Liveblog: Wakfu Season 1 (episodes 1-9)

NOTE: I will be doing rewatch liveblogs of multiple episodes per post, because the focus of this blog isn't on the Wakfu cast, and I am not as well versed in their characterisations, so I won't even have much analysis to show you. Sorry ^^;;

Episode 1 - The Child from the Mist

I promise not to get sappy, but seeing season 1 after all these years does make me quite emotional. Ah, how the time flies.

Thank god I'm not a Yugo lore blog. I'd have to translate this too, as if I didn't go through enough psychological trauma. 💀

The sheer Bitch Olympics that would happen if Ruel opened a restaurant and you-know-which-three-men entered it, would cause at least 5 casualties.

I need this so bad. You have no idea how much I need this.

Episode 2 - Yugo the Eliatrope

I hang onto every mention of Bonta like a lifeline. I know Ruel might be lying, but imagining him having some marginal connection though like, Ruel's buddies knowing some people who know buddies of Jurgen-Crepins, is making me giddy.

Remember this tree. It will be important later.

Episode 3 - The Black Crow

Guys I think Ruel likes Bonta.

Anyway now I'm imagining the Bitch Olympics that would happen if he tried to haggle with Kerubim. Pangaea would explode.

I like to imagine this is the sort of life that would await Kerubim, had Lou not been smart enough to flee from the relationship.

Episode 4 - The Ugly Pageant

[linguistics major voice] It's just that y'know I really wonder what Ecaflip tongue is like and and. Personally, I think Joris is fluent in Ecaflip tongue, but can be a bit rusty at reading and writing it, while—— [I am forcefully taken off stage by the police]

Episode 5 - The Magnificent Five

One of my life dreams is writing a fic that's set during the Wakfu manga, or shortly after it, with Joris on the ship from the manga, or with the Wakfu cast being quests at his home.

The reason I want to do this, is that political discussions between Evangelyne and Joris would go so hard, whether they agree or disagree. They're both the sort of person who can masterfully turn every innocuous topic to Ogrest's Chaos/Monarchy/Climate Change/War. That, and I am a big believer in Evanglelyne&Joris&Amalia friendship (since Amalia and Eva probably had known him as kids, due to politics.)

Episode 6 - Vampyro

I think everyone who wears an enchanted cape to look cooler is a bit of a try-hard edgelord. Sorry not sorry, but this applies to Julith as well.

Episode 7 - Poisonous Beauty

Episode 8 - Xav the Baker

This moment is so important to me. You have no idea how important it is. Yugo and Eva both know that there's not much that he can do to bribe her. And its hilarious.

[puts on tinfoil hat] We know that Chtibrout Town and Xav the Baker are in Amakna. This means that this town is very famous for its baking — enough for a foreign king to be interested, and for a person from Bonta to come to compete here.

That, or this line of thinking is just a sign of my declining mental state.

Episode 9 - Ruel's Bag

The map lore deepens.

There is no safe place for mortals in the krosmoz.

Why being born a twelvian is already a death sentence.

I once came across a post of @phosphorus-12 talking with vinillain about a topic I incredibly became focused on.

The post where they were talking about Yugo never seeing his friends again.

I read their conversation three times, and each time I reread it, it became increasingly clear that Yugo’s situation is not worth being deemed worthwhile or even incredible.

Yugo's experience of death differs from that of his friends. Even the deaths of Dally, who is an ex-god, were considered normal in comparison.

We all know by now that Yugo has a death cycle.

No matter how many times Yugo dies and comes back to life, it will undoubtedly be a painful experience to see. Repeatedly facing death and returning to a life where he no longer remembers his friends can be a distressing ordeal. His recurring history of losing people and then losing the memory of them may stem from his purpose and role as one of the primordial eliatropes. Born to serve his people as a protector, Yugo’s original goal was clear, but now that he has experienced something new outside of his original home, the endless cycle feels futile, especially because he found something unrelated to his people that he grew to love.

If for whatever reason he gets told about his past life by someone who's been there, chances are, Yugo will literally say: "Well that's not me anymore, that was one of my past lives. I don't remember doing all of that with them." He'd respond so nonchalantly.

And the worst part about this is that WE KNOW HE WILL SAY IT LIKE THAT.

We've seen his and Adamaï's reactions when they went to Mount Zinit in the Wakfu manga (between season 2 and the ovas) and learned about their people and SAW THEIR OLD ROOM AND SHIP.

Upon seeing what was left of their past, Yugo and Adamaï do not express any bitterness or distress in the slightest.

