I stumbled across one of your posts from a while ago where, in the tags, you compared Seteth caring more about Rhea telling Byleth the truth than whether or not she was safe at the end of Silver Snow to Kaze defecting to Nohr because of Corrin, in terms of the awfulness of the avatar worship.
While i agree with the former case being bad, i actually think that Kaze's defection is much more well-justified than Seteth suddenly caring more about Byleth than Rhea.
A fundamental part of Kaze's backstory and character is that he feels an immense amount of guilt for failing to save Corrin from being kidnapped by Nohr when he was supposed to be guarding them, to the point of said guilt getting him killed in Birthright if he doesn’t learn to move past his regrets and focus on the present by having a heart-to-heart with Corrin in their A-support; that, coupled with the fact that he only joins after personally witnessing Corrin go out of their way to avoid killing enemy soldiers, which concinces him that Corrin's plan to change Nohr from the inside in order to make it more a more peaceful place is true, makes it less avatar worship and more just a natural development for Kaze's estabilished character, imo.
Where i do think his motivation starts faltering is that the game doesn't really put in enough effort to address Kaze's feelings after Corrin's plan falls through and they have to go to war against Hoshido; the closest it gets to that is having him tell Corrin that siding with Hoshido wouldn't necessarily have been the best choice and that both Nohr and Hoshido think that they're fighting for the sake of justice in Chapter 17 of Conquest: (jp version, translated by fateswartable)
Kamui: ….
Suzukaze: Lady Kamui…
Kamui: Sorry, Suzukaze. Joining me must be painful for you.
Suzukaze: N- No, that’s…!
Kamui: Saizou, Kagerou… And all of the Hoshido shinobi defeated today… If I chose another path, we could have fought together.
Suzukaze: …That’s right. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the right way. Both Hoshido and Nohr too are fighting for justice. That’s something everyone should know. Even brother, surely.
Kamui: Yes… Thank you, Suzukaze…
While Kaze growing to think of Nohr as also fighting for it's own justice through his time living in the country, causing him to choose to fight for it over Hoshido, is an interesting direction to take his character in, it's kinda undercut by the fact that, not only does this development happen entirely off-screen, but that Kaze has no presence in Conquest's plot afterwards; the game never develops or expands on his newfound motivation after Chapter 17, forcing players to just settle for a throwaway line and the fact that he still feels bad for failing to protect Corrin as the only reasons why he's willing to fight and kill his own brother and former allies.
It's underdeveloped, to be sure, but i wouldn't call it a flaw caused by avatar worship, and certainly not as bad as Seteth, out of nowhere, not giving a fuck about Rhea's safety or location and only caring about her insofar as what she can tell Byleth about their origins.
Oh !
TBH, Fates's avatar wanking looks.... tame, compared to FE16 Supreme Leader wanking and Billy wanking.
But it's still... there.
I was re-reading the RD battle/talk quotes from Part 3, where Miccy's army and Ike's army fight, and how some people choose to fight against others for, uh, reasons -
Some Daien people are fighting because their king does, some do because the believe in Miccy and, well, some (Nailah, Kurth and Rafiel) know the truth, and how Miccy can't back down, else her people will die.
Nohr fighting for its own Justice in CQ always felt, well. Corrin saved Kaze, and wants to change Nohr from the inside.
However, in CQ (my mind is foggy?) Nohr is, iirc, invading Hoshido. It's not like a war where someone wants to erase someone else or pissed on a diplomatic proposal asking for reparations for a genocide, nope. In FE14, Nohr kills the Hoshidan Queen, and in CQ, well, conquers/invades Hoshido.
Even if Kaze learnt and witnessed how Nohrians aren't baby eating monsters in their everyday life (save for iago) why and how is them invading Hoshido any form of "justice"? Mc Guffin here and there means Gooron has to sit on the Hoshidan throne to turn into goo - and yet, even if deposing Gooron is the best thing to do to change Nohr from the inside, how can this (invasion to depose) be justified and bought by a Hoshidan as "Justice" and acceptable?
