I now need me an extensive documentary or video essay about the history of the Transformers franchise. In the real world I mean, not the lore itself
The beginnings, the high and low periods of the franchise, the struggles, the inspirations and thought processes of how each iteration came to be, the culture surrounding the time period of each series and how that influenced their iterations at the time. And this extends to all corners of the franchise as well, between the toys, comics, cartoons and movies
The g1 Season 1 DVD I got has a featurette about some of the origins of the franchise, called Triple Changer: From Toy to Comic to Screen, and I really liked it, (and Season 2 has a featurette as well) but I need more. I need a complete, detailed history of the entire thing up to this point in time
#I’ve been watching a lot of Poseidon Entertainment these past few days#that’s probably why I’m in this mindset#he covers theme parks which is a whole different thing but I like listening to the history of the parks#and I love his video series on entertainment in the 90s#and I now need this format for Transformers#it probably exists out there somewhere#well up until when it was recorded that is#I just don’t know where it is#a playlist of Chris McFeely’s The Basics on each era/iteration would probably also suffice#but I’m too lazy to go looking for all that#and I’m not even sure if he’s covered every series#but yeah#where’s my Transformers documentary#there’s no way it isn’t big enough to have one#transformers#video essay#documentary

so mark brown, host of the game analysis youtube channel Game Maker's Toolkit, has released his first game, Mind Over Magnet, just about a month ago. in his recent postmortem video of the thing, he says that the common sentiment from reviewers is that it's a solid 8/10. a very polished but very uninspired puzzle platformer, with good design fundamentals but without The Sauce that makes it something special.
and like, even as a genuine fan of game maker's toolkit, who uses its videos on game design as comfort media, it's hard not to be a cynic about it. hard not to say "this is the kind of game that the gmtk approach produces." a game that's good, but not great. a game that entertains for an afternoon, but doesn't change your life. a work of craftsmanship, but not of art.
but i know this isn't fair. most video games are, in fact, like that. not every puzzle platformer can be an INSIDE or Braid. 90% of everything is crap, and mind over magnet is, for all its flaws, a video game that actually released and was pretty alright. that's more than a lot of us can say. and maybe those reviewers aren't seeing the best of the game, i haven't played it yet so i couldn't say if they're really onto something. mark's devlogs are still super inspiring and insightful, and i still like gmtk a lot.
but i think... this is the only way this story could have ended. three years spent developing a game that is simply pretty good. one that probably would have flopped if it wasn't mark fucking brown posting it. not because the game is necessarily bad, but because there's simply nothing special to it that really gives it the pull. that's just how it goes sometimes, you put your mind, body, and soul into developing a game, and it doesn't set the world on fire. most games don't.
when he said at the end "i don't know if i would ever want to do this again, but if mind over magnet is the only game i put into the world, i'm happy with that," that was the realest shit in that entire series. game design full-time isn't for everyone. i don't even really know if it's for me, i definitely couldn't work in The Industry full-time. being a gamedev is a really compelling thing for a lot of people who've loved games their whole life and want to be part of that. but it's not easy, it never is, and it's not for everyone. even the people who obsess over game design. that's not to say you shouldn't try if you really want to, but that the process of making the games you love will probably be a lot more involved than you could ever dream of. if you want hard proof of that, uh, Check Out Developing.

you are insane if you think a child reading bigoted works by a bigoted author is better than a child who has a different interest than you would like. go fuck yourself
I'm in the minority of people who actually thought something was off about the Gringotts Goblins when I was eleven, because I'm Like That, and even I think calling the series "bigoted works" is inaccurate. They're the standard level of problematic for a 90s/early 2000s children's series. Singling them out as bigoted obscures what the cultural landscape was like at the time and it's just dishonest!
I read books by the infamously bigoted Roald Dahl as a kid, and honestly I think his bigotry is a lot more evident in some of his works than Rowling's is in Harry Potter (I understand some of her later books for adults are cuckoo bananas). Reading them was still good for me! Certainly better for me than the amount of time I spent playing games on everythinggirl.com. Even better than the time I spent playing actual computer games!
This is not about what interests I would like this is about one parent trying to foster a love of reading and literacy in a child and the other parent giving him screens. If a kid only likes gaming and not books that is bad, I'm sorry! Video games are a morally neutral form of entertainment but it's very important to have a healthy balance, especially for a kid (although a lot of adults spend way too much time gaming; it's basically like the people who used to watch TV all day only slightly more interactive). And tbqh I would be very, very careful about an eleven-year-old boy having access to gamer subculture. He's way more likely to learn bigotry from gamers on YouTube and twitch than he is from Harry Potter.
Would I actively introduce my hypothetical children to Harry Potter? No. But if they wanted to borrow it from the public library I wouldn't stop them. If I knew someone who wanted to read the series with their kids I would advise the against buying new copies to avoid giving Rowling money while she's still alive and doing evil stuff with it, but that's as far as I would go because, like, who cares.
Reading is good. Encouraging children to read is good. Bonding with your kids over your favorite books is good. This should not be controversial. Kids are not better off as iPad kids than reading books you don't like.

