I mean - you know, fun in a very sad way. Thankfully I never took any of it seriously - so most of the words I've filtered are anti-tony stark sentiments - I would say about 20/25 sentences?

This is a true thing that really annoys me a lot - making the men into ken dolls - for example, they finally paired sam up with an AWESOME BADASS deaf actress and there was like no buzz? around them?! I've noticed that the subtle not so subtle misogyny is fandom across and fandom wide lol. Men with even good opposite sex pairs are usually made into ken dolls with that other dude in the show. Not that I say we shouldn't write MLM stories, but I think we should address it fandom wide.

i am constantly awestruck by the fact that so many of the most iconic tony stark lines are improvised, including the insanely influential "i am iron man", the heartbreaking "no trust, liar", the light-hearted and tension-cutting shawarma mention which led to the scene... and there's so many other instances where unscripted moments were left in (him telling pete to move his leg is probably one of my favourites, as well as saying "that's my man" to steve, which, ouch). robert is a gem and a comedic (and dramatic) genius, and i am so glad the directors worked with him and allowed him to be part of the creative process freely — not only he's the king of quick and witty ad-libs, but also a visionary for his character's arc, and so in-tune with tony's personality. i don't want to discredit the wonderful and extensive team of creatives who made tony stark be the layered personage he is (in comics, films, and otherwise), but the relationship between rob's brilliance and tony's substantiality in the mcu was, in my opinion, a wonderful pillar that allowed the cinematic universe to authentically develop into what we all grew to love. actors being protective of their characters (and critical of them when needed) and listened to by writers is essential, and i do feel like a part of that soulful element is missing nowadays. yes, this is biased coming from an avid lover of tony and steve, but i truly believe that both robert and chris showed by example that actors being their characters' biggest guardians will always be beneficial to the story and evident to the fans. ❤️

I love this gif. Think about it. The MCU has a LARGE audience base and Tony Stark is the face of the MCU and is one of the richest men alive. The Good Omens fandom LOVES David Tennant. He is our favorite rebellious demon.

He played the MCU's most terrifying villain (there is not one single MCU villain that has ever terrified me as much as Kilgrave because that fucker uses his powers of mind control to force Jessica Jones into being in a relationship with him...among other things). As a character though, he was fucking fascinating despite the fact we have met so many men who act just like him, and we hate all of them.

Side note: When I typed "Doogie Howzer" into the gif search, this is the most popular image that came up. I consistently get Howser and Howzer confused.

Now I've got the attention of the Star Wars fandom! Howzer rocks.

You know who else appeared on a Star Wars show (again) this year?

This entire episode was crafted in a way that it formed as many connections as it could with other fandoms.

And not just that. It made sure to include as much representation as possible. Was it perfect? No, but the point is that Doctor Who is telling the world that it is moving on. It is ready to grow and it is ready to be a mainstream voice for everyone whose existence is being threatened by unjust laws.

The new Doctor defied expectations. This Doctor is a breath of fresh air, and a reminder that we will all be okay, but change is inevitable and this sci-fi show about an alien who is either 2,000 or 4,000,000,005 years old. I can't keep up anymore. It doesn't matter because he's a Doctor free from the confines of societal expectations.

Nerd culture is vast, and I know I've left out fandoms because I don't really have all day nor do I know all the fandoms, so I'm just giving you a taste of what I do love.

This episode is meant to be for everyone who needs a place to call home.

And the old Doctor finally gets to retire to make way for the new Doctor.

And as a reward for longtime fans, the retired Doctor has found a place to call home on Earth with his best friend. David Tennant will always be Doctor Who because the old Doctor was allowed to live.

Folks that think that the RDJ casting is indicative of lack of confidence in the upcoming slate have either memory holed or missed the Jonathan Majors of it all.

Because this is the end of a fuck up so bad, they had to change the entire MCU to correct it.

See, at SDCC 2022, Feige announced that Loki Season Two would premiere in Summer 2023, along with the Kang Avengers movies announcement. There was even the Kang run of comics that died on the vine.

This was also 6 or so months before Quantum Mania, which featured a Kang as a villain and began building out the Kang villain issue for the entire MCU.

Now that film didn't go so well, but in the end, you see an arena of Kangs waiting to take over.

Then Majors got arrested in March 2023 for domestic abuse against his then girlfriend, who happened to be another Disney employee.

Following that, Loki somewhat oddly got pushed back to Fall 2023. Which could've been normal reshoot/filming issues except this is Marvel in their assembly line era and also, they got real quiet about Kang Dynasty.

Now, Loki S2 fixed the Kang issue by putting Loki on the throne as the controller of ALL timelines. But it couldn't fix the larger issue that was the fact that all this multiverse build out was for Kang since I don't know if the endgame was always going to be Secret Wars.

