One way to test the central vision to see if there are any changes is to use an Amsler grid. To use this grid make sure you use your glasses and cover one eye. Do this test for each eye separately. Look at the center dot and keep your eye focused. While only looking at the center dot, make sure that all the lines are straight and that the small squares are the same size. Le persone possono notare per la prima volta di soffrire di questa condizione quando guardano alcuni oggetti comuni, come lo schermo del computer o gli infissi di casa Inizialmente descritta nel 1800, la metamorfopsia è stata indicata come uno dei principali e più importanti sintomi precoci di maculopatie miopiche e senili. La metamorfopsia può anche portare alla falsa rappresentazione delle dimensioni o della forma di un oggetto. È principalmente associata alla trazione vitreo-retinica e alla degenerazione maculare. Altre condizioni che possono presentarsi con disturbi di metamorfopsia includono: miopia patologica, presunta sindrome da istoplasmosi oculare, rottura della coroide e coroidite multifocale. Il meccanismo che determina lo sviluppo della metamorfopsia è legato a cambiamenti strutturali nella retina, il tessuto nervoso che riveste la parete interna dell'occhio: lo spostamento degli strati retinici provoca la dislocazione errata della luce sulla retina. #JulEYE is #eyehealth #awarenessmonth! Some months ago, a regular customer suggested I put up the #AmslerGrid on #Facebook to raise awareness on #maculardegeneration. Macular degeneration (MD) is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. It is primarily age-related and referred to as #AgeRelatedMacularDegeneration. The Amsler Grid is used to test for symptoms of MD which can include one or more of the following: - distortion where straight lines appear wavy or bent - dark patches or empty spaces appearing in the centre of your vision Key symptoms may also include: - difficulty in distinguishing faces - difficulty with reading or any activity that requires fine vision - increased need for illumination, sensitivity to glare, decreased night visiob or poor colour sensitivity How to use the Amsler Grid: 1. Do not remove glasses or contact lenses normally used for reading. 2. Hold grid at eye level approximately 33cm away in a well-lit room. 3. Fully cover one eye and focus on the centre dot with the uncovered eye. 4. Repeat with the other eye.
