You’re leaning on a tree next to your brother as you wait for Banner to finish calibrating the time machine. In the distance, you see Steve hugging Bucky before making his way towards you. You stand up as Steve gets to your level. He smiles softly before looking towards Sam,
“Hey, can you give us a second, please?”
Sam nods before walking towards Bucky and striking up a conversation with him. You smile up at Steve before stroking his cheek and asking,
“What’s up?”
Steve’s eyes flutter close as he leans into your palm before saying, barely above a whisper,
“I’m not coming back, sweetheart.”
Your hand falls from Steve’s face as a frown etches itself onto your face.
“What?”
Steve slowly opens his eyes, looking into yours, before replying,
“When Tony and I went to 1970 for the Tesseract and the Pym particles, I saw Peggy… I thought I had moved on but… We’re meant to be together.”
You feel a lump forming in your throat as you take a step back from Steve, hurt clear on your face.
“I thought we were?”, you ask, voice cracking at the end.
“So did I… But when I saw her again, it just felt like the universe was giving me a second chance and I can’t not take it.”
As tears start to fall down your face, the air around suddenly feels freezing as a shiver shakes your body. You look towards the ground, trying to find something, anything to say. You’re not sure how long you stay there but you’re pulled back to reality when Banner tells Steve that the machine is ready.
“Y/N… Please, say something.”
Your eyes stay fixated on the ground beneath your feet, “What does Bucky think about this?”
You hear Steve’s breath stop shortly before he exhales slowly, “I didn’t tell him.”
You scoff before shaking your head slowly and kicking a pebble.
“You know, Steve, there’s a theory in quantum physics that time is immutable. It’s like a river: you can throw a pebble in and create a ripple, but the current always corrects itself. No matter what you do the river just keeps flowing in the same direction.”
You look up at Steve, before finishing, “You can’t change the past, Steve. But thank you for making your feelings about me crystal clear.”
You turn around, practically running back to your car, driving back to the tower.
Through your tears and sobs, you don’t hear that someone has followed you back and has entered your room. A hand softly touches your back, startling you, as you turn around rapidly, whispering, hopeful, “Steve?”
“Sorry, doll. It’s just me…”, you hear Bucky’s soft voice answer.
You feel your sobs wracking through your body even harder than before as Bucky climbs into your bed, taking you into his arms. You cry into his chest, listening to his heartbeat until you eventually hear his breathing become ragged.
Through your teary vision, you look up at Bucky, now also crying, as he looks down at you,
“He left me too, you know.”
You wrap your arms around Bucky, trying to comfort him while also letting yourself cry.
As soon as Steve had returned all of the stones to their respective times and places, he had made a beeline for Peggy’s house. He had made sure to look up all the information he needed beforehand, so he didn’t have to wait a second before making his way to her.
Walking up to her front door, a bouquet of flowers in hand, he could feel the slightly chilly fall Washington air nipping at his cheeks with the sun setting in the distance.
Knocking on the door, Steve adjusts his tie, feeling the anticipation rise in his throat. After what seems like forever, the door to the Carter residence opens, Peggy herself standing on the threshold.
She is visibly shaken as her eyes widen immeasurably before she whispers, “Steve?”
Steve smiles back at her, replying, “Hey Peggy… I’m back.”
Peggy glances over her shoulder before pushing Steve farther away from the house, closing the door behind her. She crosses her arms over her chest before looking up at Steve,
“Steve, what are you doing here?”
Steve’s smile falters before stutters, “What do you mean? I came back… For you.”
Peggy shakes her head softly before answering, “Steve… I’m married. To a man I love. And I’m pregnant.”
Steve looks down at her and for the first time, he notices her inflated belly. She was not very far from giving birth.
“But, what about us?”
Peggy frowns, “Steve, we missed our chance… Gabe and I are happy.”
Steve lets his arms fall to his side, the bouquet of flowers now upside down, petals flying away in the wind. He opens and closes his mouth once, twice, three times, unable to find anything to say.
He looks at his feet before mumbling, “Can I just stay the night? I don’t have anywhere else to go. I’ll be gone tomorrow morning.”
Peggy sighs deeply before reluctantly nodding her head and opening the door, letting Steve into the house.
As Steve falls asleep that night, he only sees your face from the last time he saw you. Hurt and anger, maybe even disgust on your face. He thinks about the ways in which he will try to win you back, despite the amount of time he had been away. He wasn’t sure how long his one day spent in the past will have been in your life. But he hopes that not enough time has passed for you to have forgotten about him.
As it turns out, five years had passed since he had left. He was confused at first when he came back. The machine Banner had left in the woods behind the Avengers facility had been left there but it was full of dust. The facility, which had been destroyed when he left, was now completely rebuilt and vibrant with life. He had been discreet, walking through the woods to get back to the city without being seen.
From there, he had been able to find a disguise to do research on where you were now. He had learned that you had moved back to Louisiana with Sam and were currently residing there.
As soon as he found out, he rented a car and made his way to you. The road was long but no place on this Earth was too far for him to travel so he could see you again.
When he got to Louisiana, he only had to ask one person to be pointed in your direction. Apparently, the Wilson family was like royalty in these parts. So, he was surprised when he arrived at the house that was indicated to him to find the door widely open, seemingly no one in sight.
Steve walks up the steps leading to the house, hearing someone running towards the door. He is taken aback when he sees a small girl stop suddenly in front of the door. She stares at Steve with wide eyes; she couldn’t be more than 6 years old, with short curly hair secured into pigtails and soft amber eyes.
Still staring at him, the child opens her mouth, “Mommy, there’s a man at the door!”
He hears feet padding their way to the door before he hears, “Lizzie, baby, how many times have I told you not to go to the door a-”
You stop abruptly in your tracks as you see before you the man you thought you would never see again. Your breath hitches as a lump grows in your throat.
“Steve?”
Steve smiles softly, “Hey sweetheart.”
You feel the air thickening as your eyes start to sting. You hold your hand out towards your child, setting it on her shoulder, before saying, “Elizabeth, go see Uncle Sam on the dock, okay?”
Completely unbothered, the child responds, “Okay, mommy.”, turning around and running towards what seems to be the kitchen.
You stay rooted to your spot, unable to move or say a single word and staring at Steve like he’s going to vanish before your eyes.
He takes slow steps towards you as if he’s afraid that if he moves too quickly, you’ll run away like a wild animal. He stops when he’s in arms reach of you.
He smiles a little before saying, jokingly, “No welcome home hug for me?”
Before you can even register what happened, your hand has already hit Steve across the face. You feel the heat of the slap warming up your hand as you clench it into a fist at your side.
Steve looks at you again, understanding that this was clearly the wrong thing to say to you. He softly strokes his cheek.
“Guess I deserved that.”
You scoff, rolling your eyes before asking, “What the fuck are you doing here, Steve? I thought you were going back to Peggy?”
Steve shakes his head almost imperceptibly before saying, “That didn’t really work out…”
You scoff again, “So, what? Peggy rejects you and now you come back to get your second choice, is that it?” You shake your head, “You know, I almost didn’t mind being second-best to her all those years ago. But now? You can go to hell, Steve.”
He stares at you, almost like he’s not even listening to you, before asking, “Is she mine?” He bites his bottom lip, looking next to you where pictures of the child and you through the years adorn the walls.
“She seems about the right age, you know?”
You clench your fists, even tighter than before, which you didn’t know was possible. You can feel the blood gradually leaving your hands as you clench your jaw and look at Steve straight in the eyes, “No. She’s not. Not that it’s any of your business?”
Steve frowns in confusion, “Well then, who-”
He’s cut off as loud footsteps resonate through the walls of the house.
“Hey doll. Lizzie just came running down to the boat talking about how there’s a man in the house.”
Bucky’s voice, despite him being far enough away for you not to see him, travels perfectly to the spot in which you are still motionless. Bucky finally stops when he sees Steve standing on the porch.
He doesn’t hesitate for a single second before clenching his jaw and saying lowly, “Get out.”
Steve puts his hands up in surrender about to say something before Bucky screams, making you jump slightly, “Get out of my house! NOW!”
Steve looks between you and him, waiting for you to advocate on his behalf, but you had stopped doing that a long time ago. You stare back at Steve, almost challenging him to defy Bucky.
As Steve doesn’t move, Bucky walks heavily to the door, making you think that he is about to start a fight with Steve, you say, “Bucky, don’t.”
Bucky stops in front of Steve and takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself down before slamming the door in Steve’s face. When Bucky turns back to you, you let out a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding in.
Your vision starts to get blurry, and your ears feel clogged as you faintly hear Bucky still next to the door, cursing Steve out. Your lungs burn as if air seems to be unable to find its air through your body as your legs tremble. Your head starts to spin and before you can understand what’s happening, your legs give out making you crumple on the floor.
You distantly hear Bucky call your name, but your brain seems unable to focus on his voice trying to pull yourself out of your current state. You feel a pair of strong arms holding you to a hard chest followed by a pair of soft hands stroking your hair and face.
After what seems like forever trying to fight against your own body, you let go and everything turns black.
When your eyes flutter open, you’re lying on your bed and the room is pitch black. Multiple hours have visibly passed but the room is completely silent. You push yourself up to the headboard, looking around you before getting up. Your legs are still shaky, so you lean on your bed to help guide you to the door.
As you walk through the halls of the house, you start hearing hushed voices in the living room. Stopping on the threshold, you look at Sam, Sarah and Bucky sitting around the dining table.
“Hey. What happened?”, you croak out.
All their heads snap in your direction and Bucky almost immediately walks towards you, enveloping you in a hug.
“Oh doll, I didn’t know you were awake. How are you feeling? Are you okay?”
You tear yourself out of Bucky’s arms before looking at Sam and Sarah confusedly. They were looking at you like you just came back from the dead or something. Bucky stands next to you, also analyzing your face.
You frown, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Oh my God, what is it, guys? Stop looking at me like that!”
Sam gets up from his chair before gently stroking your arms.
“Do you remember anything from today?”
You frown again before slowly shaking your head. “Should I have something special to remember?”
Sam nods apprehensively before replying, “Steve was here today. Apparently, you guys talked for a while then Bucky got here, and you passed out.”
You rack your brain, trying to remember what he was talking about before you realize. Your body tenses up and you feel your breathing become ragged.
Bucky feels that and guides you to the dining table, making you sit down where he was before. He kneels in front of you and takes your hands in his.
“Doll, I want you to breathe with me, okay?”
You can feel your head start to spin and your vision becomes blurred, but you focus on Bucky’s voice.
“Deep breath in…”
He inhales deeply, making sure you’re following along.
“And out…”
He exhales deeply, looking into your eyes. You can feel your vision start to clarify.
“Again. In…” Inhale.
“Out…” Exhale. Your head stops spinning.
“One last time, in…” You inhale deeply through your nose.
“And, out…” You exhale through your mouth.
Bucky looks deeply into your eyes before stroking your cheeks. You shiver slightly from the difference in temperature of his hands that are both on your face. He gets up and sees your eyes sending him a panicked look.
“It’s okay… I’m just going to sit down here, okay?”
He sits down on the chair next to you before taking your hand in his. You look at Sarah and Sam, visibly trying to find something, anything to say.
After you all stay seated in silence for about 5 minutes, you look up at them.
“I want to see him.”
Sarah frowns, reaching for your hand that’s resting on the table.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, Y/N? You didn’t… fare so well last time, you know?”, she says softly.
You nod, swallowing thickly.
“I know but he caught me by surprise. This time, I’ll know that I’ll see him so I can prepare myself.”
You can feel Bucky tensing up next to you. Sam clears his throat.
“Why do you want to see him? He knocked you up, broke your heart and left you for some 100-year-old woman he kissed once.”
“Sam!”, Sarah chastises.
“Can always count on you for the honesty.”, you say sourly, side-eyeing Sam.
“First of all, he didn’t know I was pregnant. Hell, I didn’t know I was pregnant until… the accident...”, you say silently.
You had been battling depression since your early teens, but it had never been that bad. Sam and Sarah had started to recognize the signs of your mental withdrawal almost immediately after Steve had left. About three weeks after Steve left, you had tried to take your own life by crashing your car in the lake behind the house. Bucky had found you just in time and brought you to the hospital.
The doctors had insisted on doing a complete medical check-up and had found that you were 2 months pregnant. You were ready to tell the doctor that you wanted to abort but Sam and Sarah had convinced you otherwise. They had told you that keeping the baby could be like a piece of Steve in your life and it could help you heal.
At first, you didn’t believe them, but they ended up being right. The baby saved you, giving your life purpose, something you thought you would never find again.
Bucky, Sam and Sarah had all pitched in to help but Bucky had realized that his desire to be there for you was more than guilt for his best friend leaving you. He had fallen in love with you. So, when he had asked you out, you had said yes. When he had proposed, you had also said yes.
Bucky was making you the happiest you had ever been in a long time. And you were now pregnant with your second child. You had learned about two weeks ago and you had announced it last weekend.
But you knew that, if you didn’t get closure from your time with Steve, you would never be able to be completely happy with Bucky.
You shake your head slightly, making yourself come back to your current situation.
“And second of all, I need to do it. For myself. But also, for my two children. I can’t be the mom they deserve if I don’t get some kind of closure from this whole… situation.”
Bucky huffs before getting up and walking quickly to your shared bedroom. You sigh, rubbing your forehead.
“Sam, can you try to track him down, please? I need to get this done soon.”
Sam looks at you for a couple of seconds before sighing and nodding his head.
“Thanks. Good night, guys.”
You walk to your bedroom, opening the door. When you walk in, you see that Bucky is laying down under the covers, his back to you. You walk slowly to the bed before kneeling down on it.
“Bucky.”
Nothing.
“Buck.”
He exhales loudly but doesn’t budge. You sigh deeply, stroking his back with one hand while the other turns him around.
“Bucky, baby, please, just listen to me.”
He rolls on his back but stares at the ceiling, avoiding your eyes. You sigh again before sitting down next to him, folding your hands in your lap.
“Look, Bucky, I understand that you’re upset. He hurt me but he also hurt you. He left us both and you’re allowed to be angry with him and deal with his return in whatever way you want but you can’t be mad at me for wanting to deal with it in the way that I want.”
Bucky doesn’t say anything, still staring at the ceiling. You exhale slowly, putting a hand on Bucky’s cheek.
“Bucky, come on. Say something.”
You sigh deeply, “Bucky, I-”
“I’m scared, okay?”, he says loudly, turning his head to look at you. You jump slightly, unprepared for a response from him, much less such a loud response.
You frown, tilting your head, “Scared of what?”
He turns his head back to stare at the ceiling.
“Bucky, you need to tell me.”
He puts his hands over his face, slightly muffling his answer, “I’m scared that you’re gonna see him and talk to him and fall back in love with him. And then, you’re gonna leave with Lizzie and then I’m gonna be left alone all over again…”,
You feel tears pooling in your eyes as you reach over to put your hands on his shoulders. You tug at him softly, indicating that you want him to get up. Bucky sits up, staring at your lap before you reach over and put a hand on his chin, lifting his head to look at you.
You stare into his eyes, also full of unshed tears, before saying,
“Bucky, I want you to listen to me very carefully, okay?”
He nods at you before whispering “okay.”
“First of all, Steve doesn’t know that Lizzie is his, okay? When he asked, I said no. And we’re going to keep it that way because you are her dad, Bucky, no one else. Second of all, it’s not like I’m going on a date with the man. I just want to talk to him so I can get closure. And third of all, in case you forgot, I’m wearing your ring on my finger, not his. And that’s how it’s gonna stay, okay?”
Bucky looks at you as tears start to fall down his face. He leans towards you, leaving a short but passionate kiss on your lips.
He lays back down on the bed before taking you in his arms as you listen to his steady heartbeat.
You look up at him, whispering, “I love you, Bucky Barnes.”
Bucky hums appreciatively before kissing the top of your head and answering, “I love you more.”
That night, you fall asleep with Bucky’s arm around your waist and his fingers intertwined with yours.
When you wake up the next morning, Bucky has already left the bed. You know that he’s either on a run or working on the boat with Sam.
You get up, brushing your teeth and getting ready before heading out to the dock. As you thought, you see Bucky and Sam working on the boat. They’re silent and you know it’s because you’re supposed to see Steve today.
“Hey Sam!”, you call out.
Sam turns towards you before meeting you halfway into the boat.
“Did you find him?”
He looks at you, raising an eyebrow before scoffing.
“Please. It took me less than 10 minutes. I told him to come at 11:30 so he should be here any minute.”
“Okay, thanks.” You look down at Bucky, still hard at work on the boat’s engine.
“Buck, can I talk to you for a second, please?” He drops the tool that was in his hand before walking up the stairs of the boat and stopping to sit down on the dock, not looking at you once.
You sit down next to him, before taking your hand in his.
“I’m just gonna talk to him, okay?” Bucky continues staring at his shoes but nods softly.
“I love you, you know that, right?”
He finally looks up at you and nods, murmuring, “I love you too.”
You smile at him, kissing his cheek.
“I-”
“Y/N, he’s here.”, you hear Sarah’s voice call out.
Bucky instantly tenses up and looks at you with panic in his eyes. You give a warm smile and whisper, “It’s gonna be okay, I promise. As soon as we’re done, I’m gonna come find you and then we can go do something fun together all day, okay?”
Bucky nods, sniffling softly, before heading back inside the boat.
You get up and follow Sarah to the backyard where Steve is sitting on a bench. As soon as he sees you, he gets up and adjusts his shirt. You feel the warm Louisiana air brushing against your skin as you take deep breaths, approaching him.
When you get to the bench, Sarah stops a couple of feet behind you. You look at her and nod, silently saying that you’re fine. Steve walks towards you and pulls out a bouquet of flowers, handing it to you.
You reluctantly take it and sit down at one end of the bench. Steve follows your actions and sits down on the other end.
“You look beautiful.”
Your breath hitches as you put the flowers on the bench between you.
“Look, Steve, I didn’t-”
You stop and frown as you see a purple bruise under his left eye. You instinctively reach up to touch it and he hisses as your warm hand touches his face.
“What happened?”
“Let’s just say that Sam was less than happy to see me.”
You chuckle softly. You should have known that he would have done something like that.
You put your hand back in your lap, trying to find the right words to express your feelings.
“I wanted to see you because I need closure for my family. That’s all.”
Steve looks at you longingly, “You always were one of the strongest women I knew. And beautiful, loving, caring, compass-”
“Look, Steve, I didn’t ask Sam to call you here so we could reminisce about old times. Why did you come back?”
Steve looks at the ground before clearing his throat, “When Peggy rejected me, it made me realize that I left the woman that I truly loved. And I thought that I could come back, and we could talk and-”
“I’m engaged”, you blurt out. You slap a hand over your mouth, shocked at yourself.
Steve looks at you and finally notices the diamond ring on your left hand.
“Oh… I, umm… Who is it?”
“Umm Bucky.”
Steve frowns, “You’re engaged to my best friend?”
You snort and mutter, “I don’t think he would call himself that anymore but sure.”
“But how?”
You scoff, “Well, when you get abandoned by the same person, you kinda find some things to bond about.”
“And it is… you know, serious?”, Steve asks, a hopeful glint in his eyes.
“Are you fucking serious right now? You leave me, abandon me- us, for some girl and then you ask if it’s serious?” You get up, now completely furious and screaming,
“You can’t just waltz in here after five fucking years, after destroying me so bad I almost killed our child and then ask me if I’m serious about the love of my life!”
Steve seems shocked as his mouth stays open, “Wait, I thought you said she wasn’t mine?”
You stare at him before groaning loudly, “Oh, fuck me!”
Steve gets up, a determined look on his face.
“I want to meet her.”
You exhale deeply, calming yourself down before looking at the lake and crossing your arms.
“No.”
Steve stares you down, “I deserve to meet her.”
Your head snaps towards him, “You don’t deserve jack shit, Steve.”
Your vision becomes blurry with tears as you start hitting his chest aimlessly, “You left! You abandoned me! You deserve nothing!”
You feel strong arms pulling you back as you thrash around. Bucky’s soft voice rings in your ears,
“It’s okay, doll, it’s me. Calm down.”
Bucky’s hands cup your face, and he wipes your tears away with his thumbs as you calm down. When you stop crying, he pulls you into a hug and you feel his chest vibrate as he speaks lowly, “It’s time for you to go, Steve.”
You hear Steve’s equally deep voice from behind you, “I’m not going anywhere until I meet my child.”
Bucky chuckles humorlessly as you let go of Bucky and turn towards Steve, “She is not your child. She is Y/N and I’s little girl, and she will not be anywhere near you.”
As if on cue, Lizzie comes running out of the house.
“Mommy!”
You pick up your little girl and wrap your arms around her. She tries, but fails, to whisper in your ear, “Mommy, why is the man from yesterday here again?”
You chuckle at her lack of discretion. You stroke her back as you reply,
“He’s one of Mommy and Daddy’s old friend. But he was just about to leave.” Lizzie detaches her arms from around you before sliding down to the ground and walking to Steve. He kneels down to be eye-level with her and she holds her hand out to him.
“Hi. My name is Elizabeth, but everyone calls me Lizzie.” Steve shakes her little hand and responds, “Hi Lizzie, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Steve.”
Lizzie frowns at Steve before saying, “Are the bad man Steve that hurt my mommy?”
A look of shock draws itself on Steve’s face as he stares at Lizzie.
Lizzie turns towards you and runs back before saying, “I want him to go!”