So they need to scramble fast and that scramble leads them to Doomsday, which just happens to tie into the announcement of One Nation Under Doom, which drops in 2025 and features a very red cover for a notably green character. Also, there's the What If... where Tony Stark was Doctor Doom, which very much jives with this whole 'multiverse' thing.

And you know what will get asses in seats after the mess of pandemics and strikes and just really shit movies with no real cohesion to them? The very reason the MCU exists.

So they get back RDJ. And they get back the Russos. And love them or hate them, no one is focusing on Kang and how one man blew up the entire back end of a Marvel era by being an abusive dickhead.

And while I’m on the subject of Spider-Man 4, I really hope that spidey 4 comes out before Avengers Doomsday, if Spider-Man is going to be in that movie. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a determined spideychelle shipper who wants MJ and Ned back, to clarify I’m not one of those people who thinks that Spider-Man 4 should be a reboot with only Tom Holland staying on and completely new storylines, I’m the exact opposite. Buttt I do think Peter being cut off from the other superheroes of the MCU is a great opportunity to see MCU Peter, for at least one movie, be much more of an independent solo street level spidey. Especially as the time jump from NWH to where the MCU timeline is now means he’ll already be a bit older and wiser than the last time we saw him. I just think that cutting him off like that and then immediately throwing him back in with the avengers in doomsday would be a huge mistake and missed opportunity. At the same time it would be totally weird to leave him out of Doomsday altogether especially with RDJ coming back, I doubt he’ll be left out. And as a Spider-Man fan I want to see him in doomsday and I want the angst potential of Dr Doom looking like Tony. But can we just let MCU Peter do his own thing first? Can we time the releases to do that please Disney?

The reason why mcu is not the same as comics is not usually because they are trying to be creative

One of the reasons is money (shocking I know) for example civil war In movies was just a fight between 12 people while in the comics there were more characters involved which made the fights much more crazy. In movies they took both hulk and thor out of the way. They didn't even wanted to cast rdj because he was an "expensive actor"

marvel comics were a thing since 40s Mcu has only been around since 2008. I'm gonna go with civil war as example again. The surprising part of that story in comics involved Peter. He always been so careful with his secret identity but when he takes Tony's side he reveals it in front of cameras and the consequences was that aunt may almost dies. In mcu civil war we've JUST met Peter so instead they held that storyline and used it when it was more convenient for them (in nwh). another example is Tony's origin story changing from Vietnam war

Third one is the lack of some characters in mcu. wandavision for example was based of house of M comics But the mutants are a big part of that story so they had to change a lot of things in that show to make it work in mcu

Another thing is that mcu doesn't have or had the right to some of the characters so like when they couldn't make a planet hulk movie they took that storyline and put it in thor ragnorak. two birds one stone

I'm gonna give mcu some credits tho because some of these changes were so smart and some times made the movie much more better than it comics version like what they did with thanos motives in infinity war

but still anthony mackie is really not wrong. In fact when he says "marvel is such a space of controlled entertainment" he is so fucking correct

They don't give actors and directors that much freedom. they seem to just make this movie for this next big movie.

Marvel being all connected was one of the reasons I liked it so much but know it seems to become a problem

I feel ya. It's only normal that they need to alter certain stories and characters, but this insane scrutiny is so over the top. Hell, I still remember The Marvels' director saying her movie turned out to be more Feige's than hers.

I'd argue in the past, that "connected universe" only enriched the stories. But that's because they left that "connection" to the post-credits or maybe a scene or two, it was never part of the story. They don't do that anymore. Now that connection IS the movie and they want us to get attached to characters we don't know just because we are told (not shown) that they're better than the old ones (why does it have to be a competition?).

I miss stories like when Stephen defeats Dormammu by losing and losing and losing until he annoys the hell out of him. I miss scenes like the ones we have in TDW (the Asgard ones) that are so heavy on the characterization that they give up on shiny battles, choosing to have characters just talk to each other instead. I miss honest talks like Steve's or Clint's to Wanda in AoU or the vulnerability of Quill...

They can't translate comic books to the screen, I get that. It's like movies based on regular books, you know you're not gonna get a page-by-page recreation, but it doesn't matter as long as the story is interesting, as long as it says something. Mackie says it pretty well, they're overly controlled by the execs and those are mostly business men who only see numbers and money but have no clue about art.

OKKAY Let’s rewind to chpter 23. Of all things… SHEAR A SHEEP?!😂😂😂😂 Thinking about it, I might actually do it too😂 Tony and Pocket clicked right away. I love their dynamic. He cares for her since the beginning and for someone like Pocket, she needs him. That chapter is wholesome.

