A lesser man might have felt fear, perhaps even horror at the sight and the meaning of what had just transpired right in front of his eyes.
But Jean-Luc Picard stood amongst the chaos solid as a rock in the face of raging sea storm.
Staring down the being responsible for all of this (because it was Q and even now, despite clear evidence to the contrary, the thought that Q of all people was someone to be feared seemed ridiculous) with only a serious but confused 'Why?' leaving his lips (anger and fury had not yet reached his mind due to shock).
And Q in answer only smiled down on him, a rather strange and unfitting expression all things considered but Picard always found Qs behavior rather unfitting to any situation at hand.
'Because, as I have told you once before, Jean-Luc, I am an extraordinarily selfish being'
#was on Twitter and saw on the daily Q account that scene#where Q tells Picard that he is 'extraordinarily selfish' because it usually serverd him well#and I can't hep but think how TNG would have gone#if Q had simply continued to be 'extraordinarily selfish'#really not caring about anyone elses comfort or happiness aside from his own#I think all the episodes following Deja Q afterwards would have gone differently#jean luc picard
