Callum Booth bounces back to lead Sea Dogs into Memorial Cup semifinal

WINDSOR, Ont. -- The Saint John Sea Dogs' season was on the line and they needed more from Callum Booth after a blow out by the Erie Otters only 24 hours earlier.

Booth delivered.

The 20-year-old goaltender made 31 saves and Joe Veleno had two goals and an assist as Saint John downed the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-0 on Tuesday to advance to the Memorial Cup semifinal.

Only a night earlier Booth gave up five goals on 14 shots and found himself on the bench watching his team drop a 12-5 decision against the Erie Otters. He entered Tuesday's tilt with a 5.46 goals-against average and a .784 save percentage in two tournament starts.

"Yesterday was a really hard game personally," said Booth. "It's definitely not easy, I wasn't up to my standard I hold myself to.

"It's easy to say you just forget about it, but there's always something hanging in your mind. So the fact my defenceman let me see the puck and get a feel for it helped."

Saint John will face the loser of the last round-robin game between the host Windsor Spitfires (2-0) and the Ontario Hockey League champion Otters (2-0). The winner of the all-OHL matchup earns a direct route to the championship game on Sunday.

The Sea Dogs opened the Memorial Cup with a 3-2 loss to Windsor before their drubbing against Erie.

"They're two big challenges and they showed us that," said Booth. "We did struggle, but we showed tonight we can compete."

The season is over for the Western Hockey League champion Thunderbirds after going 0-3 at the tournament. They scored just three goals and gave up 18.

"You're gonna have your ups and downs in life and that's part of it," said Seattle coach Steve Konowalchuk. "Understand what you're feeling, it's not good, but it can make you better."

Chase Stewart, Mathieu Joseph, Spencer Smallman, Cole Reginato and Bokondji Imama supplied the rest of the offence for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Sea Dogs (1-2). Imama tacked on two assists for a three-point outing.

Seattle's Carl Stankowski gave up four goals on 14 shots before getting yanked for the second straight game of the tournament for Rylan Toth, who made 11 saves in relief.

Some 4-on-4 hockey led to Booth having to bail out his team, stopping Scott Eansor on a breakaway after a turnover by Veleno just outside the Saint John blue line to keep it scoreless after 20 minutes.

Veleno put his team on the board first, 1:14 into the second period, snapping a shot from between the top of the circles low glove side on Stankowski after Seattle turned the puck over on the sideboards.

"It could have been anyone," Veleno said about scoring first. "It led to a couple more, we started getting momentum."

Thunderbirds captain Mathew Barzal blocked a shot with the back of his left leg that left him slow to get up, but he was out for his next shift and nearly scored with a wrist shot Booth had to kick out.

Seattle had the better scoring chances in the first half of the second, but Booth was perfect on the 20 shots he faced in the game's first 30 minutes.

Booth's play proved to be big as it allowed Saint John to take a 4-0 lead with three goals in a 53-second span.

"Callum's been good for us all year, tonight he was great," said Veleno.

Stewart scored on a pass from Jakub Zboril at 14:04, and Joseph snapped it blocker side on Stankowski before the P.A. announcer had a chance to call Stewart's goal just 15 seconds later.

Smallman ended Stankowski's night with 4:03 to play in the second, putting a backhand past the helpless keeper.

"The wheels fell off real quick when they scored that second goal," said Konowalchuk.

The goalie change didn't spark Seattle, though, as Reginato and Imama added goals only 44 seconds apart to make it 6-0 through two periods.

"It's fun as a goalie when your team can score six goals in a period, takes some pressure off," said Booth.

Just after killing off a Sea Dogs power play, Veleno made it 7-0 seven minutes into the third with he second of the night.

Saint John will have Thursday off, with the semifinal going Friday.

"Game like this gave us a lot of confidence, semifinals coming up and we're going to do everything we can for that game," said Veleno.

