#Repostober Day 5: INVADERSTUCK! YAY!
Here's a good chunk of my homestuck sprite edits of the Invader Zim characters I wanted to include in a sburb/homestuck au :-) I have godtiers and trickster mode edits for them as well but that'll make this post Even Longer so maybe I'll make it a part 2 for tomorrow!!
Dib, Gaz, Gretchen, Tak, Skoodge, and Zim are the players in this session while Gir, Mimi, Minimoose, Recap Kid, Keef, and a never decided 6th character were destined to be the sprites, like so:
I went so far as to try making this a full fledged mspfa comic, tho that ended pretty quickly bc I was a busy high schooler at the time haha. You can still read it here if you wanna tho!
I still like the concept a lot, I had a lot of dramatic stakes and weird high concepts that I found hard to express as a teen
#blood#invader zim#invaderstuck#dib membrane#gaz membrane#gretchen invader zim#zim#tak invader zim#skoodge#gir#mimi invader zim#minimoose#recap kid#keef#homestuck au#sburb au#thefinearts#repostober#ah god theres so many taggssssss on this one

Another thing to love about “Tak, the Hideous New Girl” was
Every one of the core main characters playing an equally necessary and coordinated role in saving the Earth,
Zim leading Tak and Mimi away from the magma pump as a diversion,
allowing Dib (who would have been bodied had he tried to square with them head-on) to single handedly shut down the building before the planet was irreversibly cleaned out.
Meanwhile Gaz remains at the base in order to utilize GIR (who if left alone is not able to keep himself on task or come up with a smart way to help) as a way to remotely sabotage Tak,
Which allowed Zim (who was almost certainly going to lose that aerial fight otherwise, not up for debate) to deal the finishing blow and give Tak the boot.
If any one of them had stood by or failed in what part they decided to play, this entire thing would have been a bust, and Tak’s plan would have succeeded. It elevates the episode by involving the whole main character group successfully working together to accomplish something AND it demonstrates just how much of a threat Tak herself was that this was what was needed to take her down. Absolutely season finale worthy.

Fandom: Invader Zim
Character: Tak and Gaz Membrane (aged up)
Pairing: Romantic-Rivalry
Type of Fic: Concept
(Optional) Other info I should know: Gender-neutral human reader
Okay! I'm utilizing the college AU I set up in the Gaz concept for this. Tak returns to Earth for revenge on Zim... only to meet you and Gaz again.
Sorry it isn't that good... I ran out of ideas :(
Yandere! Tak vs Gaz Concept
Pairing: Romantic - Rivalry
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Jealousy, Stalking, Overprotective behavior, Kidnapping, Isolation, Dubious relationship.
You vaguely remember Tak from when you were young.
You had been friends with Gaz and Dib in school and were aware of the issues involving Zim.
However, like Gaz, you knew Zim wasn't a big issue.
If any Irken was, it was Tak.
Yet even then she was always more focused on getting revenge against Zim.
You never thought you'd see Tak again.
Years have passed since then... You even helped Dib and Gaz save the Earth from a Florpus Hole.
Now you're all in college, occasionally still having to tolerate Zim's stupid little plans.
Dib went into studying astrology and engineering for his major.
Gaz went into coding and video game development.
Meanwhile you're doing your own major with Gaz as your roommate.
You barely even thought of Tak, too focused on school and keeping Zim in check.
That is until you heard of news from Dib.
Turns out, somehow, Tak managed to find her way back to Earth to finish what she started.
Considering how Zim was still on Earth, it's expected you'd be dragged into Tak's return.
After all, the last thing you need is two Irkens fighting and causing chaos in the process while you study.
Tak is no longer here to destroy Earth... for the most part.
She mostly wants revenge on Zim, especially since he sent The Tallest into a Florpus Hole.
However, while Tak tracks down Zim...
She meets you, Dib, and Gaz again.
Ironically I feel Tak and Gaz have similar characters to one another.
Tak's disguise is even a goth girl, still just as advanced as it was years ago.
She probably sneaks into your college to spy on you since she recalls you and your friends dealing with Zim constantly.
Although, it appears she soon finds a new target to hunt the longer she's on Earth.
Gaz, as your roommate, is no doubt going to notice if Tak sniffs around somewhere she isn't supposed to.
Gaz has cared about you since elementary, she's getting quite tired of having to deal with supernatural threats hunting you or Dib down.
She's probably quite tired of Irkens as a whole by this point.
She already has to deal with Dib being obsessed with exposing Zim... even in college.
Now she soon realizes she has to deal with the opposite.
An Irken is obsessed with her roommate...
Honestly, it's pissing Gaz off.
Tak originally stalks you with the intention of getting info out of you.
You're with those Membrane humans, you should know about her target...
Yet Gaz keeps stepping in, eyes narrowed in a glare each time she sees Tak or MiMi.
Gaz already doesn't mess around when it comes to you.
You are either her crush... or just outright dating while in college.
Tak's just going to ruin everything in Gaz's eyes.
Especially if Gaz only recently got you to be hers.
Gaz, like any Membrane, has planned meticulously to make you hers.
She's lucky to be your roommate and your girlfriend.
She finally has you as hers... She's even gotten rid of people for you.
Yet now... Now Tak has decided she needs you?
These two are definitely fighting.
Tak's obsession may start as just needing info... but she realizes you're an... interesting human.
She has to blend in with the humans anyways...
Might as well make friends.
This often leads to Gaz and Tak confronting one another.
Tak still has little knowledge on human relationships.
She probably doesn't quite understand what's between you and Gaz.
Girlfriend...? Is it a special rank between humans?
Irkens don't really know how to show human love.
Or just... love.
To Tak, she just feels like she wants to claim/conquer you, since Irkens are used to that.
Is that what Gaz means when she says you're partners?
Has she... conquered you?
...
For some reason that makes Tak feel ill and a bit envious.
How strange.
So... Overall I feel the dynamic would be this...
Gaz is your overprotective girlfriend who is quite tired of aliens ruining her personal relationships...
While Tak wants to take you from Gaz in an attempt to under her strange fixation over you.
Tensions are high... you can sense it.
Gaz is rarely able to focus on her work for school.
