I've just finished making these ancient Roman inspired "laurel wreath" crowns out of jewel beetle shells and preserved 17 year cicada wings. I've done three of the jewel beetle ones, so one is in my Etsy (link in bio), the cicada wing one is one of a kind so far so I haven't listed it yet. I'm really happy with how these came out!

Copper axe heads. Discovered in the Great Lakes region of the United States. From the Old Copper Culture. Old Copper Culture was active throughout the Great Lakes region from 7500 to 1000 BCE. They mined copper (hence the name) and made arrowheads, axes, fishhooks, bowls, religious iconography and much more with the metal. As time went on the metal became less practical for tool production and took on a more ornamental purpose.
The ancient axes pictured above are located in the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM).

Ore Creepers
this idea of creepers made out of ore kind of kicked in my brain- the way they would work is sort of similar to the classic elemental creepers mod, where they explode psychically but they turn stone/deepslate/netherrack/endstone into the ore they were made out of and killing them gives you some of the ore that they're made of. i'd love to ultimately expand this idea into modded ores

pls not another bug-themed ancient, be a gecko instead little one lol
#this one looks like it may be a tiny lizard-themed ancient instead of bug which would be better lol#A proper bird or dinosaur themed ancient would be great... or one that's very reptillian or mammalian#I like aethers and veilspun (which are more fairy than bug like how dusthides have a buggy tail) but pls#auraboas are serpent-themed and undertides also but more fish/sea dragon themed - and sandsurges kinda have a dnd copper dragon thing#lokenosse talks#flight rising

Jamacoaque Copper Nose Ornaments
These items are unique and seldom exhibited. They are made of solid copper and are very heavy. They have an excellent green patina on all three. The largest shows evidence of original gold plating. Manabi region, Ecuador. 500 BC – 500AD. Condition is Choice. The sizes are 25mm wide, 22mm tall, 20mm thick, 68.8g; 22mm wide, 21mm tall, 15mm thick, 33.5g; and 18mm wide, 15mm tall, 8mm thick, 10g.
The Jamacoaque civilization mastered the art of metallurgy and had a thorough knowledge of alloy production, notably a well-developed alloy of copper and arsenic. They were also well-versed in the process of gold plating. The method employed for casting metal was placing it in a ceramic crucible and heating it using wood charcoal as fuel. Air was blown into the kiln with a bamboo tube until the temperature reached 1100ºC, sufficient to melt gold or copper.

“We have once again beaten the sun to rising,” Mhenheli said, nodding to the distant hills as the dawn began to limn them with a thin halo of pure golden light. Paix slipped his arm around Mhenheli’s waist, standing close to him as they watched the sun rise. Far below in the city, the sunrise horn sounded, and the light moved - slow and liquid lazy - across the rooftops, finally touching on the golden wing of the statue, coruscating out from it in brilliant sparkles. Beside him, Mhenheli sighed happily. “I love this moment,” he whispered. “I, too,” Paix murmured in response, his gaze not on the statue but on that beloved old face. “But I love more that I can stand here with you as it happens, and watch how happy it makes you.” Mhenheli turned his head, his lips quirked in a dry smile. “Sentimental,” he chided softly. “Nothing wrong with that.” Paix returned that smile with one of his own. “You should indulge my sentimentality, you know.” Mhenheli snorted indelicately. “Since when have I ever done that?” “Well… now that you mention it…” “Precisely.”
One more commission from the wonderful Sabira | @floweroflaurelin to close out These Stones Remember.
Paix and Mhenheli standing on the covered castle balcony, as they did every morning together, and watching the sun rising over the Ancient Capital of A'lumiya.
I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful illustration to place at the end of the second companion reader (which will be published in the next few days) and close out this story that means so much to me.
Thank you, Sabira, for another truly gorgeous piece of work <3
