I watched the movie yesterday and now I'm absolutely in love with les mis! Sadly, my friends don't, but I'll totally read the book!!!

hi! congratulations! you are now a part of the beautiful garbage that is victor hugo's Lays Miserable. but really, welcome! it's so nice when new people get involved in the fandom or even begin to like the subject matter. i definitely believe that the messages in les mis are still relevant after over 100 years, and they still continue to be revolutionary (well. except for most of the stuff about the sewers and the bishop, but, well).

anyway, absolutely do read the brick! (the brick is what we call the novel because it is legitimately the size of a brick if you get the unabridged version, which is honestly the only version that's really absolutely worth a read.) it's definitely a long haul kind of thing but it's absolutely worth it and in addition to reading about all of your faves, you can definitely learn many valuable Life Lessons and please old vicky from beyond the grave.

You studied ancient greek? Me too! I still have to and I've got a very strong love-hate-relationship with it -.- I like Latin a lot more to be honest

For one year! I didn't take it on to GCSE level (thank god - I did well on the final exam but I think that was a fluke, and apparently the workload for GCSE is horrendous). I found it quite interesting but I was more comfortable with Latin (which I also no longer study). Also I pronounced the vowels in Greek as if they were the vowels in Welsh or Spanish, whereas everyone else in my class used Extremely English Pronunciation (δούλος as 'doo-loss' - what I said sounded more like 'dough-loss' with a short 'o').

also we started the year with a really shit teacher and then when she left midway into the first term we basically had a handful of different teachers filling the gap until the end of the year
