Libra September Festival of Anant Chaturdashi
By shirleytwofeathers
The Anant Chaturdashi involves praying and seeking the favour of Lord Vishnu by worshipping an image or idol of him reclining on the serpent Sheshnaga (a mythical creature).
The festival of Anant Chaturdashi is a festival of purification celebrated by Jain and Hindus. Because this festival falls on the fourteenth day of the waxing moon period, the dates of the festival vary from year to year. In 2018, the Anant Chaturdashi will fall on September 23rd.
There are important items that are required when worshipping Lord Vishnu. These are: flowers, oil lamps, incense sticks, a paste of sandalwood, vermilion and turmeric. Once these items have been availed, the worshippers can then offer milk, fruits and sweets to the eternal Lord Vishnu.
In parts of Bihar and Eastern UP, the festival is closely linked to Ocean of Milk (kshirsagar) and Lord Vishnu’s Anant Roopa. The ritual is as follows:
Fourteen tilaks (small vertical strips) of vermilion are made on a wooden plank. Fourteen puri (fried wheat bread) and fourteen pua (deep fried sweet wheat bread) are placed on these vermilion strips. A bowl containing Panchamrit (made of Milk, Curd, Jaggery, Honey and Ghee) symbolising kshirsagar (Ocean of Milk) is placed on this wooden plank.
A thread having fourteen knots, symbolising Lord Anant is wrapped on a cucumber and is swirled five times in this “Ocean of Milk”. Later this Anant thread is tied on the right arm above the elbow by men. Women tie this on their left arm.
Anant’s Vow
A thread coloured with turmeric and kumkum, knotted in 14 different places and considered sacred by Hindus/Jains is worn on the right and left wrists of men and women respectively. This Anant thread is removed after fourteen days. It is a visible sign of the vow that is being made on this day, and the following words are chanted by the worshippers while wearing this thread known as Anant Sutra:
“Ananta Sansar Maha Samudre Magnan Samabhyuddhar Vasudeva Ananta Rupey Viniyojitatmamahya Ananta Rupey Namoh Namastute.”
The women of the family fast on this auspicious day while the men make a vow. This vow is to be kept for 14 years, in the hope of gaining wealth, protection and knowledge from Vishnu. Some men also make this vow so as to regain lost wealth.
Worshippers and devotees of the festival wake up at dawn, take a bath and engage in the puja after which they can partake of the milk and fruits. The only caveat is that they have to avoid taking salt during this period.
Lord Ganesha Departs
One may note that Chaturthi is the fourth day of the lunar fortnight, while Chaturdashi is the fourteenth. In the normal course, Anant Chaturdashi falls 12 days after Ganesh Chaturthi.
Anant Chaturdashi is also the last day of the Hindu festival of Ganeshotsav. It is generally the tenth or eleventh day after Ganesh Chaturthi, and all the Ganesh idols brought into homes and communities are immersed in the sea or nearby lakes and rivers.
On this day, people travel to the waterfront with the idols, large and small, dancing and singing in large processions. Lord Ganesha is departed, only to be welcomed the next year with equal excitement.
The story behind this festival:
There was a Brahmin named Sumant. From his wife Diksha he had a daughter named Sushila. After the death of Diksha Sumant married Karkash, who began to give a lot of trouble to Sushila. Sushila married Kaundinya, and both decided to leave the house to avoid the harassment of the step-mother. On the way they stopped near a river.
Kaundinya went to take bath, and Sushila joined a group of women who were performing worship. They told Sushila that they were worshipping “Anant”. “What kind of worship is this?” Sushila asked. “Anant’s Vow”
They told her that it was Anant’s vow. Then they explained to her the importance of that vow. Some fried “Gharga” (made of flour) and “anarase” (special food) are prepared. Half of them have to be given to the Brahmins. A hooded snake (cobra) made of “darbha” (sacred grass) is put in a bamboo basket. Then the snake (“shesh”) is worshipped with scented flowers, oil lamp and incense sticks. Food is offered to the snake and a silk string is kept before the god, and tied to the wrist. This string is called “anant”, it has 14 knots, and is coloured with “Kunkum”. Women tie the “anant” on their left hand and men on their right. The purpose of this vow is to obtain divinity and wealth, and is kept for 14 years.
