This post is not about Mori, and I am begging y'all to examine the implicit biases that are informing your understanding of the Port Mafia, the informal economy, and organized crime.

y'all do Gin, Higuchi, Hirotsu, Tachihara, Chuuya, Dazai, and Mori so dirty with the way you talk about who cares about Akutagawa and who doesn't.

i'm gonna make my painful contribution to The Discourse and say i do not see the harm in women reclaiming female centric spirituality.

i am not a religious person nor do i want to become one but spirituality is also about culture, community and celebration. i would much rather women celebrate nature, the female form, and "divine femininity" than patriarchal phallocentric religions. that "divine femininity" is used pejoratively has always tickled me considering we live in a world hooked on divine masculinity. the old matricentric religions are really the only form of female culture devoid of male-centric worship we can grasp at, since men have dominated our belief systems for thousands of years. and women learning about the old religions is the best way to unravel the myth of the male creator, and realise it is really women who are the closest thing to a "god" on Earth.

there's also an element here, which i think is deeply capitalist, patriarchal, and a little racist, of people considering the connection to & celebration of nature as somehow primitive. i think that the lifestyles most of us live now, with none of us knowing anything about the land around us is actually very infantile and regressive for humanity as a whole. the ways of life we consider "primitive" (primitive communism, matrilineal societies) are really what we need to find ways to return to post-capitalism. they were in tune to nature, sustainable, and much more communal & equal. how can nature be primitive or ascientific when science *is* in nature, and the practices of these old societies were early scientific discoveries & practices. as a Black person, my community is often trying to reclaim our lost practices. it makes sense to me that women would try to do so too.

Something interesting I've noticed about conversion stories is many people seem to have both a rebellious streak and a deep-seated, insatiable desire to learn everything.

One of my shul's well-respected members (who runs the hebrew/judaism class that will start soon) talked about how, when he lived in my town, he would sneak out of the house just to go to shul. That's what I'm doing now, and it's funny (I'm not sneaking out per se, but I am also not telling anybody I'm going to shul). There's an aspect of free-spiritedness that I notice in many converts, and it's fascinating to hear each of their stories. And you know the funniest part? They sound like my story.

And how else is a toddler gonna interpret the biggest celebrity in town smiling at other women who aren't her mommy? Especially when her mother isn't there anymore. And tiny Maka doesn't understand why and needs to find a reason.

something that has been bothering me the past week is middle class white liberal people despairing that they and their nuclear heterosexual families will be personally targeted by the tr*mp administration.

i have seen posts along the lines of like, "we're going to be sent to camps," "we're going to be drafted," "they're going to separate us, they love to separate families." when i read these things i'm like... ???

but perhaps that's where your mind would go if you had been conditioned by democrat propaganda... "you need to vote this way because YOU PERSONALLY will be affected." or "maybe these imaginary people over here or there, they *could* be affected." instead of: there are a number of minority groups that are currently negatively affected by this administration and the prior one; the 1st tr*mp administration made significant rollbacks to progressive measures, which was barely managed with the following biden administration; there are many people in countries all over the world that have been / are currently / will be negatively affected by the US government's various policy changes (or lack thereof).

it bugs me. it bugs me that people are only distressed when they *imagine themselves as directly and dramatically affected.* instead of the more insidious truth, which is that there are so many banal and bureaucratic means of oppression happening currently right now, and that will continue, and yes it might very well get worse, but there are people who will be first in line, and you are quite privileged and would probably be last in line, in any thought exercise about worst case scenarios.

anyway. i don't know. things don't have to be happening to you directly for you to care about them. you don't have to catastrophize and imagine yourself as a tragic protagonist to care about an issue. just do the work...

genuinely i love the post-mcc vcs when all the sweats get together to talk out their plays and what strategies they found….. it just really encompasses mcc’s spirit of friendly competition because they all just get together and talk about skips and how to cut time on courses FULLY knowing these people will likely be their adversaries next month and their own strategies might be used against them. it’s such a niche and short experience every time but it brings a smile to my fave whenever like 5up and purpled and punz and crew just get together to hype each other up and discuss strategies :]