Thought of a celebrity AU where Jon and Damian were on the same popular kids show together that gave rise to a lot of teen and adult idols. Damian preferred being more behind the scenes and got into directing. Damian also coming from a long line of trained entertainment stars and wanting to go the director route like Bruce. Jon became the big heart throb and Damian constantly uses Jon as his muse in his filming. Damian’s films helped him transition from that heartthrob to a series artistic actor with critical acclaim.
oooh that'd be fun! and just because I recently saw the trailer for that tell-all about the 90s/00s nickelodeon days shadiness, imagine that Damian found out that Jon was mistreated as a child actor, that Damian only found out long after the fact. And yeah, he's already an established director and climbing the ranks in the entertainment world, but suddenly Jon wakes up to a million texts and BREAKING NEWS banners all over his phone-
Because Damian was arrested after beating up the executive producer from their child acting days. and not just beat up, like literally almost murdered. And witnesses reported hearing him screaming at this producer, "This is for what you did to him, you bastard!" between every punch and kick and hit. And the producer, the sleazebag that he was, at some point probably shouted back like, "You're finished in this town, Wayne! You're done!" to which Damian replies, "I don't give a fuck, so long as he's safe from fuckers like you."
and Jon sits there seeing all the tweets and messages and news reports and videos and just starts crying, because it was all for him. He knows it. And it's because Damian loves him, is in love with him, and he's in love with Damian too, but now? Now, as Damian's in jail and they're separated, it might be too late for them. After all these years.

Hey, what are you into right now (movies, books, series)? Or even not right now, but in the past, outside of Merlin? I feel you have wicked taste, and I’m desperate for a new hyperfixation. Please, some recs if you have them!
Hey, anon! Sorry; I spaced on answering this.
I don't generally watch a lot of movies or TV shows, because I prefer reading. TV is generally for when I want to shut my brain off and just be entertained, so I wouldn't call a lot of what I do watch good. But if you haven't seen them yet, Our Flag Means Death and Sense8 are both really good shows. Both were pretty popular on tumblr at one point or another, so you may have already seen them, but if not, I really recommend giving them a go. Also, this is dated now, but it still holds up as a sitcom: I've spent most of my recovery rewatching Frasier, which I saw as a kid when it was first airing in the 90s. Ditto Third Rock from the Sun, which still makes me laugh, no matter how many times I've seen it.
This is a video game, but I've been playing an RPG set in medieval Bohemia that's really scratching my nerd itch; it's called Kingdom Come. It's very immersive and has been keeping me company the last couple of weeks while I get to the point in my recovery where I feel well enough to do more than lay in bed staring at my tablet, but am not quite yet a fully functioning human.
As for books, I'm finishing up a historical mystery series, 'Brother Cadfael' by Ellis Peters, set in medieval England during The Anarchy. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and am sad to have only one book left.
I just started rereading 'The Wolf Hall' trilogy by Hilary Mantel, which follows the rise and fall of Thomas Cromwell during Henry VIII's reign. I found the trilogy very gripping and difficult to put down my first time through, and though I've only just started the first book again, it's having the same effect, even though I just read it a couple of years ago. Definitely check out a preview of this first, though; I love Mantel's unique style, but I know a lot of readers find it difficult.
I read 'Shadowplay' by Joseph O'Connor a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. This follows Bram Stoker during his time as a manager at a London theatre, his struggles with his writing (he didn't really find commercial success until after his death), and the experiences that led to 'Dracula.'
For the last couple of years I've been making my way through most of Guy Gavriel Kay's work, which I recommend if you like poetic, historically-inspired fantasy. I started with 'A Brightness Long Ago', but I recommend picking whatever time period that interests you personally (the Sarantine duology, for instance, is set in an analogue of the Byzantine Empire; 'A Brightness Long Ago' evokes Renaissance Italy, and then 'Under Heaven' and its companion 'River of Stars' imperial China).
Ditto with Terry Pratchett and his Discworld, a hilarious satirical fantasy series. I started with 'Guards Guards' and read the City Watch books and then moved on to the books featuring the witches. Special shout-out to his 'Nation', which is not a Discworld book, but is one of the best novels I've read in years.
I've also been immersed in Arthurian literature and heaps of non-fiction about the Plantagenet reign for the last few years. My favourite work of Arthuriana is probably 'Idylls of the King' by Tennyson. It's gorgeous and haunting. 'The Plantagenets' by Dan Jones is a good, accessible introduction to that period of history if you're at all inclined to non-fiction. He's a historian, but it's not a stodgy, academic text.
I hope there's something here for you!

