vega’s response entirely in favour of taking a quarterstaff to the back of his knees and watching him collapse, letting out a surprised yelp. He knelt down to his level and smiled, taking out a vial of who-knows-what from his pocket and holding it out to him without once breaking eye contact. “Oh, and you didn’t think I’d let you get away with disrespecting me like that, did you, sweetheart? We have some testing to do.”
Vega averted his eyes nervously, taking the vial with hands that were much less stable than he thought they were. “I’m- I’m not drinking this.”
Avarice leant in, still smiling. “Oh, but you are. Don’t worry, though, it’s perfectly safe. Or, at least, it won’t kill you. I hope.”
“You can’t make me-”
“Can’t I?” he hummed, in a tone that suggested that he absolutely could. “Would you like to take your chances?”
A pause. Then Vega shuddered, said a prayer, and downed the vial.
It was killing you inside, keeping to yourself. Every time you blew Yoongi off when he wanted to pet your ears or you ignored him holding out his hand for you to take, you pretended not to notice the sad smile he offered you after you rejected him.
He just felt sorry for you and he was indulging you. Once he got used to the new you, he'd be happy.
That's what you thought, what you believed.
It had been over a week since you began working on yourself and to your surprise, Yoongi called you to the living room expressing he had a surprise. When you wandered into the living room, you found him building a vanity for you -- it was white with a big mirror and pretty lights around it.
"How about you go pick a place for this, yeah?" Yoongi grinned, messing with a couple of screws.
Before long it was in your bedroom, nestled beside your window which also allowed for lots of natural light to seep in.
"Do you like it?" He asked, placing his hand on your head.
"Y-Yeah," You ducked to get away from his touch, even though you desperately wanted more.
You missed the fleeting look he gave you as he wandered out of your bedroom with his head hung.
Once he was gone and your door was shut, you took a seat at the vanity on a little stool he had given you. Staring at yourself in the mirror, you heaved a sigh at how sad you looked. You wondered if Yoongi could notice it as well.
Yoongi wandered back into the living room and sat on the couch beside Jungkook, who immediately rested his head on his lap.
"What's the matter, Hyung?" Jungkook asked, smiling when Yoongi began to scratch his ears.
"_____ is acting strange," He sighed, missing the way Jungkook stiffened.
"What do you mean?"
"She's really withdrawn and she won't let me touch her much," Yoongi muttered before suddenly moving forward, making Jungkook whine. "I'm gonna make her an appointment with the doctor,"
"Hyung, she's probably fine don't overreact," Jungkook pouted, making Yoongi pause.
"You think I'm overreacting?" He whispers, carding his fingers through his pup's hair.
"She probably just needs some space, yeah?" Yoongi nodded, finally settling into the couch with a sigh.
When you woke up the next morning, you could hear Yoongi and Jungkook laughing from down the hall. You crept from your bedroom and found your way to Yoongi's bedroom -- a place you hadn't yet ventured into. It didn't feel right to enter his space like that.
Inside, Jungkook was rolling around on the plush, white duvet on Yoongi's bed while he other laughed. Yoongi's grin was beaming, eyes bright as he playfully tugged the hybrid's ear.
He's mine, not yours.
Jungkook's words rang through your head, reminding you that you weren't truly part of this family. Feeling tears prick at your eyes, you scurried back to your bedroom and climbed back into bed to hide from your feelings.
You were awoken again, having fallen back asleep, to soft knocks before Yoongi poked his head inside.
"Hey pumpkin, I made some lunch, you hungry?" He asked softly, not fully entering the room.
"Lunch?" It was lunch time?
"Yeah, I didn't want to wake you for breakfast since you were still sleeping," He explained.
Yeah right, he probably just didn't want you there.
"I-I'm not hungry," You replied, hurt by your own ugly thoughts. This wasn't Yoongi's fault -- it was yours. You couldn't be mad at the kind man who looked after you, who took you in.
"Are you feeling alright?" He asked, finally meandering fully into your room. Your back was to him but you could hear his bare feet on the wood floor as he approached.
"I'm okay," You whispered, rolling onto your back to look up at him.
He was frowning, gazing almost suspiciously down at you. You nearly jumped when his hand found your forehead. He sighed before moving it to cup your cheek.
"You don't have a fever. Do you feel nauseous?"
"I-I...just don't have an appetite..." You whispered, grabbing his wrist to pull his hand away from you. It was almost impossible to muster the courage to do that -- you just wanted to nuzzle into his touch so badly.
"Alright, if you say so," You mentally cringed as you realized he didn't believe you.
You weren't exactly lying, you didn't have an appetite but you also mostly just didn't want to go out there with them. You'd be faced with Jungkook's glare and having to watch them be close as you could only watch from the outside -- never able to get in like you wished to.
He shut the door behind him, leaving you still curled up in bed all alone. He stormed into the kitchen, where Jungkook was.
"I'm calling the doctor," Yoongi said, leaving no room for argument as he walked into the kitchen.
"But--"
"I'm not overreacting, something's wrong. Maybe she's depressed or something, I'm worried," Yoongi huffed, ignoring Jungkook's arguments as he picked up his cell and made the call to Jungkook's doctor, figuring they could use the same one.
You had been to the doctor many times -- during the winter, you frequently got colds and Namjoon would rush you to the doctor at the first sight of a sniffle.
You sat in the waiting room, swinging your feet mindlessly while Jungkook chatted eagerly with Yoongi. You weren't sure what about, you chose to ignore them for the most part.
"_______?" A nurse called out, smiling when Yoongi stood immediately.
"Stay here, Kook. We'll be back in a minute," The pup nodded but the budding smile vanished when Yoongi took your hand. You attempted to pull your hand away but he held on tight until you two entered the examination room.
You both sat in an uncomfortable silence after getting your weight, height, and blood pressure measured by the nurse. She told you that the doctor would be in soon.
"Hello," A handsome man with pretty lips walked in several minutes later, dressed in a white coat. "I'm Kim Seokjin, your doctor, and I understand I have a little bunny who needs to see me,"
You couldn't help but smile at his charismatic attitude. Yoongi patted your head softly but you were too mesmerized by the doctor to react.
