can you plz hate rant about the deadpool & wolverine movie… saw it last week and i didn’t like it all… very refreshing to see that someone shares my opinion lmao
i got u man👍 most of this was in my drafts from after the movie came out, but i just never got around to posting it. i added some other opinions ive had since then, tho theres still a lot ive said over the past month that ive totally forgotten about lol
the intro sequence was fucking HYPE‼️ but then, part way thru the movie, u realize....it doesnt ever hit that same mark again. WHERE TF WAS THE HUGH JACKMAN SONG THEY PROMISED? the trailers showed 95% xmen origins clips. the movie didnt mention it once. no the brothers line doesnt count. false fucking advertising. deadpools sexuality has been confirmed since 2014. and now, 10 years later, its still being reduced to gay jokes. and people still eat it up like its genuine rep.
that guy at the tva who’s whole punchline was that he likes men. why. in 2024. why is that allowed. his whole character was a gay joke. i mean so was deadpool, but this guys whole thing was. That. can i say homophobia? can i say i felt that? is that reasonable? this movie felt like a fundraiser for the future avengers movies to make up for all the recent flops.
i watched this shit twice and yea. i was right. the plot was half assed. once u watch it once, thats it. thats the fun. its all just cameos. the jokes didnt even make me laugh again, since it was majority shock based humor. my second watch thru i was trying not to fall asleep in my chair. the way it lacks plot isnt in the Not Coherent kind of way, but rather 'this couldve been a 40 minute monster of the week episode'....or maybe even a 2 episodes if they wanted to get freaky with it it just felt so separate from the rest of the movies, like it wasnt even a sequel.
literally, the movie begins with them abandoning the previous timeline and wade moving to a new ‘better’ one.....almost like hes moving over to a more sacred timeline.........separate from fox.........which is dumb af cuz the movie couldve been him accepting that whatever happens in ur life u cant go back and change, and u have to make due with the good u already have. the previous movie ended with him having a family, he didnt need a new one. i mean, they did that for logans 'learning moment', why wouldnt that also apply to wade? paradox literally says ‘hey we brought u in cuz the mcu is dying, so u should come over to the sacred timeline’ and then after he changes into his costume THEY CHANGE THE PLOT. THEY THROW THAT OUT. WITHIN MINUTES. now paradox is like ‘actually just your timeline is dying, and i wont elaborate on how that works. and also u dont get to go to the sacred timeline. and i hate you.’ WHY BRING HIM THERE AT ALL THEN IF THATS THE PLOT U CHANGED IT TO? ITS DOESNT MAKE SENSE. even if the plot was that he had to go to the sacred timeline cuz his own was dying, WHY WOULDNT HE BE ABLE TO BRING HIS FRIENDS?
what was the vanessa plot? they never explain why she broke up with him? theres like a tiny flashback where she says hes been distracted ever since he got rejected, rejected from what? clearly not the avengers, since that happens after she leaves him. so wtf was the motive here????? the cameos felt like props. especially the deadpool corps, which i feel like they didnt even skim a wiki article for. they just went off google images. which hurt me. cuz i reallyyyyy like those guys....in the comics, theyre a group of deadpools(consisting of lady deadpool, kidpool, headpool, dogpool, and deadpool), who in their first series save the multiverse from being destroyed(sound familiar?). theyre the GOOD GUYS. why tf would they hear cassandra nova say ‘hey im gonna kill the entire multiverse’ and go ‘alright sure whatever’. why were they in the void to begin with? how’d they get there? isnt the void just for movie continuities anyway? why was cassandra also there? how does the void work? why does the void exist? will someone please explain literally anything in this movie? why not have them come in later to save the fucking day instead??