Hi! I love your videos and art! and can I ask a little question - how do you feel about other tmnt movies and TV series? (1987, 90s, 2003, 2007, etc.) what is your opinion on this? (I think you've seen and watched some of this). thank you in advance for the answer. keep up the good work! ^^
I'm so sorry this took longer to answer! I completely forgot it yesterday.😂
I kinda expected this question to arrive SOMEDAY, to be honest, since I mainly talk about 2012, but I don't mind it of course!
1987:
I only ever watched a few episodes and bits of it, so I cannot form a good answer, but I do think the show is actually funny, or at least entertaining. My friend even calls it a haven for incorrect quotes and I agree on that. xD I swear I will continue it one day to have better judgement!
The 90's movies:
Never watched them, honestly. I do want to watch the first one at one point, but I'm still holding out on doing it. xD
2003:
TURTLES COUNT IT OFF! I swear, my friends and I sing the opening of that show more than we've actually watched the show.💀
I started watching the first season and made it a few episodes in. Even watched it in German and it was honestly already great. Fell in love with these idiots immediately, especially Donnie and Raph who became my favorites in an instant. Still cannot believe they let Raph say "shit" in the german dub. xD
2007 movie:
*angelic music resounds*
God, I love that movie SO MUCH. It's just such an enjoyable watch late at night (as is Tmnt in general, actually) and I remember it from back during my childhood. That movie was actually on TV a few times, during my time as a Tmnt fan back during 2013-2016, and I loved to watch it.
Returning to the fandom and finding the movie on Netflix actually brought back all my nostalgia I had for this movie, and thus watched it again one night. And I will not forgive Netflix for just taking it down.
2012:
I mean......Do I need to explain? As if it isn't obvious enough, ahshsjsjs. It was my introduction to Tmnt, to anyone who didn't know!
2014/2016 movies:
I do not care what anyone says: These movies ROCK. Sure, the turtles look quite terrifying, but I never experienced a dull moment watching these movies. I genuinely enjoy watching them so much.
Back in 2014 I wanted to watch the movie in the cinema so badly, but I was only 11 and thus couldn’t watch a Rated 12 movie alone (since my mom dislikes the turtles HEAVILY xD), so I could only watch it once it was on TV for the first time (I wasn't allowed the DVD for whatever reason), which did take about two years, shshsjsj.
BUT two years later, when "Out of the Shadows" came out, I was 13 and READY. It was my first Tmnt movie on the big screen and I had such a pleasant time watching it.
These two movies hold a special place in my heart, because they were part of my childhood and my introduction to other Tmnt-versions. Donnie and Raph are my favorites here, they are just so- *screams*
2018/Rise show:
I guess this also counts? xD
I do like the show. It's a different approach on the turtles and their world as a whole, and I enjoy it a lot whenever I watch it. Leo and Mikey are my go-to turtles here for a change and especially Leo has made his way into my heart, shshsj.
Rise movie:
Not gonna lie, this movie was actually the first tmnt-media I had consumed in literal years. I randomly found it on Netflix one day, about a week after its release. Looking at it I went:"Oh my god, the ninja turtles? I haven't seen these guys in ages, how are they holding up?"
I was SO confused by Raph and Leo having some sort of role (and kinda personality) change and wondered, if I remembered Raph being the "fight-first-ask-questions-later" impulsive dude and Leo as the responsible leader correctly, because it was not exactly that way in the movie. Turns out, I was, as I realized upon rewatching 2012 in September.
All in all I did enjoy the movie and its more darker theme! It reminded me of the 2012 show and honestly, it was a ride 'til the end. xD
2023/ Mutant Mayhem (no spoilers, don't worry):
*screams*
Not gonna lie, this version is definitely my second favorite one now. I already enjoyed these guys from the trailers alone, but after watching the entire movie my heart did loopings with adoring feelings.
These guys are easily one of my personal fave turtles. Silly, funny, cringe, teens, everything I need. They kinda gave me 12!turtles vibes again at some certain points in the movie, and even if it's pretty unrelated, they also remind me of my "AU kids". I love the turtles acting the way actual teens would. Seeing them do things that, upon looking back at it in the future, makes one cringe, is exactly how I feel looking back at my teenage-years.
I love these dorks so much and I hope the spin-off show and future sequel are gonna be just as good. :>
I hope I didn't forget anything. But if I did, rest assured I never watched it, qhsgshsjsj.💀

ask game! Picking some to ask was actually kinda hard cause they’re all legit good questions BUT (and if you don’t wanna answer all these that’s totally fine):
7 - age/ height/ weight for Tim
9 - scene that first made you love them for Spiro
13 - dumbest thing they’ve ever done for Valentine
25 - 3 things they’d take with them if dropped in the middle of nowhere for Butler
Oooo yesss okay-
7)
So I’m absolute shit at guessing actual weights/heights, etc. (+ I don’t really wanna calculate what the exact loss of one leg would be for total body weight), so I’m just gonna go with approximate descriptions if that’s alright!
I imagine Tim to, at the point of his recovery in TEC, be around 50 years old! I’m sure there’s an actual age to be found in the series somewhere, but that’s what I’ve got. Build-wise, it really depends on which point in the series one is looking at, but given that most of my content is in a nebulous ‘just past TLG’ period, that’s what I’ll go with.
Tim in my mind is of slightly-above-average height, but he appears tall due to being long in the waist + his habit of looming over people (most of the time unintentionally). Over time, however, his near-perfect posture has loosened a bit, which means people are more often able to look him in the eye.
In terms of weight, Tim is pretty slim and built like a runner. He was a bit ‘stronger’ looking in his youth, but after his time in captivity, he thinned a lot and has struggled with building muscle back on.
9)
I’d have to say the moment when he outsmarts Artemis at the vault. Not only was it a total surprise to me as a kid, but it hammered home that, unlike many AF villains to start, Spiro wasn’t going to allow himself to be outsmarted by Artemis simply by underestimating him. He made a bet with Arno about it- Spiro knew that Artemis would most likely make it to the vault, even if he didn’t know how, and that’s more credit than most of Artemis’s foes give him.
Also- this line from his introduction is just 10/10 description-wise. I think of it every time my bracelets clatter.
(Is is cheating to also list a part of a fic? Does that count as cheating? Ngl while I liked Spiro a lot initially, his journey to being one of my favorites was 100% the fault of @orangerosebush ‘s fic Kunegetikos- two scenes in particular: His flashback to being told mythology as a child/packing after his grandmother’s funeral, and his conversation with Artemis towards the end in which he admits that he wants to believe magic exists, not for profit, but because it might offer him a sense of purpose. It was a really nice look what his history might be and ultimately inspired me to start fleshing him out a bit as well!)
13)
Ohh, there’s a lot of stupid things Valentine does, but in terms of consequences? He rarely faces them. But he has absolutely, 100% shown up to at least one performance or interview completely wasted, lost his cool, made a spectacle of himself and promptly fallen off the stage, there is a video of it somewhere. Would he and his brand smooth things over quickly? Yes. Would he be reminded of if any time he happens to search himself on YouTube? Absolutely.
25)
The obvious answer is survival stuff cause c’mon, it’s Butler, but given that he would also not really need any of that stuff since he can clearly survive with just his own two hands and the clothes on his back, I would say-
- His gun. He cleans it when he’s stressed I’m 90% sure that thing is basically a fidget for him at this point.
- One trashy romance novel. Might as well have some form of entertainment if you’re roughing it out in the wild.
- Some form of communication with Artemis. Butler… he cannot seem to function well when he’s not sure that Artemis is okay or alive. At least give him a handheld radio.

