Customized a Speaking Rain doll this week ♡ she is Kaya's adopted sister (cousin) from the books, and she is visually impaired
I re-beaded one of Kaya's meet dresses to better match Speaking Rain's (few) illustrations and overall personality, and I gave her Séliš-style braided loops since she splits her time between the two tribes. I've ordered her a new wig so that she looks a bit more different from Kaya, and I'll post her again after the swap!

So I'm currently reading the second Kaya mystery, The Ghost Wind Stallion. I'm not very far yet (no Spoilers, please!), but I love how much it focuses on Speaking Rain, and it got me thinking again about Speaking Rain customs.
I've always seen people use the Kaya face mold for Speaking Rain. That makes sense, because Kaya's is the only female mold with a closed mouth; but still, I don't like the idea of them looking exactly the same except the eyes. Recently on Marketplace, I saw a custom for sale where the artist had used something to fill in the lips of a doll, hiding the teeth (I think the intent was to make the lips fuller, and the teeth were just a side effect). Anyways, I thought the Nanea mold, with her narrow face and wide eyes, would be perfect for Speaking Rain if someone did that. I started out just daydreaming, but then I was so enchanted with the idea that I ended up spending far, FAR too long making this edit (it's currently 7:43 am local time and I haven't slept yet). Anyways, I think she is gorgeous and now someday (probably years in the future, but someday) when I have the money, I'm going to commission someone to create her for real.

Kaya’aton’my’s Series – Nimiipuu Names
While we have a pretty good shot at guessing Two Hawks’s name, I wanted to make a list of the most likely names for the Nimiipuu/Nez Perce characters in Kaya’s series, as a few Nimiipuutímt dictionaries are available.
Even as a kid, I always wondered what everyone’s name was in their actual language, as all but Kaya’s names are translated to their English meaning. I see why this was done– the English-speaking children that make up the target audience would likely be confused by an abundance of names they’d have trouble pronouncing– but even then I do wish to know the names of the characters we all hold so dear.
This is the dictionary I was able to use. I’ll also cite it properly at the bottom of the post. I also utilized nimipuutimt.org, which was incredibly helpful and includes video lessons as well as grammar lessons.
However,
Disclaimer: I am an English-speaking white girl. While I’m using as many official dictionaries as I can, I will likely fuck up grammar on occasion.
Most importantly I will likely fuck up grammar/sentence structure due to my low education in this field; I also have trouble deciphering how (or if) one changes a word when it switches structure; for instance, a verb becoming an adjective. There is information on this on nimiipuutimt.org, but I’m afraid I have not been very good at translating it from English properly.
As such, I will provide each word separately, but not make any definitive claims on word order. I have everything under the cut so that I can keep everything updated should new information come in or should I become more confident in translation.
If anyone who can speak Nimiipuutímt would like to add anything, please for the love of everything do so, your input would obviously be way more useful than mine.
So. Let’s begin.
First off– pronunciation guide.
Ck = the same as a double K
S as in she
A U accented or preceeded by a consonant should be pronounced as normal in English; however, if it is followed by an A, E, or I without a consonant prior, it’s to be pronounced like W.
Y as in yellow.
Extra information on pronunciation, simple phrases, etc. can be found at https://nezperce.org/about/language/ or https://www.nimipuutimt.org/.
Now that we got that out of the way,
Bear Blanket
Kaya’s medicine woman.
There are multiple words depending on the type of bear we are discussing. A black, reddish or yellowish bear would be “Yáka”; a grizzy, white or brown would be either “Gagáz” or “Iyúmie.” The bear constellation in the northern hemisphere would also be “Iyúmes,” with its tail being “Pitaikin.”
The noun for blanket, meanwhile, is Zizkan. [the verb form is Zizkanisa.]
Beaver Tail
One of Tall Branch’s relatives.
The noun for beaver is “Tákzpul,” while tail is “Túinu.”
Bent Bow
An orphan boy in Kaya’s village.
So. “Bent” is where my anglophonic issues arise, since I’m not quite sure what the adjective form of this verb is. The simple verb form, I can say, is “Zepékillikse,” but there’s a few other uses– to curve by pulling is “Nikékillikse,” to curve in a circle is “Zepezilkse,” to bend as if bending a tree branch is “Nikézipitkse.”
“Bow,” meanwhile, is much easier, with “Timúni.” Alternatively spelled “tim’úuni”, this word in modern times can also mean “gun.”
Brown Deer
Kaya’s elder sister.
There are two words for brown in Nimiiputímt; the dictionary I have says it denotes “two degrees” of the same color, though it doesn’t specify beyond that. The two words are “Sukúisukúi” and “Siuiusiuiu.”
There are actually several words for “deer,” depending on different species. “Ímes” (’ímes) is used for the general species, with specific deer having different words depending on gender– a female red deer would be “Yémes”, reindeer would be Tatápai, elk would be Tisipg, and moose deer would be Sákslas (sáaslaqs).
Claw Necklace
Swan Circling’s husband.
“Claw” is “Kipzuz.”
“Necklace” is “Ueéikt.” [A bead necklace would be Kaláun.]
Crane Song
Cut Cheek’s aunt.
Crane would be “Yétiin.”
Song would be “Uenipt,” though I do wonder if this part of her name may be something more like Crane Call or Sound of a Crane rather than a direct comparison to a song...
Cut Cheek
Kaya’s brother-in-law.
There are quite a few verbs for “cut”, but his name appears to use that word in adjective form. So let’s try this out.
First, the verbs:
Trigger Warning: There is a self-harm mention among these, third to last bullet point.
Cut by striking (ex: axe): “Uekíukse.”
Cut, as with a knife, saw or scissors: “Isekíukse.”
Cut, as in dislimbing or quartering an animal: “Isiueze.”
Cut, as in paring or clipping: “Uesúpse”
Making a small cut: “Izetíkise.”
Wounding via cutting: “Iseuéize.”
Cutting self: “Iné-seuéize.”
Cutting into two parts: “Izepékse.”
Cutting into several parts: “Izipékse.”
End of TW.
It’s likely that the verbs could be used in past tense, but again, I’m having trouble finding differing tenses. I will say that I feel the most likely would be Isekíukse (cut as with a knife), Izetíkse or Iseuéize (small cut / wound).
As for adjectives,
Lacerated, torn, as in a rope: “Getílgetil”
As well as noun/verbs:
To hurt physically: “Komáiz.”
Wound via stabbing: “Iptéye” (n) “Iptéyeze” (v)
Wound via shooting: “Éutes” (n) “Euise” (v)
Wound via dashing against something: “Ueíptet” (n) “Ueiptése” (v)
And finally, scars:
Scar as a noun: “Kaskásuit”
As an adjective: “Kaskasuin.”
So after all that, I feel like the most likely is “Kaskasuin” (scarred).
And then cheek is just “Mástai.” That was way easier.
Finger Cakes
In Meet Kaya, Kaya’s Aalah tells her of her own cruel childhood nickname, “Finger Cakes,” when she was caught stealing some from her brother.
I wasn’t able to find the specific word for Nimiipuu finger cakes, but “Cake” in general is “tam’áamin’.”
Flaming Stick
A member of Kaya’s village from The Roar of the Falls.
I was unable to find an adjective for flaming. The noun is “Liun” (burning), “Ilakáuit” (shining) or “Álla” (fire). “Liun” is probably the most likely. The verb is “Liuze” (with rising/steaming fire) or Ilepilikse (when the flame breaks forth).
Stick is a bit easier I think. The only word for stick was referring to a walking-stick, which might be what his name refers to? That word is “Túkes.” If they’re referring to a random stick, branch is probably more likely a translation, which makes it “Pátoi.”
Fox Tail
Kaya’s cousin, a young boy in her village.
Fox is “Telipe.”
Tail is “Túinu.”
Jumps Back
A young man in Kaya’s village.
This one is a bit hard. If we presume his name is “jumping backwards”, there are a lot of terms for jumping. A lot of them refer to jumping on a horse, so if we presume that that is not what his name means...
"To jump, as in trying to get above the ground” is “Ualásasa”, and “to go about jumping” is “Ualasáiksa.” I think the latter is probably likely.
The word for back in terms of direction is “Elekinike.” However, backward specifically is “Élekipg.”
I think the most likely is Ualasáiksa + Élekipg, but it could be any combo of the above.
Light on the Water
Kaya’s baby cousin, the daughter of Running Alone. She is saved by Swan Circling at the beginning of Kaya’s Hero.
Okay, so light is “Hawkáuit.”
The on preposition is already contained in many verbs and expressed by the removal of the –zese in the root of verbs. So first we need a verb for the light being on the water. To sit on is “Ueksilikézese,” and to fall upon in drops is “Isiséulizése.” So whether her name has Ueksilik or Isiséuli depends on whether her name is light sitting upon the water or light falling upon the water.
Water specifically is “Kus.” Considering her name isn’t “light on the river” or “ocean” or whatever, “Kus” is probably correct.
Little Branch
Rushing Brook’s infant daughter, from The Roar of the Falls.
Little is “Kúzkuz.”
Branch would be “Pátoi.”
Little Fawn
A girl in Kaya’s village. In Kaya’s Hero she is hurt jumping out of a tree, and she’s often noted to play Shinny with Kaya.
Little is “Kúzkuz.”
According to nimipuutimt.org, a general term for a fawn would be “tatx.”
Lone Dog
The lone wolf that Kaya helps and the mother of Tatlo.
Lone as an adjective is used by putting -zuàtg at the end of the personal pronoun. Ipzuàtg is “they (singular) lone,” but I think we can just add it at the end of the word “dog”? I may be wrong tho.
A normal dog is a “Zikámkal.” There are two names for wolf meanwhile; “Izeyéi” is small and “Ímiin” is large. I’d say lone dog’s name is likely Zikámkal, as she seems to be less of a wolf and more of a dog if you know what I mean.
So her name could potentially be Zikámkalzuàtg.
Magpie
Kaya’s despised nickname.
This one is very simple: Ékeg.
Many Deer
A temperamental man in Kaya’s village.
Many is “Illégi” as an adjective. As a pronoun for persons only, it’s “Illegniue.”
Now we get to talk about the words for male deer yay!! Once again, Ímes is for the general word. The male red deer is Téuisin, reindeer is Tipitéuisin, elk is Ueúkie, and moose deer is Sákslas.
Rabbit
A daring girl in Kaya’s village a little older than her.
Another simple one: rabbit is Éyukz.
