To this day, one of the most tone-setting events for me is Hoh’s death. And even more tone-setting than Hoh’s death is Serena Rinnen’s conversation with Hoh before she closes his eyes, and the fact that she’s one of the first people (if not THE first person) we see get not what she wants, but what she needs from the tower.

And every time I reread, Hoh and Rinnen are the point in the story that reimmerses me in the tragedy of it all.

It’s a one sided conversation with the person she’s preparing to let go is what I think #might sound like finagling but… yeah #also how the whole part played out? Baam and Endorsi fighting quant; Rachel lying there; the other people in the safe zone…#also before I forget; this is the moment that made the story really click for me. I KNEW that I was in for a great time but not a good one #I wonder where Hoh would be if he had let go of his resentment #and I wonder where Rinnen is now after she found a new lease in life #sigh