She's also around you more often, usually on edge as she grumbles about Tak.
Tak is often either using MiMi to stalk you or sneaking into your classes to see you.
She feels oddly warm around you even if she sees most humans disgusting...
Maybe she's sick.
I can see Gaz spraying Tak with water or scaring off MiMi to keep the Irken away.
It's all an annoyance to Gaz.
Meanwhile, Tak simply sees it as a new goal while she tracks Zim.
Gaz is genuinely trying to protect you while Tak sees this as a game.
Gaz probably tries to keep you in your dorm to discourage Tak.
Yet if Tak tried to take you... Gaz is no doubt immediately tracking where you went with help from Dib.
I can sort of see things coming to a head where Gaz can't take it anymore and decides to try lethal force.
Not the first time she's done it... people are scared of her for a reason on campus....
Tak might try also since Irken have decent combat skills and weaponry.
Can I see them killing one another?
Yes.
Gaz may have more of an advantage due to Dib though.
Maybe Zim too, since Zim no doubt wants Tak gone.
Tak's smart though... she's going to wait things out and strike when no one's aware.
Eventually Tak will have you to toy with...
Irkens naturally have a need to conquer.
Tak's going to try and take you... Even if she has to kill your precious humans...
Gaz feels a similar way... She refuses to let Tak ruin everything.
One way or another, someone's ending up dead...
Leaving you to end up trapped one way or another, as this rivalry would also reveal Gaz's crimes to you.

Tak and Dib being friend? I kinda like that them get along because their 'hate' on Zim and bully Zim together sometimes
uuuuuuuuuuuh... yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaah....
Tak after her return to Earth tried to arrange another plan, using and deceiving Dib first...
but Zim didn’t like it and they often quarreled with each other (and continue to quarrel bc Zim is in jealously for Dib)
in any case after Tak was exposed she decided to get along on this planet and also became friends with the Membrane family (but not with Zim cuz he doesn't trust her)
Dib often communicates with Tak discussing Zim from his interest to get to know him better and Tak also teaches Dib Irken language and grammar, also they love sometimes to work with Irkens technology and improving the space technology while Zim is trying to take Dib's attention to himself (bc of this fact most often Tak working with technology with Gaz than Dib)
Tak often tries to communicate with Dib in order to get to know Gaz and Professor Membrane better, and she also interested in his relationship with Zim bc she has never seen Zim so actively interact with somebody before and she found it educational for herself and as part of the study of “defective" irkens and sometimes asks for help in some “Earth” things
Simply: Tak for Dib and Dib for Tak is like a good friend and interlocutor with a good mind
one problem Tak didn't interested in paranormal things unlike Zim where her with Dib relationship are limited.
also Dib likes Mimi and Zim jealous him even to this lol

INVADER ZIM HEADCANONS BECAUSE. YAAAYYYYY
!! some zadr !!
Main characters:
-Irken show affection by entangling their antenna together. So Zim wraps his antenna around Dibs hair spike
-Zim shoplifts candy from the store (and Dibs fridge) other times he gets Gir to steal stuff
-Once Dib ate cup noodles for 3 weeks straight. He hasn't done it since
-Dib still has the snarl beast
-He's also very good at drawing, most of his drawings being of him and Zim
-Dib probably gets dizzy when he stands up too fast
-Gaz and Tak like playing games together, Tak is super bad at them though
-Gaz is really into robotics, that's why Professor Membrane doesn't pressure her into science like he does with Dib. In fact she programmed her "security" plushies all by herself
-Gaz HAS and WILL doxx people
-Gir and MiMi are very lady and the tramp coded
-Gir would be best friends with Jenny Wakeman
-Gir CONSTANTLY steals drinks, not only from people he knows either. Like in a restaurant he will just take a big sip of someones drink and walk away
Other characters:
-Zita is a theater kid, she puts the most effort in school plays compared to everyone else
-Carl has literally anything and everything in his beanie. Need a spare pencil? He's got it. Need a notebook? It's in there. Need a bag of chips? You know he has it. But he won't ever give it to you. Like Pinkie Pie except Carl isn't helpful
-Gretchen actually can tell really good jokes, she just doesn't tell them
-Jessica and Letty are lesbian I swear to god they are
-Poonchy is a lot like Tobias from the amazing world of gumball except maybe a little less mean
-Mr. Elliot is Ms. Bitters son, he likes being around her so he got the same job as her (despite her protests)
-Mr. Dwicky probably killed that guy in the vents. Among us imposter ass
-Miyuki and Sporks tallest uniforms seem to be slightly different than Red and Purples, the slight adjustments are there to prevent Zims monsters from eating them
General:
-Hugs from behind are very beloved since you're basically hugging their PAK which is like, their everything
-Irken relationships are heavily looked down upon until they are officialized
-Tallest DNA is used for reproduction by being put in a lil tube until a smeet develops
-Tallest colors are passed down (I don't reaaally headcanon this but I think it's a cute idea)
(Not super invader zim related, but it's one of my favorite headcanons)
-Alien hominid landed on earth after the Irken empire took over his planet. He really hates Zim
(I DON'T KNOW A LOT ABOUT ALIEN HOMINID so like, sorry if I'm ignoring already established lore idk)
#invader zim#invader zim headcanon#headcanons#not tagging every character sorry! i am NOT doing that man#sorry this took literally so long to type out i had to remember a lot of them#i wish i had more headcanons for the main cast... ill think of some more eventually#probably after i finish reading all the comics#ALSO??? i literally cannot find the 4th deluxe edition comic anywhere. i have the first one right#i found 2 3 and 5 online#like for purchase#but 4 is nowhere to be seen??#god forbid i wanna complete a book series man#i already have all the comics um... legally obtained online#but i just want it physically to have it around. i like collecting yknow#sorry i literally talk so much SHUT UUUPPPPP#do i add my talking tag.... yea#shut up hazel#oh shit i forgot#nickelodeon#MY PHONE IS LAGGING HAHAJSJJS OKAY BYE

Invader Zim x Treasure Planet AU because the mental illness has taken over
i thought of this a few hours ago so it’s not that layed out but basicallyyy
dib grew up with the same sort of obsession he had with thē paranormal but instead it’s treasure planet/pirate shenanigans
gaz = delbert | n the reason she wanted to go is cus she thought it would be cool (and dib bribed her with games)
membrane = sarah | instead of delbert being the one to fund the trip membrane is and it takes a LOT of convincing from dib n gaz
amelia = tak
arrow = mimi (?)
ben = skoodge | instead of the memory chip being damaged it’s the pak itself
morphe = gir
flint = the tallests | basically the empire is just flint n his crew
scroop = lard nar with the rest of the crew being the resistys
silver = zim

Squee vs an army of Irkens.