After listening to this explanation Sushila decided to take the Anant vow. From that day she and her husband Kaundinya began to prosper and became very rich.
One day Kaundinya, noticed the Anant string on Sushila’s left hand. When he heard the story of the Anant vow, he was displeased and maintained that they had become rich, not because of any power of Anant, but because of the wisdom he had acquired by his own efforts. A heated argument followed, and at the end Kaundinya took the Anant string from Sushila’s hand and threw it into the fire.
After this all sorts of calamities happened in their life, and finally they were reduced to extreme poverty. Kaundinya understood that it was the punishment for having dishonoured “Anant”, and decided that he would undergo rigorous penance until God Himself appeared to him.
Kaundinya went into the forest. There he saw a tree full of mangoes, but no one was eating the mangoes. The entire tree was attacked by worms. He asked the tree if he had seen Anant, but got a negative reply. Then Kaundinya saw a cow with her calf, then a bull standing on a field of grass without eating the grass. Then he saw two big lakes joined to each other with their waters mixing with one another. Further he saw a donkey and an elephant. To every one Kaundinya asked about Anant, but no one had even heard this name. Then he became desperate and prepared a rope to hang himself.
Then suddenly an old venerable Brahmin appeared before him. He removed the rope from Kaundinya’s neck and led him into a cave. At first it was very dark. But then a bright light appeared and they reached a big palace. A great assembly of men and women had gathered. The old Brahmin went straight towards the throne.
Then Kaundinya could no longer see the Brahmin, but only Vishnu instead. Kaundinya realized that Vishnu himself had come to save him, and that Vishnu was Anant, the Eternal One. He confessed his sin in failing to recognise the Eternal in the string on Sushila’s hand. Anant promised Kaundinya that if he made the 14-year-vow, he would be free from all his sins, and would obtain wealth, children and happiness.
Anant explained that the mango tree was a Brahmin, who in a previous life had acquired plenty of knowledge, but had not communicated it to anyone. The cow was the earth, which at the beginning had eaten all the seeds of plants. The bull was religion itself. Now he was standing on a field of green grass. The two Lakes were two sisters who loved each other very much, but all their alms were spent on each other only. The donkey was cruelty and anger. Finally the elephant Kaundinya’s pride.

*Have a blessed Anant Chaturdashi* Once, there lived a Brahmin called Sumant. He had a daughter named Sushila who was married to a sage named Kaundinya. One day, while Sushila and Kaundinya were travelling, they stopped by a river as Kaundinya wanted to take bath. Sushila noticed a few women praying on the bank of the river. Out of curiosity, she asked them what they were doing. The women told her that they were worshipping Anant (Lord Vishnu). They also told her about Anant's vow and explained its importance. They told her about the preparation of fried gharga made of flour and a special food called anarase, half of which is given to Brahmins. They also told her about worshipping a hooded snake made of darbha grass placed in a bamboo basket to which food is offered. A silk string is kept before the god and later tied to the wrist. This string called ""Anant"" has 14 knots and is coloured with kumkum. Women tie this string on their left hand while men tie it on their right. The vow is observed for 14 years with the purpose of obtaining divinity and wealth. After listening to the importance of the vow, Sushila decided to follow it. From that day on, Sushila and Kaundinya began to prosper. One day, Kaundinya noticed the string on Sushila's left hand and asked the reason for it. After listening to the story of the Anant vow, he got annoyed and claimed that they had become rich not because of the power of Anant but because of the wisdom he had. The indignant Kaundinya then threw the Anant string into the fire. After this, Sushila and Kaundinya began to face extreme poverty. He understood that it was the punishment for dishonouring Anant, and decided to undergo penance until God himself appeared to him. Kaundinya went into the forest and asked everyone about Anant but in vain. Kaundinya gave up hopes and as soon as he chose to die, an old Brahmin appeared in front of him. He stopped Kaundinya from dying and led him into a cave. To his surprise, they reached a huge palace in a flash of bright light. As the Brahmin walked towards the throne, Kaundinya saw Lord Vishnu in his place. He realised that he had been saved by Lord Vishnu – the eternal one. ☺#MIC✔ツ (at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2TVY0pl4wKlPFAp7KVY6JSyHcT1NgIftI9NRU0/?igshid=1t9jqegp09ig5

DAY 5016
Jalsa, Mumbai Nov 14, 2021 Sun 11:13 PM
❤️ , Tomorrow .. Nov 15th .. is the birthday of Ef Saurabh Anarase from Pune .. Keep well and in good Spirit .. ✨ Love .. 🌹
... and the day passes off with the work needed to be completed by the today, has now shifted to the morrow ; and the regrets are regretted ..
