The Glitz Blitz was a horrible idea that Viv refused to participate in. He wouldn’t watch. He tore down the posters that were stuck against the side of his peach cart. The local cafe that Vivansh liked to frequent for pastries only spoke of the contestants. So he stopped visiting. The last time…the last sacrifices…they were still too fresh in his mind. And then whispers of Elia’s name drift their way into his orchard. Like a bloodhound, Viv drops everything and stalks his way to the source of the rumors - the arena on Whale Island itself. How could Elia have been entered? He doesn’t believe she had done so of her own volition. Just after he takes his seat does Elia appear on stage. Screams ensure, blood splatters — good goddess, what had she become? He wants to look away. He can’t look anywhere else. Eyes blink, and Elia has vanished from the playing field. Where had she gone? Where had they taken her? Unable to stand the sight of the arena for another minute, Vivansh turns his back to any further bloodshed. He walks and walks and walks. Mist curls around his ankles, deep in the Wildwoods, when Vivansh finally realizes where he is. How had his legs taken him here? Peace of mind? He’d once begged Peaches to run away with him under that old willow tree - which Vivansh was certain hadn’t aged a day — and unless his eyes deceived him…how could it be that she still stood in that same spot? The breeze blows at her hair, and Vivansh remembers his mistake. It’s Elia now. Not Peaches, or any other name from previous iterations of her life. He doesn’t want to startle her, yet that old heart still softens in his chest. Even without remembering a thing, they were both still drawn to the same haunted grounds. He clears his throat. “I…I understand if you need space,” A cursed blood. No other explanation existed. He couldn’t begin to imagine the thoughts presently running through her mind. “I…I didn’t expect you to be here. I didn’t expect anyone to be here. He loves this time of the day. The sun hasn’t begun setting yet, but purple hues lurk just under the horizon. His skin feels warm - but not to the point where he’s quite sweating. And, given Elia’s presence by his side, it’s a fact that he’s grateful for. This is always the awkward part. When he meets her again. He knows so much about her - her favorite color, the fuzzy blanket that she used to pull tight around her shoulders in the cold, even how she’ll hesitantly look over to him. There’s a desire in the pit of his belly to put his hands on each shoulder and stop Elia right in her tracks. He wishes he could explain everything right then and there, move to the easy part, make up for the decades he’d waited for her to return to him.

Unfortunately, their relationship never worked like that.

So he allows her to look - to steal glances of him - while he leads her to his orchard. Which, truthfully, is her orchard, even if she doesn’t recall that fact yet. “Yes, I grew most of these on my own. I start the seeds inside, and once they’re big enough, I move them out here,” He explains. “When it comes time to harvest them, I’ll hire a few people to help. There’s so many that they’ve grown a tad beyond me but...” When he looks upon the trees, a smile becomes painted on his face. “You could say this is my life’s work. These trees...mean everything to me,” Although he speaks of the trees, Viv’s eyes settle on Elia. “Do you like peaches?” He asks, despite knowing the answer. “There should be some ripe ones. Choose whichever you’d like.”

⸻ Strolling along the tree-lined path, the scent of freshly baked goods lingers in the air. The late afternoon sun casts a warm glow over the countryside, illuminating Elia's delicate features as she fidgets with the strap of her bag. She kept her gaze low, allowing her hair to cover the sides of her face in an effort to hide the warm hues on her cheeks. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she felt a strange magnetism towards the man walking at her side; a connection that both excited and unnerved her. It felt all wrong, standing so close to someone else, when half of her said to run, and the other half begged to stay, even just for five more minutes.

Beneath her locks, she gently shakes her head, like she was telling herself to knock it off. This was absolutely not a date.

Still, as they walked, the stronger her internal battle became. She stole tiny glances at him, inhaled his scent when he strolled a little closer to her side. His words, his gestures, every interaction seemed to hold a weight that defied mere friendship, in a way, it felt like he'd been holding a part of himself back; like he knew something she didn't. As time continued, tension grew like a seed in her gut. She couldn't do the quiet thing, it left too much room in her brain for her to overthink. As they approach the orchard, she slows her pace and admires the lines of blossoming peach trees. "...you really grew all of these on your own?" she marvels and nibbles on the warm chocolate croissant he'd bought her from the bakery, "Sheesh, Vi, I've gotta say...you've got a lot of time on your hands."

