My bad - One more thing to cover.
8x05 ratings - demo 0.31, viewership 3.977
Yes, that is super low for 911 standards. So was last week.
As I previously said, a highly anticipated Young Sheldon spinoff started airing same night, same time two weeks ago. That show blew up largely because of that relationship that this spinoff is based around. The Young Sheldon series finale had 9 million live viewers (unheard of these days).
It's the nature of the industry. A lot of people have probably switched to watching that show live and recording 911 or watching it on Hulu.
There's also sports programs airing over top of regularly scheduled programing in some areas so that doesn't help.
ABC cares about streaming numbers enough that I doubt it'll massively impact 9-1-1 in their eyes. They'd move 9-1-1 to a new night (or time) before they'd cancel it.

The funny thing about Fox dropping 9-1-1 and ABC picking it up is that they're both Disney, so it's kind of like siblings
Fox "I'm bored with this, do you want it?"
ABC "Yeah, and I'm gonna make the boys kiss"

I know it's a serious thing, but it's hilarious to me that Disney fired Jonathan Majors from being Kang after his trial, and then ABC got the exclusive sit-down interview with him.

I can't believe the Walt Disney-owned commercial broadcast network ABC cut that shovel talk scene. What's the big deal? It was a wholesome conversation that ended with a guy implying he can't get his cock-hungry boyfriend off his dick for two frickin' minutes

This was also brought to you by the Walt Disney Corporation. (Disney owns ABC).
A 2019 hot mic video showed Good Morning America Anchor Amy Robach during a commercial bemoaning how ABC had spiked the story on Jeff Epsteinā€¦ ā€œClintonā€¦ We had everything.ā€ šŸ¤”

Congrats to the fans of the wee woo show. I donā€™t go here but it makes me happy to witness how this arc for Evan Buckley got to bloom and Iā€™m happy because I hope this reflects another shift in the TV industry.
For some media commentary context for you: ABC network is owned by Disney. Fox network was owned by Rupert Murdoch. So I can see how the network change for 911 can easily be a factor on how this got greenlit, after years of creator Tim Minearā€™s intention to work in hints, on the off chance he could take it there. (I donā€™t go here, but I did my reading). Oliver Stark who plays Buck also revealed he's been for it and couldn't say anything, until he was sure they could do it, until it aired and was out there. (*steeples fingers*)
For further context, Bob Igerā€”with George Lucasā€™ vocal supportā€”just fended off a right wing coup on the Disney board from the kinds of people (like Peltz) who complain ā€œwhy do we need so many female leadsā€ ā€œwhy do we need movies with all Black leads.ā€ While it doesnā€™t mean Disney is no longer an evil megacorp, Iā€™m pointing out that its CEO defended inclusive Disney brand content to the shareholders and the board, as well as dismantling the idea that it canā€™t be entertainment while being diverse.
The ripple of this goes outside of the wee woo show fandom. Iā€™m seeing the joy on my dash from people who donā€™t watch the show or donā€™t watch it regularly, as well as from people who have been watching a long time and noticed things and realized there was a progression and it was there all along, and I know how much this must mean to a lot of people. With the world being how it is, with what people are facing inside the US from the far right, in their real lives.
Itā€™s very hopeful in general for inclusion levels on a major network TV show, owned by a big evil megacorp. Representation matters.
Also I'm aware the wee woo show already had a queer couple, plus it's already an intersectional inclusive series, thatā€™s great.
There shouldn't be limits placed on inclusion though. ā€œBut you already have Xā€ shouldn't be weaponized to tell people to shut up. There is no ā€œenoughā€ or ā€œtoo muchā€ when it comes to inclusion. While I'm not for undermining the inclusion that's there, I've seen that weaponization used with a series that hasn't been great on inclusion, and I've seen that weaponization used for 911, which is. It's a sus argument.
Indirect and unintentional as it is, also bi Buck shut down every concern troll, every gaslight, every denial, every rationale I've ever seen people deploy against bi Dean. Everything from people who donā€™t understand what bi actual meansā€”ā€œbut he likes girls so he canā€™t be biā€ā€”to ā€œbut he wasnā€™t declared bi from the start of the show so he canā€™tā€ā€”yes he can and the wee woo show just did. On one of the original big three networks. Or people who say it would "ruin the character." Really? ā€œBut heā€™s an action heroā€ā€”so what? Evan Buckley is a hero, Dean is a hero, both badass action heroes. ā€œPeople who see this as canon are delusionalā€ā€”Evan Buckley went O RLY? Not so delusional now, is it.
Evan Buckley avenged bi Dean.
Itā€™s self-evident. Itā€™s right there. Different show, different network, but the concepts are familiar, the situation has a certain familiarity. This turn of events on an ABC show didn't just make bi Dean fans valid. bi Dean fans were always valid, the bi Dean reading was always valid. But I appreciate how much what happened on the wee woo show bonked people with a truth stick, about self discovery, character arcing, queer readings, queer coding, and the validity of merely noticing things.