"Hi Dr. Kim," Yoongi greeted as the taller man sat down -- elegantly you might add.
"What seems to be the problem with the bun today?" He asked with a pretty smile.
"Well, when I first got her she was really open and really happy but the past week and a half, she's become completely withdrawn," Yoongi explained, and as he continued you sunk deeper against the examination table where you laid.
"I see, and you're worried about the cause of the behavioral change?" Yoongi nodded as the Doctor completed his thoughts. Seokjin stood up, putting his stethoscope to his ears and smiled at you. "I'm going to need you to sit up so I can listen to your heart and your breathing,"
You did as you were asked and with a small warning of the cold metal as he put his hand up the back of your shirt, he pressed it against your bare back. You followed all his instructions, breathing in and out and coughing a couple times. As he listened to your heart, you realized you were enjoying this contact. You really were becoming starved for attention at that point.
"Are you feeling alright, bun?" He asked, finally pulling the stethoscope from his ears and pulling out a little pen light.
"Yes," You answered simply, wanting to keep your answers short in fear you might let something slip.
He checked inside your ears, checked your pupils, and checked your throat. After finding no abnormalities, he sat back down and opened a manila folder he had brought in.
"Well, she seems to be in good health, Mr. Min," Seokjin hummed, looking over the papers. "It says here that you own another hybrid,"
"Uh yes, Jungkook -- he's a dog hybrid," Yoongi explained.
"Have you ever owned a rabbit hybrid before?" The doctor looked up at Yoongi now, who squirmed under the intense stare.
"N-No, she's my first one,"
"Well, bunnies are one of the more...attached hybrids," Seokjin explained, smiling almost fondly over at you.
'Attached is just another word for needy,' you thought.
"They are very loving and absolutely thrive under attention," The doctor continued. "It could be that she feels she's not getting enough attention at home because she has to share you with another hybrid,"
"I-I've been making sure she gets as much of my attention I can give her," Yoongi defended himself. "Kook knows that I need to give her special attention because she's still adjusting to a new home and environment,"
"I see, you haven't had her long?" Seokjin asked, scribbling something down in the folder.
"No...not too long but I thought I was doing good..." Your heart ached at how disappointed Yoongi sounded in himself.
"Is is possible she misses her previous home and owner?"
"I...I guess it's possible, she didn't really want to leave him," Seokjin nodded, writing something down on the papers.
"I suggest maybe having a little personal chat with the two hybrids and see if you can figure out what she's thinking," Yoongi nodded at the advice and stood up, finally signalling for you to get up as well.
"Thank you, Doctor," Yoongi muttered, taking your hand again except this time you didn't fight it.
"No problem," The doctor ruffled your hair and smiled. "There's some lollipops by the desk, you can grab a couple for you and Jungkook, okay?" You nodded.
You were sure to grab two flavors -- watermelon and strawberry. You kept the watermelon to yourself -- it was your favorite flavor. You were also pleasantly surprised that Jungkook took the one your offered him -- thought he didn't extend a thank you at all. You didn't really mind in the end.
You wanted to hide away in your room once you got home but Yoongi practically begged for you to eat something. At the mention of food, you realized you were actually quite hungry. So you sat down and silently ate to yourself, choosing to block out the two men in the room.
"Before you go to sleep," Yoongi caught you by the wrist before you were able to escape after finishing your salad. "Can we have a talk? All of us?"
"I-I...I'm really tired," You whimpered, reaching up to tug at your own ear out of anxiety. "Can't I just go to sleep?"
"I guess you'd be worn out from the doctors, huh?" Yoongi sighed, slowly releasing you.
You stood there for a moment, taking in how sad he looked in front of you. He seemed to have expected you to leave by now because he began to eat once again -- much slower than he had. Jungkook barely paid you any mind, not even looking up from his burger.
He looked happy. Why shouldn't he? He had an owner who adored him and he had a true family. You wished you could feel even an ounce of that but instead you were cursed with the needy, clingy nature of your hybrid. It had cost you a family before and you certainly didn't want it to cost you another one.
Quiet as you could, you scurried out of the kitchen and to your bedroom. You felt safe in there -- with your stuffed animals on your bed and the dim lights from your new vanity casting a gentle glow.
Guilt ate away at you as you thought back to how sad Yoongi had begun to look as the days passed. Did your change in behavior really hurt him or was it pure worry because he didn't want to be known as someone who mistreated their hybrid?
He treated you so nicely, he really did. He bought you so much nice stuff and even built a vanity for you. He told you he even ordered you a new dresser and a rug so you wouldn't be stuck with the hardwood floors you currently had.
He got you the nicest, softest pink sheets and let you have as many pillows as you wanted.
Briefly, you thought back to the way he checked for your fever and that night he gave you a little forehead kiss. You didn't realize you were smiling at the thought and once you did, you shook your head to banish it from your head.
Resolutely, you climbed into your cozy bed with a sigh. It felt like there was a lead weight in your chest.
That night, as you laid in bed you felt like everything finally caught up to you. Every emotion, every negative thought finally poured out of you and instead of sleeping, you cried.
You cried over the fact Namjoon didn't want you. You cried over the fact Jungkook didn't like you. You cried because you didn't want to burden Yoongi and because you feared losing your home again.
You didn't mean to be loud, but as you sputtered and sobbed, you failed to realize the sad puppy-eyes peeking in from the hallway after being awoken by your cries.
Once the door was shut, you couldn't see his head hung and his tail limp behind him as he stood outside.
A Very Feudal Christmas
OMG OMG OMG I MADE IT!
Ok, dear anon, I am so sorry for the delay in your gift. I’ll admit I had a bit of trouble with the prompt you gave me. But I do hope you enjoy this secret Santa gift of mine!
Category: Romance, fluff, Christmas theme
The snow touched one of InuYasha's triangular shaped dog ears and he flicked it in response. Yellow eyes looked up at the dark sky and the falling snow. He smiled as he thought about whatever this “Christmas” surprise was Kagome had in store for all of them. She had taken it upon herself to force them all to take a few days off from shard hunting to celebrate this holiday from her time.