Bucky laughs under his breath before saying, “Okay, Lizzie, come on. Daddy’s gonna make you some lunch.”
Lizzie walks over to Bucky taking his large metal hand in her smaller one before walking rapidly towards the house.
Steve stands up, putting his hands in his pockets.
“Why did she say that?”
You scoff as you cross your arms and look at him, “Because she caught me crying my eyes out one day and she asked what was wrong with me. So, Sarah told her the story about the bad man Steve that hurt me and made me sad sometimes.”
Steve detaches his eyes from yours, guilt written all over his face.
“I’m sorry”, he whispers.
“I didn’t know how bad I hurt you when I left and I shouldn’t have come back here like everything was going to be like it was when I left.”
Steve looks back at you, tears in his eyes. “I’ll leave and never come back. And congratulations on the engagement. I’m sure that Bucky and you are going to be great together.”
Steve starts to walk back towards the front yard as you stay standing in front of the bench. You hear the motorcycle start and before you can stop yourself, your legs are running towards him to stop him from leaving.
He turns off the motorcycle when he sees you in front of him.
You take a deep breath, clenching and unclenching your fists a couple of times before you say, “I forgive you. And I’m sorry I lied about Lizzie not being yours, I just… I don’t know.”
Steve nods slightly and starts his motorcycle again before riding off towards the road. You let you a breath and walk to the house.
When you see Bucky and Lizzie in the kitchen, playfully preparing some lunch, you smile bigger than you have in what felt like forever.
Your mind and your heart were finally at peace.

Fireflies
I wrote a little ironfalcon & sarahbucky fic! Thank you to @warmachinesocks for sensitivity reading it for me, I really appreciate the help!
This fic is also on ao3 but tumblr hates links so no links for you
~
The first thing Bucky sees when he walks through the door of Sarah’s house—Sarah’s house! He gets to stay with Sarah!—is Tony Stark washing the dishes. He stops in the doorway, not sure why he’s so surprised to see Stark there—he’d known that Stark had retired somewhere quiet after the battle with Thanos—but he definitely is. He hesitates, not sure if he can—or should—say something. Sure, he and Tony had talked things out after the battle, cleared the air between them, but he’d assumed that was based on them never having to see each other again.
“It’s rude to lurk in doorways,” Tony says, before he can think of anything to say.
“Uh,” Bucky says intelligently. Then, “What are you doing here?” He winces. His ma would absolutely have something to say about how rude he’s being if she could hear him.
Fortunately, Tony just chuckles and says, “I live here. What are you doing here, Freezer Pop?”
“You live here?” Bucky asks.
“Yes,” Sam says from behind him, startling him enough that he jumps. “Now get out of the way, Barnes. You’re blocking the door.”
Bucky steps inside, clutching his overnight bag in front of him like the shield he hadn’t thought he would need. Sarah and the boys are right behind Sam, and Bucky gives her a shy smile. She smiles back at him before ducking her head, and now that she’s turned away, Bucky looks back at Sam, who has made a beeline straight for Tony.
“Hey sweetheart,” Sam says in the softest voice Bucky has ever heard from him.
Tony leans over to kiss Sam’s cheek. “Hey, honey. How’s the boat?”
“Looking good,” Sarah says. “No thanks to you.” Bucky starts to get a little worried, but Sarah is grinning as she says it and Tony’s expression is one of mock outrage so he relaxes again.
“Excuse you,” Tony says in a faux-offended voice, “I was busy for five years.”
“Yeah, taking care of my boys and being an Avenger, so you’ve said many times. But what, you forgot about my poor boat?”
“Hey, I did offer to help pay for the repairs.”
Sarah’s face softens and she walks over to rub Tony’s metal shoulder, uncovered by the sleeveless shirt he’s wearing. “And that was sweet of you,” she says. “But I could told you I could—”
“—take care of it,” Tony finishes. “Yeah, you said.”
Sam rejoins Bucky by the door and tugs his bag from Bucky’s limp hand. “Come on,” he says, jerking his head toward the living room. “They’re gonna be at it for a while. I’ll show you where you can put your stuff.”
As they’re heading into the living room, Bucky quietly asks, “So how long have you and Stark—”
“Don’t let him hear you call him that,” Sam interrupts. “Just call him Tony, he hates Stark or Mr. Stark or anything else like that. And since 2005. We met working on the EXO-7 project. He was my technician. Got married right after he came back from Afghanistan.”
He remembers Steve telling him about Sam taking the plea deal after the Avengers split. Steve hadn’t been able to understand it, but he thinks about how they’d all understood Clint and Scott taking the same deal for their families and wonders if it was something like that.
“And how did you handle the—uh—”
Sam gives him a flat look. “With a lot of communication and a little bit of make-up sex,” he says. “When you’ve been together as long as we have, that’s something you learn.”
“What, that make-up sex helps?”
“That communication is important. And trust me, it can feel like pulling teeth, trying to get Tony to talk, but it’s worth it.” He plops down on the couch and motions for Bucky to sit down next to him, waiting until Bucky does before he continues, “Speaking of communication, a couple things about Sarah since you’re clearly going to ignore the Bro Code.”
“The Bro Code?”
“Yeah, don’t date sisters of friends, that kind of thing.”
“I don’t think that was a thing in the forties.”
“I’m pretty sure it was.”
“No, I think I’d remember that.”
“Steve didn’t have a sister, why would you remember that? Besides, your memory is as good as swiss cheese, and don’t think I missed you not arguing with me about that friend thing. Anyway, the Bro Code, since you’re ignoring it—”
From where they’re sitting, Bucky can see Sarah in the kitchen, putting away leftovers that someone had brought them while they’d been working. She looks real pretty with the evening sunlight lighting her from behind, making her glow like an angel. Bucky smiles a little, thinking about the way she’d laughed at his horrible jokes.
“Seriously man,” Sam interrupts. “Smitten-with-a-capital-s. Now look, Sarah’s had it rough these last few months. Blipped just like you and me, only she had to come back to a rundown boat and her boys all grown up. Tony did what he could around here, but he was grieving too and he had the duties of being an Avenger on top of taking care of AJ and Cass. He forgot about taking care of the boat and Sarah’s paying for it now. She’s been hurt a lot, so if your intention is something quick and then leaving her just like her husband, it’s not just me you’ll have to answer to. It’s Tony too, and the whole town on top of us. We look out for each other around this area.”
“Yeah, I got that today when the whole town showed up to help out.”
Sam grins and shakes his head, seemingly awed that he and Sarah would inspire enough loyalty for people to come help them. Bucky doesn’t get it. Both Wilson siblings are absolutely incredible. Hell, only a few weeks ago, he himself thought he’d be happy if he never had to deal with Sam ever again and now he’s staying at the man’s family home.
“My point is—” Sam begins.
“Samuel Thomas Wilson, I know you’re not giving that man a shovel talk,” Sarah interjects, coming into the living room, drying her hands on a dish towel. “You’re gonna scare him off, same as you did to all my boyfriends back in high school.”
Sam holds his hands up. “I’m just making sure he knows to treat you right.”
“Believe me, the poor man knows. Besides, I don’t need you to do that. I’m more than capable of making sure he treats me right all by myself.”
Bucky thinks about what that might mean and shivers pleasurably.
“Look at him, you broke the poor guy’s brain,” Tony complains. “AJ and Cass Wilson, can the two of you set the table?”
“Aww Uncle Tony, do we have to?” AJ complains.
“Hmm, how about you set the table or I’ll sell all your toys.”
“You wouldn’t do that,” AJ says, but gets up anyway and joins his brother in the kitchen.
“I might if you keep challenging me,” Tony shoots back, but there’s no heat to his voice and AJ is still grinning as he grabs plates out of the cupboard so Bucky turns back to Sam and Sarah, who have gotten quieter now that they’ve got an audience beyond just him.
“—want to see you taken care of the way you should be,” Sam is saying.
Sarah’s face softens. “Thanks. I don’t need it—”
“—but you should be anyway. After all you’ve done for our family, you deserve it.”
They both glance at Bucky, who smiles quickly to try to assure them that he’s a great option for Sarah. He’d heard some of the things the townspeople were saying about her while they were working on the boat today: she’s an impressive woman and all he wants to do right now is to prove that he’s worthy of her.
“Well,” Sam says eventually. “I guess there are worse people you could go for.”
“Gee, thanks, Sam,” Bucky says flatly.
“No problem, man.” He looks back at Sarah. “Fine, I’ll lay off of him. But the first time he hurts you—”
“—you’ll let me handle it like the grown-up I am?” Sarah finishes firmly, hands on her hips. She seems to decide that the conversation is clearly over because she heads back into the kitchen, swatting Tony away from the sauce on the stovetop with a wooden spoon.
Sam deflates. “Yeah, okay,” he calls after her. “I’ll let you handle it.”
“Hey, I get it,” Bucky offers quietly. “I had sisters too and they hated it when I got involved with their relationships.”
“She deserves the best. And I really hope that you can be the one to give it to her. I saw how she looked at you. I haven’t seen her look like that since high school.” There’s a pensive look in his eyes, his hands clasped together in front of him. “I didn’t realize how much I missed seeing that look.”
“I like her too,” Bucky tries to assure him. “I don’t want to hurt her.” He hesitates, then adds, “I don’t want to hurt anyone. Except maybe Walker.”
Sam laughs. “You and me both.”
“I’ll toast to that,” Tony says cheerfully, coming back into the living room. “Sarah says it’s dinner time.”
Dinner is a loud affair, full of the boys talking about what they’ve been up to with their friends, Sam and Sarah bickering about repairs that need to happen on the boat, Tony and Bucky comparing their prosthetics (Tony’s arm is Stark Tech and he’s curious about how it compares to Bucky’s Wakandan one), and Sam, Tony, and Bucky discussing what’s going to happen with Walker now that the shield’s been taken away from him.
“I don’t think this is over,” Tony says, and Bucky agrees with him, remembering how much more determined Steve had gotten every time an opportunity had been taken away from him, but Sam is less sure.
“He’s grieving. I don’t think he’s in any state to be trying to take the shield back,” Sam argues.
“Grieving men can be unpredictable. You said he didn’t catch Karli, that’s got to be weighing on him,” Tony replies. He eyes the shield in its leather case, leaning up against the wall. “I just don’t want to see you get hurt because he decides the shield is still his. Him with that serum, it concerns me. You don’t have that kind of advantage.”
“I don’t want that kind of advantage,” Sam says, surprising Bucky. He’d known Sam is leery of the serum, not nearly as bad as Zemo but still uncomfortable with it. Tony doesn’t seem surprised though, just nods understandably.
“I know,” he agrees. “But I still worry.”
Bucky interjects, “Hopefully the suit the Wakandans made will help even the playing field some.”
Tony blinks.
“You got a new suit?” Sarah asks.
“And I didn’t make it?” Tony asks.
“I haven’t seen it yet,” Sam says, “but yes. Bucky asked for a favor after Walker destroyed the old one.”
“Hmph,” Tony says grumpily, softening only when Sam leans over to kiss his cheek. “Well, I guess I can’t blame you. Shuri’s tech is incredible. The things that girl can do with vibranium… blows that shield out of the water.”
“Is she still refusing to let you take a look at T’Challa’s suit?”
“Yes.”
“They’re very protective of it,” Bucky says.
“And I don’t blame them,” Tony says quickly. “It would just be nice.” He glances at Sam pleadingly, who laughs.
“I’m not gonna let you take a look at it either.”
Tony grumbles wordlessly, but doesn’t complain any further, instead turning to Sarah to ask her about something with the boat. Bucky eagerly joins in, interested in hearing more about Sarah’s life. It’s so different from his, even before the war. He wants to learn everything he can, both about the boat and about her.
By the time dinner is over, he’s stuffed, something that rarely happens. The serum means he has a higher metabolism than the average person, which also means that he’s typically hungrier, and when he’d been with HYDRA, they hadn’t worried about making sure their Asset was well-fed. He offers to help the boys clear the dishes, hoping that will impress Sarah. She smiles at him, but heads out to the porch. The sun is setting over the bayou, and Bucky can just barely make her out through the glare from the sun.
He watches her a little wistfully until Tony comes up beside him and passes him two glasses of sweet tea. “What’s this for?” he asks.
Tony jerks his head toward the door. “She likes to watch the fireflies.”
Sam passes him with an armful of plates on his way to the dishwasher. “Better make sure you grab some bug spray. The mosquitoes are vicious at this time of day.”
“I heal fast,” he says confusedly.
“But it’ll show you’re thinking of her,” Sam says as Tony grabs a can from under the sink and slaps it into Bucky’s empty hand. “Go on, we’ve got this.”
“You’re sure?”
Sam and Tony share a wordless glance. Bucky can’t quite tell what they’re thinking. “Yeah,” Sam says after a moment. “Really, man, get out there.”
So Bucky gets.
Sarah glances up at him when he steps out onto the porch, smiles, and then moves aside on the swing for him to join her. “Let me guess, Tony told you to come out,” she says dryly.
“How’d you know?”
“He likes to think of himself as a matchmaker.”
Bucky hesitates in passing her one of the glasses. “Is that a problem?”
She takes the glass out of his hand, deliberately brushing her fingers against his. “Only if you think it is.”
In answer, Bucky hands her the bug spray too. Her smile broadens.
“Thanks,” she says. “You ever watched fireflies before?”
He shakes his head. “We didn’t have them in New York.”
“That’s a shame. They’re one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”
They’re silent for a moment, both sipping from their glasses. Then Sarah says, “You can put your arm around me, you know.”
Bucky glances at her quickly and then slowly puts his arm around her shoulders. She leans into him, warm and perfect and slotting just right beside him. It’s nice, he thinks, and he leans his head on top of hers. She makes a pleased sound and snuggles just a little bit closer. He lets out a long sigh, feeling the tension drain out of him as the first few fireflies twinkle in the gathering dusk.

DSMP FALLS! <1>
Ah! Summer break! A time for leisure, recreation, and taking her easy.
..Unless you're me.
A pair of triplets crash through a billboard with a go-kart. "AAAAAHHH!" Being followed by a monster of unimaginable horror. "It's getting closer!" One of the triplets cried. My name is Y/N. The boy to the right of me about to puke is my triplet brother, Tubbo, while the boy to my left screaming profanities is my other triplet brother, Tommy. You may be wondering what we're doing in this situation. "Look out!" Tubbo cried. "Agh!" Y/N screamed. "This monster is such a bitch!" Tommy cried. "Tommy!" Tubbo frowned. Rest assured, there's a perfectly logical explanation!
... Let's rewind. It all began when our parents decided we could use some fresh air. They shipped us up to Gravity Falls, Oregon, to stay with our great uncle in the woods. "This attic is amazing! Just look at all of my splinters!" Tubbo cried. "..And there's a fucking goat on my bed." Tommy sighed.
Tubbo walked up to the goat.
"Hey, new friend! Yes, you can keep chewing on my shirt!" Tubbo giggled. Y/N giggled as well. Tubbo and Tommy seemed to look on the bright side of things. I, however, was having a bit of a harder time getting used to our new surroundings. "Boo!" "Aagh!" Y/N jumped up from their spot from under a tree. An old man took off a mask and started laughing. And then there was our great uncle Schlatt. That guy. Our uncle had transformed his house into a tourist trap called the Mystery Shack. The real mystery is why anyone came. And guess who had to work there? Y/N sighed, sweeping the floor. Tubbo reached out to touch something in this gift shop before Schlatt slapped his hand away.
"No touching the merchandise!" He said. Tommy snickered and touched it anyway out of spite. It seemed like it was going to be the same routine all summer, until one fateful day.
"Alright, look alive folks! I need someone to go hang up these signs in the spooky part of the forest." Schlatt said. "Not it!" The triplets said at the same time. "Also not it." Ranboo said. "Nobody asked you, Ranboo." Schlatt said. "I know and I'm comfortable with that." Ranboo smiled. "Niki! I need you to put up these signs!" Schaltt said. "I would.. but I can't.. reach." She trailed off. "I'd fire all of you if I could." Schlatt sighed. "Okay, let's make it eeny, meeny, miny, you." Schlatt pointed at Y/N. "Yes!" Tommy and Tubbo exclaimed. "Awe what? Gruncle Schlatt, whenever I'm in those woods I feel like I'm being watched." Y/N said. "Oh, this again." He rolled his eyes. "I'm serious, something weird is going on! Just today, my mosquito bites spelled out beware!" Y/N said, showing schlatt their arm. "...That says bewarb." Schlatt said. "Look kid, the whole monsters in the forest thing is just a local legend. Drummed up by guys like me to sell merch to guys like that." Schlatt pointed at a guy distracted by a schlatt bobblehead. "So quit being so paranoid!" Schlatt said. ... "Ugh, Gruncle Schlatt. nobody ever believes what I say." Y/N groaned as they hammer signs in the forest. They hammer another tree but stop when they hear metal. "huh?" They hit it the hammer again in curiosity. Finding a secret door with a machine inside, they mess with the buttons for a bit before something opens up behind them. "What the.." Reaching into the hole, they find a dusty old journal. They brush it off and start reading. "Woah.. trust no one, huh?" Y/N mumbled. "Hello!" Tubbo exclaimed. "What are you reading, some nerd book?" Tommy asked. "Uh-uh, it's nothing!" Y/N exclaimed. "Uh-UH IT'S NOTHING!" Tommy mocked. "What, are you seriously not gonna show us?" Tubbo asked. "..Let's go somewhere more private," Y/N said. ... "It's amazing! Gruncle Schlatt said I was being paranoid, but apparently, Gravity Falls has this secret dark side!" Y/N exclaimed. "WOAH!" Tubbo exclaimed. "SHUT UP!" Tommy pushed Y/N with a grin on his face. "Get this! After a certain point, the pages just stop! Like the guy who was writing it mysteriously disappeared!" Y/N exclaimed.
The doorbell rang. "Who's that?" Y/N asked. "Welp, time to spill the beans! This guy's got a platonic date!" Tubbo grinned. "Platonic??" "Date??" Schlatt walked in as Tubbo came back in with someone. "Hey family, I want you to meet my new platonic boyfriend!" Tubbo exclaimed. "Sup." He said. "Hey." Y/N and Tommy said. "How's it hanging?" Schlatt finger gunned. "We met at the cemetery. He's really deep." Tubbo smiled. "..What's your name?" Y/N asked. "Normal.. Man!" He groaned out. "He means Norman." Tubbo giggled. "..Are you bleeding, Norman?" Tommy asked. "..It's jam." Norman said. Y/N stared at him in suspicion before Tubbo dragged Norman away. There was something with Norman that wasn't right. I decided to consult the journal. Y/N read the journal out loud. "Known for their pale skin and bad attitudes.. these creatures are often mistaken for.. TEENAGERS?!" Y/N exclaimed. "Beware Gravity Falls' nefarious ZOMBIES?!" Y/N gasped. "Zombies??" Tommy gasped. He was sitting there with Y/N. "Tommy, outside!" Y/N exclaimed. "Oh, no! Tubbo!" They both yelled. Norman lurched towards Tubbo, grabbed him, and put a flower crown on him. "Daisies?? You scallywag!" Tubbo gushed. "Is our brother dating a zombie or are we just going nuts?" Tommy muttered. "It's a dillema to be sure." Charlie said. "Agh!" Y/N jumped. "I couldn't help but overhear you guys talking to yourselves in this empty room." Charlie explained. "Charlie, you've seen Tubbo's platonic date, right? He's got to be zombie!" Y/N said. "Hm.. how many brains did you see the guy eat?" Charlie asked. "Zero.." Y/N sighed. "Look, dudes, I believe you. I'm seeing strange thing in this town all the time. Like, the mailman, I'm pretty sure that guy's a werewolf. But! You gotta have proof, or else people will think you're a major cukoo clock." Charlie said. "As always, big C, you're right." Tommy said. "My wisdom is both a wisdom and a curse." Charlie said. "Charlie! The toilets are clogged again!" Schlatt called out. "I am needed elsewhere." Charlie took off. Y/N and Tommy decided to work together to get some evidence. Throughout their studies, Norman certainly had strange behavior, but not enough to convict him of anything supernatural. "I'll talk to Tubbo, don't worry, sib!" Tommy said. "Alright." Y/N nodded. ... Tommy walked into the triplets' shared room. "Tubbo, we've got to talk about Norman." Tommy said. "I know! Isn't he great?? Look at this smooch mark he gave me!" Tubbo turned his head to show a large red area on his face. "Egh!" Tommy cried. "Hah! Gullible. It was just an accident with the leafblower. That was fun." Tubbo laughed. "No, listen, Tubbo! I'm trying to tell you that Norman is not what he seems! The journal that Y/N found!" Tommy insisted. "You think he might be a vampire?? That would be awesome!" Tubbo gasped. "Guess again, big T! A zombie he is!" Tommy said. "A zombie?? Not funny, Tommy!" Tubbo frowned. "I'm not joking! Y/N can agree, it all adds up! The bleeding, the limp, he never blinks! Have you noticed that??" Tommy exclaimed. "Maybe he's blinking when you're blinking." Tubbo suggested. "HE'S GOING TO EAT YOUR BRAINS, BIG T!" Tommy shook Tubbo. "Tommy! Listen to me. Norman and I are going on a date tonight and I'm going to be adorable! He's going to be dreamy! And I'm not going to let you and Y/N ruin it with another one of your crazy conspirices!" Tubbo kicked Tommy out. "Ah man.. what am I gonna do??" Tommy slumped against the door. Someone sat down next to him. "How'd it go, bro-bro?" Y/N asked. "He's refusing to listen.. He kicked me out." Tommy sighed. Y/N frowned. "Not surprising. Hopefully he'll come to that realization in his own." ... The two out of three triplets were sitting on the couch, looking over the footage. "I guess we don't have any actual evidence, huh?" Y/N sighed. "Yeah.. I guess we can be kinda paranoid sometimes-" Tommy stopped. In the footage clip, Norman's hand fell off and he put it back on. "WAIT WHAT?!" Tommy and Y/N exclaimed. They leaped off
the
couch in a hurry. "WE WERE RIGHT! HOLY SHIT!" Tommy exclaimed. Racing outside, the two tried to find their uncle. "GRUNCLE SCHLATT! GRUNCLE SCHLATT!" Y/N called out. Schlatt wasn't paying attention.
