the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Oh oh!!! Paramore’s self titled album

i love this album! one of favorites from Paramore :) it will be hard to pick favorites though :(

favorite track: Proof is my JAM. the way the chorus just!! explodes!! but also Last Hope is really special & i've cried to it multiple times

least favorite track: Be Alone

underrated track: Fast in My Car (Paramore knows how to do an album opener right!!). on the deluxe edition though, Escape Route is so good but unfortunately never really gets much attention. oh and (One of Those) Crazy Girls is such a mood.

overrated track: Still Into You (sorry... i know it's their most popular track but i don't love it personally)

PIANO CONCERTO BY MOZART. CADENZA BY BEETHOVEN.

I will admit, I had this ready to go since I made that post. My choice was obvious from 100 miles away but also it just could not have been anything else in the first place. A legendary combination of my favorite composer and your favorite composer— I can’t come up with a better symbol for our friendship than this. Love you, other half of my brain cell.

What can I say about this piece? Listening to it should say everything you need to know. All three movements are amazing but I chose the first movement here because to me, it really is just so striking. Right from its bombastic orchestral beginning with stormy syncopated strings, this concerto is an astonishing antithesis to the musical zeitgeist of 18th century. The turmoil of it all! Sturm und Drang!

And then. The lonely voice of a piano caught in the winds rings out with all its melancholic clarity and beauty as the eye of the hurricane.

The entire concerto has an impressive emotional arc from its stormy beginning, its passionate and lyrical romanze, and then rippling into a joyous resolution of making it through the storm. It’s really no wonder Beethoven loved this piece, wrote cadenzas for it, and kept it in his repertoire as a concert pianist. And it is also no wonder why this is the Mozart piano concerto that was played through the 19th century.

I chose Maria João Pires’ version because she is my favorite Mozart interpreter (piano). She and the legend that is Claudio Abbado have long collaborated to create incredible Mozart recordings, and this recent live recording is certainly no exception. Then you put in Orchestra Mozart into the equation? How could I not!

Now, for Piano Concerto No. 20, I will always choose Pires over other pianists because of this extraordinary moment when, at a lunch concert in Amsterdam, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, during the first notes of the powerful opening of Piano Concerto No. 20, Pires realized she had learned the wrong concerto. You can see the sheer panic and terror on her face. The regret. The hopelessness. The despair. But Chailly kept on conducting and gave her encouragement. He told her she could do it. He believed she could do it. The anxious and stormy music reflected how she must have felt then, in this live concert, when she surely must have spent time practicing and preparing for a whole different concerto. The time is running out until the piano must come in. You see in the following measures how Pires, feeling that maelstrom of emotions, tries to pull herself together and reaches into her memory for this 36-minute concerto. We come to a stop at the orchestra. You hold your breath and watch her fingers play the first few notes of the piano solo, quiet, a little hesitant, unsure, but they are the right notes. You can see that her playing the first few notes in the recording is a lot surer, though no less delicate and emotive. But my god, it felt like the piano concerto was written for exactly this moment.