InuYasha still didn't understand the strange custom. Kagome had forced him to cut down a tree with Tetsusaiga and she had taken it inside Kaede's little hut. There, she had fashioned little baubles and decorations from plants, berries, fabric and other found items available to her. On the very top she placed a five point star she had managed to make from twigs and twine. Once the star was placed, she stood back and admired her work.
“Isn't it beautiful, InuYasha?” she asked him.
“Keh. I don't get it, Kagome. What's the point of all this damn stuff?”
Sighing, Kagome shook her head and tried to explain it again. “It's an old custom from the west. It brightens up the house during the winter and it provides a place to put all the presents under.”
Shippo leapt up onto Kagome's shoulder and looked at her excitedly. “Presents?”
Kagome giggled and ruffled the kit's hair. “Yes, Shippo, presents. We all get eachother a present, or sometimes we just choose one person to give something to randomly so evertyone still gets a gift but no one has to spend too much money to buy everyone gifts. That's called a secret Santa.”
“Santa?” Shippo looked puzzled at the word as he spoke it.
“Santa is a magical man who's supposed to live up at the north pole with all of his helpers who make all of his toys for all of the children in the world. Then, on Christmas Eve, he loads up his sleigh with all the toys, hooks up his eight flying reindeer and delivers them to all the children.”
“In one day?” Shippo asked, wonderously.
“Yep. He's magic, remember?”
“Wooooow...” he said as he looked on, a sparkle in his big eyes.
“Keh. Sounds like a load of crap to me,” InuYasha grumbled as he slumped down on the floor.
“Kagome turned to him and glared. “You live in a world with demons and magical swords. You can't believe a man can use some kind of magic to do something wondrous like bring joy to children?”
InuYasha flushed at her scolding. “I... I guess...” he mumbled.
Miroku stepped forward and pulled Kagome's attention from the grumpy hanyou. “Tell us more about this “secret Santa” custom, Kagome.”
Smiling, Kagome clapped her hands together and happily replied, “Well, we all write our names and a few ideas for things we would want or need on a piece of paper and then fold them so we don't know who's is who's. Then we place them all in a container and swish them around to mix them up and we all draw a name one at a time. We don't tell who we got and then on Christmas morning we reveal who our secret giftee is.”
“Ohhhhhh Kagome can we do it? Please, Kagome, pleeeeeeeease?” Shippo begged, jumping up and down excitedly. Kagome laughed boisterously and nodded her head at the happy fox child. She bent over her giant yellow backpack and pulled out a notebook and pencils. Carefully, she ripped six pieces of equally sized paper and handed one each to Kaede, Sango, Miroku, Shippo and InuYasha, keeping one for herself.
Over the next several minutes the sounds of scratching, erasing, and heavy sighs were heard throughout the tiny hut as each of them thought about what to put on their slip of paper. Finally, they each had something written and folded their papers. Kagome grabbed a small bowl and had each of them place their paper in it. She used her hand to swirl them around for a few seconds before she leaned down in front of Shippo and said, “You pick first, Shippo.”
Positively beaming, Shippo reached his tiny hand in the bowl and drew a name. He opened his paper and smiled gleefully. Kagome moved on to Sango, then Miroku, Kaede, and InuYasha, until there was only one paper left that she took for herself. She opened it to discover that she had drawn InuYasha's name. He had only written one thing below his name, 'Acceptance'. Eyes brimming with tears, Kagome tucked the slip of paper into her jacket pocket and quickly wiped them away before anyone could notice.
The next few days went by with everyone talking in hushed tones and quickly clamming up when someone came into view. Shippo had basically disappeared, but they knew he'd be back by Christmas morning. InuYasha was the strangest of them all. He kept to himself even more than normal, not even speaking to Kagome. She had hoped he would ask her advice on his gift, but she knew he was probably trying to figure it out on his own. As for Kagome, she had a big plan for InuYasha. Unfortunately, it wasn't something he could unwrap in the traditional sense, but she looked forward to giving it to him anyway.
Kagome awoke Christmas morning to a very excited Shippo jumping up and down on her chest and yelling, “Kagome! Kagome, wake up! It's time for Santa!” Smiling, she rubbed her eyes and smiled at the young boy.
“Alright, Shippo, I'm up. Go tell the others I'll make some breakfast with Kaede and then we can open presents, ok?” Shippo happily bounded away to do as she had asked of him. As she sat up, Kagome stretched out her arms above her head and looked around the small hut. Kaede was already up, with a fire started in her fire pit. She had put on some rice and as a special treat had gathered a few eggs from the locals to make for the group for this special day. Kagome also had a special surprise for everyone stashed away in her backpack and she couldn't wait to see all their faces when she let them try it.
Rising from her pallet on the floor, she walked over to Kaede and looked down at the small pot of rice she was stiring. “That looks so good, Kaede. I'm starving!”
“Aye, child. We best get these eggs ready before InuYasha busts down my hut and Shippo loses all his patience and tears into his own gift before it's time.” Kagome giggled as she grabbed another pan to make the eggs in.
She had just cracked the last egg into the pan when Miroku, Sango and Shippo all joined them. Kagome frowned and looked down at Shippo. “Where's InuYasha?” she asked.
“I dunno, Kagome. I looked everywhere. Even in the sacred tree. I couldn't find him anywhere.”
Kagome's face furrowed into a frown. It wasn't like him to disappear without telling them, except in the case of... But no. Surely he wouldn't do that to her on Christmas when he knew how much it meant to her? She pulled in a deep breath to keep herself calm and to stave off the tears that threatened to fall.
The group ate in mostly silence, sensing Kagome's tension. Even Shippo's cheery mood had dampened somewhat. But then, something magical happened. Shippo's ear flicked, his nose twitched and he shot up from his spot on the floor and ran off out of the hut in the direction of the forest.
Kagome quickly tried to go after him, but the young kit was too fast for her. “Shippo!” she called, but he was already out of sight beyond the treeline. Sighing, she returned to her own spot on the floor and shoved the food in her mouth with obvious annoyance. It was just as she had finished her last bite of egg that Shippo came bounding back in the hut, followed by InuYasha.