Maybe I'm too used to the FE14 lolcalisation, but Kaze pulling the "justice" card here is oddly reminiscent of Tru Piss Sylvain (I think?) who says they can't reason with the Kingdom they're invading because each party fights for their beliefs like Faerghus just wanting to exist
If Kaze became a green unit like Aerone or Gale (in FE6 iirc?) and died due to Iago Iago-ing or Hans Hans-ing I'd have prefered it to him joining on Conquest because of his guilt regarding Corrin and "witnessing him sparing soldiers". And yet, buying the "everyone fights for their own justice" and choosing Norh is, idk, strange. Maybe it would have been better if, as you said, his change of heart wasn't off-screen...
Coming from FE10 to FE14 was already kind of ultra meh in terms on dealing with the unit that became a turncoat, but FE16 takes it to new heights.
So yeah, I was exaggerating when I compared the Billy worship to Kaze lol, but I thought about it because it's the only pair of siblings I remember where an avatar inserts themselves in an existing relationship and effectively severs it.
Seteth not giving any fucks about Rhea (and to some extent, Flayn too, she's not mentionned in their A-S support, when, maybe shipping googles make a bit biased, his support with Manu talking about remarriage mention his daughter!) is completely wild, but just like everything in FE16, characters, the plot and the lore can be forgotten and torn apart if it means the player can be pandered to, via Billy or Supreme Leader.
#anon#replies#FE14#FE16#player pandering sucks#thanks for the 'everyone fights for their own justice' line#it would have made me furious back then#but now FE16 exists so#in french we have a proverb to mean something bad already existed but you notice it later#le ver est dans le fruit#but after FE16 the avatar wanking from FE14 feels so tame#like eating one peanut when FE16 is full on peanut butter#lizard family time?#only because I remembered that post and why I ranted about it lol

OH BOY PACI YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU UNLEASHED BY TELLING ME TO TALK ABOUT VUL AND TURE IN YOUR INBOX!!!!
oKAY SO!!! it starts like how all things in gods below start: with the goddess. So the goddess has just been created and she makes the world and humans and animals and beasts and everything and she goes you know what would be fun? if I just started killing everything I just made! so she does! but here's the thing! when you start killing stuff, they arent going to worship you anymore and instead are going to fear you! so the humans begin fighting back and stop giving the goddess gifts and she throws a tantrum about it before deciding that the only sane thing to do is to make a new form that looks very similar to a human and pretends to kill her true form and it works! humanity begins to worship her again!
a couple hundred years pass and the goddess is like "damn... im super fuckin bored again and i cant just kill people like last time" so she does what anyone in her situation would do and makes a new sentient species that just kills people so she can watch them slaughter cause its funny then calls them servants. because its totally not a red flag when your god makes servants that just kill you for funsies. theres plenty of servants, with them being divided into two types. magic type, and physical type. those are pretty easy to understand methinks but the gist is just that magic types are good at killing with spells and physical types are good at killing with their physical bodies. aditionally, all servants are created in sibling pairs who's names make up one full bird name (some examples are buzz and ard, as well as spar and row). these sibling pairs are made up of one of each type, although which one isnt always consistent, and sibling pairs dont have to be set genders. if one member of a pair dies, the remaining one will take on the rest of their name and make it just the bird name (an example of this is parrot who was previously named rot until they lost their sibling to humans that fought back)
of the servents, one sibling pair created with much more power than the rest quickly rise to power. These servants are vul and ture. vul is their magic type and ture is their physical type. The two were incredibly close, and their combined power was able to slaughter entire armies in only an hour. They rule as the princess and prince of the servants until the events that end arc one of gods below.
you see, because the servants were created to be scapegoats, the humans didn't know they were linked to the goddess. eventually, being the scapegoat makes ture upset, as he's sick of being treated like shit by the people while they still worship his creator and he begins to work on a revolution. unlike ture, however, his sister, vul, is still a blind follower of the goddess. this loyalty eventually morphs into a crush, and the goddess immediately takes advantage of this.
