i remember a week ago in which i reblogged a post shedding light on the palestinian genocide and tagged it as “free palestine,” to which someone sent me an ask: “wdym free palestine?”

i deleted the ask because i didn’t want to deal with any trolls at the time on a topic that is highly sensitive. i thought my reblogs spoke for themselves. but then i realized that that was a cowardly thing to do on my part, all because i didn’t want to deal with any online semantics. people are literally undergoing genocide right now. it’s the least i can do.

so let me make my stance abundantly clear: free palestine from the apartheid settler-colonial state of israel, who is committing all kinds of atrocities against the civilian population, 50% of whom are children. the israeli government is cutting off food, water, electricity, and humanitarian aid for the palestinians. they are bombing hospitals, which violates all kinds of human rights laws. they are using white phosphorus on hospitals, which burns to the bone. a child is killed in gaza every 15 minutes. all across twitter, i am seeing the most horrendous, graphic pictures; of dead bodies, of mothers grieving over their dead children; infants who are buried in rubble; men, women, and children who are dismembered. israel dropped over 6000 bombs on gaza in the course of 6 days. six fucking days. then the zionist regime turns around and denies that a genocide is happening.

let me also be clear: the israeli government isn’t the only evil acting force here - all of this is possible by the support and funding it receives from the american and other western governments, who gleefully jumped at the chance to spill blood. all of the hollywood celebrities and organizations who are extending their support to israel and refusing to acknowledge the genocide that Israel is committing, has been committing for 70+ years to occupied palestine. the media that is operating on and fuelling the propaganda that palestinians deserve this form of carnage. all of these heads of states, these governmental bodies, institutions - all of these systems have blood on their hands. no amount of their backtracking now - especially now that they’ve realized that the people’s voices and support are not on their side and it will cost them future elections - can ever make us forget how quickly these racist, white supremacist systems, politicians, and figureheads jumped at the chance of contributing to genocide but a mere a week ago. let us never lose sight that their public words paint a very different picture from what is going on privately; they are still actively funding this genocide with no interest in cease fire.

the media continues to paint this as some type of war against terrorism, a conflict with geopolitics way too complicated to understand, in order to prevent you from doing your own research into it. this is not war. this is not conflict. this is genocide. this is apartheid.

outside of online efforts to raise awareness, i am also planning on joining in on pro-palestine protests that are occurring in my city. from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.

It’s About Class, Not Skin Color

Our nation and its cities continue to burn; rioters are plaguing our nation's streets with unrest; engaging in criminal activity, and claiming that yet again, an innocent black man was shot at the hands of white, racist police officers.

On what appears to be a broken-record sound byte wrapped pretty for Joe Biden and the Democrats, Hollywood and professional athletes around the country are attempting to whitewash the shooting of an innocent, loving, law-abiding, poor black victim of police white-supremacy.

Yet again, Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, with the help of their liberal mainstream media, leave out the details on just who was killed, and why police may have used deadly force against an uncooperative suspect. So, just who is Jacob Blake?

29-year-old Jacob Blake is a suspected criminal. According to the Kenosha News, Blake was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct connected with domestic abuse last month with his ex-girlfriend. These charges stemmed from an event in May in which Blake is accused of stealing a victim's car after sexually assaulting her. An arrest warrant was issued for Blakes arrested on July 6th.

Supporters have said the charges filed against Blake last month should not be used to justify the shooting. According to Blake's family, he is paralyzed from the waist down due to his injuries stemming from the seven gunshot wounds received at the hands of a 7-year veteran of the Kenosha Police Department.

Like with the shooing of other African Americans, liberal democrats and the misrepresentations made by the drive-by media would have the American people believe that white police officers are out for nothing more than black blood. These mischaracterizations are both deceiving, and a deliberate attempt to sweep the socialist movement led by Biden and Kamala Harris under the rug, and somehow paint President Trump at fault for the failed policies of 50-year politicians and soft-on-crime, anti-conservative, Liberal-Democrat local and state legislators.

And who is to blame? Well, according to the Biden and the left, it is white Americans like President Trump, like Mike Pence, and like me and many others listening today. For Democrats, only whites in this country and their relatives over 150 years ago are to blame for America's current situation.

No, no, no, it isn't the fault of personal decisions and the broken family system of America that is to blame for why more minorities in this country commit crimes, it is the fault of Republican lawmakers and those who vote for them as to why young, black men decide to rob stores, sell drugs, and take the lives of members of their race.

The real truth is the hypocrisy of the left and the products that push and help pander their perversion of American democracy is to blame for our country's division. After all, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and members of the DNC and other BLM financiers are the only ones talking about race. To them, everything in this country is a race issue! From buying cars to credit cards, paychecks to courtrooms, the American democratic system has failed each black man, woman, and child in this country.

During this week's RNC, Herschel Walker, the former NFL star, spoke about the American Dream - the promise of how someone like him, a black man, could go from a statistic to a star running back. The U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina also spoke this week at the Republican Convention, and stated in 1 generation; his family went from the cotton fields to the United States Congress.

You see, ladies and gentlemen, Joe Biden and the Democrats don't want to take about the American Dream - the promise of prosperity via hard work and dedication. And why is that? Because for Biden and the Democratic Party, political power is the only thing that matters; the only apparatus that can move mountains for minorities is because, for Biden, minorities are ill-equipped to make the proper life choices to excel and to become successful.