This reaction confused me and slightly weirded me out because I expected them to have a more negative response, considering the life-altering nature of the event and the fact that they are now in a different world. Typically, one would expect some level of negative emotion upon returning to one of their gravesites, even if they don't remember their most recent past life.

Not only that, but Yugo even talks about his old reincarnation as if he were another person. When he saw the recorded message his past self tried sending to Adamaï, Yugo just addressed himself as "he" and not "I."

Even in this last panel, he had trouble considering and saying out loud that "that man" was him. Look at how his first instinct was to say "he" and not "I." It was only after a quick correction that he finally gave up and spoke with the knowledge that the man was indeed him.

Another thing I should mention about the manga is that @kerubimcrepin talked about volume 4 in this post and mentioned Yugo and Adamaï's cycle by comparing it to Joris. The line that especially hit me was this one, and I quote: "It's especially horrifying and off-putting because of how casual Adamaï and Yugo are about death and forgetting. Joris has always valued memories — they may as well be all he has of some of the people he loves, at this point. It's the reason he gifted them his fishing rod — in a way, it is a memory of Khan."

If he and Adamaï can respond with such nonchalant attitudes about the challenging and tragic events of their past lives, supported by visual evidence, then there's a possibility that he will also react with indifference in his next life to the news that he once had amazing friends in his old life.

So again, their reactions to seeing Mount Zinit and their old ship are incredibly eery and disheartening.

By the way I incredibly urge you to read what @kerubimcrepin said about volume 4 in the post I shared above, they absolutely killed it.

We know cameras exist in the World of Twelve thanks to Season 2. The Brotherhood of the Tofu went to an island to help an ecaflip rescue his fiance. At the end of it, and during the mission, we saw the male ecaflip using photographs in his flashbacks to explain what happened to him.

So if photographs and cameras exist in the World of Twelve, the least Yugo could do is capture his memories in pictures. His boufbowl matches back in the day are already engraved in history, but his memories with his friends had to have been kept in a photo book as well.

Despite not seeing Yugo capture any moments, I can heartedly believe that he'd be the type to capture those moments to keep them to himself secretly.

I headcanon that he keeps those photos in a safe box and stares at them when he's all alone.

To be aware that your life's experiences with other people means nothing to your cycle because you're going to forget about it all in the long run anyway is tragic and trauma inducing. Yugo will have to keep on living and living and living until there's no meaning behind living anymore. Life and death will have no meaning and no concept. Even if he can't remember his past lives like Qilby and Shinonome, he could someday be left wondering why he's even here anymore if all he's done is keep repeating the same life and death cycle for millennials.

I genuinely wonder if Amalia ever thought about Yugo's case at all. She's his wife now, so I'm curious to know if she thinks she's unintentionally giving him more burden on his shoulders or doesn't like to think about it, so she shuts her feelings away. The closest thing we've come to seeing her talk or even hearing about it out loud (despite already knowing it) was when she overheard Yugo talk to fake Ruel, aka Sipho, in the Enutrof level of Oropo's tower.

Yumalia has always been doomed from the start and I still don't know if it was worth it or not lol

But regardless, the reason why I even brought Yugo's immortal case into this is because despite having a very cursed cycle, there is at least one thing that his primordial status gets him saved from: being a mortal. At least a twelvian mortal anyway.

Back then, I initially assumed that if you were a mortal in the World of Twelve and died, you'd only go to a realm called Incarnam.

For those who don't know, Incarnam is a floating island that's located on the back of a giant stoned dragon. It's cut off from the rest of the world, but we can catch a glimpse of it at the beginning of Season 4 when we zoom in on the Brotherhood of the Tofu in the Inglorium.

Like the name Incarnam suggests, you reincarnate again and let the cycle of reincarnation run its course. Even if you die again, you'll still go back to Incarnam and repeat the process. You'll become someone else entirely and will have another different life. You won't be yourself anymore but your soul will be the same.

This process is actually a much more graceful way to tackle the cycle of reincarnation, unlike Yugo and his siblings' where they stay the same and act the same and look the same in every cycle.

But Incarnam has a catch to it. And my god, it's so dark.

If you were to ask me what the scariest thing about the krosmoz is, it would be the fact that mortals not only have a shorter life span than demigods, but their souls eventually cease to exist.

And by that, I mean the mortal souls literally expire...

The place where expired souls have completed their entire repetitional cycle go to is called Externam.

Unlike Incarnam, you can never leave from Externam.

Externam is the realm of the dead.

According to Externam's wiki, this is where souls who have completed their cycle of reincarnation are expelled from the krosmoz. There is a portal connecting the World of Twelve to Externam, and it is located in Frigost at Ilyzaelle's Belvedere, under the guard of the latter, who ensures that the souls found there do not escape.