HI!
You absolutely have no need to answer this but i just LOVE how you talk about Leon and Ashley, reading all your meta analysis and just reading your replies to other people in general.
I've been in your blog reading everything for 2 days (still not done btw) and i've been having so much fun thanks to you, learning new things about RE since I am kind of new to the fandom. (I've watched RE Village through markiplier but back then I had NO IDEA who Leon was and only saw him after the RE4make dropped, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT-) ((anyways))
I just wanted to thank you for all the entertainment, please keep doing what you do. 🥺 I'll be around.
😭 you guys are so freakin nice to me, man. idk what I did to deserve this.
But I 100% believe that you had no idea who Leon was before RE4make dropped. Resident Evil went through a real depression in the 2010s and, despite continuing to sell in big numbers, did not retain the visibility it'd had in the 90s and 00s and fell away from the conversation very quickly in the video game space.
If you hadn't already been playing RE before the 2010s, or if you didn't have any friends who had been playing RE before/during the 2010s, you had no idea what the fuck Resident Evil was. Maybe you were vaguely aware of the shitty live action movies, but that was it.
And if you're too young to have been playing video games during the time of RE4's release, you had no idea who the fuck Leon Kennedy was.
Like. There was no avoiding him in the aughts. It'd be like not knowing who Sephiroth was. Because RE4 OG was that much of a big deal.
But once that depression hit? It hit, man. And a whole new generation of video game players grew into maturity without even having Resident Evil on their radars at all -- much less who any of the characters were, even Leon.
It was RE7 that started to pull RE out of that depression, but it wasn't until RE8 that RE finally started to feel mainstream again.
Like. RE2make was kind of a big deal, sure -- but only among the Old Guard. It didn't do much to bring new players into the series. RE's big shot in the arm really, really was RE8.
And now here comes RE4make to shove Leon in the faces of this new generation so that Capcom can be like "YOU WILL KNOW WHO THIS MAN IS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT" all over again LMAO
And, look. Here you are, as living proof of it.
#resident evil 4#jsyk i continuously compare FF7 to RE4 not because FF7 is my other big fandom#but because FF7 is the best comparison *for* RE4#both of those games changed video games forever#they weren't just successful releases#they were cultural phenomenons#your favorite video game today probably would not have ever existed if not for the influence of FF7 and/or RE4#and now that they've both gotten their remakes at basically the same time too#it really REALLY bears looking at how both games have progressed throughout the years#not just from a cultural standpoint#but from a game development one too

Here's a sneak peak at a future character what will make his debut in chapter 6. Stay tuned for what's about to be uncovered.
So I love pulp comics, kinda got into it when I got done with Goosebumps as a kid. And kinda went into a Golden Age comic fascination rabbit hole, as Denver has a lot of great comic book shops, and when you only have $2 to spend on entertainment, It has become a bit of a (now hiatus) hobbie. Tales from the Crypt is def one of my faves. I loved the show as a kid, I enjoyed the comics as a college student, and I'm now very nostalgic for it.