Raven
Kaya’s older cousin who lives in her village.
Raven is Kókog.
Red Duck
Kaya’s aunt in her village.
For red: bright red / vermilion would be “Hilpilp”, while a deep red / crimson would be “Lemtlémt.”
A wild duck would be “Kétket.” A tame duck would be “Éutet.”
Red Stone
Tall Branch’s relative.
For red: bright red / vermilion would be “Hilpilp”, while a deep red / crimson would be “Lemtlémt.”
There are a couple words for stone colors but haven’t found one for red, only yellow, white and black. So the normal word for stone is “Pisue.”
Runner
Kaya’s father’s horse.
Ulekeiktípez.
Running Alone
Kaya’s young aunt, mother of Light on the Water.
We got a couple words for “run.”
To move swiftly: “Ulékeikse.”
To make [another] run: “Seulekéikse”
To run suddenly: “Tekekéikse”
To run to help somebody: “Tekékeikezése”
To run in a race: “Uléluikize”
To run after someone else: “Tiuekikze”
Alone, meanwhile, is “Inzuáty” as a noun. As an adjective, it is used by putting -zuàtg at the end of the personal pronoun. Ipzuàtg is “they (singular) lone,” with “Inzuátg” as I lone and “Imzuátg” as you lone.
Runs Home
A young man in Kaya’s village, the one who taught Two Hawks to make and play the flute.
We got a couple words for “run.”
To move swiftly: “Ulékeikse.”
To make [another] run: “Seulekéikse”
To run suddenly: “Tekekéikse”
To run to help somebody: “Tekékeikezése”
To run in a race: “Uléluikize”
To run after someone else: “Tiuekikze”
Home is “Init.”
Rushing Brook
A young mother in Kaya’s village.
"Rushing” is a bit hard to find. Looking at different versions of flow, though,
“Uéleze” is basic flowing,
“Uelétze” is to come out flowing,
“Tekeuéleze” is to flow suddenly/falling down,
“Uelikze” is to rise flowing.
As with other words, fast as an adjective is “Ámtiz,” and I’ve already copy-pasted the words for run up above.
A small stream (brook) would be “Póol.”
Snow Paws
A dog in Kaya’s village.
Snow as a noun is “Méke.” Paw would be “Kípzuz.”
Sparks Flying
Kaya’s horse’s colt, named for the fire he, his mother and Kaya escaped.
“Sparks” is a bit hard to figure out.
The noun for fire is “Álliksa” or “Álla”, but I don’t think it would just be fire, but specifically the sparks.
“Líuze” (to burn with rising, steaming fire) or “Ilepílikse” (to burn as when a flame breaks forth) could work, though it is a verb and Sparks is a noun here...
Another verb/adjective instead of a noun, but glitter as a verb would be “Ilapáiksa” or “Ilapáikin” as an adjective.
Verb for sparkle is “Itgolizása”, adjective sparkling is “Pítgolzatipaz.” I wasn’t able to find a word just for a Spark.
We got a couple options for “fly” too:
To fly: “Ueikze”
To fly about: “Ueinikse”
To go about flying: “Ueikéikse”
To fly upward, as on a tree: “Ueletiekse”
To fly upward, to soar / float: “Iyalásasa”
To flee, run away: “Ulelikze”
I think the most likely in context for Sparks Flying would be “Ueinikse” (fly about) or “Ulelikze” (flee). Also to note: the nouns for flight are “Ulelikin” for running away and “Ueíkin” for soaring.
Sparrow
One of Kaya’s twin brothers.
Uekiukíun.
Speaking Rain
Kaya’s beloved sister; she is biologically her second cousin, but was adopted by Kaya’s immediate family after her parents’ death.
So, there are a lot of words to be used for “speaking.” These are the most likely for her name:
“Tennése”: direct translation of “speak.” If her name means “rain that talks,” this is probably the word.
“Pitenuése”: to speak mutually. If her name means “rain talking amongst themselves”, this is the word. [”Pitáutennése” is also this word for specifically speaking at night.]
“Ueuise”: to begin speaking.
“Uainakasa”: to cease speaking.
The second part of her name is much easier: Uéket means “rain!”
Squirrel
A young boy in Kaya’s village, mentioned in The Roar of the Falls.
Zilmii.
Steps High
Kaya’s beloved horse.
If we assume that the steps is a verb, the first word is either “Uetikise” (to advance) or “Uatikzása” (to set the foot upon). [Noun would be “Uetikt”]
Now there’s a couple words for “high” as well. “Tústi” means being in elevated place. “Kuhét” means of a tall statue.
Swan Circling
Kaya’s hero; this will also be Kaya’s name as an adult.
A swan is “Tákaisin.”
Circling, meanwhile? Difficult, but I believe it’s “Temepéise,” which is to encircle.
Tall Branch
Kaya’s maternal aunt.
With tall, we have to wonder if this would be referring to actual height, or simply length; the good news is, the first word we have can mean both “tall” and “long!” Our options are “Kuhét” or “Imékes”; Kuhét is used for more slender items, with Imékes for large-framed.
Branch would be “Pátoi.”
To Soar Like an Eagle
Kaya’s village chief.
As stated with Sparks Flying, to soar is “Iyalásasa.”
Like as in denoting similarity is to add –uàkos to the end of the noun.
As for eagle, a bald eagle is “Sakantáig,” and other fully-red eagles are “Kaspaaláya.” So either Sakantáiguàkos or Kaspaaláyauàkos.
Two Crows
Tall Branch’s relative.
Two is “Lepit.” “Lepú” is used as a pronoun for persons only.
A crow is “Áa”, though a jackdaw or blackbird would be “Kuóskuós.”
So it’s likely Lepit Áa.
Wing Feather
One of Kaya’s twin brothers.
Large/Quill feathers are “Uéptes,” and Down/Small feathers are “Kótkot.” I believe Wing Feather’s name would thus be Kótkot but I do not know a ton about birds.
Yellow Flower
A young mother in Kaya’s village.
Yellow as an adjective is “Maksmáks,” (maqsmáqs) though yellowish would be “Keugkéug.”
A flower is “Látis.”
Another thing to note: specifically “the flower becomes yellow” is translated as “Látis imkasiza,” so this could be her name as well.
Yellow Sky
An elderly storyteller in Kaya’s village.
Yellow as an adjective is “Maksmáks,” (maqsmáqs) though yellowish would be “Keugkéug.”
Sky is a word that depends on whether it is cloudy or clear. Cloudy sky is “Ipelikt,” while a clear sky is “Aikát.”
BONUS: Non-Nimiipuu Characters
Gift from the Stick People
The Nimiipuu name given to Hawk Rising’s baby after Crane Song found her.
A gift would be “Ínit.” (though “Pinit” would be a mutual gift, which I believe means a traded item? I think Ínit would be most appropriate here.)
Now, from is used in this language by the suffix “-kínig.” (IE: from Kaya would be Kaya-kínig).
The Stick People are dwarves in several Indigenous-American traditions, including both the Nimiipuu and the Arapho. The Nimiipuu called them the Its’te-ya-ha, and said that they lived in the deep woods and had the power to make themselves invisible and become incredibly strong.
So Hawk Rising’s baby would be named Ínit + Its’te-ya-ha-kínig.
Hawk Rising
Kaya names the Silent Stranger “Hawk Woman” after she sees her watching a hawk on a cliffside. At the end of the book, she establishes to Kaya that her name is actually “Hawk Rising.”
So Kaya’s name for her:
A hawk that’s often seen in poultry yards: “Pitámianun”
Goshawk: ironically, “Káya”
These were also listed as “various kinds of hawks,” with no specifics. Hopefully I can find specifics later: “Íkeg, Talauyágoz, Káyauákos, Leplépuékos.”
Woman would be “Háyat.” Rising would be...
To come out, as the sun: “Tilétze”
To go up, as the sun: “Tilása”
To come out on a sudden: “Tekétilètze”
To rise from death or unconsciousness: “Utelétze”
To rise, as fog: “Ipalásasa”
To cause to rise (such as standing up and scattering dust): “Tulékoksa”
I feel like the most likely here would be Tilása or Tekétilêtze. However, considering her backstory of escaping a deadly fire, thematically Utelétze would work incredibly well.
But let’s find out what tribe she’s from to find her real name.
From the first chapter of The Silent Stranger:
“Her hair is in one thick braid instead of two, like ours, and the backs of her hands are tattooed.”
“What’s she wearing?” Speaking Rain asked, giving Kaya a nudge.
“Under her bearskin she’s got a cape of woven bark with fur at the throat,” Kaya said. “She’s wearing a necklace of dentalium shells, and abalone ear ornaments, too. She looks like the women who live on the seacoast and come to the Big River to trade.”
Here is her backstory, from pg 99-100:
[...] warriors from up the coast had raided her village. She was taken captive and made a slave. Her captors took her with them to the Big River. There, a man from over the high mountains saw her and made her his wife. He was a good man. She went with him and lived with his people. She was traveling with her husband when a storm stranded them[....]
We also have this description of her baby’s tee-kas:
“[The baby’s] tee-kas is part of my story. It’s not made like ours. It’s made of cedar, with cedar-bark cloth for a wrapping. Women from the coast make their tee-kas like that, and the baby has a pretty necklace of dentalium shells. Why her unfortunate parents were traveling in Nimíipuu country is a mystery, but she’s safe now in Crane Song’s care.” - pg 109
The coast tribes by the Northwest would be Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, Kwakiutl, Bella Coola, Nuu-chah-nulth, Coast Salish, and Chinook.
So we gotta find which traded with the Nimiipuu at the Big River. Because there are so many tribes, I could be wrong, but I think it is likely that she is from the Coast Salish; they were known to use cedar bark for weaving many things, including tee-kas. [1, 2] They would have had access to dentalium shells as well, and the very real historical connections between the Nimiipuu and Salish were already established in the mainline series.
Other possibilities include the Haida and Tsminshian, who are noted to have had abalone access, and the Nuu-chah-nulth, who not only would have had access to abalone but were the primary harvesters of dentalium. They were known to dress their high-status unmarried girls in dentalium shell necklaces. While that wouldn’t apply to Hawk Rising, it could apply to her daughter.
There are many, many different dialects of the Salish language, but looking at this map, I think it’s likely that in order to be near Nimiipuu territory, Hawk Rising would be in the Lushootseed or Cowlitz/Chehalis areas.
We have two options for “Hawk” from the Lushootseed dialect, actually.
