Fanfic - The Arrangement: The Chemsit AU - 1/1
Summary: Iris West takes a big risk and decides to strike a deal with the city’s most dangerous crimnal; The Chemist.
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2794
A/N: Follow up chapter to The Chemist fic I wrote about a year ago.
“This has to be the stupidest thing you've ever done.”
Iris suppressed the urge to let out a very frustrated sigh at her friends' words. Instead double checked that she had pepper spray in her purse and her phone was fully charged.
“Iris are you listening to me?”
“Yes Linda,” Iris gave her a clipped response. “I've been listening the entire car ride here where you've said many times what a stupid idea this is.”
Iris looked out the car window towards the building across the street; a night club owned by Black Amunet a known associate of The Chemist. She had it on good authority he would be here tonight.
“This whole plan is crazy,” Linda kept going. “You're going to get yourself killed.”
“Wait for me here,” Iris ignored her friend's concern. “I'll be back soon.”
She felt a little bad for leaving a stunned looking Linda behind but Iris needed to focus. She knew Linda had a good reason to think she was crazy but she needed to see The Chemist again.
Getting inside the club didn't take much effort. She'd wore a very tight black dress that hugged her curves and makeup that gave her a dark sultry look. She knew the clientele for this club were a little rougher around the edges. They'd never let anyone in who looked like a narc or a doe-eyed normie. She made sure to give the bouncer one enticing look with her red painted lips pulled into a wicked smile and he immediately let her in.
Iris felt a wave of hot and sticky air as she entered the club. Flashes of neon lights that cut through the dark. A haze of grey smoke hung in air making Iris feel a little dizzy. The small space packed with people most of them clustered into groups drinking and smoking. All of those she made eye contact with had a hardness in their eyes that made it clear they were capable of lying, stealing and killing without a second thought.
Even in the dark haze Iris could spot some of Central City's most notorious criminals. Like Killer Frost's distinctive white hair from where she at at the bar downing back to back shots. Crime boss Cisco Ramon sat at a table in the back holding court over his men. Most importantly she spotted Ralph Dibny aka the Elongated Man notoriously known as The Chemist's second in command.
If he was here that meant The Chemist must be too.
Feeling her heart beat pick up with adrenaline Iris started to navigate the dense crowd following Ralph's tall, lanky form. She had to push roughly past a few people to make sure she didn't lose sight of him. She managed to follow where he walked to a far corner of the bar, up a small set of stairs to a raise platform. Iris guessed it to be the VIP section of the club but the chairs and tables sat empty. Only The Chemist sat there completely alone.
She could feel his eyes on her as soon as she came into his line of sight. A flash of memory of their last encounter hit her as she remembered how green his eyes were.
Iris barely had time to decide what to do next before Ralph Dibny stood directly in her path.
“Where exactly do you think you're going?” He said while glaring at her.
“Let her through Ralph,” The Chemist called out. “I want to see her.”
Ralph gave her one look of warning before stepping aside.
Iris walked up the steps on to the VIP section and for the first time felt uncertain. She remembered the last time they crossed paths months ago. She'd been handcuffed to a chair and at his mercy. She only escaped because of luck. Any sane person would steer clear from someone this dangerous yet she found herself willing walking into what could be a trap.
The Chemist sat relaxed in one of the leather chairs. He wore the same black outfit except his jacket was tossed over the back of his chair. Now up close to him Iris tried not to think about how the black fabric of his shirt stretched over his broad shoulders. Or how could he looked reclined with his long legs stretched out.
He may have looked relaxed but Iris could tell by the tension in his body he would move to strike at any moment. His green eyes tracked her every movement, lingering on the bare skin of her legs and shoulders. Deep down Iris might have picked this dress to get his attention and it both thrilled and concerned her to have it.
“Interesting to see you here,” He gestured to the chair across from him. “Have a seat.”
Iris eyed the chair suspiciously and made no move to sit on it.
“I'm not going to handcuff you again,” The Chemist assured her with a smirk. “Not unless you want me to.”
Iris tried to keep her face straight but she could feel heat spread through her body at the promise in his eyes.
Iris sat down, crossing her legs which drew the Chemist's attention as the dress rode up her thighs a little.