*Links to previous and next chapters in reblog*
--
The Greatest in the Galaxy Part 16
“What was all that commotion!” Red demands as he and Purple rush through the halls of the Irken tower.
“You made us get off our couch,” Purple whines.
“S-sirs,” an Irken soldier squeaks and many other soldiers jump out of their way as they burst into Rory’s room.
“Ror-what happened to the tower!” Red exclaims as he sees the opposite wall is completely gone.
Buildings quake and glass trembles as a giant robot walks through the city. It’s taller than most of the skyscrapers and made of seamless metal that glitters in the sunlight. It’s humanoid in form with two arms, two legs, and a head that has two round, glowing eyes and a rectangular shape for a mouth. One step covers a whole city block.
Inside its head is the control room. Consoles line both side walls and there’s another set in the middle. At the front of the room is a large display showing the view from the robot’s eyes. At the back is an elevator that opens up for Zim and Rory and his SIR units.
“This is amazing!” Zim cheers as he prances excitedly through the control room. “How did you find this, Kio?”
“These mechs are used for one of the few team games in the competition,” Kio explains, “I’ve only ever seen them used once. Every member of the team is required to pilot it.”
She motions to Dib and Tak at two of the middle consoles. “Dib is controlling the legs and Tak is controlling the arms.” She points to Pepito and Gaz at either side console. “Pepito and Gaz are on weapons. I’m controlling the torso and head, but I’d be willing to relinquish the head to you, Zim, if you’re willing.”
“Yes,” he demands and takes the third middle console while Kio remains at the fourth.
“There’s also a radar that I’m saving for Squee,” she adds.
“What should I do?” Rory asks.
“Your part in this plan has yet to come, Prince,” Kio replies, “you may sit and wait.”
Rory sits on a bench at the back of the room next to Shmoopy, who waves at him.
“Now that we’ve got the robot, Squee can meet back up with us, right?” Pepito asks.
“Yes,” Zim nods, “I’ll tell Gir to bring him to us.”
“I’ll tell Mimi too,” Tak adds, “since she’s more likely to do it.”
“You know, I don’t think I’ve heard an explosion for a while,” Dib muses, “I wonder how Squee’s doing.”
Meanwhile, on Earth, Johnny, Devi, Tenna, Skoodge, Colton, Carmen, and Maddie watch the television tensely. On the screen, they can see an aerial view of a street clogged with fully-armoured Irken soldiers. And in the middle of the army is Squee and Nimbel.
The army warily keep their distance from the pair, laser rifles primed and ready to fire. Squee and Nimbel stand back to back glaring at their assailants.
Squee sighs heavily as he removes his sunglasses, broken from their fall from the building, and tosses them aside.
“Can’t you, you know, blow them up or something?” Nimbel asks quietly.
“I can’t,” Squee replies, “they’re too far. Stupid Zinather had to go and figure out my limitations on galactic TV. Stupid freekin five feet...”
“And anyway,” he adds, “I’ve been blowing stuff up all afternoon and I haven’t eaten since breakfast, so I’m starting to feel pretty drained.”
“So you’re saying we’re screwed,” Nimbel clarifies.
“Yeah, we’re screwed.”
As if sensing their weakness, the Irkens press in a little more.
“This is all my fault,” Nimbel sighs, “I should’ve listened to you. I wouldn’t blame you if you abandoned me.”
“It’s tempting,” Squee admits.
“What?” she snaps, “you mean you can actually escape?”
“Well...”
“So why don’t you?”
“I find myself...conflicted...”
“Look, if you have some kind of escape plan, you should implement it,” Nimbel insists, “better that one of us survives than neither of us.”
“Yeah,” Squee sighs with defeat. “Alright.”
With a smooth, swift movement, Squee reaches into his sweater, pulls out a disc-like device, and slaps it onto Nimbel’s back. Before she can react, the disc folds outwards, attaching itself to her back with spider-like appendages as small rockets extend out.
“Wait, no!” she shouts as the rockets fire and she blasts off into the sky, Squee staring after her forlornly. The Irkens fire at her but she flies away too quickly and soon she disappears into the distance.
“Forget her!” an Irken captain barks and nods at Squee. “It’s him we want.”
Squee groans and rubs his head. “I blame Dib for making me heroic.”
“Give up quietly, Earthanoid,” the captain demands, “we know all about your mind powers. As long as we stay five feet away from you, you can’t hurt us.”
“Eh, truth be told, I couldn’t hurt you even if you were within five feet,” Squee shrugs, “I’m starting to get a real bad migraine.”
“Then you surrender.”
“Not a chance.”
“Then you die.”
“Also no.”
“Well, you have no hope of defeating us,” the captain points out incredulously. “Not without your mind powers.”
“My ‘mind powers’ aren’t my only weapon in my arsenal,” Squee replies, “sometimes, it’s best to go back to the basics.”
The Irkens ready their rifles as Squee reaches around his back. He grips the handles of two large knives and whips them out of their holsters.
“Fire!” the captain barks.
The soldiers fire their laser rifles but Squee’s no longer where he was standing. Faster than the blink of an eye, he’s on top of the captain, driving his blades through his helmet and into the Irken’s skull.
Before the body can even hit the ground, Squee slices his knives through the two adjacent Irkens’ necks and dives deeper into the group.
Back at the giant mech, an alert suddenly sounds from Kio’s tablet and she looks at it with surprise. “It’s Squee’s emergency escape plan.”
“What?” Pepito questions.
“It’s a mini jetpack I gave to him with his grappling cables, in case he had to make a quick getaway,” she explains, “he’ll be coming to us right away. Everyone turn right.”