Externam also happens to have a special section created to the side called "The Hall of the Brave" which is a place meant for the most rewarding heroes of the World of Twelve.

This dimension is led by the queen and creator named Thanatena. (who, by the way, is a direct child of the Great Dragon, which makes her and the council of twelve half siblings)

The left picture is her younger self, and the right picture is when she's older.

I can't imagine having your soul stacked away forever after you run out of chances and being kept there by some immortal whose job is ensuring you don't leave.

So what can you do to prevent this?

The solution? Become immortal.

If there's one thing that you DO NOT want to be in the krosmoz, is being a mortal. Despite having an afterlife where your soul gets to be kept in Incarnam for quite some time, it will eventually be in a state we never want to be in if you're not an adventurer: its expiration date.

I say it like this because if you were an adventurer, your soul would stay in "The Hall of the Brave," but who's to say it'll feel better than what Externam has in store for general mortals?

So when you think about it, when the time comes for the Brotherhood of the Tofu to die, they will all leave each other.

Dally, Eva, Amalia, and Ruel are all heroes at heart, based on everything we've seen them do, so they'll be put in the "Hall of the Brave" and tucked away forever.

Meanwhile, Yugo will die, get reborn, and forget absolutely everything that he came to love about this world and how he got to meet his very first friends, went on many different adventures with them, fought off demigods and other powerful foes, saved the world and risked it a couple of times, got married, and ruled a kingdom together with his wife.

He'll never remember them all, and when one of the very few people from his past life who could still be alive tells him of his past self, Yugo will shrug it off and wish the person luck.

THAT is exactly why Yugo would be doomed living among mortals and why Grougaloragran didn't just keep him at Oma Island. He knew how much Yugo had a big heart and would easily be capable of caring for mortals, who, again, have a very shitty life span and afterlife.

So, not only are Yugo's relationships lost causes, but the general system of life and death for mortals is terrifying.

This is why vinillain's response in the post I shared above hurt so much. Because Yugo is aware that he will react like this, he will respond indifferently in his next life if he ever finds out about his friends. It's already too late for him to distance himself from them.

Okay so, i was worried that jason & sophie were headed towards a relationship, especially with how belinda acted when humphrey brought up the princess of hurricaines however!! With clive talking to sophie & belinda about not just punching jason when they feel like it, i feel better about either option of there being romance between them or not. What made you start shipping Joris, Atcham and Kerub? /genq

Ok this might sound insane but to answer this I need to start with 2015-2018 and talk about 5-6 other fandoms. uh ohhh.

2015-2019

At this moment, my main fandom is Undertale and Homestuck, with fluctuations between both. Me and my mutuals get heavily harassed, and some of us get doxxing threats from the harassment group consisting of illiterate fuckers making up the majority of UT fandom, and our ships get the good old incestjacketing treatment ("umm theyre actually adoptive siblings and found family in my headcanon. You can't ship that"). Multiple people quit the internet or delete all social media due to the death threats. One person stops posting in english and moves solely to Japanese UT fandom. Many accounts are wiped.

At this moment, despite my personal hate (I HATED THEM SO MUCH... LMAO. I wonder what past me would think...) for incest shippers in HS fandom, I think to myself "if even people who ship unrelated characters get hate for shipping them & portraying a character not as Good but as morally gray get attacked like this and can't stop it, I feel bad for people who actually ship problematic things. I don't think people who ship amoral things deserve the treatment me and my friends went through. They're easy to avoid and aren't hurting real people... Unlike some."

It... idk, it's silly, but it really affected how I view fandoms. I think about it a lot I guess. Idk.

Sometime during this time I first watch W4kfu. D0fus becomes my comfort media and I relate a lot to Joris. #neglected by parents squad. Lmao

2022-2023

A lot of things happen at the same time: i get back into UT fandom and become mutuals with multiple people in the same circles that I used to be in. I meet two mutuals, one of them being Egg. They were also veterans of this bullshit discourse. Me and Egg quickly discovered we shared multiple fandoms and had the exact same favorite characters and the exact same, similarly unpopular takes, besides our UT fandom trauma. (Liking Lisa Armstrong from Lisa the Painful, liking Pink Diamond from SU...)

Egg got me into Kingdom Hearts, where my main ship was problematic. At this point, I started using twitter to follow & see content by Japanese fans of UT and KH because they were the only ones who liked the same ships I do and weren't going to tell me to kill myself again ufuxjsndd. (And also because the ship I got into used to be popular, but then all of it's English speaking fans were bullied out of fandom, besides a small community on Twitter. Which I quickly became part of.)

