#ace attorney spoilers#i literally cannot get over the foreshadowing that only really hits when you play the case again with full context of the game in mind#'is this your idea of revenge for what happened 7 years ago'#kristoph projecting 'settling an old score' onto phoenix when that was actually HIS motive#also just the fact that phoenix and kristoph here were basically divorcing in court in front of everyone very bitterly BDKHKAD#also how kristoph's sprites are slowly revealed over time#you go from only seeing his normal ones to suddenly the one where he has his hand on his glasses#then the one where he looks up kinda evily and then the twitchy ones the hair in front of his eyes yadda yadda#they did not have to start this game off with such a banger of a case but im so glad they did#also yes i have played this case specifically 5 times though i should say i have not played apollo justice itself in full 5 times (yet)#the first time i played it i was emulating the game on citra but did not get past the intro to turnabout corner on there#the second time i got the cartridge for christmas and played through the game in full#the third time i started to replay the game only a week after beating it the first time (i don't remember if i made it to the last case)#the fourth time was another replay attempt but i stopped at turnabout serenade#and the fifth time was just today where i intend to replay the rest of the game in its entirety again#i am very normal about Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (lying)#anyways im gonna make sure i actually make it to turnabout succession this time lmao#i dont think ive gotten to that case since i played the first time and i wanna see kristoph's final case as well as see vera again....#turnabout serenade is always about where i stop when replaying the game#i didn't mind the case the first time i played the game but now its kind of a roadblock to me#turnabout trump is great and i love turnabout corner!!#and then there's serenade... but then there's succession!!!!#anyways NDKABDKJD#also don't get me wrong i like serenade just. not as much as the other cases

Apollo Justice 2 AU dialogue
For three years now I've had dialogue moments from the "game" written out in my notes app and I've never shared them. I planned to draw them eventually but I'm horrifically inconsistent so it never happened lol.
Here they are!
(Case AJ2-2, in the defense lobby before the first trial)
???: Excuse me,
Apollo: Ack! (TALL)
???: I presume you're the one they call Justice?
A: Ah! Justice! Um, yep that's me! (She's glaring so intensely, my palms are clamming up already)
Destiny: So then you're the rat I'd heard word of on my crime scene. I'm Prosecutor Atlas, your opponent today.
A: (Rat!??)
Trucy: I think I can see your tail, Apollo!
(more under the cut)
(Case AJ2-3, day 2 of investigation)
Apollo: So you're.... Married to Prosecutor Atlas?
London: Yep!
A: But you're still her personal assistant?
L: Ah! There's no weird motive behind it!
L: We met right before we started.... Working together. When we started dating she didn't want me to lose my job, so we agreed to keep it professional.
A: Couldn't that have gone horribly wrong?!
L: Haha... Yeah, I guess it could have. But spending every day at her side is more than I could have ever asked for.
Phoenix: That's.... Wonderful.....
A: (Mr. Wright looks weird.... wait, are those tears in his eyes?!)
(Case AJ2-3, first investigation, forensics mini-game)
Phoenix: Oh, this feels familiar.
Ema: Feels like the good old days, doesn't it, old guy?
P: Oh come on, I'm not old yet!
E: Yeah yeah, keep telling yourself that, Gramps.
Apollo: (I really wish they wouldn't banter while I'm trying to focus.)
(Case AJ2-3, Right after the end of the TL comic, Klavier has just accepted Apollo's offer to defend him)
Phoenix: You're doing good, Apollo.
Apollo: Mr. Wright?
P: I've been doing a lot of hiding. Should have known you'd know exactly how to drag the truth out of me.
P: You've been a real good sport through all of this.
A: What do you mean?
P: After my... Memorable first impression, I expected you to abandon ship. Run away from my nonsense, from the card.
A: (The card.... He's talking about the forged evidence from my very first trial..... I didn't think he still thought about that moment.)
P: I guess..... I wanted to say thanks.
A: .....With all due respect, sir, where is this coming from?
P: Ah....... I guess this case is just making me sappy.
A: (I guess his talk with Prosecutor Gavin earlier got him thinking about the past...)
(Case AJ2-4, directly after the murder attempt on Trucy. They're in the hospital while she lays on the bed unconscious.)
Phoenix (at her bedside, facing away from Apollo): Trucy.... I never got to give her a stable life to grow up in...
P: I think she could tell I didn't know what to do. But I just kept bluffing. I guess that's all I've ever been good at.
Apollo: Mr. Wright.... Trucy's going to be okay...... She has to be.
P: ..........
P: I know she will be. She's a strong girl.
A: (there's a familiar feeling gripping my wrist...)
A: *sigh* Mr. Wright, you should stay with Trucy. Look after her.
P: !
P: But what about your investigation?
A: I can manage by myself. I know my way around a crime scene by now.
P: ...... Thanks, Apollo.
A: Right, I'll get down to investigating. Tell me if her condition changes.
P: Will do. Good luck.
>move
>hospital hallway
A: *big frustrated sigh*
???: Forgive me for overhearing-
A: Wha-
A: Prosecutor Gavin?!
Klavier: You need help in the investigation, ja?
A: ...What?
K: I want to help you.
A: (What????)
A: Gavin, what brought this on? Why are you here?
K: I was in the crowd for the whole event. I wanted to see how the fraulein was doing.
A: And now you want to help... Me?
K: Fraulein Atlas has already taken the case. I assure you, Forehead, I really do wish to help.
A: But I-
K: You would have been investigating alone this time around, no? It never hurts to have an extra pair of eyes, and you would know mine are quite sharp.
A: I guess but-
K: Perfect! I can drive us back.
A: (Something tells me he isn't going to take no for an answer.)
A: Alright, Gavin. Let's go then.
K: Ah, I was hoping you'd say that!

Apollo Justice - An Overall Opinion
So today I finished playing through Apollo Justice and I have some thoughts. This won't be very in-depth, just a surface level impression deal of things.
It's immediately clear that this was an ambitious attempt to follow up on the Phoenix Wright trilogy, which I really enjoyed playing through. It starts off with an excellent first case - one of the best in the series - that immediately got me interested in where it was going to go.
That said, it was not without its issues. While it succeeds in places like streamlining the game mechanics and some excellent character work between Apollo and Trucy, it feels like it isn’t confident enough to make Apollo his own character. He’s constantly getting tugged along by the narrative and ends up feeling exceedingly passive. This immediately makes itself clear in the second case, where Apollo gets sent on three separate side-quests that just so happen to lead up to him running into his first client. Even then, half the time it feels like Trucy is dragging him around. Contrast this with Phoenix's second case, where he finds Mia dead and insists on defending the dejected and hopeless Maya. Where Phoenix clearly has a strong sense of personal justice and a drive to defend the innocent, Apollo doesn't - not initially. By the last case he does manage to shape up to that same kind of bravado that Phoenix showed.
However, I think it’s too little too late by that time and he ends up overshadowed by Phoenix in his own game. I understand that Apollo is meant to be a fresh rookie trying to find his footing but so was Phoenix. I can't help but compare the two, especially since Wright is literally present and acting as a mentor to the young attorney.
I still really enjoyed this game, but I definitely need a little time to mull over it and solidify my thoughts.