Levers are pulled as the robot stops and turns right. In the distance they see something flying through the sky, quickly getting closer.
“Tak, can you catch him?” Kio asks.
“No problem,” Tak replies and works a joystick to lift the mech’s right hand and catch the flying object.
“Oof, that sounded painful,” Gaz comments at the loud bang that echoed from the hand.
“Transport him to the control room,” Kio orders.
“Already on it,” Tak replies as she pushes a couple buttons. A few seconds later the elevator opens to Nimbel, groaning and sprawled out on the floor.
“What!” everyone exclaims.
Nimbel flinches as they point their weapons at her.
“You!” Zim snaps, “you’re that Swif! What was your name? Bittle?”
“Nimbel,” she replies drily.
“Whatever.”
“What are you doing here?” Pepito demands, “where’s Squee?”
“He saved me!” Nimbel exclaims, “there were Irkens and we were gonna be captured and he put this jetpack thing on my back and-.”
“Squee’s been caught?” Dib exclaims.
“I-I don’t know,” she admits, “but they were definitely getting ready to attack.”
“Where is he?” Zim asks.
“I...don’t know,” Nimbel replies as she looks around at the room, suddenly noticing where she is. “I’m not even sure where I am.”
“We need a TV,” Zim orders.
“Does this thing have a TV on it?” Gaz asks.
“No, but we can use my tablet,” Kio replies as she detaches it from her belt and stands it up on the middle console. Everybody crowds together as she opens up the competition channel on it.
On screen, they see the cam-bot looking around frantically, but what it’s looking for is unclear. All they see is pink blood splattering uncontrollably as rifles are fired and Irkens cry out with anger or pain.
“What’s going on?” Gaz questions.
“This is terrible camera work,” Dib remarks.
“Irkens are being massacred!” Rory exclaims.
“Where’s Squee?” Pepito asks.
“I think...I think he’s there,” Zim replies, pointing at the screen as something too fast for the cam-bot to see slices a soldier’s neck.
Squee moves quickly and nimbly through the group, like a snake through grass. He swings his blades all around, each strike a fatal blow to every Irken he hits, as if they weren’t wearing armour at all, leaving pink blood and collapsing bodies in his path.
The remaining Irkens scream for his death. They fire their rifles in his general direction but can’t get a direct hit. He moves too quickly for them to aim.
“Evasive maneuvers!” one of the soldiers barks. All of their PAKs open up, releasing their spider legs that lift them up about seven feet into the air. Squee finally skids to a stop, panting slightly. Parts of his clothes have been singed where the laser fire grazed him.
“Not so tough now, are ya?” another soldier taunts. But as he laughs, Squee throws a smiley bomb at him. It blows up just in front of his face, taking out a couple of nearby Irkens in the blast.
“Fire!” another soldier orders and the others resume firing their rifles. Squee dances around the laser fire, narrowly dodging as he tosses up more smiley bombs, blowing up small groups of soldiers.
“He is still heavily outnumbered!” a soldier points out. “Box him in!”
The Irkens use their spider legs to keep Squee trapped in a circle. With less space to move, it gets harder for him dodge, and the lasers graze him closer and closer. He cries out in pain as they slice through the sides of his arms and legs.
“Squee!” his friends exclaim.
Squee growls angrily as purple-tinted smoke starts rising from his body.
“Fall back, fall back!” a soldier demands but it’s too late. Squee explodes, destroying the whole army of Irkens and nearly two city blocks. The only one who escapes is the cam-bot, who retreated just in time.
“Where’s Squee?” Pepito asks frantically. On screen, all they can see is dark smoke engulfing the streets. “Is he okay? What happened?”
Nobody can answer as they watch with worry. Then the cam-bot flinches as something flies by and grabs it.
Gir’s face suddenly takes up the whole screen as he smiles and shouts, “helloooo, TV land!”
In his other hand, he’s holding Squee’s right arm while Squee’s left arm is held by Mimi. Both robots fly him through the sky as Minimoose follows.
“You guys really like to cut it close,” Squee grunts exhaustedly.
His friends all sigh with relief.
“Gir finally found him,” Zim says.
“You mean Mimi found him,” Tak argues.
“They’ll catch up soon,” Kio states, “let’s keep moving.”
Everyone returns back to their post and the mech continues stomping through the city.

War on Love (discontinued fic)
Plot Synopsis
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
Content warnings for: lots of death, attempted, actual murder, mentions of contemplating suicide, trauma, depression
For individual character analysis, writer commentary, themes, etc. please see the masterpost with appropriate links here.
WoL has roughly 53k worth of unpublished, written words, while it's previously unannounced sequel has the first 4 chapters finished and written, which turns out to be about 25k words.
So to start with, for those who need a refresher, here's a REALLY BRIEF summary of the currently published chapters of WoL, condensed to the bare minimum because otherwise it'd be so long it'd need its own post:
Summary
Gaz (12) goes with Dib (14) to investigate on a few of his missions. Zim discovers his mission and he himself are just a joke to the Tallest, getting the truth from Skoodge. Tak appears on Earth with a damaged MiMi, intent on vengeance against everyone and anyone who played the slightest part in her previous downfall on Earth. (Morgan) Dwicky returns to Earth, intent on saving his Plookesian comrades from death-by-space-dementia-equivalent, called Degradation, selling his servitude to Zim in exchange for help.
Through a series of danger and chaos, Zim, Gaz, and Dib end up allying to defeat Tak and keep her from killing them/destroying the Earth. Gaz obtains blackmail of Zim without his disguise. She uses the threat of its publication against Zim, and its destruction against Dib, to maintain a tenuous peace. Dwicky is enlisted to act as their counselor/chaperon/plausible excuse for the Membrane's to be running all across the country/missing school, as well as offering his services as an arm's dealer and general muscle-bodyguard-space-murderer-things. Zim agrees to hold the Plookesians hostage in a suspension pod until Dwicky finishes helping them with Tak. Dib distances his investigation from the Swollen Eyeball Network publicly, for the sake of the mission, enraging its members. Where we last left off, Zim's initial antagonism was beginning to turn into admiration towards her practical, ruthless nature, which differs from her extremely moralistic sibling.