These KH fans included incest shippers among them. Which was still a big squick for me. But I chugged along bc I'm not the one to judge.

In return, I got my friend Egg into Wakfu, because I thought they may enjoy it. And they did. During my rewatch something evil happens and I realize how deeply Insane and Fucked it is that Joris just lives for 600 years with his dad, who might not even remember him. A kafkaesque Metamorphosis occurs one night when, I shit you not, I spontaneously burst into tears while falling asleep because of thinking about how sad Joris must be. My friend egg ends up being a Qilbynome shipper & biiiig fan of Amalia by the end of their watch and they dgaf about Joris. 😭🥀 Egg plants in my head the seeds of "immortality corrupts people" concept with their Qilbynome posting.

At some point, I see another mutual from the same UT fandom circle begin sharing a lot of analysis posts about Hunter from toh being a victim of "covert/emotional incest". I research it, because I feel like this might fit what I think Joris's main issue is. And it does fit. I begin reading other analysis posts by the same person, and see that they ship Hunter and Belos, basing the whole thing off their own childhood experiences. I think "I wonder how they post fics about their experiences so bravely. without being afraid that people are going to go to their comments to tell them they're the proof that all victims eventually become pedophiles and that they should slit their wrists. I want to write this bravely too... like, about my neglect, and other dark topics... something as affecting and honest."

Sometime during this, I write Hocus-Pocus. Egg proofreads it. The entire concept of the fic is that Keke is woefully mentally ill, unequipped to be a parent, and treats Joris as a surrogate sibling/bestie/parent/wife which is fucking with Joris's self-perception in unfixable ways, which Keke isn't getting or seeing or acknowledging.

At this point, I am slowly going insane from having nobody to talk to about these characters and start to try and psiop my KH mutuals into watching D0fus via post-ironic incestposting. It turns out, however, that you can only make so many postironic posts before you start to suspect you're no longer being ironic or edgy.

At this point the "not platonic, not romantic, but a secret, eviler thing" phase started. I didn't want them to be in a romantic relationship (STILL DON'T, for the most part. I largely just like to think about Joris's unrequited feelings), or saw them in a sexual way (this has changed 🥀).

Amidst my slow freakout, Fragile Handle With Care is born. It is a platonic fic, but Joris having incestuous intrusive thoughts is a core part of its plot. I did my utmost to portray in a realistically twisted, mentally ill, sad way.

I was sure that I would get death threats or doxxing threats or suicide bait after posting it, but uhhhh... I gained multiple mutuals,,, in this fandom,,,, instead. Which was cool but scary. I wondered what any of them thought of the failed kiss scene but elected not to ask. 😭

2023-2024

I meet some cool people. I make my dofus blog because I really want to yap about my more "sane" ideas. I finally tell some mutuals in this fandom about my more insane takes, and we begin brainstorming even MORE insane ideas. I decide that, having drawn &written them sucking and fucking AND having imagined them kissing and cuddling in their sleep to calm myself while sad probably counts as shipping even if I don't want it to actually happen and think it's mostly OOC, and come to peace with it.

(Romanticizing fictional family bonds is like crack cocaine when you have BPD & your parents didn't like feed or clean you enough as a child it turns out. 🥀😭 )

Learning about W4ven and Joris's war crimes does smth to my brain and I think "of course you'd do warcrimes. stupid dadfucker."

Slowly begin crashing out with paranoid thoughts that my takes are extremely obvious. Its exacerbated by the general uhhh. Well you know how this fandom is and what its dramas are like, lmao. I stop following most of my KH mutuals because I get so scared that some big name fans might make a google doc about me being an evil and fucked up person. Then I stop using twitter altogether. Then I see drama leak here too and get even more scared. (I don't.... Uhh... Give a shit about kr0smoz fandom drama, btw. Other peoples beef is literally none of my business. Dont bother me about it anymore. i beg.)

Then, in a quick succession, I

1. Implied I want to be a part of an anti-harassment server about kr0smoz too obviously and got called a pedophile for it. And that person then said that all russian people are pedophiles? I think it was someone really mentally ill lmao.

2. Something really bad happened in another fandom.

It all kinda... made me lose my last shreds of hope in any sort of respect or coexistence with people who are just going to call me a pedophile or an abuser for making art? And I felt like it was a matter of time until someone hated me enough to do something to me. So i decided to give up and make people hate me with my own two hands — instead of giving ppl the satisfaction of bringing me down, I made this satisfaction mine only. Ufjdjsj

I hadn't had any hate mail on except that singular ask, but I'm sure a lot of people dislike me quietly now. That's fine by me. I'm so much happier now lmao & I'm doing my part by tagging it.