Kagome breathed a huge sigh of relief, along with the rest of the group. But she glared up at him anyway. “Where were you, InuYasha?”
Face flushed, he responded, “I was... gettin' my gift. Sorry I'm late...” he said, sheepishly. Kagome smiled up at him and grabbed the bowl of food she had saved for him and handed it to him as he sat down next to her on the floor. He began shoveling in his mouth in pure InuYasha fashion and she couldn't help but giggle. He looked over at her, his cheeks puffed up from all the food and said, “Wha?” through his mouthful.
She simply shook her head and said, “Nothing, InuYasha. I'm just glad you're here is all.” She then stood and walked over to her backpack and rummaged through it until she found her special surprise for everyone. Everyone looked at her curiously as she pulled out little paper packets and a few long thin bars with the word 'Hershey's' in big letters on the wrapping. “Shippo, could you go get a small bucket of milk from Ichiro, please? He knows you're coming.”
“Sure, Kagome,” he said as he happily ran off to complete his task. He returned moments later with his prize and Kagome smiled as she took it from him and poured it into the kettle she had placed over the fire. Miroku and Sango watched her with much curiosity as she stirred the fresh milk. Once it was warmed, she opened up the paper packets and poured the contents of them into the milk, turning it a medium shade of brown. Shippo's eyes widened. “What kind of magic are you using, Kagome?” he asked her.
Kagome chuckled and shook her head at the kitsune. “Not magic, Shippo. Just something from my time. You'll see when it's all done. You'll like it, I promise!”
She continued stirring the now brown milk until it was fairly well steaming. It was then that she opened up the bars and broke the contents of them up into the milk, stirring them in as well. As she stirred, the milk turned an even darker shade of brown, and Kagome's eyes gleamed. Finally, she poured the concoction into six mugs and went back to her bag in search of one more thing. She pulled out a small bag of small, white fluffy looking things and placed several on each drink before handing a cup to each of them in turn. They each looked at the drink and sniffed it carefully. InuYasha studied it most of all, staring at it with wide eyes and flicking ears.
“It's called hot chocolate with marshmallows. It's something we drink in cold weather in my time. It's really good, I promise. Try it,” Kagome prompted.
Slowly, each of them took a small sip. Shippo's eyes grew twice their normal size and he exclaimed, “Kagome, this is amazing!”
Miroku nodded in agreement, “Indeed, this is very good, Kagome.”
Sango simply stated, “This is common in your time? It seems so special...” Kaede agreed.
“It's easier to make in my time. We don't have to milk cows to get milk, we just buy it at the store. And we have this thing called a microwave that heats food up for us much faster than traditional cooking,” she stated.
“Woooooooow, Kagome. Your time must be so fun!” Shippo exclaimed.
Laughing, Kagome said, “Sometimes, yea. But honestly I'd rather be here, with you guys.” She looked around them all to the tree in the corner of the room. “Now, are we all ready to open our gifts?”
Shippo shot up and said, “Me first, me first!” As he ran over and grabbed his package and handed it to Kaede. “Merry Christmas, Lady Kaede.”
Smiling, Kaede untied the twine holding the box together and opened the gift she had been given. Inside the box was a new handmade basket decorated with flowers and ribbon. It had 3 separate compartments. “Oh Shippo, this is so beautiful,” Kaede exclaimed.
Beaming, Shippo said proudly, “I made it! It's for all your herb collecting. So you don't have to mix everything up or carry different baskets.”
“Thank you, child. I will cherish it,” Kaede said as she patted the boy's head. “Now, I believe it's my turn, then?” She said as she stood and made her way over to the tree and retrieved her own gift, handing the package to Shippo with a large smile on her face. “Merry Christmas, dear.” Shippo could hardly contain his excitement as he tore open the box. He peered inside and with careful hands pulled the item out and held it up for everyone to see. Kaede spoke softly, “It's a charmed spinning top. Once you use it, it won't stop spinning until you speak the magic word.”
“Oh Lady Kaede, thank you so much! This is the best thing ever!” Shippo said as he ran and gave her a huge bear hug.
Chuckling, Kaede patted his back and said, “Of course, child. Yer very welcome.”
Miroku stood and silently walked over to the tree and picked up a small box. He turned, sighed deeply, and handed it to Sango. “Merry Christmas, Sango,” he stated, obviously nervous.
Sango looked into the violet eyes of the monk and with shaking hands opened the gift he had presented her. The box contained a piece of forearm armor, matching her current armor, with one small difference. This piece contained a hidden blade with the words 'My Dearest' inscribed on the blade. “Now be careful, Sango. The blade is dipped in a permanent poison that I'm told works on humans and most lower level demons alike. Supposedly it won't ever need replenished,” Miroku said as he stared at the young taijiya.
“Oh, Miroku, it's the most beautiful thing I've ever received. Thank you so much,” she said as her face turned a hefty shade of pure pink. She carefully set her gift down next to her hiraikotsu and walked over to the tree to retrieve her own gift. She stood in front of Miroku and handed him her present, hands trembling.
Miroku looked at her with wide eyes and wordlessly opened the gift. He looked inside the box with wonder as he pulled out a bundle of fabric and let it fall open. It was a small, formal kimono. One obviously meant for a child. Shyly, Sango spoke, “It's for your first child. For, you know, after we defeat Naraku...” Her words trailed off as he looked at her with his eyes positively sparkling.
“Sango, this is the most precious thing you could've given me. Thank you so much.” With those words he wrapped her up in his arms and gave her a tight embrace, making the slayer blush even deeper. She returned his affections, however.
With that, the whole group turned to Kagome. It was time for her gift to InuYasha. Smiling, she stood and walked over to him, taking his hand and leading him into the center of the group. They circled the confused hanyou and each of them held out their hand and touched his arm or shoulder. Kagome stood in front of him and spoke softly, “InuYasha, here, in this family, you are always accepted.” She turned to Shippo.
“You're like a the most annoying big brother in the world, but of course I accept you. I don't know what I'd do without you and Kagome around.” Shippo turned and looked at Miroku.