Folks, this should upset every American, but particularly blacks in this country. Joe Biden and Kalama Harris have not and will not help pull African Americans out of despair. Biden has had 50-years to put into action and pull-of change - and yet, when he should blame himself for his failures, the nearly 78-year old lays out his plan as if he just won his first election.

In today's America, it is acceptable for these same whiny athletes under the guise of BLM to call another player a "bitch-ass white boy," and never face ridicule. The left wants to continue to talk about race because it is a safe bet - the sure-fire way to keep our nation divided. Ladies and gentlemen, the issues in America are not about race; they are about class. Those who have it and those who don't.

If we can be forced to say a man is a woman, there is nothing we can’t be forced to say. If a lesbian can be forced to have sex with men, there is nothing we can’t be forced to do. We will all increasingly be pressured to publicly affirm our support for these mores to the point where there will be nothing we can’t be forced to think. And that’s the point. A society whose subjects must not only declare but actually convince themselves that 2+2=5 is a society that is truly totalitarian, regardless of whatever lip service its politicians pay to democracy.

PORTLAND, Oregon, September 10, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — The drag queen who was shown in multiple disturbing photos to have frolicked on the floor with young children crawling over him at a Drag Queen Story Hour blames those children for the backlash he experienced.

LifeSiteNews first brought photo evidence of children having inappropriate contact with drag queen Carla Rossi at Portland, Oregon’s St. John’s Library to the attention of the public in July. The photos, which had been posted on the Multnomah County Library’s own Flickr account in October 2018, were quickly removed after the LifeSiteNews report went viral.

Shortly after LifeSiteNews drew attention to the troubling scene in the Portland library, Rossi’s gleeful tune changed. In a subsequent Instagram post, he said he didn’t so much want to “set the record straight” as “break it altogether.”

“The photographed kids knocked me over and piled on me, and I laughed with them and their parents and the library director and told them we had to get up as I tried to look out for my bad hip in the process,” said Rossi.

The intention of a group called SHFA (Super Happy Fun America) to run a Straight Pride Parade in Boston drew a whopping amount of poisonous attacks from the Left media, both social and mainstream.

The SHFA has been adjudicated as promoting homophobia, which is totally untrue, but at least could be remotely perceived, giving the usual twisted logic from the Left. There are gays among the SHFA members and main figures of the event — Milo Yiannopoulos, a “right-wing” openly gay activist, has been appointed the parade’s grand marshal.

Nevertheless, the “homophobia” tag is not nearly enough. On top of that, the parade organizers have been branded in the mainstream media as “people with connections to white supremacists” (defined as such by the ACLU) and the Alt Right. Apparently, some among SHFA have certain association with the ResistMarxism organization, built with an aspiration to defend our Constitution, our Declaration of Independence, and the economic system based on capitalism (rather than communism or Hitler-style national socialism). That, in the eyes of “progressives,” is a major sin on its own.

Kim Foxx Plays The Race Card To Save Herself From Her Jussie Smollett fiasco

Chicago prosecutor Kim Foxx played the race card in an effort to salvage what remains of her career after she inexplicably protected TV personality Jussie Smollett for, wait for it … playing the race card.

Because it was Smollett who — according to the mayor and the police superintendent and just about everyone else with a brain — played to the worst impulses of racial identity politics in making up a fantastical story in which he was the hero.

His whopper about those Trump supporters telling him that Chicago is MAGA country as they beat him up was exposed when they turned out to be Nigerian bodybuilders and acquaintances who, police said, were paid for their part in Jussie’s theatrics.

At least Smollett got to keep his tuna fish sandwich after his fake fight, and the fake noose.

What does Foxx keep after playing the race card?

Her fake integrity?

As many know by now, Foxx developed epic conflicts of interest for having private communications about the case with a member of the Smollett family and with Tina Tchen, the former chief of staff of Michelle Obama.

At Rainbow/PUSH the other day, Foxx prattled on about how she recused herself because of these conflicts, but that’s nonsense. In reality she did no such thing. Her office admitted her so-called “recusal” was only in “the colloquial sense.”

The Kim Foxx saga is now half farce, half film noir, like an Elmore Leonard novel about Hollywood hustlers and race, with some Tom Wolfe thrown in.

Though Foxx cutting Smollett loose is inexplicable, her use of the race card can be explained by anyone who has spent five minutes studying big city Democratic politics:

The race card is how old-timey politicians say hello.

Foxx didn’t go to just anybody to play that card. She went to old-time race card hustlers, men with Ph.Ds.

Like U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, the South Side Democratic congressman who won re-election years ago by fending off a challenge by a young African-American lawyer named Barack Obama.

Rush’s message about Obama? That Obama wasn’t black enough.

Foxx also sought refuge in the embrace of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who loathed Budweiser (“This Bud’s a Dud!”) until, as if by coincidence, his son received a lucrative Chicago Budweiser beer distributorship.

Jackson’s political star was eclipsed years ago by the election of the late Mayor Harold Washington. And Jackson became famously and angrily upset when the same thing happened with the election of Obama.

Unwittingly speaking into a hot TV news mic during a broadcast break, he said he wouldn’t mind castrating the first African-American president. Foxx might appreciate that Jackson was speaking in the “colloquial” sense.

“I want to cut his nuts out,” Jackson said. “Barack, he is talking down to black people.”

When it comes to talking down to people, black, white, brown, pink or olive, can anyone beat Kim Foxx?

She appeared at Rainbow/PUSH and made it clear she is the victim of her own Jussie Smollett fiasco. The reason is simple: she’s black.