tbh one of the most interesting things to me about working out the secret good version of apollo justice in my head is just breaking down what’s still phoenix & what’s The Other Guy in this au, and what little things have to change for the big ones to still play out mostly the same?
like, if apollo gets hired by The Other Guy, then how does trucy actually wind up investigating with him?
answer: since phoenix doesn’t get disbarred and apparently stop talking to everyone he’s ever known, when ema comes back from europe obviously he reaches out to say hi and introduce her to trucy, so by the start of the game she and trucy are good friends, and sometimes trucy escapes getting roped into helping file papers or clean via a very impressive magic trick known as “oops sorry i totally have plans to hang out with ema today so i can’t help sorry byeeeee,” and so apollo meets them both when he arrives at people park to investigate, and all of that backstory is implied in, like, two sentences of dialogue in their first conversation tops.
ema, ofc, has no idea who apollo is or who he works for, but trucy would presumably know/remember the name of the lawyer from the gramarye case, and would also have at least some awareness of Lawyer Drama given who her adoptive parents are (bc as i have said before and will say again, i give post-3-5 phoenix and edgeworth six months tops before they get their shit together), so in this version trucy recognizes apollo’s name as being the guy who just got klavier gavin’s brother arrested for murdering someone and framing the ex-lawyer who was supposed to defend her first dad for it.
(side note: when ema introduces herself apollo goes Oh Holy Shit You’re The Ema Skye and gets completely starstruck because as far as he’s concerned anyone involved in one of phoenix’s trials is basically a celebrity, which of course sends trucy through the roof (which is particularly impressive given that they’re all outdoors))
also in this version i think apollo does introduce himself to klavier, but only after klavier leads the way to the crime scene, and klavier also knows who this guy is and is super uncomfortable. which actually probably contributes to trucy choosing to follow apollo around; i go back and forth on whether trucy should feel as weird about klavier in this version as i think she should in canon but either way, he feels almost as awkward around her as i think he should in canon, and given the way she canonically treats apollo i think if nothing else she would probably think that’s pretty funny. so she instantly decides to befriend apollo bc it’ll probably be really funny watching klavier try to not react to that (and also a little bc it’s weird that this guy is connected both to her first dad’s ex-lawyer and indirectly to klavier and she’s curious about what’s actually up with that), and then hey it turns out apollo’s kind of fun to mess with too, and then by the end of their first or second case together they’re just legitimately friends now.
but branching off from that, another fun little divergence: apollo has to find out about the different parts of the case in a different order, in this version, bc in canon trucy brings him to the hospital so phoenix can tell him to find the guy who hit phoenix with a car last night, then on the way out they meet guy eldoon who hires them to find the noodle stand, and then they meet plum kitaki (and alita tiala) because the hit-and-run was right outside the kitakis’ house & investigate the meraktis clinic because it’s near where the noodle stand was stolen from, and then they go back to the WAA to meet alita tiala, and it’s only after that that they finally head to the park and meet klavier and ema.
but if apollo only meets trucy at the park then i think he’s gotta get hired by guy eldoon first (which, on the flip side of the car accident still having to be phoenix, guy eldoon has to still know apollo’s inscrutable asshole ex-lawyer mentor or i can’t figure out a good way for apollo to get involved in literally any of this)—the kitakis’ house can be be between IAELM’s not-a-law-office (wherever that is) and the meraktis clinic/noodle stand, so apollo meets alita tiala on the way there, and maybe asks for directions? which she gives but then wants to know why he’s looking for where the noodle stand currently isn’t so he explains he’s a lawyer and has been hired to investigate the theft, and she asks him to defend her fiance on the spot, and he can’t say no, so now he’s got two cases.
admittedly the murder should probably be higher priority, but he’s already this close to where the noodle stand was stolen from so he pokes around near the meraktis clinic first (possibly with alita tiala temporarily following because Hey When Are You Going To Start Working On My Fiancé’s Case / oh shit please don’t notice any connections between the meraktis clinic & said fiancé), finds out dr. meraktis is dead, maybe notices the broken side mirror (or overhears the cops talking about it?), etc., then heads to the park to check out the scene of crime #2, where he promptly meets klavier and trucy-and-ema, and things proceed as established:
i.e. trucy promptly decides to “befriend” apollo (which ofc turns into being friends for real by the end of the case), so when apollo leaves to go to the detention center, and then back to actually meet plum kitaki (since on his own apollo probably avoided her but that’s now his client’s mother), trucy follows, and then eventually she says it’s been fun but she has to go visit her dad in the hospital because he got hit by a car last night and it’s been a couple hours since she checked on him, and apollo is like HE GOT HIT BY A CAR??? IS HE OKAY? and trucy’s like “oh he’s fine” because the entire reason it’s still phoenix who gets hit by the car is that no one else could have survived that with nothing but a sprained ankle, and “yeah so this guy got hit by a car and flung thirty feet into a telephone pole, which he hit head-first. yeah he sprained his ankle” is way too funny to lose. but she does invite apollo to come meet him and he feels like he should decline in favor of continuing to investigate but he’s still starstruck enough by the idea of Meeting Phoenix Wright that he can’t quite say no.
so in this version, phoenix isn’t getting totally knocked off the pedestal because he hasn’t actually become a total asshole who’s going to treat apollo terribly, but he is going to turn out to be a real person who is in some ways much more human and in some ways much less a normal human being than apollo expected, beginning with “the first time apollo sees him in person he’s in a hospital bed because of All That”
and so apollo does already know about the hit-and-run before winding up outside the meraktis clinic again, so they can spot the broken side mirror and make the connection, and the rest of the case can all play out pretty much like canon from there, i think!
okay so. potentially controversial opinion i guess but apollo justice (the game, though actually also the character) was kind of a mess. i wanted to like it, there was a ton of potential, but the execution just did not work for me at all. but it’s been haunting me for weeks and (unlike dual destinies, which also didn’t really work for me but i cannot for the life of me figure out why) i know exactly what i didn’t like about apollo justice and how i would fix it if capcom decided remake AA4–AA6 and inexplicably put me in charge. fair warning this is at least 80% complaining by volume about what they didn’t do/what they did do that i hated though.
like, okay, here’s the thing. it’s a new story. phoenix has had his arc, we’re moving on to a new main character, he isn’t the protagonist anymore. it makes sense to move him into a mentor/boss role while our new protagonist takes over as the plucky young newbie who doesn’t really know what he’s doing. the problem is that everything about how the game does that kind of sucks.
like. AJ phoenix gets totally shafted for the sake of not letting him be a good mentor, so that apollo has to figure things out on his own, but apollo isn’t really treated right by the narrative either, because the plot is so much about phoenix that apollo is like. weirdly peripheral to the whole thing even though he’s nominally the protagonist. like it’s super obvious that the whole reason phoenix isn’t an attorney anymore and is all ✨ mysterious✨ and ✨secretive✨ is literally just so that apollo doesn’t actually like. have a good mentor who can teach him things? like the entire plot/backstory is just a post-hoc excuse bc the starting point of the game was clearly someone going “well we’re not allowed to not have phoenix in the game, but we can’t let him be someone apollo can actually rely on, so we have to find some excuse to make him weird and mysterious and uncommunicative and also not a lawyer just for good measure bc otherwise he wouldn’t leave a kid hanging like that” and everything else was built up to justify that.
but as if it’s not bad enough that it all requires shattering phoenix’s perfectly good reasonably-happy-ending from the previous game, by extension everyone else gets screwed over too?? like, maya was very explicitly traumatized by the kurain channeling legacy to the point of briefly not wanting to identify herself as a spirit medium. pearl was sheltered from some of the worst of it but was aware of enough to blame herself for bad things happening to the point of trying to run away. the credits definitely made it seem like they both bounced right back after all but frankly i was not convinced they weren’t going to both collapse as soon as the figurative camera looked away again and the most plausible short-term outcome to me was that they would wind up both moving in with phoenix for a while in the near future like maya all but said she wanted to do!! she called herself “the assistant manager at Wright & Co. Law Offices” and said she “[didn’t] want any more to do with [the Fey clan],” that is IN the TEXT i am not reading too much into things here those are her words! i’m fine with her potentially changing her mind again and resuming her training again and moving back to kurain after all when she’s had some time to recover from everything but like. when she’s had some time. she deserved more than two months and i hate so much that she didn’t get it.
on the flip side, again, i get the choice to deliberately not-include edgeworth in this one but i swear to god it should have taken him and phoenix like. maybe four months to finish getting their act together and that’s being generous and counting the month it takes him to wrap things up in europe and move back to japanifornia. i’m pretty sure edgeworth figured out how he felt when he got the phone call from larry about the bridge if he hadn’t already by then and i think phoenix simultaneously realized and refused to realize how he felt during the year he thought edgeworth is dead, bc neither of them can just be normal about feeling things ever, so give them a second for phoenix to stop repressing shit and also mention that he’s absolutely not going to get back together with iris when she gets out of jail and they Will sort themselves out and they Will kiss and i give it like a year tops before they get married. they have a courthouse wedding obviously and get the judge to officiate. 50/50 chance they wind up proposing in the middle of a trial and get married during the next recess.
and in canon there’s not time for all that to have happened bc the next game requires phoenix to have promptly turned into an arrogant asshole and then gotten royally fucked over by the universe and become a totally different person (again, at that, because he’s already a completely different person in the flashback to his last case, why does he act like the paynes that whole time i hate it), but like. this is what i’m saying. phoenix getting screwed over by the universe/writing also screws all his friends over too.
so i just. this game does such a disservice to phoenix’s entire character, and all of his friends, and also the entire first three games and anyone who loved them. it’s not all bad and the person phoenix has been turned into—“has been turned into,” not “has turned into,” because the hand of the writers is so visible, i can’t engage with this game on a fully watsonian level for the life of me because phoenix’s hoodie might as well say DOYLE CHOSE TO DO THIS TO ME. this is a fictional character being written by real people and the real people wrote him in a manner entirely incompatible with his original characterization and i cannot get past it—is fascinating but it isn’t phoenix. i love the plot but i hate the execution. i like the ingredients but the recipe sucks.
but it could have been so good. and at this point i’ve mostly worked out how.
you have the exact same scenario with the gramarye trial, is the thing, up through the point where phoenix wins the poker game and shadi enigmar/zak gramarye asks him to be his lawyer, and phoenix accepts—and then phoenix, like, gets a phone call from maya or pearl bc it turns out one of them just got hurt, or they’ve both come down with some kind of stomach bug or food poisoning or something, some temporary emergency that’s just severe enough that they need more help/care for a day or two than phoenix could give while also handling a case, but that won’t actually last all that long.
so he turns down the case apologetically bc oh my god i’m so sorry actually, family emergency, i gotta go right now, best of luck, and shadi/zak moves on to defense attorney number three: a different, brand new character, another rising star defense attorney around the same point in their career as phoenix, and that’s who winds up using the forged diary page and getting disbarred and turning into the bitter jaded inscrutable asshole mentor who years later will manipulate apollo into exposing his own boss as a murderer, and then technically hire apollo but not actually, like, teach him anything or help out in any meaningful way, etc.
but meanwhile, three facts about this series of events:
8yo trucy is still the unwitting catalyst for the lawyer defending her father using forged evidence that destroys his career, and her father still vanishes and leaves her behind
within a couple days, pearl and maya are basically fine
phoenix wright’s best friend was once a kid barely older than trucy is now who suddenly found himself with no family, and as a result was taken in by someone who had a deep and abiding grudge against both him and his father because of what they did, through no real fault of their own, to him/his career.
and since phoenix did meet shadi/zak and turned his case down, he has every reason to be curious about how the trial went, and to pick up either from the general news coverage (which, considering what a big deal phoenix’s disbarment in canon was, i assume there is A Lot Of,) or to realize bc his personal curiosity/almost-connection means he actively looks into things, that there is a kid who has been left behind and who currently has no one to take care of her. and you cannot tell me that phoenix would look at this kid whose best-case scenario is currently getting swept into the foster care system bc god forbid she actually winds up getting taken in by the only adult even vaguely associated with her at this point, bc phoenix has seen that story before, and not decide on the spot to adopt her himself
and so just like that, we have
phoenix accidentally escaping the whole gramarye trial entirely unscathed
but still adopting trucy
pearl and maya still living with phoenix a couple months post-T&T instead of immediately getting packed off back to kurain
no changes that actually significantly impact apollo for most of the game bc all that’s really different for him is the name of his inscrutable jerk mentor and the fact that he’s gotta wind up meeting/being-befriended-by trucy a little differently
so by the time the actual present-day plot of the game kicks off, phoenix and company are still out there doing their thing with phoenix getting to be his best self and living his best life. he still gets his adorable adopted daughter who he loves dearly. we still don’t actually see maya or edgeworth or pearl in this version of the game but there’s allusions to them all being very present in his-and-trucy’s lives—trucy brings us over to their apartment at some point and we see a stack of steel samurai dvds in the corner and a laundry basket with unidentifiable clothes in suspiciously familiar shades of purple/pink/magenta, details like that. we only see phoenix himself for like, maybe five minutes total over the course of the first three and a half cases and it’s a little tantalizing but he gets to be the one who bursts into the courthouse with the decisive evidence that lets our protagonist win the last case.
and meanwhile, apollo’s current boss is shady and inscrutable and used to be a lawyer and can even be involved in some ✨ secret mission ✨ that he won’t talk about that turns out to be the jurist system, so we can hypothetically keep whatever the intended message of that whole thing was (which, argh, what do you DO with the jurist system. what is the intended message. i get that it’s satire of a then-contemporary development in japan’s legal system but i can’t figure out for the life of me what the satire is actually meant to say), and then at the end of the game Apollo’s Shitty Mentor is proven to have been innocent and will be allowed to take the bar again if he wants to but he’s not entirely sure bc at this point it’s been so long that he might just prefer to move on entirely now that his actual disbarment/disgrace isn’t hanging over his head bc he honestly did used to be a pretty stand-up guy but the last seven years have been rough and he doesn’t really like the person he’s turned into and maybe it would be healthier to treat this as a fresh start and try something entirely new so he’s going to take some time away from the whole legal system first to clear his head before he figures out whether or not he actually wants to dive back in.
and apollo’s like “well that’s totally understandable and sounds great for you but goddammit do i really have to go back to the endless nightmare that is job applications, i hate this actually” and phoenix (who is also in the defense lobby where this whole conversation is taking place) is like “why don’t you come work for me?”
you could even have it end on a joke where apollo is shocked about the offer bc he applied to work for phoenix six months ago and phoenix is like ???? i never saw that?? and it turns out apollo applied via email but phoenix still sucks at computers and only checks his work email like once a year.
seriously though i do not understand what we’re supposed to think about the jurist system. is it supposed to be that fucked up? i’m not actually sure how we’re supposed to feel abt that tbh but it sounds like maybe it’s not supposed to seem like an actually better alternative? like it felt to me like it was being framed as a triumph for our belovèd hero, isn’t this great that he was able to arrange things so everything would turn out all right after all etc, but it was so obviously fucked up and unethical—like, oh, yeah, having one guy in charge of assigning the defense attorney, the judge, and the jury sounds totally fine and like it’s actually going to be more reliably ethical than the system that’s already in place, for sure, not to mention the possibility that edgeworth was pulling strings to help phoenix make it happen and be involved, because nepotism and people in law enforcement/the justice system pulling strings to put people they like in positions of authority that they probably shouldn’t have specifically so that they can do things like “rig a jury,” on purpose, is fine bc i like these guys who are doing/benefiting from the nepotism so therefore it’s not wildly unethical and an obviously terrible idea, oh my god—that it feels like it has to be on purpose?
and like in practice it just… the jurist system as it’s actually implemented is worse actually. it’s genuinely worse and less ethical than the established system where the judge was about to let kristoph gavin off scot-free for the crimes he wasn’t already convicted of.
that said it’s like. very funny on a conceptual level. yet another thing that makes sense if the games are set in japan bc sure of course fictional kinda goofy japan has a more ridiculous version of the thing that’s being implemented in real-life japan right now, but when localized the implications are buck-fucking-wild
because. okay. japanifornia exclusively has bench trials or whatever they’re called for some reason. i have questions about why that’s legal given the existence of the sixth amendment but sure fine the japanifornian legal system is deeply fucked up in many new and interesting ways and that is clearly just one of them. but you’re telling me that the entire concept of trial by jury is strange and new to a lawyer? like. did the entire country just. ditch the sixth amendment before apollo was born? why is this a brand new concept instead of, you know, how things work in every other state. i have so many questions that do not need answers. thank god these games are old enough to have gotten localized it’s so much funnier this way.
ANYWAY. SO. yeah. make apollo’s inscrutable asshole so-called mentor someone other than phoenix wright, have way less of phoenix in the game actually bc he’s off living his best life and having a thriving career with very little reason to think about how kristoph gavin exists, and meanwhile write apollo with All That Backstory in mind from the start though 95% of the actual info should still be saved for game 6, we’re just trying to write apollo so he’s not completely flat and frankly pretty forgettable at times and also including foreshadowing so the khura’in thing isn’t a very obvious retcon when we get there, and turn klavier into an actual person, and that’s like. 95% of my frustrations with the game fixed right there (the other 5% is “i still can’t tell what we’re actually supposed to think/feel about the jurist system” but like. i can’t tell what we’re supposed to think/feel so i don’t know how to fix it).
well okay also the like, pacing and focus would need to be fixed so apollo’s incrutable jerk mentor isn’t the protagonist for half the last case to the point i forgot apollo existed, etc, but like. that’s the next level down of problems you know?
AND bonus points: splitting “phoenix” and “apollo’s inscrutable jerk mentor” into two separate characters automatically fixes yet another of the worst He Would Not Fucking Do Thats of the game, i.e. phoenix just. not telling trucy and apollo that they’re siblings and their mom is alive. bc apollo’s shitty mentor is the one who actually interacts with lamiroir offscreen, this phoenix never does, so apollo’s mentor is the one who has the opportunity to figure out who she is and that trucy and apollo are half-siblings, and they’re not his kids, apollo doesn’t even work for him anymore by the end of the game so what does he care whether she tells them, and meanwhile phoenix isn’t inexplicably hiding that information because he also doesn’t know. still relies on her continuing to hide her face professionally in the meantime (instead of being deeply stupid about the fact that she is super famous, twice, and if she goes around being Very Famous And Popular Singer Lamiroir someone will notice that she is very much also Very Famous And Popular Believed-Dead Magician Thalassa Gramarye and between the existence of the news and the existence of the internet her kids will inevitably find out, jesus CHRIST parts of this game are so badly written), but that’s a given
i have a whole bunch of other thoughts—mostly about klavier gavin bc he should be such a good character but he just doesn’t work, but also i think the structure of the last case would have to be pretty significantly modified to fix the pacing/structural/focus issues where our nominal protagonist is basically irrelevant for the bulk of the case, even while the plot would remain basically the same, but i haven’t figured out how the structure would be different bc that requires figuring out how to handle the whole jurist system thing—but that’s like. the coherent parts/the bulk of it, you know?
i think (really this is just a detail, not a major plot point, but it would have a pretty major impact thematically so it feels bigger than it is? so) the other main thing i would change—and this part isn’t actually real criticism bc it’s not, like, bad that they didn’t do this, and if they were going to make any changes there are a lot of things that should be higher on the list, but listen. zak and valant should’ve been brothers.
because like, first of all, the extra complexity of the relationship if they’re not just two random guys who met bc they were functionally coworkers/fellow students, and instead you have these two brothers with the same mentor and who are both in love with the same woman, and they both know that one of them is better at magic and their mentor’s favorite, and he’s also the one who the woman they’re both in love with loves back and has a kid with, etc? a favorite/least favorite child dynamic occurring spontaneously, presumably in adulthood, in their professional lives? like. it makes everything about their relationship with each other, and with magnifi, and zak’s relationship with thalassa, and valant’s relationship with trucy, way more complex and interesting without actually having to change anything else.
but then secondly, on top of all that, suddenly this is a game about siblings. zak & valant, apollo & trucy, and kristoph & klavier. suddenly you have these three different sibling relationships that are all very different but two of them actually get to be siblings but are super fucked up, and the last pair meet entirely by chance without any idea who the other person is or should be to them but wind up with the healthiest happiest relationship of the three? like, the tragedy of it, that apollo and trucy were separated by fate and literally no one knew they both existed except their own mother, who thought apollo was dead before trucy was ever born, and if not for whatever series of coincidences resulted in apollo happening to work for the man who ruined trucy’s father’s life and getting roped into that whole mess they might never have met at all, and as it was they lost however many years they could’ve had each other, etc etc, and yet despite it all they’re the ones who actually manage to be happy and, like, unconditionally positive presences in each other’s lives, while valant spends however long resenting zak for being magnifi-and-thalassa’s favorite and more talented and all that which presumably put a strain on their relationship bc being resented that deeply by someone that close to you for things that you don’t even actually control can’t feel good, and kristoph and klavier… [gestures vaguely] idk whatever they would feel about each other if the writers remembered klavier was supposed to be a person. and aside from the klavier bits all of that is in the game already, implicitly or explicitly, just waiting for someone to rewrite like three lines of dialogue so zak and valant aren’t Just Some Guys to each other.
anyway a lot of the other thoughts i have are like. details. it probably never gets established explicitly but phoenix probably never gets to know kristoph gavin that well, and conversely kristoph doesn’t care about phoenix bc he might not even know he would’ve been passed over for phoenix before the other guy. ema is friendlier bc even though she is still upset about being a detective and does still think klavier’s annoying, she doesn’t actively resent him for getting phoenix disbarred. also she’s already good friends with trucy. the biggest plot-difference that isn’t just a natural result of phoenix not getting disbarred is that i think phoenix has to be the one who gets hit by the car in 4-2 instead of that happening to apollo’s jerk mentor bc no other human being on the planet could get thrown thirty feet by a car and hit a telephone pole with his head and still only wind up with a sprained ankle out of the deal.