AHHH YES OMG HI!

So I left a lot of these non-existent or vague so people can plug in themselves and people they love BUT here’s who I picture 😍

Doc: I don’t really have an actor who fits her so I made this AI thing when I was thinking up the character? But I’ve pictured her as fairly petite (5’2”-5’4” ish?), small but not skinny, rounded but not thicc. Basically just the personification of softness and femininity. She’s got a lot of hair that’s wavy/curly that gets out of control easily and her personal style is the thrift shop version of Jess from New Girl. She looks like someone the apocalypse will chew up and spit out.

Andrew: my sweet baby angel! When we first meet him, he is 110% Lucas from Stranger Things. Fairly baby faced but brave in the face of it all - and still able to find happiness and joy. By the time Doc leaves the QZ, I’m kind of leaning Donald Glover? Someone mentioned they cast him as Andrew Garfield and I kinda love that too lol

Jess: Our third member of the codependency squad (who was honestly way understanding of her boyfriend/husband’s weird attachment and we love her for it) and resident comedian is, in my head, Doctor Who era Karen Gillan. Red hair, vibe of sass and strength but also naïveté (and so pretty that we can’t blame Andrew for gawking at her for months) we love her.

Derek: the good guy who might have been if it weren’t for trauma and Joel! He’s 40 year old James Marsden. Just… *chef’s kiss* Look between him, Joel and Tommy? Doc can PULL. Someone said they cast Oscar Isaac here and look… Oscar is like maybe the one man I might find more attractive than Pedro, it depends on the day BUT I cannot cast him as anything but a leading man. Oscar and Pedro can only be end game in my book (but I will accept any and all HC castings lol)

Kristen: Our favorite, competent as HELL trauma nurse! I pictured her as being unexpectedly feisty coming from a small, pretty, blonde package. Does she seem like someone you’d underestimate? Poor choice on your part but that’s her. Malin Akerman is who she is for me!

Marta: our tough still figuring it out assistant turned expert nurse! I wanted someone sweet but strong who could be both naive and brilliant, so Ana de Armas it is! Only realized just now that her name in Knives Out is also Marta lol I FORGOT THAT BUT OH WELL!

Elias: Our stalwart dogooder under the umbrella of FEDRA turned exhausted man trying to keep people alive, Elias is a kind hearted leader trying to do the best he can with what very little he has. His caring and drive I think are exemplified in Jimmy Smits - especially West Wing era Jimmy Smits at the beginning of the fic.

I saw mentopolis and I enjoy it VERY much. All the characters and players are so fun and creative and I love the setting, so I can't wait for next thursday

Spoilers under the cut!

My favorite characters so far are probably Conrad and the Fix, but everyone in the cast is just instantly endearing.

Anastasia and Imelda are great contrasting characters and I want to know more about their family drama! About how Ana wants to climb the ladder and how Imelda is fine with being at the top of it from the start!

Daniel Phucks being instantly ready to throw down or seduce a cop is great, Hunch Curio is the Himbo PI we all need in our lives.

The thing that struck me like, ten minutes ago is that the Fix funds the Wayward Interests orphanage- and he does want to see all the kids grow up to become parts of the Big Guy. Conrad USED to live at the orphanage, but something happened- something Madame Loathing explicitly doesn't want to tell Fix about- and he ran away with Justin and some ice skates.

The kids at the home are almost all explicitly object heads, usually relating to their represented special interest. Conrad isn't an object head, and neither is Ronnie, but the other kids are described as having a train for a head, a deck of cards, etc.

So the thing that's odd is WHY Conrad would leave. What was that inciting incident? It likely wasn't the file- that's a fairly recent development, and the Home holds old childhood interests, mostly.

We are given one strange piece of information- Conrad leaves, with seemingly no reason, a pair of ice skates, and Justin Fication.

What justified the conscience finally leaving loathing? I think it was the death of one of the big guy's special interests. Finally completely giving up on a childhood dream to focus on other things.

I think Madame Loathing killed one of her charges- whether on purpose or through negligence, I'm not sure- and Conrad saw it. He knew it was wrong.

So he took what remained of the body and ran, spurred on by Justin.

This is a really long way of saying 'I think Elias wanted to be an ice skater for a long time but self-loathing killed that dream and his conscience wouldn't let him completely forget something he loved'.