“I have been asking myself for the last two weeks what is this really about,” she said. “As someone who has lived in this city, who came up in the projects of this city to serve as the first African-American woman in this role, it is disheartening to me … that when we get in these positions somehow the goal posts change.”

The goal posts change?

I get it, so this isn’t about you losing your senses and chatting with Obama celebrity friends about Smollett, and later, weirdly cutting Smollett loose even though your office got a 16-count indictment from a Cook County grand jury for faking a hate crime?

Foxx, Rush, Jackson and other Foxx supporters were at Rainbow/PUSH on Saturday to counter demonstrations by the city’s police union, the Fraternal Order of Police, which argued that Foxx should go.

“Let’s be clear,” he said. “Kim Foxx, her battle, is with the FOP and all of their cohorts.”

Kim Foxx said nothing. She was silent. And by her silence she demonstrated consent.

Foxx has issues with the FOP and the FOP has issues with her. These are serious policy arguments: Whether she’s eager to prosecute street crime or whether she’d much rather play social justice warrior and avoid prosecuting what she considers minor offenses.

But playing the race card, after giving Smollett a hug? That’s cheap.

Remember that during the mayoral campaign, Rush said anyone voting for Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot would have the blood of African-American youths killed by the police on their hands.

What does the rest of Chicago and the country see?

They see the old-timers like Bobby Rush and Jesse Jackson desperate to use Foxx to find relevancy in a city that just a few days ago voted overwhelmingly for change from the past.

A city that voted in a landslide for an African-American woman, Lori Lightfoot, a former federal prosecutor and often a critic of police and police policy. And now these political actors are handing her a racial mess.

This isn’t about policy. This is raw racial politics, and everyone involved is playing for their own advantage.

The Dangers of the Crusade Against Russian Subversion

The panic over Russian subversion has been extremely counterproductive for the liberal cause. First, it detracts from the many clearer issues with Donald Trump, from his absurd economic policy to his dangerously short temper. By focusing on the rumor that his campaign was in secret collusion with Russia, we abandon factual issues for a hypothetical that, if the election is any proof, most people don’t care for. Furthermore, by blaming Russian propaganda for Trump’s electoral successes, we ignore the real flaws in the Democratic Party that have driven people to feel like taking a risk on Trump is a reasonable course of action. Finally, the atmosphere of paranoia over Russian subversion and proposed methods of fighting against “fake news” in fact could easily be turned against us, and also increase the risk of nuclear Armageddon.

A year and a half ago, the entrance of Donald Trump into the Republican primary was widely considered to be a bad joke. That peculiar orange man can’t possibly have enough support to be the president, can he? His constant stream of gaffes would certainly cause his campaign to implode, right? And yet, no matter how many “killer blows” were landed against him, he just kept going, destroying establishment candidates that appeared to be shoo-ins. He defied all apparent rules of politics, and came out stronger for it. So, how could this happen?

In the past few decades, the white working class has been devastated by the loss of jobs and economic opportunity. Where once there were thrumming factories and vibrant communities, now those factories lie abandoned, and the communities ripped apart by poverty and drugs. Despite all the cheer about how America’s greater than ever, these people have been left behind.

Instead of trying to protect their livelihoods, or create a social safety net to support them, the liberal elites have instead left the white working class to rot. In many cases, the working class is mocked as a bunch of uncultured rednecks and seen as an enemy of progress. So, of course, the white working class chose to turn towards the establishment Republicans who at least claimed to respect them. When someone came along who not only offered them respect, but also claimed he could bring back order and prosperity, of course they abandoned the establishment. Meanwhile, the DNC broke their own rules in order to push the elite, Wall-Street backed candidate Hillary Clinton over the populist Bernie Sanders, going as far as to launder money meant for down-ticket races to her campaign (Sainato). But with all that support, she only barely managed to squeak out a victory over the formerly barely known Sanders.

Clinton promised the white working classes eight more years of the same devastation. Donald Trump, on the other hand, claimed he could change things. And such, despite being one of the most repulsive candidates in American history, Trump not only was not crushed in a landslide, but managed to squeeze out a win. The areas that Trump managed to gain over John Cain and Mitt Romney were largely those that had defected to the Democrats back during Barack Obama’s Hope and Change campaign in 2008 (Monkovic). Sanders is still one of the most respected public politicians in America, polling far over Trump and Michael Pence (Robbins). But, of course, the establishment cannot admit that their elitist policies enabled Trump’s rise, so the rise of Donald Trump must instead be a result of an insidious Russian plot to destroy America.

Since the summer, there’s been constant shouting over how Trump is a traitorous Russian puppet. The DNC hacks mean that Russia’s hacked the election! Trump is gaining power because of fake news being spread by Russia! Trump is a Manchurian Candidate - no, Siberian Candidate! And yet, it all seems to slide off Trump, as if he were made of Teflon. The people who support him believe that the mainstream media is corrupt and bias, and going into a frenzy over a conspiracy theory only confirms that belief. There is still no solid evidence. There’s some hints that Russia was involved in the leaking of the DNC emails, but nothing has been established (Morris). But often, these stories spin into wild conspiracy, from claims that the Russians hacked a Vermont utility to the legendary Christopher Steele dossier, with none of its claims substantiated despite months of investigation (Taibbi). There are so, so many other issues to press Trump on, from his refusal to release his tax returns to his plan to expand the already oversized defense budget by another 10 percent (Eland). But instead, we continue to desperately chase after the vain hope we may find some deep conspiracy between the Russians and the Trump campaign. And if it ultimately turns out that there’s nothing there but the occasional political contact, then the reliability of the main stream media will take another massive blow.