the goddess convinces vul that she can tell her anything and that the goddess cares about her more than anyone else and vul is constantly manipulated and lied to by the goddess. this is the start of a horrible relationship, and one of many in gods below that include the goddess unfortunately.
ture goes to his sister to tell her about the rebellion, but vul refuses to believe, insisting that the goddess is really a good person and that theres a reason for everything that she does. ture tries to concince his sister of the goddess being literally the worst and tell her about how the goddess is simply using her, but vul refuses to believe. ture gives an ultimatum, join the rebellion, or he will kill her, but he does make it obvious that he really doesnt want to kill vul.
so, vul tells the goddess about ture's rebellion ahd the goddess goes "okay so im gonna make these two fight to the death! sweet!"
so the goddess tells vul that if she fights her brother for her (which she doesn’t need to do because the goddess is A FUCKING GOD) then she will make vul a god and then the two will get married so that vul will be her queen. Vul accepts, but on the condition that HE gets to be the goddess’ KING instead. The goddess agrees because she's the worst bisexual ever.
vul and ture fight, and ture tells vul that this will only hurt him in the long run and that he should just step aside. vul does not, and the fight continues.
ture starts winning easily because while both are p tanky and stuff, vul does not stand a change in a physical fight with his brother because ture is more physical powerful, whereas vul is more magically powerful.
ture is winning, and is about to kill vul, but he hesitates. thats his sibling. he doesnt think defeating the goddess be worth it without him. vul takes the opportunity to seal him away and end the battle
now that ture is gone, the goddess is like "haha thank you babe <3 (i do not love you) i love you so much (i will abuse you) we will be such a good couple (we will not)" and transforms vul into a god, giving him a similar form to her goddess form and then they get married and proceed to have the worst marriage ever.
this is the end of arc one! there is more but i will get to those in the next few asks!
-of course it starts with the goddess it always does
-faking your death #justgirlythings
-oh boy! Servants that Kill!!
-oooohh so they're all named like that okay cool cool cool
-Kinda banger to be named Rot
-Of fucking course they're scapegoats
-oh yay!!! Revolution!!!!
-Yippee!!!! Toxic relationships
-ULTIMATUM
-death matches it's always death matches
-OH GOD OH FUCK VUL VUL ITS A TRAP VUL GODHOOD IS A PRISON AND ONLY THE GODDESS CAN ESCAPE OH GOD VUL CANT HEAR US THEY HAVE AIRPODS IN
-Trans rights tho I guess
-the old bait and seal

So, I think I’m done with Rising of the Shield Hero. I tried to get into it, watched about fifteen episodes, and can honestly say that it’s shit. It’s really, really, shit. The villains are one dimensional, it’s insanely cliche, and every plot point feels forced. It’s like someone set out to create the worst concept for an anime possible and then tried their hardest to make it a good show.
Like, why would anyone make a show where a little girl becomes an adult woman overnight but still has the mind of the child and also wants to fuck her adoptive father? Who thought that was a good idea?
And, to be fair, the show tries really really hard to be good despite its premise being filled with every horrid trope possible. I would love it if it was just a chill show about a single father starting a small buisness. Hell, the idea of a hero framed for crimes he didn’t commit trying to clear his name isn’t even that bad. But when you add in things like slavery, false rape acussations, and a world where every single goddamn person is a stupid asshole who goes out of there way to make things bad for the main character because the show’s plot is as thin as crappy toilet paper, it stops being enjoyable. It becomes something that you roll your eyes at.
It took me a while to figure out why the show bugged me so much, but I’ve realized that the problem with Shield Hero is the fact that Naofumi is an awful human being.
For those who haven’t scene the garbage heap that is Shield Hero, the concept of the show is that a standard Isekai protaganist is going through a standard Isekai plotline when he is falsely accussed of rape by a woman. Said woman accuses him of rape because...reasons. Anyway, because everyone thinks he’s a rapist, no one wants to help him fight monsters. So, naturally, he does the only sensible thing: he buys a child slave.
