As mentioned previously, my partner is nonbinary and they consider themselves as trans-femme. We have been together since we were 15 and 16, and I have been beside them throughout their journey of learning about themselves and their gender. I considered myself queer before meeting them and had dated in the very limited queer circle at our high school that included a few trans men, so it was never something I saw as strange, but rather as something we would have to approach together over time.
The entry "Are You There God? It's Me, Day" made me think a lot about my partner and the trans male friends I had in high school. The fear of communication with new people about gender, and how it can feel (and sometimes be) life or death when you know that the conversation about it is going to be required at some point. Although my partner doesn't experience this through dating, it is something that they think about often when making new friends and visiting family. Just having to sit with this information that is so important to your identity is really difficult, especially when you care about keeping relationships with people who might not understand.
I am glad that the journal entries spanned over so many years, and showed their headspace from pre-transition to two years after. Too many trans lives end too soon, and hearing stories that don't end in tragedy are really encouraging to hear.

being present (in place of the flowers)
Anastasia Rydlevskaya, Daniela Weiss, Edna Baud, Ela Żmich, Gosia Golińska, Grażyna Rigall, Martyna Baranowicz @ Aleja Niepodległości 787, Sopot Nov 26, 2022
In Sopot, there’s a tenement house at the Independence Avenue, built at the beginning of the 20th century, whose owners ran a butcher’s shop on the ground floor for many years. In the Art Nouveau interior, flowers and birds have stayed for the last two years — probably as a tribute to those animals whose meat could once be bought there. The freshness of the goods was guaranteed by cellars so deep that the ice transported to the site in the winter time would chill the bodies for months. The last few years have been chilling with delicate rose petals, chrysanthemums, tulips, and lilies. We will be there, Gosia Golińska & Romuald Demidenko

a couple more artists who were submitted that i don't think qualify or i'm not sure about but would appreciate some feedback from people who might know more about them or have Opinions:
Alexandra Exter - russian? born in białystok, studied in kyiv, painted in russia and france
Fernand Léger - i guess his wife was polish (belariussian?) but apart from this i can't think of any reason he should be in
Elisa Bloch - born in wrocław when it was german, emigrated to france as a kid
Olga Chernysheva - come on, she is just straight up russian????
Ryan Gander - british but the submitted sculpture is exhibited in poland
Theodor Erdmann Kalide - german, lived in the prussian partition, the sculpture submitted is in bytom
Theodore Roszak - born in poznań, emigrated to the US as a kid
Anastasia Rydlevskaya - belarussian, lives and works in gdańsk
Fanny Rabel - born in lublin, emigrated to paris then mexico as a child
additionally:
Paweł Merwart - kinda sorta probably more french than polish but we had him in the previous tournament and also his biography and his work slap so i want him in the tournament
#what have i gotten myself into trying to decide nationalities of 19th century people from kresy or śląsk#ziemia jest globalną wioską etc etc nationalities don't matter#maybe i should make a bracket for these artists only or sth#anyway the general rule was ''if they were educated in poland or under polish artists then its enough''#so if you know sth about the education of these guys im not sure about this should be enough to sway me#imo everyone except leger and chernysheva can go in?