"Wait! Niki has the cart!" Tommy suggested. "Good eye, Tommy!" Y/N grinned. "Niki! Niki! We need the cart to save our brother from a zombie!" They ran up to her. "Try not to hit any pedestrains." She winked, giving them the keys. "Alright, Tommy! Let's go save our sister!" Y/N grinned. They backed up before Charlie stopped them. "Dudes! This is for the zombies." He handed them a shovel. "Thanks." Y/N grinned, "This is in case you see a pinata." He handed them a bat. "..Thanks?" Tommy said. "Better safe than sorry!" He called out. Tommy and Y/N sped off to find their brother. They heard screams and drove to the direction of the sound. "LET'S GO!" Y/N exclaimed. "Get his arm there, Steve!" Tubbo was struggling against several gnomes. "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!" Tommy exclaimed. "Tommy! Y/N! Norman turned out to be a bunch of gnomes! And they're total assholes!" Tubbo cried.
"Gnomes..? We were way off." Tommy mumbled. Y/N flipped open the journal. "Damn.. no weaknesses." They sighed. "Hey! Hey! Let go of my brother!" Y/N demanded. "This is all one big misunderstanding. Your brothers not in any danger! He's just marrying all one thousand of us and becoming our king for all of eternity!" The lead gnome explained. "Give him back right now, or else, prick!" Tommy demanded. "You think you can stop us, child? You have no idea what we're capable of!" The gnome went on a tangent before Tommy scooped him up with the shovel and tossed him to the side. Y/N used that chance to free Tubbo, dragging him back to the kart with Tommy. "GO GO GO!" Tubbo exclaimed. "I wouldn't worry about it. See their little fucking legs? Those pricks are tiny." Tommy smirked. Tommy stopped when they heard the noises of a creature. A giant gnome creature, to be exact. "Damn." Tubbo said. "MOVE! GO GO GO!" Y/N screeched. The giant creature chased them through the forest. Gnomes launched onto the kart. "Agh!" Tubbo exclaimed. "GET OFF MY FACE!" Y/N cried. "I got you, sib!" Tubbo punched the gnome, while also accidentally punching Y/N several times before the gnome let go, revealing new bruises on Y/N's face. "..Thanks bro.." They winced. "Look out!" Tubbo cried. They crashed into the back of the Mystery Shack. They were officially cornered. The triplets hugged each other in terror. "W-where's Gruncle Schlatt??" Y/N asked. "It's the end of the line, kids! Tubbo, marry us before we do something crazy!" The lead gnome ordered. "There's gotta be a fucking way out of this.." Tommy muttered. "I gotta do it." Tubbo decided. "What?!" The other two triplets exclaimed. "Tubbo, are you crazy?!" Y/N asked. "Trust me." Tubbo said. "..What??" Tommy gasped. "Trust me, just this once, guys." Tubbo said. The two hesitated and then nodded. "Alright, Jeff. I'll marry you." Tubbo stepped forward. "Hot dog!" The lead gnome climbed down to Tubbo. "You may now kiss the groom." Tubbo said after the lead gnome put a ring on his finger. "Well, I don't if I do!" The lead gnome grinned, puckering up. Tubbo took that chance to hit him with the leafblower that was left outside. "Agh!" The gnome screamed. "That's for lying to me! That's the breaking my heart! And that's for messing with my siblings!" Tubbo shot the gnome off into the forest and the rest of the gnomes scattered away. As the triplets walked back into the Mystery Shack, Tubbo stopped them. "Hey, Y/N, Tommy, I'm sorry. You two were really just trying to look out for me." Tubbo sighed. "Oh, don't be like that! You saved our asses back there!" Tommy smiled. "I guess I'm just sad that Norman turned out to be a bunch of gnomes." Tubbo sighed. "Hey, look on the bright side! Maybe the next one will be a vampire." Y/N giggled. "You're just saying that." Tubbo giggled, punching their shoulder. "..Awkward triplet hug?" Y/N suggested. "Awkward triplet hug." Tommy and Tubbo said together, the three of them in a hug. ... "Yeesh, you three get hit by a bus or something? Hahah!" Schlatt laughed. The triplets ignored him. "Hey, um,, I accidentally overstocked some items, why don't you three take something?" Schlatt said. "What's the catch?" Y/N raised an eyebrow. "The catch is do it before I change my mind, now go!" Schlatt said. The triplets grinned at each other. Tubbo picked out a grappling hook, Tommy picked out a music disc, and Y/N picked out a a hat with a bat symbol on it. ... This journal told me that there was no one you could trust. But when you go up against an army of gnomes with side by side with two people, you realize they probably got their back. "Tubbo, can you get the light?" Y/N asked. "You got it, sib!" Tubbo shot the grappling hook at the light. "Oh, for fuck's sake!" Tommy rolled his eyes. Tubbo and Y/N giggled. Our uncle told us there was nothing strange about this town, but who knows what other secrets are waiting to be unlocked? -------

A less-sad MCU (sorta)Father’s Day Thing
This one’s an excerpt from a WIP Fandom Trumps Hate fic where Steve (and then Bucky) are found in the 1970s instead of the 2010s and are there to be the wholesome adults that little Tony needs when his dad is busy publicly leading Stark Industries, privately co-leading SHIELD, and generally letting the Cold War distract him from his son. (Growth happens over the story, but it hasn’t yet.) Tony is staying with Steve and Bucky for the summer.
[SCENE: Tony riding on Bucky’s motorcycle. AKA discovery that Tony Stark likes going fast. That scene turns into them stopping at a Dairy Queen to get Peanut Buster Parfaits and, given the resemblance of “bouncy dusty dark-haired talking a mile a minute about science fiction,” an employee assumes Tony is Bucky’s kid. Bucky says something like “Nah, he’s my buddy’s, I’m just borrowing him for a while.”]
“I wish you were my dad,” Tony muttered, remembering too late, as Bucky’s stride hitched just a second, that Bucky’s hearing was at least as good as Steve’s.
Oops.
His stomach clenched; the ice cream didn’t feel so good anymore. “Um,” he said as Bucky turned around.
But Bucky didn’t look mad and didn’t tell him to be nicer to his dad or anything like that. He jerked his head toward the bike, and they finished walking back over to it and leaned against it--Bucky bracing his elbows on the handlebars, Tony putting his on the seat. It was still hot, but he felt like shivering anyway.
Bucky looked at him.
“Your dad likes you,” he said finally. “You know that, right?”
“Yeah,” Tony said automatically, ducking his head.
“He does,” Bucky said, like he’d said no. “And I--I think he really likes being your dad. He just . . . forgets that, somehow. And he’s not good at it, and he’s so used to being good at things that I don’t think he realizes he’s not doing a good job.” He took an enormous spoonful of gooey peanut-and-ice-cream. “None of that,” he continued with his mouth full, pointing at Tony with the spoon, “is your fault.”
Tony blinked. This didn’t feel like a count-your-blessings kind of talk.
Bucky swallowed. “There are some things I don’t agree with Howard on,” he said matter-of-factly, now rooting around in the cup for the next peanut cluster, not looking at Tony at all. “There are things he’s said to you that I’m pretty sure are mistakes. They’re things that I wouldn’t do. But they’re not the things that make me more fun to hang out with.” His eyes flicked up and he surprised Tony with a quick grin. “All this? Today?” He waved around them: the motorcycle, the road, the ice cream. “I can do that ’cause I’m not your dad. I don’t have to raise you. My job’s to make sure you’re happy. If I had to think all the time about what’s best for you and what to make sure you know and what to tell you to care about, should you worry about this, does that not matter, I probably wouldn’t be much fun either. So. You probably wouldn’t really want to trade.”
“I guess,” Tony said, to give his mouth something to do while his brain turned that over.
“I really don’t know what I’d be like as a dad,” Bucky said, scraping stray hot fudge off the side of the cup. He paused and squinted at the road. “Huh.” Then he shrugged. “Well, probably not ever going to find out.”
Tony looked up from his blizzard, which was just starting to look good again. “Why not?”
“Well,” Bucky said, leaning further over the handlebars toward him, “I’m not exactly most people’s first choice as a husband. The whole former-assassin thing tends to put ladies off. Bit of free advice--not a good way to impress girls.”
“Ew,” Tony said. He started digging into his blizzard with renewed gusto.
Bucky snorted. “Okay, hotshot. My point is, people don’t really like that. And I’m not sure I’d like anybody who did. Someone who wants to marry a brainwashed robot—”
Tony swallowed so fast he could feel the freezing cold path of the ice cream down his throat and into his chest and doubled over. “Cyborg,” he wheezed, rubbing his sternum.
Bucky, who’d been looking concerned, rolled his eyes. “Cyborg. Fine. Anybody who wants to marry a brainwashed cyborg assassin, rehabilitated or not, probably has a couple screws loose themselves, you know?” He made a face. “I don’t think I’d go for it.”
Tony managed to make a noise that he hoped sounded like “that makes sense” instead of “augh, the cold is behind my eyeballs now.” He took an experimental deep breath and, when that didn’t feel like ice water, took another spoonful of the blizzard--carefully.
“So,” Bucky continued, like Tony hadn’t almost turned himself inside out with very cold ice cream, “no wife--no kids. So I’ll probably never be a dad.” There was something a little funny in his voice, not sad exactly, but not the kind of comfortable tone he’d had until now.
“Sorry,” Tony said, not quite sure if that was the right thing to say or not. Bucky blinked, and whatever had been there was gone; Tony wasn’t even sure it had been there in the first place.
“Nah,” he said breezily, “that’s just how it’s worked out. I don’t mind. Means I’ve got more time for my sisters’ kids--and grandkids, geez, that’s still weird. I like being an uncle. It’s a lot of fun and it’s really hard to screw up. I like taking care of them. And”--his voice went just that shade serious again, and Tony looked up to see Bucky smiling at him. “It’s more time to hang out with you.”
He flicked Tony’s nose and walked away, snickering, as Tony yelped. “You’ve got chocolate on there.” He tossed his empty cup in the trash can. “Now finish that blizzard before it melts. I didn’t make it through the Depression for you to waste ice cream.”
~
“Bucky?” he said as they pulled out into traffic. He didn’t say it loudly, but then again, he didn’t need to.
“What is it?” Bucky asked in his ear.
“I’m glad you’re . . . not my dad.”
There was a pause. He was pretty sure Bucky’s grip on him tightened just a little. “Me too.”
Tony curled back against him for just a moment, then leaned forward. They were coming up on it soon, weren’t they . . . ? Yes, there it was. “Do you think we can hit ninety going down the hill?”
He felt/heard something between a groan and a laugh behind him. Bucky was definitely holding him a bit tighter. “Any traffic cops around?”
Tony craned his neck. “Nope.”
“Then let’s see.”

Chapter Five: The One With Her Uncle
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 2286
"Keep five feet away," Lily snapped, eyes not wavering from the man that stood on her porch, "Bucky go keep the kids upstairs."
No one argued with Lily as she grabbed a shoe and stepped out onto the sandalwood porch where the man stood. Her eyes stayed glued to his, though hers burned with a fiery rage that could only be described as murderous. The light spring breeze of Long Island danced along Lily's exposed legs as the door shut behind her. Everything inside of her wanted to grab the gun that Bucky always kept near the bed and threaten the man within an inch of his life, seeing as he deserved it.
But what kind of sister would she be then?
"Surprised you're even giving me the time of day," Cedar whispered, stuffing his hands deep within his pockets, "After everything that happened."
Lily stayed silent, eyes lowering as she continued to kill her brother a thousand times over in her head. He had nerve showing up at her home, where her kids were. Of course, he had no idea Stella even existed. She didn't bother keeping in contact with him or her parents when they were in prison. The only way he would have known about Stella, or Leo for that matter, would be if Rose had told him. But as far as the eldest Osborne knew, she didn't bother seeing them either.
"You have five minutes to explain how you're here before I call the police because you're trespassing," Lily stated, face blank as she stared down her brother, "Any longer and I'll throw this shoe at your head."
"Awfully small shoe for you, Bucky, and Hunter," Cedar joked, seemingly attempting to lighten the mood.
Glancing to the side, Lily noticed she had grabbed one of Stella's Crocs. She smiled softly at it before returning to her stone-cold facade. As far as Lily was concerned, Cedar had no business knowing that he had a niece sitting in the house they were both standing in front of. He had no business knowing what was going on in Lily's personal life. And she had no intention of telling him anything explicit.
"I'm going to guess that you've had another kid," Cedar sighed, "Can I at least ask her name?"
"Stella. You have three minutes," she sighed, shifting her weight.
"I was released because they dubbed me a victim," Cedar shrugged, rocking back and forth on his feet, "I have to attend court-mandated therapy and I'm on probation for a bit just in case. I got in contact with Scott and asked him where you were living now. I don't have anywhere else to go."
Lily felt her heart long to embrace her younger brother. But the rational side of her reminded him of the terrible trauma he had caused her and Hunter. The things he said to her the day he was arrested. They still haunted her at night, kept her wondering what else she could have done to help him. To protect him from the terrible things her parents forced him into. He was her baby brother, her only brother. And there he stood on her front porch, asking for help. What could she do? Say no?
"Try Rose," Lily stated simply, turning and walking back into the house without risking another glance at the frail boy on her porch.
When she shut the door, Lily saw Hunter and Bucky standing on the landing of the stairs. They both looked crestfallen and upset, but Lily didn't know what else to do. He had hurt her and her son more than words could truly describe. She used to drop everything for Cedar. And yet there she was, standing on the other side of the door where she knew he was still standing. Hoping and praying for his big sister to change her mind. He had been released on probation and as a victim. The legal system trusted him enough to let him walk free. Why couldn't she?
"He can stay in the guest room," Bucky whispered, squeezing Hunter's shoulder, "Rebecca's heading back into the city today."
Lily let out a breathy sigh before twisting the doorknob once again, opening the painted wood. Stepping around the other side, she noticed he was still there, just as she had predicted. His eyes were soft and his cheeks were hollow. It broke Lily's heart to see him in such a solemn state. This wasn't her brother. This was the same shell she had seen all of those years ago when he had asked her for help. When he needed her the most. And she used that against him.
"She's asleep, but you can meet her when she wakes up," Lily nodded, opening the door wider for her brother.
-----
An hour or so later, Lily found herself terrified for Stella to meet her Uncle. It was just the week before when she had asked if she'd ever get to meet him. It was ironic timing, to say the least. She knew that Stella would be overjoyed to meet Cedar and she was sure he'd be a dotting Uncle. But it didn't help the fact she was terrified that he would use her and manipulate her family to work in his favour.
After getting dressed in a pair of loose jeans, a flowy gray t-shirt and one of Bucky's flannels, Lily raised her daughter from a dead sleep. The young brunette whined as the light hit her eyes, earning a gentle laugh from her mother. Dressing Stella in a white shirt with frills at the top and a pair of red overalls, Lily prepared herself for the man downstairs to meet her. She brushed out her long dark hair before placing a gentle kiss on the girl's forehead and scooping her into her arms and shutting the door behind her.
"There's someone here who is very excited to meet you," Lily whispered into Stella's ear, earning a giggle from the girl, "Any guesses?
"...A new puppy?"
"You won't give that one up will you?" Lily laughed as she landed on the main floor of their home, "No. Chandler and Joey are enough as it is. Plus Alpine. The best I could do is get you a fish."
"Fish smell," Stella cringed, "Hunter and I went fishing. I don't like them."
Lily shook her head and laughed at her daughter's story before rounding the corner of the living room where the rest of the family sat, attempting conversation. Even from the threshold, Lily could feel the awkward tension that laid heavily in the room. Pursing her lips, the blonde continued her entry, Cedar watching her with a sad look in his eyes as he admired Stella.
"Stella, this is your Uncle Cedar," Lily cooed, placing the four-year-old down on the floor, where she ran into Bucky's legs beside her mother, "Remember you were asking about him last week?"
"Well aren't you so pretty," Cedar cooed, bending down from the couch so that he was at eye-level with the girl, "It's nice to finally meet you, Stella."
Lily watched carefully at her daughter's reaction. The best judge of character were dogs and young children. And the dogs were in the backyard, so Lily was selfishly relying on her young daughter to see. If Stella was uncomfortable with Cedar, there would be no questions. He would have to find somewhere else to say. If Hunter even showed an inkling of discomfort around his Uncle, Lily had no issue book a hotel for the man. If anyone, and she truly means anyone, found issues with Cedar, there was no doubt in Lily's mind that she would have him leave without a second thought.
"Everything alright, darling?" Bucky said in a hushed voice, running his flesh hand down Stella's, "He's your Uncle it's okay. I promise, nothing will ever hurt you. As long as I live."
"Yeah, remember meeting Aunt Mary for the first time?" Hunter piped up, "You were so confused as to why she was black and white in all her photos, same with Aunt Frances. You thought they were ghosts. But then Dad told you that we'd protect you from everything, even ghosts," he cooed, bending down so he was face to face with Stella, "Uncle Cedar won't hurt you. I promise."
Lily felt tears gather in her bottom brim, threatening to pour over as she watched her two boys comfort the young girl who was clearly hesitant with new people. She chuckled softly as Hunter raised her pointer finger, prompting his little sister to make the same promises he and Lily used to make before he went to Scott's. Lily's heart grew ten sizes as Stella wrapped her smaller finger around her big brothers before turning and walking over to her Uncle with her arm outstretched.
"I'm Stella Barnes."
-----
"You let him in your house?" Rose scoffed as she took a sip of her wine, almost spraying it all over Lily.
Lily pursed her lips as she glanced between her sister and best friend. She knew they wouldn't take it well when she told them she and Bucky agreed to let Cedar stay with them. It was only a natural reaction. Even Lily was still hesitant to let him stay. But Bucky seemed confident that it was okay and that Cedar would be fine. It surprised Lily, how much faith he had in the law and the legal system. Especially after the life he has had.
"And Stella actually went up to him?" Gen asked as she took a quick sip of her wine, "It took that girl almost a year before she even let me hold her."
It was true. Stella and Gen did not have the best start to their relationship. Despite being the baby's godmother, Stella despised Gen for the first bit of her life. If Gen even attempted to pick up the newborn, Stella would scream bloody murder. Lily was terrified that her daughter had an innate dislike towards her best friend. Luckily, the Barnes child was able to outgrow the distaste towards Gen and now looked forward to the times her 'Auntie Genny' would babysit her. Which wasn't often, seeing as both Lily and Bucky were homebodies. But it happens every once and a while.
"I was just as surprised as you guys," Lily admitted, shrugging as she leaned back in her seat at the table, "I almost cancelled dinner tonight because I was too worried to leave everyone home with him."
"Yeah but Bucky and Sam are there, so is Hunter," Rose sighed, crossing her legs and shaking her head, "I would have told him to get lost."
"I did at first," Lily chuckled, running a hand through her blonde hair, "Told him to go to you. But when I went back inside...I just couldn't do it."
She knew it wouldn't be forever. There was no way in hell she was letting Cedar squat at her home and live off of her and Bucky's hard work. He had managed to get himself into the mess. But that didn't mean Lily wouldn't be a loving big sister and let him stay for a bit. She knew Bucky agreed, seeing as he was the one who gave her the look that convinced her to let him stay.
"You said he got your address from Scott?" Rose asked, smiling as the server placed the three women's food on the table, "Wonder why that was the first place he decided to go."
"Well, it's not like he would have the nerve to show up at your place." Gen shrugged at the younger Osborne sister.
"I would have thrown one of Leo's toys at him without a second thought," Rose sighed, twirling pasta onto her fork, "The audacity he has to just show up at your doorstep though."
"He was released by the court," Lily sighed, shaking her head, "I don't trust him fully but I couldn't just toss him out onto the street. No one could survive the streets of Long Island."
"You're nicer than most people though, Lily," Gen sighed, taking another swig of wine, "I'm with Rose. Honestly surprised Bucky didn't stare him down so much he ran away in fear."
Lily chuckled softly as she cut into the chicken parmesan she had ordered. A light conversation ensued as the girls began each of their dinners, all now a bit relieved that the elephant in the room had been talked out. Lily still wasn't entirely confident in the decision she had made to allow Cedar to stay with them. She worried that he was just using her to his advantage. If that were the case, Lily had just put her entire family in danger. But it was Cedar...he was her baby brother.
Lily lifted her gaze from her food and felt the air escape from her lungs. Just across the room sat two people Lily would have killed to keep apart from one another. They were talking in hushed voices, each glancing from side to side constantly as if they were ensuring that their surroundings weren't listening in on whatever conversation they were having.