Fish Hawk: c̓ix̌c̓ix̌
Redtail Hawk: x̌ibx̌ib
The similar dialect Twulshootseed also uses “x̌ibx̌ib” to mean hawk; I can’t find info on whether or not they use “c̓ix̌c̓ix̌” as well. I will say that I think x̌ibx̌ib is probably more likely.
As for the word for “Rising” or the Cowlitz translation, this is where I kinda. Cannot continue currently. I have not been able to find a dictionary for the Cowlitz. However, when I have the ability I would love to ask native-languages.org once again. If anyone else would like to do so, or take part in their fundraiser, here is a link.
Otter Woman
A woman from “Enemy Country” that held Kaya and Speaking Rain as slaves. “Otter Woman” is only what Kaya calls her, and thus we don’t know her actual name.
First: Kaya’s name for her. Otter is “Tulúlg.” Woman is “Háyat,” with an elderly woman being “Hátuai.”
But onto figuring out her potential tribe, just for fun. From Chapter One of Kaya’s Escape:
She thought they spoke the language of enemies from Buffalo Country[...] they had driven the herd all the way through Nimíipuu country to the northern trail through the Bitterroot Mountains.
Chapter Two also says they go over the Buffalo Trail, and Kaya spots the Lochsa River as they pass. As the Lochsa River is to the west of the Bitterroot Mountains, that means the enemies are traveling west and live in that direction.
I am absolutely useless at Geography, but Google tells me that the Bitterroot Mountains border Idaho and Montana. So if they’re traveling west, that would most likely put them in the areas of Idaho, Washington, Oregon or even Canada, depending on how far their homeland was.
When moving to the Northwestern Plains to hunt buffalo, Wikipedia says that the Nimiipuu enemies there were the Blackfoot Confederacy (Piegan, Kainai, Siksika), Lakota, and Cheyenne.
Looking at a map of indigenous land, directly west of the Nimiipuu were Coeur D’Alene/Skitswish, Yakima, and Walla Walla. If her tribe were in what is now Montana to hunt Buffalo at the time of Kaya’s Escape, they would be in Flathead Kutenai territory, perhaps even Blackfeet. They could also still be near the Skitswish or Okanagan.
Spotted Owl
Kaya’s Wishram trading partner, from Kaya and the River Girl.
Spotted Owl is a Wishram girl, so she would be speaking Upper Chinook. Using washington.edu’s abridged Chinook dictionary, Spotted would be le kye or tzum, depending on how it’s spotted: calico is tzum and piebald is le kye. I’m not sure which one would refer to the actual spotted owl, perhaps calico?
Owl was a bit harder to find; the anthrosource online library does have a Chinook dictionary that I poured through, and I believe owl may be “qoēl.”
So her name could be le kye + qoēl.
If translated to Nimiipuu: an owl would be “Saglatáma,” while a small owl would be “Púgpukélez.” Spotted would be “Kaskás”; while it specifically refers to dapple-gray pattern, it is used for most spotted things.
Two Hawks
I have a full post here, where I contacted Laura Redish of the Native Languages of the Americas to ask about his name. Here is what she said:
The Salish word for two is “esel.”
A fish hawk/osprey would be c'ixʷc'xʷ.
A red-tailed hawk would be a c'lc'lšmu.
A sparrow hawk/falcon would be aatat.
“So this character's name could have been something like Esel C'ixʷc'xʷ, Esel C'lc'lšmu, or Esel Aatat.”
Considering what English-speakers mainly associate with hawks, I’d say “Esel C'ixʷc'xʷ” is probably the most likely.
Additional information: according to spokanelanguageculture, a redtail hawk could also be “Spya.”
White Braids
Speaking Rain’s Salish adoptive mother.
White Braids would, like Two Hawks, be using the Salish Spokane-Kalispel dialect, as they live in the same tribe.
White would be “piq,” pronounced like the English pick. I have not yet been able to find the specific word for braid– I have been able to find the sentence “they braided their hair.” (čyilya’xʷ qnm) I tried to go through the Kalispel-English dictionary I could find online but could not find “braid”– if anyone else wants to try, the links are here and here. I will also try to ask native-languages.org when I have the ability.
Sources: spokanelanguageculture
Young Uncle
Two Hawks’s maternal uncle. “Young Uncle” probably isn’t his name but it’s the best we have to go on.
A maternal uncle would be “ssiʔ.” Young as a descriptor would be “sk̓ʷu̓k̓ʷiml̓t.”

𝐶𝑅𝐼𝑆𝑃𝑌 𝐶𝑂𝑁𝑉𝐸𝑅𝑆𝐴𝑇𝐼𝑂𝑁𝑆
↳ bf!mattheo riddle (british) x fem!reader (american)
↳ 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡 : 0.3k
𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑦 : when cuddling with your boyfriend turns into a debate over british and american slang
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
it was one of those lazy saturday nights in october, where neither of you had anything to do. no assignments to finish, no tests to study for. just you and mattheo, curled up in your bed, the world outside completely forgotten. the fairy lights above you were the only thing lighting your dorm, and the rain outside was the only sound that could be heard.
you were warm and comfortable under your shared blanket, limbs tangled together like they had been a thousand times before. there was a nearly empty bag of snacks between you, and mattheo was laying on his side, propped up on one elbow, reaching into it lazily.
“these crisps are bloody good,” he said, taking a bite, his smirk widening as he caught you staring at him.
you groaned, rolling your eyes for what felt like the hundredth time. “matt, seriously? chips. they’re called chips. we’ve had this argument a million times.”
he chuckled, clearly enjoying how easily he could get a rise out of you. his hand slid to your waist, fingers tracing lazy circles over your skin. “nope. chips are what you call fries. these,” he lifted the bag as if to prove his point, “are crisps. just admit it. you’re wrong.”
you turned your head to glare at him, though there was a playful glint in your eyes. “you know, for someone who insists on calling them crisps, you sure eat a lot of chips.”
he laughed, stealing another from the bag. “doesn’t mean i agree with your blasphemous name for them.”
groaning, you pushed him lightly and stretched out, throwing your legs over his. “fries are fries, chips are chips. you’re the one who’s confused, or maybe just stupid.”
he shook his head, like he couldn’t believe how stubborn you were. “how many times do i have to explain this? it’s not hard, love. chips are the thick ones, like with fish and chips. what you’re holding? that’s a crisp.”
you snorted, deliberately taking a loud bite of one, making him groan. “fries are fries, chips are chips,” you repeated, just to get under his skin.
mattheo ran a hand through his curls, looking at you like you were absolutely crazy. “you’re mental, you know that? you make no sense.” but even though he was annoyed, there was this softness in his voice, this look in his eyes, like he couldn’t help but smile at you, all comfortable in his hoodie, your hair a mess from laying around all day, cheeks warm and pink from laughing.
you leaned into him, resting your head on his shoulder, your body pressed against his. “i’m not the one who’s confused about food, mattheo.”
he sighed, wrapping his arm around your shoulders, pulling you even closer, pressing his face into your neck like he needed to breathe you in. “how did i end up with someone so wrong, yet so cute?”
you laughed, your fingers finding their way into his messy hair as you tugged on it gently. his hand slid down to your waist, squeezing you playfully. “i’m definitely gonna have to educate you on the difference between crisps and chips. i can’t have my girl sounding so american all the time.”
you slapped him lightly on the chest, making him chuckle. “i am american, you idiot.”
“yeah, yeah,” he muttered beforeleaning in to kiss you, his voice dropping to that soft teasing tone that always made your heart skip. “but you could at least try to speak proper english.”
you rolled your eyes and smiled into the kiss, pulling back just enough to whisper against his lips, “fries are fries. chips are chips.” mattheo groaned, leaning back to look at you with fake annoyance. “you’re impossible.”
but even as he complained, you could see the smile tugging at his lips, the warmth in his eyes, and you knew, without a doubt that he wouldn’t have you any other way.

a/n : another scenario i got from character ai, cause i accidentally said chips and the mattheo got mad (i’m neither british nor american guys, sorry)

Soccer Sensation Bradley Bradshaw Fails To Shoot His Shoot With Y/N At Her Concert?
Arsenal captain Bradley Bradshaw may be among his club’s top scorers this season, but even he misses a chance in romance like the rest of us.
The 29-year-old athlete spoke about his missed opportunity with the multi-platinum songstress Y/N while speaking to his former teammate Héctor Bellerín on the latter’s podcast, “More Than A Footballer”, earlier this week.
When asked about any fun stuff he did last weekend, Bradshaw replied,
“I went to the Y/N concert at Wembley [Stadium]... it was awesome. It was pouring rain, but it was amazing. I don’t remember Wembley ever being that electric aside from, like, cup finals. She was sensational.”
Bellerín nods in agreement, having heard great things about the famed singer-songwriter’s live concerts.
Unprompted, the American midfielder then continued,
“If you’ve heard about the tour, there’s this tradition of trading friendship bracelets. And I actually made one with my number on it, hoping I could give it to her after the show…”
The Cockney-raised Spaniard cackled in surprise and teased him, “But she didn’t wanna see you, bruv? [That is] legend!”
“No hard feelings!” Bradshaw raised his hands in defense over the Zoom call. “She needed to dry off and get warm. Gotta make sure she stays healthy, protect those vocal cords. But yeah, I was a bit bummed out about it.”
Bellerín laughed and jokingly addressed the camera, “Y/N, if you’re watching, give my boy a chance, will you?”
Mononymous pop sensation Y/N is hot off of her Kaleidoscope North American Tour, which wrapped in September. Her six-show run at Wembley Stadium this November officially kicks off the European leg of her sold-out tour.
Will they be the next pop royalty and conquer the stadiums with their own crafts, or will this fizzle out as this week’s viral anecdote? The ball is in your court, Y/N.
Y/N’s representatives have not responded for comment.
***
Your Miu Miu heels click and clack against the ground. The pavement gleams after the rain and glistens under the streetlights. Everywhere you look, your eyes hurt. Down, and you worry about slipping into a puddle and falling on your ass. Forward, and a million camera flashes are ready to give you an aneurysm.
All in the name of reporting your night off of work, performing live in front of 90,000 people in a stadium.
In other words, all in a day’s work.
There’s a moment of reprieve, when the silvery white blitzes disappear into the dim tangerine lighting of the lobby. The flight down the stairs is so dark, you’re seeing green. It takes your eyes a moment to adjust, but as soon as they do, the thumping bass line of some dance music hits your ears. Clashing perfumes doused on the dancing, dressed-up bodies that you have to weave through.
