unfinished made inevitable fic

Paul Matthews crawled on the ground of the Starlight Theater in downtown Hatchetfield, smoke rising from inside the building as he tried to make his way to the exit. He hated it, he hated the theater. All that singing, all that noise, all moving as one. And yet, he was just so at peace because of it, so calm, the voice in his head gentle, singular. One mind, one man.

Paul looked up as the flames consumed the building, his legs aching from the explosion he caused when he let go of the pin, exploding the meteor that rested on the stage. He saw a figure, a tall man walking over to him as his eyes closed, his hands gave out, and he felt his head hit the carpeted floor of the Starlight Theater.

Paul arose in a small room, unsure of where he was. He felt his head pound, thoughts going through it so fast he couldn’t keep everything on track. So much noise, he hated it. He almost missed when everything was easy, when he let his mind go free and let himself sing and dance. He felt good, he felt alive, yet so painfully dead at the same time. What a strange feeling.

The door clicked open, as a tall man in a jean jacket with pins on it stepped into his small room, sitting down on his bed, “You’re awake,” he smiled slightly, wicked almost, a passion in those bright blue eyes, an undying fire roaring from the beyond.

“Who are you?” Paul looked up at him, as the man touched the back of his hand to Paul’s head.

“Wilbur, Wilbur Cross. And you’re Paul Matthews. I’ve heard a lot about you,” He leaned back on the wall, his eyes trailing Paul’s figure from under the blanket.

“I don’t know how you would know me, I’ve never met you before.”

“Oh, my friend John has told me lots about you. You could see him soon,” Wilbur crossed his arms, watching Paul’s face intently, as if looking for a sign, a hint of something Paul didn’t know.

“You knew John? John MacNamara?” Paul questioned him, Wilbur letting out a slight laugh.

“I knew everything about him. We worked together,” Wilbur held his breath for a moment, “I miss him.”

Paul nodded his head, “He died a good man,” he heard Wilbur laugh again, sinister, cold.

Wilbur nodded his head, “Yeah, a good man indeed.”