Not Actually AA7 Speculation It's AA4 This Time
Hi. Long time no see. I have a list of posts tagged aa7 speculation and though this post will not be about aa7 (though I will briefly bring it up) I just want to keep all my incorrect theorizing in the same place. BUT there's been some intriguing news today I wanted to bring up and talk through the possibilities of.
A couple days ago, March 14 2022, Final Weapon reported that Capcom recently put in a trademark for Apollo Justice and theorized this could mean that Capcom is planning a 456 collection. I wanted to do a bit of investigating myself, and walk through and break down what this could possibly mean.
For the sake of sparing people from scrolling past this whole thing the rest will be under the cut.
Significance Of The Trademark?
You like me may have at first asked "okay, but what does this mean?" Is it a trademark for Apollo Justice The Character? Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney The Video Game? Why wasn't this copyrighted before, given that AA4 was released in 2007?
The Japanese trademark watch cited in the original article can be seen here, and it is indeed just... "Apollo Justice". I thought that was interesting given it is Japanese, and not "Odoroki Housuke" (his Japanese name) or "Gyakuten Saiban 4" (the title of the game). The full page for Capcom doesn't give much more information on anything... it only has ten trademarks going back about a year. Nothing more definitive. On that list are things like "Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak" which was announced September 2021, though the site lists it as being trademarked January 2022.
What about in English? This site has a bunch of information on more of Capcom's trademarks, but goes back further. Here's the one for the new Apollo Justice trademark, which, if you scroll down far enough, *does* show the original trademark from 2007, which is here. And... okay, I don't know anything about copyright law at all, especially not Japanese copyright law. So take this next bit with a grain of salt and please please please do correct me if you know better than I do.
According to this website, trademarks need to be renewed in Japan ten years after registration. Looking back at the 2007 AJ trademark, the trademark was officially registered April 14 2009 with a renewal date of April 14 2019. ... eerily close to the day Phoenix got disbarred actually. I think that's neat. Anyways, scrolling down a little further, we can see a list of a whole bunch of actions happening with this trademark (<- totally has no idea what's going on here) but there IS a part listed as "REGISTERED AND RENEWED (FIRST RENEWAL - 10 YRS)" on December 13 2018. So it's not that like Capcom let the trademark die and had to make a new one because they forgot to renew for three years, which is what I'd been fearing was the case. But there might be something interesting here!
To truly follow along through this next part, you can open up the trademarks for the two (the 2007 and 2022 ones) and read them side-by-side. Go to the "Goods, Services, and Codes" section.
The 2007 one has a list of things associated with this trademark, mostly related to the manufacturing and selling of games. That's typical. The 2022 list, though, has WAY more things on the list. Also, generally related to the manufacturing and selling of games, but updated for the world we live in now -- online games are mentioned here but I suspect that's just what capcom generally applies for, I doubt we're getting online multiplayer apollo justice -- but also a lot more related to various merchandising. Plays? Musicals? Radio and television programs?
... I think it's interesting. This seems to be a new trademark that is now covering a lot more stuff.
What Do Other Games Have?
Interesting you should ask.
Phoenix Wright was filed for in 2005. Ace Attorney in general was filed for in 2006. Ace Attorney Investigations was in 2009. These are all under the same "international code 9" that Apollo Justice is.
Phoenix Wright, however, was similarly "redone" to add "international code 41" (like Apollo Justice 2022) in 2020. "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN", you ask, shaking me, "I DON'T KNOW", I yell, being shaken. 2020 is after the release of all games, it is after the Takarazuka Musical productions, it is after all of the stage plays, it is after both seasons of the anime, AND it is after all trilogy rereleases including the most recent 2019 release on most modern gaming platforms. I don't know what this could possibly mean. And I think at this point it's getting too deep into legalese for me to reasonably speculate. Again, any more informed opinions are suuuuper appreciated. And if anyone wants to dig into Japanese copyright stuff more, that's also super appreciated.
You may notice I'm leaving out one trademark here. The Great Ace Attorney was filed under international codes 9 and 41 the day after it was announced it was going to be ported. Again, I'm not confident enough to go digging around for it on Japanese trademark websites, so we're going to work with what we've got here. I wouldn't be surprised if they filed it under both to cover their bases from the outset, and we haven't had any news of TGAA anime/stage plays/movies/musicals yet.
What's interesting is why they had to change Apollo Justice, and now. Though with the evidence I've collected I can't say I have anything definitive or even a concrete trend, given the confusing timing of the Phoenix Wright application above.
What About The Leaks?
Yes, what about the November 2020 leaks? I've covered them briefly in this outdated post. In summary, the leaks (or more specifically, the calendar) had three major pieces of information related to ace attorney:
1) The Great Ace Attorney will be officially translated into English, for sale April-June 2021.
2) AA7 is in development, and will be released around the time of the 20th anniversary, October-December 2021.
3) Through this time, reconsider porting AA456.
Well, it is March 2022 and we haven't heard a single thing about AA7; it's safe to assume it has been significantly postponed, possibly in part because of the pandemic, possibly in part because this just happens with game development sometimes. TGAA, however, was announced and released just a little late in July 2021. This latest news, however, is the first hint we might have towards porting 456. From the wording there, it sounds like Capcom intends to release it as a collection (though... given the drastically different styles from AA4 to 5 and 6, this is an interesting choice) and if so, I wouldn't be surprised if they would refer to it as the "Apollo Justice Collection". (Which... I have my issues with this name, but whatever, let's try to remain unbiased.)
Presumably, AA7 is significantly delayed. Like, it's looking like it might be another year, maybe more. In this post though, I've briefly discussed how I think TGAA is actually doing super well financially. Presumably, previously, the decision to port or not to port 456 would be dependent both on how well TGAA does and how well AA7 would do. With no AA7, they might be making this decision solely based on TGAA. And they... might actually decide it's worth the port?
So What Could This Mean?
I have three theories.
1. We're Getting 456 Ports As An "Apollo Justice Collection".
Or possibly, just AA4 on its own. It's hard to tell -- the trilogy has been ported as a trilogy for a long time, but with 5 and 6 being much more recent and only having mobile ports, it's hard to say if they'd go together or not. The 2D vs 3D would definitely be strange for it to be packaged together, plus, the characters and plots aren't cohesive throughout the three games like 123 were, and it's not different parts of the same story like TGAA was. But regardless, putting out a 3-in-1 collection would be more likely to get some money from a business perspective, especially since these are less popular than the trilogy.
2. We're Getting An Apollo Justice Anime, Movie, Stage Play, Musical, Something, Who Knows.
This is mostly because of the updated section 41 that includes all sorts of fun adaptations. I would love most of these and it would tide us over until another game comes out. We still have another stage play in the works that's been delayed, so it might be a little while before an AJ stage play would be able to happen. As for musicals, there hasn't been a Takarazuka musical of ace attorney since 2013, but who knows if they'd want to revisit it now? I think out of these an anime or a future stage play is the most likely.
3. Capcom Is Messing With Me, Personally
"Fuck you," says Capcom, "Don't you have better things to do? Don't you have a thesis? Aren't you supposed to be working on that right now instead of speculating and reading up on Japanese copyright law? Why don't you find something better to do with your life, you loser, instead of getting excited over a trademark application that means absolutely nothing. Get off of tumblr and get to work. You're never getting anything from us ever again. There is no AA7, there is no 456 port, and THERE IS NO OFFICIAL ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS 2!!"
...
We'll have to wait and see how things shake out.

5 and 15 for the ask meme?
5. Favorite Head Canon I like to use:
Klavier and Franziska are distantly related and there is a Gavin / von Karma blood fued going on because the Gavins became defense attorneys to rival the von Karmas. Klavier is the first prosecutor in generations, further alienating him from his family while simultaneously earning him *some* respect with Franziska. Miles stays out of it.
Bonus: Apollo the Disney Adult and all my indulgent SoCal references
15. WIP snippet
Was debating between Fumbling, Strange Days and Heard Your Heart Beating but then I realized I don’t want to spoil the penultimate chapter of Fumbling, and The only thing I’ve written for SD are spicy scenes so I’ll keep those for another time. The scene from HYHB next chapter is actually pretty sad ( Apollo’s birthday + grieving over Clay) so I’m going to post a snippet from another chapter after that. Sorry that it’s rough- it’s an early draft.
————
“Are you free right now, Mr. Justice?” No matter how much time he’d spent with Miles outside of work at game nights and other informal functions with Miles Edgeworth, a part of Apollo still withered under the Chief Prosecutor’s gaze.
“Uh yes, I was just going to process these documents” he indicated the folder that was neatly organized in the brief case Mr. Wright and Mr. Edgeworth had gifted him for his birthday, “and then I was going to see if Mr, Wright was ready to go back the office-“
:read more:
“Good, come with me,” the other man practically commanded, turning towards the courtroom exit, “Wright will be meeting us upstairs.”
“Oh that’s good, that’s where I was going-“ Apollo said lamely as he shoved the rest of his court documents into the briefcase (hoping Edgeworth didn’t notice), and hurried to keep up with the other man.
Several flights of stairs later, Apollo thought his legs were going to give out- how could ride his bike through traffic but stairs could wind him? Mr. Edgeworth looked unphased, the man’s usual placid expression in place, as they climbed at the fast clip Mr. Edgeworth set for the.
Come to think of it, Mr. Edgeworth seemed to be in a hurry and the back of his shoulders were tense.
“So, where are we going?” Apollo attempted to ask as the door on the landing above them,as if on cue, slammed open to reveal his boss who was looking especially harried despite him winning his case.
“Oh good you got him, we got to hurry they office is going to close in fifteen, and there’s a lot more paperwork- I’ve been trying to get it all filled out for us.”
Apollo pushed himself up the final steps, “uh- where are we going? Is everything okay? you both look nervous”
Mr. Wright gave him a wide grin, “Nothing’s wrong”, and rubbed the back of his neck. Apollo knew that tick well enough- something was up.
“Nothing is wrong, Apollo; the officiant requires us to have a witness,” Edgeworth said primly pausing a moment to adjust his fiancé’s tie, before taking Mr. Wright by the hand and pulling him into the hallway at a brisk pace.
Apollo blinked, “Officiant?” As he scrambled after the pair, and then he realized where they actually were- the 7th floor.
The Office of the County Clerk Recorder. To be more specific.
“YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED??? NOW?!” Apollo yelled, “ On a Tuesday?!”
This wasn’t good. They had been doing so much prep; Apollo had finally planned the bachelors party (well, Klavier had done that. Apollo just had to convince Chief Gumshoe and Larry that they had contributed).
He did not just spend his Sunday evening convincing Wright and Edgeworth’s best friend from childhood, that booking VIP rooms at various strip clubs in North Hollywood, was not going to go over well with either groom, for the pair to just go and essentially elope before the end of the work day.
“Wedding planning is a terrible headache and we’re sick of it,” Mr. Edgeworth said hurriedly.
Phoenix gave Apollo a nervous smile, “His sister has completely taken over the planning- what was the final straw this time, babe?”
“ Apparently Franziska doesn’t approve that the cumberbunds don’t match some other inane item-“ the Chief Prosecutor snapped, “Apollo whenever you get married, tell your partner you want to elope. And do it immediately after you announce your engagement.”
Mr. Wright now looked more amused than sheepish, “Last month when we were on the Judge’s spring boat soirée , Miles almost had the captain marry us when Fran texted us about runner material. Apparently the one we picked makes distracting noises and looks ‘cheap’. Thank god Gumshoe was there to guikt him out of it; apparently he’s never been in a wedding aside his own and he really wants to be Miles’ best man”
Apollo felt his cheeks heat unexpectedly. This was all too much, “Wait. wait...but still..you can’t get married today- I mean the wedding’s only two months away-“ he was finding it difficult to not lag behind the taller men as their pace picked up.
“Why on earth did I allow us to get talked into June? Only five months to plan-foolish“ Edgeworth muttered.
The Clerk-Recorder’s office loomed in the distance. Apollo was frantically trying to come up with something to make them reconsider. Prosecutor von Karma and Maya would have his head if Wright and Edgeworth went through with this.
Guilt. Chief Gumshoe had done it...maybe Apollo could too:
“Are you seriously going to get married without Trucy being here?” Apollo blurted a little too loudly.
It had the intended effect though; Mr. Wright nearly slammed into his fiancé as Mr. Edgeworth suddenly stopped short.

GS4 vs AJ:AA - Episode 2, Part 5
Here’s the last court segment of this episode! It’s also relatively shorter than the usual posts, but there’s a lot of dialogue I captured for context, so it doesn’t look shorter. There’s not too much deviation between the source and localized after we covered all the changes made to the Kitaki’s previously.
For once I started earlier today and got through it pretty quickly, but for the sake of a consistent posting schedule, I’ll stick with around midnight PST every other day or so. Seems like the best rhythm for me that I can keep up with.

