Do you have a starting point in being a furry?
reply/reblog/send anons if you want~ i distinctly remember what got me into drawing them and being one, so i was curious if anyone else does!
for me it was when my friend and i were in a multiplayer drawchat on an ancient website (ratemydrawings). they were a furry already and drew an anthro leg and i thought it looked cool and wanted to try drawing furries, too (it's the white thing in the middle haha)
i only have the thumbnails because the flash player on this site died a long time ago, and waybackmachine doesn't have them archived either.
i actually drew a character i had from pet society at the time~
#i should draw my chara from the new pet society#i thought it was a clone but i heard it might be the same team or something along those lines??#dont quote me on that though#its called petpals btw its for mobile tho#and afaik the only game to make coins is the racing one.....#i play it on and off#misc posts#text#old art

I got a question for any of the Jumblr who follow me. I guess it's something of a discussion topic? Help me to better understand this.
I saw the post explaining that there is no such thing as a non antisemitic conspiracy theory and it got me thinking about media representation.
Specifically the stereotype of characters who are around money a lot. Not all merchants are codes Jewish, but almost all Jewish people in modern media are depicted as being highly concerned with their personal wealth.
And specifically I'm thinking about this capitalist character named Zeki from this free to play game Palia.
He is a wealthy merchant, and all of your early game experiences with him have him shilling his products to you, at one point he makes a joke about paying one of the towns folk kids in candy to dig up the worms he sells to fishrfolk. He'll ask you to spread flyers to people for his underground buisness. And while he claims his products aren't illegal, I get the feeling he's tax dodging.
Other than being a seedy merchant who always has an eye on his coin pouch, nothing else stands out about him. He's friendly enough but because he's putting on a good public face and that's just good for buisness.
I guess my question/issue here is that Zeki is the ONLY Grimalkin we get to personally encounter so far. So he's like... an ambassador for his race? Currently the players AFAIK can't leave the immediate area. So now we kind of have this unconscious expectation that Grimalkins are merchants. Whether intended or not, our only other experience with Grimalkins are secondhand stories and a series of journals from a Grimalkin pirate that you can find.
Not really sure what my point is here but with recent posts on my mind and understanding that people are still killing Jewish people for dumb shit like blood libel and stupid conspiracy theories its just led me to be a bit more critical of some character tropes?
I don't think Zeki's design is malicious,, but im a goyim trying to listen and learn and it just feels.... off that they made this one non elf character the proprietor of the general store with a seedy after dark, tax dodging buisness, who always is trying to sell you something....I mean it's not too far of a logic leap to imagine people making stereotypical jokes that he must be Jewish because he's a merchant?
Idk. Its probably just my internalized antisemitism materializing and making something out of nothing in an attempt to "be better"
When really I could be committing Jewish holidays to memory to make it easier to not bother them during family stuff.
#jumblr#jewish#zeki#palia#i swear im not trying to cause a problem i just Noticed A Thing and wanted to ask people with actual real life experience about this#because its so easy to fall into believing a stereotype and not even know it#so without even realizing it youre actively spreading harmful or at the very least tiresome rhetoruc

Quinn wasn’t that important, she had been talked about a bit on like tumblrinaction (it was (is?) a subreddit about making fun ‘SJW’ stuff and general like cringe type stuff on tumblr) before about some stuff to do with faking things or something and general SJW vs anti-SJW stuff, but she wasn’t a major thing before gamergate no.
Before it became a gamergate thing it was just a sort of ‘look at this drama involving hypocritical SJWs’ type of thing. As others have said it wasn’t just cheating it was also emotional abuse and stuff. There was a big streisand effect thing where a bunch of places deleted everything about it except for tumblrinaction (and i think maybe one of the offbrand chans? 8chan maybe? 4chan was also deleting stuff iirc). Eventually it was drowning out everything on tumblrinaction too so a new subreddit called kotakuinaction was created to be dedicated to it.
If it wasn’t for all the places deleting everything i doubt it would have blown up. It was kind of a spark that lit the pre existing kindle (both to do with general games journalism stuff of which this was meant to be an example, and general SJW vs anti-SJW stuff) thing combined with streisand effect. There was also a thing of a bunch of games journalism outlets simultaneously writing articles about it or something which fueled the fire. Eventually people focused in on the specific alleged nepotism stuff with games journalism thing and the people who cared about the abuse stuff kind of wandered off. And then it was kinda self sustaining with harassment and death threats and misrepresentations making people more angry and so on and so forth. Eventually a bunch of the people who actually cared about games journalism stuff (e.g. totalbiscuit) basically got their demands met with like disclaimers about ads and free swag and whatnot becoming more standard and that combined with the whole thing being toxic meant you had like, only the most diehard people still bothering with it and all the even semi reasonable people stopped touching it.
anita sarkeesian was a thing from before (part of the kindling that got lit if you like) although she also got embroiled afterwards once people picked sides and stuff. There was also brianna wu who i can’t remember how she came to be involved but was a big thing at the time too and came after it had already gotten heated. Her, quinn and sarkeesian were like the big three faces on the anti-GG side IIRC.
It being also the name for reproducitve worker ants is a coincidence which some people used as a euphemism to not come up in searches because it was so toxic that if you mentioned it by name people would come in and start arguing about it and ruin your comment section. (i first saw that euphemism on SSC but i don’t know if it was used elsewhere).
The guy who played jayne in firefly is adam baldwin it seems? in a weird turn of events he’s actually the one who coined the term gamergate and was on the pro gamergate side early on.
oh yeah also in the ‘people picking their sides and making battle lines’ thing almost all of the media outlets either ignored it or were on the anti-GG side, and brietbart saw an opportunity to capitalize by being basically the only one on the pro-GG side. Milo yiannopolus basically made his career over it AFAIK, i’d never heard of him before gamergate anyway. And he certainly didn’t care about games journalism stuff beforehand or whatever, IIRC he even insulted gamers, but because he was one of the only semi mainstream people on their side people put up with it. I remember a lot of ‘man these guys are kinda shitty, but beggars can’t really be choosers when it comes to allies here’ about milo/ brietbart. And then there was some conversion happening where brietbart etc. radicalized gamergaters a bit i think. I don’t remember race stuff coming up much before, it was thought of as ‘gender wars’ rather than more general ‘culture wars’ in the early days from what i remember.
If you want to watch some time capsule type stuff that might give you a bit of an overview, there’s the ‘david pakman show’ on youtube where this guy who wasn’t really involved but wanted to know wtf was going on interviewed people on both sides a bunch and you can see what people on each side were saying at the time.
Overall i would say while gamergate wasn’t the CAUSE of the stuff people say it’s the cause of over the next however many years, i think it was sort of a canary in the coal mine type of thing where both gamergate and the other culture war stuff from later stem from the same root.
Every so often someone makes a (variably serious) post about how gamergate explains the last decade of politics or whatever and I feel like I should actually try to figure out what it was beyond a vague outline, but I also have this incredibly strong intuition that just asking on any public social media might as well be pouring chum into a shark tank. So.