.. reading and going through the details of the NFT and what else can be done with it , has been a fascinating experience and one that could bring greater connect in the times to come ..
... and so one of the recordings of ‘Madhushala’ that has been put out in the domain of the NFT has been given a rousing reception and the text and material of the required poem has undergone some additional information, in from the Preface that Babuji wrote on the first release of the book - that incidentally sold at Rs 1 .. that is right you heard correct , Re 1, one rupee .. but the content of its Preface and the Epilogue are an incredible piece of literary rarity ..
All this has been subjected to the concept of this non fungus content , and in time the results shall be known .. but yes there is a future to the design and a continuity to and of the modus operandi .. and they that have introduced us to the topic of the material and its reflections the World over , are in amazement over the speed with which society has moved adapted and shifted from norm and accepted the reform , that has bludgeoned its way into the lives of the many ..
.. I shall ever be handicapped by the absence of that , which should have been the target of the life I have led .. but in the greatness of the Almighty, He has shown immense fortitude and tolerance to the chapter .. we must now learn to take over from where it has been left over for us , and consider the transition to be as temporary as possible, because life is an uncertainty .. for all ..
my greetings and love ..

DAY 3521(i)
Jalsa, Mumbai Nov 14/15, 2017 Tue/Wed 1:35 AM
Birthday Ef - Saurabh Anarase AB Ef Wed, November 15 ... greetings on your birthday Saurabh .. love and best wishes ..
They are my friends .. my known .. my acquaintances .. close and dependable .. so what if they drift .. so what if their ability to strike differences becomes prominent .. they shall still remain what they were set out to be .. friends ..
So what if they refute .. so what if they antagonise .. so what if they become instruments of hate .. it shall not change my attitude .. why should it ..? they have deployed such acumen to construct the hatred that they are worse of than me .. and why must there be speculation on what went and came within walls of secrecy and confidentiality .. what ??
At times the what has no answer whatsoever .. at times the answers are invariably laden with more and greater hatred .. hatred is common , alive and relinquishing responsibilities, and filled with the correctness of pride ..
When one has done and done it right .. right requires no justification .. if the adverse, then too the need for the ‘other’ shall never end ..
SO .. there is the desire and need to find out .. take pot shots at us and highlight some other .. success may arrive .. but could arrive with baggage that is indestructibly beautiful .. to me all such are beautiful .. but to you .. there shall be answers ..
tell me ..

Chaklis, Chiwda to Anarase What Goes Into Making the Perfect Maharashtrian Faral For Diwali?
No matter, you are an Indian or foreigner. Festivals of India will always grab your attention and encourage you to celebrate it. One such most loving, most celebrated festival is Diwali (also called Dipawali).
Diwali - A festival of lights, enjoyment, and togetherness is celebrated with lots of love, crackers, and sweets, faral all over the world and especially in India. This day is celebrated as "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
This festival begins with Dhanteras where celebrants prepare by cleaning their homes and making decorations on the floor, such as rangoli and making of faral begins. The second day is Naraka Chaturdashi while the third day is for Lakshmi Puja and the darkest night of the traditional month.
But the best part of this is eating different sweet and savoury dishes, offering the same to our visitors and relatives, and enjoying the togetherness.
And I know it's even your favorite part of this day. It's even expected. As none of us will leave the chance to eat huge varieties of snacks which includes sweet, savoury, spicy items. Woooh it's mouth-watering just by thinking, doesn’t it?