Next, even if it’s only 1 part, we got to see Sam and Pocket in action and I can’t wait for more. Sam calling himself dark chocolate is just😂😂😂😂. Also a glimpse of Pocket’s childhood/backstory😔 She’s a tough one which makes me even more worried. The ‘plan’. Buying drugs from Kozlov sounds BAD. This makes me think that they will force her to take some kind of new drugs that made her really vulnerable and kidnapped her. (and i really REALLY think, will be the work of fucker cunthage).

Last but not least, I miss Bucket😂 I miss his stupid head. I cant wait for him to be the knight in shining armor, saving his beloved Pocket and beat the shit out of Jeremiah. I trust Pookie will build him to the manly man he needed to be.

So, the shearing a sheep thing-- I was having a convo with @mrsbuckybarnes1917 and was talking about how I think RDJ and I could be besties, just hanging out and shooting the shit and going on ridiculous adventures, then I was like "he seems like the kind of guy I could shear a sheep with in the middle of the night." And BOOM! An origin story was born! It ended up working out better than I expected. I love writing them together so very much. He really is the solid foundation of her life, and if not for him, who knows where she'd be right now?

Sam calling himself 'Dark Chocolate' was loosely based on Marshall from How I Met Your Mother calling himself 'Big Fudge.' I dunno, as I was writing, I just saw Sam saying it, and I was like 'Bingpot!'

I miss Bucket, too. He has a teeny, tiny over-the-phone cameo in the next part, but they won't be 'on screen' again together until Chapter 25. I should have kept them apart for longer, honestly, but I couldn't resist.

Three parts coming out today, since they're all relatively short, and I'll be leaving you on a bit of cliff hanger to start your weekend. I know you read the comics so I hope you can answer this. I saw that RDJ is coming back as Dr Doom but I don’t know anything about that character. How is he related to Tony Stark? Are they brothers? Is that another name for Iron Man? I hope so - I really miss Iron Man!

Oh, Nonny. I'm so sorry that comics are irritatingly complicated. I can see why this is incredibly confusing.

So. Tony Stark and Dr. Doom are two entirely different characters.

Dr. Victor von Doom is a Fantastic Four villain who runs the country of Latveria -- a generic Eastern European country. He is quite insane and is kind of a diva. I actually really like him because he's nuts in a really entertaining way.

He has zero relation to Tony Stark.

Now. There is a What It... story (what ifs are alternate realities that explore possibilities but are very much not real) where a Tony Stark variant becomes Dr Doom, but that's kind of it.

There are a couple of possibilities going on with the casting

RDJ is playing a twisted version of Tony who went bad/dark and ended up as Dr. Doom just like in the What If story

RDJ is straight up playing the Dr. Doom who is in no way related to Tony (Dr. Doom wears a mask, so this is possible.)

RDJ is playing a body swapped version of Tony Stark who ends up in Dr. Doom's body - because it's comics and they tend to do that a lot.

RDJ is playing a variant Dr. Doom and it's covering up the casting of the REAL Dr. Doom, whomever that might actually be.

Who knows, Nonny, who knows. Hopefully that helps clear some things up?

Victor Von Doom is a nuanced character with an interesting backstory. As discussed, a white actor shouldn't have been cast and if it turns out the MCU isn't even Victor Von Doom but a Tony Stark variant that's even worse. That's tossing aside a major character and someone new in the MCU for more Tony.

If they wanted to bring RDJ back, there was plenty of ways to just bring Tony Stark back. It's a comic book, people come back from the dead all the time, it's expected.

I said way back Doctor Doom should have been the villain the mcu was building up to and not Kang. Especially if they were building to Secret Wars, both series with those titles Doctor Doom is a major player. But I also knew the mcu both missed their shot to do it and as the mcu are now, they would probably screw it up somehow and low and behold.

Watched Oppenheimer and let me just say I am loving this era of RDJ, like it’s been a while since he’s played a different character to how to say Tony stark/Sherlock holmes (I feeel like they had very similar characteristics) and maybe Doolittle but I haven’t seen it.

I say this in the sense that new rdj fans or fans people who haven’t watched his filmography pre Ironman now see the range and talent of this man 💖.

also literally the other day I was thinking of watching something in it. I think also I remeber how squishable his face is, like even under all that makeup and hair I want to squish this 58 year old man’s face omg he’s 🥺. yes, completely! i've missed seeing him act in roles beyond tony stark and sherlock holmes, which has always been my biggest gripe about him basically doing nothing but marvel from 2015 onwards, especially when all of those mcu films were ensemble features instead of solo films so arguably he would have had the time to shoot some other projects. but anyway.

he's incredibly talented and it's so funny how every few years new groups of people crop up realizing this, just because they don't think superhero movies involve acting.

but yes they all looked so different! the hair & makeup and costume departments did a fabulous job with everyone. BUT that one scene where in a split second strauss gave that little smirk? oof, pure robert. i never wanted to jump him more.