“InuYasha, you're brash and harsh with your words, but you have the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known, save Kagome. You fight for what's right and protect the innocent. Anyone would be proud to call you Ani*. As proud as I am.” He turned to a smiling Sango.
“You're brave, cunning, quick witted and god awful stubborn. Your heart is always in the right place, even if your words don't express it well. I'm proud to fight beside you and call you Kazoku*.” She turned to Kaede.
“InuYasha, I thought for a very long time that ye were the reason my older sister was slain. Since learning the truth and gettin' ta know ya, I've learned that yer much more than meets the eye. Yer smart, fiercely protective, and ye have one of the biggest hearts of any man this old woman has ever known. Ye are like the Mago* I never had.”
Finally, it was Kagome's turn to speak. “InuYasha, we all love you. Here in this family you will always have a place. You will always be accepted, no matter what happens. Always know that, ok?”
InuYasha stood speechless and looked at each one of them in turn. No one had ever displayed this much affection for him in his entire life. He was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do with himself. “K-Kagome...” he said, softly.
She smiled at him and took his hand. “I know,” she said as she led him outside and away from the group to the one place she wanted to take him, the sacred tree. There, he stood trembling in front of her. She gently touched his cheek and smiled at him. “Do you understand now?” She asked him. He simply nodded.
After a few moments to compose himself, InuYasha reached into his haori and pulled out a very small, modern looking, beautiful, glittery forest green box and handed it to her. “It's not much... your mom helped me with it...”
Kagome looked up at him in shock. “That's where you've been? At my house?” He nodded once. “Oh, InuYasha...” she said, as she held the box tenderly. She pulled off the lid to the box and peered inside. It held a silver heart shaped locket on a long silver chain to match. She pulled the necklace from the box and opened it up. On one side was a tiny picture of InuYasha, looking as grumpy as ever and on the other was an engraving. It read, 'You have my heart in full'. Kagome's eyes brimmed with tears as she read the inscription. “InuYasha...”
“Ah, damnit wench, ya weren't s'posed to cry!” He said as he took her shoudlers in his clawed hands.
She looked up into his amber eyes and gave him the brightest smile he'd ever seen from her. “No, InuYasha, I'm crying because I'm so happy.”
“Oh...” he said as he looked down, embarrassed.
“You know, there is another Christmas tradition I wanted to show you...” Kagome said, quietly.
InuYasha looked back into her chocolate brown eyes. “Oh yea?”
“Look up, InuYasha.” His head swiveled back and looked above his head. There, hanging on a red ribbon from one of the lowest branches on the tree, was a plant he didn't recognize. It was green with tiny white and red berries.
“It's called mistletoe. When two people are under it at the same time they're supposed to kiss.” Kagome said, voice shaky, but sounding confident.
InuYasha looked back down into her entrancing eyes. He hesitated only for a moment before taking her face into both of his clawed hands and bent down to capture her soft, pink lips with his own. She gasped at the intensity of the kiss. Every word unspoken, every feeling not known, poured into her very soul. In that moment, she was sure he loved her. She was sure she was his first choice. She was sure she wanted to be with him, forever. Her nerves tingled as the kiss came to an end and she shook in his arms as he barely pulled away.
“Merry Christmas, Kagome.”
She smiled against his lips. “Merry Christmas, InuYasha.”
Dog Training Fundamentals — 5 Key Dog Behaviors Factors That Affect Training
Whether you already have experience of dog ownership, are a new dog owner or are about to be a dog owner, then training your dog is one of the most important aspects you need to consider. Likewise if you currently have a dog with behavior problems, then dog training is essential.
However, knowing you need to train your dog and actually training your dog are two entirely different things. Just where do you start?
To successfully train your dog, you need to consider and understand some key facets of dog behavior. Knowing and understanding these 5 facets will greatly improve your dog training.
1. The origins of dogs. Dogs are in essence descended from modern day wolves. While domestication has dampened or eliminated many traits, some key natural instincts still remain. Like wolves, dogs are pack animals. What does this mean?
Well, there are several traits that derive from being a pack animal. The important ones when it comes to training are dogs are naturally sociable, they are used to routine and they are used to a social structure (i.e. the famed alpha male).
As sociable animals dogs thrive on the interaction with other dogs. A dog does not consider you as a human but rather a funny looking dog. Therefore, dogs thrive on the interaction with you. Just like a wild wolf, rejected by the pack, if you starve a dog of this interaction, they will become unhappy and very agitated.
When it comes to training, you can use this to reward or punish your dog. Interacting with your dog (e.g. patting, encouraging/excited talk, etc.) can be as much of a reward as treats of food. Similarly, ignoring your dog (e.g. turning your back, stern talk, putting them in another room, etc.) can be a harsh punishment for a dog. Its definitely better than smacking them.
As with all animals (including humans), dogs thrive on routine. If they know what and when they are likely to be doing certain things, then they are relaxed and comfortable. They know what to expect and are not confused by ever changing circumstances.
Training should also stick to a routine. Decide when the best time of the day is best for you to train your dog and stick by that time as rigidly as possible. Your dog will soon get into a routine of expecting to be trained at say 3pm every day and will be prepared for when training time comes. If your dog is ready and expecting to be trained, then it goes without saying that they will actually train better.
Within a pack there is always the alpha male. The dog that leads the pack, protects the pack and ultimately ensures the pack is fed and survives. As mentioned, a dog sees you as a funny looking dog and not a human. To be a good dog owner you absolutely need to be the alpha male. How many nature programs have you seen where the alpha male is being challenged by one of the other would be alpha males? Likewise, your dog will be challenging you to be the alpha male — this is a natural instinct for them.
You must establish yourself as the alpha male from the beginning. Providing food, interaction, punishing bad behaviour, body and vocal language all go towards asserting yourself as the alpha male. If your dog does not consider you as the alpha male, then they will not listen or act on your training instructions.
2. A dog’s memory. We all know that goldfish have short memories. However, you may be surprised to know that dogs also have short retention memories. If you could tell your dog something, it is likely that by the next day or a few hours later, they will have forgotten. On the other had (or paw) dogs do have incredibly good associated memory. This basically means that if your dog can associated something with what you tell it then it will likely remember what you told it for years to come.
