Hi little robins, I'm back with the "What do ___ suitors smell like?" series, Ikemen Villains edition. A promise is a promise so, here we have our favourite villanous boys. Eyes as red as his flags that will have you doing exactly what he wants. You can't fix him... He definitely smells intoxicating, almost like tempting you to fall into a dark world of sweet, poisonous sin.

I don't know what else to say about him, I love this man more than I love myself. "Now, give into the darkness of your wicked heart" Whatever you want my dear. I feel like he is the "touch her and you die" type of boyfriend. A real provider. He even BAKES. And likes MAGIC TRICKS. AND HE DANCES!!!! Tell me something he can't do, I'll wait, and if you find something, I'll fight you. Anyways, back to the perfumes. He gives me the vibe of a gentleman with a luxurious and complex scent. I can feel warm, woody and sweet with some spice on top of a soft base.

He is called "The Egotistical Former Doctor" but it seems like those arms are in the middle, because I can't see the "egoistical" part. "He is selfish and has no regard for his own interests", okay, maybe he is a bit egoistical but... "The Queen's Cursed Forces, huh? No better research subjects than that.” We get it boy, you really want to study them so bad, and I volunteer as a tribute. As said, he is a doctor, so he is surrounded by chemicals, medicines and medicinal herbs, so he definitely like that, something aromatic and some spices. Since one of his hobbies is sampling imported beer, I thin we can all agree that he may smell also like alcohol and liqueur. He is manly, and so, he smells manly.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? The Hedonistic Thrill Seeker. Don't let all his eloquent smooth-talking fool you, he has an skilled and scheming tongue. "Greetings, Miss Robin. Would you care to indulge in a dream with me today?" As elusive as a phantom, he prioritises ephemeral pleasures above everything else. Perpetually dishonest, he'll play you for a fool… and with you like a toy… Although he has already seduced me, and probably all the robins reading this, I still feel like there's something wrong with this man. We really know nothing about him, he is presented as seductive and mysterious, but I can feel that's just the surface of the lake, in the depths there seems to be a profound loneliness and sadness. What makes me feel like this is his last name. "Sylvatica" comes from the cientific name for the "forget-me-not" flowers (Myosotis sylvatica). This blue little flowers represents true love. A symbol of fidelity and being truthful to someone you love. So yes, he might be a player, but with lots of issues in his soul, and, beacuse of that, I think he may smell seductive but drained down, with lots of sadness. Like a field of forget-me-not flowera drenched in rain water.

notes: cardamom, blood orange, ginger, elemi; vanilla, benzoin; tobacco, myrrh, incense, cacao, guaiac, patchouli, vetiver, papyrus, oakmoss

Boundless goes on with pleasantly dry spices and then very quickly transitions to the juicy blood orange, with a vaguely funky darkness beneath.

in less than 5 minutes we’ve moved on again, to a very dark, smoky, funky base, maybe the guaiac. There’s still a fruity brightness around the edges; the whole thing feels crisp and punchy and highly legible.

maybe half an hour in, a dry spicy crackle joins the smoky darkness. It’s satisfyingly sharp and dark-gold.

and an hour after applying Boundless, it sweetens several notches and is thereafter a tolerable, if very sugary, spicy tobacco-vanilla situation.

Boundless has a similar quality to Memoir Man, another Karine Vinchon Spehner scent for Amouage that I’ve sampled. They’re both bold, colorful, highly legible masculine scents, entirely satisfactory if you like the main notes (wormwood, sweet tobacco, and incense for Memoir; myrrh and sweet tobacco for Boundless) and yet…if I allow myself a moment of snobbery…a tiny bit dumbed down? Everything is so tidy and crisp, there are no overlapping layers, no textural complexity, no sense of space, not a lot of “emotion”, just blocks of scent-color parading by like stripes on a flag.

Certainly Amouage’s marketing in recent years doesn’t help; it seems to be aiming at finance bros who are making money for the first time and think “luxury” is anything expensive and loud, especially if it comes from a Gulf State.

But let’s be fair: Boundless doesn’t smell bad. The smoke and myrrh phase is vibrant and fun, the drydown is too sweet for me but might be fine to some tastes, and the whole thing manages to stay bright and bold without being the least bit heavy in the summer heat.

Okay, so I did a meme last week on fragrances and I soo wanted to do one for Lucie.n Castl.e so here we GO. Firstly, Freya & Lucien gave us a bit of a hint here scent wise in The Original.s 3x4 with the dialogue

"ugh this place smells like dried blood and bad cologne."

"that's just my natural musk. i find the ladies love it."

and so also going off *vibes* Lucien is hot bad boy that you know will fuck you up but you cannot help yourself. The man drips sex appeal okay. He wears something well formulated, perhaps not as unique as something say Tristan or Elijah would wear, but its very definitive.

