so, first of all yes, absolutely doctors are human beings and therfore can be and very much are frequently wrong. which is why areas like psychology and mental health are constantly evolving fields where new information is being proposed, discussed, challenged, and studied constantly. literally no one said otherwise, except ur reactionary defensiveness who inserted that into the conversation. everyone is capable of being wrong and thats literally the entire point secondly, the middle part of that statement is just patently and provably false. there is constant deep criticism of the medical industry in the us, fatphobia is being discussed and challanged now more than ever and new studies are being done that disprove previous junk science and expose bad faith studies done by the diet industry every year. maybe if u actually cared about fat people and were involved in fat activism and werent just using fatness as a prop for ur bad faith argument u'd very much know and see that. so there is really no point to make up that lie other than to develop ur own victim narrative where for some reason no one cares about any other issues and any criticism that u take personally is just bigotry and lastly, ur gonna have to define "study" because nowhere in here did i say the word study. i said hyperfixations and special interests. u inserted the word study. so if ur definition of "studying" something is the exact same as hyperfixating or having a special interest, which is what we're actually talking about here and is a process where u are self selecting information to consume with little to no access to resources u dont/cant know exist with absolutely zero oversight or cross checking and no one to challange any potential biases that u arent even aware ur being influenced by then sorry but no u are not at all an expert or an authority on anything and u are not qualified to give people medical advice and could very potentially be doing real world harm to people by spreading potentially dangerous and deadly misinformation but if we're defining study as in actual genuine education in a field, then nowhere does it say that autistic and adhd people cannot be qualified experts in their chosen fields. absolutely nowhere does anything imply that people with genuine education, research backgrounds, years of fieldwork and genuine study where they are given and exposed to new information they could have never known on their own and have their views and biases challanged and checked against others with a wide range of backgrounds, are somehow unqualified. because there not, they absolutely are qualified. there are tons and tons of brilliant nuerodivergent people who are experts in their field because they took years to learn and understand it. they put in genuine work and time and a tremendous amount of energy to gain the knowelge and understanding they have and they deserve every ounce of respect and credit for that
but the actual point here is that there is knowelge that u cannot gain simply by googling. there are things u cannot fully contextually understand by reading a wikipedia article. simply having autism or adhd does not *on its own* devoid of any other qualifications make u an expert on any given topic. that is not how brains or any human being works. and if hearing someone say that just because u put time and effort and energy into something does not mean u cant still be very deeply wrong about it makes u cry ableism then u've got way bigger problems and should maybe think about not responding to posts that upset u with blatently false information and bad faith defensiveness
unpopular hard truth time but having a special interest in something doesnt actually make u a qualified expert or mean u know what ur talking about
being autistic or having adhd doesnt automatically make u a savant genius and just because uve hyper fixated on a topic doesnt mean u understand it or are an authority on it
and I dont mean about media idc about blorbo from ur shows I mean people who say "personality disorders are my special interest so I know everything about them" "mental health is my special interest so what I'm saying is correct" "true crime is my special interest so I'm qualified to give my opinion on this"
u can have a lot of information on a subject and still be wrong. u can spend hundreds of hours researching and reading about something and still not understand or misunderstand it
hyperfixating on something or having it be ur special interest does not make u an expert on it. u can still very much be wrong. especially on topics that are very complex and require lots and lots of interpersonal experience and nuanced research to understand and have lots of readily available misinfo and therefore can't just be perfectly understood by u sitting alone in ur bedroom reading 500 articles about it
#jack.speaks#some people feel targeted and then get way too in their feelings and feel the need to put words in other peoples mouths#and i really fkn hate that#engage with what i actually said or say nothing at all#because i hate having to argue with fake lies people make up and then accuse me of saying#also really hilarious that u chose to use fatness as a gotcha#to the blog of a fat man who has been talking about and participating in fat activism and sharing anti-fatphobia science#and actual studies and meta data that support that fatphobia is junk science#for well into a decade now#fat people have been screaming about this shit for over a decade if u were actually invested enough to listen#and not just trying to use us as a prop