She could have gone her entire life without having to see the two of them together. Sharing a meal and talking back and forth. She wondered what on earth they could have been talking about. The only thing that they had in common was Lily. And barely so for one of the parties. But there the two sat, leaning over the table and speaking with one another as though there were unspeakable secrets being shared.
"You alright, Lil?" Gen asked, placing her hand on her best friends.
"Walker's here. With Scott."

Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun [One-shot]
Summary: The past is never where you leave it.
Warnings: Some fluff. A bit of angst. Protective Bucky
A/N: I’ve had a lot of you ask about Dot and if she ever comes back (What would happen, how would they react and this has always been the way I saw it in my head). This takes place roughly 5 months after the epilogue. If you have not read it THERE WLL BE MAJOR SPOILERS. Some angst but also sweet Bucky and lots of fluff between Ori and Beck.
Catch up on the series here!
***My fics are not to be saved or posted on any other sites without my written permission. Reblogs are my jam though! Thanks!*
Wednesday is Y/n’s longest day and lately, she is having trouble making it till closing. Thankfully, she has two very loving worrywarts who decided that Wednesdays would be a family day at the bookstore. Bucky picks up Ori from school and from there they head to the bookstore where they order takeout and the two worriers help take some of the workload off her shoulders. They handled restocking the shelves, inventory if needed and Bucky usually had her in the back office on the couch by seven while he cleaned up and closed down.
It was currently just shy of five so they should be barreling through the door any minute and couldn’t come at a better time. They weren’t busy by any means, just one customer that’s been browsing the shelves for thirty minutes but her feet are killing her and she wants nothing more than to her two favorite people.
“Hi, I’m sorry to bother you,” A soft feminine voice grabs your attention and you look up from your computer. “This was in that large red chair in the back of the store. I wasn’t sure if someone left it behind or…”
The dark-haired woman held up a drawing of constellations and flowers floating all together and a galaxy printed marker case. Y/n knew just who that belongs to and it certainly wasn’t lost -- those markers knew they were home. She grins and takes the piece of cream-colored construction paper from the woman’s hand and the bag of markers, setting them on the shelves under the cash register.
“I’m sorry about that. That’s my daughter’s favorite spot in the shop. She likes to sit there and read when she comes in and as you can see, color.”
The woman laughs and rubs a hand over her stomach. "I guess I better get used to finding markers in my couch cushions. When are you due?" She nods towards Y/n’s very obvious baby bump. Y/n smiles down at her belly, placing both her hands protectively over her bump and she looks back up at the woman with a glowing smile.
"February, 26th but I have a feeling they will be early. What about you?”
"April 10th. It goes by a lot faster than you would think, doesn’t it?”
The bell on the front door rings before Y/n could answer and a blur of curly hair rushes through the shelves and right into the back office where the owner of all those curls deposits her backpack with a huff and the arm full of books she was carrying hit the desk with a resounding thwap.
“Mama, daddy said I can order pizza for dinner. Is that okay?” Ori shouted from behind the glass window separating them.
Y/n smiles at the stranger and sighs fondly. “That would be the owner of the markers. Excuse me just a second.”
She walks over (more like waddles) and stands in the doorway so she can keep a watch on the floor and still see her daughter’s sweet face. “Of course, starlight. Yes, you can call and you don’t have to ask. You know where the menu is. My phone is in the locked drawer upfront. Just make sure you get two cheese pizzas and the extra cheesy garlic knots.”
“Okay!” Ori beams up at her and adds, “and brownies?”
Y/n laughs as Ori skips out of the office and over to the front desk with the key in hand. She climbs up onto the stool that’s in front of the computer and unlocks the drawer that holds Y/n’s phone, purse and keys while she’s working in the store alone. Y/n follows behind her and brushes her curls out of her face so she can place a kiss to her forehead.
“Yeah, brownies are fine and you left this in your chair?" Y/n raises her knee, letting them bump into the drawing and her box of markers.
Ori grimaces but is still smiling because she's rarely in trouble for anything and most certainly would never be in trouble for anything as silly as leaving her drawing laying around the bookstore.
"Sorry. I meant to hang it up next to daddy's calendar so you can look at it all the time.”
"It's alright, starlight. Just try to remember next time. You would be upset if someone took one of your masterpieces by mistake and I don’t want you upset.” She tickles Ori’s side, making her giggle and asks her daughter, “ Speaking of daddy. Where is he at?"
"Outside on the phone with Uncle Stevie about work or maybe baby Oliver. He said Uncle Stevie needs to stop whining because Uncle Sammy doesn’t find that cute anymore now that they are married and have a baby.”
Y/n snorts and the woman that was talking to her a few minutes earlier is standing behind the register unable to control her own giggling. Ori blushes at being caught by a customer and looks up at her mother who nods, letting her know it’s okay and she skips off back to the office to call for pizza, Y/n’s phone in hand.
"She's adorable." The woman says as she sets the books down on the counter and Y/n grins in response. She grabs each book from the small stack she picked out and starts to scan each book, placing them into the new paper bags Ori helped her pick out.
"Yes, she is. She really is the greatest kid and thank you."
Y/n starts to notice a trend with her purchase. Each book is about parenting. She has Birth Without Fear, Becoming the Parent You Want to Be, The Motherly Guide to Becoming a Mama and a few others. Normally, Y/n would just scan books and not say a word. It isn’t her business what her customers are buying and she never wants to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Maybe it is the pregnancy but her heart hurts for her. This woman is obviously scared about motherhood and her ability to be a good mother.
“It’s seventy-three even. You can insert your card there.” She chews her bottom lip and holds out the bag. “I know it’s not my place and believe me I know how scary this all is but once you see their face it will ease all those worries. You won’t have loved anything as much as that little baby. You’ll find your way. Don’t worry.”
The woman takes the bag and gives her a weak smile as she takes her receipt. There is something in her eyes that Y/n can’t quite place but she simply says thank you and heads for the door. Ori skips back out back of the office and hands Y/n her phone.
“Done mama!”
Y/n tears her eyes from the empty sales floor and looks at her daughter. She wraps her arm around her and kisses her cheek. “Thank you, starlight. You know your daddy and I love you very much, right?”
Ori responds with a beaming smile and nods. “Yep, you love me best and most in the whole world. Bigger than the whole universe?”
“Yeah, bigger than the universe and brighter than the sun, starlight.”
--------
Bucky groans, loudly. “Steve. I can’t keep having this conversation with you. Bring Oliver over tomorrow and you can take Sam out. I think it will be okay. I have a kid you remember? I even took care of her when she was a baby. Plus, Beck will be there.”
The front door bell chimes and that’s Bucky's last straw. He’s wasted enough time talking to Steve about date night with Sam. Bucky needs to kiss his girl, say hi to his babies before he loses his friggin’ mind!
“I’m hanging up, punk. I haven’t seen my girl yet and you’re keeping me from pizza and talking to my babies. Oh, good, God. Shut it. You just whined about missing your husband for twenty minutes and you’re going to rag on me? I don’t think so, pal. Bring Oliver by tomorrow night around seven. Later, Stevie.”
Bucky’s cheeks are still bright red when he turns around to see Dot standing behind him, swollen belly and a bag full of books from his fiance’s bookstore. He peeks through the window at his girls laughing at the front counter and he knows that Dot met his baby, his Orion and he wasn’t there when it happened. Even if Dot didn’t know she did, she still did and bucky felt his chest twist and stomach clench.
He wasn’t there.
“James…” She closes her eyes and mutters, “Uncle Stevie and Uncle Sammy.”
Bucky doesn’t answer her. He doesn’t even look at her, he walks right past her and heads towards the store. He isn’t going to do this in the street and not with his daughter so close. She isn’t going to learn who Dot is this way.
“Wait--” Dot steps towards the shop door and Bucky steps in front of her, blocking her path. “Is that... My--”
“No.” Bucky is quick to shut that down, gesturing between him and Y/n through a large picture window at the front of the store. He makes sure things are very clear when it comes to Ori and tells her, “She’s our daughter, not yours. You walked out on her before she was three days old, she was never your daughter.”
They stand there, staring at each other. No says a word and no one dares to move. Bucky would love to go inside and shield his girls from whatever this woman is trying to bring into their lives but he stays put, firm and standing his ground. The awkward silence fills the busy sidewalk out front of the shop and after several minutes of agony finally Bucky can’t take it any longer. He has to know what she wants from him and what she wants from his baby girl.
“What is it?”
“What…” Her brows pinch together and she shakes her head. “What is what?”
“What do you want, Dot?” Bucky clarified. He wasn’t yelling, he would never yell at a woman but his tone was as far as friendly as you could get. “If you think you can come back here after nearly seven years and take my daughter from me--”
“I didn’t come here to try to take her Bucky! Jesus,” She blows out a breath and glances back at the girls through the display window. “I didn’t know this is your… wife’s store. I didn’t even know you had gotten married. I was out for a walk after meeting my parents for lunch and I saw the display in the window so I came in. I wasn’t looking for you or for her--”
Bucky digs his teeth into his bottom to keep down the harsh words that were threatening to crawl up his throat. Of course, she wasn’t looking for Ori. She’s never wanted anything to do with Ori and that was probably for the best. He didn’t bother correcting her about Y/n. They were going to be married soon enough and he didn’t want Dot having any more information about his family in case she suddenly got it in her head that she wants to know Ori. He looks down at her swollen stomach and something in his stomach burns. She didn’t want Ori but she’s out buying baby books for this baby? What makes this baby more deserving than his little girl? He hopes Ori doesn’t know any of that or put any of this together on her own. He would have no idea how to repair her heart from that kind of hurt.
His Beck would know. She would know how to fix it and would make everything okay because she loves Ori more than she loves him and that’s one of the reasons he fell in love with her.
“Good. That’s good. Because she has a mom, you know? One that loves her unconditionally and for the record, you’re the one that’s missing out. Not me and definitely not Ori. You’re missing out on an amazing kid and that’s all on you.”
He wanted his words to hurt her more. He wanted her to be upset and regretful for missing out on Ori’s life but she wasn’t. She was hurt by this confrontation and maybe having to hear all of this from him directly but she wasn’t upset about losing Ori.
“James, I was young and stupid. I’m sorry I left that way but… I never felt that connection you felt. You held her and I could see it in your face, you loved her with all of you. I wanted to feel that so badly and I thought after I held her and things would be different but… they weren’t. It’s not like either of us wanted a baby when I got pregnant. You might hate me for leaving and maybe she does too but it was the right decision. She should have a mother who loves her.”
Bucky looks back into the shop and his girls had moved to Ori’s chair (probably Ori’s doing to keep Beck off her feet). Ori is snuggled into Y/n’s side with her head resting on Y/n’s stomach reading The Magic School Bus (with Y/n’s help here and there) to the twins while Y/n plays with her hair. He had no idea how Dot could look at that little girl and not have her heart bursting. He didn’t want to admit it to himself or to Dot but she is right. Ori deserves to have a mother who loves her and he’s so grateful she has one of the best.
“Maybe you’re right or maybe you would have been a good mom. We won’t know because you bolted before we could find out.”
Bucky turns around to head inside but stops abruptly. He spins back around and he looks down at her baby bump one last time. He shakes his he and meets her eyes. “Don’t come back here. Stay away from my daughter and my family. Hopefully this family is one worth sticking around for.”
--------
The doorbell chimes through the quiet of the fairly empty store making Y/n sigh. She is so tired and all she wants is her fiance. Y/n looks up to greet whoever came in looking for their next adventure, but to her surprise, it is her fiance. He is wearing a tired smile but he’s smiling brighter the closer he gets to the front desk. Her brows pull together as she glances at the time on the computer. Bucky has been outside talking to Steve for over forty minutes.
That was highly unusual. Bucky was so good about focusing on her and Ori. Once they were all together his phone was down and he only picked up if it was an emergency or had to do with work.
“Well, hello there handsome.”
“Hi, beautiful.” Bucky rumbles as he leans over the counter to peck her lips. “How was today? Have you been on your feet all day?” He asks, brows raised and disappointment seeping into this voice.
“Bucky, I have to work.” She scolds, chuckling softly as she does. Before he can argue she is already making her way around to get a proper kiss, which Bucky gives without hesitation.
“Please, go sit down. For me? I’ll finish inventory and look at that stack of resumes on the counter you have been avoiding even though you said you were going to hire help months ago. When Leopold and Lobe get here things are only going to get crazier. We need to find help now.”
“Those are not the babies' names and I hate interviewing people.” She grumbles with a pout and leans into Bucky’s arms, sighing heavily after he wraps his arms around her letting some of that extra baby weight fall onto Bucky and she quickly realizes how tired she really is.
“I missed you both a lot today and I’m so tired. Just exhausted really and I’m so ready to go home.” She whispers into Bucky’s neck and his arms tighten around her, swaying her back and forth to try and soothe her as best he can in the middle of the store. He wants to tell her to close up early and bring the resumes home so he can call a few to set up interviews but he can’t muster up the words -- he’s frozen.
All because of his past decided to walk back into his life today. The walk he took after Dot left did nothing to help clear his mind or ease the worry that she is going to come back and try to take his baby girl away. He wants to ask what happened when Dot was there with them. He needs to know what she said to Ori and his soon-to-be wife but he doesn’t want to say the words. Y/n is already tired and hurting from being on her feet all day, he won’t overwhelm her with a woman that doesn’t matter.
“Bucky?”
His arms tighten around her as if she is in some sort of trouble and presses a kiss to her forehead. “Yeah? What’s the matter, baby?”
She pulls back and arches her brow. As if she doesn’t know when something is wrong with him and the look on her face says just that. That look finally gets a smile out of the man. “I’m not sure what is wrong but I know something isn’t right. So, how about you tell me what’s wrong, hm?”
Bucky sighs and makes sure Ori is out of earshot in Y/n’s office, she is. She is doing her homework with that bright smile he adores so much. She is humming Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun and letting her feet sway back and forth. Het adores seeing her like that. Happy and content and Beck is to thank for most of that happiness the last two years.
“I’ll tell you about it tonight, but everything is going to be fine. Just a long, long day. Whaddya say after pizza and homework we close up early and go home? I’ll start calling some of those resumes for you and I’m going to have Nat come help you at the store until we hire someone.”
Y/n eyes him for a second longer and then nods her agreement. She’s too tired to fight him tonight and she isn’t going to pass up Bucky handling the interviews. She presses a quick kiss to his lips and whispers against them, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Of course, I’m okay. I’ve got my girls and babies on the way. Everything is just the way it’s supposed to be.”

-.-.-.-
Fuck divorce!
The words stared at her, silently taunting, and reminding her that she can curse at it all she wants. Divorce is still a thing. Divorce will always be a part of her life. Shutting the journal, Sarah shoved it in her backpack. She didn’t know what else to add to the pages. So, that would have to be enough. The rule was that she had to write. She was never told how much.
And those two words summarized it perfectly.
“Sarah?”
She jumped out of her skin, knocking over her tea as her stepdad stepped into the kitchen. Logan. “Yeah?” She grabbed the paper towels as he reached for a dishrag.
“Sorry.” He grimaced as he handed her the mug. “Put that in the sink, would ya?” Sarah didn’t argue. She washed it out as he finished cleaning up the mess. The running water was a much needed distraction from the awkward silence in the room. Logan had been married to her mom for about a month and the two still didn’t really know how to act around each other.
Actually, that was a lie. Sarah knew very well. Logan just wasn’t getting the message.
“You’re taking the subway today, right?”
“Yeah.” Sarah grabbed her mom’s wallet off the counter, snagging a couple bills for lunch. “See you next week.” The words were short like most of their conversations. Before he had a chance to say anything, Sarah was shouting a bye to her mother, out the door with her backpack in hand.
Logan huffed, tossing the paper towels into the trash as Peggy came downstairs. She was putting in her second earring, looking around. “Did Sarah leave already?”
“What do you expect? It’s his week.”
Peggy noticed the defeated slump in his shoulders. Logan was trying. He really was. And he cared about Sarah. It was that fact that made Peggy fall for him so hard. Wrapping her arms around his waist, she placed a small kiss on the back of his shoulder. “She’s stubborn, love. Gets that from both her parents, I’m afraid.”
Logan smiled softly, gently squeezing the hands interlaced on his abdomen. “I know. She spoke to me today. Six words this time.”
Peggy’s frustrated groan was followed by a pained laugh. “I promise. Just give it time.”
-.-.-
I know I’ve got a tendency To exaggerate what I’m seeing And I know that it’s unfair on me To make a memory Out of a feeling
“Earth to Sarah, please.”
She blinked, finally acknowledging the hand waving in her face. Sarah yanked an earbud out of her ear as Typhanie took the empty seat across from her. “Sorry.”
“Nah, I know when you get in one of those hate-the-world, emo girl moods,” Typhanie teased. She reached across the table and snagged a couple fries before Sarah could swat her hand away.
“Get your own.”
“Nope.” Typhanie smirked as she took a bite. “So much more fun to steal and see you get all frustrated.”
Sarah rolled her eyes, taking a bite of her burger. “You suck.”
“Actually no. That’s why I don’t date boys.”
Sarah coughed, choking on her food as Typhanie grinned from ear to ear. “Not – Not cool,” she wheezed out, grabbing her water and taking a much needed sip.
“My bad, but I had to kill the sourpuss face. It was getting kinda boring to look at.” Sarah scoffed, pushing the plate towards Typhanie and letting her finish it off. “Seriously, what’s going on?” She grabbed the burger, taking a bite. “Normally a joke like that makes you laugh.”
“Just ready to be back at my dad’s.”
Typhanie’s nose scrunched. She recalled the wedding and how uncomfortable Sarah had been when Peggy had asked her to be her maid of honor. Sarah hadn’t exactly warmed up to Logan yet and there she was, playing such an important role. “That where we’re going after school?”
“Yup. I have a meeting with Ms. Y/L/N after school, but then we’re helping Uncle Buck with the shop.”
“My favorite after school activity.”
“Should I be jealous of the crush you have on my aunt?”
Typhanie giggled. Before she could provide some witty retort, the bell rang. Lunch was over. “Guess you’ll never know.” She threw the food away as Sarah grabbed their bags. The looming building was enough to make Sarah wish school would end already.
But she always wished that. Taking Typhanie’s hand in hers, she pouted and asked, “How much longer till we graduate?”
“570. Then we have college…”
Sarah groaned. “I’ll never survive.”
“Probably not.” Typhanie smirked and took that second earbud, handing it to Sarah. She knew the blonde so well. Immediately, the earbud was back in place – music drowning out the irritation that came from squeaking sneakers and gossiping teenagers.
So I keep sayin I hate everybody But maybe I – maybe I don’t
-.-.-.-
“Fuck divorce, huh?”
Y/N looked up from the two words on the page. She was smiling at Sarah, reminding her that there was no judgement here. Being the high school counselor, she was used to talking to students about anything they needed. And Sarah was always one of her favorite people to talk to. She was open with her opinions and Y/N found her so high spirited and passionate.
She just needed to focus. She needed someone to guide her.
“So I’m guessing this means there’s been no headway with the stepdad.”
Sarah shrugged. “He’s trying too much. It’s…weird. I already have a dad and I didn’t ask my mom to bring some stranger into my life.”
“I thought last time we talked you agreed that your mom deserved to be happy.”
“She does!” Sarah huffed, biting the corner of her lip as she looked away. She always liked Y/N’s office. It was calm and relaxing. Notes were everywhere – mostly so Y/N didn’t forget anything – and there was a number of plants that Sarah could focus on when she needed to find the right words. The right emotions. “I – I don’t want him in my life. I don’t need a stepdad. I want to be with my dad. He’s great! And he takes care of me!”
“So does your mother.”
“But it’s different.”
Y/N sighed. She understood. Nothing about divorce was ever easy. Especially when you were the kid in the middle. She remembered a year ago, when everything was first happening. Sarah had fully believed that they would stop fighting and fix things. It was classic. So when Logan came in, she retaliated. Hard. And no headway was being made in that aspect of Sarah’s life.
“You spend the next week with your dad, right?”
“Think you could talk to him about what you’re feeling? You’ve always talked about this honest and open relationship you two have. Getting his input might help you gain some perspective.”
Sarah grumbled, a low whine coming from somewhere in her throat. It made Y/N laugh. “Do I have to?”
“You agreed that as long as we continued these sessions, you would do the homework I gave. This is it.”
“Alright, Doc. Communication with the old man. Sounds…fun.”
Y/N closed the journal, holding it out to Sarah. However, before she could grab it, Y/N added, “Maybe also try writing more than two words, hm? I get that there are days when that motivation just isn’t there, but I need you to try.”
Sarah glanced at the book before meeting Y/N’s gaze. “Okay, then can I ask what you expect?”
“Two sentences at least.”
Sarah didn’t say anything, snatching the book out of her hand and shoving it in her backpack. “Alright. Two sentences.”
Sarah got up and moved to the door, pausing when Y/N called her name. She looked over her shoulder, confused as to what else Y/N could possibly have to say. “I consider three words a sentence. So really, if you think about it, that’s no more than six. And if someone is smart enough to sum up their feelings in six words, they’re smart enough to figure out having a stepparent.”
“God, you’re corny.”
Sarah left, closing the door behind her as Y/N rose to her feet. Finding her planner on her desk, she scratched out Sarah’s name before digging her phone out of her purse. Tonight was ladies night. That meant a quick trip home to change clothes then she could meet up with the girls.
No sooner had the thought left Y/N’s mind than her phone started buzzing. She glanced at the screen, grinning when she saw Carol’s face staring back at her. “Sorry, you’ve reached Y/N’s voicemail,” she answered.