You are seriously regretting your girl friends’ invite to a night out. You could’ve just had them over to your hotel, open a bunch of red wine, and you would’ve still had a blast. But no. You had to say yes to going to the Cuckoo Club with Lacey, Amara, and Jo.
And this evening is making you feel quite cuckoo.
There’s champagne at your booth and you’re much too eager to take a glass and start a toast. “Cheers, bitches!” you yell over the music, clinking your glass against theirs before downing the whole thing in one go.
It’s nowhere near enough.
There’s not enough buzz to dull the assault to your senses—not even after the three glasses of wine at dinner earlier. Everything is still too loud, too bright, too crowded, too… much.
“Hey!” you nudge Amara, who is sitting right next to you. “Let’s do shots!”
She turns to you, eyes widening at the slightest. “I thought you wanted to take it easy tonight!”
“Changed my mind,” you shrug, as you get up to the bar.
While you make your way through the crowd on the dance floor, Bradley Bradshaw looks up from his booth and does a double-take at the girl who just walked by. Even in a high-end club full of the well-dressed and well-heeled, people still get starstruck. And why wouldn’t they? You’re about as famous as an iPhone.
His eyes widen and immediately whips out his phone to shoot a text to his oldest and most trusted friend Natasha Trace.
‘Dude, I’m in the club and Y/N just walked in. What do I do??’
Natasha thankfully texts back almost immediately. Then again, maybe being a Communications Director for a major company requires her to be a good texter. ‘Wdym what do you do? Just go talk to her.’
‘You were supposed to introduce us!’ Bradley replies, eyes darting between his phone and you at the bar, conflicted.
Natasha is a mutual friend of yours, too, and when the Bracelet-gate clip went viral, she laughed in his face for a full 5 minutes before deciding to set the two of you up. But the schedule never really aligned, so he hasn’t got a chance to see you. Not even after he went to your concert with a friendship bracelet and a dream.
And now, seeing you here in the same room at the same time as him…
‘What do you want me to do, get down there and do it for you?’
‘...Can you?’
He senses the judgment even as the three dots appear on his screen.
‘Stop being a pussy, Bradshaw. Let me Netflix and chill with my gf in peace.’
Bradley scoffs, half-annoyed and half-fond. ‘Asshole. Have fun.’
The dance floor clears up, just enough to see that you’re right there. Leaning against the bar in your dress like a dirty daydream, talking to the bartender, and he couldn’t just let you go without a word. He thought about it, and he simply couldn’t.
“Oi, where are you off to?” His teammate Martin hollers, while the others watch him make his way to the bar in determined strides.
He squeezes past patrons across this jungle of a club, hoping to God that somebody hasn’t beaten him to talk to you yet, or you haven’t ducked out completely. Oh fuck. You’re still there, though. Good. You’re still at the bar, still glimmering under the mirrorball. Just a tap on the shoulder away. You can do it, Bradshaw…
“Excuse me, I—”
You feel the hand on your shoulder just as you turn and stand up, and in a flurry of miscoordination, looks up just as the other person moves in.
In a stroke of dumb luck, Bradley feels the top of your head slamming up against his nose and he groans in pain. “Ohh!”
“Shit! Oh my God…” you gasp, reaching out to the man in front of you. He’s tall, very tall, and you can’t quite see his face with his massive hand clutching his nose. “I’m so sorry…”
“No, it’s okay. My bad…” It really doesn’t seem like it, so he lets go of his nose and smiles sheepishly. Gosh, he must’ve looked stupid right now.
But you see it differently. What you see is a dashing man in a sleek tieless navy suit and a well-groomed mustache, straight out of a Cinemascope flick, ever so handsome despite his reddened nose from the way you just accidentally headbutted him. “No, that was totally mine. Are you okay?”
Your eyes are crystal clear even in the dim light, the concern is palpable in your gaze—and rightly so. It’s just that he’d take the headbutt any day, if it means he can look at your beautiful face. “I’m… I’m swell. Y/N, right?”
There’s a shift in your gaze. First, alert—you’re assessing how much of a potential threat this person is, whether they’re gonna be weird about you— and then it relaxes. Not a threat. Then a slightest hint of mischief, like she wants to know what kind of dynamics they would have. “Have we met?”
And boy, can he.
“We haven’t, actually. But I went to your show at Wembley earlier this week. You were amazing.” He offers a handshake. “Bradley Bradshaw.”
You didn’t quite catch his name over the blaring music, although you shake his hand anyway. “Sorry?”
He leans into your ear, “I’m Bradley Bradshaw.”
You don’t know which one makes your heart skip, the sudden close proximity, the warmth of his timbre, or the whiff of his perfume.
“Right. Nice to meet you, Bradley Bradshaw.” You accept his handshake, hoping he doesn’t see how flustered you are in the strobing purple light.
“Likewise.” He nods with a smile. “And may I just say… you look stunning.”
“What, this old thing?” You brush down the art nouveau-inspired Balmain dress on your body. You’re just being modest, of course; you know you’re dressed to the nines. You have never been much into facial hair, but somehow that mustache suits him very well. “You don’t look so bad yourself. You remind me of a… young Robert Mitchum. Or Paul Newman— or one of those Golden Age leading men.”
His face lights up. It’s hardly the first time he received that kind of compliment, but when it came from you, it feels… different. It feels special. It makes him just a little bolder. “Yeah? Maybe after a few drinks, I’ll be quoting lines from Butch Cassidy. Or would you prefer Cat On A Hot Tin Roof?”
This piques your interest. A man of culture, it seems. But of course, you can’t be too sure. “I’m more of a Paris Blues kinda gal, I’m afraid.”
Gosh, you don’t swoon so easily and he likes you so much for that. “Makes sense.”
“How so?”
“It’s a good underrated musical movie, for the musically gifted… And Sidney Poitier was just fantastic in that.”
“Huh.” You raise your eyebrows. You honestly thought he was just spouting the famous titles. But the fact that he has likely seen this hidden gem might just mean he’s really into it. “Aren’t you full of surprises.”
He leans in to speak in your ear yet again. “If you stick with me for a bit, I might show you another surprise or two.”
The music drowns out your racing heart just barely, and the bartender places a whole set of tequila shots on the bar top, and it snaps you out of your reverie for a moment.
“Wanna get some air?”
He seems surprised, but of course he wasn’t gonna throw away this shot. “Sure. Why not?”
You instruct the bartender to send the shots to your booth, not even spending ten seconds to ponder staying in this deafening hell hole. Not when this man looks like peace. Perhaps an undercurrent of mystery underneath, but his whole demeanor is as calm and comforting as those old-school movies you put on to fall asleep. At the same time, something about this person pulls you in, it’s almost magnetic, and you can’t help wanting to see this through.

❝I'LL NEVER BE YOUR MOTHERS FAVORITE.❞➝ MATTHEW STURNIOLO
"I just wanted to be enough for her to like me."
pair: Matt sturniolo x Columbian!f reader
Genre; angst
cw; Racism, judgement, mentions of forceful break ups, I think that's it. If not pls lmk!
A/n: I know Mary-lou would never be like this in real life. She has the purest, and kindest soul in the world.
You really thought she liked you.
You tried everything to impress her but nothing worked.
Not the way you spoke Spanish, or how you’d been practicing English for years.
Nothing was working.
You just wanted her to like you.
But, even trying to be nice was a failure.
“Babe, I promise you. She’s gonna love you!” Matt spoke, placing your hair behind your ear. “Are you sure?” You spoke, rolling your R’s.
“Yes baby, I promise.” Matt responded. He knew what it was like to be nervous, he had anxiety and so did you. But, yours wasn't as bad. So, you both had patience with each other because you knew it would take a lot of time to get used to. You took a deep breath and made sure you looked good before getting out of the car.
Matt walked up to the front door, you following behind. Before he could knock, the door opened. A beautiful white, freckled face, brown haired lady opened the door. She looked you up and down before hugging Matt. After they pulled apart you attempted to hug her, but she just moved out the way to let you both in.
“So Matt, this is the girl you've been talking about?” She spoke up, going to sit on the couch. Both you and Matt followed behind.
“Uh yeah, this is my girlfriend, mom.” Matt replied, going to hold your hand. “Yeah. She’s…not what I expected to see.” She admitted. In all honesty, you felt kind of offended. What did she mean by ‘not what she expected?' Did she expect a white lady with blonde hair and blue eyes? You weren't any of that. You were a brown-curly haired, hazel eyed, brown skinned Colombian woman. Were you not pretty enough?
“Mom, that's not nice. You can't just say that.” Matt defended you. He never liked when someone would talk about you. Even if it was someone he knew but, he would've never expected this behavior from his mother. He never would've.
“I'm sorry Matt. I just would've thought to see a beautiful white woman. Not whatever she is.” She remarked, pointing at you up and down with a disgusted look on her face. You heard all the nice stories about Mary-lou but, what she was saying and doing wasn't nice at all.
“I don't know where she's from, nor do I care. But, I'm not having a non-English speaking lady date my American son.” Mary-lou spat out. You got tired of her racism and her judgment. It wasn't fair to you. All you wanted was for her to like you.
“I-im sorry but, why are you being so rude? All I wanted was to come here, and finally meet you but it seems like you don't like me just because I'm not from here. Or-or just because your son is dating a Latina woman.” You spoke, tired of the way she spoke about you.
Matt was right behind you. He was getting tired of it too, he wasn't liking the way his mother was talking about the girl he loved. The girl he thinks is so perfect, even if she couldn't speak English well, or that she wasn't American. He liked you, alot. And that's all that mattered to him.
"Matt can I talk to you, in private." Mary-lou spoke, moving towards the kitchen. Matt followed behind, "what is it mom?" Matt replied, annoyed. He was tired of talking to his mother, he hated the way she was talking about his girl. "I think you should break up with her. I don't think she's good for you." Mary-lou whispered, trying to make it so you didn't hear her. "No mom, Absolutely not. I'm not breaking up with the girl that I love. There's no way in hell I'm doing that." Matt admitted. He was angry that his mom would ever say that to him, she had no reason too. You guys have almost been together 8 months, and there was no going back.
"Look Matt..." She sighed, hand on her forehead. "She's not even from here, she barely understands English for God sakes! She shouldn't even be in this country." Mary-lou shouted. Matt had enough he walked out of the kitchen, and spoke up.