“I have to say I wasn't expecting you,” The Chemist lifted his eyes up to look at her directly. “This doesn't seem like it be your scene.”
“You shouldn't underestimate me,” Iris replied back. “There's a lot about me you don't know.”
“Is that a challenge?” The Chemist cocked his eyebrows up in question. “Because its been a long time since I found a beautiful woman like to be challenging.
As much as Iris enjoyed being flirted with she needed to take back control of the conversation.
“I'm here to propose an arrangement,” Iris said firmly.
For the first time The Chemist's cool and confident demeanour dropped as his eyes widened in surprise. Iris took as much pleasure in catching him off-guard as she did when he looked at her in this dress.
“What kind of arrangement can a reporter with a squeaky clean record offer me?” The Chemist asked with genuine confusion.
“We both have a common enemy.” Iris answered. “Gold Face. We both want to take him down.”
“And you think I need your help to do that?” The Chemist leaned back in his chair crossing his arms over his chest.
“Basically, yes.” Iris leaned forward. “You left his gang a year ago. Since then you've had your battles over territory but neither of you has been able to take the other out. If you could do it on your own you would have done it by now.”
When he didn't respond Iris wondered if she pushed things too far. He remained silent for a beat. His face impassive and his green eyes going cold and dark. Perhaps her calling him out on his greatest rival got that reaction but not for the first time tonight Iris remembered why so many people in this city feared him.
“What can you do for me that others couldn't?” He pressed, his eyes assessing her.
“I can give you information.” Iris said. “The kind you can use to take him out.”
“And what do you get out of this arrangement?” The Chemist asked.
“The streets of Central safe from a man like Gold Face.”
“But then I'll be in complete control of the city. Can a upstanding citizen like you be okay with that?”
“I'll deal with you when the time comes.”
Putting it all out there was a major risk but she saw no point in lying. He either already knew her intentions or he'd figure it out soon enough. Of course he could easily have Ralph or even himself get rid of her right here and now. No one in the club would be a witness to the police for her murder. A lot of them would probably volunteer to dispose of her body to get in The Chemist's good graces. But if it kept the city safe then the risk would be worth it.
After another long pause where The Chemist stared at her intently Iris wondered if she should try to escape but The Chemist turned his gaze away from her.
“Ralph,” The Chemist gestured to the man who hadn't strayed too far. “Go to the bar and get a bottle of the best vodka they have and two glasses.”
At Iris's confused look he broke out into an amused grin.
“I always seal the deal of a new arrangement with a drink,” He said simply.
And with that Iris joined forces with one of Central City's most dangerous criminal.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Three shots of vodka later Iris knew she better leave before she lost complete control of her senses. Normally she could hold her liquor, and right now she was in a comfortable warm haze, but she knew there was a thin red line between her current state and getting drunk. In a place like this swarming with criminals everywhere you turned she couldn't afford to make herself even more vulnerable.
Besides she got what she needed. The Chemist for the time being would be working with her to take down Gold Face. Her staying around only put her more at risk. She might not be the most famous face at Picture News but she didn't want to take the chance of anyone recognizing her.
Yet leaving felt harder to do then it should. Not that she found conversation with The Chemist stimulating. All he kept doing was refilling her glass and looking at her with his pretty green eyes. His expression contemplative as he kept taking her in with his gaze. Iris felt caught between wanting to know his thoughts when he looked at her like that and being to scared at what she might find out.
But she needed to leave an insistent voice in her head kept reminding her. Her skin felt too hot, the music at the club too loud, and The Chemist's eyes were making her feel dizzy.
“I need to go,” Iris abruptly announced with a voice louder then she intended.
“So soon?” The Chemist asked amusement clear in his voice.
“I got what I wanted,” Iris said firmly. “We toasted the arrangement like you wanted. Time for me to leave.”
The Chemist knocked back one more shot before shot setting his glass down. He gestured for her to stand up as he moved to get up as well. To Iris's annoyance he stood up in one fluid motion while her unsteady legs caused her to teeter a little. She found herself being steadied as The Chemist gripped her elbow. His hand cool to the touch making it feel like a brand on her heated skin. Iris couldn't help the jolt that went through her body. And unfortunately by the smirk tugging at his lips Iris knew that he noticed.