Now, I know what some of you are going to say: he had to buy a child slave or die so he isn’t a bad person. That just means the author went out of their way to make an overcomplicated series of events that resulted in the main character dying if he doesn’t buy a slave.
So Naofumi buys a slave (a slave who physically can’t disobey him which helps him with the fact that he doesn’t trust women) and makes her a child soldier. Our hero, everyone. Sure, he eventually warms up to her and there’s some wholesome stuff with him being a dad, but that doesn’t get rid of the fact that their relationship started with him buying her and making her risk her life against her will.
And then, we get the irideemable moment: Naofumi goes back to the slave merchant. And then he goes back again. And again. And again.
Now, buying a slave when the shitty plot forces you to do so is standable. But countinuing to give money to a slave merchant so you can own human beings once you’re strong enough to surive on your own? Fucking despicable.
By the time I stopped watching, Naofumi has gone to the slave merchant on five seperate ocassions. Each time, we see the horrible conditions these slaves are kept in. We see them sitting in their own filth, barely clinging to life. It’s explicitly stated that Raphtalia (slave #1) would have died because of the poor conditions if Naofumi hadn’t bought her.
Now naturally Naofumi, being a person with a concince, is disgusted by this. As soon as he’s able to he kills the slave merchant and frees his slaves. Just kidding. Naofumi happily gives the slave merchant money then leaves without a second thought, abandoning the imprisoned slaves to die in chains.
After I decided to stop watching, I looked at some wiki pages to see if Naofumi ends up killing the merchant, or at the very least stops giving him money. Turns out, later chapters of the light novel have Naofumi buying more fucking slaves!
I’ve talked to this with some other anime fans on Reddit and they tend to downplay this atrocity buy pointing out that slavery is legal and Naofumi is nice to his slaves. Setting asside the horrible implications of those statements, Naofumi’s treatment of his slaves isn’t the issue. The issue is him constantly giving money to people involved in the slave trade. Even if he isn’t evil, the people he constantly gives money to are. Naofumi is complicit in the actions he funds.
There’s one disgusting scene that I have to bring up. A few episodes in, the show’s evil villains remove the magic spell that prevents Raphtalia from disobeying Naofumi (those bastards). Naofumi goes back to the slave merchant and give him a shitload of money to reapply the spell because Raphtalia actually likes being a slave. The fact that the writer of Shield Hero made a scene where a racial minority tells the man that owns her as property that she likes being enslaved and plays it as a heartwarming moment is bad enough, but it gets worse.
The slave merchant jokes that Raphtalia isn’t a virgin when Naofumi stops by to have the spell reaplied. He’s wrong, by the way, but that doesn’t make it any less fucked up. The slave merchant is a man who sold a child who can’t disobey commands to a known rapist, who assumes that he raped her, and is absolutely fine with this. The slave merchant is iredeemably evil. And Naofumi? Naofumi gives him money.
How many children has the merchant sold to pedophiles? How many children have died because he didn’t give a fuck about their lives? How many more slaves will he be able to buy with the money Naofumi gave him? Naofumi knows this evil man exists and does nothing to stop him. Because letting the slave merchant live is benefitial to Naofumi. Because Naofumi doesn’t give a fuck about right and wrong, only about whether or not things benefit him. Because Naofumi is every bit as evil as everyone thinks.
And, when I realized that, I couldn’t watch the show any more. If the concept of the show is a good man clearing his name, and he’s a completely evil bastard who deserves to be hated, what the fuck is the point of the show?

Hi there :) for the ship thing: The Freshman (ugh I know), ES, and TC&TF pls! I'm 5'3", black, and gay as hell. I love dressing up, I love Disney esp Disney princesses, am sarcastic 24/7, and love to annoy my friends :P, but can be shy with ppl I don't know and can come off as mean sometimes. I'm on track to become a lawyer, but my real dream is to be on Broadway + act. I like listening to kpop and learning the dances, especially for girl groups. My 2018 resolution is to finally get a gf 😂 thx!
Here it is Anon, hope you like it and happy new year to everyone!