“Mom. We’re leaving.”
“Matt-”
“No mom. I brought the girl that I love to come and meet you so you could get to know her. Instead, you were ignorant, rude, and racist. That's not okay, and I won't stand for that.” Matt stood up.
Before his mom could say anything, both of you walked out the door and to the car. It was silent before Matt decided to speak up. “Baby, I'm so sorry. I didn't think she was going to act that way.”
“It's okay baby. It's not your fault. Can we just go home?”
“Yeah, of course we can.”
The ride back was silent, sounds of wind coming in through the rolled down windows. You didn't understand why she didn't like you. You were just like everyone else, a normal person. Just a girl that was in love. So, it wasn't fair for you to get treated differently. Sure, you knew that being a foreigner had its pros and cons but you never knew it could get this bad.
It has only been your second year in North America, maybe that would've made Mary-lou understand but, there was no point in trying. Suddenly, you felt your phone vibrate in your pocket. It was a call from your mom. You answered and pulled the phone to your ear
“Hola Mami, que paso?”
“Namas quería saber como te fue. Estas amañado aya?”
“Fue mal ma. No me trato bien su mama. Osea me odia porque soy de Colombia. La escuche hablando con Matteo Mami, y dijo que no Tengo el derecho de estar aqui."
“Ay mi niña Linda. No le hagas caso, princesa. A quién le importa lo que piensa esa vieja.”
“A mi Mami. A mi me importa.”
Matt could hear you on the phone with your mom. He knew that you were telling her about what happened. He could hear you start to cry. Matt hated to hear you cry, it broke him into pieces. His pretty girl crying is something he couldn't ever handle, your pretty face wasn't meant to be stained with tears.
Matt was meant to make you happy all the time, but he knew sometimes he couldn't. Even then, he still tried everything to make you happy. Eventually, when he pulled into the driveway, Matt could hear you end the conversation with your mom. You hung up, and took a deep breath, wiping your tears away.
“Come on sweet girl. Let's get you inside so we can talk about it, yeah?” Matt spoke, helping you out of the car. You just nodded, stepping out the car and walking towards the front door. You really wanted her to like you, but sometimes it just doesn't go the way you want it to, and that was hard to accept.
You walked in, kicked your shoes off and sat on the catch just staring at the floor. Matt did the same, sitting next to you. “Baby, I'm so sorry about what happened. I never should've brought you to meet her.”
“You know, she's right Matt. M-Maybe, you shouldn't be with a girl who can barely speak English. You should be with a girl that can speak your own language and a girl that’s from this side of america.” You stammered, tears starting to swell in your eyes. You tried catching them with your knuckles, upset at the fact that you were agreeing with something that his rude mother had said. “No. No, no, no ,no, and no.”
“Baby, look at me.” He spoke, trying to get you to look at him. When you didn't budge, he moved to kneel in front of you. “Look at me.” Matt spoke sternly. “Baby, I don't care what my mom has to say or think. All I've ever wanted was you, since that day we met. You're the only one I want. The only girl I'm in love with, and I wouldn't ever have it any other way.”
“She said absolutely ignorant and racist things. But, what she said doesn't define you or your personality. She didn't give you a chance, and that's her fault. Maybe, if she would've given you a chance, she would realize how good of a woman you are.”
“Matt.”
“Yes, pretty girl?” He responded looking at you in the eyes, tucking a piece of your hair behind your ear. He kissed your forehead.
“I just wanted to be enough for her to like me.”

I went to an estate sale near me today, based on a single picture that showed me that they might have Susannah (Felicity's doll) and Clara (Samantha's doll)
I came home with this:
I'm not sure if the original owner had Speaking Rain's doll or if I overlooked it, but she had all 6 of the original glass eyed dolls, and most importantly, all the rest of the girls' dolls.
I wasn't planning on buying my Christmas gift all in one place, but I couldn't pass up the chance!
Susannah has a tiny chip on her chin but also she actually has wooden legs that move AND I DID NOT KNOW THIS? It never actually sank in that she's really made of wood! She was $2.
Nina looks almost exactly like the one of the wiki, other than the slant of her eyes. She was $15 because someone knew she was American Girl.
Sari is beautiful and I need to get out my other one so I can compare her. She had no price so they charged me $2. Kirsten had been holding her (I'm so sorry I had to separate you two :( ) but I was not going to pay $125 for each of the 18 inch dolls.
Ida Bean was my holy shit if dreams come true wish and now I have her?!?!? She is the best surprise of all. She had no price but instead of charging me $2, the lady looked over at some racist "Mammy" teapot another lady was buying, decided she was slightly more valuable and charged me $5. (I would have paid $25 but whatever).
Clara was snagged so fast. She's not the original version, but her face is matte compared to the one on the wiki.
Amelia was (unfortunately) in a case with GI Joes so they charged $25 for her. I almost lost her hat when they handed her over to me. :(
Molly's nurse doll was tucked over in a different case and I almost missed her. Her little hat kept trying to fall off and I can't wait to show her to my daughter because she was really excited for Molly to get a doll when we read the books.
Other than Kaya missing a button, the mini dolls are all there. Sending out amazing finds energy to everyone, because I surely did not deserve this much.

Star crossed lovers (Jude Bellingham fanfic)
Chapter 2
(Series Link)
Jude * female reader. No warnings.
Synopsis: A chance encounter in a tiny Madrid cafe with the newest superstar of her fav club. The two couldn't be more different, yet both feel the pull toward the other. Would this girl be the one he finally falls for? Would she make him change his ways? Even though she resists him every step of the way, would he fight all odds (& her) to have her in his life? Or would life come in the way of these star-crossed lovers?
……………………………………………
A few hours later that evening, when Jobe checked his phone, he found two notifications from his brother.
Two messages sent, 15 mins apart, but both deleted shortly after. He decided to ping him to check in.
Jobe: Hey wassup?
Jude: Hey. Just about to crash.
Jobe: Anything playing on your mind? Nervous about tomorrow?
Jude smiled at his screen before answering. The answer was yes, in more ways than one.
Jude: A bit, yes. Yet, I can’t wait for tomorrow to come. It’s strange but, y’know what I mean?
Jobe: It’s warranted I guess. First Classico of your life, that too at home. Would be intense. But exciting too.
Jude: Hmm.
Jobe: Should I ask Mom to call you? She would anyway call tomorrow morning, though.
Jude: Nah let it be. Let her take care of Aunt Tracie. I know she wanted to be with me here for this but that’s important too. I am anyway gonna crash soon.
Jobe: Good luck for tomorrow. Kill it.
Jude: Thanks mate, need the luck. Talk to you soon.
He put the phone down, dimmed the lights and pulled the blanket all the way over his head. After tossing and turning for 10 mins, he checked his Whatsapp again.
No message from her. But she was online. Her DP was super cute, he thought. A sun-kissed photo on a beach in a yellowish floral dress.
Jude: Reached safely?
He went with the only segue he could think of. 45 seconds later, blue tick.
Ananya had reached just a few mins ago. One hour’s work took over two coz she just couldn’t focus. And she actually ended up getting stuck in the rain, just as he had predicted.
Just then, his name flashed on the phone. Reminding her that she hadn’t hallucinated all this. Her roommate was blasting music loudly in her room, in the weekend spirit. If only she knew what happened, she would die. Roma was an Indian American, who had never really lived in India. She was her colleague at work and as big a Madridista as her. They had hit it off instantly during the internship last year.
Ananya: Hey, yes I am home. Thanks for checking in :)
Jude: Super :)
She tapped her thumb on the phone screen, thinking whether her next question would make her look silly. But she decided to ask anyway.
Ananya: Is there some of..dress code for players box? I see a lot of people dressed in suits and formals.
Jude: No no, those are the corporate / business guys mostly. You can wear whatever you want.
Ananya: So, I can wear my jersey?
That brought a big smile to his face.
Jude: Ofcourse, dove! In fact, I would insist you do that :)
Instead of asking which jersey, rather whose jersey she was gonna wear, he tried a different tactic.
Jude: I could get the latest season’s one sent to you before the match.
Ananya: Nice try. But I have a favourite one I am planning to wear. You can guess whose it’s gonna be.
Jude: Can I change your mind?
Ananya: From now to tomorrow evening, I highly doubt it.
Jude: Is that a challenge, dove?
Ananya: Don’t you have an important match to focus on tomorrow?
He sighed.
Jude: I do. Really should have crashed by now.
Ananya: Think about how dreamy tomorrow would be. Even the ride through the training ground to the stadium would be nuts - thousands of fans on the streets. We need you well rested and charged up, and I am speaking on behalf of all fans when I say this. Close your eyes and get your beauty sleep now.
He chuckled over how quickly she switched from her own self to a fan representative.
Jude: Are you working for Carlo on the side and not telling me?
Ananya: Maybe, who knows. Good night, Jude. Sleep well. You would be amazing tomorrow.
Jude: Thank you. And Ananya?
Ananya: Yes?
Jude: I can’t wait to see you in my box tomorrow, cheering for me. Good night, dove!
With that, he finally put his phone down, snoring softly in a few mins.
But she ended up staring at her phone for a good 15 mins. The last line. Him calling her dove. Dear lord, what even was happening? This made no sense. They had nothing in common. This was not logical at all. The surrealism of it made her pinch herself a few times. She looked back at his DP - hugging his mom during his signing, both with a big smile. It was so sweet. Everything about him was so sweet. So normal. How could it be?
She shook her head and went to her roommate to break the news. Roma didn’t believe her at once but when she saw the passes, and a few messages from him as she practically snatched the phone away from Ananya, she jumped around like a 5 year old girl on a sugar high.
Ananya just laughed at her friend’s antics. She kept her anxiety on the Jude situation aside for a moment, at Roma’s insistence, and the two just celebrated getting to watch a Classico tomorrow. And, to see Zidane up close. The joy of the moment took over the nerves and they both jumped on the bed, hugging each other. Tomorrow couldn’t come soon enough.
Next evening, they reached well in advance, not wanting to take any chances with traffic or queues. The players box and the attached lounge were luxurious - the girls checked out the place thoroughly, sampling the appetisers and drinks. 30 mins later, when the girls went back to their seats, Ananya found a few unread messages popping on her phone. They were from him. She held the phone close to her chest, so others don’t see the name, and clicked on the messages.
Jude: Reached?
And then, a from few mins later.
Jude: Came out for warmup. Didn’t see you in the box. Stuck somewhere?