For example if you told your dog (assuming you could speak doggy language) that the chocolate biscuits were in the cupboard your dog would probably forget this within a few hours. However, if you showed your dog where the chocolate biscuits were, repeating the words ‘chocolate biscuits’, every time you said ‘chocolate biscuits’ it would probably go straight to the cupboard. It may also search the cupboard every few hours for the rest of its life looking for the chocolate biscuits but that’s not the point.
Therefore, when training your dog you need to associate the training topic with something. For example: if you are teaching your dog to sit. If you associate the word ‘sit’ by getting your dog to physically sit and then giving them a reward. Repeat this a few times and soon your dog will associate your command ‘sit’ with it physically sitting and then getting a reward. The difficult bit is disassociating the reward — ask yourself why almost every dog will naturally sit when you have food in your hand?
3. Doggy language. Despite comments above, we cannot speak doggy language and dogs cannot speak our language. This is important when it comes to training. You have to choose words for commands that both you and your dog will remember. Be careful not to choose very common words or else your dog will be easily confused when this word keeps appearing within the middle of a sentence. A common word often used in training dogs is ‘come’. For this example, it may be better to use a slang version or combine ‘come here’ into a single short word.
The important thing is that when you decide on a word for a command to stick with it and be consistent, otherwise your dog will become confused.
I know it can be difficult, especially if you come home to your new TV pulled off the cabinet, to always use pre-selected words when talking to your dog. Your dog does not speak human language and will only know what those few words you have trained it with are (and the tone you have used). So if you start using other words or different tones your dog will not understand.
For example: imagine someone speaking to you in a foreign language asking for directions to the city hall. You can’t understand a word they are saying yet they get more and more frustrated, talking in a louder and quicker language. Is it your fault you can’t understand them? Why are they getting angrier when you have no idea what they are saying? What is their problem? What will I do? Similarly, if you haven’t trained your dog to understand what ‘sit’ is and you start shouting ‘sit’, ‘down on back legs’, ‘down’, etc is it your dog’s fault it is looking at you confused and increasingly scared.
4. Puppy behaviour. Just like babies, puppies do not know how the world works or how they are supposed to behave within that world. They need to be taught and learn what is good, bad, right or wrong.
A healthy and happy puppy will be a bundle of energy, desperate to explore as much as they can as quickly as they can. Dogs do not have good eyes that can see things or hands that can feel the intricacies of objects. Instead they have noses that can smell things and mouths that can chew objects.
While this can come through training and general maturing, the importance of this is that you must be patient and understand where your dog is coming from and why it does what it does.
5. Structure and enjoyment. While I have in a round about way touched on these two above, no dog training information would be complete without mentioning these two aspects on their own.
However you decide to train your dog, as with routine, you must have a structure to your training. If you have never trained a dog before, how do you know when your dog can start learning to sit, stay, etc and when it can run down to the local shop and pick the paper up for you?
You need to know what it is you actually want to train your dog to ultimately be able to do and what steps you need to take to get to that point. Personnel dog trainers, dog training classes and dog training guides can all do this. Personally, I prefer to train my own dogs and believe that in the end you develop a much stronger bond with your dog. Also, your dog is more obedient to you rather than the trainer. However, at the very least, and particularly if you have never trained a dog before, I would recommend purchasing a dog training guide.
The small amount of money for a dog training guide, compared to the time you would waste searching for free online tips that will be a mix match of training and will not provide the structure, is just not worth it. More than that, the time saved in training and the end result of a properly trained dog for the rest of its life (around 15 years) is worth many times more than the cost of even the most basic training guide.
If you, and more importantly your dog, do not enjoy training then you will never properly train your dog. Training will take longer and be much harder. When you start training your dog remember they are most likely to be a puppy and at that age all they want to do is run and explore their new world. Be flexible with the time you plan to spend training. Try and keep training short but if your dog appears to be really enjoying it then be prepared to train for longer. Likewise if your dog will just not focus, then maybe leave it for a bit before going back to it. With a routine and structure to your training, your dog will soon learn that when it comes to training they need to focus for a short length of time and will be better able to do so.
I hope the above has been helpful in your desire to train your dog. By knowing why and how your dog does what it does, you should be able to understand it’s behaviour much better. By using this understanding you can better bond with your dog and train your dog. A good training routine and structure as well as plenty of patience and eventually you will have a well trained dog. Always always always make sure training is enjoyable for both you and especially your dog.
The Broken Are More Evolved
Part I - Rejoice
After Kevin and the alters’ death, Casey thinks about what could have been, what may be, and what the Beast had said to her way back when he decided not to kill her. And she meets a little dog who changes her life forever.
Word count: 1174 // Warnings: mentions of ptsd, dead animal, (if you could watch Split and Glass then this should be fine) // Genre: angst/adventure?
“Rejoice! For the broken are more evolved.”
That’s what the Beast had said to Casey. He had said she was broken. He had said she was strong.
But now the Beast was dead. So was Dennis. So was Barry. So was Patricia and Hedwig and all the other alters. So was Kevin.
She hadn’t known Kevin for very long, but she knew that he was a person who deserved a chance at life. Just when he had found the courage within himself to rejoin the world despite his fear, his chance at life was taken away from him.
Casey thought his alters deserved a chance at life too. She knew most of them didn’t have truly evil intent - they had only been trying to keep Kevin safe, though their methods may have been flawed. She thought that one day, maybe, they would be able to use all their intelligence and strength and protective instincts to help other people. One day when Kevin wouldn’t need them anymore. When Kevin himself would become the strongest version of himself.
If she were truly so broken and “more evolved” like the beast claimed she was, Casey wondered what made her a superhero.
Just as Glass’ mind became strong to make up for his broken body and Kevin’s body became strong as the Beast because his mind was shattered, what was different about her? Her body was full of scars but her mind too, was broken. She constantly felt both strong and weak. Her PTSD made daily life painful, but the experiences that gave her the disorder also forced her to become courageous, resourceful and quick of mind.
But those things weren’t extraordinary. At least, she hadn’t thought so before she met Casper.
The morning after Kevin and the others were killed, she awoke from what could hardly be called sleep to go out for a run, as she usually did. That’s when she saw him. Casper. There, on the doorstep right outside her home.
