another still weird after all these years asoiaf fandom thing is all the people who watched Game of Thrones, then read the books, and then didn't immediately realize "wow Game of Thrones kind of sucks actually" and drop it as soon as Sansa married Ramsay

#what really did it for me was getting to Brienne. A show character I had initially adored #and then book brienne is just soooo much more interesting and realistic and relatable #and then show!brienne became like. very clearly an effort to 'fix' her #because you can't have a 'strong female character' who acts like an actual person whose experiences have left scars #no she's just gonna happily kill some guys and go 'u sound like a woman and women suck except 4 me and other action heroes'#'the only women who matter are the ones who lack any semblance of compassion and love 2 murder'#like in another context i think i could like the character show!brienne is? but as an adaptation of a character i relate to very much? bad