Not only does the obsession with Russian interference in the elections waste the Liberal establishment’s effort and resources, and distract from the real problems in the Democratic party that managed to drive people to vote for a shouty reality TV star, it also has created a dangerous atmosphere of fear and censorship that could easily be used against the Democrats.

In 1934, the Special Committee on Un-American activities had been founded by the Democrats Samuel Dickstein and John McCormac to investigate possibly Nazi-spread propaganda in the US. However, in 1939, it would be reorganized into the House Committee on Un-American Activities, which would focus on investigating suspected communist sympathizers, which ultimately meant anything from labor union officials, to anti-war activists, to liberal Hollywood directors (House). At its height, the HUAC would be able to destroy lives with a mere accusation, with blacklisted entertainers unable to find any work in the studio system. Their companion in the senate, Joe McCarthy, would use similar accusations to menace politician and civilian alike (Parry).

Once again, liberals are creating disturbingly dangerous tools to fight their enemies. In November, the Washington Post published the infamous “PropOrNot” list, which accused two hundred alternative media websites of being Russian propagandists on no evidence at all. Later that month, the New York Times “called for leading news companies to marginalize web sites deemed to be publishing fake news. (Parry)” Then, on December 23rd, President Obama signed the “Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act,” setting aside $160 million to create a Global Engagement Center to “to lead, synchronize, and coordinate efforts of the Federal Government to recognize, understand, expose, and counter foreign state and non-state propaganda and disinformation efforts aimed at undermining United States national security interests.” In other words, the United States government is now creating an agency to counter whatever they might see as propaganda from non-state actors and foreign states alike. Needless to say, it is ridiculously dangerous to the freedom of the press that gives the US government a legal right to fight against what it declares as propaganda. And, most absurd of all, this was done a mere twenty nine days before the swearing in of President Donald Trump (Sterling).

In addition to gifting our new Commander-in-Chief dangerous weapons against the freedom of the press, the actions of the Democratic Party in encouraging this new Russian panic bring us dangerously close to nuclear war. By accusing Russia of interfering in the United States elections, which would be an act of war, the Democratic establishment is playing a dangerous game. Furthermore, in demonizing Michael Flynn’s contact with the Russian Embassy as somehow indicative of conspiracy, instead of merely the normal way of figuring out what the Russians are thinking about an issue, the Democratic establishment has threatened an important avenue for communication between powers. (Davies) Having unofficial avenues of contact between powers is important to enable them to communicate plans and see conflicts before they hit, without making any official statements or commitments. If merely having such important communication is threatened as being a sign of collusion, it will be that much easier for an unforeseen conflict to trigger Armageddon. With that prevented, it is that much easier for an accidental conflict to trigger Armageddon. By taking such an aggressive stance against Russia, the Democratic establishment also encourages Trump himself to take an even more aggressive stance against Russia to prove himself to be a loyal red-blooded American.

Over the past few decades, the establishment of the Democratic Party has become increasingly estranged from its natural working-class base. But instead of confronting this problem, they’ve instead focused on blaming Russian subversion for Trump’s rise. In this process, they’ve menaced the freedom of the press and created dangerous amounts of antipathy for Russia. If the Democratic Party is to survive these coming years, we must confront the sources of the deep issues within our own party instead of trying to escape it by blaming a foreign bogeyman.

Prince Harry has always been a royal renegade. When he was 17, the red-headed prince was taken to a rehab centre after he admitted he had smoked marijuana and illegally drank alcoholic beverages. When he was 27, TMZ released naked pictures of the royal, who was reportedly playing strip billiards in a Las Vegas hotel suite. For over two decades, Harry has been rewriting the royal rule book — and in the process, became known to the world as the fun and charming prince. (No offence, Will.)

And now, Harry has found the perfect partner-in-crime. With American-actress Meghan Markle on his arm, the British Monarchy is receiving the modern treatment it so desperately needs. From pantyhose to PDA, we have an ongoing list tracking every time that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stray from royal protocol:

Meghan paints her nails burgundy

On our roundup of weird royal facts, it’s listed that Queen Elizabeth has been wearing the same $8 nail polish for nearly 30 years. It’s a nearly-sheer, light pink polish — Essie’s “Ballet Slippers” to be exact — and according to the brand’s website, in 1989 Queen Elizabeth’s hairdresser sent the company a letter requesting a bottle of “the only colour Her Majesty would wear.”

It’s not just the only colour she’ll wear—it’s the only colour she’ll tolerate in Buckingham Palace. According to OK! magazine, there is a rule in place stating that coloured nail polish does not meet royal standards and is considered “vulgar.”

When Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards to present her wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller, the British Womenswear Designer of the Year award, all eyes were on her pregnancy glow. As she cupped the growing royal baby in her black Givenchy gown, royal rule followers were quick to question: is that… dark nail polish on the Duchess of Sussex’s fingers? Maybe the burgundy hue is an act of royal rebellion, maybe it’s some mystical lighting mishap, or maybe, she just thought it was a seasonally appropriate winter nail colour. Either way, we plan on copping the look this Christmas.

Meghan closes her own door

When Meghan Markle arrived at London’s Royal Academy for her first solo engagement as Duchess of Sussex, she made a small gesture of independence that shook the Internet. Without her prince on her arm, Markle rolled up in a fancy black car in a fancy black Givenchy dress. And then, she did a thing that (apparently) few royals have done before: she shut the car door.