Tak, after escaping from Zim's brief capture via MiMi's aid, loses her SIR unit when she is 'rescued' by transients, causing MiMi to lose track of her. Assumed homeless/transient, she eventually engenders empathy from a similarly misfortunate human, Peter. Eventually, upon regaining her memory, and unable to locate MiMi, Tak blackmails Peter into becoming her new sidekick. She promises him that she'll use her technology to fix Peter's younger brother, Michael, whom was injured in a violent street brawl, in exchange for his 'loyal' servitude. It is unclear if Michael will ever wake up, or if his neurological damage is permanent.
Additional side characters include a psychic, Rita, and her formerly military wife, Myra, whom the Membranes encounter during Dib's investigation into Rita's authenticity. Rita warns the Membrane's of approaching imminent danger, as well as hints towards knowing a 'secret' of Gaz's that freaks the younger Membrane out. Rita and Myra later enlist the help of an old soldier friend, Donovan, to help track them down and keep an eye on them. All three are semi-retired members of the SEN. Donovan's efforts are aided by his adopted and technologically savvy son, Brian. Raine, formerly Myra and Donovan's military superior, is called in by Donovan for additional backup.
Continuation
For easiest reading, I'm going to summarize the direction of the plot, and then go into the details of how the story was going to play out.
The Rest of the Story Summary
Essentially, the main theme of WoL was the different ways each character finds love and affection, the different forms it comes in, and the ways in which that love uniquely ends up fucking over each and every one of them. As stated early on, in Chapter 1's introductory pages:
The general plot is that all the OC's and the main band of Dib, Gaz, Zim, and Dwicky all team up to face Tak. Meanwhile, Tak develops a really toxic, kind of sick attachment to Peter. His mutual attraction and terror of her continues to fuel the complicated nature of their relationship throughout the story. Now with a base, Tak begins stealing neighborhood pets and mutating them into monstrous, eyeless creatures referred to as Hounds. They're roughly the size of a Volkswagen Beetle, but they're blind, relying on smell and sound to to pinpoint their targets. She begins developing these creatures while also continuing with killings on her hitlist.
Zim, Dwicky, Gaz, Dib, and the OC gang all chase Tak across the city, foiling her smaller plans and tracking her ongoing murders. They discover prototypes of the Hounds, but are unsure of what the goal is, assuming she plans to use the Hounds as some sort of crude assassination method. The adults all develop a sense of familial, usually paternal obligation towards the Membranes, and even Zim. Initially, they bristle at the perceived threat to their independence, but eventually warm to it in their own ways. Dwicky and Donovan in particular butt heads over their methods of 'parenting,' with Donovan furious at how much he danger he allows the Membrane's to get in, and Dwicky fighting against the developing familial relationship/unintended bonds he's forming with the youths he's come to be in charge of.
Tak begins to develop a strange, toxic relationship with Peter that neither party understands nor knows how to appropriately manage.
Things take a more dramatic turn for Peter when Tak announces she's aware of his infatuation, reminding him that she is not human, and incapable of reciprocating. Furthermore, she expects that his feelings will not make him less competent, and warns him not to slip into complacency.
In spite of her warnings, their partnership grows oddly affectionate, and Tak begins to loosen up, engaging in some back-and-forth and being more lenient with her orders and his tendency to be so mouthy.
Things escalate the more Tak refines her Hounds, until eventually, this little number from Ch 1 becomes relevant again:
Zim, Gaz, Dib, Dwicky, and Co. manage to locate the warehouse Tak was using to develop her Hounds on a larger scale. Unfortunately, she escapes, using the freed Hounds as a distraction. Cornered and separated, Zim and Dib are stuck in the warehouse, with Gaz and Dwicky fleeing together. During this scuffle, Gaz's secret is at last revealed: Gaz is, and has always been, partially blind. It's why she squints so much. It's the secret Rita eluded to, and one Dib has several times as well, adding cause for his protectiveness. She uses contacts developed by her father to aid in her vision, but unfortunately, during the fight, they are knocked out of her eyes, leaving her incredibly vulnerable.
Gaz and Dwicky end up hiding out in a diner.
Unfortunately for them, Tak finds them. While she cares little for Dwicky, he stands in her way. He declines her bribes, and ultimately, for his efforts, is killed, making him the first death of WoL.
That does in fact mean Dwicky, from the grave, was the chapter 1 first-person narrator.
The rest of the gang arrives too late to save him, but their intervention does give Dwicky enough time to say goodbye to 'his kids'.
Traumatized by their vulnerability, the loss of their preferred paternal figure, and death conceptually, deal with the fallout. Since Dib's uninjured, it's his turn to deal with the logistics while Gaz and Zim hide from the authorities that are (naturally) involved in the mysterious homicide of a man who's been missing for 5 years, just to show up dead in a pub.
Gaz and Zim discuss several heavy topics at length, one of which is Dwicky's Plookesian friends.
Ultimately, they decide to leave to leave that decision to Dib, being that he is the group's moral compass. They decide to bring it up when things clear up, and they have more breathing room.
Gaz's disability is also discussed, revealing more details of its origin.
Dib continues to avoid the subject of Gaz's disability, and their mother's mortality whenever Zim tries to corner him.
The children (Zim included) are cushioned as best as they can by the adult OC's. After Dwicky's death, Professor Membrane becomes involved. The trio come up with the excuse that they've hired private bodyguards (the OC's) and now need a mental health vacation, buying them some time.
Gaz is forced to sit on the sidelines until her new contacts arrive. Dib and Zim mutually refuse to leave her side. All of them nurse wounds and grief in the aftermath. Zim becomes excessively protective of the Membrane's, with he and Dib taking 'shifts' to aid Gaz in visual tasks and general day-to-day functionality while she remains blind for several days. With her vision returned, Gaz tells the truth about her mother's death.
Gaz's mother was ill, and suffered a heart attack while Gaz was home alone with her. Blind and panicking and only a toddler, Gaz miscounted her steps down the staircase in an effort to reach the phone, fell, and was injured to unconsciousness. She was found and able to recover in a hospital only to discover her mother had passed.