Day 9: Wishes and Hopes 🌠✨

For his deepest desires, I wanted to focus on his desire to have a family. It is only mentioned once in A Storm of Swords when Jon thinks about a chance that he could marry Val and have a son too. This is after Stannis offers him Winterfell. We know Jon refuses the offer in the end. I am yet to read A Dance With Dragons. So far this is the only instance I have seen Jon's desire for Winterfell. He mentioned that a son is not something dared dream about ever since he decided to live on the Wall. Jon Snow was dining in the common room with his friends while Ghost was sleeping underneath the table. The common room was bustling with brothers talking and shouting and some even singing. Toad also started to sing but Halder whacked him on the head with his spoon. They were to leave on the Great Ranging in a moon turn. There were still many preparations to be made.

Jon had been running all over Castle Black, going to Maester Aemon, Donal Noye, Bowen Marsh, and Othell Yarwyck carrying the Lord Commander's orders and messages and attending to the Lord Commander's needs. He hadn't dined with his friends in a long time since they also had other responsibilities.

The conversation had started with Hobb's lamb stew but ended with Lord Commander's son, Jorah Mormont. Pyp had been surprised that the Old Bear had a son because the thought of him having a child never occurred to anyone. "He had caught poachers in the woods and he sold them to slavers" Sam explained, "Did you ever meet him?" Sam asked turning to Jon.

"He had come to visit Winterfell with his Lady Wife, Lady Lynesse" Jon tried to remember Jorah Mormont but all he could remember was Lady Lynesse's scornful expression when she looked at Jon.

"How could someone like the Old Bear end up with a slaver for a son?" Pyp exclaimed.

"He wanted to replicate the luxuries of Oldtown" Jon said, everyone in the North knew this story, maybe everyone in Oldtown too since Lady Lynesse was Hightower by birth. He and his siblings had heard the story from Jory "He had been knighted after he showed courage during the Greyjoy rebellion for being one of the few men to breach through the siege of Pyke"

He looked at his friends and they were listening "He received the Knighthood from King Robert personally."

"After that, there was a tourney at Lannisport," Sansa had asked Jory to repeat this part many times since she found it so romantic "To celebrate victory over the Greyjoy rebels, there he saw the Lady Lynesse Hightower and he fell in love with her instantly" Arya had called him an idiot for that.

Pyp laughed "There you have it folks, the man was har-" Grenn and Sam shushed him and told Jon to continue.

"He asked for her favour and she agreed, after that, he defeated all the challengers and tied with the Kingslayer but the King named Jorah Mormont the victor"

"And Jorah named Lynesse Hightower his Queen of Love and Beauty, the same night he asked her father for her hand and he surprisingly agreed, they married in Lannisport and returned to Bear Island together"

"That was fast" Pyp said

"But why did he sell to slavers?" Grenn asked

"Lynesse Hightower was raised a wealthy Hightower, she was unprepared for the harsh and isolated Bear Island, and she grew miserable there, Mormont spent more money than he had and had driven himself to ruin by buying her expensive gifts, hiring a cook from Oldtown and a singer from Lannisport, he also had a ship built for his wife"

"He was unable to pay his debts so he sold poachers to Tyroshi slavers. When my father.." his throat swelled up at the thought of his father he remembered him and Robb sitting in his solar as Father told them about this, he could still smell the burning candles and wood of the furniture and the parchments all across the desk. Sam put a hand on Jon's shoulder, "Jon?" his friend asked, he looked up and saw his friends looking at him with concern.

"When my father heard of it, we rode to Bear Island to bring him to justice but he had fled by then,"

"We?" Grenn asked

"Robb and I were with him, it was going to be our first beheading" Jon answered

"First beheading?" Pyp looked horrified "You were what? Ten?" Grenn and Sam looked horrified as well.

"We weren't going to behead him ourselves" Jon explained smiling "We were just going to watch"

"It's still queer" Pyp said "You and your Lord's lesson."

"I feel sorry for Lord Mormont" Grenn said "I don't know how I would feel if my son was a slaver"

"You will have to lay with a woman to have a son" Pyp laughed "But even a horse won't lay with you"

"More horses would lay with me than you!" Grenn exclaimed without thinking, which caused everyone to laugh and Grenn turned red as a beetroot.

Afterwards, no one could finish their food without bursting into fits of laughter. When they would stop someone would crack and the others would follow. When Jon cracked for the 4th time, Grenn said "I wasn't thinking! Let it go!"

Dinner was over and Jon went to the Lord Commander's solar to see if he had any need of him before dinner. But there was no need for him so the Lord Commander dismissed him.