She quickly typed the response.
Ananya: We are here. Sorry, lost track of the time while checking out the place and trying to get Zizou in a selfie frame. Not so much a selfie but us trying to get an angle with him included, while he was having his croissant far away.
Blue tick. Immediately.
Jude: Haha, he’s a nice chap. You could just ask him for a selfie.
Ananya: Considering I ran away when he looked in my direction, don’t think that’s gonna happen anytime soon.
Jude: (laughing emoji)
She was still feeling guilty for missing the warm-up, so she decided to send him two photos. The first was the half selfie with Zidane, and the second was her in the box with her three friends, with the field as the background.
There was silence for a bit. She thought he must be getting ready to come back on the field, so she started checking her insta and added the two photos. The fan groups she were a part of would go nuts at this, she already knew.
Two minutes later, his name flashed again.
Jude: Who’s that guy in the picture with you?
Ananya looked back at the picture in question. It was her, Roma and her two work colleagues. The girls had invited them too. They were all standing next to each other, hands casually around each others’ backs as they posed with big smiles. Jude must be referring to Arjun, she figured, as he was the one right next to her.
Ananya: He’s my colleague. Well, they both are. You had sent 5 passes so Roma and I asked them. Is that a problem?
She wondered if she had overstepped the invite somehow and bit her bottom lip as she nervously saw him type.
Jude: Is he with you?
Her brows furrowed in confusion.
Ananya: I mean, I just said all three of them came with me.
Jude huffed in frustration, staring at the photo again. He could tell it was meant to be a casual photo but the guy’s hand was too comfortable on her back and too close to her waist. Something about him immediately irked Jude. He just hated his guts.
Jude: But he’s not WITH you right?
It was her turn to get annoyed now.
Ananya: Jude, seriously? Right now?
She jumped when the phone rang. It was him ofcourse. Roma looked at her curiously and Ananya rushed back into the lounge to escape from prying eyes. She found a quieter corner and answered the phone.
‘Before you say anything, I have 30 seconds after which I have to rush into the tunnel. You have every right to be mad but can you pls answer my question now and I will make up for this behaviour later? I don’t wanna go to the field like this.’
The mix of earnestness and child-like hope in his tone somehow assuaged her annoyance.
‘Please?’
She sighed audibly on the line and he looked at his teammates who had already started exiting the dressing room.
‘No, he’s not WITH me like that.’
She could practically hear him smile at the other end.
‘Thank you. I knew it but just needed to hear from you. And like I said, I will make up for this. Gonna score for you, dove. And later tonight, gonna apologise when I see you.’
His teammates were calling him in the background now, everyone was in the tunnel. He got the last sentence in before he absolutely had to hang up.
‘After the match, meet me in Pavillion 2 Parking lot, Pillar 4. It’s only for the players, no media or fans would be there. It’s a private exit from the back so no one would see us together. Then we can have a quiet dinner. Come down when I ping you. Yes?’
Another long, audible sigh at the other end.
‘Ok.’
She could again hear the darned smile.
‘Won’t wish me luck?’
‘Good luck, Jude. Now go, please. The anthem has started playing.’
‘Keep your eyes on me. See you soon. Bye.’
With that, he hung up and rushed to join his team, and got some looks which he totally deserved. But that was a small price to pay.
Ananya ran back to the box, not wanting to miss the anthem. She was a fan, first and foremost, and this was a big match. Hala Madrid Y Nada Mas blared at full volume. The girls stood up and sang along, waving to the beautiful melody.
Just then, the team stepped out. Serious game faces on. Her eyes scanned the whole team, marvelling at seeing them all only for the second time. Finally, her eyes landed on Jude, who was standing at the end of the line. And Roma elbowed her in the ribs just then because guess what? He was looking up at the box.
When he spotted her, he gave a slight nod in her direction which only the two girls could decipher. But very quickly, the game face was back on. She could tell how focused he was for tonight.
It was a tough match, heavily competitive, like any Classico. Barca were marking Jude really well, given he had been the most destructive force of Madrid in the first few months. He was getting frustrated but kept at it.
The group soaked in the riveting atmosphere. And the girls fangirled over many notable people in the VIP box. Nadal was quite an animated viewer in person which they were amused to see.
But mostly, they sang along for every chant, every song that was reverberating in the stadium. And the view was just perfect, not like when she had watched from the stands last year.
She did find her eyes going to Jude many times. Gosh, he looked fit. And played marvellously. He really was a vision tonight.
And just like that, first half was over. The atmosphere was tense as Madrid was down 1-0. The coaching staff rallied the players back to the dressing room, to regroup and strategise for second half. They were definitely going to get an earful for the set piece defending. She couldn’t look away from Jude as he walked off - he looked disappointed, angry yet still determined. He walked with intent, already talking to the coaching staff on the way.
The crowd started discussing different nuances of the first half as the highlights played on the 360* screens.
She pulled out her phone and sent him a quick message.
Ananya: There is full second half to go. As they say, 90 mins at the Bernabeu is a long time.
There was a blue tick but no response. She figured he would be busy, as he should be at this time.
The second half began soon after. Both teams went at each other but Madrid was playing with more aggression now. More pressing, more tackles, more forward movement.
And 20 mins later, out of nowhere, from way outside the penalty box, Jude scored a long range screamer.
The crowd went berserk, as did the boxes. Nadal nearly stood on his chair and waved his coat. The girls hugged each other and screamed their lungs out. The whole squad and the coaching staff ran on the field and ambushed Jude.
Once they dispersed, he raised his arms to the fans, pulling out his trademark celebration. And the fans sang ‘Hey Jude’ with love.
As he was walking away, he did sneak in one look towards his box. Nothing too obvious for the cameras to catch, but she saw the slight nod again. He knew she could see him on the 360* cameras and would know it was meant for her.
Roma saw it too. And dug her nails into Ananya’s arm.
‘Girl, is this real or am I in a trance? Did he really just do that?’
‘Honestly, I am asking myself the same question.’
As it turns out, he wasn’t done scoring for the night. In the penultimate minutes, the man scored a winner from close range.
The noise in the stadium was deafening. Some fans pulled their shirts off while others cried with joy. The two girls jumped from their seats and kept jumping for a good minute.
The celebration from the team was worthy of a Classico winner. Jude and Vazquez did some mental dance and then Rudiger tackled them all to the ground. Later, Valverde jumped on Jude who caught & held him with just one arm.
‘Pretty boy is strong too, huh?’
Roma whispered in Ananya’s ear, making her flustered. She nearly wanted to retort saying if Roma was just realising that and not during the match when he outmuscled all midfielders in duels.
Before she could say anything though, he did that sign with both hands, looking towards his thighs. The crowd roared back at him.
Ananya found herself paralysed in her seat as Roma elbowed her violently.
‘Maybe he’s giving you a message’
Ananya buried her head in her hands as Roma continued to tease her endlessly. Even with her fluster, she couldn’t help notice how the arrogant confidence suited him perfectly on the pitch.
Soon after, the final whistle came and the fans roared again along with the anthem. The team took a lap around the stadium, thanking the fans for their support. As they were walking off, Jude looked up at the box and his gaze lingered for a few seconds.
He looked away just at the right time, before the cameras caught his gaze. Ananya sighed inwardly - she had been worried about this all evening but thankfully it didn’t look like anyone had caught a whiff.
The rest of the group went to the lounge to grab a bite before leaving. She stayed back in the box and took in the atmosphere some more.
When Jude managed to check his phone 10 mins later, it was buzzing with messages. He checked the ones in his family group first and pinged them that he would call soon. Their happiness and support was the biggest reason why he did what he did.
Then, he looked for another name, and giggled with joy to see an unread message.
Ananya: Congrats. That was a special performance. You guys made the fans very happy, especially you. Savour the accolades, you deserve them.
He smiled from ear to ear, re-reading the message a few times.
Ananya was in the washroom when her phone buzzed again.
Jude: Did I make YOU happy?
Ananya: Very much so :)
Jude: Am I forgiven for earlier, then?
Ananya: Mostly, but not fully.
Jude: Ooh tough crowd :)
He sneaked into the shower to quickly call her from there, as the dressing room had erupted with champagne and food fights and all kind of hip hop jazz performances.
She picked up instantly.
‘Hey.’
‘Hey, sorry for the background. The lads are losing it. I am gonna need 20 mins more to take a quick shower and meet you downstairs but given the mood outside, might become 30. But I definitely will make it down in 30. Would that be ok?’
‘Yes ofcourse. And hey, don’t cut down the celebrations. These are the moments to cherish. In fact, if you just wanna hang with the team..’
He didn’t let her finish.
‘Are you mad? I have earned, EARNED this dinner with my blood, sweat and tears. No way I am giving that up. Nu-uh.’
She giggled at his theatrics and he giggled back at her.
‘Ok. Gotta go now. The sooner I wrap up here the sooner I see you. Sending you the car number. Will ping you 5 mins in advance. The parking lot is a bit secluded but it’s meant to be that way. It’s perfectly safe so don’t worry when you walk down there. I will anyway pick you up in 30 seconds of you being there. Ok? See you soon.’
‘Cool, see you.’
‘Bye, dove.’
‘Bye, Jude.’
He hung up and rejoined the mad dances that Vini and Cama were leading, still keeping track of time.
While Ananya grabbed on to the washroom counter, looked into the mirror and stared at her own reflection.
It was really happening. In 30 mins, she was going to get into his car, go to his house, and have dinner with him alone for a few hours.
…………………………….
There you go, this was the second chapter. Tons more to come in this story, feedback / comments are very welcome. Would love to hear your thoughts 😊

My Perfect
L x Chubby Reader
A.N: ( See even though im like late I STILL POSTED! im on like grind yall but, this man so fine I'm like i must write my deepest soul wrenching words about him)
I'm not perfect.
That's it. I tried every day as a kid to be perfect; pretty hair, small frame, soft voice everything to look desirable to others I tried to be. In high school I needed to be bold, thicker but not too thick, tall but too tall; never speak overly passionate it was a turn off, don't wear too much makeup it's like I'm a slut, and never can venture out and find a comfortable look for me. I never let the girl inside eat.
I wasn't berated though? Yes, I got stares when I wore something sitting and people saw my stomach, like yes mothafucka I got a stomach y'all thought it was a huge ass pot in my shirt? Yes, I did get the ' I'm sO cOnFideNt!' talk when I ate something like fruit, who doesn't like pineapple? When shopping I had looks of could I fit this or that and nobody ever comforted me when I would cry about not fitting jeans.