> Court Lobby
June 17, 9:52 AM District Court Defendant Lobby No. 2
This is it, the big day! Did you get any sleep?
Yeah, I went to bed at 1:00 AM or so.
Oh? What time did you wake up?
That's only two hours, Apollo...
But, at least you have me!
...And the Amazing Mr. Hat!
<Mr. Here's looking at you, kid.
Originally: "Yes, I'm always keeping an eye on you." (It's supposed to sound supportive, I swear.)
>
Daddy! Do you know who Prosecutor Gavin's witness is today?
Take a guess!
Hmm... How about Little Plum?
Ah ha ha! That Sherman tank of a mom? Nope, guess again.
That's too bad. You know, speaking of moms...
You need to find me a new mommy one of these days, Daddy!
It's barely morning and you're at it already, Trucy!
Ah ha ha ha ha ha!
<Apollo> (だから、ウソっぽいんだよなあ、 この親子) (OK, see, this is why I don't buy their "father-daughter" relationship.)
I commented previously that Apollo questioned their father-daughter relationship and legitimately forgot that he also says this, and this time it does match what he originally said. So, my bad.
Also, Naruhodou describes her as "キモっ玉" (kimottama), meaning she got "guts" or "pluck" to her. I appreciate the "Sherman tank", though.
> Courtroom
<Judge> 少なくとも、 ハッキリわかったことは‥‥ We did find out one thing for certain.
There were three people in the park at the time of the murder:
‥‥そして目撃者の3人しか いなかった、というコトです。 The witness, the victim, and the defendant.
And today, I'd like to do something a little new age.
I'd like to look at this horrible crime... from the outside.
The "outside"...?
<Klavier> “凶器の入手経路”‥‥ “犯行準備”‥‥ The acquisition of the murder weapon... The preparation for the act...
Our poor defendant told all, you see.
...To his betrothed.
His... bee trove?
...His fiancée, Herr Judge. His partner for life... with no chance for parole.
Very well, you may show the erm... "lucky" lady to the stand.
Once again, the judge struggles with words outside of his language, and Kyouya, being the resident English expert, has to explain. That being said, "bee trove" is suspiciously apt as a metaphor to describe her...
>
...Your name and occupation, Fräulein.
My occupation... is future wife.
Ah, traditional values! I respect that.
Too many brides these days can't even weave baskets blindfolded... underwater.
Yet you're here today as a witness for the prosecution?
To be honest, I didn't want to testify at first.
But... I couldn't hide the truth.
Hmm. Honesty! Another admirable trait.
Originally, his "underwater blindfolded basket weaving" standards were about soft-boiling eggs so that the yolk hardens while the white remains soft. They're called "onsen tamago" because these eggs were traditionally cooked in a hot spring, but can be cooked in any ol' pot between 70-80°C (158-176°F). It's one of those old-timey signs that a soon-to-be-wed would be a good wife because she could cook. Now, the only time I'd ever see these eggs is when I don't boil them hotly enough.
On that note, nowadays there are underwater basket weaving Olympics. Thanks, Rio 2016. Maybe Tokyo 2020 (2021?) could include a special event category for egg-boiling.
> 1st Witness Testimony, press 3rd statement
Not really, I think. There's a system in place to limit access.
But Wocky's a special case, being the next-in-line.
Perhaps his treatment was a bit too special, ja?
Well, maybe he is a bit spoiled...
I hear he got amazing presents for his birthdays.
Last year was a switchblade made out of chewing gum and a chocolate gravestone!
<Apollo> (アブナイものが好きなのか、 アマいものが好きなのか‥‥) (Sounds like he has a taste for sweets... and danger.)
Originally, they were a rubber dosu and a chocolate hanafuda card. Danger AND gambling, but the kid-friendly kind!
Though, I can accept "chewing-gum switchblade" here because "ガム" (gamu) can also mean that kind of gum or the gum material of rubber.
> Press 5th statement, present Alita, present chart or sandals
Ms. Tiala!
You testified that you had no connection to the victim!
And I don't. Now.
"Now"...?
I quit half a year ago, didn't I? So there's no connection.
Let me guess, you're the kind of guy...
コイビトのムカシのコト、ぜんぶ 聞かないと気がすまないタイプの、 ...who can't rest until he knows every last detail of his girlfriend's past.
Am I right?
Th-That's not true at all! Why, I...
I embrace the ones I love, past flaws and all, no matte--
<Objection!>
"There's no connection now" doesn't fly in a court of law.
Doesn't... fly?
(She probably feels right at home with the Kitakis!)
Fyi, the judge responded here because she called them all out, not just the defense.
And yep, here it is again: "キモっ玉". So, a Sherman-tank mom and a tough-nut fiancée; no wonder she fits right in. (I still think "bee trove" is more apt, though.)
> Present more evidence to tie her in but present wrongly
Well, I suppose I could see--
<Objection!>
This trail you think you have found, it doesn't lead to the truth.
Nor to a long career in the legal profession, ja?
Gee, thanks.
Perhaps you will allow me to do the honors?
Hmm... Why not? It might be nice for a change.
Let’s Rock! Most excellent... Let's rock!
<Apollo> (なんだか‥‥ いつもの何倍もクヤシイ) (I'll take the usual penalty next time, thanks.)
Very well, Mr. Justice. Try again.
Look, guys, the JP script does have English letters and it has them for a good reason. Kudos to the loc team for that most excellent reference too.
> 2nd Witness Testimony, present medical chart at 4th statement, Perceive at new (6th) statement, present wrong evidence about the "threat"
...Because of what?
The eyes of a hawk... and the brain of a toad.
(Ribbit! I mean, ack! I can't lose this now!)
(C'mon toad brain, one more try!)
Originally, the metaphor was "brain full of cobwebs". So Odoroki tries dusting his attic.
> Press newer (7th) statement
We already know you're lying about having no reason!
I know you know! Don't look at me like that!
Like I'm some two-bit washed up good-for-nothing...
You scared me!
...I concur.
Even I am rarely treated to such a... hot gaze.
(Maybe I need to do some face training, too...)
"Hot gaze"... Yeah, sounds about right.
Last line was simply: "(...I guess I made quite the face at her.)"
> Present bullet in safe
So she planned to marry him just to get her hands on this fortune?
<Objection!>
<Wocky> イイカゲンなコトを 言い散らかしやがってェ‥‥ You keep talking trash about my Alita...
...and I'll sue you, lawyer-man!
...Huh? Me!?
You said...

Um, I think you mean "accuse"...!
Same difference! Well you can't have her! She's mine!
It was "kokuhaku" (confess, usu. love to someone) vs "kokuhatsu" (accuse).

Wake up and smell reality!

Hey, I wasn't getting out of this clean, anyway.
I think I'd prefer if Klavier here used a sound-based metaphor given how his entire character design is based on music. In the JP, he also used a sound metaphor: "It seems... we now hear your true voice, young lady."
Granted, "honne" also just means "true nature", but I like the hidden pun there.
> 3rd Witness Testimony, press 5th statement, point out "another place", point anywhere within the area of attention (double penalty)
This is where the killer shot from!
But then the killer couldn't have shot his right temple.
So young, and already senile. How unfortunate...
I'll have you know I'm not senile!

<Apollo> (‥‥ズルいや) (...No fair.)
You seem intent on digging your own grave. Here, have a shovel and try again.
Odoroki suddenly dropping in Kansai accent out of the blue caught me off-guard. (It's his last line here.) Man was so devastated by that double penalty he got sent out west.
10/21/20 edit: Whoops, my bad. That wasn’t Kansai accent and wouldn’t have made sense if it was. He’s just sighing to himself, really, and I mistook that last ‘ya’ as a copula.
> Point to noodle stand, present slippers & bowls

The witness had both a motive and an opportunity to kill Dr. Meraktis.
More fairy tales! This whole trial is a fairy tale!
Then please, pull us back down to reality, Ms. Tiala.
I'm giving you one last chance to explain yourself.
Her last line here: "An absurd 'turnabout' like that... wouldn't even be seen in fairy tales!"
> 4th Witness Testimony, Perceive at 5th statement, point wrongly
...Gotcha, Ms. Tiala!!!

<Apollo> (‥‥どうやら、 ややハズしたみたいだな) (...Hmm. Maybe I spotted the wrong spot.)
Originally, she suggested "Cockroach", which iirc is a playground game with a mix of "Hide'n'Seek" and "Tag". For some reason, I'm struggling to find a source online for this, but I swear I remember looking it up before...
10/21/20 edit: Welp, I guess I was overthinking it. She just asks him if he spotted something icky like a cockroach.
> Point correctly, present lamp
Very well! This finishes the cross-examination of this...

More glaring than your forehead.
No... Nooooooooooo!
The first time I played this part, I found it a lot funnier than I should have because I thought Apollo was screaming about how his forehead was so "glaring".
That's it. I just wanted to share. The JP lines are just the usual "With that contradiction gone, your conjecture won't stand... Odeko-kun!"
> Select "He couldn't use the car", present Magic Panties

My motorcycle won't start. A clogged exhaust pipe...
Too bad! It looks like such a nice bike, too.

<Alita> エンジンが‥‥かからない‥‥ My, how interesting.
"My, how interesting", indeed. It sounds so out of place that I wonder if this was supposed to be a temporary line that they decided to keep in the final draft. For reference, it was just "The engine... was clogged...!?"

It's also among the things you can see in the credits (exclusive to the JP version, anyway) when we see this happy family again.

Oh, that's right! We have to go someplace first!

Oh, and after that, you can come see my show!
With a special appearance by the Amazing Mr. Hat!
<Mr. Oh, it's special alright!
それ‥‥ Please... anything but him.
Originally the gentleman said: "It is going to be a rare sight, indeed."

Next up, the most infamous episode of this game for its unintentional earworm... Though honestly, I never really found it all that bad. That said, thank goodness SoJ had a skip button for certain scenes, even if I didn’t mind watching them over and over anyway.

Also shit dude u right but also how dare you EXPOSE me like that smh
You’re gettin’ some Clay, too, as a treat uvu

7:09 AM >> CLAY >> Hey AJ, you don’t have classes tomorrow, yeah?
7:15 AM >> APOLLO >> Yeah, after today I don’t have class til Monday
7:15 AM >> APOLLO >> Why do you ask?
7:17 AM >> CLAY >> Don’t worry about it ;)
7:18 AM >> APOLLO >> Well NOW I’m worried.
Not for the first time that day, Clay finds himself checking his phone and silently snickering to himself. Twelve hours later, he finds himself trotting up familiar stairs to the second floor, his arms full of a colorful assortment of supplies.
Once he gets to the door, it takes some shuffling and struggling-- really, it’s a miracle that he manages to slide the key out from underneath the half-wilted potted plant near the guardrail-- but he finally succeeds in unlocking the apartment door.
The apartment is painted with bold streaks of red-orange light streaming in through the window, making the rather modest living space seem far more impressive than it actually is.
“Ohhhh honey, I’m hooooome!” Clay shouts, brushing past the shoddy sofa he’d wheedled out of a family member for gifting purposes (“AJ, you know you’ve gotta have some furniture, right?”) and further past a pile of dirty laundry, before popping his head into a small room.
On the right, a futon he’s slept on at least a thousand times by now. It’s practically calling his name.
On the left, a desk, cluttered with packages of crackers and empty instant ramen cups, along with a few messy piles of homework. But most importantly, the desk is occupied by his target: one Apollo Justice, who has turned his head to peer over his shoulder at Clay with bloodshot, bewildered eyes.
“C-Clay?”
Clay, in turn, leans against the doorframe, a shit-eating grin spread across his face.
“Ladies, gentlemen, and AJ, we interrupt tonight’s boring law school cram sesh to instead bring you...”
He shakes one of the bags. “An assortment of sour candy and extra-butter popcorn,” before giving another bag a lighter shake, “...along with a week’s worth of stew from Aunt Becky-- she insisted-- and extra rolls of change for laundry. Also, I brought movies. Your pick on the first one, but I call dibs on the next.”
Apollo is on his feet in an instant, a disbelieving laugh escaping his lips even as he yanks Clay into a bear hug.
“What-- I-- dude, aren’t you supposed to be in astronaut training camp or something?!”
The coy grin on Clay’s face only grows wider. “Got the week off ‘n’ figured I’d drop by, see how my favorite li’l lawyer-in-training is doing!”
Apollo laughs even harder, the delighted noise somewhat muffled even as he buries his face in Clay’s jacket. “You’re fucking ridiculous.”
“You’re so absolutely welcome,” Clay teases. “Sooo, what say we get movie night started?”
He keeps one arm squeezed tightly around Apollo’s back, lifting the other to waggle a handful of DVD cases. “I brought Wrath of Kha-aaaaannn...~”
Apollo pulls back to look up at Clay, his eyes practically sparkling with delight.
“Alright, alright. I guess you can stay over,” Apollo teases back, giving Clay one last squeeze before letting go. “I missed you, y’big nerd.”
Clay hums, dropping his assortment onto Apollo’s bed. Even as he reaches over and ruffles Apollo’s hair (earning an indignant squawk, much to his delight), something somber briefly flickers through his gaze. Perhaps because it’s been so long since the last time they’d hung out, or perhaps because of just how disheveled Apollo looks.
(Has he even made any other friends at all since we graduated junior high...?)
He shakes it off in favor of bumping into Apollo, and altogether making himself a lovable nuisance, while the other attempts to clear some space for them both to settle in for the night.
“Yeah, I missed you too, AJ.”

Happy (Belated) Birthday to Sato!
Apollo sat on the couch. Another day, another lazy wait. Thumping could be heard from upstairs. Rushing down was his wife. “C’mon Apollo it’s time!” “Already?” “Yeah! Today could be the day we break through what’s keeping us here under the courthouse.” “You say that, but we’ve been here for what feels like centuries…” Shizuka looked at him annoyed as he wasn't as full of energy as he once was ever since the whole law team among everyone who works at this place was forced underground. “Well unlike you I still believe that we can get back out there. Maybe even you’ll figure it out.” “Nah, I couldn’t do that Justice.” They both laughed off the stupid joke and headed out the door.
“You know, all we need to do is figure out who put us here and why. I think from there we can take down that weird barrier.” Sato confidently stated her fist in the air. “Well I usually just attack things head on without thinking, never forget your own case. I just had to bluff through the end there.” “Wright taught you well.” “Yeah, Wonder what ever happened to him and Trucy?” They talked on and on before reaching a wooden station. “Alright I need to head the other way. Be safe okay Bunny.” Shizuka told the horn headed attorney usetobe, as they gave each other a kiss before she moved to the other side.
Apollo Sat there all day thinking to himself. How did this happen? Why would they be put in this situation? And the kids? They were never put down here so where are they? All these thoughts rushed his head before he realized. “Oh...It’s today isn’t it?” He got up from his post and walked back to their house. He went into his room and pulled out a special unfinished present. “If the Wrights were still here I’m sure they would have helped me finish.” He thought to himself before he continued his work. Unfortunately he worked so hard that he had fallen asleep.
Shizuka had walked back to Apollo’s post and found that he wasn’t there. She wasn’t just mad she was pissed. This isn’t the first time Apollo had gone off his post. She ranted to herself quietly as she stomped each foot to the places she knew that he liked to go too. Everyone around knew that one half of this power couple messed up, while the other was on their way to get to their just desserts. Looking around she could tell Apollo had been at his places however not there himself. The walking undead girl was now looking more and more alive with anger before she ran home and bursted into Apollo's room, where she found him asleep at his desk and something else…
Looking onto the desk where Apollo was face down dead asleep, was two things. A note, and what looked like figures made of paper mache. Looking at the Paper mache, most of it was completed. It was a finished Shizuka, an unfinished Apollo and their children who not only were completed but had unfinished versions of them as adults. How Apollo was able to keep this hidden is a mystery but she looked over to the note which too was mostly complete.
“Shizzy
It took awhile to get this done, but I finally did it! I started a few years after we were forced down here. I know how worried you’ve been about the kids since then, so I made this to give you something to think about. I do think they’re still out there so I made up some story on where they’re at right now! It’s not the first time I forged something after all. Still you fight to get everyone out it’s inspiring so take this as a thank you, birthday present mix from me. Love Apo” Shizuka looked over to the sleeping horn headed husband of hers before she lifted him up and put him in his bed covering him and gave him another kiss. (( @twilightgirle I know it’s late! I had a hard time choosing what I should do for a story so have this undertale-like inspiered story of Apollo Sans and Sato Papyrus! I’ll try to make it on time next time!))
#Happy Birthday to Silent Justice as well pretty much!#Although it's not the same day I just like celebrating it on the same day#Twilightgirle#Seriously though big apology for not making it on the 31st!