oh lady deadpool...how they massacred ur character... OH KIDPOOL.....HOW THEY MASSACRED UR CHARACTER...... god speaking of that. cassandra nova had literally so much potential and they watered her down to just Evil Villain. she hasnt done much in the comics, but one the things she did in one them was using her powers for therapy on the xmen(which deadpool also made a cameo in). she sort of does this briefly in that one scene, but it was just so.....basic. bland. why was there no b plot with the rest of the main cast. did they think the audience doesnt watch these movies for them? cuz i sure fucking do. i was waiting for the continuation of colossus and wades epic romance arc. side note, the gay jokes in the previous movies felt even less queerbaity then these ones. this movies queerbaiting was just....sad. marketing queerbaiting. this movie WISHES it couldve been deadpool 2 levels of queerbait(shoutout to the extended sex mimicking scene set to In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
did anyone catch at the end when deadpool was narrating and when he said ‘friends’ yukio and negasonic teenage warhead were on screen. did anyone see that. they disney gal paled them.
i know wade is supposed to be the Funny Guy but man. thats literally all he was this movie. the other ones has ANGST they had him be HUMAN while this one was like 'logan was mean to me one time ):' bro. what happened. where'd the writers go.
this wolverine was like. the wolverine 2014 wolverine. which is when fox wolverine started to lose character and just become grumpy and mean. hes also like that in Logan 2017, but the reason why this kinda attitude works in that one is bcuz hes old, hes fucked up, hes tired, and every fuck that comes outta his mouth he means it. and yet....still manages to experience other emotions. what a concept. ive read literal satire comics that understood his character more(shoutout to the What The--?! series). it just had me waiting for the 'gotcha! this wolverine is actually 3 dimensional!' but it never fucking got there. it was amusing in the beginning, but by like half way in, i did not give a single fuck about this guy. they tried to give him some emotional moment(like. the only emotional moment in the entire film) but it just...lacked the emotion. just 'heres my sad backstory. are u sad now?' and then they did the SAME THING AGAIN no we get it man u were at the bar instead of with ur friends and u went on a classic wolverine style berserker rage. why should we care tho?
i mean, sure, they could use the excuse of being in the type of depressive state where ur emotions numb out(speaking as a mfer with the came curse), and yea hes not the kinda guy to open up about his emotions unless he really trusts someone(which he would likely distance himself from forming connections with others after that kind of trauma), but with cassandra nova right there there was a missed opportunity for elaborating on that. for digging deep into his brain and telling why this fucked him up so bad. imo, if i were to write it, with everyone he gets close to he puts upon the expectation for himself that hes at fault for anything that happens to them. that he needs to be the savior, even in a friendship. to prove himself to be worth something. especially after a life of being convinced hes a burden by just existing as himself, he needs to have use in order to make up for the fact that hes Logan.
but whos going to save him? isnt he struggling too? whos gonna help you? looking at all the other logans across the multiverse, who is the wolverine? why do you keep falling for the same patterns no matter where you are and who you are? deadpool called sabretooth queen and she/her'd logan within like 5 seconds of eachother. that was pretty good ig
final verdict:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yknow. i think i get now the way fans reacted the way they did tho.
the other night i was rewatching the movie Hackers with my mom, saying that it was obvious the creators mustve known a lot about hacking in order to do such a good parody of it, out of love for the craft….but my knowledge of hacking is pretty minimal, so i have no actual fucking clue if that assumption is accurate or not. im just going off of a ton of references to hacking. for all i know, real hackers couldve hated this movie.
and thats how the average non comic fan saw this movie. they saw a buncha characters and references and thought ‘damn, they must really love the source material’ without knowing how much of a kick in the face it felt like to watch them get used and butchered like that.

I’ve changed my views about the jedi after reading analyses like yours, but now i’m stuck with cognitive dissonance because i love luke and mara’s relationship ans that he allowed marriage, but if the jedi’s reasons for banning marriage were correct, doesn’t that make eu luke wrong?