Still watching the Emmys. The speeches given during the Governorā€™s award were very moving but I canā€™t help but feel the cringe. Chris Abrego gave a speech about why itā€™s important to have more representation both in front of and behind the camera. He also went on to say that such projects and the actors involved need to have the budgets and the support of the studios in order to be successful. Iā€™m sorry but I couldnā€™t help but be aware of the hypocrisy. The Emmyā€™s air on ABC and ABC is owned by Disney and Disney just canceled a show that was everything Chris Abrego said studios should be getting behind. I found it very hard to get behind the message of inclusivity when the cancellation of the Acolyte and the way Disney threw Amandala Stenberg to the wolves proves otherwise and blatantly so.

9-1-1 Moving to ABC Questions Will the crew/writers/etc. change? Most likely, no.
Are Tim and Kristen still the showrunners? Presumably. Typically that would be announced now if it was changing.
Will it be on Hulu (Disney+ for international)? It should be! ABC is a Disney owned company and it shows normally are on Hulu next day (Disney+ whenever they update it)
What will happen with the sets? Ideally, they'll probably work out a deal to use the Fox sets. If not, they might move the sets. Last resort is probably rebuilding them.
Is this just like Disney moving shows from one network to another? While both companies are owned by Disney, they're still separate companies. They're still operating as all different companies.
Should we expect a change of tone in the show? ABC is very similar to FOX. I wouldn't expect anything major to change.
Do you think the move to ABC is going to mean changes in the cast? Contracts are up for renewal AFTER season 7 so right now this shouldn't affect anything with them.
Is it too soon or too delusional to wish for better promotion and maybe recent cast photos for their promotion? šŸ˜‚ Here's to hoping!! The Rookie and Grey's have FANTASTIC social media admins. Maybe these means we can actually have social media accounts again.

LOOOL! I am on the verge of tears over here picturing a scene I KNOW we will never get but god it would be spectacular if we did. Especially now that ABC has the show and Disney owns ABC and the thing that gave me the idea was the Disney football movie the Game Plan.
So the scene after Joe has just been shown that yeah Ballet is actually extremely physical and he is like wheezing and gasping trying to get a drink of waterā€¦
Aight picture it with me. Scene opens with Tommy ā€œIā€™m letting him set the pace, and Iā€™m just trying to keep upā€ Kinard insisting to someone else (maybe Lucy since she knows Buck) that they are going at his pace. And sheā€™s like mhmm and howā€™s that working out for youā€¦ and Tommy kinda gets a far off look that leads into a flash back of Buck literally flinging himself at Tommy and then itā€™s like a montage of just how ā€œslowā€ Bucks having them take itā€¦ and it ends with something similar to the wheezing and gasping needing a drink of water sceneā€¦ maybe Tommy collapsing onto the bed trying to find his breath cause it has officially abandoned him this time. And then Buck rolls into frameā€”into his arms and starts kissing along his jaw. ā€œStill good?ā€ He asks and Tommy looks exasperated.
ā€œYouā€™re going to kill me, kid,ā€ (because I freaking love that line every time I see it used) Tommy groans but pulls Buck down into a kiss anyway. Buck hums triumphantly and smiles into the kiss and rolls them out of frame.
Cut back to Tommy and (maybe) Lucy and heā€™s gone wide eyed. ā€œYeah I thought so,ā€ She laughs and the scene fades to black.
OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IDK! It would be hilarious!

So, basically, Disney is demanding writer-producers do the writing work which is necessary during post-production, even though their union is explicitly forbidding them to do this during the strike.
In the email shown in the article, Disney admits that writer-producers who do this might be fined by the WGA. There is no sign that Disney is sympathetic to this or willing to pick up the cost of those fines. They also hint that while they donā€™t want to replace someone to stands by the strike and refuses to do such duties, it is a possibility.
Tumblr media
I have to love the line about being coerced by the WGA. The letter is an exercise is coercion, carrying with it the message, ā€œDo what we say or you may lose your show.ā€
This is only the first item like this. Expect more to becoming