Sorry to curse you but... au where Kristoph wasn't a complete fucknugget?
Too OOC.
-
Honestly that would set off such a chain of events that like….can you imagine how that could actually go. I’m not sure if Phoenix could manage to win Zak’s case anyway, because he was pretty much about to lose when he presented the diary page, so Zak would probably still disappear, so Phoenix might still adopt Trucy, which is the most important thing so as long as we still have that it’s all okay and I can accept it.
Kristoph shows up at Phoenix’s office trying to figure out how to say “I initially offered to take Zak Gramarye’s case and then I saw what happened to you and I’m kind of glad I didn’t get to defend him but how are you doing with your client disappearing off the stand and my little brother kicking your ass” without sounding like a megadouche, and he doesn’t manage to say any of that because Trucy is the one that opens the door and Kristoph is like…………..he obviously recognizes this kid’s outfit and he’s just like “Is….is Phoenix Wright here?”
“DADDY!” Trucy yells back into the office. “SOME GUY IS HERE FOR YOU.”
Kristoph opens his mouth, closes it, and opens it again. “Your….dad?”
“Hello?” Phoenix appears out of the back room, squinting in confusion at Kristoph, like he recognizes something of his face in his little brother, even past the sunglasses and whatever the hell Klavier is wearing on any given day.
“Er, hi. Kristoph Gavin.” He offers a hand. Phoenix shakes it tentatively. “Is - is that Zak Gramarye’s daughter?”
“Yeah.” Phoenix turns and watches her careening back across the office with some colorful magic-prop flags. “Since he disappeared, I wondered what had happened to her, and I couldn’t find any other family that she has, so I offered to take her in and she kind of… rolled with it pretty easily.”
Operation: offer condolences to Wright on Zak Gramarye being a shady fucker without sounding like a megadouche takes a hard turn and crashes and burns. “Well, now I’m glad that I wasn’t the one defending him, if that would mean adopting a child at the end of it.”
Phoenix raises his eyebrows. Kristoph wonders why his brother got all the “not awkward at social interaction” genes in the family. “I mean, he dismissed me because I lost a game of poker to him, which seems - unhinged. I imagine you won, then?” Phoenix nods, still giving him a Look. “I spent enough time raising my little brother and I don’t know how that actually turned out and I would be afraid to screw up another child.”
Phoenix’s eyebrows are still raised. “He seems like a bright kid,” he says. “Klavier, I mean. Though the whole Eurotrash vibe and the sunglasses indoors is a little much.” They both watch Trucy, wearing a cape and a top hat on a completely normal Tuesday. “But I guess seventeen-year-olds are all chaotic gremlins anyway.”
Now it’s Kristoph’s turn to raise his eyebrows. Klavier’s chaotic, sure, but gremlin is not a word he’d like to hear about his brother. Certainly it isn’t accurate. “You wouldn’t be speaking from sibling experience, would you, by chance?” he asks.
If Phoenix gets the message he doesn’t show it. “Yeah. Little sister. She’s nineteen now, still not calmed down.”
“I’ll look forward to that too,” Kristoph says dryly.
When he leaves it’s clear that Phoenix still doesn’t understand why he dropped by at all, and Kristoph honestly isn’t really either, but he still feels like he needed to do it. Like it’s his responsibility that someone else was burdened with Zak Gramarye, which is ridiculous, but still some sort of feeling he’s having, though it’s finally quieting now. Put his conscience to rest on this one, that’s what he wanted.
-
They aren’t friends, exactly, not for a while, but they have friendly chats at the courthouse when they run into each other. Kristoph asks about Trucy; Phoenix asks about Klavier, whose silly little garage band career has rocketed up into something huge and Kristoph doesn’t know what to do with the fact that his little brother is famous and gallivanting around the country and the world. “I’m sure I’ll end up feeling like that with Trucy, someday,” Phoenix says. “She’s already got the trajectory for her entertainment-industry career figured out.”
Kristoph’s office grows; Phoenix’s remains the same little hole-in-the-wall. Sometimes Phoenix drops by, which Kristoph is convinced has something to do with his dog and not him, or with the fact that Kristoph has actually read legal texts before in his life and Phoenix discovered that instead of having to read them himself he can just come ask–
About seven years after they first met, Phoenix swings by one morning, Trucy in tow, oddly enough. “Hello, Ms Wright,” Kristoph says, and she giggles. “What brings you here today?”
She shrugs. “Daddy asked me if I wanted to come say hi, so I am!”
Kristoph looks at Phoenix. Phoenix shrugs. Trucy is examining the bookshelves. “Wow, Mr Gavin, you have a lot of legal books! Have you actually read them?”
Phoenix winces. Kristoph has a jab at the ready when his office door opens again. “Hey, Mr Gavin? I have the files you wanted–” Apollo stops dead. “Oh, h-hi, Mr Wright.” He scurries past and drops the files on Kristoph’s desk. Phoenix is giving Apollo a Look, one of intense and needless scrutiny, and he doesn’t say anything, not even hi back, today.
“Hello!” Trucy, however, friendly as ever, seizes the awkward silence and makes it her own. “Hi! I’m Trucy Wright! Who are you?”
Apollo has the look of a man who did not expect to be assailed by a teenage magician in his workplace today. “Uh…. hi. Apollo Justice.”
He beats a hasty retreat but Trucy follows him, bouncing. “Have you passed the Bar yet? What are you working on? I–”
Kristoph is about to snap at her to come back in here and stop harassing his employees, but Phoenix gives Kristoph another Look and then Kristoph is just waiting for Trucy to shut the door behind her so that he can ask, “What the hell are you giving me that look for, Wright? What are you playing at today?”
“Just let her,” Phoenix says. He’s still staring at the door that she and Apollo left through.
“Unlike your office, mine has consistent cases, and I would really prefer that–”
“Gavin,” Phoenix interrupts, very seriously.
“Yes?” Kristoph asks bitterly. “You’re plotting something - you’re hiding something.”
“Who, me?” Phoenix’s feigned innocence doesn’t really work. “Of course not.”
“If you’ve realized you want a junior lawyer to do your grunt work and are testing all of mine to see which your daughter likes best and attempt to poach that one from me–”
“That’s not what I’m doing,” Phoenix says, but his vacant, glassy-eyed gaze returns to the door.

This is gonna be a long post, and since tumblr sucks and won't let me put a read more, you have my condolences
Ah yes, this is a long time coming. Not a long time coming in the sense that I will murder the person who murdered my past life's fiancee, no, we're not talking about Fallout today. Today, friends, family, and assorted acquaintances, we're talking about the Random Encounters Phoenix Wright the Musical... musical.
Now why, you may be asking, am I doing this? Why in the world am I writing such a long, unneeded essay on a musical that's like, 5 years old? Well, dear reader, that's a simple question, with a simple answer. And that is that I really just want the person who played Edgeworth to be recognized. What a sweetheart. Superb singing, and the bloopers are great. That's it. That's why. I really want people to watch it after they read this, with flaws in mind, and just enjoy the talents that went into it. So, let us begin.
So if you aren't super fans of Random Encounters (RE for short), they make musicals for games. Very good ones in fact. I really enjoyed "Finding Mister Midnight" And all of the undertale ones. And Phoenix Wright, obviously. I haven't watched their recent stuff (I don't really watch the musicals of games I don't already know or like, aside from Phoenix Wright (yes the musical got me into Phoenix Wright)) but I just might see what they've done because I always enjoy the bloopers and such.
Now
Phoenix Wright the Musical (no relation to Turnabout Musical)
What a superb, fantastic, blessing that is absolute garbage (in the nicest way possible). Like literally, let's dive into this
Flaws
Larry is the victim. God I wish he would die, but he won't. Cry about spoilers all you want, this musical is 30 mins, Larry isn't actually dead.
"My Best friend of several years is dead? Welp... That sucks"
Edgeworth openly admits he's "an amenable prosecutor", which he would never give Phoenix the satisfaction of knowing if it were true. I get that that's KiNdA how miles is, but he's still a stubborn bastard at the bench
Maya in the games does have quips and jokes, but honestly the judge would have threatened contempt of court if she kept talking like she did in the musical
Gumshoe isn't a very aggressively nice and loud person in the musical, it's more like a younger version of him I suppose
I can't tell what ages they are supposed to be. Say it's after Dual Destinies, the last game that came out before this musical, Phoenix just got his badge back and has a daughter... Except no because his suit is more the one before Apollo Justice and they never mention trucy. Aight, Trials and Tribulations era. But wait, didn't Edgeworth already say in that game "this is my first and last trial as a defense attorney "? No way he'd do it again so close. Plus, you know, other things (such as time and place) that will make this point too long.
Speaking of Defense attorney Edgeworth, they really just... Let that slide didn't they... Game Miles did all that work just for it to turn out that he didn't even need to.
Larry is alive
"When the night guards found the body," They apparently didn't bother to check if it was a real person oh, I dunno a blue freaking badger-
Who... Let "Doctor Hotti" Look at the body for the autopsy. It's funny but... How did this happen. Franziska shoulda whipped him
I understand that this musical is suppose to be welcoming to newcomers. But... "Everybody got trauma" Is something people should know! Don't mention DL-6, or Gant, Manfred, Morgan, Kristoph, Yanni Yogi. That's not what I mean... Just... Man, Edgeworth is a mess! Phoenix is a mess! Let them be a mess!
Maya was allowed to assist in the investigation, when she's the suspect... Ok?
And many more...
Now you're waiting for me to defend it and tell you it's strengths. But unfortunately... That is exactly what I'm gonna do!
Strengths
Every actor is a great singer. A special shoutout to Edgeworth and Franziska's actors 👏🏻👏🏻
The story was easy to follow and engaging enough to make me watch an entire play through of all the games (specifically I watched Nicob)
Almost every actor was perfect for their role and really sold it, may I once again point out miles and franziska, as well as Payne this time? Everyone did a lovely job
The twist was something that had never been done in aa to my knowledge. Though it might have been funny if Rise from the Ashes ended like that instead.
I criticized Miles being a defense attorney for an hour but I enjoyed miles and Maya interacting. Like yes miles, protect your basically daughter.
I can pinpoint the exact moment I became a narumistu shipper to the end of the musical, where Edgeworth and Phoenix were discussing the case, and Edgeworth said "Wright, a defense attorney does not sleep in his office". This line isn't romantic, but I remember 13 year old me whispering "what a good boyfriend"
Larry is likeable. You think I'm joking? I had high Expectations for Larry after watching this musical. Game 1 delivered, the rest did not. He is actually a good character in this musical.
I rewatched this musical for this post, but I didn't even need to, I could quote this musical like the back of my hand. It doesn't help that the lines are so quotable. "better the devil you know, Wright" And "it's half past shut your face and leave me alone! ...Pacific daylight time" Are personal favourites.
Grape juice
They had gumshoe. I miss you gumshoe. Come back to the newer games
The music is a blessing. "Wright is Wrong" And "The Loser Song" Are personal favourites, but I could jam to any of them (even oldbags sleazy jazz number)
And many more!
Look, it's not perfect. It's not anywhere close, especially if you are a fan of ace attorney. But it's a darn good watch if you have half an hour to kill, or just wanna hear some damn good singing.
Also, listen, John I think your name is? Person who played Edgeworth. Honestly pls sing more man, or audition for an Edgeworth part of a dub, pls man I'm begging you you're amazing.

Klavquill 1-8
The more I write, the more difficult it’s become to make dialogues. In Japanese edition Klavier was in the U.S. to study and he got the prosecutor’s badge in there, but he uses few English words in dialogues (the only phrase I remember is “Let’s rock!”, maybe it is replaced with “Achtung, baby!”). I might have to put in more German words but I don’t know German language at all and it’s quite difficult to write their dialogues in English (also in Japanese...)
By the way seeing first sunrise is popular in Japan, it feels special but it’s cold outside in winter, there are fewer people who go to see it actually than first visit. Though it feels more special if you go to see it actually with someone special.
*************************************
Athena gets off the car in front of a rather old apartment. It is located so much far from the train station but she doesn’t mind the distance, she rather enjoy it for the physical training.
“Have a good night! Apollo, take care of yourself, please come back again soon!”
She goes actively, it’s bliss for Simon that Athena is fine and happy.
The large-sized car starts going again with the engine sound. It takes some time to drive to the suburb airport even through the highways.
The seat is warm and shaking comfortably, a mysterious female voice song is playing. Simon’s conscience is just like floating and he realizes he has never felt relaxed in these days when he rides in a car. A little alcohol from the bottled Sake helps him to fall half-asleep though he can hear Apollo’s controlled voice.
“Don’t you play your music?”
“You don’t like it, I think”
Gavin replies calmly.
“This is Lamiroir’s new album, have you listened?”
“Oh, I didn’t know it was released”
“I’m not sure if it’s available in Khura’in, you can take this. I’ve already done the digitalization”
“......Thank you”
Simon doesn’t know “Lamiroir” but Apollo seems to know the musician(Simon assumes).
“......And, thank you for giving me a ride”
“Don’t worry, It was me who just wanted to stay with you”
It’s been ages, Gavin says. He and Apollo Justice have an old score to settle in a way though they seem to have built a kind of friendship.
“Well......as long as you can say”
Apollo’s voice is lowered.
“I’d like to know how the phantom case is going”
Simon is given a start like being grabbed his heart.
“I’ve heard that the trial won’t be held in Japan though I don’t know where. In the Hague?”
“......I don’t think ICC deals with it”
Gavin replies that he doesn’t know well quietly.
“You know prosecutor Von Karma takes that case”
“......Yeah”
“Then, I can say nothing more. It is a top secret and actually I don’t know about it”
“So does prosecutor Blackquill?”
“I don’t know but......should we ask?”
Simon’s heart gets pounding.
“Well......no, he doesn’t know or he can’t say about it, I suppose. I’m not even a member of the bereaved family”
Apollo is right, Simon wants to know for anything. Apollo exudes his chagrin. How the unreasonable loss of his bestfriend suffer him? Gavin’s voice sounds gentle but a teasing tone appears.
“By the way, do you think he’s sleeping?”
“Oh is he awake!?”
Apollo looks back in a hurry and Simon pretends to be asleep. He doesn’t care Apollo’s bracelet notices.
Though it might be cheat, he can’t talk about the phantom case to Apollo right now. If he could have believed Athena and the whole judicial system enough in the UR-1 case, the phantom might have been arrested at that time and Clay Terran ——and Bobby Fulbright—— might be alive now. One year ago, the world he had believed collapsed and his self-consciousness could just let the revealed truths and the radical change of the environment go past, but he has started suffering from the regret and the guilty consciousness after some time. He shouldn’t get stuck in there but he doesn’t know what to do exactly. He decided not to hide the truth never again but it should have been a matter of course for prosecutors. He feels himself not to be qualified to be a prosecutor in a way.
Luckily, Apollo and Gavin continue talking without noticing what Simon feels.
“If I had known you went abroad, I should have seen you more, even if a little bit forcefully”
“I think you tried hard enough, Trucy said that she felt lonely as you didn’t come often like before since last summer”
“...... I was just a little bit busy”
It was true, the prosecutor’s office has been a shortage of prosecutors so he and Simon are always very busy. Though it hadn’t changed around Apollo’s leave.
“......I certainly feel it is not as easy as before to go to the office without you”
“There are only girls and Mr. Wright. But I think you are good at treating girls”
“I don’t know, Fraulein detective still hates me”
It reminds Simon of the event a few days ago. She meant not to insult Gavin seriously but he couldn’t keep silence.
“Ema often complains about Nahyuta in Khura’in”
“He likes her so much, doesn’t he? I’ve heard that she is there today, it’s ideal for her to be able to improve her scientific skill as much as she wants”
“I saw her for a short time today in Khura’in, I didn’t tell her that Nahyuta said he planned to have her come to the new year ceremony at the top of Mt. Poni-poni”
Apollo sounds sympathetically.
“Oh, I assume she’s on the top of the mountain right now”
Gavin chuckles, he might be imagining Ema astonished.
“By the way, con priests get married?”
“Yeah, they can......what, Ema and Nahyuta? Hmmm......”
Apollo seems to be sunk in thought but he shakes his head like he shakes it off. He might not want to imagine his brother’s love life.
“By the way, why is Blackquill coming with us? He doesn’t look like a type who wants to say goodbye at the airport”
“He is going to come to my place and stay”
“Really!? You......you are actually close”
“I’m not sure we are close, but, have you heard of the event a while ago?”
“Y-Yeah”
The members seemed to tell him as Simon thought. There is nothing to worry when Apollo knows it but it’s a little embarrassing.
“Well...... I’m sorry”
“What?”
Gavin’s voice is always calm.
“I said...... I hate your music”
“Oh that’s it? No worries, some people don’t like my music, it’s quite natural. I don’t like being lied about it”
“Though...... I might be able to choose a manner of speaking that hurt you less”
You have been always kind to us like this.
Apollo’s voice lowers. He is always kind, to everyone, anytime——
“Why do you say such a thing suddenly, are you scared of Prosecutor Blackquill?”
Gavin laughs teasingly.
“No, it’s not that”
I......just a thought, Apollo says, his voice is quite but clear.
“Hmm, it’s a little boring, you’ve grown up Herr Forehead?”
He says that like nothing and laughs.
Though, he cried certainly when Simon protected him.
“I’m glad that you have a friend now”
“You’ve thought I’m so lonely?”
Of course Gavin has so many friends. He and Simon rarely join the same gatherings because of the pressure of business and Gavin’s estrangement from the WAA as Apollo said, but he talks to Simon casually when they happen to meet in the prosecutor’s office in spite of Simon’s intimidating appearance and they have exchanged phone numbers before Simon knew by Gavin’s high social skill. They must be all usual things to Gavin, even inviting Simon to his house. He can’t take it as a big deal.
Although, why is it painful to him that Gavin is kind to everyone?
The airport is crowded but it gets rather empty way past the midnight. Maybe because there are few flights that depart around the same time as the one to Khura’in.
They have some time before Apollo heads to the departure gate but they can’t find affordable coffee shop or something, they sit on a bench with cans of coffee in their hands.
“How’s your hometown?”
“Well......I think nothing has been changed as for the nature and food......or something. I’m too busy to go around”
“I’m happy to hear your business is going well.
Though I think you’re working so hard”
“Ah......I’m sorry not to keep in touch”
“It’s okay with me but contact the girls more often, they looked so happy today”
“......I see. Then, I got to go”
“Take care”
After seeing Apollo off, Simon and Gavin are just two of them. Simon tries to ask him a kind of question.
“That’s unbelievable to have refrained from drinking, what did you do if Justice-dono had rejected your suggestion?”
Gavin smiles brightly after a few blinking.
“Then, I was planning to go to see the first sunrise with you”
Simon doesn’t feel bad about his selfish decision. Has he foreseen that Simon would think so?
“To be honest, I haven’t seen it properly. I searched some places though”
Gavin leads Simon to the large glass window side.
“We can see it from here”
The clouds is taking on the glow of the sunrise.
“Beautiful”
Gavin admires the sunrise. Several golden hair are sticking out of his beanie.
(To see the first sunrise together!)
(Like having him all to yourself)
Simon sounds Trucy again. He should look at the sunrise, not Gavin, Simon tells himself.
******************************************