“Nice try. You don’t know how to set that up.”
Y/N chuckled. “Look, I just wrapped up on my last student. Let me get out of the suit and I’m happy to join you guys.”
“Well, there’s been a chance of plans. It’s not dinner and a movie.”
Y/N frowned, slipping her bag over her shoulder and locking up. “Okay. What’s the new plan?”
“Drinks at Sanctum Sanctorum and then Wanda and Val wanted to cash in that promise of getting tattoos.”
Y/N winced. She had wanted a tattoo for so long, but the idea of a needle piercing her skin was enough to make her want to pass out then and there. “I’m not getting out of this, am I?”
“Not if we have anything to say about it. Look, they did all the research and the place looks awesome. It’s not creepy or dark or anything like that. It’s even got a cute name.”
Carol was trying so hard to sell it and Y/N had to give her credit. She was succeeding. Big time. “Jeez, you could sell ice to an Eskimo.” Shifting her phone to her other shoulder, she asked, “What’s the name of the place?”
“It’s so cute! Y/N, there’s no way you can think this place is intimidating. I swear!”
“Carol, just tell me!”
“Howlies Ink.”
Wow. That really was cute. Was Carol sure she got the name right?
“Before you ask, yes, that is the name. Double checked after Wanda told me.”
Y/N snorted. “Alright. Sanctum Sanctorum and Howlies Ink. I’m in.”
She could already hear the squealing on the other end of the phone. It sounded like Carol was declaring she was in. There was no backing out now. This was going to be a hell of a night.

Home - Part 22
A/N - So this is the last part my lovelies! (Well there will be an Epilogue) i just want to thank everyone who has kept with this til the end and for all the love you’ve shown. 💕
"Buck, i cant stop looking at them" i smiled down at my two boys laying side by side in the hospital cot.
"I know, their perfect" he beamed before turning and kissing me "you did so good baby"
"I didn't do anything, i didn't even know what was going on!" I chuckled, when they took me down to the OR the babies heart rates dropped suddenly and they had to give me a general anaesthetic and get them out quick.....when i woke up again i had my two boys.
"You did everything! You carried them for the last... what, 8 months? You've kept them safe and healthy"
"I guess i did do that, I've got the stretch marks to prove it" i rolled my eyes.
"we still need names, we can't just keep calling them 'the boys' you know"
"Mmmhmm okay but can we talk about it after i sleep?" I asked covering my mouth as i yawned.
"Sure doll, you get some sleep"
"You'll watch them?"
"Of course, Steve will probably be in here in a minute he was so excited" Bucky shook his head and laughed.
"Okay, Just let me sleep for an hour and wake me up okay?"
"You got it".
When i woke up again i looked over to see Bucky sat with his eyes closed, both boys sleeping on his chest. He wasn't asleep just resting his eyes, his thumbs gently stroking over their tiny legs as they slept soundly. It was the most beautiful sight ive ever seen, i couldnt help but reach for my phone and snap a photo.
Yes im gonna be that mom who takes photo's of everything! Don't judge me!
"What are you doing?" He asked opening one eye and looking at me suspiciously.
"Taking a photo of my boys" i smiled "i told you to wake me up in an hour Buck, how long did i sleep? Its dark out!"
"4/5 hours" he shrugged casually "enjoy it while you can doll, you wont sleep well for a while"
"Unless they take after their mama and like their sleep too? God i hope they do!"
"Their gonna need a feed, you feeling up to it?"
"Yeah".
Bucky got up and carefully passed me one of the twins while he kept the other close to his chest and sat back down.
"His so tiny.... i feel like i'm gonna break him" i said as i lowered my gown and tried to get the baby to latch onto my breast "He latched on straight away.... oh my god this is so weird..."
"Thats my boy" Bucky winked making me laugh quietly so i didn't disturb the baby.
"So names..... i was thinking Steven and Samuel as middle names? Both of them are important to us" i said looking down at the baby in my arms.
"I love that idea, they'll love that too"
"Is Steve gonna Cry?"
"Probably" Bucky chuckled knowing what his friend was like.
"Okay and first names?"
"How about Thomas....After your dad? I know you miss him" Bucky suggested.
"I really do, i wish my mom and dad were here to see this" i quickly wiped a tear away "Thomas Samuel Barnes?"
"I like it doll"
"Me too" i smiled looking down at the larger of the boys in my arms "i think this is Thomas"
"Okay and now for this little man"
"How did we not decide on names before today?" I shook my head.
"Because we've had our hands full with the girls and Jack's case.... we thought we had more time" Bucky shrugged before getting up and switching out the babies.
"I don't really know what names i like"
"Me either, i didn't think it would he this hard to name them" i said as i got comfy with the next baby.
"You know just before the girls went to bed i heard Allie talking to the bump again.... how do you feel about Theodore?" I asked raising an eyebrow questioningly "thats what she called one of them.... we could call him Theo or Teddy for short?"
"Theodore Steven Barnes? It kinda works" he nodded "for the record i'll probably never call him Theodore"
"It doesn't surprise me babe, the girls rarely get called by their full names either"
"Thats true"
"So are we agreed?"
"I think we are" he grinned as he got settled with Thomas again.
"Did Steve come see them while i was sleeping?"
"Yeah but only for 10 minutes, i didn't want to disturb you.... plus visiting hours where nearly up. His coming back up later with the girls though, then his gonna take them home and watch them til we're aloud to go home"
"Sounds perfect, i miss my girls already"
"Im sure their missing you too"
"Their probably too busy with Auntie Becca to care" i smiled over at Bucky who was shaking his head.
"Okay Teddy is done, can you take him please.... i think i need some more pain relief"
"Sure doll" he laid Thomas in the cot and took Teddy from me before sitting back down to winding him.
I held a hand to my stomach and winced as i pressed the call button for the nurse.
"Your gonna be feeling that for a while doll, your gonna have to take it easy too. Let me help you with things"
"I'll be fine...."
"You will take it easy and let yourself heal"
"But Bucky you cant look after the girls and newborn twins on your own! I can't just sit around and do nothing...."
"You can and you will, Ive already spoken to Steve and his gonna come stay with us until your better"
"Okay, its not like he isn't always there anyway. I sometimes wonder if he actually lives with us and i just don't know about it"
"You don't mind that Steve's around alot do you?"
"Course not, i love Steve"
"Good, you'd tell me if you had a problem with it?"
"You know i would"
"Ms Y/L/N, how you feeling?" One of the nurses smiled as she walked into the room.
"I need something for the pain, other than that im good" i smiled at her.
"Okay lets see what i can do about that".
It was about an hour later when Steve walked in with Becca and the girls.
Steve came straight over to me and placed a kiss on the top of my head, Rosie was cuddled up to him but held her arms out to me as he leaned down.
He let her down to lay beside me and she instantly cuddled up to me.
"Hey mama, how you feeling?" Steve asked.
"Im doing okay, sore.... but its worth it"
"Their beautiful" he nodded looking down into the cot beside me we're they both slept.
"Congratulations you guys, their beautiful" Becca smiled hugging Bucky before getting a closer look at the babies.
Brooke and Allie stood with Bucky looking down at Thomas and Teddy.
"Girls, these are your baby brothers" Bucky said quietly to them and they smiled.
"Their so tiny"
"What are their names?" Allie asked turning to look at Bucky.
"Well this one, this is Thomas" he pointed to the bigger twin "and this is Theodore" he pointed to the smaller one, Allie gasped and looked up at me.
"I knew it!.... i knew that was his name!"
"Okay can i hold one now?" Steve asked practically bouncing on the spot making us laugh at him.
"Sure Steve, hey Buck why don't you let him hold Teddy first?"
"Sure doll" he carefully lifted Teddy and placed him in Steve's arms "this is Theodore...."
"I know that Y/N just said so"
"Theodore Steven Barnes"
"What!? Are you serious?" He said his eyes going wide.
"Yeah pal"
"Guys...." he said with tears in his eyes "i dont know what to say"
"Told you he would cry" Bucky chuckled and Steve gave his his best bitch face.
"If i wasn't holding Teddy id kick your ass"
"Yeah whatever pal"
"Language! Uncle Steve!" Brooke said with wide eyes as she turned to look at him.
"You said a bad word Uncle Stevie!" Allie added making us all laugh.
"Yeah Uncle Steve you said a bad word! Don't be saying bad language words around my kids"
"God your such a mom already"
"Y/N?" Allie said walking over to the side of my bed.
"Yeah babe?"
"Does this mean your our mom too?"
I looked over at Bucky who shrugged with a smile, i knew he was telling me it was my choice what i told her.
"Yeah Allie, i'm your mom too..... if you'll have me?"
"Really??" Brooke asked coming to stand beside Allie.
"Yeah"
"And... can we call you mom?"
"You can if you want to, whatever your comfortable with" i smiled brushing a piece of hair back from her face.
"Im gonna call you mom" Allie said casually before running back to her dad who was smiling as he listened to our conversation.
"You guys are gonna make me cry again" Steve said sniffling from the chair in the corner.
"I think i might join in this time too" Becca added quickly wiping a tear from her face.
After spending the longest two days in the hospital the boys and i were finally aloud to go home. It was the best feeling being back home, knowing i had Bucky and all my babies under one roof and plus Bucky and Steve had been amazing.
They wouldn't let me do much though.....They'd even carry me upstairs!! I was now managing to walk around by myself, slowly, but i was on the mend.
Sam and Wanda came to visit us the day we got home, Sam had actually cried when we told him Thomas's middle name.... even though he tried to hide it.
Wanda had sat cooing at the twins for hours and saying how much she couldn't wait to meet her little bundle of joy.
I was sat in bed just finishing the feeds, Bucky was next to me holding Teddy, the girls were asleep on the bottom of the bed, we'd been watching Aladdin and they had all fallen asleep halfway through. I smiled as Aladdin and Jasmine were singing about 'A Whole New World' realising my whole world was in this room, i never thought id be this happy.
"You okay doll? You seem a million miles away" Bucky asked pressing a kiss to my lips.
"Yeah, just thinking about how lucky i am that i met you. You've made me the happiest woman in the world Buck.... you gave me 3 beautiful girls and my handsome boys, who already look so much like their daddy by the way!" Bucky chuckled as he laced his free hand with mine "i love you baby"
"I love you too, i couldn't ask for a better mama for our kids" he smiled bringing my hand to his mouth and kissing my fingers "marry me?"
"What??...." i looked at him with wide eyes "did you just...."
"Yeah" he nodded with a huge smile on his face "make me the happiest man in the world and say yes?"
"Are you sure...? I mean i dont want you asking just cause we're having a moment...."
"Doll, this isn't just me being in the moment i promise" he said leaning over to the drawer in his bed side cabinet. When he turned back to me he had a black velvet box in his hand "ive had this for a while, i was just waiting for the right time"
"Buck...." i gasped feeling my heart racing as he opened the box to reveal the most beautiful ring id ever seen.
"What do you say doll? will you marry me?"
"Yes!! A hundred times yes!" I smiled with happy tears as he slipped the ring onto my finger and kissed me.
"Its you and me doll, always"
"I think i'm okay with that".

Fantastic Four Vol 1 #239
Thur Dec 17 2020 [10:52 PM] Umbramatic: :O [10:52 PM] Wack'd: I'm gonna guess Batman. You'd never expect that
[10:53 PM] Umbramatic: its the spanish inquisition [10:54 PM] Wack'd: So this mystery guest is a woman with short black hair, having come to see the Four all the way from Arizona on a matter of life or death. She also mentions in thought balloons that
"It's been so long--so many years since we last saw each other. I wonder if he ever thinks of me--of us."
[10:55 PM] Bocaj: I don't think I know of anyone with black hair [10:55 PM] Wack'd: Lucky for her, especially given it's the dead of night, the Four's little corner of the Baxter now has a receptionist. Uh. Kinda.
[10:57 PM] Wack'd: Reed meanwhile has been up for three days straight trying to fix the current Ben related-fuckup. He blamed himself, of course. Sue tries to reassure him that Ben probably doesn't hold him accountable [10:58 PM] Wack'd: Huh!
[10:58 PM] Wack'd: You know what? Fair dues. I did not see this coming. [10:59 PM] maxwellelvis: Doctors Hate Her! [10:59 PM] Bocaj: I always thought of Aunt Petunia not appearing until later [10:59 PM] Bocaj: In my mind she was sort of a the ghost for a while in the sense of sir not appearing [10:59 PM] Wack'd: I mean hey, twenty years is a hell of a while. [10:59 PM] maxwellelvis: As an aside, from what I remember of Ben's wedding, it looks like Aunt Petunia started aging in real time as if the Four had gotten their powers NOW as in 1982 [11:00 PM] Wack'd: "Doctors Hate Her!" Funny you say that max because Ben describes Petunia as a "genuine country doctor." [11:00 PM] maxwellelvis: Ha! [11:01 PM] Wack'd: So Petunia meets the gang. Sue mentions she was expecting someone older, which Petunia takes in stride [11:02 PM] Wack'd: It turns out Petunia married into the family. She, uh. Well. [11:02 PM] Wack'd: Ben's Uncle Jake got into an auto accident, which killed his wife. Petunia, then a student nurse, became his medical student, and then his wife. [11:02 PM] Wack'd: That...sure is a course of events! [11:03 PM] Bocaj: 😬 [11:03 PM] Bocaj: That feels like it fits into a trend with Byrne [11:03 PM] Wack'd: Doesn't it just. (Though I will again point out he is not responsible for Sue having been creepily young when she and Reed hooked up. That's Lee.) [11:04 PM] maxwellelvis: I can see why Slott decided to retcon Aunt Petunia into the grandmotherly type for the wedding. [11:04 PM] Bocaj: Oh now I know where MCU Aunt May has absorbed life force from [11:04 PM] Wack'd: So the "life or death" matter involves her home out in Arizona with Jake. The whole town is in danger of being "frightened to death." [11:05 PM] maxwellelvis: So call Mystery Incoporated [11:05 PM] maxwellelvis: Oh wait, this is 1982, Mystery Inc.'s broken up. [11:06 PM] Wack'd: So. Uh. This is Uncle Jake.
[11:06 PM] Wack'd: And this is Aunt Petunia.
[11:07 PM] maxwellelvis: Yeah, she'd have to have a few more gray hairs than that if she's known Ben since he was a boy, I think. [11:07 PM] Wack'd: She does not seem to have. [11:08 PM] Wack'd: So the Four arrive in Benson, Arizona, and the narration informs us that Ben had been the only one who approved of Jake marrying Petunia, and. [11:09 PM] maxwellelvis: That's what all the instances of Ben invoking her name had led me to believe. [11:09 PM] Wack'd: Look I want to take for granted this is messed up and move on but the damn book seems dead set against me doing this. [11:10 PM] maxwellelvis: Well, anyways, I guess that means we've hit the OTHER side of John Byrne's run. [11:10 PM] maxwellelvis: Aspect, perhaps [11:10 PM] Wack'd: Sue mentions we don't know much about Ben's past. Ben says his mom and died died when he was a teen and Jake raised him. [11:10 PM] Wack'd: (We don't really know much of Reed's past at this point, though I am given to understand this will also change in the near future.) [11:11 PM] maxwellelvis: This part is just Byrne telling Steve Gerber he can fuck off. [11:11 PM] Wack'd: Gerber, I assume, would instruct Bryne to get in line. [11:12 PM] Wack'd: Racism? Anyone want some racism? Anyone think what this story could really use, right about now, is some racism?
[11:13 PM] Bocaj: Eesh [11:13 PM] maxwellelvis: (Gerber I think was one of the first writers to use the "Ben grew up on Yancy St." backstory) [11:14 PM] maxwellelvis: (Unless he didn't write that issue of Marvel Two-In-One, in which case it would probably be Roy Thomas that Byrne was dismissing here) [11:16 PM] maxwellelvis: (I would look this up, but I physically cannot get to my Essential 2-in-1 collection atm) [11:16 PM] Wack'd: So Ruth's child assistant(?) Wendy is upset that Ruth, rather than just appreciating the arrowhead, started a whole excavation. She has fond memories of this place because when her mom was sick they'd come to the site and collect rocks and whatnot. [11:16 PM] Wack'd: So that's not ominous.
[11:17 PM] Wack'd: We skip forward to that night, where two of Ruth's more non-child students are doing some late-night archeology. A mist comes at them and then BAM! Scared to death! [11:18 PM] Wack'd: MEANWHILE IN THE HIMALAYAS [11:19 PM] maxwellelvis: I was putting something in the oven, thinking "Oh man, it better not be the Miracle Man again" and then we cut to the Himalayas [11:19 PM] Wack'd: Quicksilver has been fighting some kind of war, apparently, while Crystal--suffering complications from a half-mutant half-Inhuman pregnancy--is being treated by whoever this guy is.
[11:20 PM] Wack'd: Pietro here is apparently the only guy in all of Attilan who's not come down with some sort of mysterious disease. [11:20 PM] maxwellelvis: He looks like the Leader, if the Leader was slowly turning into a raisin. [11:20 PM] Wack'd: And Attilan is being destroyed, leaving Pietro as their only hope. [11:21 PM] maxwellelvis: Oh yeah, he just looks like the PICTURE of health here, don't he [11:21 PM] Umbramatic: gfrtvtigyhhuihjio;opkp [11:21 PM] Bocaj: The funny thing is that mutant and inhuman genes apparently cancel out [11:22 PM] Bocaj: Or Crystal and Pietro won the silliest genetic lottery [11:22 PM] Wack'd: Back in Arizona, Reed is having no luck cracking the case, while Frankie and Wendy get some bonding time in
[11:23 PM] Wack'd: So, uh. Because this story just did not have enough going on, it turns out Wendy's dad is beating her. [11:23 PM] Umbramatic: oh [11:24 PM] Wack'd: Frankie tries to intervene but Wendy begs her to back off, so she figures there's nothing to be done and leaves. [11:24 PM] Bocaj: Comic are you sure you're up to this content [11:25 PM] Wack'd: I feel like Reed should be caught a bit more flatfooted by someone he looks up to intellectually telling him he can't fix things with guesswork.
[11:26 PM] Wack'd: Sue and Ben want to take action of some kind but Reed points out that, uh, they can't really punch their way out of this one. [11:27 PM] maxwellelvis: I'd make more scooby-doo jokes, but John Byrne deciding to put a Very Special Episode in here has kind of made that feel... not so fun anymore. [11:28 PM] Wack'd: That night, Wendy sneaks out of her house to go talk to the mists. Turns out that’s who her wonderful friends are. [11:30 PM] Wack'd: I think she wants to beg them for mercy? The narration boxes get kinda cryptic. Anyway if that's what she's done, it reeeaaally doesn't work.
[11:30 PM] Wack'd: "What was that about not being able to fight our way out?" [11:32 PM] Bocaj: I think Slott revisited some of this [11:32 PM] Bocaj: I vaguely remember mists and gremlins when Franklin and Valeria were staying with aunt petunia post wedding [11:33 PM] Bocaj: But as it was the same story where Sue made Doom naked on a live broadcast the details escape me [11:33 PM] Wack'd: So on top of these weird things the entire town is now also set on fire and also in a giant windstorm. The Four put out the fires but the damage is done and most of the town decides to evacuate. [11:33 PM] Umbramatic: oh yes that one [11:35 PM] Wack'd: what the fuck what the fuck what the FUCK
[11:36 PM] maxwellelvis: Oh of COURSE Byrne has Reed sympathize with an abusive parent. [11:37 PM] Wack'd: Okay so for starters, because this is the thing I'm the least mad about, everything about this resolution is fucking nonsense. We know basically nothing about any of the other people who got "frightened to death" and so as the readers had no ability to draw upon our own knowledge of their morality or why they might not be able to handle seeing visions of their worst selves. [11:37 PM] Wack'd: From there we get to the fact that, for all the ways Ruth and Reed protested earlier, this is a massive pile of assumptions with absolutely no backing in fact or evidence. [11:37 PM] Umbramatic: geez [11:38 PM] Wack'd: Speaking of Ruth, she said that the arrowhead was crucial, and Ben speculated that may be the excavation released the spirits and they needed to be re-buried. They don't out right say it, but this may as well be a "ancient Indian burial ground" plot. [11:39 PM] Umbramatic: yeesh [11:39 PM] Wack'd: And from there we get, yes, Reed saying that their job is not to judge people, therefore they can't do anything about an abusive parent. Which is frankly just moral cowardice and also really gross. [11:40 PM] maxwellelvis: And also a grim portent of things to come in this era. [11:41 PM] Wack'd: And so the story ends, with. I think the implication is that Wendy asked her "friends" to take care of her dad for her? Which is okay, I guess, but doesn't really fix the way everybody else reacts to this.
[11:42 PM] Wack'd: The story is also just plain all over the place. There's absolutely no reason for the characters who get the Four involved in the plot to be Ben's Aunt Petunia--except-- [11:42 PM] Wack'd: Oh. The whole town got judged. [11:43 PM] Wack'd: Did John Bryne really just write a plot where a bunch of cosmic arbiters of justice basically give the okay to marrying your student [11:43 PM] maxwellelvis: RED FLAG [11:44 PM] Wack'd: This a lot, huh. [11:45 PM] Wack'd: Well, maybe whatever Inhumans nonsense is going on will help clear my head.