I've got to admit I haven't read anything with Mara, just skimmed some wiki pages. My area is the PT. That said, that just makes EU Luke a character written with different rules in mind, so to speak. Mara dates from before TPM, before it was properly established that Jedi don’t marry, even if that’s what Lucas always intended, and so their being together was not breaking any rules in the books themselves.
It's perfectly fine to enjoy the EU! It's got great stories! And if that helps, it can easily be viewed as a kind of alternate reality to what we ended getting onscreen.
The reasons the Jedi had for 'banning' marriage - and I'm not even sure it can quite be called that - were largely dependent on context: they didn't forbid romantic feelings, and from what we see they were even pretty lenient towards actual relationships. I kinda went over it here with Kanan and Hera's couple, but imo the question of marriage is first and foremost a question of commitment. Jedi are essentially already married to the Order, and it's not fair on a spouse nor is it fair to the other Jedi to divide one's duties and heart like that. But the issue wouldn't exist if there is no Order to speak of to be married to, and commitment would also be less of a problem if the two spouses both are Jedi dedicating their lives to a common goal - so in that sense, I don't think Luke and Mara's relationship is unthinkable even if the Prequels-era Jedi had very good reasons not to marry. Different situations means different ways of dealing with things. Of course, that wouldn't make Luke's new Order 'better' - just different.
There's still the issue of attachment, of course, and the EU is not always the greatest at knowing what that means. From what I know of Luke's EU family, they had their fair share of problems with that, but of course attachment is not about whether or not a relationship is committed and/or romantic, it's much deeper. Avoiding attachment is not about avoiding love, it's about learning to let go, out of love.
Now, it might very well be that Luke was written as acting out of fear of loss, possessiveness, or any of the other pitfalls of attachment in the books featuring Mara (as I said, haven't read them) and in that case, yeah, he might have been wrong. But I don't think the books meant for him to be wrong to marry, and so in those books he wasn't.
The cognitive dissonance comes from trying to reconcile stories with different authors who had different visions as one unified coherent narrative, and that's a headache waiting to happen. Just pick and choose what you're happy with. Lucas' Jedi had very good reasons for not marrying, and the EU writers' Luke just wasn't in the same context, or indeed in quite the same universe. Nbd!
I still have beef with the EU writers and I much, much, much prefer for the Jedi to be celibates when exploring their characters (so they can stand on their own and we can know their hearts, so we get some good romance-free storytelling for once, because I have views on relationships very much influenced by my own faith and the Jedi's take on those really resonate with me, etc) but there's no reason you can't enjoy both!
(Unless it's Karen Traviss' EU books lmao. She just hates the Jedi's guts.)

Who do you ship Garth with?
And alternatively, if you had to pick, which of the Titans would be most compatible with him, romantically or not?
And one last question, why do you think DC hasn’t utilized Garth to his full potential yet? I feel like the other OG Titans have had their share of spotlight, or at least mainstream stories about/centering them (Donna’s death, etc) but there isn’t really one about Garth. Why do you think that is?
Garth/Tula is my favorite ship for him, hands down. My favorite non-canon ship is Garth/Letifos! I actually find it hard to ship Garth with anyone other than his canon love interests because his story and character development is so heavily tied to being in love with Tula (and later Dolphin) lmao
Garth is most compatible with Dick. That’s actually the only Titans ship I think is even slightly possible lol. I think it’s very clear that he likes Dick the most out of the Titans and he has the closest relationship to Dick than the others. Dick is also less likely to accidentally offend Garth over something like Wally and Roy would lol (Donna also probably wouldn’t offend him but I very much think Garth only sees her as a sister)
As for why he hasn’t been utilized, I think it starts back to late Silver/early Bronze Age stories and it’s actually very simple: writers find it very hard to figure out how to include him in non-water related stories. Earlier versions of this character really only had ocean animal-based powers, and his secondary power-set of strength was covered by Wonder Girl. Aqualad is written out of the comics and only appears when the Titans have an underwater mission. I really believe the writers felt stuck with him and didn’t realize he could be useful in non-water stories.