Jon went to his chambers and got ready for bed. Ghost came and jumped on the bed with Jon. He could not sleep. He kept thinking about what Grenn had said: I don't know how I would feel if my son was a slaver. Grenn was clumsy but not dumb he knew he could not have a son. None of them can have any children or even a wife. This was a hypothetical situation.

What would I do if my son was a slaver? Jon wondered, What would I do if I had children?

Rickon was the last baby he saw. He was such a small thing with lungs so strong, his cries could be heard even in the crypts of Winterfell. It was no surprise how wild he grew up to be. When Rickon was born Jon, for the first time, had wondered what a family of his own would be like. Back then he was young and a green boy still, and he still believed that somehow he would find a place at Winterfell or even in the North as Robb's bannerman.

He thought that he would do some great deed, and his father would make him a Stark and give him a holdfast to rule in Robb's name and he would serve his brother loyally. He imagined that he would marry someone and have children of his own. A family where he would belong despite his bastardy. A place to feel at home without judgement and stares.

He used to imagine a courtyard like Winterfell's full of boys and girls running around laughing and playing. He felt sad thinking about it, he knew it would never be true anymore, but he also knew he was not a green boy anymore. He was a man of the Night's Watch now. He had sworn himself to take no wife and father no children. Whatever summer dreams he'd had before did not matter anymore.

He decided to himself that he would never think about it anymore. He was going Beyond The Wall and thinking such thoughts were of no use there. Whatever dreams and desires and hope he had were now a thing of the past.

And yes. After my most recent playthrough I def think Jory is lying. I do NOT think he’s lying about Helena or the baby (his tone changes the same way Blackwall’s does in his early tomance lines) but something is absolutely rotten.

I got into it in the comments and wound up agreeing with the person who suggested Jory was a merc about to be strung up. Duncan saved him and offered him a place but Jory didn’t get the whole ‘for life’ bit

Also I went back one more time for Jordanan’s compilation bid and caught one last think I hadn’t noticed before: Jory has a fear of darkspawn. Has since he was a kid when his parents used them and their stories as a threat. Poor guy.

Anyway thanks to everyone here who has also cared about my daft little idea or that my Rook is his daughter. (I hc that Helena fled, wound up on a boat to Tevinter, and the Qunari ran the ship aground right as Helena went into labor. The baby survived (found by the later-Legatus Mercar when he was a junior officer) but Helena did not.

How I feel about this character

In general I like her a lot.

She's our rock into the bs of politics, handling all the off-screen political things that would melt the Commander's brain and patience, and despite her upbringing she never acted "too good for us", instead being gentle and nice with everyone.

I got more to say, but it's just nice to have her as one of the "hearts" of Dragon's Watch (the other being Rox to a more practical extent), and I love her when she gets to be a little silly!

My unpopular opinion about this character

Gotta go with my alt!Tyria Commander, Vesska, as Kas and Marjory are pretty much their best friends, with Kas in particular being just a few steps removed from being their platonic partner.

Vesska is pretty casual and open about intimacy, but sometimes you just want to hug and cuddle with a mf after a taxing day, and that one couple of "friends from work" (that are not interested in them) proved to be the perfect fit for that emotional need they didn't know they had (HoT was rough and Kas saw through their facade, pushing for being physically supportive too and making Vesska go [sad cheetah meme]).

After HoT, they gain full permission to crash at their house in Divinity's Reach when they're all in downtime. During one of those "sleepover" occasions they also introduced them to "the kind of self-care things human gals do", and they lost count of how many times they ended up in a platonic cuddle pile of blankets, chatting the day away while pampering each other.

She's so fucking strong and people don't give her enough credit for it.

I've seen people discount her as a token bimbo barbie-lookalike, but she was just a tad naive and adjusting to her upturned life when we first meet her, as she started working for Marjory not long after she lost everything and her dad due to her brother's debts. Since then she's only shown intelligence, both practical and emotional, her beauty doesn't really matter at any point, and she's in the Mesmer Collective ffs.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Same goes for people dissing her for letting Marjory get hurt and "abandoning her" afterwards.

Crisis of faith are not nice nor an easy thing to deal with normally, but she handled hers pretty damn well given the situation. Like, imagine being extremely devoted all your life and then not only one of your gods turns out to be just the guy you've been trying to keep from destroying the world, but he also nearly kills the love of your life because she pissed him off (something she did without talking about it with her first and then not being around for likely months).