THREE BETWEEN THE SHEETS
ECSTASY (1984) - BLACK VENUS (1983) - MELODY OF PASSION (1985)
Indulge your ‘80s fantasies with two softcore classics produced by Harry Alan Towers (99 Women, Franco’s Count Dracula): In Black Venus, former Miss Bahamas Josephine Jacqueline Jones (Love Circles) leads a sumptuous orgy of Victorian lust co-starring Florence Guérin (Faceless), Karin Schubert (Black Emanuelle), Helga Liné (Black Candles) and Profumo Affair temptress Mandy Rice-Davies. Drive-in goddess Tiffany Bolling (The Candy Snatchers) stars in Ecstasy – also known as Love Scenes – as a Hollywood actress caught between reel passion and her own erotic hungers that include Britt Ekland, Julie Newmar, Monique Gabrielle and Jack Carter. As a Bonus, Austrian centerfold Sonja Martin (Red Heat, Emmanuelle IV) stars in Melody of Passion from director Hubert Frank (Vanessa), with all three features scanned in 2K from their original negatives.
ECSTASY (1984)
Label: Severin Films
Region Code: Region-Free
Rating: Unrated
Duration: 90 Minutes
Audio: English DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono with Optional English Subtitles
Video: 1080p HD Widescreen (1.85:1)
Director: Bud Towsend
Cast: Franc Luz, Tiffany Bolling, Julie Newmar, Jack Carter, Britt Ekland, Daniel Pilon
In the Playboy Channel produced Ecstasy (1984) (aka Love Scenes) up and coming director Peter Binnes (Franc Luz, Ghost Town) has just won a critics choice award, and looking to cash-on this windfall her tries to get a new erotic thriller, penned by Belinda (Julie Newmar, Catwoman from the 60's Batman TV series!), into production, but his cigar-chompin' producer Sidney (Jack Carter, Alligator) says that no studio wants to finance an erotic film without some star power. Luckily Peter's wife Val (Tiffany Bolling, Kingdom of the Spiders) is a renowned actress, but she's never done nudity in film before. After some prompting from her hubby, as well as some reinforcement from a photographer friend Annie (Britt Ekland, The Wicker Man) she agrees to do the film, but with reservations.
Problems soon arise when the leading man in the erotic thriller, Rick (Daniel Pilon, Scanners III - The Takeover), who well-known for being a hand-on lothario ends up unexpectedly igniting Val's libido, and she embarssingly climaxes while film is rolling during their first filmed hook-up. This very real moment of passion exacerbates Val's mundane faked-orgasm sex life with her director-husband. Conflicted by her attraction to her co-star Val worries that her married life is on the rocks, but the self-obsessed Peter is too consumed with making his film to worry too much about his wife's concerns. This is a fun lightweight bit of softcore erotica that is heavy on the daytime soap opera drama vibes, but does feature some titillating softcore nudity, and it's capably directed by Bus Townsend (Nightmare In Wax). The film is less tawdry that I would have liked, and is lousy with sax-heavy score, but plenty entertaining, and getting an eyefull of drive-in goddess Tiffany Bolling (Candy Snatchers, Bonnie's Kids) nude is always a pleasure, and both Ekland and Newmar seem to be having a blast in their non-nude roles,

BLACK VENUS (1983)
Label: Severin Films
Region Code: Region-Free
Rating: Unrated
Duration: 95 Minutes
Audio: English, French, German DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono with Optional English Subtitles
Video: 1080p HD Widescreen (1.66:1)
Director: Claude Mulot
Cast: José Antonio Ceinos, Josephine Jacqueline Jones, Florence Guérin, Emiliano Redondo
Another Playboy Channel produced slice of erotica, Black Venus (1984) directed by Claude Mulot (The Blood Rose), is a Victorian era set erotic film that begins with penniless sculptor Armand (José Antonio Ceinos, Leonor) meeting the gorgeouse Venus (Josephine Jacqueline Jones, Christina). Entranced by her beauty she becomes his muse and lover, and he sets about sculpting a statue of her likeness. With no source of income from his artwork Venus begins working as a model at a fashion house, but the attention she draws and the money she makes proves to be a blow to his ego, he drowns his sorrows in drinks, and Venus ends up leaving him, embarking on sexual adventures with a horny wealthy couple, but growing tired of being exploited by others, she teams-up with Louise (Florence Guérin, Faceless) to work at a brothel, until Armand, no longer tortured, returns to reclaim his muse.
Black Venus has some solid period set production value, conjuring the Victorian era convincingly for a low-budget film, it's attractively lensed, and is well-acted, not to mention chock full of nudity and actual erotic scenes that are a turn on. This one also has a bookend scenes of an older gent (Emiliano Redondo, The People Who Own The Dark), who is turned on by being a voyeur, touring a brothel down a secret hallway that allows him to peep through two-way mirrors to witness the sexy cosplay shenanigans happening inside themed rooms where people indulge in fantasies involving pirates, slaves, and kings.