The small lab’s nearly white golden fur was covered in grime and blood. She knelt down to inspect the poor thing. It definitely wasn’t breathing. It had a nasty wound in its side, where it had probably lost a significant amount of blood. She felt a slight pang of sorrow for the animal through the dense fog of numbness that surrounded and filled her heart.
Gently, she scooped up the small body and headed towards the woods behind her apartment to bury it. The dog’s body was cold. Colder than a dead body probably would be normally, because of the dew that had settled on it the night before.
At least, it was cold. As Casey made her way through the trees, she thought the small, limp body in her hands didn’t seem quite so icy anymore, even despite the chill of the morning air.
Eventually, she found a tall, broad tree that looked to be strong enough to watch over this little creature’s body. She knelt down at the base of the tree and carefully laid the small body on a bed of leaves before she began to dig a hole in the dirt with her hands.
When the hole was finished, she picked the body up again to lay it to rest. But she paused before laying him in the hole. She was captivated by him. For one thing, he hadn’t returned to being as cold as ice, even though he hadn’t been exposed to her body heat for several minutes. For another, she was just then realizing just how young this dog had been.
He was so small, he couldn’t have been over three months old. Beneath the blood and dirt that stained his coat, he seemed like he had been rather healthy. His body was sturdy and not skin and bones like most stray dogs. He could have grown up to be strong.
She thought about him being a companion to a child or a lonely soul. She thought about him chasing squirrels and how the summer sun would shine golden in his fur.
He had been full of potential, before some force decided to cut him off from the world before it was his time.
She wiped her tears and lowered him into the small grave. As she began to cover him back up with dirt however, she thought she heard a soft, high-pitched sound coming from within the hole. She tried to pay it no mind and continue about her task but then, dirt shifted and shuttered and slid off the white fur.
Casey gasped. It’s true she hadn’t slept very well that past night, but she didn’t think there was any way she was sleep deprived enough to be hallucinating this.
As she lifted the dog out of the dirt and his white coat was once again revealed, so was the truth about herself revealed to her in that moment. As his eyelids fluttered open and he looked up at her with exhausted but bright eyes, so she was suddenly able to see a part of reality that had been hidden from her.
His wound was healed. He was breathing. He was alive.
All of a sudden, this most impossible, incomprehensible thing somehow made sense. Casey was a survivor. She was resilient. She was strong. So strong that her strength overflowed from her and into others. When she had touched Kevin and brought him back into the light, that wasn’t because he was touch starved. That had been all her. Her touch could heal and strengthen. Her touch could bring things back from the dead.
The longer she held the dog, the less tired and weak he looked. Soon, he could stand and as she kept petting him, he was eventually strong enough to jump up on her and lick her face, as if he hadn’t been dead less than an hour earlier.
She stayed there in the woods with him for a while, still processing everything that was coming to light. She knew what this meant, though she didn’t want to admit it to herself. She knew what she wanted to do, but the thought still sounded insane to her. She questioned if she would really be capable of doing it.
“It wouldn’t hurt to try, right Casper?” she said softly to the puppy pawing at her chest.
Casper, for his nearly ghost-white fur. Casper, like the little boy who lived after death.
He yipped happily and licked her chin in response.
When she stood and started back towards her home, Casper followed right at her heels without her even calling. It was like he could tell she was on a mission, and he wanted to do everything he could to help her. It was like he knew that no one in this world could stop her from doing what her mind was now set on accomplishing, so anyone who could potentially stand in her way might as well join her. It was like he knew…
“Good boy, Casper,” she said, “Let’s go bring Kevin back.”
| I hope you enjoyed it! Would you consider buying me a ko-fi? |
I know it can be difficult, especially if you come home to your new TV pulled off the cabinet, to always use pre-selected words when talking to your dog. Your dog does not speak human language and will only know what those few words you have trained it with are (and the tone you have used). So if you start using other words or different tones your dog will not understand.
For example: imagine someone speaking to you in a foreign language asking for directions to the city hall. You can't understand a word they are saying yet they get more and more frustrated, talking in a louder and quicker language. Is it your fault you can't understand them? Why are they getting angrier when you have no idea what they are saying? What is their problem? What will I do? Similarly, if you haven't trained your dog to understand what 'sit' is and you start shouting 'sit', 'down on back legs', 'down', etc is it your dog's fault it is looking at you confused and increasingly scared.
Puppy behaviour. Just like babies, puppies do not know how the world works or how they are supposed to behave within that world. They need to be taught and learn what is good, bad, right or wrong.
A healthy and happy puppy will be a bundle of energy, desperate to explore as much as they can as quickly as they can. Dogs do not have good eyes that can see things or hands that can feel the intricacies of objects. Instead they have noses that can smell things and mouths that can chew objects.
While this can come through training and general maturing, the importance of this is that you must be patient and understand where your dog is coming from and why it does what it does.
Structure and enjoyment. While I have in a round about way touched on these two above, no dog training information would be complete without mentioning these two aspects on their own.
However you decide to_ _train your dog, as with routine, you must have a structure to your training. If you have never trained a dog before, how do you know when your dog can start learning to sit, stay, etc and when it can run down to the local shop and pick the paper up for you?
You need to know what it is you actually want to train your dog to ultimately be able to do and what steps you need to take to get to that point. Personnel dog trainers, dog training classes and dog training guides can all do this. Personally, I prefer to train my own dogs and believe that in the end you develop a much stronger bond with your dog. Also, your dog is more obedient to you rather than the trainer. However, at the very least, and particularly if you have never trained a dog before, I would recommend purchasing a dog training guide.
The small amount of money for a dog training guide, compared to the time you would waste searching for free online tips that will be a mix match of training and will not provide the structure, is just not worth it. More than that, the time saved in training and the end result of a properly trained dog for the rest of its life (around 15 years) is worth many times more than the cost of even the most basic training guide.