Bucky’s Little Wingman
Bucky’s Little Wingman: A Bucky Barnes Fanfic
Buy me a ☕ Character Pairing: Bucky Barnes x F!Reader (Feat: Kobik)
Word Count: 1175
Rating: T
Warnings: None
Synopsis: Every day at the park Bucky and Kobik see you with your dog. One day Kobik decides it’s time for you to meet.
Bucky’s Little Wingman
Bucky pushed Kobik on the swing. She kept asking to go higher, though he didn’t know why considering she allowed herself to float several inches off the seat with every change in direction. He obliged though and now her screams were drawing the attention of everyone around. The fact she was glowing and flying probably adding to the general attraction of the event too. There was a time, Bucky would be worried about it. Where he’d stop and tell her she needed to relax. His attitudes had changed a bit now he had legal custody of her.
Also right now, he was distracted by you.
He’d been noticing you in the park on and off for the last couple of months. You came in with your dog and the two of you would sit under a tree while you ate lunch and read. You always looked so at peace out in the sun. Even when you were reading a book that made you weep openly - something you never hid, and your border collie always started wiggling and licking your face when it happened - you looked alive and present. The sun and the nature found in the park seemed to feed you. It made you thrive.
Bucky was drawn to it. It seemed so familiar to him. A reminder of who he once was way back before he had been spoiled by the darkness of the world.
“I’m gonna fly!” Kobik yelled and on the upwards swing she let go and flew up into the air. She somersaulted and floated down in front of Bucky’s face. “Bucky! Did you see? Did you see me, Buck-a-roo?”
“Yes, Kobik. I saw. You shot right off into space.” Bucky said, grabbing the little girl around the waist and settling her on his hip.
“It wasn’t space, Bucky.” Kobik huffed. Her little voice conveying how ridiculous she thought he was. “I could go to space if I wanted.”
Bucky booped her nose and looked back over at you. The flying child incident had caught your eye and you smiled at him before returning to your book. “I know that, silly.” He said.
Kobik followed his line of vision to where you were sitting. “You’re looking at her again.”
Bucky’s eyes snapped back to Kobik. “What? No, I wasn’t.”
“Yes, you were. You should go talk to her.” Kobik said.
“I - I - She’s just …” Bucky stuttered putting the little girl back on the ground.
“I could make it that you already did talk to her and she said she’d go on a date with you.” Kobik squeaked jumping up and down excitedly. “Oh - oh! Buck! Bucky! Buck-a-roo! I can make it so that you’re already married and you’re both my mommy and daddy!”
“Woah!” Bucky yelped, crouching down in front of her and putting his hands on her arm. “Woah, now, Kobik. How many times?”
“I just want you to be happy.” She whined.
“I am happy,” Bucky argued. Though the words felt a little like a lie. Not that he was unhappy exactly. He was doing much better recently. He’d been in therapy. He had his friends. Kobik. Still, that real happiness he used to have when he was young, and going out with his friends. Seeing girls. That felt like a dream he once had a long time ago.
“I’ll talk to her,” Kobik said, pulling out of his arms and running over to you.
Jemima your border collie sat up as soon as she got to you and started wagging her tail. “Hello, I’m Kobik.” The little ethereal looking girl said smiling brightly at you.
“Hello, Kobik. I’ve seen you and your dad around the park.” You reply.
“He’s not my dad. I don’t have parents because I was made out of bits of these magic cubes. But Bucky takes care of me. I live with him at the Avengers.” Kobik babbled.
“Oh-kay…” You said dragging out the word and looking from her to the dark-haired man who was just coming up behind her.
“Kobik!” Bucky yelped, coming up behind her. “What have I told you about dumping your whole life story onto complete strangers.”
Kobik looked up at him with her brows knitted. “Nothing. You’ve never told me anything about that.”
“Oh. Right. Well, you shouldn’t do it.” He said. “That’s a slow trickle over time story.” He turned to you and dropped his head, smiling apologetically. “Sorry, miss.”
“This is Bucky. He was born like a hundred years ago and he fought in the war with Captain America. I call him Uncle Steve. One day he fell off a train and his arm broke off and HYDRA got him. You know HYDRA? They had me too. I thought they were the good guys but then Buckaroo made me realize they were really mean. They gave him this cool metal arm. You should see it. Show it to her, Buck! It’s really cool and super strong. But they also messed with his head and made him do some real bad stuff. He won’t tell me. But I know. I pretty much know everything. They made him kill people and stuff. They used him for so long. I don’t even know. Like a million years probably. Then Uncle Steve helped him be good again. Then he found me and now he takes care of me and helps the Avengers.”
Kobik spoke at a million miles a minute and as the words all tumbled from her mouth the look of horror on Bucky’s face became deeper and deeper. When she stopped talking you’re both just stared at her with your mouths hanging open. “Okay.” You said, blinking slowly.
“Kobik!” Bucky yelped. “Oh my god! The not dumping the whole life story goes doubly for my life story!” He dragged his hand down his face and shook his head. “I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” He said to you. “I guess that’s our cue to leave. Sorry for bothering you.”
He took Kobik’s hand and started to lead her away. She looked back at you and waved and for a moment you were just frozen watching them not knowing what to say. “No. Bucky! Wait!” You called, getting to your feet. Jemima jumped up with you and started bouncing around you.
Bucky turned back to you raising an eyebrow. “Yeah?”
“It doesn’t seem fair that I know your entire life story and you don’t know mine.” You said raising your eyebrow.
Bucky shuffled in place and looked down at his feet before he looked up and met your eyes. “Would you like to go grab some lunch?” He asked.
“Oh, at least lunch. I don’t talk nearly as fast as Kobik.” You replied.
Bucky smiled and Kobik ran over and grabbed your hand. “Come on then, let’s go! Can I play with your dog? What’s your her name? Does she like treats? Can I give her one? I can make them if she likes them.”
You laughed and closed your hand around Kobik’s and started to introduce yourself properly.

Non-powered starker AU featuring a bit of an exhibitionist kink on Peter’s end and some smut.
*
Peter looks rumpled with his button down askew and his hair all over the place and his cheeks are still a little pink but he looks satiated and Tony has to admit he’s a little less stressed. Peter’s always been good at calming him down and getting rid of his nervous energy. He leans into Tony, pants still undone and Tony wraps his arms around him, one hand settling on his hip and the other on his ass. “I can’t believe we didn’t get busted that time,” he says, sparing a glance over his shoulder and shit, Tony’s surprised too. Its not like this is a club bathroom, or some random ally that Peter has dragged Tony into, it’s a gala and all that’s playing is classical music from the live band and the chatter of voices. Peter isn’t exactly quiet either so they mostly got lucky.
He grins, dragging Peter into a kiss. “Good luck,” he murmurs as Peter melts into him.
“Guess so. Feel better, baby?” he asks and Tony shrugs.
“Some, sure. Helps that you’ll be there,” Tony murmurs. At first he thought he was going to have to deal with his asshole father and his fucking brother alone but Peter had offered to come and he’s close with his mom. He talked her into letting him bring Peter to the cabin on account of they’ve never met before and wouldn’t it be nice to invite him to family bonding? Never mind that they don’t ever really bondso much as scream at each other and then avoid each other for the next three days before leaving and not talking to each other for another six months only to do it all over again.
Still, Tony feels better with Peter coming along even if he’s still stressed about it. Peter pouts at him and Tony kind of wants to kiss it away but Peter speaks before he can. “What, need me to drag you off to some other dark corner to test our luck?” he asks, eyes wide like he’s innocent and he’s so not.
“Mm as much as I would love that I have to speak so I’ll have to take a rain check,” he says, giving Peter’s ass a squeeze.
Peter lets out a soft ‘hmph’ before he grins, leaning back into Tony. “Well, if it makes you feel better we can always up the stakes of our little game, hmm? I’m sure the family cabin has a few fun hidey holes,” he says and Jesus Tony has no idea where Peter pulls this shit from.
“Really?” he asks, raising an eyebrow because he has no idea how to feel about this suggestion. On one hand, sex with Peter is always great. On the other hand he’s not looking to get busted fucking Peter by a family member. Even if he hates two thirds of the people that are invited.
Peter shrugs, “you’re somehow already the family disappointment despite being like, a billion times more successful than your brother. Its not like this would land you loweron the totem pole,” Peter points out.
Yeah, he’s not wrong there. “You know what, we’ll see how stressed I get. Now come on baby, get yourself together. I have a speech to make.”
Peter pretends to be affronted but he’s not, Tony knows. God, he’s so lucky to have him. “Have you ever thought of pointing out that Rhodey is more successful than Steve in the military and younger too?” Peter asks, threading his fingers through his and pulling Tony back towards the gathering of people.
He lets out a sharp laugh, “oh, every time I see him,” he says. And unlike Steve Rhodey didn’t need daddy’s connections to get him there because Rhodey’s a badass.
“Maybe you should say something,” Peter says. He gives Tony another one of those innocent looks and Tony really doesn’t know how he does it, looking so sweet like he isn’t constantly dragging Tony into some barely secluded dark corner of some public space to fuck him silly. He would have thought he’d be the frisky adventurous one but he’s got nothing on Peter.
*
Honestly, Peter kind of thought Tony was exaggerating about his family. He’s got a flair for the dramatic so he thinks he can be forgiven for that but within the first five seconds of knowing Howard he insults Tony, insults what he’s done with the company despite it being more profitable now than it ever was under Howard. He then goes on to imply Peter is twelve and if thatdoesn’t leave him seething with rage. So he looks young, he knowshe does and he knowshe’s significantly younger than Tony but he’s twenty fucking five.
“Baby,” Tony murmurs in his ear, “don’t listen to him. He’s a fuckass anyway.” Tony isn’t exactly wrong but still. “Get us a drink?” he adds, kissing his cheek. Peter sighs and nods, making an effort to walk back to the cabin rather than stomp. He sees no reason to encourage the line of thinking that leaves him a fucking forever child.
He’s digging around in the fridge when he hears someone walk up behind him. “You must be Peter, then,” the person says and he turns to find a tall blonde there. He reminds Peter of that Ken doll he and MJ set on fire as kids to amuse themselves and he knows Tony was nervous about him meeting Steve because he feels inferior but Peter has no clue why. Sure, he’s good looking but he’s not Peter’s type whatsoever. Reminds him of a blonde version of his ex, except Quentin had more striking features while Steve looks… manufactured.
“Yeah. I assume you’re Steve,” he says, a little standoffish. Tony wasn’t exaggerating about Howard so he doubts he’s exaggerating about Steve now. He feels bad for doubting Tony to begin with.
“So Tony did mention me,” he says and takes a small step back, looking out the glass doors of the cabin before turning back. “He’s treating you alright, right?” he asks and Peter prickles fast.
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” he snaps. He knowshe’s overreacting, still a little pissed off about the whole Howard thing but he doesn’t much care for the implications of Steve’s words either.
Steve shakes his head, “nothing really, its just that he’s a little too much like dad and-”
“Tony isn’t anything like Howard and he treats me fucking fantastic so lets get that straight,” Peter snaps and this time he does stomp off, back out to Tony.
He looks a little confused when Peter comes back empty handed but notices Steve trailing behind him fast. “You must have just got here so what the hell did you do to my baby to piss him off so much?” Tony asks, circling an arm around his waist.
“Outright compared you to your father,” Peter mumbles darkly but its nothing compared to the look on Tony’s face and Peter is pretty sure there’s some kind of history there.
“Fuck you,” Tony snaps, pulling Peter away while Maria, who seems to be the only half way decent member of this family, looks on in something akin to horror.
*
They remain curled up next to each other while Tony runs his fingers up and down Peter’s bare back. “Sorry about dragging you into this, baby,” he murmurs, kissing Peter softly.
He shrugs because he volunteered for this. “Its okay. S’not like you can help that your family sucks, and in Steve’s slight defense he was trying to not suck even if he totally does.” Failed miserably at it given his apparently quite low opinion of his brother and Peter is sure that’s unfounded. Or if its not it hasn’t been true in some time.
Tony sighs, “yeah, in his defense I amtoo much like Howard,” he murmurs and Peter perks up, giving him the side eye because he might not know Tony’s father well but he knows that he and Howard are nothing alike. Aside from looks, they dohave a lot in common there.
“No you aren’t,” Peter says confidently.
“You didn’t know me when I was young,” Tony murmurs like that matters.
“Don’t need to. If you were like Howard you wouldn’t be the way you are now, would you? Whatever you did when you were young doesn’t really matter if you don’t do those things now,” he points out.
Tony smiles a little, arm tightening around him. “How come you’re the wise one?” he murmurs.
“Probably that time my parents both died and also my uncle Ben,” Peter says in too chipper a tone, laughing when Tony almost chokes.
“Baby!” he says, trying his best not to laugh not that he’s doing a good job.
“What? Its true. You want a mature young person traumatize them a bunch. Worked pretty well on me.” Tony shakes his head and presses a kiss to the top of his head.
“I love you,” he murmurs and Peter smiles.
“Love you too,” he says back, snuggling in closer to Tony.
*
If Peter has to sit and listen to Howard’s yammering for another god damn minute he might throw the man off the dock that his damn yacht is attached to. “I swear to god if he keeps talking,” Peter mumbles to Tony, who laughs a little behind his hand.
“Hope you got him to sign a prenup,” Howard says despite the fact that Peter isn’t wearing a ring.
Peter makes an irritated noise. “Oh please old man, if I wanted his money I would have chosen someone who has one foot on the banana peel and the other in the grave so all I had to do was give him a gentle nudge before I was set for life but unfortunately Maria bit the bullet and already married your ancient ass,” he snaps. “So I figured the younger, hotter, more successful model with an actual personality would suffice.”
Howard somehow manages to look at him like he’s a bug to be smushed instead of taking offense. “I can see why you like him. He’s got a smart mouth despite it being better off shut.”
Tony gives him an absolutely poisonous look, “oh shut up, Howard. You haven’t had anything useful to offer since the seventies,” he says, rolling his eyes.
“And lets be real, the biggest contribution you’ve made to the world was Tony,” Peter says, earning a sharp snort out of Tony.
Howard rolls his eyes, “oh what would you know, have you even left high school?” he asks and Peter grits his teeth.
“The PhD program I recently finished gives a good indication that I know what the fuck I’m talking about. I’d offer you my I.D to prove my age but I’m pretty sure you lost your bifocals in the Great Depression.” Tony lets out another snort and even Steve cracks a smile at that one. Maria just looks stressed and Peter supposed he might too, if he assumed anyone here would get along for more than five seconds.
“Okay, I’m going to go for a walk with Peter,” Tony says, pulling Peter from his seat. “And then we’re going to bed. Very tired,” he lies as he drags them both out of there.
“No wonder you hate your father,” Peter says, curling an arm around Tony’s waist.
“Oh he was on his best behavior tonight so you can imagine what he’s like normally,” Tony says, rolling his eyes. “You dropped some nice lines though,” he murmurs, pulling Peter into the cabin.
Yeah, he did. Probably because he’s been spending so much time with Tony and if anything the man is good with a one liner. “Mm, well, learned from the best,” he murmurs as he draws Tony into a kiss. Tony goes, hands settling on his hips as Peter pushes him into the nearest room, shutting the door behind him before pressing Tony up against it. Tony lets out a soft moan and Peter knowshow much he likes it when he takes control. He likes to pretend like he’s a control freak but nothing gets him hotter than Peter taking over, pushing him around and telling him what to do.
Tony’s hands run down his body, pulling the shirt he has tucked into his pants out. “Baby this is Steve’s room,” he murmurs into the kiss and Peter shrugs.
“So? Get that jacket off,” he tells Tony, pushing it off his shoulders. Tony all but throws it on the ground and pulls Peter back into a kiss as he works at undoing the buttons on Tony’s shirt. Tony doesn’t bother with his buttons at all; he just pulls the shirt over his head and tosses it aside.
“You sure about this?” Tony asks as Peter grabs his hips and spins them around, directing him towards the bed.
Once Tony’s legs hit the edge of the bed he shoves him onto it, grinning when Tony bounces a little and crawling into his lap immediately. “Think the golden boy keeps condoms and lube around?” he asks, kissing Tony fiercely. Tony moans into it as Peter frantically undoes his belt, pulling it from its loops and throwing it somewhere that’s not near him.
“GodI love you,” Tony tells him, hands making their way down the back of his pants as he grabs Peter’s ass.
“You better,” Peter murmurs. “Move up while I dig around,” he tells him. Tony whines at the loss of Peter in his lap but if they’ve got luck he’ll be back in his lap soon enough. Peter crawls across the bed to the bed side table and yanks open the drawer, snickering at what he finds there. He pulls out the cuffs and dangles them where Tony can see and Tony wrinkles his nose.
“Ew, not something I ever needed to see, baby,” he says.
“What? Don’t want to borrow them for a little fun?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
Tony’s nose wrinkles more, “no fucking thanks, I don’t know who those were on last and I don’t want to find out. Besides, we have nicer ones at home,” he says.
Peter’s lips quirk up, “mm, yeah we do. And they look so pretty around your wrists while I ride you,” he murmurs, leaning back over to kiss Tony. He runs his fingers along Tony’s jaw, carefully tilting his head up so he can meet Peter’s mouth better before pulling away.
“Baby,” Tony murmurs softly as Peter pulls back.
“Gimmie a minute,” he says, turning back to the drawer and rattling around in it. He tosses the cuffs aside, and a few other things that aren’t useful to him until he gets luck. “Ha! Great, because I would have been pretty pissed if I had to go hunting around,” he says, tossing the condoms and lube close to Tony before crawling back into his lap.
Tony pulls him back in immediately, kisses sloppy and passionate as he feels his way up and down Peter’s back. God, he loves Tony like this, touching him like he’s never does it before. “Clothes off,” Tony tells him and Peter snorts.
“You don’t get to give the orders around here, baby, that’s my job,” Peter tells him but he pulls the button of his pants open anyway because he damn well wants Tony yesterdayand things aren’t moving fast enough. He shimmies out of his pants and starts pulling at Tony’s, shedding them and adding them to the pile of clothing tossed about the room. “Lube,” Peter tells him, “and make this quick yeah? want to be on your cock,” he says, kissing Tony again.
Tony moans into it, groping around on the bed until he finds what he’s looking for. “Fast and dirty, hmm? That how you want it?”
“Fucking right,” Peter tells him, “make it good. S’been a shitty day and I want something good out of it.”
“Me too, baby,” Tony murmurs as he presses two fingers into his hole and they both moan. “Gunna be so good,” Tony says, “always good.”
Peter nods, pressing his ass back into Tony’s fingers. “Mm yeah. Gunna ride you hard, love the way you feel inside me,” Peter murmurs, “get the condom.”
Tony curls his fingers a bit and Peter’s back arches into him. “You looks do damn beautiful like this baby,” Tony tells him. “Love the look on your face when I make you feel good.”
He lets out a few short pants before he reaches out himself, finding the condom he threw over here himself and all but tossing it at Tony. “Make be feel better if you get this on so I can fuck you proper,” he says and Tony lets out a soft laugh.
“FuckI want you so bad,” he murmurs into Peter’s mouth, pulling the condom package open and putting it on.
Yeah, Peter too so as soon as Tony’s done with the condom he sinks himself down on Tony’s dick and they both groan. He sits like that for a moment, adjusting before Tony is pawing at his hips, urging him to move as he mouths at Peter’s neck. He curls his fingers into Tony’s hair and settles an arm around his shoulders to balance himself as he begins to move.
“God baby yeah, like that,” Tony tells him as he shifts his hips just right and Peter bites his lip and tilts his head back. Tony moans into his neck, nipping at the spots he’s sucked kisses into and Peter lets out a soft, breathy noise of pleasure.
“Oh godI love having you like this,” Peter tells him. “Love the way you feel when I ride you,” he murmurs.
One of Tony’s hands tightens on his hip while the other runs up Peter’s back and back down again, curling over his ass and squeezing it. “You’re to god damn tight, baby,” Tony moans into his ear. “Fuck me faster.”
Peter nods, shifting his position slightly and moving faster, delighting in the sharp moans Tony lets out. Peter knows he’s loud, doesn’t much care what people think of it either, but he fucking loves when Tony gets loud too. He’s always the one holding back, especially in they’re in public, and Peter likes it when he lets go and just feels it. “Like that, baby?” he asks and Tony lets out another moan into his neck.
“Oh god, ‘m close,” he tells Peter and he bites his lip at the flush of arousal that results.
“Come on, baby,” Peter murmurs to him. “Wanna hear you.”
The hand Tony has on his hip grows tighter as he shifts his hips up into Peter’s keeping with the pace Peter set. He doesn’t expect to let out a loud moan but he does, breathing picking up as Tony slams his hips up into Peter’s again. “Tony,” Peter says, grip on his hair tightening as he pulls it a little. “Do that again,” he tells him, throwing his head back when he does. “Tony!” he says, louder this time.
“Gunna cum with me?” Tony asks and Peter nods frantically.
“Yeah baby, just keep doing that oh Tony!” he yells, grip on Tony’s hair growing tighter as Tony presses his hips up into Peter’s for the last time, yelling Peter’s name as he cums too. For a moment they just sit there and pant while Peter all but melts into Tony, muscles going loose. Then Tony swears and Peter stirs, “hmm?” he asks, only half interested in the response.
“Baby, that was loud,” Tony tells him and he shrugs. Tony lets out a soft laugh, “yeah, you don’t care now but when you have to look my mother in the eye,” he murmurs, prodding Peter off his lap. He whines about it but follows Tony’s instructions while he pads over to the large window that happens to have curtains on it, not that it would have mattered if they turned the lights on. Which they hadn’t so at least Tony doesn’t need to worry about that. “Oh thank god, no one has moved. Come on, before we get busted. I don’t want to listen to Steve whine,” he says, pulling Peter off the bed despite his protests.