At the scene the policewoman told me I was at fault, but when I talked to my claims adjuster, she told me that there is some negligence on the other party's part because if I had just randomly pulled out into traffic, the other party would have hit the front of my car, not the driver-side door. I am being sued by the first person and I found out just now I am being sued by the person in the second accident as well. I was told that since I am registered under my parents insurance, the other party can see that they have a lot of assets they can sue for from my parents. My question is, why are they able to sue me so easily? I've done research, and I know Florida is a no-fault state, meaning drivers cannot sue each other unless serious injury occurred, such as loss of life, limb, permanent injury, etc. In both accidents, I did not get ticketed, and I believe no police report was written, only exchanges of information.(Police were called, however. I did not leave the scene) Also both of the other parties did not ask for an ambulance or medical assistance(I know about the feeling pain later thing) but I'm sure if someone was suing for something as serious that can be listed as loss of limb or death, they would have showed some indication of injury at the scene. I have not agreed to pay this amount because it was a no fault zone and I don't feel I should pay for it. She should not have been going that fast in a busy parking lot with a car full of kids. Her insurance company is also threatening to have my license suspended if I do not pay the amount specified. I did not think that they, as a private company, had the power to have that happen. OK, so I got my car insurance renewal to start on 16 May, and it went up from 40 a month to 60, for no gosh darned reason. Grrr. I know that the insurance has gone up a lot, and I think they blame the compensation claims for this, but up a THIRD! Jeeeeeez! Last year, it went up from 35 a month to 50 and I had a whinge down the phone at them, and they reduced it to 40 by changing the recovery a bit (I don't get help now unless I am more than a mile from home; but the chances are I would be when I broke down anyway, and even if I was half a mile away, I could walk back!) so I agreed to change that. So I rang them today and they said they can lower it a fiver because I am a 'loyal' customer, (so down to 55 a month.) Big deal! I am nearly 40, I passed my test 20 years ago, and I have been with them 10 years and NEVER made a claim, and yet they bump my premium by a third! I am like It's a LOT of dosh. Does this seem like a ludicrous leap to you? Has yours gone up a lot too? Does this sound like a high amount to pay? (55 to 60 a month.) Or reasonable for a 38 year old woman? It does include recovery in this quote, and the recovery is about 130. But 2 years ago, I was paying 35, and this year they are asking for 60 a month! I do like this insurance company and have my home insurance and pet insurance with them too, and don't want to leave, but a jump of a third!""

We are very excited to announce our outstanding hires to the teaching staff for the fall. We have 20 new staff arriving at Concordia on August 1. This includes 8 singles, 5 couples, and 6 families. There will also be 4 spouses who are certified teachers who will be available for substitute teaching. This group brings a wealth of knowledge from other international schools around the world—including China, Thailand, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Panama, Australia, Korea, Tanzania, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Dubai, South Africa, Japan, Mexico, India, Egypt, and Russia.The academic background and experience of this group continues to affirm Concordia's reputation as a destination school for teachers worldwide. We have added support to our aquatics program with the hire of an Assistant Director of Athletics for Aquatics

Two additional teachers have been hired to support continued growth in our ES at Grade 1 and Grade 4

We have hired for two additional positions that will support experiential learning and counseling

While it is always difficult to say goodbye to staff who leave at the end each year, the school is committed to providing outstanding faculty to work in partnership with our parents to provide an exceptional experience for students at Concordia. This year we have screened 1000s of inquiries and over 650 applications to identify just over 100 candidates to interview for the 20 positions that were hired.

This weekend is the conclusion of the middle school basketball season as they will compete in the Cross River Event (CRE). Concordia will be hosting 30 C1 girl and boy teams this Saturday. The C2 boys are traveling to SAS PX. C2 Girls are traveling to Suzhou. JR girls are at BISS PX and the JR boys are at SAS PD. Good luck to all of our kids.On Saturday four of our high school track athletes will be competing at the professional Diamond League Track Meet at the Shanghai Stadium. Last Saturday, Luke English, Nick Abouchedid, Langa Nindie, and Chandler Mathews qualified third out of 120 teams in Distance Medley Relay to be eligible to run on Saturday evening at the professional meet. Their race will start at 5:30pm. Hope you can make it downtown to watch our athletes run, but also to watch the professional athletes, many of which ran in the Rio Olympics.

Reminders

» Carrying Copies of Passport and Visa

We have been informed by Public Security Bureau that policemen are being sent to different locations like supermarkets or streets to check people's passport and visa. We would like to remind our community that carrying a copy of your passport and visa in your wallet is recommended so you are fine if you are checked. Please note that the policemen will show you their working ID when they stop you. If they don't, please ask. If you forget to carry the two copies, they could take you back to their office. In this case, we suggest you contact your employer who can confirm your passport and visa information. They may also stop unaccompanied students so I would recommend that you review this procedure with them as well.