MELODY OF PASSION (1985)
Label: Severin Films
Region Code: Region-Free
Rating: Unrated
Duration: 91 Minutes
Audio: English or German DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono with Optional English Subtitles
Video: 1080p HD Widescreen (1.66:1)
Director: Hubert Frank
Cast: Sonja Martin, Montse Bayo, Marina Oroza, Klaus Münster, Martin Garrido
The final titillating softcore delight is Hubert Frank's Melody of Passion (aka La chica que cayó del Cielo) German gal Betty (Sonja Martin, Emmanuelle IV) is notified that she has inherited a family castle in Spain. Arriving there she finds the castle and learns from the lawyer handling the estate, Don Cervantes, that it might be haunted and more trouble than it's worth, and insists that she should sell it to him sight unseen. Now this guy has reasons for wanting the castle, in that he is partnered with a madame and they are running a profitable high-class brothel within it's stone walls!
This is certainly the most offbeat of the bunch this Austrian-Spanish co-production throws a little bit of everything into the mix. We get the expected softcore delights, plentiful nudity, some nice atmosphere, plus a robbery, high-speed car chase, Gothic horror elements and quite a bit more. The tone is uneven to say the least but the unexpected camp-factor and exploitation entertainment quotients are through the roof, making this wild slice of Euro-rotica the best of the bunch in my estimation.
Audio/Video: All three films make their North American Blu-ray debuts from Severin Films on region-Free Blu-ray presented in 1080p HD widescreen. Both Black Venus and Melody of Passion are framed in 1.66:1 while Ecstasy gets 1.85:1. These are advertised as being scanned in 2K from the original negatives, and they look pretty terrific. Film grain is unmolested and organic, colors and skin tones look natural throughout. Audi comes by way of uncompressed DTS-HD MA Mono with optional English subtitles. Ecstasy gets uncompressed English while Melody of Passions has both German and English audio options, with Black Venus sporting English, German, and French audio options. All the tracks are clean and free of issues, a bit limited in range, but clean and well-balanced. Extras are anemic, we only get trailers for Black Venus and Ecstasy, so that is a disappointing, I would have loved commentary tracks on these, but the HD upgrades are appreciated and blow away the previous DVD editions. The three disc release arrives in a black keepcase with a single sides sleeve of artwork, inside a flipper tray houses the three films on separate discs with separate artworks.
If you're looking to indulge in some vintage ‘80s softcore fantasies Severin has you covered with this titillating triple-threat collection. The extras are slim but the A/V is wonderful, and the erotic delights are plentiful. The three films are handsomely produced for what they are and look fantastic in HD. The films range from horny melodrama, to sleazy Victorian debauchery, and bonkers 80's raunchiness - it's a wonderful assortment of vintage erotica that all lovers of softcore should have on their shelf.

Journal Entry 10/27/2024
Late Start – Typical Lazy Sunday: I woke up late around 10:30 a.m., thanks to the weekend. The sound of my parents snoring was what actually pulled me out of sleep. I got up, made myself some coffee, and grabbed a quick breakfast.
The day felt like a procrastination marathon—I didn’t really feel like doing anything productive. I ended up binging videos on YouTube just to keep myself entertained. One of the videos was about the new Call of Duty campaign, and since I’ve always been a fan of the Black Ops series, it caught my attention. The story takes place in the late '90s, with one mission featuring a raid on Saddam Hussein’s mansion, which was pretty wild to see in a video game. The campaign was short, only about six hours, but it was enough to take my mind off things for a bit.
Afternoon Nap & Family Chaos: After finishing the campaign, I decided to take a nap. I didn’t wake up until 2 p.m., and as soon as I did, I heard everyone being loud around the house. I wandered into the living room, where I saw my parents still working on the floors—the dog had really made a mess of them. I checked in briefly, but then went right back to procrastinating.
I tried to keep myself entertained by checking my work emails, just to prepare for tomorrow. I also caught up with Nate, my best friend from Alaska. We talked about life, struggles, and how we’ve managed to push through everything. Nate’s been through a lot—his mom passed away this year, and I’ve had my own battles, especially with Jodie’s death and my ongoing struggle with suicidal thoughts.
During our conversation, I told him, “2024 is not our fucking year, Nate.” He agreed: “Indeed.” It felt good to talk about it with someone who really understands. I’ve never told my parents about Jodie’s death—honestly, it’s none of their business. Jodie was the love of my life, and her suicide hit me hard. That’s not something I want to share with anyone outside of those who truly get it.
Family Dinner & Politics in the Philippines: Later, my dad made Sinigang, his own unique version. It felt good to have the whole family together, sitting at the table, sharing a meal. Dad turned on the news to catch a subcommittee hearing back in the Philippines about their war on drugs and the extrajudicial killings that have been going on. The discussion was about police misconduct and the future of the government there.
Honestly, I didn’t care much—I don’t live there, so it feels distant. But my parents seemed worried about the future of the Philippines. I tried to lighten the mood by saying, “Trust me, the presidential election here is just around the corner.”
Ending the Day – Reflections and Looking Forward: As the day wound down, I went to bed to decompress. It was a boring day, but the conversation with Nate reminded me that I’m not alone, even when things feel heavy. I did feel a bit of depression creeping in, but talking to Nate gave me some comfort.
Tomorrow is Monday, and I’m actually excited to get back to work and see my coworkers. Plus, it’s Game 3 of the World Series—I can’t wait for that, especially after the Dodgers took the first two games.
Here’s hoping for a better week ahead.