I Ship You With…
B E C C A D A V E N P O R T
(faceclaim: Scarlett Leithold)• I think you two would have met in a classic way at Hartfeld, maybe because you shared classes or something, and would have clicked off instantly, leading to a proper first date only a few days later. It was a snowy, December day on which you didn’t have any classes, so you went to the zoo and spent the entire day on your own, only with the majestic and adorable creatures.
• After visiting the zoo, you would sneakily throw a snowball at Becca, and she would playfully reply with another one; it would escalate into a massive snowball fight, and eventually into your first kiss.
• You were surprised by Becca’s romantic and affectionate side; you didn’t expect the strong-willed sorority sister to be so tender and sweet behind closed doors, but there was something about you, something she couldn’t quite decipher and something she simply was infatuated with.
• I headcanon Becca as tall, maybe 5'8", so the height difference between the two of you would be her favorite subject of teasing and mockery. She would often ask you what’s the weather like down there, or if you need help reaching the top shelf. However, she loves it when you’re slowdancing alone in your dorm and your head is buried in the crook of her neck while she lightly traces abstract shapes on the fabric of your shirt.
• You two would fall asleep facing each other, after talking for hours, discussing the latest gossip or debating whether this certain character from that certain TV show deserves redemption. Since you two seem very stubborn, no one would want to back down - rather dead than defeated! - and those debates would quickly degenerate. When things start to get out of hand, you hold out your hand for her to shake it, offering a truce; she eyes it for a long time, then sighs and agrees - “Truce”.Q U I N N K E L L Y
(faceclaim: Molly C. Quinn)• The way Quinn confessed her feelings for you was unusual, or at least unexpected: she sent you a love letter. You had been friends for a long time until one day you found the sweetest love letter in your locker. Quinn admitted she was head over heels for you, that you were the one who helped her go on and be strong in spite of her illness, and that she dearly hoped you reciprocated her feelings. Luckily for her, you did.
• You would get her into Kpop in like 39 seconds. She would INSTANTLY fall into the deep, black abyss of the KPop fandoms, and you two would BLAST Kpop songs literally everywhere (which annoys the crap out of the entire college but who cares)
• Randomly breaking into Blackpink or Red Velvet dance routines in the middle of the campus because even if you are only two, you know the dances by heart and Madison would join anyway (because she’s KPop trash you can’t convince me otherwise)
• Adding “going to Korea together” to your bucket list, and you cling onto that dream because you’re determined to make it happen.
• And you do. After you graduate, the first thing you do is going on vacation to Japan and Korea and you couldn’t wish for a better person to be with, or a better place to be in.
• And when you come back to America, you would go to Disney World in Florida, because you’re ALSO Disney trash (sorry I don’t make the rules) and having the best time of your life, traveling around the world with your girl!
V A L E N T I N A G R E A V E S
(faceclaim: Christian Serratos)• I believe that since you two are very sarcastic and cynic, the two of you being together would be AN AVALANCHE OF SASS.
• And by that I mean you’re either the couple that’s trashing each other 25/8, or the couple that’s trashing literally anyone else 25/8. You love the latter the most because talking shit and annoying people with Val is one of the most fun experiences of your life. You knew Val was, hum, how could I say, acerbic, but you didn’t think it would be so pleasing to destroy literally anyone who crosses your path with her.
• After HOURS of negociation and fruitless threats, you would FINALLY persuade her to dress up for Kenna’s birthday party; you wouldn’t have missed the sight of Val in a dress for anything the world. She looked so out of place it was touching, with her hair carefully curled by Annelyse, her bright jewels hanging from her neck and her crimson red.
• Actually, the argument that had concinced Val was that you had promised if she wore that dress, you would be more than glad to tear it to pieces when the festivities are over.
• Your favorite thing to do apart from trash-talking the rest of the court would be to set traps and pull pranks on them. Hearing them scream in terror/shock and then running away before they could catch you was one of the funniest and most rewarding experiences you had lived in Stormholt.
ships are closed, but you can still request anything else!
