was at target the other day infodumping to my cousin about toys and explained to her that Monster High has new molds with body diversity and I was like "this ones taller, this ones fatter" and she was like SHGDHHGHHHHH SHHH and dragged me to a different aisle (there was nobody in the aisle with us even??)

and I was like fat doesn't have to be a bad word its just a descriptor. and they're not even really fat they're like instagram "thicc" fat. not everyone is stick thin. and she said she felt uncomfortable because the "fatter" character I was talking about was the "only" black one

aka Catty Noir who is just the one with literally black skin

as opposed to any of the other characters with brown skin...

#toy discourse #or something lmfao #mostly i just thought this moment was funny #also earlier in the store she whispered to me that there was a black nutcracker on a pillow #so i responded out loud “oh yeah they had dark-skinned santa earrings back in the jewelry section”#and “isnt it nice they have black nutcrackers now? diversity.”#and then in my brain i was like black nutcracker i wonder if alvin ailey has ever put on the nutcracker #and i tried to explain to her how alvin ailey is an all black modern ballet dance troupe #but she was too embarassed by me for me to finish explaining that me and grandma went to go see them some years back #me a white person trying to show my white cousin you gotta be less weird about this man