» New Residence Permits, Work Permits or Passports?

Whenever you or your family members receive new residence permits, work permits and/or passports, please be sure to send copies of your new documents to the Admissions office, in the Welcome Center (1st floor High School). Or, email soft copies to Admissions. Keeping your children's files up to date helps us keep in compliance with Chinese governmental regulations.

» No Bicycles for Children Under Age 12 on Public Streets - Shanghai International Schools Association (SISA)

The following information regarding bicycle riding in Shanghai is shared in an attempt to be helpful to all its member schools. For safety purposes, the regulations in Shanghai allow for bicycles to be ridden on public streets only by children age 12 and above. This regulation is strictly enforced in Puxi, but is unevenly applied in Pudong. The immediate danger is that families may assume that local protections for bicycle riders may be the same as in their own country, but they are not. It is important to be aware that if a child under 12 is involved in any kind of accident on a public street or crossing, the parent may be held responsible. Sidewalks and bicycle paths along public roads are considered part of the public roads. In addition, as accident insurance is relatively new to China and there are not many precedents with these situations, your own accident or medical insurance company has the right to refuse cover in the event of violation of the local law. We hope that better understanding will result in better safety for younger children.

Adam Huska, Lewis Zerter-Gossage Return from Maine of ECHL BY: Bob Crawford, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, January 26, 2020: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Chris Drury announced today that the parent New York Rangers have reassigned goaltender Adam Huska to the Wolf Pack from its ECHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners and that the Wolf Pack has recalled forward to Lewis Zerter-Gossage from the Mariners. Both players had joined the Mariners on Tuesday. Huska has played 20 games with the Wolf Pack this season, going 8-5-5 with a 2.96 goals-against average and an 89.7% save percentage. The seventh-round selection (184th overall) by the Rangers in 2015 appeared in two games with Maine, going 1-1-0 with three goals-against on 71 shots (1.53 goals-against average, 95.8% save percentage). That included a 43-save performance in his ECHL debut Friday night, an 8-1 home win over the Worcester Railers. Zerter-Gossage has two goals and one assist for three points in 23 games with the Wolf Pack. He scored one goal, his first career ECHL tally Friday night, in two games in his latest stint with Maine, and has totaled four points and four penalty minutes in eight ECHL contests on the season. Zerter-Gossage was signed to an AHL contract by the Wolf Pack on April 17, 2019. The Wolf Pack returns from the All-Star break with a home game this Friday, January 31 vs. the Springfield Thunderbirds. CANTLON: (FRI) WOLF PACK LIMP HOME

BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - When last seen, the Hartford Wolf Pack (16-7-2-5) were riding-high on a five-game winning streak, but that came to a crashing halt as the team came off two of their worst performances of the season in Charlotte against the Checkers as part of a three-game road trip. They started off by losing the back-end of a home-and-home with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last Saturday. “We played good enough in Lehigh Valley, but in Charlotte we weren’t really ready to play in the first period. They really took it to us. We played better later, but too little, too late, to make a difference in the outcome,” remarked Pack head coach Kris Knoblauch who was keeping an even keel about the performance. Charlotte has been like a graveyard for Wolf Pack teams the past few years. They are winless in the Queen city at 0-12-0-0. Besides getting outscored 13-4 over two games, for the first time in the AHL franchises' 1,624 games, as either the Wolf Pack or CT Whale, the team's two goalies were lifted in back-to-back games. Were Igor Shesterkin and Adam Huska the sole reasons for the losses? No, but they had plenty of company. For the first time though the two of them looked mortal between the pipes. Shesterkin, who held the AHL's best Goals-Against-Average entering the two games, is now is fifth at 2.14. He was lifted after surrendering goals after facing 19 shots in the first period alone. Huska was fine in relief with 19 saves on Tuesday night in a 6-3 loss. “To be honest, pulling them was more because of not wanting to leave them in the way the team was playing… not very well in front of them. Igor and Adam have been so good for us all year, and I don’t think there's a coach in the league after thirty games that could say they weren’t at their best. They’ve been exceptional. It was the first two games they haven’t been. We still trust our goaltenders very much,” Knoblauch stated. Then, in a 7-1 thrashing, Huska was pulled after the second period with just 10 saves and a trailing 4-0. Shesterkin fared no better surrendering three more goals. “Honestly, we had a good streak. We won five and now we lost three. Sometimes it happens,” said Phil Di Giuseppe, “Now we have had some success against Providence, hopefully they played Wednesday, and tonight we can take advantage of that." He'll get the call tomorrow against the P-Bruins, who hold first place, two points ahead of Hartford (41-39). They lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 1-0. Knoblauch was self-critical as well stating, “The coaching staff has to get better too, and address things and trends a little earlier.” This was also the first time this season the Wolf Pack looked like the team of the last two years. At times they were undisciplined, disinterested, and not playing as a five-man unit. “We're going to have to play a lot better all throughout the lineup than the last two games. Providence is in first place." The Pack played as if they were already on Christmas break and will be after Saturday’s game. “We're in the middle of (the season) now and everybody else in the league is in the same position. It’s still no excuse for the way we played. Hopefully, we can get things off on the right foot for the New Year. Everybody has got each other’s back and we're looking forward to it. We’ve had a lot of changes lately, but that’s pro hockey these days.” said Di Giuseppe. NOTES: After ten games and no points, the Wolf Pack reassigned Ryan Dmowski (Old Lyme/Gunnery Prep) back to their ECHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners. Jansen Harkins, the son of ex-Hartford Whaler Todd Harkins, has 31 points in 30 games with the Manitoba Moose. He was recalled by the Winnipeg Jets. He was a scratch in Thursday’s game in Winnipeg against Chicago. Scott Morrow (Darien) who plays at Shattuck’s St. Mary’s (MNPREP) has committed to North Dakota (NCHC) for 2021-22. The Canadian-entry for the Christmas-time, European six-team, Spengler Cup Tournament in Davos, Switzerland has some familiar names. The GM is ex-Whaler, Sean Burke. The head coach is former New York Ranger, Craig MacTavish. His assistant coach is ex-Whaler (in spirit only), Paul Coffey. On the ice will be ex-Pack, Adam Tambellini, as well as ex-Sound Tigers, Andrew MacDonald, and Dustin Jeffrey, as well as former Quinnipiac Bobcat, Justin Danforth, and former Ranger Josh Jooris, and ex-Ranger and Sound Tiger, David Desharnais all lacing them up. HC Davos features a trio of ex-Pack players. They're led by captain Andres Ambuhl, Danny Kristo, and Casey Wellman. HC Ocelari Trinec (Czech Republic) has ex-Pack/CT Whale, Tomas Kundratek, David Musil, the nephew of former Whaler and Ranger, Robert (Bobby) Holik, and goalie Nick Malik, the son of ex-Whaler, Beast of New Haven, and Ranger, Marek Malik. TPS Turku (Finland) features as their captain, ex-Pack, and Ranger, Lauri Korpikoski, and from HC Ambri-Piotta (Switzerland), Brian Flynn (Pomfret School). Former UConn Husky, Philip Nyberg, after having contract dissolved by Mora IK (Sweden - SHL) signs for the rest of the season with Lindloven IF (Sweden Division-1). Ex-Sound Tiger goalie, C.J. Motte, goes from HC Innsbruck to Coventry Blaze (England - EIHL). Ex-Sound Tiger, Robert Nilsson officially retires as a result of concussion issues from ZSC Zurich Lions (Switzerland - LNA) and a ceremony will be held January 18th. Ex-Pack, Ryan Haggerty was dealt by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Florida Panthers for Kevin Roy in a minor league swap as Haggerty heads to the Springfield Thunderbirds and Roy to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Haggerty scored the game winner in his first game a Thunderbird. Springfield also did some additional holiday house cleaning sending Blaine Byron to Ontario for future considerations. One of the few AHL coast-to-coast trades since the Pacific Division was created. After the break, the Wolf Pack play the Bridgeport Sound Tigers who have had two lineup additions. Robert Carpenter, the son of former NHL'er, Bobby Carpenter, and brother to Team USA's forward, Alex Carpenter, has recovered from a preseason injury. Returning from his Islanders imposed exile in Toronto is truculent forward, Josh Ho-Sang. He demanded a trade at the end of training camp and has been working out at the University of Toronto and was shaken the team hasn't traded him. The US WJC camp is in full swing in Plymouth, MI. Leading the charge is goalie and Darien-native, Spencer Knight (Boston College/Florida). He is being joined by fellow former Avon Old Farms Winged Beaver, Trevor Zegras (Boston University/Anaheim). Also on the roster is Christian Krygier (Michigan State Big 10/NY Islanders), the son of former Whaler/Nighthawk/UConn player, Todd Krygier) and K’Andre Miller (Wisconsin Big 10), the Rangers first-round pick (22nd overall) in 2018. Mattias Samuelsson (Western Michigan - NCHC/Buffalo), the son of former Nighthawk, and Ranger, Kjell Samuelsson, Jack Drury (Harvard - ECACHL/Carolina), the son of former Whaler, Ted Drury and the nephew of current Wolf Pack GM, Chris Drury. Shane Pinto (Selects Academy at South Kent Prep/North Dakota - NCHC/Ottawa) and the Islanders sent current Sound Tiger forward, Oliver Wahlstrom over. The USA team is in the Czech Republic and the final team will be announced on Christmas Eve Day. Ironically or not, the Islanders didn’t send Noah Dobson to the Canadian team. Peter Dilaberatore (Quinnipiac University) and Barrett Hayton (Arizona-NHL), the son of former New Haven Nighthawk, Brian Hayton, are with Team Canada. Team Sweden has two Ranger prospects, defenseman Nils Lundkvist, and center Karl Henriksson. The US team will be playing in Group B in Ostrava, Czech Republic and the opening game is against traditional rival, Canada on Boxing Day at 1 PM on the NHL Network. All preliminary and medal games will be shown on the NHL Network. Lastly, sad news during the holiday season. Former Whaler, Scot Kleinendorst, passed away Tuesday from the injuries suffered at a mill plant in his hometown of Grand Rapids, MN. The family took him off life support as a result of the extensive nature of his injuries. Kleinendorst played in the NHL from 1982-90. He appeared in 281 games for the Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers (53 games two goals and 13 points) and the Washington Capitals. His NHL totals were 12 goals, 58 points, and 452 PM. With the Whalers, he played five seasons (210 games) tallying nine goals and 40 points. He played collegiately at Providence College, then in ECAC, but who are now in Hockey East. He and his brother, Kurt, were both drafted by the Rangers in the 1980 NHL Draft out of PC with Scot going in the fifth round (98th overall) and Kurt was taken in the fourth round before (77th overall). Kurt coached in the AHL with Lowell, Binghamton on two different occasions, Iowa and Belleville. He presently coaches the Nuremberg Tigers (Germany-DEL) that features ex-Pack players Chris Summers, and Chris Brown. Kleinendorst after starring at Grand Rapids High School, where he was first-team All-State defenseman in 1977-78 and part of a Minnesota state championship team in 1976. Read the full article