Doesn’t really seem worthy of a headline, does it. But according to Twitter—where this earth-shattering news was the top trending story—it’s almost totally unheard of for an on-duty royal to nudge a car door closed. Is this further evidence that she is a down-the-earth princess? Because if is, Kate Middleton deserves some props too.

It’s totally okay for royals to have political opinions—as long as they don’t publicly share them. As part of their offical royal tour of England, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended a fancy garden party in Dublin. At the event, Markle struck up conversation with a few pro-choice activists and politicians who supported Ireland’s recent abortion referendum.

One feminist journalist tweeted about her positive interaction with the feminist Duchess, while senator Catherine Noone tweeted: “The Duchess and I had a chat about the recent referendum result — she watched with interest and was pleased to see the result.” The Irish politician realized the epic mistake she’d made, and quickly deleted the tweet, sending out instead: “I should say she seemed pleased — she was interested and very measured, not political at all.” She later deleted the second tweet too.

Markle is a vocal feminist, so we probably could’ve predicted her stance on women’s reproductive rights. (And secretly, we hope this is a rule she keeps on breaking.)

Meghan wears a sleeveless dress to her first Trooping the Colour

Meghan Markle made her Buckingham balcony debut on June 9 in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. The of-the-shoulder silhouette of her pale pink, princess-worthy outfit from designer Carolina Herrera was, in fact, not so princess worthy after all. Tabloids were quick to call out the Duchess of Sussex’s dress as a break from unspoken royal protocol, with Page Six claiming: “fashion tradition usually dictates that Royal women do not wear off-shoulder or other more revealing styles.”

For the past seven years, Kate Middleton has worn dresses with sleeves that reach past the elbow, People notes, as did Princess Diana when she attended the festivities. But let’s not get our pantyhose—which Meghan Markle is wearing now!— in a twist, fashion rules were made to be broken.

Meghan’s coat of arms does not include her family name

With the tiara and the title also comes other cool royal perks, like your very own emblem. Now that she’s officially a member of the British monarchy, the Duchess of Sussex has received a personalized coat of arms. Traditionally, the symbolic gift goes to the father of the bride ahead of the royal wedding—Kate Middleton’s coat of arms not only reflects the Middleton family, but also her mother Carole’s maiden name (Goldsmith). With the newest addition to the family, however, the palace has decided to bestow the honour on only Markle herself.

The coat of arms, however, does pay homage to Markle’s roots. The custom design includes a blue background (the Pacific Ocean) and two golden rays (sunshine), which Kensington Palace says is representative of the Duchess’ home state of California.

A two ring royal wedding ceremony

Usually, royal men don’t sport wedding bands after they marry. Harry’s grandfather, father and brother have all opted to follow this tradition by not wearing a ring after they wed their respective wives. However, Markle and Harry have chosen to break this tradition, exchanging rings in the ceremony that they will continue to wear. This signifies equality in the marriage and is a modern step for the monarchy.

Meghan wore a crossbody bag

The princess-to-be arrived at Edinburgh Castle on February 13, 2018 wearing an appropriately chic and seemingly inoffensive outfit: Burberry coat, Veronica Beard pants, Birks rings and a Strathberry bag. But it’s not what Markle was wearing that broke protocol, per se, it was how she was wearing it.

GASP! A crossbody! What a shockingly common and un-royal — AKA comfortable and practical — way to carry one’s lipgloss and cellphone.

According to royal expert William Hanson, royals always carry a clutch as a means to avoid shaking hands. “It is protocol that you do not extend your hand to any member of the royal family (blood royal or those who have married into the family) unless their hand extends first,” Hanson told the Daily Mail. “The Duchess of Cambridge may well prefer not to shake hands with certain people—but there are other ways to achieve this, as used by the Queen and other members of the royal family, [rather] than opting for a clutch over a bag with a strap.”

Christmas with the Queen

After weeks of rumours, Kensington Palace officially confirmed last December what we all were wishing for: an un-wed Meghan Markle would be spending Christmas with her prince. Markle’s invitation was, of course, a break from royal tradition, with Markle being not yet being married into the monarchy. But it seems with Prince Harry, rules don’t apply, because a palace spokesperson told AP that “you can expect to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day.”

Meghan ignored the pantyhose policy

The royal family has an unspoken policy about wearing pantyhose in public. It’s not a style-code that’s set in stone, per say, but it’s a tradition that’s long been upheld by Queen Elizabeth, Kate Middleton and the ruling ladies that came before them.

Until now! When Meghan Markle stepped out with Prince Harry for their official engagement photocall, the world ogled every inch of the American actress’ outfit. The Internet went wild for Markle’s snow white overcoat by LINE the Label and her opal earrings from Birks, but royal watchers were quick to note the one thing she wasn’t wearing: pantyhose.

They’re tied the knot in May

There’s nothing better than a spring wedding, right? WRONG. It turns out, a marriage in May would not have been approved by the Prince’s great-great-great granny, Queen Victoria. The late, great monarch believed it was unlucky to marry in the fifth month of the calendar year, buying into the superstitious rhyme: “Marry in May, and rue the day.”

Meghan’s been married before

Before hooking up with Harry, Meghan was in a long-term relationship with producer Trevor Engelson. They Hollywood powercouple married in 2011, after seven years of dating, and divorced in August of 2013. Now, Engelson is making a show about a man who has to share custody of his child after his ex-wife marries into the British monarchy. According to Deadline, this is the plot: “Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. Sharing custody with the British Royal family when your wife marries a prince, in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media, is next level.” GROSS.