Muscs Koublai Khan by Serge Lutens is 1000% hands down my favorite fragrance profile for Lucien if I had to pick one that is him it is this one. Its a chypre fragrance launched in 1998. The fragrance features civet, castroneum, cistus labdanum, ambergris, Morrocan rose, cumin, ambrette seed (musk mallow), costus root and patchouli. It, to me, based on the notes feels full on Lucien. Its animalic-chypre, musky and heady that has that civet note of sexuality and power. That is what Lucien exudes and I think this is my number ONE pick for him (note i also love the 'french labdanum' as a call back to France) and probably his signature scent. Also J'ADORE the bottle- I just so see this bottle on his dresser.

Gold Man by Amouage is a Woody Floral Musk fragrance launched in 1983. Top notes are Lily-of-the-Valley, Rose Hip and Incense; middle notes are Jasmine, Orris Root and Myrrh; base notes are Civet, Musk, Oakmoss, Amber, Sandalwood, Patchouli and Cedar. What I like about this one though is the opening notes of lily, rose and incense because there's this blend of je ne sais quoi with that trio that is so alluring and enticing that suits Lucien so well. The middle notes blend well into the base carrying that 'come hither' mystery into the more animalic base which I love.

Trussardi Uomo by Trussardi is a Leather fragrance launched in 1983. Top notes are Aldehydes, Lavender, Bergamot, Basil, Juniper Berries, Caraway and Marjoram; so THIS one I could see Lucien using as maybe more a date night scent. I love the opening notes of Lavender which is a throwback to his home country, France. The middle notes are Honey, Carnation, Rose, Vetiver, Cedar, Cinnamon and Orris Root which seems almost syrup sweet yet deep almost spicy middle that fades into base notes of Leather, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Musk, Labdanum and Tonka Bean. Its fresh yet alluring beginning hints at fun before the night carries on into dark sweet sinful fun which screams Lucien.

Montecristo by Masque Milano is a Woody Aromatic fragrance launched in 2013. I almost didn't list it because I already have a woody scent, but I really like the make up of this one. The top notes are Ambrette (Musk Mallow), Rum and Cabreuva; which I love the boozy rum note in the opening which is so Lucien. The middle notes are Tobacco, Labdanum, Benzoin and Celery Seeds so you're now melding into the thickness of the tobacco and benzoin with the bite of the celery seeds. The final drydown of this is Hyrax, Styrax, Guaiac Wood, Patchouli and Cedar which is a great woody, slightly animalic that I think softens into a smoother headiness thanks to the patchouli.

Notes: civet, musk, ambrette, amber, labdanum, rose, cumin, patchouli, vanilla

Some people find this way too animalic and claim it stinks like sweat or feces. Noses are different, so I’m not saying they’re wrong, but I actually find this quite delicate.

The opening is a noble, airy floral that is often called “rose” but just smells abstract to me, and golden or champagne in tonality rather than red or pink; dry, aquiline, elegant, rather like the aldehydic “rose” in Amouage Gold. And then there’s a fragment of a rosier, sweeter, rosewater note.

Is there musk underneath? Sure, and it’s got that musty-fuzzy feeling that makes me think of fur coats or Persian carpets. Plus a little bite of sharpness which I think might be civet. With a little time to dry, the fuzziness even gets a hint (though just a tiny hint) of mellow ambery warmth and starts to feel *cuddly*. It lasts all day, and only gets cuddlier, while still subtle and low-key.

To be honest, this feels like subtle, understated feminine elegance, not like a wild hairy horseman. It’s not “classic glamour” elegance like Amouage Gold or the classic Chanel’s, that wears a full face of makeup and a string of pearls; it’s like a beautiful but shy cellist in Paris or New York in the 70’s or 80’s, hurrying to an audition as the snow falls, someone who wears only black but takes her shoes to the cobbler religiously. I guess what I’m saying is that this wouldn’t feel out of place on my *mother*, who was an artist with a rather plain but graceful personal style. (In real life she wore Caleche, which is a very dry aldehydic-woody fragrance. I would swear MKK has aldehydes, though they’re not listed in the notes.)

I think Muscs Koublaï Khan is beautiful. I really hope other people don’t smell poop on me, because I just smell *perfume*, a lovely, subtle, skin-close scent in shades of beige and camel. I suppose it’s unisex — it’s not too overtly floral and it’s certainly not sweet — but the vibe I’m really getting is “a woman who’s too modern and independent to like frills”, rather than a man. For days when you want to smell good, but understated. I’m almost considering getting more of this.