If you, and more importantly your dog, do not enjoy training then you will never properly train your dog. Training will take longer and be much harder. When you start training your dog remember they are most likely to be a puppy and at that age all they want to do is run and explore their new world. Be flexible with the time you plan to spend training. Try and keep training short but if your dog appears to be really enjoying it then be prepared to train for longer. Likewise if your dog will just not focus, then maybe leave it for a bit before going back to it. With a routine and structure to your training, your dog will soon learn that when it comes to training they need to focus for a short length of time and will be better able to do so.
I hope the above has been helpful in your desire to train your dog. By knowing why and how your dog does what it does, you should be able to understand it's behavior much better. By using this understanding you can better bond with your dog and train your dog. A good training routine and structure as well as plenty of patience and eventually you will have a well trained dog. Always always always make sure training is enjoyable for both you and especially your dog.
Dog Training Fundamentals - 5 Key Dog Behaviour Factors That Affect Training
Whether you already have experience of dog ownership, are a new dog owner or are about to be a dog owner, then training your dog is one of the most important aspects you need to consider. Likewise if you currently have a dog with behaviour problems, then dog training is essential.
However, knowing you need to train your dog and actually training your dog are two entirely different things. Just where do you start?
To successfully train your dog, you need to consider and understand some key facets of dog behaviour. Knowing and understanding these 5 facets will greatly improve your dog training.
1. The origins of dogs. Dogs are in essence descended from modern day wolves. While domestication has dampened or eliminated many traits, some key natural instincts still remain. Like wolves, dogs are pack animals. What does this mean?
Well, there are several traits that derive from being a pack animal. The important ones when it comes to training are dogs are naturally sociable, they are used to routine and they are used to a social structure (i.e. the famed alpha male).
As sociable animals dogs thrive on the interaction with other dogs. A dog does not consider you as a human but rather a funny looking dog. Therefore, dogs thrive on the interaction with you. Just like a wild wolf, rejected by the pack, if you starve a dog of this interaction, they will become unhappy and very agitated.
When it comes to training, you can use this to reward or punish your dog. Interacting with your dog (e.g. patting, encouraging/excited talk, etc) can be as much of a reward as treats of food. Similarly, ignoring your dog (e.g. turning your back, stern talk, putting them in another room, etc) can be a harsh punishment for a dog. Its definitely better than smacking them.
As with all animals (including humans), dogs thrive on routine. If they know what and when they are likely to be doing certain things, then they are relaxed and comfortable. They know what to expect and are not confused by ever changing circumstances.
Training should also stick to a routine. Decide when the best time of the day is best for you to train your dog and stick by that time as rigidly as possible. Your dog will soon get into a routine of expecting to be trained at say 3pm every day and will be prepared for when training time comes. If your dog is ready and expecting to be trained, then it goes without saying that they will actually train better.
Within a pack there is always the alpha male. The dog that leads the pack, protects the pack and ultimately ensures the pack is fed and survives. As mentioned, a dog sees you as a funny looking dog and not a human. To be a good dog owner you absolutely need to be the alpha male. How many nature programs have you seen where the alpha male is being challenged by one of the other would be alpha males? Likewise, your dog will be challenging you to be the alpha male - this is a natural instinct for them.
You must establish yourself as the alpha male from the beginning. Providing food, interaction, punishing bad behaviour, body and vocal language all go towards asserting yourself as the alpha male. If your dog does not consider you as the alpha male, then they will not listen or act on your training instructions.
2. A dog's memory- We all know that goldfish have short memories. However, you may be surprised to know that dogs also have short retention memories. If you could tell your dog something, it is likely that by the next day or a few hours later, they will have forgotten. On the other had (or paw) dogs do have incredibly good associated memory. This basically means that if your dog can associated something with what you tell it then it will likely remember what you told it for years to come.
For example if you told your dog (assuming you could speak doggy language) that the chocolate biscuits were in the cupboard your dog would probably forget this within a few hours. However, if you showed your dog where the chocolate biscuits were, repeating the words 'chocolate biscuits', every time you said 'chocolate biscuits' it would probably go straight to the cupboard. It may also search the cupboard every few hours for the rest of its life looking for the chocolate biscuits but that's not the point.
Therefore, when training your dog you need to associate the training topic with something. For example: if you are teaching your dog to sit. If you associate the word 'sit' by getting your dog to physically sit and then giving them a reward. Repeat this a few times and soon your dog will associate your command 'sit' with it physically sitting and then getting a reward. The difficult bit is disassociating the reward - ask yourself why almost every dog will naturally sit when you have food in your hand?
3. Doggy language- Despite comments above, we cannot speak doggy language and dogs cannot speak our language. This is important when it comes to training. You have to choose words for commands that both you and your dog will remember. Be careful not to choose very common words or else your dog will be easily confused when this word keeps appearing within the middle of a sentence. A common word often used in training dogs is 'come'. For this example, it may be better to use a slang version or combine 'come here' into a single short word.
The important thing is that when you decide on a word for a command to stick with it and be consistent, otherwise your dog will become confused.
I know it can be difficult, especially if you come home to your new TV pulled off the cabinet, to always use pre-selected words when talking to your dog. Your dog does not speak human language and will only know what those few words you have trained it with are (and the tone you have used). Similarly, if you haven't trained your dog to understand what 'sit' is and you start shouting 'sit', 'down on back legs', 'down', etc is it your dog's fault it is looking at you confused and increasingly scared.
5. Structure and enjoyment. While I have in a round about way touched on these two above, no dog training information would be complete without mentioning these two aspects on their own.
You need to know what it is you actually want to train your dog to ultimately be able to do and what steps you need to take to get to that point. When you start training your dog remember they are most likely to be a puppy and at that age all they want to do is run and explore their new world. Be flexible with the time you plan to spend training. Try and keep training short but if your dog appears to be really enjoying it then be prepared to train for longer. Likewise if your dog will just not focus, then maybe leave it for a bit before going back to it. With a routine and structure to your training, your dog will soon learn that when it comes to training they need to focus for a short length of time and will be better able to do so.
I hope the above has been helpful in your desire to train your dog. By knowing why and how your dog does what it does, you should be able to understand it's behaviour much better. By using this understanding you can better bond with your dog and train your dog. A good training routine and structure as well as plenty of patience and eventually you will have a well trained dog.