*
Tony’s more than content with Peter curled up into his side, one leg drawn up over his hip, when Steve bursts in. He jumps, annoyed but he doesn’t look as annoyed as Peter does. Steve all but throws the clothes that he and Peter must have forgot in his room into Tony’s space looking pretty pissed. Peter’s cheeks turn bright red as his eyes go wide and yeah, Tony thought so. Its one thing to have the thrill of getting caught, its another to actually get busted. Peter mumbles something Tony doesn’t catch and drags the blanket over his head as he slinks closer to Tony.
“What the fuck?” Steve snaps and Tony shrugs.
“It was the first door we ran into,” he says in their defense.
Steve makes a disgusted face, “oh that was cute when you were nineteen, its not so fucking cute now,” he says and Tony wrinkles his nose because gross, bad choice in words.
“You were the one who chose that room, I wanted it but youhad to have it enough to bitch at mom about it,” Tony says, rolling his eyes.
“I didn’t expect my little brother to constantly fuck in it!” Steve snaps.
“Oh Christ, it was like three times. Get over it,” Tony mumbles.
“Three times? You stole like five of my girlfriends and slept with all of them in my room you asshole!”
Peter pokes his head out of the blanket looking amused. “You’ve done this before?” he asks, eyes bright.
“Yeah, and I’m fucking sick of it. Why the hell do you always do this?” Steve snaps.
Tony shrugs, “believe it or not this time was Peter’s idea so blame him,” he says and Peter makes a soft noise of betrayal, slinking back into his blanket hideaway and jabbing Tony in the side with a finger. He jumps, grumbling at Peter but Steve clearly doesn’t believe him anyway.
“Don’t blame this on him, like he knew that was my room! And did you two use my fucking handcuffs?” he asks.
“No, we have nicer ones at home,” he says and he laughs as Steve’s face turns more red than Peter’s had been a few minutes ago.
Steve sputters, clearly at a loss of what to say as he throws his hands up in frustration. “Oh Steve, what could Tony have possibly done to you now? He’s been in bed for over an hour,” his mom says and Tony swears to fucking god if Steve rats him out he’s calling Rhodey to get Steve’s ass canned and he knows Rhodey will do it too.
“He has fucking not! Tell him to stop fucking in my room!” Steve says, so pissed off that apparently he forgot to censor himself in front of their mother.
“I fucking hate you, you know that?” Tony tells him as Peter lets out a soft groan under the blanket and Tony can feel him shriveling up under there in shame.
“Well I hate you too! You can’t even manage to fuck your boyfriend in your own damn room!” Steve yells.
“Well if you’re so damn bothered by it just give the damn room that’s the first door on the way in and this wouldn’t be an issue anymore!” Tony tells him and Maria throws her hands up.
“Oh for the love of godyou two are still fighting over who got that damn room? You’re grown men, stop acting like children!” Maria tells them. “And Tony, really? You’d be pissed off if Steve did that to you,” she points out.
“He doesn’t have the balls and also myroom is across the damn cabin so it doesn’t even make sense to do that, his room is closer to all entrances and exits. Not my fault I got sequestered to the bad child corner,” he points out.
“No fucking wonder you did considering you can’t even manage to fuck in your own damn room! Now I have to wash my sheets and did you even use a condom? What the hell am I going to find in there?” Steve snaps.
“Grab a black light, it’s a Jackson Pollock painting,” Tony tells him and Peter lets out another soft groan. Poor thing, Tony almost feels bad for him but this is half his fault so he doesn’t.
Steve makes a disgusted face, recoiling. “You’re fucking disgusting!”
Tony shrugs, “quick and dirty is my style, what can I say?”
“Oh my god stop,” Peter and, of all people, Maria say in sync though in vastly different tones.
“Steve, go to your room. Tony… go clean Steve’s room,” she says. Tony goes to open his mouth to protest but he gets fixed with a nasty glare. “I have found out waymore about you than I ever wanted to know tonight. Go. Clean. Steve’s. Room,” she tells him, walking off with that.
He turns to look at Steve. “I’m not cleaning your room. I don’t even know how to do laundry so I’d be useless anyway. Good luck,” he says, slipping out of bed and shutting the door in Steve’s face.
Peter sticks his head out of the blanket. “Please tell me we can leave as soon as everyone is asleep oh my god,” he says, looking horrified.
Tony walks back over and crawls over Peter’s body, crowding him into the mattress. “Aw, only an exhibitionist when you don’t get caught?” he asks, leaning in and kissing him softly.
“Caught? Oh, that’s not the problem. The problem is that I probably can’t avoid not inviting your entire family to the wedding and I don’t know how to look at Steve after being busted fucking in his room,” he says. “And apparently this isn’t even the first time you’ve done that.”
He shrugs, “dad was always on about Steve this, Steve that, be more like Steve, Steve’s the son I always dreamed of and you’re a disappointment so I figured fuck it, Steve’s a low bar to hit. To be fair everyone who’s slept with us both says I’m better so guess Steve should be more like me,” he says, grinning as Peter rolls his eyes.
“Oh my god Tony. Just tell me we can leave as soon as everyone is asleep,” he says.
He laughs but nods, giving Peter’s nose a kiss. “Yeah baby, we can leave as soon as they’re asleep. And speaking of weddings,” he murmurs, pulling himself off the bed and grabbing the pants Steve so lovingly threw back into his room.
Thankfully the ring didn’t fall out of the pocket because he’d worked hard to find something Peter would like. He hands it off to him and sits, “I don’t expect you to sign a fucking prenup either, Howard can eat shit.”
Peter stares at it, stunned. “Seriously? Is this like, an actual proposal or is this just a ring?”
Tony draws him in for a kiss. “Of course it’s a proposal, you don’t not sign prenups for ‘just rings,’” he points out.
Peter squeals and throws his arms around him, “oh my god, yes!”

I’m reading HITHYD and I saw what u said about Steve choosing Peggy being in character to you. As much as I love ur fics, I politely disagree. Only bc I know that based on the other movies, Steve’s main motivation has always been Bucky. And then he found a new family (Sam, Nat, Tony, and what was supposed to be Sharon). And also based JR said about Steggy being one kiss in a moving car (brutal), all of this led me to believe that Steve would’ve rathered stayed. EG!Steve seemed very OOC to me :(
(2) Not trying to start a fight or anything, bc ur allowed to have ur own opinion. I just personally don’t like the idea of Steve leaving his friends and family to go back to the past for one person, albeit a great person, but nonetheless EG!Steve really did confuse and upset me. (Also the logistics of it all was just WHEW). I never saw him as a person to willingly leave the ppl he loves for someone that had a life of their own already. That’s just me tho ! Just wanted to talk to u about it
I don’t remember what I wrote when I started that story but here is my opinion on Endgame Steve. First, let me say that Endgame has a lot of problems storywise. There are things that would have been better done another way but...well, it is what it is.
I like that he got a happy ending with the woman he loved. I think that with the choice so clearly set before him--just having the option available--of course he was going to take it. He had never been able to forget Peggy. She was a central part of his story in every movie (as was Bucky, totally not saying he wasn’t). Before Bucky showed up in WS, Steve was just kind of floating around, trying to live his new life in modern times. Then Bucky shows up and he latches onto that part of his past.
Bucky becomes his anchor in a sense. Yeah, Buck’s got other things to deal with and Steve has obligations that he won’t walk away from so he does create a new family with Nat and Sam and for a while I think he is pretty “satisfied” with his new life.
There are a lot of problems with this new life in my opinion, a big one for me was that half assed relationship with Sharon (which gets kinda icky when you think about Endgame which I will get to in a bit). He hadn’t, to date by the time that Endgame rolled around, had a significant relationship. That part of his life was just void (and it should be noted that I am not a Stucky shipper. I get what people are saying when they state this as evidence but it isn’t canon as much as some wish it was--I honestly wouldn’t have even minded it being canon but it isn’t).
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is, he loses Bucky, his anchor to modern day in IW, and while he has some of his teammates, clearly they’re not really connecting.Tony’s living his own life. Nat has taken up the helm at the compound. Everyone’s kinda scattered doing their thing so, I think other than the occasional visit which is what we saw him doing with Nat in EG, he’s kinda been alone.
And this is all just speculation. This is how I rationalize EG because while I loved it, I can definitely admit that it was problematic.
Anywho, they do the time heist and suddenly Steve sees this possibility that never existed before. He’d thought he’d lost Peggy and any form of a life that he might have lived with her. It’s his biggest regret. The first thing he thinks about when he wakes up after being pulled from the ice is Peggy. Now that everyone is safe. With Tony gone. With Nat gone. With the Earth in good hands, I think he finally felt like he could finally--as was discussed earlier in the movie--get a life.
Now, as far as Peggy already having had a life...this gets a little technical? It took me a while to understand what Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely meant when they said that the kids we see in WS are actually and have always been Steve’s kids. Meaning that rather than time being linear, it’s more like a big loop. Everything happening all at once.
There was always two Steve’s in the modern timeline. One in the ice. The other living his life in secret with Peggy. I’m not saying that this isn’t problematic, just that this is what the writers relayed. So the man that Peggy marries from the very beginning is the Steve that goes back in time in Endgame. Because he always goes back in time and they always get together and have kids. Old man Steve is at her funeral, hiding around because young Steve is obviously there too. And this is where the icky parts about Sharon come into play because if this is what the writers use to explain the timelines...then Sharon made out with her great uncle? lol oh, man...
Anyway, this got too long. I totally understand where you’re coming from but as much as I disagree with the way that the story went (because I would not have sent him back in time either tbh), I can understand the choice with the character set up as he was.
All of this is just my understanding, speculation, and satisfaction with Steve’s happy ending. I think if Chris Evans hadn’t been done with the character they might have done more with him. Taken it in a different direction but he was done and they had to do something more permanent than just having him retire I guess.
Either way, I’m glad you’re reading my stories. I hope you’re liking HitHYD despite our difference of opinion. xoxo

Notes: Here it is, my beloved prologue of AM&FL! I’m so excited for you guys to read it. I really hope you like it because I had a ton of fun writing it. Let me know what you think!
Series Summary: You are a Stark. You are to be married to Harley, who will take over the company if you ever die a tragic and untimely death. So what happens when you find the love of your life along the way?
Arranged Marriages & Forbidden Love - Prologue
Peter Parker x Stark!Reader
Word Count: 2,450
Warnings: Brief description of a mugging, there’s not much Peter in this.
| Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 |
You look up at your dad, Tony Stark, with wide eyes. He’s talking to a woman around his age, maybe a little younger, you can’t tell. Whatever they’re talking about, though, seems important.
A little boy peeks out from behind his mother’s legs, the woman your father is talking to. He walks up to you.
“Hi...I’m Harley.” He grins.
“I’m (Y/n)!” You giggle.
“Do you want to be my friend?” He asks, suddenly nervous. You nod.
“Yeah! Do you want to come and see my toys?” You grab his arm and run with him to your room. You show him your room with all of your tech gadgets your father has given you to play with throughout the years. Truth is, you’re a genius already, thanks to your dad.
“(Y/n)?” Tony walks into the room.
“Daddy!” You launch yourself into his arms. He picks you up and twirls you around in the air.
“Hey, munchkin. Can you and I have a chat real quick?” He asks, setting you on his hip. You nod innocently.
“Only if it’s a rousing discussion about truth, honor, and patriotism.” You giggle. He laughs.
“I see you’ve been hanging out with your uncle Loki a bit too much. Did he show you his impression of uncle Steve?” He taps your nose jokingly. You giggle and nod.
“Yup! And his impression of you, too!” You laugh. He smiles and sets you down once you’re alone.
“That’s all fun, (Y/n/n), but...there is something serious I need to talk to you about.” His face falls from the smile it once held.
“Oh...okay.” You frown, waiting for the worst.
“Well, uh, I know you’re only eight, but...that boy you just met is going to be your husband one day.” He explains slowly. You make a face.
“Husband? That’s ridiculous! I’m never getting married!” You giggle, sticking your tongue out. He chuckles lightly.
“Well, that’s funny, darling. You’ll want to eventually, I think. It’ll be Harley when you do. I’ll explain it more as you get older but for now, that’s all you need to know.” He pats your head. You scrunch your nose up and giggle, running out of the room. Tony sighs and watches you go, knowing you’ll be more defiant in the matter as you grow up.
You run back to your room and see Harley sitting on the floor, one of the tech pieces in his hands.
“Harley!” You grin and grab your own piece of technology. He looks up at you curiously.
“My mommy said that you’re gonna be my wife.” Harley tilts his head to the side, blinking his wide eyes as he stares at you.
“That’s what my dad said, too. That means we’ll be best friends forever!” You yell, dissolving into a giggling fit with him.
“Yeah, I guess so! It won’t be bad!” He nods joyously.
“Are you gonna stay here? With me and my dad in the tower?” You gasp, a smile lighting up your young face.
“Mhm. Mommy said she’ll come to visit me a lot but I’ll live here.” He nods. You tackle him in a hug.
“Yay! Best friends forever!” You hug his neck. He laughs and hugs you back.
You think back on that day a lot.
That was a long time ago, you’re surprised you even remember it. You hear the TV in the background, a clip of your father at a press conference showing up on the news.
“Mr. Stark, is your daughter a superhero?”
“What? No! Are you crazy? I would never involve her in such a dangerous business.”
“You heard it here first, folks. Obsidian cannot be (Y/n) Stark--”
“(Y/n/n), you there?” Your dad snaps in front of your face.
“Huh? Oh, yeah, sorry. I got...lost in thought.” You shake yourself out of it, getting back in the zone.
“I told you that since you’re fifteen now, I’m going to start letting you go on patrol with the other fifteen-year-old I recruited recently. I feel like you two are strong enough to fight crime together. And if not, call me. Understand?” He asks, giving you a pointed look. You nod.
“Yes, sir.” You mockingly salute him.
“Good. I’ll see you later tonight after your patrol. And remember, nothing more than muggings and the occasional small robbery, got it? If you see anything bigger than that happening, call me.” He instructs. You nod again.
“Got it, dad. Who is this boy anyway?” You keep from yawning. You’re just ready to go on your first patrol without your dad.
“Spider-Man is his name. I’ll let you guys decide whether or not you want to know each other’s true identities.” He waves his hand flippantly. You grin.
“Great! I’ll see you later, dad!” You kiss his cheek pull your mask on, jumping out the window.
“Hey, are you Obsidian?” A boy climbs on the side of the tower, close to the window you just jumped out of. You have small jets of fire coming out of the hands and feet of your black spandex-like suit, similar to the suit style of the boy in front of you.
“Yeah, you Spider-Man?” You ask. He nods.
“Yup, that’s me. It’s good to finally meet you. Mr. Stark was going on and on about the teen superhero I’d be working with.” The eyes on his mask go wide.
“Yeah, he kept talking about you, too. Question is, do we want to know each other’s identity?” You ask.
“No, let’s keep it a secret. It’s more ominous that way.” He jokes.
“I agree, but for a different reason. I think it keeps our superhero personas different from our normal lives. More separated, you know?” You offer. He thinks about it for a second then nods.
“Yeah, you’re right. The vote is unanimous, we stay anonymous!” You can tell he’s smiling under his mask.
“Are you just trying to show off with big words?” You laugh.
“Me? Showing off? Never.” He puts a hand to his chest, pretending to be offended.
“Right. Never.” You nod and wink, falling into a fit of laughter. You can tell that you’re going to work well with this guy.
“I know you two are still out there on the side. Get to patrolling!” Your dad calls from inside, through the window you just jumped out of.
“Sorry, Mr. Stark!” Spider-Man apologizes and the two of you are off into the night.
~+~
After an entire night of patrolling and fighting small crimes, you and Spider-Man are both heading back to the tower for the night.
You hear a cry for help on the way.
“Help me!” A teenage girl’s voice is heard in a back alley. You and Spider-Man jump into action, flying (or swinging in his case) into the alley.
You land and see a girl around your age getting mugged. You and Spider-Man quickly go to stop the attackers. There’s two of them, you each get one.
You charge at the one you choose and kick him to the ground. Spider-Man takes the other.
The man you chose gets back up and grabs your arm, yanking you closer to him. He grabs your mask and rips it off your head. In a dash, you’ve grabbed it back and put it on again. The man didn’t see who you were.
But, according to the girl’s expression, she saw exactly who you were.
You end the fight soon after, your anger getting to you. You shove the guy to the ground and shoot a tranquilizer dart at him from your wrist.
He’s out cold.
“Done.” Spider-Man rubs his hands together as if he were getting rid of dust.
“Perfect, we’re through then.” You hand the girl back her purse.
“Are we going to ignore the fact that I just saw that you’re (Y/n) St--”
“Spider-Man, can you give us a second?” You interrupt her, knowing that she’s already ruined your identity to Spider-Man.
“Holy crap, Obsidian, you’re Tony’s daughter?” Spider-Man gasps. You groan.
“Don’t say a word about it to anyone, Spidey. Got it?” You growl.
“I won’t, I swear. Do you want to know who I am?” He asks, almost like he’s returning a favor.
“No. This girl already knows my identity, why add yours?” You deadpan.
“Oh, right. Sorry.” His eyes on the mask narrow.
“I’m Michelle Jones, by the way. My friends call me MJ.” She introduces herself.
“Nice to meet you, MJ. Are you headed home?” You ask. She nods.
“Uh, yeah, I was but...I’m not feeling very safe anymore.” She jokes, but you can tell she’s slightly serious about what she’s saying.
“We can walk you home if you want.” Spider-Man offers. She shakes her head, insisting she’ll be fine.
“You can stay with me at the Avengers Compound tonight. It’s less than a two-minute flight from here, I can take you. I’ll take you to your apartment tomorrow morning.” You suggest.
“Are you...serious?” MJ raises her eyebrows, thinking that no one like you would associate with a girl like her.
“Completely. Plus, you seem cool. And you already know my identity so there’s nothing to hide.” You shrug. She nods.
“Yeah, that’d be cool.” She plays it cool. Inside, she’s a bit more excited than she lets on.
“Great. See you tomorrow night for patrol, Spider-Man.” You say your goodbyes and before you know it, you’re flying MJ back to the Avengers compound.
“Kid, you’re back! How was your first night on patrol-- who’s this?” Your dad greets you as you fly into the compound.
“Her name’s MJ, she’s a new friend of mine. Got mugged so I’m letting her stay the night here.” You explain quickly.
“There’s a small problem in that. You see, you’re masked.” He points out. You take the mask off, letting your hair frame your face wildly after being shoved in that small space.
“She already knows. Mugger took it off mid-battle. It’s okay, though, he didn’t see my identity.” You throw the mask to the side. Tony looks a little disapproving but doesn’t say anything about it.
“So every time you’re in interviews and they ask if (Y/n) is Obsidian, you say no. You’re lying? You’ve been lying this whole time?” MJ pipes up, curiosity shining in her eyes.
Yeah, you two are going to get along just fine.
“Yup.” Your dad remarks, putting emphasis on popping the ‘p’.
“Cool.” She nods, playing it cool again. You have a feeling she does this often.
“Well, we’re going to go to my room. Have you seen Harley?” You ask.
“Yeah, he’s in his room. He’s still awake. Said he couldn’t sleep until you got home safe.” Tony points to the hallway your room is down as he absentmindedly starts typing away on his computer, probably upgrading his suit again.
“Sounds good, thanks, dad!” You yell as you and MJ run down the hall, stopping as a door swings open right next to yours.
“(Y/n), thank goodness you’re okay. How did patrol go?” Harley steps out, clearly relieved.
“Went fine, nothing too out of the ordinary. This is my new friend, MJ, though. MJ, meet Harley. Harley, meet MJ.” You introduce the two. They hit it off.
“Nice to meet you.” MJ shakes Harley’s hand.
“You, too. Are we all gonna hang out tomorrow?” He asks.
“I’d like to if it’s okay with MJ’s parents.” You nod. She smiles slightly.
“I’m sure it will be.” She doesn’t let herself get too excited.
“Perfect. C’mon, let’s go!” You drag her into your room, away from Harley. He tells you he’s going to bed as MJ shuts the door on him. You snicker.
“(Y/n)...Harley is cute.” MJ whispers to you. You laugh.
“I mean, I guess he is. I dunno, he’s my best friend and I don’t really see him that way.” You shrug. She seems surprised that you’re not more into him.
“Alright...well, does he have a girlfriend?” She muses as her interest level drops. It doesn’t actually drop, but how much she’s showing it does. She likes to keep an external chill, you realize. She doesn’t like showing any emotion but boredom or slightly happy.
“Um, sorta? I wouldn’t really call her, like, his girlfriend or anything. But technically, I guess he does.” You frown, trying to think what you would call the situation.
“Oh, that’s...cool. Is it anyone you think I’d know?” She hums, bringing a book out of her backpack. You bite your lip and fiddle with a piece of technology that was strewn about your room.
“Yeah, it’s me.” You whisper, but she hears you.
“You’re kidding, right?” MJ loses all focus on her book, her eyes trained purely on you.
“No. We’re in an arranged marriage, which is why I wouldn’t call him my boyfriend or anything.” You grow nervous under her stare.