Her emotions were probably already running a bit high after reuniting with Jory, so being paralyzed by the shock of the reveal and betrayal of one of the centers of her faith is more than an understandable reaction on her part, and one can only imagine the immensity of the guilt for her own inaction. Jory was not wrong to be upset about what happened, but neither was Kas when she panicked about having a confrontation with her, between the guilt and being extremely upset about her world being turned upside down once again.

And yet, instead of wallowing in it forever, she did at least try to mend things with Jory off-screen, and then went to try to do something about the rogue god's actions, since she's already in Amnoon when we get there, and then she works through it all (including getting confirmation that the rest of her gods are skidaddling) like a freaking champ.

The wedding.

Sure it'd be nice if she got some closure with her brother about what happened (an apology, her blowing up at him, a punch, anything that'd suit her) or some of her family's stuff returned (mostly so she can have more than her stuff and teddy bear), but for sure she deserves nice things only now.

Liveblog: Wakfu Season 1 (episodes 13-18)

Episode 13 - Calm Blue Sea

It might be hard to believe now, but when I first watched the show, my favorite character was Nox.

I don't think about him often anymore, but I still really like him. This episode is one of the first ones where we get glimpses at his backstory, which is fun.

(Geez, I'm predictable for liking characters who are over a hundred years old and care a lot about their families...)

Another reason this episode is big is Soft Oak's death. 1. He's a lore character, I suppose, and 2. I like to headcanon that this is the reason Joris went to Sadida Kingdom.

It's just a silly little headcanon but to elaborate (and sadly, go a bit forward in terms of episodes):

Soft Oak was the friend of the tree of life.

2. Nox seems to have been a bigger issue for the world than shown in the series, considering the fact that Yugo says he's ravaged countries/other reasons.

Bonta and Sadida Kingdom seem to be on good terms — so it would be reasonable to assume that if Nox began going after great tree entities of the world, it would pose a threat to Sadida Kingdom. This opens the possibility that Joris was sent there for this reason, at the time of episode 13 or later.

The timing would also be appropriate — Joris arrives in Sadida Kingdom just a bit before the Brotherhood of Tofu. Though we do not know the route he took.

Chopsticks spotted...! At this point, I'm beginning to believe they're just very common in this world, and as widely used as forks and spoons.

Episode 14 - Moon Island

[guy who is mentally ill about fishing in this franchise voice] guys imagine Kerubim, Atcham, and Joris on a ship. Competing against one another in fishing.

I really like knowing all the various superstitions in this world because, y'know, Ecaflips love those doubly.

My honest reaction to this moment, as well as all moments involving the night sky and cosmos, in this franchise:

Your daily reminder that Joris has canonically been to Kanniball island and the only things he had to say are "nice locals. don't stay for dinner."

Episode 15 - Adamai

Do you think Adamai's bond with a crackler makes him more or less likely to fucking hate Joris in Waven times.

Rare "Eva Taking an L" moment. A real "You still believe the earth revolves around the sun at your age?" sort of line for her to say.

Episode 16 - The Eliacube

Adamai forgot to account for old man stupidity.

Even though I have issues with how his arc of descent into batshit insanity and subsequent redemption were handled, I do want to say that I have always thought that this + Grougal's death was when the darkness began to grow within him.

Episode 17 - Grougaloragran the Eternal

No commentary. This is a legendary episode.

Episode 18 - The Brotherhood of the Tofu

Please don't throw rocks at me, but I'm not the biggest fan of how Pinpin and Eva's relationship was handled. They're cute together, but the decision to give them drama the second their relationship became canon was a bit... jarring, on the first viewing.

Bc i know for SURE that if sonic and knuckles were here at the same time they would discover joris en de draak - a huge wooden rollercoaster with a blue cart and a red cart that race to the finish - and they would do nothing else the entire day than riding this roller coaster in the carts of their respective colors counting the scores of who won the most times

Team chaotix goes to the theme park for an investigation or something but charmy gets them kicked out for trying to eat the hanzel and gretzel house

Considering how high-speed the Sonic cast is, I think the rollercoasters have their attention most, haha. At least, I doubt any of them are afraid of high speeds, twists and turns, sudden drops, etcetera! I can see Cream and Charmy have fun in the playgrounds for the smaller children as well, and everyone also gets dragged into the haunted/cursed house. Lmao, I can imagine Espio is the one who can quite accurately predict when scary things will occur and by what mechanism (Vector can too but he doesn't want to ruin it for the children, also because I can imagine he likes it when Charmy gets spooked lol), so anyone who is frightened just needs to go to him to get their nerves calmed. But what kinda attraction Silver would like, I can't really say. I doubt he'll be too impressed by all the high-speed attractions or the ones where there's a lot of movement, like the wild water course or the swinging ship. But for him, perhaps the vibes and the colours of everything is more important? I think he'll have a lot of fun if he can spend that time with his friends!

