A moment in Black History! Did you know Dorothy Heights organized the First African American Reunion (a celebration of tradition and values which is still held annually)! Heights an American Administrator and Educator, spent decades working for Racial equality and women’s rights. Heights was the first director of the YWCA’S integration efforts forming the center for racial justice. Heights was the only woman seated on the speakers platform of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr “I Have A Dream “ speech, although she was not ask to speak . Heights co-founded the National Women Political Caucus. Heights served on the boards of several national civic organizations, serving as National president of sorority Delta Sigma Theta. A moment in Black History! Did you Know Before Rosa Park’s, 15yr old Claudette Colvin was arrested for refusing her seat to a white person on the bus? On March 2, 1955 nine months prior to Rosa Park’s arrest Claudette Colvin was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated Montgomery, Alabama bus. Due to Colvin age and becoming pregnant, the NAACP decided not to use Colvin case to challenge the segregation laws. Reeves lived in the Indian Territory, he became a Deputy U.S. Marshall, a master of disguise, and an expert marksman. A moment in Black History! Did you know Sarah Rector received attention at the age of 11 yrs old when the Kansas City Star in 1913, publicized the headline “ Millions to a Negro Girl” . When Rector turned 18, she left Tuskegee and her entire family moved with her to Kansas City, Missouri. Rector now owned stocks and bonds, a boarding house, a bakery and the Busy Bee Café in Muskogee, Oklahoma as well as 2,000 acres of Prime River Bottomland. Sarah was a millionaire.