“That’s messed up. You’re fifteen and this isn’t the olden days. You shouldn’t be in an arranged marriage.” She makes a face. She’s very opinionated, but you’re not complaining. You’re not exactly happy about the situation either, but you’ve grown tired of arguing over it.
“I know but my dad says that I’m going to go under his wing and take over the business when I’m twenty-three. So once I’m out of college and taking over the business, I need a non-crime fighting non-superhero husband and…that’s Harley. It’s, like, just in case I die or anything while I’m fighting bad guys as Obsidian. Or if I’m just not around while fighting bad guys and the business needs to be controlled in my absence. He’ll be here to take over the business and he’s still super smart so it works out. Plus we’re close. Not in that way, but close enough to where it’s not super weird or anything.” You explain, yawning slightly from having to tell the same boring story over and over to everyone you meet.
You don’t meet a lot of new people, though.
“That’s super weird. Do you fight the matter?” MJ scrunches up her nose, slightly revolted at the thought of marrying someone she didn’t want to.
You sigh.
“I’ve tried but it never works. It’s my life and I have to live it, why not accept it instead of growing to resent it? That’ll only make things worse. Besides, I don’t really believe in love or anything, so it’ll never work for me. I’ll be stuck with friendship no matter who I marry. There’s no point in fighting the inevitable.” You set the piece of technology down and look up at MJ. She’s looking back at you with a serious expression.
“Sometimes all you need is the right person for you to find something to fight for again. That includes fighting for love.”

Bullet List of My Very Random Thoughts on Endgame
Don't click the keep reading link if you haven't seen the movie yet. I don’t want to be responsible for ruining your first watch of the movie. Serious, guys. Only click if you’ve seen it.
I really enjoyed it and I'm happy to suspend my disbelief with almost all of the time travel plot element. All things considered, it was masterfully executed and a beautiful love letter to the characters, movies, and fans.
My original six lovelies:
- Tony's arc was beautiful and heartbreaking but in a very satisfying way. I think most of us saw that one coming with the way IW set him up against Thanos. It was that much more poignant when you saw he was happy with Pepper and their little girl but still couldn’t step away from helping make things right if he had the ability. Pepper knew he couldn’t avoid involving himself despite not wanting to jeopardize his life with her, so her encouragement at the beginning and her comment to him right before he died (“We’re going to be okay. You can rest.”) just break my fucking heart. So does Peter crying over a wounded and dying Tony, telling him they won. Oh man. The waterworks were something fierce.
- Nat was a surprise but packed a shockingly hard punch for me. Maybe that was in part because it WAS a surprise and also because when we opened the movie she felt so fragile even though she was the one keeping the hope alive. That moment with her sad little sandwich and the news about Clint being so far off the rails that Steve interrupts? That alone made my heart hurt for her. My stomach dropped when I saw her and Clint climbing the mountain on Vormir as I realized what had to happen to get the Soul Stone. I was hopeful they could game the system and jump off the cliff together and both live, but I understand why this would cheapen it. She always felt like the glue that kept all these big personalities and big egos together, so it hurts that she’s gone and the group has been fractured with Tony’s death and Steve being out of the game.
- As for Clint--I’m assuming he returns to the family man life unless something big comes up in the future. I don’t know anything about Renner’s contract, but I’d like to see Hawkeye again. The hair and the sword and the arms and tats and revenge attitude really did it for me. How very dare they make him look this edible.
- Thor coping with grief by drinking beer (that beer belly, though!) and playing video games with Korg and Miek was actually refreshing and endearing. I know some people didn’t like seeing him that way, but it gives his character so much depth. Besides, he was back to his kickass self by the end of the movie. I do love that he handed over New Asgard to Valkyrie to rule, and I hope we see him pop into movies in the future, especially with that adorable rivalry between him and Quill.
- Bruce and his newfound truce with Hulk was a delight to see and completely unexpected. Also, Bruce/Hulk with the muscles and the voice and the five o’clock shadow and the glasses? Ummmm... ::is tempted to write Hulky Bruce smut:: I hope he’ll be in future movies.
- Steve. Ahh, Steve. I loved the fight with himself and the funny little winks to the viewers with the lines (America’s Ass, “I can do this all day”, “Hail Hydra”). I loved that he was encouraging others to move on when he couldn’t seem to do so himself. I LOVED him wielding Mjolnir, especially when the lightning started flying out of it. Thor’s reaction to that (”I knew it!”) was adorable. But, I’m torn with Steve’s storyline. I wanted him to get his happily ever after. I was dreading seeing him die in this movie, which I thought was definitely going to happen. But what was so shocking to me was that he got exactly what I wanted him to get but it felt so cheap to me. I left the movie satisfied with everything but the way they ended things with Steve, and yet I couldn’t seem to put my finger on why I started hating it the more I thought about it. I know a ton of people are Stucky ‘shippers and, while I love his relationship with Bucky, I’ve never ‘shipped them together. I’m not thrilled about the way they glossed over that relationship, but I understand the necessity because of time constraints. I don’t mind that Steve handed the Shield off to Sam because I assumed either he or Bucky (or even both) would pick it up in Steve’s absence. Bucky would have been a nice full circle between the two of them on their separate paths, but I also understand why it was given to Sam. Bucky obviously knew exactly what was going on, though I thought the distance between him and Steve was a bit strange. Maybe they were trying to make a point of showing that Steve and Bucky have both changed. Whatever. I can live with it, I guess. No one wanted Steve to get his happy ending more than me. So, what gives? I couldn’t figure out why it felt so wrong and cheap and like the worst kind of fan service. @bulmavegotaku sent me THIS ARTICLE which actually articulates what has been bothering me. Just because I wanted a happy ending for Steve doesn’t mean that it was what was best or even what was in-character for him. I know other people thought that him hiding in the past to live his life with Peggy WAS in-character, but I don’t think it was at all. And that’s not even to mention the fuckery with Peggy’s timeline. Yeah, yeah, they left the question of who Steve married up in the air by not having him divulge that info when Sam asked, but I’m not stupid. He says she’s the love of his life. If he’s going back, he’s not going to share a dance with her and then go marry some other chick in the past. Please. And that makes Steve Sharon’s uncle. Which is... weird and WTF. But maybe they thought we’d forget all that since it is now an alternate reality or whatever. So, Steve’s “ending” was the one major thing I really didn’t like. I’m sure one day I’ll write some fic that branches off into an AU in which it didn’t happen that way. It’s a little too fresh right now for me to tackle, though. I need to get the bad taste out of my mouth.
Other things I liked:
- Nebula’s dynamic and (at times) heartbreaking storyline as we watched her internal struggle actually play out in front of us with two Nebulas. My heart dropped when Rhodey was able to return to the present time on Earth, but she got trapped in the past with Thanos. I’m so happy she survived. Plus, her game of finger football with Tony was so goddamn endearing for both of them.
- Gamora being alive and the thought of watching her future interactions with Quill all over again. I love the sexual tension and the chase for sure. However, if past Gamora ends up in present time, then did all that stuff with Quill and the other Guardians even happen? Her past self is in the present and so is Nebula’s past self. Plus, Thanos plays a part (even if he’s off-screen) in much of the two Guardians movies, so if his past self died in the present, did this create some sort of alternate reality in which the things we witnessed didn’t actually happen in that way? This kinda ties in with my dislike of Steve’s storyline. Too much fucking with time travel begins to unravel the plot and create holes that I start picking at.
- Thanos turning to dust. So so so satisfying. What an absolutely arrogant turd.
- “On your left.” What a wonderful moment when you heard Sam’s voice and saw T’Challa appear from that portal followed by all of the others.
- While I didn’t enjoy it, I did think the fight between Steve and an emaciated and exhausted Tony at the beginning of the movie was so well done and well-acted. What a low point to climb out from.
- The scene in the beginning when they kill Thanos was also pretty low, but I thought a great way to start the movie. You can kill the bad guy, but that won’t change all the bad he did.
- I feel like Scott Lang is all of us. The scene with him outside when his taco blows away was so wonderful. And the scene in the diner when the kids want pics with Hulky Bruce, but not poor Antman. So awkward and so funny.
- The closure that Tony got with his dad. Oh man, that was the best and made even better because he was a father himself at that moment. Thor being able to speak with his mother and move forward from that was also unexpected but so needed for his character, especially at that moment.
- While I love Carol Danvers and the Captain Marvel movie, I didn’t want her to come in and steal the show from the core group of Avengers as we ended this era of the movies. I’m pleased with the way they used her to rescue Tony and Nebula and then go off to bring some order to the rest of the universe before returning to help in that final battle.
- Speaking of Carol--the scene during the battle when she takes the new gauntlet from Peter in an effort to get it away from Thanos and all the badass women fall in line behind her to assist brings a tear to my eye. What made it even better is it caused the two bros seated beside me to mutter and wiggle uncomfortably in their chairs because it was obvious they didn’t really like that part. As Beyonce would say, “Suck on my balls,” boys.
- Wanda’s white (red?) hot rage toward Thanos when she finally came toe-to-toe with him during the battle. YES. I was cheering her on.
- Steve’s ass. Oh, I’m sorry America’s ass.
- Did I mention Steve wielding Mjolnir?
- Loki being the sneaky little snake he is and grabbing the Tesseract during the confusion when Tony gets hit by the flying door. And Hulk screaming in frustration about how many stairs there are since he wasn’t allowed to ride on the elevator with everyone else.
- Bucky’s luxurious hair. Although, I do want my beefy Civil War Bucky back. On a side note, can someone please please please fix Sam’s facial hair before the next movie or show? Please? I do not like it at all. Anthony Mackie, please go back to WS or CW facial hair. I’m begging you.
I’m ready for more Guardians of the Galaxy featuring Thor. I’m ready to finally watch the first Spiderman movie before the new one comes out. (Don’t shoot me for not seeing it yet!) I’m pumped for more Carol as Captain Marvel. I love the original characters the best, but I understand we have to move forward and I’m trying to embrace these new babies even though they aren’t Tony or Nat or Steve. I’m consoling myself with Bucky and Sam right now.
And most of all, I’m excited to start writing again. I started something last night, but I don’t want to give many details until I know if what I threw on the wall is going to stick. If it does, then it’ll be Wintershock, take place after Endgame, and will probably be fluffy and free of life and death situations. My heart can’t take any more of that between Endgame and Game of Thrones. I’ll pop in periodically to keep anyone who cares updated on new material from me. Can’t wait to see you again over on AO3 this summer!

You stare at a baby picture of Lily as your mind races. What were you going to tell her? You wanted her to have the choice of knowing Bucky but you didn’t want to ambush her by taking her with you to the country club where he would be. Letting out a sigh you hear a knock on your bedroom door and you turn to see Lily standing there her hands folded over her chest. “You wanted to see me?”
“Yeah, come in sweetheart.” You reply patting the bed for her to sit next to you. “You’re not in trouble if that’s what you’re wondering.” You add making her let out a sigh of relief making you smile. “Lily, if you had a chance to meet your real father, would you want too?” Lily pauses for a moment and you can tell she has a million thoughts running through her head.
“Does… Does he want to meet me?” She asks and you nod slightly.
“He would like to yes; but I told him it was completely up to you.”
“What about dad? Won’t he be upset?”
“No sweetie,” Thor says from the doorway as he walks over to kneel down in front of the two of you. “Lily, I’m your dad. Nothing will ever change that. I won’t be upset or angry if you want to meet him. I actually think it’s a good idea for you to know him.”
“You do?” She asks and he nods as he takes her hands in his.
“Lily, I’m not gonna tell you what to do. In the end it’s up to you. I’ll still be here for you no matter what happens.” She smiles as she leans forward and pulling her hands from his wraps his arms around his neck.
“I love you daddy,” She says holding him tightly.
“I love you too sweetheart.” He replies hugging her back his eyes finding you. You smile softly before the sound of the doorbell catches your ears. “Before we leave, what do you want to do?”
“I… I’d like to meet him. If that’s okay. I don’t even know what he looks like.” Lily answers and you nod.
“Okay baby, I’ll let him know. We’ll talk about a day and then go from there.” You reply gently running your fingers through her hair while Thor smiled reassuringly at her. The doorbell rings again and you ruffle her hair as you say, “We’ll be back later.”
“Will you tell grandma and Grandpa I said hi?” She asks and Thor nods.
“Of course, they’ll be sad they missed seeing you.” Thor says and you smile as you stand up and moving over to the window look out to see Hela and Loki standing next to a limo talking amongst themselves.
“Darcy must be here.” You say before reaching over to grab your shawl.
“How come I can’t stay with Uncle Loki?” Lily asks and you smile.
“Because he has to be there tonight as well. Why, do you not like Darcy?” You ask cocking an eyebrow at her.
“Darcy’s cool, but uncle Loki’s better.” She replies making Thor chuckle.
“Of course, he is.” You reply a smile filling your lips. The doorbell rings again and Lily runs from the room to answer the door leaving you and Thor alone for a moment. He looks you up and down as a hunger fills his eyes making your body shiver in anticipation. “Don’t look at me like that.” You say your face flushing pink.
“Like what?” He asks inching closer to you heat filling his blue orbs.
“Like you’re undressing me with your eyes.”
“Now that I can’t help.” He replies coming to stand directly in front of you as he places a kiss on your lips passionate enough to make your knees buckle. His arm wraps around your waist steadying you.
“If you keep that up your brother and sister will kill you for making them late.” You reply as you pull away from him. He groans in annoyance before he nods and takes your hand.
“Let’s get this evening over with so I can bring you back here and get you naked.” He says making your chuckle.
“Do I have a say?” You ask making him stare at you for a moment.
“Do you not want too?” He asks and you decide not to mess with his emotions.
“Of course, I want too. When do I ever not want too?” You ask making him think for a moment and he is about to answer when you give him a look and he stops. “Good choice there. Now, shall we go?”
“Of course, my lady.” He replies making you chuckle.
~~~~
Bucky lets out a heavy sigh as Steve pulls up at the valet line outside the country club doors. His nerves were shot. As much as he wanted to see her again, he also didn’t. Seeing her now would solidify what he had done. Bucky rubs the back of his neck as he tries to calm down. “You okay?” Steve asks causing Bucky to nod in reply.
“Do you, do you think this is a good idea?” Bucky asks as they wait for the valet to come to their car.
“What do you mean?” Steve asks keeping his eyes in front of him.
“I know she’s happy, she’s a hell of a lot happier than when she was with me.”
“Buck-”
“I’m being serious Steve, I know it’s too late to say that when I found out she was happy I should have left her alone. I know I should have. I was just jealous. I guess, that after everything that happened she was able to move on and be happy.”
“What about Lily?” Steve asks his eyes staring over at Bucky with concern.
“It royally crushed me to learn I had a daughter I didn’t know. Hell, I still don’t know her; but I don’t blame (Name) for not telling me. I’m a shitty person. I not only fucked up her life, but I’m fucking up Dot’s as well. That’s one of the reason’s I ended it before we left.”
“Wait, you broke up with Dot?” Steve asks confusion filling his face. “Why didn’t you say anything when I was accusing you earlier?”
“I don’t know. I guess I felt like I needed the truth from you.”
“What else happened for you two to end it?” Steve asks making Bucky sigh.
“She was talking about us moving on, getting married, having kids; and I realized that I didn’t want that with her. I love her, I do, but there was only one person I wanted any of those things with and it wasn’t her. I told her we couldn’t be together anymore. She wasn’t having any of it until I told her I was still married. When I said that she slapped me and then left. That was the last time I talked to her. I want her to move on from me. I want her to be happy. Dot deserves all those things and more, I’m not the one who can give them to her.”
“I have to say I’m surprised at you.” Steve replies as he runs a hand through his hair.
“One day, she’ll find someone else, just like (Name) did.” Bucky replies straightening his tie.
“And what about you?” Steve asks making Bucky shrug his shoulders.
“I think it’s time I stop thinking about myself and start thinking about others. I’ve been selfish too long.”
~~~~~~~
You sat in the conference room Thor beside you as you drum your fingers atop the table in front of you. It was almost time for Bucky to show himself and you couldn’t help but feel nervous. There were a million scenarios running through your head about how this was gonna turn out. Most of them ended badly. Your heartbeat raced in your chest making your stomach churn. You silently wished for this night to end quickly and on a good note.
“Don’t worry babe, it’ll be okay. I’m here if you need me.” Thor says reassuringly as he rubs your shoulders.
“I know. Thank you.” You reply giving him a forced smile. He knew how stressed out you were. He also knew there was nothing more he could do than to just be there for you. A knock on the door only solidifies your fear. The door opens and Steve pokes his head inside. You give him a slight wave of your hand and he offers you a soft smile before he walks inside followed by Bucky. You felt your breath catch at the sight of him. He looked rough. Even if you were angry at him and in a way hated him you still didn’t wish him any harm.
“Thank you for agreeing to meet me.” Bucky says as he avoids looking you in the eyes as he moves to sit across from you.
“It’s not like you gave me much choice.” You reply making his brow furrow as he nods. Clearing his throat, he opens his jacket up and reaching inside his chest pocket produces an envelope. Setting it down on the table he finally meets your eyes.
“I owe you this. I’m sorry it’s taken so long.” He says before he slides it over to you. Cocking an eyebrow, you reach down and grabbing the envelope you open it to see the signed divorce papers. Your eyes widen in shock. “I should have signed those a long time ago.”
“James,” You start suddenly at a complete loss for words.
“I owe you an apology and I know it might not mean much now but I just want to say I’m sorry. I was stupid. I went searching for the wrong thing and it cost us so much. I’m glad you found someone so much better than I am. I sincerely wish the best for you both.” He adds and you just stare dumbfounded. Out of all the scenarios you had seen in your head, this wasn’t one of them. Clearing your throat, you set the papers back down onto the table.
“What about Lily?” You ask making his eyes fall to the table.
“I would like to meet her; but not if it will cause problems. I, at the very least, would like a picture of her. I’ve never seen what she looks like.” Bucky says and you glance at Thor who nods slightly at you and you take a deep breath before you pull your cell phone out and pulling up her picture you slide it across the table for him to see. Taking the phone, he lifts it up and a light fills his face making the pained expression he had worn earlier disappear. “This is her?” He asks and you nod. “She has my eyes.”
“I know she does. You don't know how confusing it is when someone you love so much looks like someone you hate.” You reply making his eyes turn sad but instead of arguing he nods.
“You have every right to hate me (Name).” Bucky replies and you suddenly feel bad for ruining the moment.
“I talked to Lily about you.” You pause your eyes examining his every reaction. “She’d like to meet you too.”
“She would?” Bucky asks light filling his face again.
“Yes,” You reply holding your hand out for your phone. “I told her I’d talk to you about a day when you two can meet. Of course, we’ll be there as well.” He hands you your phone as he nods.
“Can I get that picture of her?” He asks and you nod. “So when can I see her?”
~~~~~~~~
Loki sat at the bar with his sister Hela talking about nothing much really. They were both concerned about how the conversation with (Name’s) baby daddy was going but wasn’t about to interrupt unless they were needed. Loki orders another drink for himself as Hela says, “(Name) is stronger than I thought she’d be.”
“She’s grown since we first met her.” Loki replies as the bartender places the drink in front of him.
“She had to. Not many single mothers put their children before themselves.” Hela replies turning to brace her back against the bar. Loki could tell his sister didn’t want to be here. Truth be told he didn’t want to be here either. If it was any other night Hela and himself would have gracefully declined to spend a night pretending to be the perfect children of their wealthy parents. Tonight, was only different because (Name) might need them. They’d do anything for her and Lily. They might have problems with their brother every now and again but he was still their brother and they loved him.
“How do you think it’s going?” Loki asks suddenly worrying about his brother.
“Well, considering no alarms have gone off, I’d say it’s going well.” Hela replies making him smirk. He is about to reply when they sound of someone at the other end of the bar catches his attention.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for James Barnes, have you seen him?” A girl with auburn hair asks making both Loki and Hela look at her.
“Well this isn’t going to end well.” Loki says grabbing his drink.
“A part of me wants to cause chaos by showing her where he is.” Hela replies downing her beer.
“And the other part?” Loki asks finishing his drink.
“Wants to crush her under the heel of my boot.” Hela replies setting the bottle on the bar. Before Loki can reply Hela flips her hair and walks over to the unsuspecting red headed girl a sly smile on her face.
“This will not end well.” Loki says but makes no attempt to stop her.
~~~~~~
You were surprised at how serious Bucky was being about Lily; but then again, his whole demeanor this evening had surprised you. Maybe he had changed. The two of you sat there talking back and forth and coming up with plans for him to see Lily when a knock on the door pulls their attention towards it. You cock an eyebrow as Hela walks through the door a sly smile on her lips. “Excuse the interruption but I found something that I believe belongs to your baby daddy.” She says as she opens the door more to reveal a face you hoped you’d never see again.
“Sorry for intruding.” She says as she shyly walks into the room her eyes instantly finding Bucky.
“Dot… What are you doing here?” He asks making your eyes shoot to him a mixture of anger and betrayal filling your body. His eyes instantly shoot back to you as they fill with fear. “(Name) I swear, I didn’t invite her here.” There were a million questions and accusations filling your mind but instead of voicing them you just shake your head.
“You can see Lily this weekend.” You then stand up and without another word you leave the room Thor close behind you. As you pass her, your eyes meet her green orbs and you are suddenly tossed back in time to when you found out Bucky was cheating on you. Your heart clenches and you quickly look away. Without so much as another word you leave them both behind and make your way to the car. You didn’t want to be around either of them anymore.
