Hey welcome for this new article which will talk about music!!

Today we are going to talk about the new Purple Kiss album: Cabin Fever.

For those who don't know Purple Kiss is a girl group of six members (initially seven): Goeun, Dosie, Ireh, Yuki, Chaein and Swan (the member who left the group being Jieun for health reasons). They started in March 2021 and even if they are not very experienced yet I think they will have a long career ahead of them.

As for the "theme" of the group, it is a magic theme, a bit dark sorcery. However each album is very different from each other.

"Ponzona" was a pretty simple, slightly sultry song.

"Zombie" was fun and colorful.

"Memem" was a bit more electronic.

"Nerdy" had a rock side to it.

"Sweet Juice" has a bit of a cabaret feel.

That's one of the main reasons I love this band is that you never quite know what to expect.

As for the previous albums the young women took part in the writing of the songs (except the intro). Yuki wrote all his raps. Goeun participated in the writing of the title track as well as another title of the album. Chaein and Dosie also each worked on a song. even the CEO of RBW participated by participating in the writing of one of the songs. Chaein also composed the song she wrote. I'm not sure about the choreographies but in general I know that they participate in the development of these.

I'm really a fan of this album. It has to be my favorite from Purple Kiss so far. Each song is different I find (except the intro and the title track which complement each other). The group uses sounds that we hear very little and stands out thanks to that. each song is a bit like a spell they cast on fans to bewitch them (which goes perfectly with their concepts 🤣).

1.Intro : Save me

The intro is very intriguing on the level of the lyrics one wonders what will happen in the rest of the album. She is very sweet and sensual. For me it's the kind of song you play at the end of the evening before putting everything away and going to sleep, just to relax.

2.Sweet Juice

A very sensual and very sweet song musically as well. It completes the intro since it talks about the same thing but from a different point of view. I find it a bit unfortunate that Ireh and Dosie have fewer lines than the others, but maybe they were busy developing the choreography and that's why they have fewer lines. I don't know. the rap is also very soft I think which goes well with the rest of the song.

3. T4ke

I love this song ! Once again we are on a slow and sensual rhythm. I think it's a perfect mood song for a romantic evening. the only small problem is the slightly dark side of the lyrics of the song but maybe it's just my personal interpretation.

4. Autopilot

So i love this song. The rhythm changes from the rest of the album and there is a little 70s air that I quite like. But I have to admit that something is stressing me out: I know the sample and I can't figure out where. So if this ever means something to you, please let me know.

5. Agit

Agit is my favorite song on the album (even though I love the others). Sounds like the kind of song that plays in teen movies during the prom dress fitting scene. I think it's the perfect song to put in the car when you're with friends.

6. So far so good

I like when albums end with a ballad. I think that's a good way to end. So far so good is an excellent ballad. And the text is just beautiful. It's one of my favorite Purple Kiss albums.

Last year’s Subnormal Girls LP compilation was one of the best archival punk collections in recent memory, and Waiting Room Records are back with a second volume of international femme-punk obscurities from 1979 to 1984. There’s a handful of selections this time around that have been included in some other really great (and for the most part, still in-print) reissue efforts over the last few years, but if you’ve slept on picking up, say, the Life It’s A Joke/We Live In A System anthology LP that Softspot Music did for spiky synth-wielding Belgian anarcho-punks KEBAB, or Danger Records’ 7” re-release of the three songs that Austria’s PLASTIX had originally contributed to the Die Tödliche Dosis compilation in 1981, this might be the motivation that you need to finally remedy that. The B-side of that 7” (“Count”) is included here, and it’s an absolutely perfect slice of rough-around-the-edges femme-punk, with a wildly zigzagging bassline, some scratchy guitar and the deadpan recitation of lines as brilliant as “he was the man of my dreams / I think I had a nightmare.” I’ve extolled the virtues of UK DIY one-single wonders OCCULT CHEMISTRY in this column before, and there’s a reason why their song “Fire” is basically a permanent part of my arsenal alongside my MO-DETTES and DELTA 5 records when I DJ out at bars. Other personal faves on this volume include Québécoise punkers TÉRAPI’s jagged new wave ripper “Camisole,” with urgently snapped vocals en français and warbling, ‘60s garage-trash-style organ, and “Lost In Madagascar” by Australia’s ANNE CESSNA & ESSENDON AIRPORT, a totally warped minimal wave classic based around giddy sing-song lyrics nearly obscured by kaleidoscopic buzzes, whirrs and beeps of synth. Yet another essential compilation in this series (with hopefully many more to come), and it’s limited to a mere 300 copies - buy now or cry later! (Waiting Room, waitingroomrecords.bandcamp.com)

