tumblr, since you're my favorite, you get the only in progress pic i remembered to take of the carving for this piece :)
this block is 2.5"x2.5" unmounted linoleum, printed with an ink pad on mostly regular neon copy paper. like most of my single color pieces, i sketched straight into the block with sharpies/fineliners, tinted it with a stamp pad, and got right to carving! i'm still getting used to the power grip cutters over the speedball ones--theyre sharper but also since the blade is Not just a bent sheet of metal i've been struggling a bit cutting at the right angles. curves are giving me some trouble! but they also cut a lot easier and are better to hold, so it's worth it to get used to them.
i've been accumulating carved blocks, taking casual little prints to conventions and zinefests to trade! so a few people out there in the world have got my first lino prints in distribution.
when i get a chance, i'll do a proper print run, and add them to a shop (which doesn't currently exist but will!)
and, dont tell anyone, but i have a two color print in the works! that one's taking some more planning though.

My shop is now open on Ko-fi! I'm trying to raise funds for--well, living mostly, but also to get me going on making and printing new work again.
Please take a look, follow me on ko-fi for more updates, and please share! This is the first time any of this is available to buy outside of very very limited in person sales.

Do you take commissions for your linocut work? I have a design that I've sketched out, but I'd love to see it brushed up to be high quality (a bit beyond my skill level at the moment). Your linocut work has such a strong and beautiful style! Best!
Hello! Thanks for reaching out! I'm so flattered! I am not currently taking commissions for lino, as in all honesty I'm still relatively new to the medium and want to prioritize my own print work. Appreciate you asking, and I'm so glad you enjoy my work!
#amserpand blogs#i dont even know where id begin on lino commission pricing#and i dont have an adequate printing space#carving blocks though is super fun and highly recommend anyone to just get a couple chunks of lino and go at it#its relatively cheap!

Ambrose, you are a comics artist, why does the ink drawing look like that???
Well, when the ink looks like This....
That bottle's like a decade old. It's followed me from my community college days, which means its flown across the country with me twice and the pigment inside has either congealed rock solid or into a muddy sludge.
But also it does REALLY COOL textural shit that I've been delightedly fucking around with :)
Shit for drawing though. Completely garbage in a dip pen. Doesn't flow and thats even if you can reach it with the nib in the first place.
^^^ This is a different ink that is also nearly a decade old but probably has a better seal on the bottle.
Fuck around!! It's a good time!

Prismacolor pencils and posca markers on kraft paper! I think it's interesting how laying a ground of colored pencil lets the paint markers sit on top a little better.
This little kraft paper pad was one of the first things I was able to pick up again after the mess. Unintimidating and crunchy and different.
Little paintings, some got to the point of just doing a wash of a single color over the brown, just for the sake of making something.

First non fish felt object that I've made!
This piece is felted straight into a little scrap of a flannel shirt I cut up for mending projects, which was kind of awful actually as a felting substrate. But the back is fun and fuzzy!
It's a bit like painting. I know if I wet felted it it'd smooth out a bit more but I've only tried needle felting at this point so it's more accurate to leave it if I'm really focusing on these portraits as a demonstration of the different art forms I actually do.
Everything starts as wool roving, which is loose fibers. Then it gets rolled up into a little ball and stabbed a bunch with the needles until it holds together, and you add layers of dyed roving to kind of color them in and add designs.
I've absolutely lost more blood to this craft than any other.