Highly recommend checking out the new Sympathizer episode (the whole ass series, actually). It's just that the auteur, aka the character Susan Downey herself said was kinda sexy, finally showed up... and he looks like he fucks good, you know. He's got some sexy chest hair always on display and long-ish hair and all. And there's a scene where we get so see his tummy while he gets a chest/belly rub 😅👀 no wonder RDJ said in his Instagram stories that we wouldn't want to miss this episode 😩😮‍💨🥵

Sorry do you hate marvel or not? You reblogged a gif set from moon knight, that straight up nonsense show, saying they should give a show to one of the supporting characters? You know if you hate marvel media you can just not watch it right

i love stucky but the studio either queerbaited or was clueless or queerphobic plus steve's endgame made no sense. i love rdj's tony stark but he deserved better. they sexualised natasha to the nth degree rather than let scarjo work her drama muscles then killed her off rather than let her retire. moon knight was a mess but it was heartwrenching and different and oscar isaac deserves an award for that portrayal and i have a crush on layla and think may would crush a solo show - an egyptian superhero! (sidenote: i watched hawkeye recently and hated it but the deaf woc who got a redemption arc is getting her own show which is great).

i can care about characters and still hate their treatment - I'm an spn fan, it's second nature for me.

one of the many problems with the mcu is they're churning out multiple shows and movies per year which means they're not giving time to flesh out characters and plots like they deserve to be but it ALSO means a lot of eyes are on them bc when you crank out that much content in this day and age you HAVE to give diverse representation so we're seeing more and more poc characters in shows and on the big screen thanks to the mcu - eternals, shang-chi, moon knight, ms marvel, echo, blue beetle - and yes the mcu's diverse rep is problematic bc they care more about flash than substance and more about algorithms than grounded characterisations but you can't deny that the mcu has helped bring diverse casting into mainstream media. the worst company you know did a good thing, or however the saying goes. think back to the first avenger movies and how whitebred supermodel cishet they were. but thanks to societal influence and the changing of times, it became a necessity to have more poc characters in the mcu. the audience expected it.

however when it comes to queer rep, we've seen a lot more racially and bodily diverse casting and poc characters than we have queer characters. the first onscreen gay kiss took 26 movies and happened in Eternals, and other queer characters have been blink and you'll miss it moments or throwaway lines many viewers don't realise signified queer characters and instead misinterpreted those comments as humour or commentary. we've had a few queer side characters (negasonic x yukio, ayo x aneka, valkyrie, korg) but we're to yet to see a main queer character - and regardless of intention or comic book canon, throwaway lines, possible flirting, and jokes do not qualify as queer rep imho. so loki, deadpool, and tony stark don't count. it has to be explicit and undeniable, not catered to queerphobes so they can easily misinterpret.

but my point is: the mcu is a powerhouse that's been dominating the superhero genre and blockbuster charts for two decades, and from their success they've bet big in planning and putting into production dozens of shows and movies set to be released over the next decade. and that is a terrifying thought. they can't predict the future but they're trying to create content to fit a world that hasn't come into being yet. they're already behind the times on queer rep so i dont have high hopes for whatever they have coming queer-rep wise. but aside from that, their storytelling has become trite and so convoluted that they trade sense for the surprise factor. they're writing characters and plots to fit algorithm parameters like someone trying to say every buzzword in their work presentation. just look at Quantumania: a mess from start to finish in plot, dialogue, characterisations, not to mention stilted acting from a cast forced to act the majority of the film on greenscreen with no physical interactions to ground their performances.

i could go on and on but this post would get long and i'm no expert I'm just your average viewer and tumblr user looking for plots that make sense in stories i want to enjoy because i care about (or want to care about) the characters. if only the mcu cared as much about their characters as they do about big budget seizure inducing interdimensional battle scenes. as for genuine queer rep: maybe in 3 years we'll see a pair of same-sex lips gentle colliding like two pale coconuts. or maybe the mcu will crash and burn (or fizzle out) long before then.

i wanna be done with their stranglehold on the genre since they can't even produce decent shit these days. i want all the strikes going on atm to see creative teams get what they're owed. i want the next dozen mcu productions to flop so they realise they're not hot shit anymore. i want the streamer service upheaval to screw over their longterm plans. i want viewers and bloggers and journalists to call them out for being like the very villains they set up for their heroes to defeat - villains who want to control the cinematic universe, kill off competition, and screw over anyone they consider beneath them.

so yes, i hate the mcu. but there are characters i care about, and plots i wish were done better. but that's why fanfiction exists.

I was drawing Tony as usual, but for some reason his hair ended up looking like the Tiktok middle part hairstyle and I think that Marvel really missed an oportunity here, RDJ would have rocked this hairstyle, i feel like it gives a lot of “Genius, Millionaire, Playboy, Philantrophist” vibes, plus he looks kinda cute. Anyways, just some weird thoughts at 1 AM.