Sharp-cornered post-punk with skronky saxophone seems to be enjoying somewhat of a underground renaissance these days (a development that I thoroughly back), although BLANK SQUARE’s sax squeals deviate from the two prevailing influences of most of their peers - namely, the fiery dub/punk synthesis of Rough Trade’s late ‘70s/early ‘80s UK brigade or CONTORTIONS-worshipping No Wave dancefloor deconstruction. Rather, their debut LP Animal I has all of the clenched-jaw intensity of the more art-damaged bands operating on the early ‘80s Southern California/SST Records hardcore axis (okay, maybe just SACCHARINE TRUST), with a tightly-knotted rhythm section pummeling away behind raw-throated shouts and saxophone blurting. But alongside the moments of violent punk whiplash like the breathless 48 seconds of “Put A Lid On It,” there’s also a more foreboding and slow-burning side to BLANK SQUARE (see: “I Was High” and “Empty Head”) that has invited some pretty dead-on comparisons to the FLESH EATERS’ psychedelic hellfire rave-ups that I won’t argue with. Don’t let this one get lost amidst the endless procession of THEE OH SEES records flooding the Castle Face roster. (Castle Face, blanksquared.bandcamp.com)

French quartet SIDA have just released their first LP after a handful of cassette and singles going back to 2010, and whenever I hear people casually dropping names like NERVOUS GENDER or the SCREAMERS in reference to modern synth-punk outfits, this is the sort of terrifyingly unhinged, born-in-flames noise that I always hope for and very rarely actually find. If anything, the synth plays a supporting role here to the seething, snarled delivery of vocalist Maïssa (the brains behind one-woman minimal wave project THÉORÈME), adding a blown-out and appropriately harrowing electronic texture to her spitting and howling. The bleak, serrated sheet-metal noise of “Commercial” and “Le Crève” immediately brings to mind the more punishing and confrontational No Wave faction that included THEORETICAL GIRLS or pretty much anything that LYDIA LUNCH was involved with (particularly TEENAGE JESUS AND THE JERKS/8 EYED SPY), filtered through the distinctly 21st century techno-dystopian nightmare lens of like-minded contemporary French post-punk groups like LE CHEMIN DE LA HONTE and DELACAVE (SIDA shares their drummer with the latter). It’s not all quick flicks of the switchblade here, though - “Enterrement de Vie” grinds on a drone of spin-cycle drumming, synth static and distorted bad trip vocals for a sprawling nine minutes that makes “Death Valley ‘69” sound like the fucking MONKEES. From the vault of underrated and neglected early ‘80s US post-punk: the VERGE started out around 1980 or 1981 in Albany, New York, which is one of those perfectly nondescript places that I’ve often heard described as being a ideal stand-in for generic city settings in TV and film productions, but otherwise stuck in the overwhelming cultural shadow of New York City. The group’s only release was 1983’s four-song Habitual EP, which completely ignores the frenetic disco-not-disco dance leanings and mangled No Wave freakouts that dominated the NYC underground at the dawn of the ‘80s, aligning itself more closely with the desperate and dissonant post-punk approach of bands like MISSION OF BURMA, NATIVE TONGUE, or even the PROLETARIAT further east down I-90 in Boston - slightly off-kilter rhythms, razor-sharp bass hooks, trebly slashes of guitar, and dual (and sometimes dueling) matter-of-fact vocals. But the VERGE were also obviously affected by the reverberations from UK post-punk’s initial waves, as evidenced by the hyper-angular choppiness and lyrical agitprop of “Tradition” that could pass for an American interpretation of GANG OF FOUR (or is that a proto-FUGAZI?). It kind of blows my mind that none of these songs have found their way onto Hyped to Death’s extensive Homework compilation series chronicling the late ‘70s/early ‘80s US DIY weirdo-punk scene, but picking up those loose threads is essentially why this column exists, right?