CRAWFORD: WOLF PACK WEEKLY: December 16-22, 2019

BY: Bob Crawford, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT - The Wolf Pack (16-5-2-5, 39 pts.) finished a stretch of six games in nine days with wins in two of their three games this past week. On Wednesday night at home vs. Binghamton, Tim Gettinger and Nick Jones had a goal and an assist apiece, and Igor Shesterkin stopped 29 out of 30 shots, as the Wolf Pack downed the Devils for a second time in five days, 3-1. Shesterkin was perfect on 26 Lehigh Valley shots on Friday night at the XL Center, for his second shutout of the season, and Jones scored twice, as the Wolf Pack tied a team season high with their fifth straight win, a 4-0 victory over the Phantoms. Lehigh Valley turned the tables, though, in the second half of a home-and-home Saturday night in Allentown, putting an end to the Wolf Pack streak with a 4-2 verdict. Ryan Gropp scored his first AHL goal of the season in that game, and Vinni Lettieri netted his team-leading tenth of the year. For the latest AHL standings, click here. This week: The Wolf Pack make their first trip of the season to Charlotte, NC, taking on the defending Calder Cup-champion Checkers Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Both of those games are 7:00 PM face-offs. Then, the Wolf Pack’s last pre-Christmas action is on home ice Saturday night, as they host the Providence Bruins at 7:00. Tuesday, December 17 at the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina) at Bojangles’ Coliseum, 7:00 PM The Checkers, who won the franchise’s first Calder Cup championship last season, are 11-12-3-0, for 25 points, through 26 games this year. This is the second of eight meetings on the year between the Wolf Pack and Checkers and the first since opening night, October 5, when the Wolf Pack scored a 5-3 victory in Hartford. The Wolf Pack went 1-7-0-0 in 2018-19 against the Checkers and lost all four of their visits to Charlotte, where they are 0-10-0-0 all-time. Charlotte’s leading point-getter is defenseman Jake Bean, who is tied for fourth in the AHL in goals among defensemen, with 5-12-17 in 24 GP. Broadcast – live on-line HERE. The Bruins swept a home-and-home from Springfield last weekend, winning 5-4 in overtime in Springfield Saturday and 5-0 at home on Sunday, to move back into a tie with the Wolf Pack for the Atlantic Division lead. The 18-9-1-2 (39 pts.) Bruins are 9-2-1-0 in their last 12 games. Goaltender Dan Vladar denied all 42 Springfield shots in Providence’s 5-0 victory over the Thunderbirds Sunday in Providence, for his second shutout in seven appearances on the season. He is 4-2-0, with a 1.56 goals-against average and a 94.5% save percentage. At this and every Wolf Pack Friday or Saturday home game, fans are encouraged to come early for “Hockey Happy Hour” in the XL Center’s Coliseum Club. BY: Bob Crawford, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT - The Wolf Pack (23-25-6-3, 55 pts., .482) went 2-0-1-0 in three games this past week, stretching a streak of games with at least a standings point to a season-high six (3-0-3-0). The week began with a 3-2 home win over the Springfield Thunderbirds Friday night, in which Brandon Halverson came within 1:33 of his first career AHL shutout before settling for two goals-against on 21 shots, and Vinni Lettieri had a goal and an assist. The Wolf Pack came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits at home against Providence on Saturday but ultimately fell to the Bruins 3-2 in overtime. Lettieri scored his first career pro shorthanded goal in that game, extending a pro-career-high goal-scoring streak to five games (5-2-7), the longest by a Wolf Pack player this year. Hartford then turned the tables on the P-Bruins in a rematch Sunday in Providence, as Steven Fogarty struck for his first pro hat trick, and a pro-career-high four points and Chris Nell made 29 saves in his first AHL appearance of the season, leading the Wolf Pack to a 4-1 triumph. For the latest AHL standings, click here. This week: The Wolf Pack are back in home-ice action at the XL Center this Wednesday night, as the Hershey Bears come to town for a 7:00 PM game. The Wolf Pack then travel to Springfield for a 7:05 contest on Friday night, before returning home to host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Saturday on “Military Appreciation Night”. Faceoff for that game is 7:30. Wednesday, February 27 vs. the Hershey Bears (Washington) at the XL Center, 7:00 PM At this and every Wolf Pack Wednesday home game of the season, fans can take advantage of the Wolf Pack’s “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack”. A 5-1 Hershey defeat in Bridgeport Sunday was the Bears’ first regulation loss since January 11, snapping a 16-0-0-1 run, the longest streak of consecutive games without a regulation defeat in the Bears’ 81-year history. Hershey enters the week 31-21-0-3 for 65 points and in third place in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of Providence and four points up on Lehigh Valley. Bear netminder Ilya Samsonov, a first-round pick by the parent Washington Capitals in the 2015 NHL Draft, is 9-0-1 in his last ten appearances, with a 1.26 goals-against average, a 94.8% save percentage and two shutouts over that span. This is the third meeting of the season between the Wolf Pack and Bears, and both of the first two have been in Hershey. The Bears won both, 2-1 in a shootout November 4 and 6-3 on December 8. This is a Wolf Pack “Winning Wednesday”. Friday, March 1 at the Springfield Thunderbirds (Florida) at the MassMutual Center, 7:05 PM The Wolf Pack broke a run of three straight losses in head-to-head competition with the Thunderbirds in their 3-2 victory at the XL Center on Friday night. The Thunderbirds have taken both of the previous meetings in Springfield, 6-2 on October 28 and 5-2 February 1. Entering the week, the Wolf Pack and Thunderbirds (22-23-6-5) were tied for seventh place in the Atlantic Division, with 55 points apiece. Springfield is 2-9-0-1 in its last 12 games. Chris Wideman and Dryden Hunt both scored goals for the Thunderbirds in the final 1:33 of Friday night’s game in Hartford, to foil a shutout bid by Brandon Halverson and cut what was a 3-0 Wolf Pack lead to 3-2. The Penguins finished last week four points ahead of the Wolf Pack, and five points out of a playoff spot, in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 26-22-5-2 for 59 points.