Songs on the way
Already Gone
Wednesday, 22 December 2027
Everything was a mess. It had been two days since Blackquill’s trial and the press was still buzzing around everywhere around the prosecution’s office. Edgeworth did his best to keep them away from the other staff, but it was a hopeless task. They tried to get a statement out of anybody involved in the case, and since they could not get hold on anybody on the defence side, nor the Blackquill siblings, they tried to get at least a statement from the prosecution.
Luckily enough I was not involved in this mess for once. It has been a horrible last year and I had taken some time off since … his trial and felt pretty okay with the press’ presence at the time. At least when I managed to get into my office.
And today they had apparently decided that they wanted to make it especially hard for us to get in, since it was almost impossible to get into the prosecutor’s car park and some of them actually had the nerve demanding me to get the chief prosecutor. I did not say a word, left them behind and went up into my office. There was a lot of paper work to do and probably a lot more to come.
“Prosecutor Gavin?”
I jumped in my chair but immediately composed myself as I realized that the chief stood in my door frame.
With a winning smile I answered: “Yes, sir? Is there something you want me to do?”
He eyed me up and huffed as he crossed his arms in front of his chest.
“I’d like to ask you to take a break. It is two PM and I am positive you haven’t eaten yet”, Edgeworth said disapprovingly.
I gaped at him and wanted to disagree. But before I could do so I stopped myself and nodded. His eyes were tired and the wrinkles on his forehead deeper than usual. The press must have been stressing him out and he probably had a hard time convincing the council to employ Blackquill again.
Really, I did not envy him for his position and I was grateful what he did for the office. He tried to bring the truth back into the legal system and I was happy to work for him. It only made sense to me to give in for once.
The man disappeared then, and I stood up and stretched a bit. I would go into the break room and get myself something out of the vending machine or something, I decided and took my phone and my purse with me. I was walking down the hall checking my social media as I got a call.
My heart fluttered in disbelieve and froze on the spot. It could not be…
Herr Forehead…
Why of all times would he choose to call me now?
For a second anxiety run through my veins and I thought about ignoring the call. But Herr Forehead would not call me if it was something insignificant. Even less during my worktime. This was something important and I pushed accept.
“Hello Herr Forehead! What can I do for you?”
For some seconds the line remained silent and I was afraid he had already hung up.
“Ehm – he coughed huskily – hi Prosecutor Gavin. I – um – Sorry to call you during work. I wanted to ask you for a favour.”
His hesitation threw me off. This was not something he did normally, and it made me nervous. Had something even worse happened? Dear god, what else had come for this poor guy?
“Please do. I’d love to help, if it lies in my possibilities.”
“Okay. It’s something personal, though.”
“… Ja? What would that be?”
I heard a long, exhausted sigh.
“Does your invitation for a drink still stand?”
…
“I could need someone to talk, Gavin. I can’t burden anyone in the agency and my best friend is dead now. I need to get some stuff out of the system even though I know it’s egoistical of me to ask you this.”
“I - I – It’s not egoistical, not after everything that happened to you in the past few days. But – why me? I – we – we haven’t talked in a long time and I cannot be as close to you as Frau Gramarye or Herr Wright are and –“
“No, maybe not. But I trust you more than them. And the Wright’s are still pretty shaken up because of the kidnapping thingy. It took her harder than she pretended at first. Also, there’s something I don’t want them to know but – well – I get when you’re too busy. It must be hell in the prosecutor’s office right now. I just wanted to ask –“
“I’ll be done at six. Where shall I pick you up?”
“Eh, I live near the agency, so you could pick me up there? Maybe not with your hog?”
I laughed lightly. “I sure can do that. I guess you would prefer it if we’d go to a place where we had some privacy, korrekt?”
“Yeah. That would be good.”
“Very well. Do you like Indian food? I know a very good place where we should not be bothered at all. Would that be alright?”
“Perfect. It sounds perfect, Gavin”, he said with a clearly relieved voice. I almost saw him running his hand down his face and giving me a grateful look.
“That pleases me to hear. Until later!”, I laugh and put my silly feelings aside.
Before I could hang up he suddenly said: “Thank you. You do not know what this means to me.”
The words died in my throat and Apollo hung up. I was sweating uncontrollably. This man was the death of me. Why on earth did I have to fall for him exactly?
I was on my way to the agency. A playlist was running through the speakers in my car, but I did not really listen. Music had failed to bring me joy. It did not work anymore. Not since the trial. Nothing really worked since it happened. Apparently, that was how it was for now.
Surprised I noticed the moon. The sun was still up but apparently our lovely guardian of the night had decided to come out early. I felt something soothing vibrating from it and always glanced back up to it.
A piano began to play. It sounded like raindrops.
Remember all the things we wanted Now all the memories they're haunted We were always meant to say goodbye Even with our face held high It never would have worked out right We were never meant for do or die
I didn't want us to burn out, I I didn't come here to hurt you, now I can't stop
I want you to know It doesn't matter Where we take this road But someone's gotta go And I want you to know You couldn't have loved me better But I want you to move on So I'm already gone
Looking at you makes it harder But I know that you'll find another Doesn't always make you want to cry It started with the perfect kiss then We could feel the poison set in Perfect couldn't keep this love alive
Know that I love you so I love you enough to let you go
… Already Gone, the cover by Sleeping At Last. I had heard it as a teen once or twice, but it had never quite touched me like this…
I was probably just overly emotional. Usually neither the moon nor a sad break up song cover would make me this sentimental. But usually I also did not have a “date” with Apollo Justice, so I kind of knew why I felt like this.
Finally, I saw the Agency and in front of it the lawyer in a red hoodie. I pulled over and he entered immediately. He said “hi” hastily and shot me a tired smile.
Quickly I returned the smile and drove off. I had turned down the music and now heard the man breathing regularly. He looked out the window and watched the other cars moving along. When we held at a flash light, he looked up to the sky. I glanced over to him and saw the moon’s light reflected in his grand brown eyes. The colour was dazzling.
I gulped and asked him how Frau Cykes was holding up. He answered me casually that she was doing pretty fine, as far as he knew. He had not seen her today and only shortly yesterday, since she was preoccupied with helping Herr Blackquill finding a new place to live.
We chattered a bit about the two and I told him I was quite curious how it would turn out to work with him. He laughed at it and said that it would be fine.
Before I could ask more I realized that we were almost there and drove into the parking lot of the restaurant. We got off the car and I walked him into the building. It was a pretty classy (but not to classy, I did not want Apollo to feel out of place) place with a lot of colourful décor and we got a table next to a window in the corner of the room. A perfect place to talk without anybody listening.
We sat down, and I ordered us something to drink. He also let me choose our meal as he told me he had no problem with spicy food and that he liked Indian cuisine quite a lot. Then the conversation died down. He stared out of the window watching how the night came over the city and the lights started to get turned on.
The waiter brought our drinks, we thanked them and then Apollo exhaled deeply. He searched for my gaze and cracked a forlorn smile. I mimicked his expression sadly and waited for him to speak. There was no need to rush and he should have all the time he needed.
“You know”, he began and looked outside the window, “sometimes I think I should already be used to this. It sounds stupid, you don’t need to tell me, but I honestly think from time to time that I should have seen this coming. I’ve had enough experiences with murder, accidents and that jazz to know what could happen. And still… This… this really hurt more than I thought it could. I didn’t think that this would be possible…”
I did no longer hear the people talking around us. I only saw Apollo and the pain in his face, the brows knitted together in helplessness and his teeth gritted together forming a aching grin.
“He must have been an extraordinary friend to you”, I said and leaned forward. I folded my hands on the table and looked at him focused.
He turned at me. Next to the pain now a glint of curiosity and surprise shone in his eyes. Still he put them aside and took his opportunity to tell me more.
“He was. He really was. I’ve known him since middle school. After his mom died he was sent to the same orphanage as I and we grew to an unstoppable team. I haven’t had such a friend in a long time and he’s always been there. No matter what. He’s always been there. When people told me, I couldn’t go to law school, he sat down with me and helped me learn, while I helped him train for the astronaut program. When the orphanage did no longer look out for us, we got active ourselves and got an apartment on our own. When I had my first trial, when I lost my job, when I was tired of all this shit, he’s always been there. … And now he’s gone. Just woosh. Gone. It’s so surreal. Just a week ago we had talked about how great it would be when he’d be on the moon and now… Now he’s buried in the ground. I know that it will just go on, that my life will continue… But without him… it feels so… pointless, I guess? Dunno. It just sucks, I guess.”
I remained quiet. Half of the things he just told me I had not known about him before. Nothing about him being an orphan, nothing of the bullies, even though I suspected that one, nothing of all of this.
I felt the urge in my guts to take him in my arms, to never let him go again and protect him from all harms. But just one look at those fiery brown eyes and I remembered what a force of nature just was sitting in front of me. This man was a fighter and he did not to be protected. He could do that himself perfectly well.
What he did need was an open ear that did not judge and support. And somehow, I realized that I could give him just that.
“I can’t begin to imagine your pain. Losing someone like that… No, there’s no justification, no real explanation for such a tragedy. You must feel so lost without him”, I said trying not to sound too pitying.
Again, he shoots me that look. Now his smile was faded, and his shoulders slumped.
“Yeah… I really don’t know what to do… But you see – he wouldn’t want that. He’d want me to move on, enjoy my life and all that shit. We always were charging towards the future, just our goals in mind. There never was any use in crying over the past. But now I want to hold on to these memories. I need to remember all these things, because there is no more Clay, who could remember them for me. If I forget, the only thing of him that still existed in this world, would be gone as well.”
He breaks off and takes a drink. This was truly the most clueless I had him ever seen. And it terrified me. Apollo Justice should never – never – look like this. This was something I could not bear to see any longer.
So, I raised my voice to speak: “There is no need to decide between these two options, my dearest Herr Forehead. You certainly should go on with your life and try to make the best out of it, but there is no need for you to let go of your friend. Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean he isn’t here anymore. As you said yourself, his memories live on in your head, and you can share these. Like that your friend can live on in our hearts and can guide and accompany you on your way. His spirit will be with you no matter what, even though it’s not much. But maybe it’s more than one would expect. And maybe that would be enough…”
The man mustered me puzzledly. Maybe my advice was no good? Maybe I had somehow offended him? I bit my lip in distress and leaned back in my chair trying to distance myself from Apollo.
Yet when I did that he suddenly started to grin quite entertained and shook his head at my gesture. Something about his demeanour had softened, I could not put my finger on it quite yet.
“That’s the advice I get from a rock star? I did not expect such wisdom from a man who’s writing mostly niche justice related love songs”, he throws at my face with a teasing grin.
“Hallo? My fans loved that stuff and there lies a lot of thoughts in my lyrics, ja? Do not belittle my sense of poetry. It’s responsible for half of my success!”
“And the other half is there because of your silly good looks? I don’t know Prosecutor Gavin, but maybe you haven’t quite understood why your audience loves you so much.”
Did he just flirt with me? Oh my god, did he? Was that flirting?
“Anyway, it’s a pretty good advice. Clay would have liked it… You two probably would have hit it off right away. He always was someone, who loved that positive thinking stuff and he actually liked rock music quite a bit.”
“Really? Then maybe we would have got along… It’s a pity we can’t find that out anymore…”
“… Yeah… In a way you reminded me of him when we started seeing each other more often on the crime scenes… In good way, I mean.”
“How so?”, I asked and took a sip of my drink.
“Well, uhm… the way you portray yourself, all this casualness and the whole good guy vibe you give off, he had something similar. Just goofier, which made him a lot more entertaining to watch. Sorry. But still it was different… Like – He did not try to shine. He wasn’t eager to impress or something. He had more of a happy-go-lucky nature, even though he could be very persistent when it came to his goals and passions. You on the other hand… It’s not like you try to impress, it’s more like you want the people to believe you’re very laid back and relaxed all the time. Which is a big fat lie by the way. You have like zero chill, don’t even try to deny it, I’ve seen how you get when things don’t work out the way you want them to. Not that you’re controlling or boring. You’re just way more perfectionistic than Clay was and plan a lot more than he did. What’s actually a good thing. At least I like that. But in the core, you seem to be a pretty excitable guy. All the energy you give into your music and especially in prosecuting is astounding. You’re absolutely into this stuff and I admire the enthusiasm. And that’s definitely something you two share. Enthusiasm. A damn load of it.”
I had no idea how to respond to that. When exactly did he have the chance to figure me out? Before I could think longer about it our food came, and we stopped talking for some time. Eventually we started to discuss our meals and I came to realize that Apollo was able to eat really hot dishes, which surprised me. And then and when he threw some comments about Clay’s favourite meals in. Every time he smiled a nostalgic smile and it killed me seeing him like this.
We ended eating rather quickly and after Apollo declared that he really wasn’t too hungry anymore, I asked for the bill and we went out.
Neither of us really wanted to go home and we decided to go for a walk in the park nearby. We passed by a small pond and Apollo stopped. He looked up to the moon, who still was standing high in the sky.
“Clay was a very special man. One you could trust.”
He turned towards me and looked right into my eyes. Even though he had to look up I felt like I was standing below him.
“That’s why several people trusted him with their deepest secrets. And now they died with him. Again, these people have to carry their secrets’ burden on their own… Once… a child, a boy to be precise, told him something… about his past.”
He paused. He looked down on his feet. A wave of heat, almost rage, but too frustrated radiated from him. Then he gazed up again. Calmly locking his eyes with the moon.
“The boy had been born in the States. But his parents went away, to a country far away in Asia. A country with high mountains and strange religious rituals. It was beautiful, but a coup had been planned and the queen was killed as someone set the palace on fire. In that fire the boy’s father gave his life. He had been there because he had befriended with the king. His son had been with him and the mother was lost in the chaos. The boy never knew what happened to her… The king took the little baby boy and fled because he had been accused to have set the fire and was now wanted dead. So, he ran away now, with his and the late queen’s son and the baby boy. He raised them together as brothers. They grew close in their little hut in the wilderness, far away from the city. They swore to look out for each other, whatever might come. Both wanted to help their father to clear his name and bring justice into the country. But one day their father decided that it was time for the boy to go back into the states. He was not safe in their country and had nothing to do with the revolution that was raging in their land. So, he sent a small maybe ten-year-old boy back into the States. He told him that he’d take him back, as soon as the situation had calmed down… But he never came. He never saw his brother again. He was left alone in a country he didn’t know but now was his home. Sure, at first some people, who had fled the country because they were wanted followers of the revolution, had taken him in, but after some time they had flee again and he was brought into an orphanage. … And there was where he and Clay ultimately landed. Where they became friends for life… …”
“…”
“…”
“I… Might I ask you something?”
I felt tears glistering in my eyes and my voice was breaking helplessly. I could not believe I really was crying, while Apollo was the one who was hurting so much. Who had gone through such misery. Not knowing his parents, being sent away by the one’s who had looked after him and lost every friend on that journey.
And I was the one who was crying now, while he looked at me in pity.
“Sure. Ask what you want.”
“Was the brother older or younger than – than the boy?”
Confusion showed in his eyes at first. Then realization hit him, and he turned to the side to hide the pained grimace forming on his face.
“He was a bit older than him. But he would still be a bit younger than you… His name is Nahyuta. He used to be very kind and patient. A bit of a know-it-all and really proud of his parents. Maybe a bit unsure of himself, although he was really smart and as well read as he could be. He was an awesome brother…”
We fell in silence. He did not look at me for some time and let me calm down.
“It’s fine. It’s a kinda sad story.”
I laughed bitterly.
“But it’s not mine. I’m not the one who should be shaken up by it. This is not about me and –“
“I’ve lived with this for my whole life. It’s shitty but it’s my reality. I can’t imagine having a different life even though all of this sucked. You on the other hand had a different life. You can compare it to a different reality that might have been better or worse. It’s fine, you’re shaken up by it.”
I nodded with my head hanging low and met his gaze. He looked relieved, as if a stone had fallen from his heart.
Apparently, I had actually managed to help him process a bit. At least I had been able to do so much.
“I’ve never asked – but… how are you doing regarding Kristoph? I mean, I had Clay to help me through it and in the end, he wasn’t that important to me. But he is your brother. He must have meant something to you. Probably still does. Are you okay with it?”, Apollo asked me sincerely with an emotional expression.
I felt my pulse speed up a bit, but somehow, I remained unusually calm. For once his name did not startle me so badly as it normally did.
“It’s -”, I began with a voice that did not sound like mine, “it’s alright. The punishment he was given, was accurate and I think he gets what he deserved. So, I can’t really say that I’m mad about it. Maybe sad and confused from time to time? I don’t know… It’s still hard to realize that he is actually a murderer, a sociopath even…”
“Hmm…”
He looked to the ground and moved some pebble around with his foot. It looked a bit like he was drawing something, and I watched it as if I was hypnotized. It had something calming to it.
“Sorry, that I didn’t try to help you… You really could have needed support right after everything.”
“… It’s alright. You didn’t know me and there were other people that needed your attention more than I did, Herr Forehead.”
“Maybe… Still, that doesn’t mean you didn’t need any help.”
“True.”
“Know what? Let’s make a deal! From now on, we’ll do this more often and just have a good talk. Both of us could need this kind of outlet, don’t we?”
I hesitated.
“You’re not wrong there… I – Yeah, we might as well try it, right?”
“Right! So, it’s a deal?”
“Yeah, it’s a deal.”
“Cool. You should probably call me Apollo then, even when your nick names for me are quite charming.”
I laughed and lightly hit him on his upper arm.
“As you wish, Apollo. I’m Klavier then for you.”
“Nice… I’ve always wanted a friend who was called after an instrument”, he joked and hit me back.
We did not speak for some minutes after that. We just stood there in the moon’s blue light in front of this tranquil little pond. The reflection of the night’s guardian wavered in the water and I imagined to have seen a smile in its mirage.