Previously, members of the Royal Family have not been allowed to marry divorcees. As you may recall — from history books, or from season one of The Crown — Princess Margaret had to break off her relationship with Peter Townsend because he was divorced, and Edward VIII abdicated from the throne in order to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson. But it’s not that big of a deal anymore: Prince Harry and Prince William’s father, Prince Charles, married fellow divorcee Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in a civil ceremony in 2005.

This means that Prince Harry will be the first royal family member to have a church wedding with a divorcee. In 2002, the Church of England agreed that divorced people could remarry in church — with the discretion of the priest, of course. After all, it’s only 2017.

Meghan isn’t Anglican

For centuries, it was forbidden for royals to marry a Roman Catholic. However in 2015, an amendment to the Act of Settlement of 1701 made that allowed British royals to have an interfaith marriage. Markle has never *actually* discussed her religious affiliations openly, though it has been widely reported that her father is Jewish and she attended an all-girls Catholic high school in Los Angeles.

Before her Windsor Castle wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan will be baptized and confirmed in the Church of England. By completing these religious sacraments, Markle honours Queen Elizabeth, who, as the sovereign, holds the title of “Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.”

They’re all about the PDA

Okay, so calling a hand-holding PDA is a little extreme. But hey, *technically* it is a public display of affection!

There are no specific anti-PDA rules, but public displays of affection have previously been avoided by the royal family at official events, due to their position as working representatives of the British monarchy. For example: Prince William and Kate Middleton have been photographed holding hands less than a dozen times in the past 10 years (!!!).

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have ignored this unspoken rule at pretty much every opportunity. When they made their first public appearance, the couple shared a smooch. During their joint appearance at Toronto’s Invictus Games, they were photographed holding hands. Even when they stepped out together as an engaged couple, Markle and Harry couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. Not that we’re complaining or anything…more PDA-filled moments please!

It’s not unprecedented for a royal to grace a magazine cover (after all, Kate Middleton was in British Vogue), but to open up about her private life with Harry pre-engagement was a big shock for royal watchers. Here’s the major takeaway: Prince Harry and Markle are madly in love and they’re not afraid to share it with the world.

“We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” she said. “We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

Remember This Week: Its the Beginning of the End of the NRAs Reign of Terror

Shun the NRA. Shun the assault weapons manufacturers. Shame and vote out the politicians who take their money and do their bidding. Thats the strategy that activists for firearms sanity have finally seized on, after decades of losing to the most bloodthirsty lobby in America.

The rise of the Parkland students, and their #NeverAgain movement following the slaughter of 17 of their classmates and teachers by a 19-year-old former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County Florida, presents the most existential threat to the gun lobby in my lifetime. These kids, aged 15 to 18, have spoken more clearly, more forcefully, and more effectively than any activists or politicians, who for decades have pleaded for laws prohibiting the amassing of personal military-style arsenals by American gun fetishists.

What these young people have is special. They are too hurt and shocked and angry to be told to calm down. They are too social-media savvy to be fazed by bots and trolls and insane conspiracy theories. They were born in the post-9/11 age and are too fearless to be made to back down by bullies like the NRAs resident Cruella de Ville Dana Loesch and her fellow travelers on the right. And they can easily spot the BS of a president, who has to hold a palm card to remind him to care when he speaks to them about their terrifying experiences.

And what they are demanding is so rational its impossible to argue against it: an end to the ability of a teenager who cant legally purchase Sudafed, rent a car or buy a beer to obtain a weapon of war, and to turn his anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts into mass slaughter.

The statistics are damning. Since 1966, when a gunman turned the clock tower at the University of Texas into a snipers nest, killing 17 people before police killed him, 1,077 Americans have been murdered in mass shootings, including 162 children and teenagers. According to The Washington Post, which examined 150 mass killings in which one or more gunmen participated and four or more people died, 167 of the 292 guns used by 153 mass murderers were obtained legally, and only 49 illegally (the sources of the rest are unknown).

The problem is not illegal guns. Its the ones that are perfectly lawful to obtain. And by the way, mass shootings represent a fraction of the overall gun deaths that are unique to America, which lost more than 1.5 million lives to gun homicides and suicides between 1968 and 2015 more than have perished in all the wars America has been involved in combined.

And the gun lobby aims to keep the cash registers ringing. With gun sales on the decline, particularly without the black bogie man President Obama to send the war games in the woods militia ranks soaring, they are constantly looking for new ways to terrify existing gun owners into hoarding even more.

The problem is not illegal guns. Its the ones that are perfectly lawful to obtain.

With each new tragedy the gun lobby pushes for more concealed carry, more open carry, campus carry, guns in bars and churches, preventing bans on guns that are undetectable by metal detectors, legalizing silencers and armor piercing bullets whose purposes is solely human extermination, and arming teachers; all in the name of expanding firearm sales. And they stand firmly in the way of any law that would take weapons of mass death out of the hands of abusers, suspected terrorists, and even the insane.

After a gunman used a Glock 17 and Ruger P89 9mm pistol to shoot 50 people, killing 23 inside Lubys Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas in 1991, both the U.S. House and Democratic Governor Ann Richards fought for measures that would have outlawed the kind of weapons used in the killings. The Texas and national gun lobbies fought back, defeating the measures and replacing them with increased support for concealed carry. Richards vetoed one of the new, bloody bills. Her successor, Gov. George W. Bush, signed it.