Wanting to keep an eye on his children and be nearby in case they need them, Professor Membrane coincidentally hosts a large conference in the city, inviting his children to attend, and painting an enormous target on his back. Tak's plans escalate, and call for the destruction of the entire conference center and all associated parades, with horrific potential regarding death tolls.
Peter finally isn't able to stomach her killing anymore, and puts his foot down, warning the Membrane's and fleeing to try and stop the plan himself, individually, as well. However, Tak catches him, and forces him into the car with her and the bombs, so that he is forced to watch her set and detonate them.
Aware of her plan, but too late to stop it, Gaz makes a decision.
Unfortunately for the Membrane's, it's not Tak who ends up dying.
Peter's death fractures the tenuous grasp of sanity Tak had been holding onto. She blames herself, but more importantly blames Zim, Dib, and Gaz.
Naturally, this escalates things further.
Tak sets loose the final stages of her plan, which is a three-hitter:
Phase 1 - Release the Hounds all across the city at the same time Phase 2 - Emulate several natural disasters, including earthquakes, tornados, fires, and floods Phase 3 - A special surprise just for the trio
PHASE 1
The trio gets separated pretty fast. If I'm remembering my original plans correctly, Dib and Zim were out scouting while Gaz was home monitoring the cameras. The OC's were in various locations across the city scouting as well when the first wave of Hounds were released, inciting riots, panic, and chaos. Zim and Dib quickly lose contact with her when cell towers begin to fail. Rather that stay home, Gaz goes looking for her sibling and love-interest, and does her best to protect people where she can.
Eventually, Gaz finds Zim and Dib in the chaos. She is however injured by a Hound in their effort to get to where Tak has set up, in a huge skyscraper in the center of the city.
She dislocates her shoulder, leaving her down an arm. They are however able to get ahold of the OC's team. Through a scrambled signal, they agree to all continue to head towards Tak's location and meeting one another there for the final battle.
Zim, Dib, and Gaz's group reaches Tak first. Not able to risk waiting for the OC's, the try to enter without them, only for Dib to be grievously injured by debris in an explosion. He collapses, the OC's arriving only in time to see Gaz captured. Zim, sensing at last how dangerous this situation has become, demands they prioritize helping Dib while he goes to rescue Gaz, forbidding anymore humans from being involved.
Zim fights his way to Tak for the final showdown.
It's revealed that Tak has created a ship, designed to send Gaz into space and explode, killing her in a bright, easily-visible-from-Earth explosion.
Eventually, they fight. Zim manages to get the upper hand, seemingly defeating Tak. He frees Gaz, celebrating briefly until Tak reveals the entirety of her Phase 3's plan.
Gaz makes the decision ultimately to sacrifice herself for the greater good, inspired by the love for her brother, the newly instilled desire to help others, and to protect Zim.
Zim, naturally, has other plans.
Zim tricks the pod, replacing Gaz, and goes inside of it. It locks behind him, preparing a countdown for launching into space. Gaz is unable to stop it, and Zim is incapable with so little time. The two say their goodbyes.
Zim is promptly launched into space. Spectators fear the worst, seeing a missile launch, but it never comes back down.
Donovan intercepts Gaz as she exits the building. She holds a PAK with a hole in it (which is not a result of Zim's fight with her, leading the reader to realize that Gaz caused that injury on her own). When asked where Zim is, Gaz only looks at the strange 'firework flare' now disappearing into the sky, leaving a series of explosions in its wake. Donovan understands the implication, and takes her home.
The tale, at last, comes to an end, but there is an epilogue.

Long-ass OC stuff under the cut!
1:
Invader Amber (she/her). Her antenna are shaped in an almost Z, and her goggles are tinted blue, Amber didn't always need them, but after an incident during her Elite days, she's both needed them and acted more defective since.
2 & 3:
Invader Lili and her not-shattered-anymore Sir Unit.
Last to conquer a planet, Yautjles 211.4 being home of the terrible Morphic Beasts, who crashed their ship upon entering the atmosphere of the planet. The crash cracked Lili's pak and broke Tox to pieces, Tox doesn't have an eye due to it. Lili uses she/her.
4:
Assistant Navigator Six (they/them). They would be Lead Nav if not for the height, best navigator on the massive. Hates they have to fly in a straight line (Six: seriously what the fuck-)
5:
Head Scientist and shortest irken on the Massive, JuJu! (They/them). JuJu has only slightly poor eyesight, but is the one that made (and repairs) Amber's goggles during training. The Tallest hate the fact that their the best, yet shortest.
6:
Lieutenant Ocean (she/her, and I'm aware she is in a Tallest uniform in the drawing, I didn't realize till abt halfway through). She's maybe two inches shorter than The Tallest, and takes over after the Florpus incident.
7 & 8:
Arc (he/him) is a Vortian Technican who's chances of joining the Resisty were ruined by finding Bezl at his doorstep, Bezl imprinted before Arc could figure out what to do.
PAKless Irkens are dangerous, hybrids even more so. Bezl is a PAKless, lab-made Irken hybrid, mixed dna is from a member of the bee-like Apismeleions. And he got left at a certain unfortunate Vortian's homestead. (Arc loves his son ofc). Bezl currently has two small semi-transparent wings, that match the orange of his eyes (Apismeleions have star-like pupils as well, so he looks like that normally too)

ERROR.
LOADING...
Almost seven human years ago now, TAK had failed her mission of conquering Earth. It was a pathetic, humiliating defeat and they didn't like to think about it. Of course, being stuck in her emergency escape pod left little room to do much else and since then she had gone over a million different ways she could've succeeded. She could have not underestimated Zim, though she couldn't blame herself for that part. All of her sources before landing on Earth had told her ZIM was idiotic, hardly even worth the title of an Irken, let alone an Invader. How were they to know he would be competent enough to defeat her?
Truthfully, he shouldn't have been. That brought her to her next conundrum, ZIM's helpers. TAK could not have accounted for them but if she could go back in time and do it over, she would now. She thought humans were too stupid to deflect her mind control and, for the most part, they were. Except for Dib and Gaz. They were unaffected, thus Dib was able to stop her hollowing machine and Gaz hacked into Mimi in order to make her go haywire. Their shared effort in defeating her had been curious, given that Dib and Zim were sworn enemies and TAK hadn't actually expected ZIM to enlist the help of Dib, but it seemed they both had an interest in keeping the Earth out of TAK's clutches.