“Ralph I'm taking her out back.” The Chemist announced
His hand moved from her elbow to wrap around her wrist. Without saying another word he led her down the steps and around to the back of the club.
Instantly Iris noticed the difference between her walking through the club alone and walking with The Chemist. When alone Iris could feel glances in her direction but they quickly slid past her, some might linger on her body out of desire but in the minds of these criminals she was no one. With The Chemist people moved to the side to give him room. Their stares seemed to be entranced by him despite The Chemist not doing anything to draw attention to himself.
Not surprisingly when Iris glanced in his direction his face remained neutral. Not giving away a single thing. Leaving Iris to wonder why he thought parading the two of them together out in the open would be a good idea.
At the back of the club away from the crowd he pushed through a door that opened to a long empty hallway lit by white florescent lights. Iris shivered as the frigid air hit her skin. The cold stillness of the hallway a complete contrast to the loud and heated air of the club.
“You know I could have escorted myself out of here,” Iris spoke now they were alone.
“And let you be eaten by the sharks out there?” Barry grinned at her. “I wouldn't do that to my new partner.”
More like you want to be the only shark who gets to eat me, Iris thought but knew better to say it out loud.
“Well I'll be fine the rest of the way,” Iris tried to tug her wrist out of his grip. “Your duty here is done.”
Except he didn't let her go.
His eyes kept looking at her in this contemplative way that made Iris's skin break out in goosebumps. She'd seen that look on him before when she'd been handcuffed to a chair at his mercy. A look that reminded Iris of a self-satisfied cat thinking about what he wanted to do with the mouse it caught.
The part that truly freaked her out is not being resistant to finding out.
In one quick movement The Chemist had her pushed up against the wall. Iris's back hit the flat surface giving her a jolt of surprise. His hands pressed against the wall on either side of her head effectively trapping her there. His body as close to her as possible without touching.
His eyes, now a darker shade of green, dropped down to her lips before looking back into her eyes. She knew that without speaking he was asking for permission to kiss her.
To Iris's own surprise she didn't push him away or refuse. Instead her hands grabbed the lapels of his black shirt to pull him down as she surged forward to kiss him.
The Chemist didn't need much more encouraging than that. His hands moved to wrap around her waist. His body pushing against hers until there wasn't an inch of space between them. One of his long legs slotted between hers making Iris gasp at the added pressure to her core.
His lips moved against hers perfectly. The right amount of pressure to make her melt against him. When he bit down on her lower lip then slipped his tongue into her mouth her knees almost gave out. She could taste the vodka on his tongue as he deepened the kiss. Iris felt herself fall into a haze of pleasure that it took her a moment to realize his hands had moved around to grab her ass.
She completely lost any sense of time when they finally broke apart. She wouldn't be able to tell you if they'd been kissing for hours or for minutes. Both were breathing heavily and their lips slick from their heavy kissing.
“Is this also how you close the deal on new arrangements?” Iris asked, her words coming out strained as she tried to catch her breath.
The Chemist gave her a smile that made heat twist in her stomach. His large hand curled around the base of her head as he tilted her face up towards him.All Iris could see were those green eyes and the dark promse in those depths.
“Only for the arrangements I really want to keep,” He said voice thick with desire before he pulled her into another kiss.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rain had started to fall as Iris hurried across the street back to Linda's car.
In one swift movement she opened the car door and slipped inside. Her heart still pounding in her chest as she sat in the seat feeling overwhelmed but a excitement buzzing through her blood.
“I was starting to worry,” Linda eyed her friend critically. “You were gone for almost two hours.”
“Sorry it took so long,” Iris's hands subconsciously smoothed down the hair she knew looked a complete mess. “I needed to do some tough negotiating.”
Linda arched up one of her eyebrows in judgment but said nothing else.
“What? I did!” Iris defended herself.
“Well that's funny because,” Linda gestured to Iris's neck. “I didn't realize 'negotiating' with dangerous criminals included letting them give you a hickey.”
Iris sat there in embarrassed silence as Linda started the car and pulled out into the road. Her hand pressed over the tender skin of her neck where The Chemist had marked her. She wondered if she truly knew what she was doing getting involved with a man like that. Iris gazed out the window as Linda drove them through the city and she wondered if she made the biggest mistake of her life.