Congratulations, ALYX! You’ve been accepted for the role of VIOLA. Admin Rosey: As we all know -- I am a Viola stan first and a human being second. And a Phoebe Tonkin stan third. But that’s beside the point. Viola is a character who is highly complex because of all the moving gears and pieces that she had going on; deception, familial obligation, honor, and heart. She’s a self-made woman and it’s difficult to capture the voice and methodology of a character like that -- but Alyx, you have truly outdone yourself and capture her perfectly. She’s a catalyst and I can’t wait to see what chaos will come undone at her touch. Please read over the checklist and send in your blog within 24 hours.
WELCOME TO THE MOB.
Out of Character
Alias | Alyx
Age | 20
Preferred Pronouns | She/Her
Activity Level | Pretty active! I’m out of school for the Summer and I have yet to find a Summer job so I’ll be around whenever you need me. I will be going out of town for one week in June but even then I’ll have my laptop so I can still rp and keep in touch with the players.
Timezone | CST
How did you find the rp? | Honestly I’ve known about it since its first release. I planned on applying the first time around but I just never felt a serious connection with any of the characters. Now, I was reminded of it when Rosie reblogged a character bio and honestly I was hooked after that.
Current/Past RP Accounts | https://camillepaol.tumblr.com/ and https://emiliadelacroix.tumblr.com/ are my most recent ones.
In Character
Character | Viola
Valentina- “Healthy, strong”
→She prided herself on being strong. At first, it was a means of survival. Toughen up, or you’ll die another nameless kid in the streets. She kept her chin up. She kept her mind sharp. She knew she needed to know the streets of Verona better than the people that built it if she wanted to live to fight another day. Then, it became more of a pride thing. She had made it through the first few years without her parents. She and her brother were still alive. She couldn’t crash now, or else the life she worked hard for might fall apart before her very eyes. She prided herself on being the strong one, the fighter of the duo, and she didn’t plan on changing that. Finally, it felt easy being strong. No tears were shed over meaningless things. No thoughts of giving up after a failed con job. She was told that she needed to break the world or the world would break her, so she any opportunity life threw in her direction and she ran with it. Working for the Montagues was just the peak for her. A purpose, a reason to fight, people to fight for. Yes, there was no doubt in her mind that her strength had gotten her further than any doubt or crying could have.
Persephone- “Queen of the Underworld”
→ She was too young to remember her middle name, so she chose one for herself. Queen of the Underworld, Goddess of Death and Spring. She felt that the name suited her as well as it suited the Greek figure the name originated from. She wasn’t that young girl that ran around picking flowers. She wasn’t naïve enough to think the world was a kind and good place. No, that mentality was lost the moment her parents abandoned her and her brother. That mentality brought on the girl she is today. The woman who calls the night her home. The woman who would walk through Hell to protect her brother. The woman who is locked in a dance with death itself, yet somehow always comes out on top. She was no maiden. She wasn’t as pretty and fragile like the flowers that represent Spring. No, she was the inevitable. She was a queen in the slums she called her home, and she was ready to make people see that she was more than meets the eye.
Gallo- “Family Name”
→ Valentina Gallo. Welcome to this world. Oh, how she wished that’s how her story began. There were days when she wished she had been born into a loving family. She used to be able to picture her brother and her living in a nice house and not having to worry about money or the struggles of growing up. Sadly, that’s not how her story went. There were no Christmas mornings spent around a fire. There were no family meals before school. Her last name didn’t bring about joyous memories, but rather painful reminders of a life that was lost. She had no positive memories of her parents. How could she, knowing how their story ended? How could she think about the good they did when all she truly knows is their absence? Some days she wished she could see them again only to tell them how well she’s been without their presence in her life. Valentina thought about changing her last name. Smith, Erickson, anything to scrub her parent’s burn marks away and allow her a new beginning. She had even traced the steps form her small hole in the wall to the courthouse to make the switch when something held her back— Santino. It was a symbol of their connection. He was the sun to her moon. He was the Apollo to her Artemis. Two sides of the same coin, she’d give up everything to keep him safe. Valentina kept going so he would live. She turned colder so that he could keep his light. He was a soft glow of a candle and she’d be damned if someone blew him out. She’d keep the family name, but only because it allowed them to have a connection so deep that only death could shatter it.
What drew you to this character? |
Honestly my usual type of character would be the soft ones with a tragic past, but I always found myself admiring the strong characters as well. There’s something so captivating about a character with a lot of fight and drive in their system, and I definitely felt that in Valentina’s bio. She’s had to fight from a very young age. She never got to be this soft, delicate little girl who got shielded from the bad things in the world. She’s someone who’s known pain and neglect since childhood and it definitely affected her in a lot of ways— even though she would never admit to the fact.
I think I like her because I understand her. I understand her need to fight the world. She’s a girl driven by passion. That passion could be good and help her, such as putting on a good performance to score some money for her and her brother, or that passion could hurt her, such as becoming a double agent for a mob that wouldn’t hesitate to kill her if she stepped out of line. I feel like she tends to walk a fine line between the two, but she finds a certain thrill in that risk. She’s one to take chances and hope that it pays off in her favor. She’s someone that will accept any challenge thrown her way. She’s daring, temperamental, ambitious, and just a strong willed woman in this rp.
I know she may not be my strong suit when it comes to characters, but I genuinely feel like I can do her justice. I put my all into developing my characters past their bios and connections, and Valentina will be no exception. Especially since this is such an intricate and involved rp, I have no doubts that I can make our local Montague soldier shine in the way she rightly deserves.
What is a future plot idea you have in mind for the character? |
Self: You weren’t born to be soft and quiet.
→ I want her to struggle between her roles. She’s someone who wants more, but more can become too much very quickly. She’s a girl balancing between the Montague soldier that she actually is and the Capulet soldiers she’s pretending to be. At one point, the balance will shift and one side will not be happy with the result. I’m waiting for that day because I feel like it’ll give Valentina a bit of a reality check. She’s someone who believes she could carry the weight of the world on her shoulders and be fine, but the mobs aren’t people to test and she’ll eventually have to learn that lesson.
→ Honestly this one would have to be discussed with the admins and the Santino rper, but I’d think it would be interesting if their parents resurfaced after all of those years. It’s my understanding that they left and didn’t die, so I would love the angst that would come out of the unwelcome reunion. Valentina’s a person who really doesn’t think of her parents with respect or fond memories, but it might be a different story if they were actually face to face with her. Would they be proud of the person she became? Would she care if they were proud? Would she even let them near Santino? All questions that might be answered in due time.
→ I want her to interact with more people. I feel like since she’s playing one side while remaining loyal to another, it could lead to a lot of interesting relationships. I like the thought of her actually being fond of one of the Capulets and being worried because she knows how deep the feud runs and knows people who interact with the enemy don’t last long. I also like the thought of her just getting to know some neutrals and letting the disguises she wears down a little. She’s so caught up in this fight that she often forgets how to breathe, and I feel like a neutral character could teach her how to let go of the breath she’s constantly holding.
Santino: Hell is just another place you’ll go to keep him warm.
→ I want all of the flashbacks from their childhood. They were truly the only thing that kept each other going, so I’d like to explore that dynamic. Go into detail about how they learned to survive on the streets. Explore their first con or first bit of change they snuck out of a man’s pocket. Dive deeper into how they reacted to being abandoned by the people that were supposed to care for them the most. Their upbringing played a bit part in who they are, so let’s take a trip to the past and really get into the mindset of these two street rats.
→ I want something that will tear these two apart. Maybe it’s a betrayal or death, but anything that will drive a wedge between these two siblings. They’ve always been around each other, but what if that weren’t the case? Valentina thinks the world of her brother. Santino loves his sister more than anything. I want to see what will need to happen for that to change. I’m not sure anything will truly turn them against each other, but I do feel like things can happen that will make these two kind of take a step back from their dynamic and explore other relationships.
Ramona: Not yet corpses. Still, we rot.
→ I love these two and would love to explore their dynamic. They’re just so similar, the same soul trapped in two bodies, and I want nothing more than to rp them and their adventures. Valentina’s someone who didn’t grow up around girls and wasn’t used to having female companionship, so I want to explore their first meeting. They’re like thunder and lightning, a frightening combination, and I want to know if people around them always knew they’d end up that way or if their friendship was a bit of a shock to the Montague crew.
→ I want Ramona to find out about Valentina’s secret. This could be done either by accident or Valentina giving her the information herself. Valentina’s someone who has a “I don’t need anyone’s help” mentality, so I think it would be interesting to see her give in and let someone know what she’s been trying to do. I also want to see how Ramona reacts to it. Would she be impressed? Would she think Valentina has a death wish? Would it be a combination of both? We don’t know. All I do know is that Valentina has to tell someone her secret sooner or later, and I’m hoping Ramona’s the person she’ll ultimately end up confiding in.
Easton: We were both created in chaos.
→ I feel like these two share some similarities with each other, and that was part of the reason Valentina sees him as a sort of weak link in the Capulet’s armor. They’re both from shattered homes. Valentina, with her abandonment and fighting to feed her and her brother. Easton, from his misplace in his own family. They’re people that could relate to one another, challenge one another and I feel like Valentina will use that as a way to grow close to the boy. If she was lightning, he would be fire, and together they could do some real damage if they were to become allies.
→ This one would definitely need to be agreed upon with the Easton rper, but I can see these two hooking up? Valentina’s trying to get through his defenses and worm her way into the Capulet’s ranks, and I can see her going this route to try to warm him up to her. They’re two people who definitely think highly of themselves, who wish to fight— whether it be their family or the world in general, and we all know passion and anger tend to walk a fine line.
Castora: You would destroy yourself for her.
→ She loves Castora as much as she loves Ramona. The cousins are the closest friends she has, and Castora definitely has a soft spot in her heart. Valentina knows the girl’s take on love and she finds it interesting. Valetina’s a girl full of passion, a girl that would go to the ends of the earth for those few people she holds dear, so Castora’s just an enigma to her. I like to play more on their opposite feelings. Do they ever get into arguments? Does Castora’s closed off heart ever affect Valentina? Castora’s not cold, but Valentina knows that her mother affected her in a way that was quite opposite to Valentina and her parents. I just think this pairing is interesting and I want to explore their dynamic even more than the biographies have.
Halcyon: You do bad things in order to survive.
→I would love for Valentina to manage to sneak her way into Halcyon’s trusted circle. She sees this woman in power and she’s intrigued—especially because she’s a Capulet. Valentina doesn’t know her story, doesn’t know the struggles she went through to get to where she is, but she’s determined to do anything to get the woman to trust her. If she has to go digging into the woman’s past, then she’ll do it. She just needs a way to connect to the woman, then she’ll be able to work her way up the ladder. It’s a dangerous task to be messing with someone so high up in the Capulets, but Valentina trusts herself enough to take on the risk.
Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | Why am I even being asked this question? Of course you can kill her off. I dare you.
In Depth
In-Character Para Sample:
Valentina was a shadow in the night, a lithe figure that seemed to move around the streets of Verona with an ease akin to that of a cat. She knew the streets like one knew an intimate lover, and the path she was on was certainly one she walked a thousand times before. It was the same every night: wander out, look for those who seem most likely to fall for a sob story or not notice a missing piece of jewelry, then come back and share the spoils with Santino. It was a routine she mastered, but it was also a routine that bored her. There were only so many times she could watch a rich businessman look at her with sympathetic eyes. There were only so many times she could walk away with an engaged woman’s ring before the nights began to blur together. She was a creature of substance, a creature of vices, and she needed to find another vice to fill her desires.
Her eyes always wandered to certain figures during her nightly strolls. Men with guns on their hips and knives strapped to their legs. Woman who walk the streets as if they owned the city itself. She watched them not with a jealousy, but rather a curiosity. She wanted to know more about them— to be one of them. They held power that she could never have in her state. They held fight that she had been displaying her whole life. Whispers were often heard about the Montagues and the Capulets, a rivalry as old as time itself, and she couldn’t help but picture herself alongside them. War is often said to tear people apart, but perhaps she was ready to be made into something new.
This would be the night it all would change. She would propose this idea to her brother: join one of the sides, move up the ranks, and finally make something of themselves. No more cons, no more stealing. They’d get enough money to get their own apartment. They’d be able to afford more food than just a piece of bread or a sandwich to split between the two of them. They’d be free to do whatever they wanted. It was a dream that Valentina only wished to follow. This rivalry would be her resurrection. This war would be her new beginning. If only she could somehow convince her soft hearted brother to go along with her plan.
Her feet carried her all the way back to the abandoned room her and her brother were staying at. She could walk around this city blindfolded and easily get to the right place. The streets had been her domain for so long that it was strange to imagine them actually living in a home and not some old motel or deserted apartment. It was a good kind of strange, though. She would love to finally have her own room and a place to store what little things she kept on her body. Her brother would be able to take up some hobbies and not have to worry about her safety all the time. It was perfect.
What was not perfect was the eerie feeling she got as she wandered up to their little hideaway. She had left her brother alone for a few hours but perhaps that was too long to be away from him. She trusted him, but everyone else in Verona? She didn’t trust them.
As she pushed the door open, her jaw clenched at the sight. The dead body spilling blood all over their few possessions. The man with a gun to her brother’s head. The quiet acceptance in her brother’s gaze—as if this truly was how he would die. There were many questions that ran through her mind, but she would have to ask those later. For now, she needed to pull off one last con and make sure her brother was well and alive.
“Well, I’m sad you all threw a party without me. Really, Santino, inform me next time we have some visitors. I would have cleaned the place up.”
She saw the man’s alarm that there was not one Gallo in his midst, but two of them. Perhaps he thought he would get done with this quickly and move on to whomever else wronged his boss, but Valentina was nothing if not difficult. She casually walked over the dead body in the room and stood near her brother and the man who was invading their space. She gently placed her fingertips on her brother’s shoulder before glancing at the man.
“Now, why don’t you put the gun down? I’m sure my brother and I can figure out some way to settle this misunderstanding. You’ll find we can be quite loyal to those that treat us well. Isn’t that right, Santino?”
And within a few more exchanges, she had sealed their fate. Work for the Montagues. A life of work in exchange for their lives. Her brother may have thought she was signing their death wish, but she found herself signing a new beginning. This wasn’t a punishment. This was a blessing, and she was ready to prove that she could be the soldier they always wanted.