Brussels Sprouts Tacos

Brussels sprouts tacos, coming in hot.

And I mean h-o-t.

Not, like, literally hot, but more like just NEW THING and EXCITING and ONCE THEY TOUCH YOUR LIPS YOU'LL BE ADDICTED kind of hot.

Brussels sprouts tacos are officially the most weirdly delicious way we could ever kick off Sugar Free January.

We've got sautéed seasoned brussels sprout shreds, a roasty corn and jalapeño mix, black beans and pickled red onion if you are feeling extra, all tucked into a charred tortilla and top with a generous drench of lively cilantro chimichurri and a sprinkle of cotija cheese because COTIJA CHEESE. And suddenly your life just got happier.

They are so bright and cheery, clean-eating friendly, so savory and satisfying… I can hardly stand it.

So before we get too far (aka before I lose you forever for putting brussels in tacos), I need you to know a few things.

First: The brussels sprouts are SHREDDED, okay?

Hopefully you picked up on that from the pictures. We are not talking about massive chunks of brussels sprouts here. These brussels sprouts tacos contain brussels that are so nicely textured that one might argue that they almost – *almost* – resemble a sort of shredded meat texture. I know, I know. It's so wrong that it's right.

Secondly, yes, there are quite a few elements at play here.

Brussels sprouts

Roasted corn / jalapeño mix

Cilantro chimichurri

Pickled red onions

And even though I'm mostly a minimalist when it comes to cooking – as in, don't have time to make more than one thing per recipe – I really, really enjoyed all of these elements together and I'm going to encourage you to go the extra mile (er, 10 mintues?) to make these brussels tacos realize their full potential.

Blend up that sauce, cut up those jalapenos, take the extra five minutes to prep those pickled onions.

Thirdly, these are incredibly versatile.

Use brussels as the base, use the sauce as the crown jewel. Then just load em up with whatever else you got.

I have been meaning to sneak some roasted mushrooms in there one of these days. Could someone try that for me and report back?

I promised you that we would eat really, really well this month.

Description

Savory sauteed shredded brussels sprouts tucked into charred tortillas with roasted corn, jalapeno, black bean, and cilantro chimichurri. WHOA. Yes.

Ingredients

Brussels Sprouts

16 ounces brussels sprouts, shredded

1 tablespoon taco seasoning

salt and olive oil

Corn

8 ounces frozen corn

1 jalapeño, minced

lime juice, salt, and olive oil

Cilantro Chimichurri

1 packed cup each cilantro and parsley

1/4 cup each water and olive oil

1/4 cup cashews or sunflower seeds

1 clove garlic

1/2 teaspoon salt

juice of 2 limes

Other Add-Ins

tortillas, black beans, corn, avocado, cotija cheese

Instructions

Red Onions: Optional, but yum. Start on these first – see notes.

Chimichurri: Hit up the food processor or blender and pulse it all together until smooth. Like we do.

Brussels Sprouts: Saute the brussels sprouts and taco seasoning with a little olive oil and salt until softened and yummy.

Corn: Saute the corn and jalapeño with some salt, olive oil, and lime juice. Let the corn sit in the hot pan, undisturbed, for a few minutes to get that roasty, charred thing going on.

Tacos: Assemble and devour!

Notes

Shredding the brussels: You can buy them shredded (fast and easy) or you can shred/thinly slice them yourself with a mandoline (superior texture). I've done it both ways!

Leftovers: Each element will keep for a few days in the fridge, so you're all set!

Pickled red onions: In a jar, combine half a thinly sliced red onion, 1/2 cup rice vinegar, and a pinch of salt and sugar. Add water to cover if needed. Set aside while you're prepping and they'll be good to go in about an hour. These will keep for a while, but I think they're best within the first week.

Sauce Alternative: These would also be great with magic green sauce.

How to make this vegan: Skip the cotjia cheese.