Incoming Text for Nicole Kidman (@nicolekidman):
Dear Nicole,
I came across the gossip on TMZ where it was reported that you said to Salma Hayek, "Don't touch me." The media has taken this out of context, using it to fuel false rumors about your friendship with Salma.
From my perspective, I don’t believe there’s any real issue between you and Salma. However, the tabloids are exploiting this story as clickbait, and unfortunately, many of your fans are falling for it. They're gossiping about the situation, which only adds to the unnecessary drama.
It’s clear that this is just another case of the media distorting things for attention.
Also, I've been a fan of your movies since the '90s, and the most recent one I watched was The Beguiled (2017). It was such an entertaining film—especially the scene at the end when they kill him with the poisoned mushrooms. I really enjoyed it.
Also, in 2023, I watched the first season of Lioness with Zoe Saldaña. It was dope! I’m a big fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work.
My dear Nicole, can you please forward a message to Taylor Sheridan for me? Here is the message:
“Hey, Taylor! It’s me, Angelo! I’m one of your biggest fans! I know you have amazing skills as a screenwriter, and I look forward to all your new movie releases, but your cowboy storylines have got to stop, man! That’s just my opinion as a fan; I want to see some other stuff beyond your cowboy stories. I know you have a lot of skills. I read your Wikipedia page and know you painted houses to get by and pay the bills. You are a self-taught screenwriter, and I admire your work, but you’re not giving the fans what they expect. We want something fresh from you.
I swear, I’ve watched all your new movies, and I’m a huge fan of your storytelling, but these days you keep making these cowboy TV series. I’m impatient to see what else you’ve got! You know there’s a lot of garbage movies on these streaming sites, and I know you are one of the few dope storytellers in Hollywood.
But these TV series are taking all your time, and I know you’re burned out. I get that you need the money, and it pays well, but they are stealing so much valuable time from you that could be spent on the big screen. This pisses me off as a fan of your movies! I’m always wondering when they will give you back your freedom. I swear, they’ve stolen one of the best screenwriters and directors in Hollywood from us by forcing him to make only TV series to pay off his bills and make money.
As one of your biggest fans, I want to help you find funding, and I will do my best to contact Elon Musk and vouch for you to convince him to fund your future movie projects.”
Here is list of the TV series:
Yellowstone (2019–present)
Co-creator with John Linson
The Last Cowboy (2019–present)
Executive producer
Mayor of Kingstown (2021–present)
Co-creator with Hugh Dillon
1883 (2021–2022)
Prequel to Yellowstone
Tulsa King (2022–present)
Executive producer
1923 (2022–present)
Prequel to Yellowstone, sequel to 1883
Special Ops: Lioness (2023–present)
Lawmen: Bass Reeves (2023)
Executive producer
Landman (2024)
The End of the Message for Taylor Sheridan.
Thank you, Nicole. Love you, big hugs for you.
Your virtual friend, Angelo.

Mumbai, India—October 15, 2024—Prime Video, India’s most-loved entertainment destination, today dropped the captivating action-packed trailer for the eagerly awaited Original series, Citadel: Honey Bunny. The Indian series born from the world of Citadel is directed by Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK) and written by Sita R. Menon, along with Raj & DK. The series is produced by D2R Films, Amazon MGM Studios, and executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Scott Nemes from AGBO, alongside David Weil (Hunters), executive produce Citadel: Honey Bunny and all series within the world of Citadel. Midnight Radio is also an executive producer. The series features the immensely talented Varun Dhawan and Samantha in the lead and the ever-so-versatile Kay Kay Menon, along with an exciting ensemble cast that includes Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar. Citadel: Honey Bunny is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on November 7.
The trailer is a preview of the exhilarating and riveting spy thriller set against the vibrant tapestry of the 90’s, which features explosive action, high-octane stunts, and edge-of-your-seat excitement, all perfectly complemented by exceptional performances and a grand visual scale. When stuntman Bunny (Varun Dhawan) recruits struggling actress Honey (Samantha) for a side gig, they are hurled into a high-stakes world of action, espionage, and betrayal. Years later, as their dangerous past catches up, the estranged Honey and Bunny must reunite and fight to protect their young daughter Nadia.
“Following the tremendous response to the teaser, the excitement and anticipation around the show has been rising every day, with fans of Varun, Samantha and Raj & DK eagerly waiting for November 7. We felt that now is the right time to provide them with a window into the series with an action-infused trailer of the show that captures the incredible world of Citadel: Honey Bunny. Raj & DK have added their signature quirk and charm to this high-octane spy thriller that promises to be a whole new thrilling ride for our audiences,” said Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals, Prime Video, India.
"Citadel: Honey Bunny is a significant project for us as it has given us the opportunity to be part of a larger, unprecedented world of spies and espionage that has never been done or even attempted before. We have created all our projects so far, but Citadel: Honey Bunny is our first collaboration. And that it is with the creative forces like the Russo Brothers, as well as a host of talented filmmakers and creators around the world, has made this an amazingly valuable creative experience,” said Raj & DK.
"Bunny is unlike any role I’ve played before. As a spy, he not only leads a double life, but every aspect of his personality has two distinct sides, which was very exciting for me as an actor. Intricately woven into the storyline, his portrayal required me to draw on a blend of experiences and characters I’ve embodied over the years, as well as mentally and physically prepare for the grueling stunts and amped-up action scenes, making it one of my most challenging performances yet. And I am deeply grateful to Prime Video, Raj & DK, and AGBO for the opportunity to bring Bunny to life,” said Varun Dhawan.
Samantha said, "The opportunity to be part of an action-packed entertainer with a gripping storyline, rich character depth, and intense hand-to-hand combats and stunts that rival international standards, along with the prospect to play an integral role in this collection of connected spy stories, is what drew me to this project. The challenges and efforts required to bring Honey to life have left a profound impact on me, both professionally and personally, making it one of the most significant roles of my career. I’m confident that the audience will thoroughly enjoy this series, not just in India but across the many countries and territories where it will stream on Prime Video."