After an armed security guard a proverbial good guy with a gun proved powerless to prevent two students from Columbine High School in Colorado from slaughtering 13 of their classmates before killing themselves in 1999, the Denver Posts David Olinger wrote this:

They stashed enough firepower under long black coats and in duffel bags to shoot at hundreds of classmates. Concealed in the coat Dylan Klebold wore to school on April 20 was an assault weapon banned from manufacture in 1994, a crude, menacing pistol made to fire 36 rounds without reloading. Eric Harris brought a new, short-barreled rifle that fired 10 rounds at a clip, the maximum allowed by the assault-weapons law.

Each carried a shotgun, sawed off at both ends to render it half its original length, short enough to hide like a handgun and wield like a Capone-era street sweeper.

All four of these guns had been sold from Colorado gun-show tables in 1998 by private sellers who took no names, required no signature, called nobody for a background check. Robyn Anderson, an 18-year-old Columbine High senior, bought three on a weekend shopping spree with her 17-year-old companions. Klebold and Harris supplied the cash, she the driver's license. The assault weapon, a TEC-DC9, was sold at a different gun show to Mark Manes, a young man who later resold it for $500 to the killers – and then sold them a fresh supply of ammunition on April 19, 1999.

At that time, the question was how to close this gun show loophole." The NRA and its fellow gun lobbyists went to work on politicians fearful of being washed out in the 2000 elections and saw to it that nothing was done.

After another gunman carried four guns including an AR-15 (the assassins weapon of choice) and 6,000 rounds of ammunition and murdered 12 people at a Batman: The Dark Knight Rises screening in Aurora, Colorado in 2012, injuring 70, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

After a gunman killed 32 of his classmates at Virginia Tech in 2007, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

After a teenager slaughtered 20 six- and seven-year-olds and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut 11 days before Christmas in 2012, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

After a racist gunman murdered nine black parishioners during Bible study inside historic Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina in June of 2015, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

After the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando left 49 young people dead and 58 injured in June 2016, Marco Rubio used the tragedy to launch his reelection campaign, and then he and his fellow Republicans, under the direction of the NRA, made sure nothing was done.

As the young people of an earlier time led their parents and grandparents and an unwilling nation to moral improvement during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s, these children are leading us.

After gunman turned a hotel room on the Vegas strip into a snipers roost like the one in Texas 51 years earlier, raining more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition onto a crowd of country music concertgoers, killing 58 people and wounding a breathtaking 851 more, the NRA made sure nothing was done. When it was revealed that the gunman tricked out his semi-automatic rifles with bump stocks to allow them to fire like machine guns, the NRA opposed outlawing the accessory, even after hinting they might grow a conscience and support a ban.

Indeed, all the NRA and even more extreme lobbying groups like Gun Owners of America have done after each of these tragedies is to push for more guns in more places, more permission for gun owners to kill fellow human beings by ensuring they can get away with it via laws like Stand Your Ground, more extremism allied to right wing media, neo-Confederate lunatics and even Russia, and more blood money in the hands of Republican politicians.

Currently, the NRA is on record opposing restoring 21 the age of majority at this countrys founding as the minimum legal age to buy the kind of assault weapon used to mow down 17 children and teachers at Marjory Stone Douglas High School something that now even the A+ rated governor of Florida, Rick Scott, is calling for. The 21-year-old minimum age to buy a handgun (but notably not a rifle, including an assault rifle) became the law of the land in 1968 following the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Robert Kennedy that year and the murder of President John F. Kennedy five years before. At the time, the NRA which was still primarily a sportsmans organization supported it, as it had supported the public disarming of the Black Panthers in California under the Mulford Act signed into law by then-governor Ronald Reagan in 1967.

Well, the children of Parkland, in 2018, have finally said enough. As the young people of an earlier time led their parents and grandparents and an unwilling nation to moral improvement during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s, these children are leading us. And we are proud to so honorably led.

These children are united and determined. And they can win. Indeed already, the quarantining of the gun lobby has begun.

This week, the mayor pro tem of Dallas invited the NRA to find a new location for their bloody convention, and warned that if they do show up in his city, there will be protests. Governor Scott and Nevada Attorney General Paul Laxalt, both staunch pro-gun Republicans, wont even publicly admit they plan to attend a sign of how toxic the NRA has already become.

The Parkland students have called for a March 24 march on Washington. The march for our lives has already attracted millions of dollars in pledges and support from Hollywood titans like George and Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey. The march could put millions of people, young and not-so young, in the streets all over the country. School districts should be warned that punishing students for walking out in support of the movement will only make it stronger.

On Friday, First National Bank of Omaha, the largest privately owned credit card company in the U.S., along with Enterprise, Alamo and National car rental agencies, ended their partnerships with the NRA, which offered discounts and perks to their members.

This is only the beginning.

The forces of rationality finally sense an opening. The gun lobby is weak and cleaving to extremists. The Parkland children are strong and declaring that they no longer want to be a generation practicing active shooter drills and afraid to go to school.

Parents are standing up and refusing to sacrifice their children so the gun lobby can stuff more money into their pockets. Their kids may be too young to vote, but they arent.

And no, we dont want are schools to be armed camps, with the lunch lady and the math teacher expected to be prepared to kill a former student who arrives ready to murder and to die

If our politicians dont have the courage to do what is right, what is moral and what makes sense, by stopping the legal sale of these weapons, the American majority will change the politicians. If Wayne LaPierre doesnt understand that the next generation and the next will be unavailable to him and his vile philosophy, he needs a quick lesson in demographic math. Crime is down, but many Americans don’t feel safe

ATLANTA--As recently as five years ago, says Urban Pie pizza shop owner Lisa Curtis, crime was so bad in her Atlanta neighborhood that newly planted rose bushes would get dug up and carted away by thieves.