my second aa fic, written in august pretty much right after i finished spirit of justice lol
characters: Apollo Justice, Athena Cykes, Klavier Gavin, mentions of both Wrights and the cat Apollo takes in in the aa5 drama cd
1739 words; gen with strongly hinted at klapollo but mostly just awkward-nice conversation; big spoilers for aa6 and the aa5 drama cd, mentioned aa4 spoilers;
two calls apollo makes while looking for a catsitter (link to ao3; fic under cut)
The second day after Dhurke's trial, when most of the Wright Anything Agency was back at home, after a long day of setting up paperwork and cleaning out years of mess from the Sahdmadhi Law Office, Apollo finally sat down and took a moment to unwind. Now almost used to the idea of living in Khura'in again, he remembered a problem that had slipped his mind in the chaos of the past week: there was no one to take care of his cat. After a moment of hesitation, and another moment to check the difference in time zones, he called Athena. She picked up at the third ring. "Apollo! What's up? Are you okay? Everything groovy with your scary new job?" "Hey Athena." His voice was considerably more level than hers. "I'm fine, we fixed up the office some and I talked a bunch with Nahyuta." Athena's peppy 'ooo' sounded tinny through the phone. "Cool beans! Were ya just calling to say how much you miss me already, then?" Her cheeky grin was somehow audible. "Ha ha ha. No, I had a, uh, favor to ask you, actually." Athena stayed quiet except for an expectant hmm, letting him continue. "I kinda, uh, forgot about it until just now but- actually, do you remember the circus case with the cat?" "Hmm? Oh YEAH, that fucker who framed Trucy! Why do you ask?" Apollo pursed his lips at her choice of words. "I never found the owner of that calico I told you guys about, so she's mine now I guess? And I don't know who's gonna feed her and stuff now, so..." Athena gasped at the mention of his cat. "Oh yeah, your girlfriend! How could I forget! Do you want me to take care of her?" "If it's not too much to ask... yeah?" Athena hummed for a moment. "I don't know... birds and cats don't get along, right? It would suck if Taka beat up your girlfriend." "Stop calling her that," Apollo said tiredly. "Right, I forgot Prosecutor Blackquill lives with you now... shit, I don't know who to ask besides you." Athena made a sad sound in the back of her throat. "What about Mr. Wright?" "Yeah, either he'd forget to feed her for a week straight or Trucy would want to try out her new combustion magic on living subjects." His tone was dry. Trucy had slyly suggested trying that particular trick on Apollo several times in the past month, and he was bitter. "Ha! Yeah, you're right, I guess." They were both quiet for a moment. If Apollo weren't dozing off from exhaustion, he would've suspected the younger attorney of planning some wild idea. "Saaaaaay, Polly," her sudden sing-songy words made him jump a little, "why don't you ask your favorite prosecutor friend?" Apollo stuttered out a "Wh-" which was ignored as she continued, "You know, the handsome charming rock star one that you get worked up over whenever you talk about him? I bet he's GREAT with cats." For a few seconds all he said in response to her ingenious idea was some angry spluttering sounds. "What- why would I ask him that? What do you mean, good with cats??" Athena laughed loudly and said, "He just seems nice! And like he wouldn't mind doing you a favor, ja?" She waggled her eyebrows alongside her excellent impression of Klavier, despite Apollo missing out on the performance. Apollo spluttered into his phone more. The irritation had at least woken him up. "What's that supposed to mean?! Athena!" She giggled. "You said you don't have anyone else to ask, right?" She cut off Apollo's 'But-', continuing with glee, "and if you don't ask him then there's no one to watch your girlfriend, jaaa? Aaaaaand!!! If you don't ask him then I will!" Apollo jumped up from the couch he was lying on. "ATHENA." "Woah, turn down the Chords there, dude. Sensitive ears, remember?" She didn't sound particularly bothered. "Aaaaanyway I've gotta go over to the Prosecutors' Office anyway to get some stuff from Simon later so! You got until lunchtime to call your boyfriend, Polly!" Apollo was pacing now, a scowl on his face. "I feel like this is probably some kind of harassment. I'd tell someo- I'd tell Mr. Wright if I thought he wouldn't just egg you on." Athena gasped theatrically. "I'm just helping a friend take care of his cat!!! And going to have a chat with my second favorite prosecutor about his favorite absent defense attorney!" Apollo grumbled some curses away from the phone mic, then took a deep breath. "So it sounds like you're planning on talking to Prosecutor Gavin today anyway?" "Hmm, yeah! I've decided on it now, and I've never changed my mind about anything." "...Right. And I'm guessing that you're going to talk to him about me whether I call him or not?" Athena's responding 'Duh' was Chords of Steel levels of loud. "What else would we talk about? The weather? Music? Junie? OH!!! Junie... Anyway! Yeah, I'm a gossip machine, Polly! It's a great way to practice analyzing emotions, you know." Apollo ignored her and poked a finger to his forehead as if he were nearing a breakthrough in court. "So if I do call him now, I'll get the leg up on you with whatever you're gonna say!" "Huh?" "Got it. I'll call him right now. Nice talk, Athena." "Uh, yeah! Have fun fixing a whole court system." Apollo hmphed, said a quick goodbye, and asked her to pass on his greetings to Blackquill and the Wrights. He hung up, found Klavier's number in his phone (Trucy had given it to the fop about a year ago, and he texted Apollo periodic congratulations on cases, well-wishes for holidays, and other ridiculous frustrating things), and gave himself a minute to get a glass of water before calling. He picked up after the first ring. "Hallo? Herr Justice? To what do I owe the pleasure?" Apollo bit back surprise at the use of his actual name and irritation at Klavier's smooth voice. "Uh, hi, Prosecutor Gavin. I don't know if you've heard, but I'm not going to be in the country for a while." Klavier hummed in response, "Ja, I heard about the trial in Khura'in through Herr Edgeworth. Sounds like you and Herr Sahdmadhi have had quite the week!" "Uh, yeah." Apollo lost his train of thought for a moment. "A-anyway I have kind of a big favor to ask, and I wouldn't be calling you but Athena can't and I don't know who else I could ask and SHE said to ask you-" Klavier cut him off before his rambling picked up enough speed and volume to rival a freight train. "Woah there, Herr Forehead, what exactly is this momentous task for me? Nothing illegal, I hope." "Of course not!!" Apollo's voice broke, turning louder and squeaky from indignation. "It's just my cat, I don't know who's gonna take care of her and I don't think there's a way to get her to Khura'in any time soon." "Oh! I did not know you had a cat!" He sounded enthused, much more than earlier in the call. "What is the little one's name?" Apollo winced. "Uh. That's kind of a weird story actually, I found her with a collar and at first I was just watching her until I could find the owner, but I never did and I never actually... got around to naming her?" Klavier's voice betrayed an amused smirk. "Then what, pray tell, do you call her, Forehead?" "Uh... Kitty." Klavier muffled a laugh that didn't match up to Apollo's memories of him, shoulders shaking, tossing his head prettily while mocking him from behind the prosecutor's bench. "Kitty! A fitting name indeed! I imagine, then, your favor is simply to take care of the feline Fraulein, ja?" "I... yeah. Is that ok?" Apollo was only half expecting to get this far. The conversation was far more painless than the ordeal he had expected. "Of course!" There was a smile in his voice, a wider more genuine one than his typical pasted-on rock star grin. "I am very fond of cats, after all, and Vongole could use the company during the day." That name sounded old and familiar to Apollo. "Vongole? Wasn't she Kristoph's dog? I... I hadn't even thought about what happened to her." Klavier hmmed. "She has been my dog for quite a while now, and seems much peppier for it." Apollo was for a moment at a loss for words. It had been a very long two days, and he did not feel at all equipped to handle thinking much more about Kristoph. However, Klavier interrupted his anxious reverie: "But! Even the most charming, coolest yellow labrador gets a bit lonely! I'm sure she'll be great friends with Kitty for however long we house her." Apollo startled, both at the offer and at the conversational lifesaver. Ugh, this guy was cool. "R-really, you're okay with this? Just like that?" Klavier hummed a lilting sound like a shrug. "Ach, surely your Kitty is more a blessing than a burden." He paused for just about a second. "And thisis the sort of thing one does for a friend. How should I go about retrieving Miss Kitty, then, Forehead?" Barely resisting the urge to throw his phone across the room or slap himself in the face from the out-of-the-blue declaration of friendship, Apollo said, "I, uh- you can use the spare key to my apartment and just pick her up, I guess? Athena knows how to get there, she said she's going to your office later." "Ah! Fraulein Cykes is always a delight." "Ha, yeah. Um, Kitty doesn't need any special food or anything, she's got her shots and stuff, I found her outside but I keep her indoors 'cause it's safer... Oh, the spare key is under the doormat!" "Cool, cool. I look forward to meeting the little lady." Apollo thought he could hear him smiling again. "She's a great cat! She's only met, uh... Clay and Athena but she's really friendly with strangers! ... Uh, thank you for this, Prosecutor Gavin. It's a lot to do at this kind of notice." Klavier snorted. "Ach, it's nothing! And, the title is a bit much now, ja? Just Klavier is fine." Apollo chewed the inside of his mouth for a second. "Klavier. Thanks."