This send Garth into the realm of “perpetual supporting character” (Aquaman also has this problem in JL comics tbh) and though his reintroduction as Tempest included a ton of new powers that didn’t limit Garth to the sea, the other OG Titans had already had their major storylines and cemented themselves in the fanbase and the writers minds. While I obviously adore Garth and his Tempest persona, I think for a lot of people they already had their favorites and didn’t pay him much attention.
I think the other issue is that as Tempest, Garth was significantly stronger than Arthur/Orin (and most of the Titans tbh), which is a really weird situation when he is NOT your main character. Orin pretty quickly gets magic powers after Garth does, without the emotional roadblocks Garth set up for himself. Even the Aquaman comics tiptoe around showcasing him too much, lest Orin look a little underwhelming.
All these things combined made N52/Rebirth have very little to go off of while skimming the wiki pages (I’m still not convinced any DC writer has read a comic before lmao) and with his tiny fanbase they probably aren’t that interested in keeping any of us happy when they can simply create new characters and hope someone else latches on to them.

If Irving, aka Phineas and Ferb's biggest fan, works as an intern for OWCA by the time Act Your Age starts, that gives me the impression that OWCA still keeps tabs on them, although I do think OWCA would get the hint they wouldn't pose a threat. On a side note, a part of me hopes the kids are aware of Perry's identity when they're young adults, considering Perry is enjoying his retirement on top of their tree for all the world to see and the fact we never see them interact in that episode.
WAIT I’VE SPENT THE LAST FEW MONTHS THINKING THAT WAS ALBERT INTERNING AT OWCA AND THIS WHOLE TIME IT’S BEEN IRVING OH MY GOD I’M SO DUMB FHDSKJAFHAK
in reference to this post
I actually just skimmed through AYA again to find Irving and I didn’t see him so I had to check the wiki, so thank you to whoever put that picture of him in AYA labeled “teenage Irving” or I genuinely would not have realized that wasn’t Albert lmao
Now that I know it’s Irving, I think that’s a really good point. I can definitely see OWCA approaching Irving of all people with this internship, if only because they know Irving would be so excited to talk about Phineas and Ferb that he would hold literally nothing back. I think it’s probably more of a formality than anything, because while it’s possible that the kids could still turn evil, it looks less and less likely as they grow up and stray further from their former enthusiastic building tendencies.
Still, I think they’d still feel better if they had someone keeping an eye on them -- someone other than Perry because as much as they respect him as an agent, if it came down to it, his loyalties would most likely lie with his family. At least while Irving can say the same, it wouldn’t prevent him from rambling to his supervisors about what they were up to.
It’s always bugged me that we really have no idea what’s up with Perry. On one hand, he could be retired and only hops back in the game because it’s his nemesis setting off the alarm. On the other, he’s still wearing that watch and takes the case without technically being asked to because it’s just implied, which almost sounds like something an agent would do -- but, again, it’s also his nemesis (and his friend), so you really just do not know.
That definitely is my favorite AYA headcanon, though. I love the idea that eventually Perry just decided to settle down with his family and enjoy himself. And once he stopped working for OWCA, there would be no reason not to tell the Flynn-Fletchers that he was a secret agent and that he essentially has the brain of a human -- though I do question how it would go over if/when Linda found out. I’ve always headcanoned that if Perry did eventually come forward as a sentient platypus, he did it when Phineas and Ferb got to high school. At that point, their lives were just too chaotic and Perry couldn’t keep up with work while still making sure he was there for the boys when they were feeling down.