So when a succession of gunshots rang out in late August, leaving a local rapper dead near her restaurant door, the scene could well have served as evidence of the growing “American carnage” described by President Trump amid a rise in violent crime in some US cities in 2015 and 2016.

Yet where such criminal mayhem may have once been routine here on Atlanta’s urban east side, today it is an anomaly. The Zone 6 precinct has become the city’s most peaceful corner, according to an Atlanta Police Department analysis, when it comes to theft and violent crime. That’s partly due to an influx of wealthier residents, more effective police crime-fighting strategies, improving schools, and a blossoming local economy that benefits a wide swath of Atlantans.

“Nothing changed, nobody is staying in and locking their doors,” says Ms. Curtis. “Everybody knows that this is about a few people--the same ones who keep shooting each other and getting shot. If anything, [the restaurant has] been busier as people have come out to show support.”

To some observers, the killing of Jibril Abdur-Rahman and the neighborhood’s shocked but measured reaction can be seen as part of a shifting “paradox of fear” in America.

On one hand, people became 62 percent less likely to become the victim of a violent crime between 1993 and 2014. The number of violent-crime victims per 1,000 persons age 12 or older dropped from 29.3 to just 11.1 in that period, according to Bureau of Justice Statistics.

And so far, 2017 is on track to have the second-lowest violent crime rate of any year since 1990, according to figures released this month by the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice.

On the other, surveys are finding many Americans convinced that a general crime threat against law-abiding Americans is rising. That sentiment has at times found an outlet in President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who together have painted scenes of worsening urban “war zones.”

It’s a conundrum: While US neighborhoods, as a whole, are safer than at any time in the past 25 years, many Americans remain convinced that crime is a growing problem.

Part of people’s outlook depends on where they are viewing from: Rural Americans are far more likely to believe the narrative of big crime in the big city. One of them is Trump voter Skip Dempsey, of Social Circle, Ga. From his rural perch, Atlanta, 45 minutes to the west, reminds him of a “Blade Runner”-like no-man’s-land where “blood runs in the streets”--and where the threat from “thugs” is constant.

Urban residents, meanwhile, who see firsthand children riding their bikes and people walking dogs at night through formerly high-crime neighborhoods, are more likely to be aware of the gains. Also playing into the question of perception versus reality, criminologists say, is our polarized worldviews and how those views can be influenced and manipulated by Hollywood, the media, and politicians. Economic uncertainty, political unrest, and a lack of civility also erode people’s feelings of safety.

“The reason people so easily embrace this idea that things are bad out there … is because there is a level of discord. If we were all getting along and not distrusting our neighbor, we wouldn’t be so easily persuaded by a short-term spike in crime into thinking that the sky is falling,” says Northeastern University criminologist James Alan Fox in Boston.

Instead, “it doesn’t matter that the homicide rate is half of what it was 25 years ago--those are just numbers,” adds Mr. Fox. “What matters is you can turn on a television set and see plenty of crime. We are saturated with crime.”

Yet dig deeper and criminologists and political scientists suggest that rising crime is not top of mind for political strategists nor, necessarily, US police departments, the vast majority of which are seeing the positive impacts of data-driven policing strategies.

And a large majority of Americans as a whole, at least by some measurements, feel relatively safe in their own surrounds. In findings that have been mirrored elsewhere, a Journal of General Internal Medicine study found only 8.7 percent of Americans over 50 regarded their immediate neighborhood as unsafe; 68 percent considered it “very safe.”

“People hear rhetoric about crime, they see crime on the evening news, but they know in their own minds that they are safer than they used to be,” says Ames Grawert, a counsel in the Brennan Center’s Justice Program in New York. That, he says, “is why, even if they think crime is going up in the United States, many feel like their neighborhood is safer than ever.”

In fact, he adds, “cities have been the principal beneficiary of crime declining--and that includes New York City, which now has a lower murder rate than the nation as a whole, where 20 years ago it was a dangerous city.”

To be sure, a spike in violence in Chicago, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., drove a national murder rate increase in 2015 and 2016. But this year, the rate appears once again to be tacking downward--even in Chicago. The murder rate is projected to fall by 2.5 percent in 2017, according to the Brennan Center. If that holds true, it would be the lowest since 2009.

Yet outsize crime fears clearly have had political impact in the US--and could extend to policy as the Trump administration pushes for higher mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses and scales back ethics oversight of local police departments.

Remember This Week: Its the Beginning of the End of the NRAs Reign of Terror

The problem is not illegal guns. Its the ones that are perfectly lawful to obtain.

Each carried a shotgun, sawed off at both ends to render it half its original length, short enough to hide like a handgun and wield like a Capone-era street sweeper.

After a gunman killed 32 of his classmates at Virginia Tech in 2007, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

After a teenager slaughtered 20 six- and seven-year-olds and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut 11 days before Christmas in 2012, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

After a racist gunman murdered nine black parishioners during Bible study inside historic Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina in June of 2015, the NRA made sure nothing was done.

These children are united and determined. And they can win. Indeed already, the quarantining of the gun lobby has begun.

This is only the beginning.

Parents are standing up and refusing to sacrifice their children so the gun lobby can stuff more money into their pockets. Their kids may be too young to vote, but they arent.

And no, we dont want are schools to be armed camps, with the lunch lady and the math teacher expected to be prepared to kill a former student who arrives ready to murder and to die

And good riddance to them in advance.