Whatever. As horrible as the taste of defeat was, TAK could handle it. What she despised most about the situation was the aftermath of it. She abandoned her ship--which was Irk knows where now--and had inhabited her escape pod since. All that kept her company was Mimi's carcass that floated around her since GIR had left her system and her damaged PAK. Besides her thoughts, she kept herself entertained by dutifully working to repair her Mimi and her PAK.
This task was much easier said than done. Being an escape pod, the resources at TAK's disposal were severely limited. The pod was small, likely having the capacity to fit one other Irken of TAK's height with her, though even that was pushing it. It had basic functions such as an engine and control panel to steer it but not much else. In truth, most Irken escape pods were more complex and better designed, not to mention significantly larger. TAK had made her ship out of scraps on planet Dirt, though, and her main priority had been converting the spittle runner itself. She hardly wasted any time or energy on crafting the escape pod, believing she would have no use for it where she was going. She'd been wrong.
TAK had barely been a witness to her ship's glory in comparison to this stupid escape pod. It was a petty qualm for sure but she hadn't even painted the insides, leaving the silver Irken walls barren. TAK had stared at the pod's empty walls enough to last her a lifetime, it was enough to drive one mad. TAK had kept her composure, priding herself on her patience, as she worked to fix what had been damaged in her battle with ZIM.
Mimi was perhaps the most difficult, given her complex wiring and the limited supplies. Most of her systems had been fried after enduring GIR's personality hacking the robot, which was unfortunate. Mimi was built off of an existing SIR unit TAK had located on Dirt and upgraded. If it were not for the fact TAK was so determined to be an Invader, she would have been a scientist. Her far superior intellect would have allowed her to but the job wouldn't have satisfied her. She wanted to be something of greater importance to the empire and have a role that was the highest honor an Irken could receive, that of being an Invader. Still, her expertise in Irken machinery allowed her to engineer Mimi to her liking (who she named as an acronym of My Invader's Mechanical Intelligence) along with her runner.
Reversing the exterior damage GIR had done to Mimi, including ripping the robot into literal pieces, had been the easiest part. However, TAK found no way of being able to fix the faulty wiring now without running into a bug or rebooting Mimi's systems without it crashing. TAK feared she needed far more complex utility to solve the problem that she had no way to obtain. There was a small indestructible window built into the pod which she could see through well enough. It was mostly the vastness of space and shmillions of stars that she could see passing by her and she recognized none of it. When the occasional planet did catch her eye, she was dismayed to find it didn't match any of the invaded planets claimed to be Irken territory in her memory bank. Landing on a planet without knowing if it was in allegiance to the Irken empire could be dangerous, especially with a faulty PAK that would not grant her weapons or disguises, so TAK refrained.
With Mimi's carcass still looming over her, TAK focused her efforts on her malfunctioning PAK. The damage was evident in the way the silver Irkem metal cracked and the three, purple hatches refused to open up to her. She could unlatch the PAK from her body to experiment on it but only for ten minutes at a time before she had to take a break to regain her energy. Irkens could only go so long without the device hooked to their nervous system. It was a flaw TAK had been eager to eliminate, even back in her days before planet Dirt when she had first finished her implant for mind-controlling inferior species.
During experimentation, she discovered all of her systems were down, including navigational and communications. These were the most vital and repairing them had been TAK's utmost priority. After all, the sooner she could locate herself and contact the Almighty Tallest about her situation, the sooner they could rescue her from whatever corner of her space she now found herself in and she could get back to taking Earth from ZIM. It took far too long to get anywhere with this but eventually, she managed to get her communication systems back online. Partially.
Only the verbal part of the system would cooperate. The visual system was still down so she couldn't submit a transmission to the Tallest. She hastily sent a written message to them from the PAK but received no reply. That figured. TAK knew the Tallest hardly replied to any written messages. The Irken leaders mostly stayed put at the head of the Massive where they would respond to visual transmissions, which were far more convenient for their all-day snacking schedule. TAK did not abandon hope, however. She managed to infiltrate a network of interdimensional communication and was in contact with many different beings of many different universes. They were of no use, though. Even the Tallest from another universe was unable to help her, which was disappointing.
At that point, TAK nearly considered leaving her experiments to rest. Then she had an idea.
She removed her PAK and hooked its systems to Mimi. She worked quickly, knowing she only had ten minutes to execute her plan, and pinpointed a stray remnant of GIR's downloaded personality. She waited nervously as her PAK loaded a connection to the origins of the bug before it succeeded. TAK held her breath and opened a communication line.
TAK: Hello Zim.
TAK waited. A minute went by. She could feel her energy being drained from her body as a consequence of the loss of her PAK. She forced herself to hold it together and be strong. Another minute. She started taking deep, hallowed breaths when suddenly, a response popped up on the screen.
ZIM: GIR?! HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS?!
TAK rolled her eyes.
TAK: This isn't GIR, you fool! This is TAK! I've hacked into your SIR unit using a stray glitch I found still in Mimi's system.
She didn't have to wait as long for a reply this time. Zim responded a mere second later.
ZIM: Who?
TAK: TAK!!!! I attempted to take Earth from you several years ago because you are a worthless excuse for an Invader! Remember?!
ZIM: Ah, yes. TAK. What do you want?
TAK cringed as she typed the words onto the screen. This was definitely the lowest point in her mission thus far.
TAK: I need your help.
She could practically hear ZIM's maniacal laughter through the screen.
ZIM: MY HELP?? WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY NEED ZIM'S HELP FOR???
TAK gritted her teeth and continued.
TAK: I'm still in my escape pod. I have no idea where I am positioned. I need you to locate where exactly my line of communication is sourced from and tell me.
ZIM: HA! YOU THINK ZIM WOULD HELP YOU DO THAT?! AFTER ALL THE LIES YOU TOLD ME??? AFTER TRYING TO TAKE MY PLANET FROM MY RIGHTFUL CLUTCHES??