I was never perfect. But he never cared.
*Back to when Light didn't find the Death Note yet*
Log In: June 23, 2017
" What are you having for lunch?" was asked by my closest coworker, Maria she and I was friends since our college days when cramming information about law, statistics, and for some reason Shakespeare; we were forever. I turned to her in this damn rolling chair that was obviously not made for a girl with that thang back there, I mean why is half my leg practically on the floor? I thought about it for a second.
" I could go for quick burger, what about you?
" That's fine! Also did you finish your report? I didn't even get to..." I just stared at her though my head in space, Maria turned to see what I'm looking at and she saw a strange man walking inside the room.
" Um...I don't think he works here?"
" Is this when we got to fight for our lives? I don't have no weapon."
The man tall, dark unruly hair not curly though it looks like a one of those emo people from the 2000's like my chemical romance vibes, he has a homeless man look on him...its kind of sexy thought but, he doesn't work here?
We watch him while towards us and goes to the head manager cubicle that two rows ahead of us. We look at each other and look down acting like we're working but, we really being nosy. We hear only indicant chatter and the strange man's voice, his name is Riuzaki? Or Rukai? I don't know and our manager asked again, and he ignored the question and started talking about something different. Kind of rude but, with the way our manager is I'd do the same; Maria looks at me and looks at the time and tells me it our lunch break so, we both get up and I make sure to push down my jacket a habit I did as a teen to look slimmer, we walk out and down the little pathway to the front of the office when we get close to the strange man I turn my head down, his eyes immediately traced to me and he stared at me and he turned, kind of weird his eye contact was intense!
We walked over to the company lunch places inside it's a tiny burger spot filled with American dishes; we haven't really eaten there so we decided to try it out since it was also raining. Maria order first, a chicken salad with extra chicken and cheese with a large drink and dessert then it's me, a cheeseburger with fries and a large drink with a cookie; we wait a bit and sat down at a two-seat table and we talk about the sight we just saw.
" I wonder if he's trying to get a job here? "
" For what though? we ain't got nothing available yet."
" What if they fired somebody!? I heard but I didn't hear from department C that somebody was overusing company resources and they got let go."
" Omg, who?" Maria was going to say but we hear a buzz, and our food was ready we grabbed a tray and the person who gave us our orders gives me a look, ya'know the look of ' Breaking that diet huh?' Its common but still is annoying so I mean mug him back and he backs off. Sitting down we talk about our topics of choice like vacations, fashion trends, the latest news when the man from earlier comes down; didn't even see him till he pulled up a chair beside me and stared. Like what?
" Oh, Hello!" I introduced myself and Maria does the same, but how says nothing and stared at me.
" Are you going to eat that?" He points at a strawberry cookie I got, I look and shake my head "no' even though I was saving it I give it to him and smiled. He takes it and thanks me and then turned to Maria and asked how she feels about the company. Now, Maria is a sweet girl but, if she can't say her opinion without lying so she tries to say it's wonderful but, he caught on.
" Don't lie. I'm not going to do anything."
" Oh! but I'm not! really it's a won-"
" Your eyes turned up, when some people lie, they eyes turn up to think of somethings. Your hands turned over into a clasped position saying you're more of nervous than calm when I asked."
She's shocked and so am I, he takes a bite of the cookie and then looks at me to which I look away and he stares at me; deep black eyes pierced into, and I just look away because if I looked back what if he jumps me and I gotta kick and scream like that would be so embarrassing!
" Are you nervous?
" No, never"
" Hm...You look uncomfortable" He continued eating and I looked at Maria with a head tilt.
" So, what's making me uncomfortable."
" Your clothes, your shoes are hurting your feet by the way you walked quickly, and you have the heels of them off" He responded quickly, and I was shocked I mean he didn't lie. I just look and Maria excused her and mouthed ' Whoop his ass' and went to the bathroom, so now it's just us. We look at each other and I just shook my head and began eating again. He just looks at me and then turns his body towards me completely.
" What?"
" Do you like your position here?"
If I had the choice between working here and $20, I would pick $20 and a bag of skittles, it has it benefits from time to time but it not worth the headaches and long hours and I tell him just that. He hums and says nobody ever been that honest and I could care less, I listen and eat when he asked another question.
" If you're really don't like how you look why don't you change it"
It wasn't even a question it was like a statement like he knew, he knew from when he stared at me, he watched me. I look at him shocked and I just chuckled and threw the rest of my food away and left, texting Maria that I got sick. Walking away I see him get up and follow me, so ignored him; he just walked beside me and just looks either at me or around him hunched over like he finna throw up. Like what compells somebody to say that? Did he think I'm the one to try to play around with thing you'll get a good joke ooutta me? I should've shoved that damn drink up his stuck up ugy big headed-
" Your mumbling"
"...ok"
" If what I said made you mad just say it"
" If I did I'll go to jail for man slaughter."
He just chuckled, even though I'm pissed he sounded a little smexyyy but, I'll still beat his ass. I keep walking towards the parking lot, and he grabbed my arm asking can he be honest.
" I mean if back there wasn't honest I don't know what is"
He just stared (he got a staring problem) and began talking about how he meant that he saw me adjusting my jacket a habit he saw a lot of girls do when they want to look slimmer, then he saw the look his manger gave us me when I walked past, he said it was in utter disgust. As he went on all the insecurities from the past came again the girl inside of me just began to show, I looked at him blank, my hands started to sweat, my thoughts ran through me like a train, and I couldn't hold it anymore as a sob slipped through like butter from my mouth. I wiped my face and took a deep breath.
" Being a girl in Japan is hard, being black in Japan is harder, being a fat girl and black in Japan is like a war zone every day in my mind. From stares, to the so called ' complements', to everything inside growing out of me is like a constant war zone. Having men look at me like a 3rd class citizen is the problem, having girls treat me like I'm beneath them was the problem and no one had a problem with it."
" But who could care? It's not like I can change what they say with the attitude they expect from a black girl. I'm not perfect but, they wanted me to be and how am I going to achieve that? Huh?"
I stopped for one second and he just said nothing, all the bottled-up feelings I've had just overwhelmed me and I overshared.
" I think your perfect"
" Lying is a sin ya'know"
" Then good I'm an atheist. Your look is perfect."
How can somebody look perfect? With a body like this, my skin to people in this country are like a permanent plague, and my hair is just a warning to them on its own. I am not perfect, but he thinks I am. He's trying to help me feel better and it's not going to work.
" If this is perfect then-'
" You're not going to believe something if you denie it so much."
This man says that beautiful is different to everyone, like what people grew up with which is skinny, fair skin, and cute people they think it's a standard and everyone that's not all three of those traits are ugly. He said the way I feel is how he felt as a child he was never built manly, he was always so small and skinny people thought he was sick. It never bothered him; he seemed wiser as a kid then the whole world at its years; I couldn't even disagree with any statements I always found how people views change when they see unique things or common things and associate them with ugliness or beauty.
" For a homeless man your very smart"
"...I'm not homeless."
" Oh...then why you dress like you've seen a clothing store in life."
" I have seen a clothing store. I just don't see the appeal of dressing up."
He's an emo hippie. But nevertheless, I just listen and make my own few points. We continued walking and he stops me again.
" What's your name?"
" Reader Last Name, and your?
" Call me L"
' Hello L"
" Hello Reader"
Now we walk in comfortable silence, by the time I'm by the garage L asked for my number, his contact now ' Emo Hippie' and mines?
'My Perfect'
A.N: ( i finshed! I love this one because i feel this irl about my body type but, i got over it and it's kind of hard to write L's dialogue without making him sound rude because he's only nonchalant. But, let me know if you like it!

I Hear the Sunspot Ep 4 Stray Thoughts
Last week, we got insights into Taichi’s sad backstory, learning that neither of his separated/divorced parents wanted him. He ended up moving in with his grandfather as a result. Taichi convinced Kohei to help act as zombies for the film club, and then later told off a girl who developed a crush on Kohei for her insensitive attraction to him. Later, when Taichi half-mumbled his story to Kohei, Kohei told Taichi off for waving him off when Taichi was the one who insisted Kohei speak up for himself, and Taichi relented and shared his story properly. Unfortunately, it appears that Kohei’s hearing is worsening.
Oh no. What’s up with the dad? Where is he?
Okay, mom just has a life and doesn’t want to give that up. I hope that it isn’t too serious.
Is Taichi going to work at the restaurant he met ole girl at? Glad we’re following up on the minimum wage poster.
I hope Kohei does well on this test!
This series of cuts showing Taichi getting used to his job at the restaurant are done well.
Yes! Good job, mom! Make Kohei ask Taichi out!
I love how committed they are to Taichi wearing shirts with American cities and states on them.
Wow, they’re actually wearing masks in a hospital. What a concept. It’s an interesting choice, too, since Kohei has been relying on reading lips.
Welp, confirmed his hearing his getting worse.
Interesting. I’m curious how Kohei responds to learning that Taichi didn’t tell him about a crush.
WE’RE AT THE OPENING SHOT.
I love, love, love when a character is asked if they like someone and they admit it.
Oh no…please don’t have a major understanding about Miho.
And there it is.
Save us, Chicago shirt!
No, don’t distance yourself from Taichi!!
Not them teasing a kiss for next week so I don’t feel too sad.
I absolutely love that Taichi didn’t process the seriousness of how much Kohei liked him when they took shelter in the rain. I am looking forward to them unpacking the issues around Miho, where Taichi wants to shelter Kohei from ableism, but Kohei thinks something else romantic is probably going on. Taichi isn’t a quitter, so I’m also excited to see him confront Kohei again, and get the mom blessing!

I've wanted the Our Generation Clydesdale Holiday Horse since I first saw him, but since I have very limited space I have a policy of not buying doll stuff (especially something as big as a horse!) unless I have a plan for it, and I couldn't find a good excuse to get him... until now.
I finished The Ghost Wind Stallion earlier this week, and it's definitely my new favorite Kaya book. I loved the character of Ghost himself, and I've decided whenever I do get my Speaking Rain custom, she'll need her horse.
For anyone who hasn't read the book, Ghost is described as very muscular, with dark eyes, a proud face, long, shining silver mane and tail, and a coat so white it's almost silver with small black spots. I plan to use this OG horse, but take the fur "cuffs" off the hooves, and after covering his mane and tail, I'm going to spatter black dye on his coat for his distinctive Appaloosa markings.