Dear Jori,

I’m in Portland rn visiting my brother. His son is so adorable and lively. Last time I saw him he was a grouch but apparently it was cause he was sick.

I’m recovering from Saturday. I went to Rattleship, it was a rave on a fricken battle cruiser lol. Amy was there and apparently Jwang was supposed to be there too but I guess we’ll never know. I didn’t even get a chance to look cause I ended up blacking out. I was feeling myself cause the Rocketship company event and Tiffany’s birthday I had a pretty good time drinking so I thought okay it’s a long event I’ll drink first and drop later. But yeah ended up too hot don’t remember much AND I lost my favorite tank :(

Saw Bchow from Davis and Curtis from Davis also. And met up with Amy for a bit. And Francois mostly took care of me. I remember low key making some friends in line and then seeing them in the ship. The boy was kinda cute haha.

How was AX? Weren’t you supposed to stream the other day? I’ve stopped checking your twitter and you streams. But I still see your name pop up on the side. Yknow it’s kinda funny, before you I used to say I was a pretty big Soju fan but I never went on twitch. I was just a YouTube frog. And now I have all the streamers to watch and they’re up all the time as background noise. Which made me think, what made you want to get into streaming? Was there someone you really liked? That inspired you to start? And it also would explain why you always had twitch open, since it was something you really liked.

It’s about one month to leaving now. I’m excited. It really is about to be a whole new chapter / adventure. I wish I could talk to you about it. Well I guess I am. But it gets a little lonely talking to someone that doesn’t talk back.

Oh I’ve been climbing in TFT too. I’ve made jt to GM and lost all the LP and then made it back to GM. I was in a game with Toast and Hafu and I said “Omg Hafu and Toast in the same lobby my knees are buckling” to which Toast said “silence you nobody”.

Laszlo & Nadja: (idk their ship name lol) married and endlessly horny and in love with each other, pls don’t ever change this relationship

Vauseman: Dated in the past and their whole love affair is a huge part of the show. They part ways in the end but Piper bucks up and moves to Ohio just to be with Alex so still canon and hopefully real married when Alex gets out

Janason: Had an on and off relationship due to Jason being rebooted hundreds of times but Janet always retained feelings for him. They eventually find each other again through the course of the series and finally get to spend endless bearimies together til Jason walked through the door 😭 Still in love til the end but it’s so sweet and sad

Harlivy: Literally is canon in the comics, was heavily implied since the 90s, also implied in other assorted animated medias, kinda only noticed as “canon” recently cause of the HQS (which I love) but it’s unfortunate people wouldn’t believe me till that episode and season came out. In media where they’re not together though they were either exes or I choose to believe they have a past together :)

BBRae: Depends on the universe whether they’re together or not but for the most part they’re dating or have mutal crushes on each other. If not, I choose to ship in any universe lol

Zadison: Had a canon threesome but should’ve been properly developed more as a relationship but Ryan Murphy hates sapphics >:((

Jori: Bade was the main ship throughout the run but if they were ever to reboot it, Jori would have to be canon now. Cause as we all rewatch it, we understand it was Jori all along.

Gelphie: Similar to Jori in we all thought it was the straight ship but you rewatch it and think, wait a minute..these bitches gay. Ofc you’re wrong but in my HEAD they ran off together

Hizzie: For a hot second, I legit thought these two were gonna be canon. I know it’s Hosie forever but like after Kaylee left, the development between these two took a weird turn and Lizzie kept rejecting MG and going to Hope. Plus their already established frenemy relationship and past episode developments focused on their friendship like..why didn’t this happen?

Amedot: I thought this was gonna happen back in 2016/17 because of weird subtext we got but that was probably just wishful thinking. My thoughts on it were “I know nothing is going to happen but I think there’s a less than 1% chance for something, or at least for subtext”. But then Lapidot took over the fandom so I was wrong lol. Ofc neither ship actually became canon and Peri was revealed to be an intended aro/ace, which slowed down some shipping but not all of it ofc. Side note: the artist who “confirmed” ace/aro peri also ships amedot sooo.. I guess you’re good in that aspect? Anyways, now I do still ship it but mostly nostalgically and I think prime 2016 amedot was the best.

Cassunzel: I like this purely hypothetically but I do think they had a canon crush on each other in the show which is gone by the ending but it’s only real in my heart ❤️

Reiusa: Literally never gonna happen but I like the what if of them together in the future and co-parenting Chibiusa while still giving jabs at each other and the whole Rei cares about Usagi more than she lets on. I’m wrong but it’s nice to dream