TAK huffed. She could feel her breathing slowing. She could assume she had roughly a few minutes left before she would start to slowly start to lose herself. But TAK couldn't swallow down her pride and, throwing caution to the wind, she began typing at the speed of light.
TAK: YOU SHOULD FOR YOUR EMPIRE! I WAS NOT LYING WHEN I SAID THE TALLEST WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU SO THEY THREW YOU ON URTH WITH A FAKE MISSION! URTH IS MINE FOR THE TAKING AND YOU SHOULD BE GRATEFUL TO HELP ME, A FAR MORE COMPETENT IRKEN SOLDIER, IN BETTERING THE IRKEN INVASION.
She leaned back, feeling quite happy with herself despite her dwindling energy, a sign that her end would be quick to come if she did not reattach her PAK now.
ZIM: LIES! LIAR! I WILL NOT SIT AND ENTERTAIN THESE DELUSIONS OF YOURS WITH YOU. I AM ABSOLVING THIS COMMUNICATION LINE FROM GIR AS WE SPEAK. GOOD LUCK CRAWLING OUT OF WHATEVER HOLE YOU DUG YOURSELF IN, TAK!!!
ZIM: NOT!
The line went dead. TAK stared at the blank screen in horror for a moment before roaring. She cried out in a horrid mix of anger and frustration as she unhooked the PAK from Mimi and threw the computer back onto her herself just before she could feel her energy be fully depleted.
"STUPID ZIM!" she yelled to the empty pod wall. "STUPID EARTH! UGH! STUPID EVERYTHING!"
She kicked the nearest surface to her foot, which just so happened to be the control panel. The panel burst open and when TAK removed her leg from it, a mess of wires and sparks of electricity came out with it.
TAK groaned. Just great. Not only did her humiliating attempt at receiving Zim's help not work but now she ruined her control panel. The pod would likely go into the auto-pilot mode for now until she could repair the machinery. Of course, that didn't really matter. TAK had piloted the ship to what seemed like the very end of space and still reached nowhere she could recognize. What was the point?
Blunt realization hit TAK like a wall of bricks. There wasn't a point. Which meant the control pod was up for disassembly.

wail the siren incorrect quotes. 😭
Keef: *about Zim and Dib* They make a cute couple, huh? Skoodge: They certainly are standing next to each other.
Zim: Look at me straight in the eyes and tell me the truth, Dib!
Dib: You can’t expect me to look into your eyes and be straight.
Dib: The stars are so beautiful...
Zim: They're just giant balls of gas.
Dib: You know what, if you're just going to ruin this, then-
Zim: And yet none of them are as huge as my love for you.
Dib: Oh...
Keef: Why do you look like that? Zim, laying face-first on the floor: Like what? Keef: Like you’re dead. Zim: It’s because I’m dying. Leave me here to perish. Skoodge: Zim accidentally called Dib “babe” in front of everyone today. Zim: *sobs into the floor*
Keef: *sees Dib and Zim together* Keef: They're cute. I would put them on a boat. Skoodge: You mean... you ship them?
Gaz: I don't need to go to bed. I'm not tired, I'll be fine. Tak: But, darling, I'll be so lonely without you. Come curl up in my arms so I can feel whole again. Gaz: O-oh. Well. Are you trying to seduce me into healthy sleeping patterns?? Tak: Is it working?
Gaz: Since we're in a relationship now, your clothes are my clothes too. Don't ask me why I have your shirt on, this is our shirt. Tak: Fine, but when I come strutting in with your fuzzy socks I don't want to hear shit.
Tak: I’m in love with you. Gaz: We called off the prank war last night at midnight, dork. Tak: I know. Gaz: Ah. Okay. Um. Cool. Neat. Very cool. Cool. Cool. Coolcoolcool-
Tak: Fight me! Gaz: *gets on one knee and pulls out a ring* Gaz: Fight me for the rest of our lives.
Tenn : Are you sure Keef’s going to be able to handle that IKEA furniture? They’re not very good with technical stuff… Skoodge: Why are you worried? IKEA was never complicated; these days, it’s even easier! Everything’s color coded, numbered, and there’s even an assembly robot option to make it even easier for Keef, which we’ve obviously opted in for. All they need to do is press the clearly labeled ON button, scan the QR code on the front of the box, and it’ll take care of the rest. Even a monkey could do it! *Skoodge’s phone rings* Keef: Hey, so I’m at Lowes… Tenn : … Tenn : I should have gone with the monkey.
Zim: Dib kissed me! Keef : Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Zim: It was unbelievable! Keef : Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Skoodge : Okay, we wanna hear everything. Keef , get the wine and unplug the phone. Zim, does this end well or do we need tissues? Zim: Oh, it ended very well. Keef : Do not start without me! Do not start without me! Skoodge : Okay, alright, let’s hear about the kiss. Was it a soft brush against your lips or was it like a, you know, “I gotta have you now” kind of thing? Zim: Well, at first it was really intense, you know? And then, oh God, and then we just sort of sunk into it. Skoodge : Ohh... So, okay, were they holding you? Or were their hands on your back? Zim: First they started out on my waist and then they slid up and then they were in my hair. Keef and Skoodge: Ohhh. *meanwhile* Dib eating pizza in their house: And, uh, and then I kissed them. Tenn: Tongue? Dib: Yeah. Gaz : Cool.
Keef : What time is it? Skoodge : I don’t know; pass me that saxophone and we’ll find out Skoodge : *Plays sax loudly and extremely out of tune* Tenn: WHO THE FUCK IS PLAYING THE SAXOPHONE AT TWO IN THE MORNING Skoodge : It’s 2 am
Mimi: You know, I'm starting to regret showing you how that blender works. Gir, drinking toast: Why do you say that?
Zim, tending to Dib's wounds: How would you rate your pain? Dib: Zero stars. Would NOT recommend.
Dib: Crushes are the worst. Whenever I’m near mine, I start acting stupid.
Zim: You always act stupid.
Zim: Wait.
Zim: Goodnight to the love of my life, Dib, and fuck the rest of y'all.
Gaz about Dib: he’s going to go jump in the water and cry now.