Significance of faral
Faral, where households usually prepare or arrange thalis or specialty dishes and circulate these amongst close friends and relatives as a sign of goodwill. What sets this custom apart is that it is practiced by households of almost every sect and religion, unlike some religion-specific rituals related to Diwali.
Different types of faral are made in different households. The highlights of the faral are various types of ladoos, the crescent-shaped karanjis, flaky ghee-soaked shankarpale, crunchy chivda, hot chaklis, sweet, flaky chirote dusted with icing sugar.
The idea of faral is to store an assortment of snacks with longer shelf life, which could then be distributed to neighbors or guests who visit during Diwali. Most of these snacks are popular all through the year, but during Diwali, they are made all at once in huge amounts to devour at any given instant.
Can't wait to get to dive deep for this famous FARAL ITEMS!
> Chivda
> Chakli
> Bakarwadi
> Karanji
> Shankarpali
> Kadboli
> Besan Ladoo
Chivda
It is one of the most demanding, quick, and healthy items of Diwali faral. The core ingredients in this are flattened rice (Chivda). However, this chivda can be made in different styles which include Poha Chivda, Nashikche Chivda, Thick Poha Chivda, Fried Chivda, etc. This easily digestible form of raw rice is very popular across India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, and is normally used to prepare snacks or light and easy fast food in a variety of Indian cuisine styles, some even for long-term consumption of a week or more.
Chakli
Also known as Murukku in South India, this crispy snack made of rice flour is not only crispy, delicious, and easy but also cracking to look at.
There are different types of chaklis can be made ranging from spicy to non-spicy chakli, healthy (made with ingredients like pulses and multi-grains variants ) to deep-fried chaklis, rice flour to whole wheat chaklis. In Maharashtra, Bhajani Chaki is very famous.
Bakarwadi
It is one of the most loved Diwali Faral items in Maharashtra but it is originated in Gujarat. So it's actually Gujrati farshaan. This deep-fried disc of dough, stuffed with a wealth of spices - it unites the gentle sweetness of dried coconut, and the musty, warming flavors of poppy and sesame seeds plus, cumin seeds, with the tang of dried, powdered mango, and the potency of chili is an ideal snack item with a chai.
Karanji
These are dumplings stuffed with dry coconut and sugar, deep-fried or baked. Today, this basic stuffing has been replaced by unique stuffing such as dried fruits, figs, etc. They are perfect to eat with a hot cup of tea any time of the day. Most communities have a Variant of this recipe and are known in Gujarat as Gujiya and Karchikkai in Karnataka.
Shankarpali
Shankarpali also is known as shakkarpara, characterised by its diamond shape. Sweet Shankarpali made up of sugar, ghee butter, milk, Maida flour, salt, and semolina.
It's another version called 'Tikat shakkarpara' or ‘Salty shakkarpara’ is a savoury, spicy dish. The only difference in this is it uses a lot of spices to make it spicy and savoury. But I really love this version of Shankarpali.
Kadboli
Kadboli or Chegodilu is a very popular traditional Indian savory snack especially prepared during festivals or served as a tea-time snack. Kadboli, typically is a mixture of rice flour, salt, ajwain, cumin seeds, chilli powder, turmeric powder, all mixed together, and rolled into rings and air-fried until done and crisp.
Besan Ladoo
Festivals are incomplete without sweets and in India, festivals are incomplete without ladoos. Ladoo, an Indian sweet can be made using various ingredients and is round in shape. Besan Ladoo is a round dessert ball made with gram flour which is called besan in Hindi and hence the name. We make ladoos out of so many ingredients, there’s motichoor ladoo, aata ladoo, coconut ladoo, rava ladoo, this ladoo, that ladoo, and this list is endless. Out of all these amazing ladoos, besan ladoo is my absolute favorite.
Conclusion
Diwali being the auspicious occasion, Diwali faral always plays an important role in our enjoyment. And that's why here I had some of an important significance of faral in Diwali and most Popular items. However, if you don't know how to make it or are beginners in this, you can still taste all these.
RMC FOODS delivers you hygienically prepared, made with Love and Care to provide you the best taste of each Diwali Faral item. You will get hassle-free Diwali faral with free delivery in Pune.
By the way, what's your favorite Diwali faral item list?