QNews: Meet the actor set for stardom in 2024: Matthew Backer
By Dale Roberts / 12 January 2024
Brisbane’s own Matthew Backer chats to QNews about his career as an out gay actor, being a Play School presenter and his big year ahead.
Matthew has just flown in to visit family for the holidays and joins our video interview from his childhood bedroom.
He explains that his parents have turned it into a spare room, although they still have some posters of him on the wall.
It’s clear his parents are proud of his achievements and they have every reason to be.
Matthew’s rise as an actor and TV presenter has grown each year over the last decade and it feels he is on the precipice of something even bigger.
Matt grew up in Brisbane because of his dad’s rugby league career. His father, Bradley Backer, played for Easts and was in the first-ever State of Origin series for Queensland.
Other pursuits were Matt’s passions though.
“I went to an all-boys Catholic school in the 90s, enough said on that, but that’s where I found acting doing school musicals and plays,” he tells me.
Journalism
Despite his love of acting, his first career went down a different path.
He studied journalism at the University of Queensland and went on to become a cadet reporter at the Fraser Coast Chronicle in Maryborough.
Maryborough was his family’s home town and despite not living there he knew the place inside out as a regular visitor.
Although he loved the job and living with his grandparents, he started to feel it wasn’t the right path for him.
“I just constantly had that little voice going like ‘you should be acting’. So at the end of that cadetship, I was like It’s now or never. I just really wanted to audition for NIDA, so I came back to Brisbane for a year and did every amateur play you could think of and short films and promo work and then I auditioned.”
Matthew got into the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) on first go and then moved to Sydney for his new life as an actor.
Acting career
Matthew’s credits since then are extensive.
After landing his first professional gig as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys he went on to a substantial theatre career.
In 2016 he won a Matilda Award for Best Male Actor in Queensland Theatre’s production of Switzerland and a 2016 Broadway World Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Sydney Theatre Company’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
He hasn’t shied away from screen roles with credits in Wellmania, Five Bedrooms, A Place to Call Home and Home and Away to name just a few.
The versatility of roles and medium has helped shape the longevity of his career.
“You just gotta take what you can get, the industry is not big enough,” he says.
“Thankfully, I can act and I can sing and I can move well. So I tick a few boxes, which you have to be able to do in Australia. Otherwise, there’s just not enough arenas for you to play in. But thankfully, I’ve got many fingers in many pies.”
Queer representation
Being boxed in as a “gay actor” has been a frustrating experience for Matt at times, particularly early in his career when the roles he was typecast for were consistently going to his straight colleagues.
“Six, seven years ago, it was pretty much all straight actors playing gay roles and the gay roles were not even that developed. I think some of the soaps had two gay stalkers on there,” he says.
“I don’t subscribe to the belief that only gay actors should play gay characters. That’s not it at all, but when the seesaw is like this [he puts out his hands to symbolise unbalanced scales] we have to level it out a bit.”
However, since he first began acting he has seen a demonstrable difference in the industry.
“I’ve noticed much more developed interesting queer characters that are really exciting. My mate Tim Draxl just got nominated for two AACTA awards for playing two gay roles and he’s openly gay. Like, that was not happening when I graduated, there was no gay actor openly succeeding that you could go ‘cool, I can do it’, but it is changing,” he says.
Play School
For all his thespian prowess, there’s one role he is probably best known for: Play School.
Matt became a presenter on the iconic program back in 2017.
“It’s just so fun. It’s so silly. I mean, it’s in the name. We just get to go in and play and be big kids, and I’m such a big kid,” he laughs.
He has also been part of the program as so many children in his life grow up with it.
“When I started, I had two nephews and they were like, in the right age bracket. So they’ve grown up with Uncle Matt on TV. Now I’ve got two more nephews and a little niece and so they’re all watching and my friends are having kids and I think I got it at the perfect time. It’s a reminder of how special it is, it’s like the funnest job I’ve ever had.”
With his exposure across so many different mediums, I ask him who recognises him the most. He says kids often spot him but he also gets approached out on the scene.
“I was at Mardi Gras, and you know, everyone’s dressed up and having a good old time and a lovely gay guy skipped up to me and pointed in my face and was like you’re on Play School and skipped off into the night!”
A big year ahead
2024 looks to be a big year for Matthew.
On January 18, the Stan series Prosper comes out where he stars alongside Richard Roxburgh and Rebecca Gibney which he describes as “his biggest TV role so far.”
The show has been described as Succession meets Hillsong drama series.
Also coming out during the year will be Die Bully Die.
The film is one that Matthew and his friend Drew Weston co-wrote and will star in together.
It’s a comedy horror that takes some inspiration from Matt’s experiences at that 90s Catholic school in Brisbane as well as an incident he had later in life at Tropical Fruits.
“I looked across the dance floor and saw one of my worst bullies and they’re shirtless and gay. It was fine, he came up and gave me a big hug, but I felt really angry and I didn’t show it. I remember thinking, gosh, there’s so much drama and conflict in what I felt because I was happy for him, but also really angry at him.”
“So we developed this idea, based around a character who maybe hasn’t let that go and is a little warped. Horror is my favourite genre, so we just made it a horror comedy. Hopefully, people love it, it’s it’s bloody entertaining.”
The film’s budget was crowdfunded and the pair are hoping to have it played in a number of festivals this year.
Matthew’s ability to be a chameleon throughout his career stands him in good stead.
He’s gone from journalist to theatre and screen actor, Play School presenter, and now film writer. All while fully embracing his queer identity.
There’s no doubt there is more to come in his career and the boy from Brisbane will continue to do his parents and his community proud.
You can follow Matthew Backer on Instagram. Photos by Johnny Diaz Nicolaidis.