I also think Perry would have been nervous about showing them after the mess that was the second dimension, but that Phineas and Ferb would have had a positive reception to it, and their biggest grievance is that they never got to build him anything for work. I think Candace would be the only one to have a problem with this, not because she’s upset that Perry’s kept this from them but because she’s been so mean to him over the years and he’s understood every single word. But Perry would assure her that it’s okay, Phineas and Ferb would assure him that it’s okay, and they’d be one big happy family. shit gets real awkward when Vanessa enters the picture though

so i’m still on my “consuming-3h-content-despite-not-playing-the-game-nor-have-any-intention-to” bullshit, and i’m really only consuming and enjoying specific content (i.e., my ship (yes singular) of choice, general no-shipping memes/incorrect quotes) but i’m reaching the bottom of the barrel now so i’m starting to dig further into the fandom, which means i end up going into content that tends to irk me, i.e. happening upon content for ships i don’t ship.
and if anyone remembers from my a/3 posts from a while back, i can get p annoyed by ships (not publicly. i just stew about it). tbh there’s not really any 3h ships i’m seeing that i’m like ANTI, mostly bc i don’t play the game so i can’t really have that strong of an opinion. i understand why ppl ship some of these ships but man i just don’t agree with them bc of my personal opinion about the units (as someone who doesn’t play the game and has only looked at the 3h wiki lmao) and/or tastes. as i said, i don’t get like ANXIOUS seeing this content like i do for some a/3 ships, but when you see something you don’t really care for consciously over and over eventually you’re like “enough. enough of this trash”. like i don’t ship teny/uki and i don’t really care about seeing it -- but i don’t enjoy having to see it all the time on my dash, you know?
the thing is it’s not even like i’m being forced against my will to see these 3h ships i don’t ship, i’m literally doing this to myself by seeking out content knowing that by going to these blogs i will also see the ships the account ships. so writing this post is a reminder to myself to just stay in my lane and don’t seek shit out past the tried-and-true sources you’ve managed to find so far. i literally don’t even play this game so i really don’t need it to become another anxiety source.
it really does suck though bc once you pore through the inital, easy-to-access layer of content you like + are also tired of creating/looking through your own original stuff for this content ... eventually you get desperate and are like “well while i know fandoms are ALWAYS a dumpster fire, surely it’s different this time right?” and so you dive into the fire and then are instantly reminded of how much fandom SUCKS when you’re just an individual consuming it (i mean it can also still suck even when you have an established group but i will always remember my time with the small par/anatural fandom back in ~2014 or so fondly. i mean we still had shit but it was a good time as i remember it. prob also bc i left it naturally i.e. my interest waned and not in a blaze of “canceled” fire).
truly a moment to make me consider leaving fandom for good but unfortunately i will always seem to hyperfixate on series and you need to satiate that fix by seeing MORE content than what’s provided in the original series, i.e. fan content. i know ppl may have beef with me using “hyperfixate” but man i really went full as/hedue brain since march 7 or so which meant i went and read/skimmed every single fic in the ao3 tag (excluding fics with ships i didn’t like but couldn’t dodge lol), and then i also read up on the entire fucking 3h game so now i know all the plot details despite only being interested in a single ship (this is an exaggeration though... i really only know AM and CF “well”, the other routes + DLC i just know roughly) ... and i’m only now starting to trickle off more than a month later with the knowledge that i most likely will get set off again soon (mainly bc i’m reaching that period for a ship where i’m like i’m kinda bored with this ship... usually doesn’t make me not ship it though esp if it’s the first active ship i had for that series bc i tend to stick with the first ship i like and actively produce content for (published or unpublished) for a series forever lmao. it’s like fucking imprinting). also almost all of my previous fandoms i went full brain power for for a set period of time and once that period of time finished, i barely consumed shit of it anymore afterwards. example, i was super into hipmaic for almost a full year but then fizzled out. vo/ltron i was into for an extended period of time since it was a in-progress series at the time, but once i quit it after season 3 i legit just didn’t care to consume shit for it anymore. after vo/ltron and before hipmaic i went and focused on my OCs, and man i actually think i was pretty anxiety-free re: creative content for a while  bc i was mostly focusing on my own stuff. i wish i could enter that mental state whenever i wanted but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that