Hello!
Tomorrow is my birthday and i hope you dont mind if i request you. If you could write a neteyam and human reader where she is deaf (because im deaf to lol) and after the ambush quaritch made, they have to take her with them, to the metkayina. Neteyam finds out she doesn't speak since she is deaf and doesn't hear herself, so he learns the metkayina sign language. But poor boy finds out she knows the american sign language (or one from earth). Also, only jake, her and norm knows it
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!!
I did my best to make sure my gift to you is the best! I hope you can enjoy this! And enjoy the rest of your birthday, have a nice treat and celebrate!

“What is she doing here? Not that I don't mind” Lo’al tells spider. Lo’ak and his siblings left to look for one of the old battle grounds to find anything interesting. But spider decided to bring a plus one to the trip.
“I thought it would be good and nice if she enjoys the outdoors from time to time” Spider replies. Next to him was a girl whom the sully’s sees on a rare occasion outside of the lab. Standing next to spider, with a shy posture she gives the kids a small smile and waves at them a ‘hello’.
“Well then let's go” lo’ak shrugs as takes lead of the small group. Spider guides his friend to be in the middle of the group as he walks behind her. The sully kids failed to see what the unique communication spider and his friend were having.
It was dark, wet from the rain, and being held down tightly from strangers she has never met before. The girl was having constant internal screams about how she would get out of it. Looking at the rest of the teens, she can see kiri moving her lips, by body movement, she can guess kiri was doing a prayer of some sort. Perhaps praying for someone to save them. And really, the girl does want to be saved. Go back to the lab and in her comfy bed. Pretend the capture/hostage situation was a bad dream.
Slowly and carefully she scans spider and the rest, to make sure they are calm. Especially the little one. Poor baby must be scared to death!
However, she noticed everyone turning their heads to a certain direction, she followed their eyes. But all she sat was darkness. Perhaps it is the help they all prayed for?
“Here, this will help you feel better” Neteyam tells the silent human girl. Placing the bowl in front of her face, she jumped a bit startled. Looking up at him, she makes a gesture with her hand and chin and accepts the bowl. Neteyam thought it was but gave her a short smile and left her to eat in peace.
Neteyam doesn't know much about the silent girl. Seen her only a handful of times. And even then, she was mostly with spider. And speaking of spider, he felt bad for his friend being taken from the demons. Whatever or wherever he is, he can only hope spider is safe.
“And why must we bring her with us!? She would stand out! Nobody from any clan will accept us with her!” Neytiri screeches to Jake as they discuss about leaving the Omatikaya clan. Jake was pacing back and forth, taking deep breaths. Being careful to say the right words.
“She knows as much as spider. The RDA knows that kid is here and will likely look for her. And if they find her, they find everyone. Spider may not say a word to the RDA but they know there is another. It leaves us no choice. We have to take her with us”.
Outside from the tent, their children were listening really closely. The four siblings all looked at each other and then silently to the girl who was staring at the bonfire. To leave their home, everything they ever knew was devastating. And to take a human who so far hasn't spoken a word would make things difficult to coming to terms with.
“If she comes with us, how will that work?” Tuk asks silently. Neteyam gives it a moment of thought before walking over to the girl.
The girl stared at the fire, feeling the bright warmth. Would follow the little burning sparks as it fades away. How it dances and sways, never still always moving. Even if the fire stays in one spot, its movements never conform. So hypnotic and soothing.
At least it was that until a large hand touched her shoulder.
She quickly turns her head to see who it was. The boy who gave her some food. His mouth was moving, but all she could do was look at him. Perhaps he doesn't know? Turning her body towards him, she points to herself with her finger, and then moves her finger from the chin up to her ear.
She observed the boy in front of her, his lips moving downwards and eyes moving slightly. Confused is most likely what he is feeling. And again he moves his mouth, with his hands moving as well but none of the hand moves he makes forms any words.
This will be tricky to communicate.
“I'm sorry, I don't know what this hand thing you do” Neteyam says. He huffs out a bit frustrated. Looking down at the girl, and the girl seems to understand. He looks over to his fathers table of computers and tablets. There was a small tablet at the end of the table. Grabbing it he hands it to the girl.
And it made the girl smile, her shoulders relaxing. Quickly she types in some words and flips it for him to read.
“I am deaf. I cannot hear you. I cannot speak, for I am mute”
Neteyam read the sentence over and over. Letting this new found information settle in. He looked at her, who was smiling.
“You mean, you can't hear me? Can't hear anything?” he asks. The girl turns the tablet to type something else. And again, she flips it over.
“I can not hear anything. Your sound, the sound of others. From the roars of the ikrans, to things being moved. I can't hear. That is how I am.”
This opened a new window of perception to neteyam. A human who cant hear? How did that work? Or, not work in this case. To hear nothing but silence? It boggled his mind. Is this why he never heard her voice?
Taking the tablet he does his best to type out some words.
“If you can't hear, then how do you go on everyday?”
The girl reads it and takes it back to reply.
“I heighten my other senses. More specifically, sense of touch and feel. I do my best to feel the vibrations of everything. My eyes are also sharp. No means am I perfect on it. I get distracted sometimes”.
And that is how they communicated for the few hours they had together. Neteyam couldn't help but take interest in the girl. Yet somehow despite the long time of “chatting”, not once did neteyam ask for her name.
After so many long talks and arguments. It was settled. The sully family and the young girl all left to seek a new home for the better safety of the children. For the entire travel, the girl was with neteyam. He did his best to bring her comfort.
Everything was happening so fast, new regions the girl has never seen before. And before she had the chance to admire the environment, they had to move forward. Between sunny days and dark thunderous nights,
The other siblings did their best to make the trip as comfortable for her as possible, but there was so much they could do. Of course she took the tablet to type out her words but the battery can last only for so long. So the tablet is used only for emergencies.
But alas, they reached the final destination. In view, was the clear blue waters of a beautiful island. White earth covering connecting the blue ocean. The girl was in awe, the na’vi also looked different yet similar at the same time. Many with interesting tattoos!
Climbing down from the ikran, the girl was able to feel the warm yet wet sand. Felt funny but it was soft, seeing ahead, tuk was looking at the gathering crowd. Neteyam guides the girl to look up at him. He gestures to stand close behind him. Complying she does so.
As they all walk up to the crowd, two na’vi walked up to jake and the others. Conversation was happening as she sees their mouths moving.
She tries her best to understand but all her thoughts were stopped as the female na’vi walked up to her. Glaring down with her clear eyes.
“And what of her?” Ronal asks as she inspects the quiet sky demon in front of her. Jake walked to them, keeping his hands out for ronal to see.
“She cant speak, not even hear. We will watch over her. I promise, if she must, she will also learn your ways” Jake pleaded. Ronal glaces at him and then back at the girl. Small in height, not very threat looking.
So she turns and has a silent conversation with Tonowari.
“They accept” The girl thought. A small smile broke out from her face, feeling relieved. By observing the two leaders, simply watching their eyes was enough to tell her many things. They did always say, the silence can speak a thousand words.
“Can you do that again? “ Neteyam asks tsireya. She happily does so. She, ao’nung and rotxo were teaching the sully children how to speak in sign language. This is one lesson neteyam payed attention to in great detail. Tried to mesmerize what each movement is for.
“You seem more eager with our finger talk than actually swimming” Ao’nung comments. “He wants to talk to our friend. '' Tuk applies the small information ith a happy, shameless smile. Her siblings were quick to scold her.
“Why doesn't your friend join us? It would be interesting to get to know her” Rotxo says. Lo’ak shakes his head, “well good luck with that. She is deaf”.
“Lo’ak!” Neteyam shouts.
This raised some curiosity with the metkayina children.
“You mean, she can't hear anything? At all?” Tsireya asks, all the sully kids nodded. While loss of hearing wasn't entirely impossible, such a rarity in fact, it doesn't stop one from searching for methods to communicate.
“Well, all the more reasons to bring her with you! I would like to meet her and chat” Tsireya says with a happy smile. Now feeling more eager, tsireya and the others do their best for the sully kids to hone the new skill and perhaps have better communication with the girl.
The girl in question felt the familiar footsteps of neteyam. Turning to see him enter, he had a bright smile on his face. Curious, she had her full attention on him. Neteyam moved his hands, making unfamiliar signs. It looked like sign language but all the movements were wrong and couldn't make out anything.
Tilting her head, he gives him a confused expression.
Neteyam sees this and tries again, making sure he made all the right signs like how tsireya taught him.
“You do not understand?” He signs to her. And again, the girl shrugs and looks to be a bit lost by his communication. Sighing, he grabs the emergency tablet to type.
“I was learning sign language today. That was what I was trying to do with you. I thought I learned it correctly, was there no sign readable?”
The girl reads his message and forms her mouth to the shape of an “oh”. Finally understanding, she replies to him.
“I understand now. The sign language you were learning is na’vi language. The language I sign is english. So there is still a barrier”
Her shoulders shake, as if she was laughing silently. Poor boy went through hours of learning how to sign only to be fruitless in the end. Neteyam hangs his head low. Feeling slightly embarrassed. Of course it would be english. Nobody, not even from his clan, new of the sign language of their people.
Grabbing the tablet, he says “well it seems we both have learning to do”
The next day, neteyam brought the silent girl to meet the metkayina children. She felt slightly overwhelmed but felt happy to be included. Tisreya was more than eager to talk to the gently sky demon, but neteyam informed her the sign language she spoke was still of sky demon language.
So to combat it, Tsireya took it upon herself to personally teach both neteyam and the girl how to speak with their hands.
And to say, it was no easy feat.
Having an extra finger, there were things that needed to be adjusted. But not impossible oh no. If anything, the girl was just as eager to learn a new language. And with steady ease did she manage to have conversations with neteyam and the other kids!
Things were not as awkward as before. Needing the tablet less and less. Almost forgotten. The girl smiled more, and became very active. From swimming to doing her part in the clan. She felt like it was a second chance. No more white cold metal walls but see the beautiful ocean every day. To be as free and easily speak with others better than she ever did back at the forest.
As she sees it, it was a rebirth, and a rebirth requires a new name.
“Good morning Palang” Tuk signs to palang. Stretching out her limbs, letting the morning sunlight rays hit her skin, palang signs back, “Good morning tuktuk”.
Another glorious day. Getting up, palang gets ready for the day. Communicating with sending specific vibrations or hand signs, everyone in the pod does their morning routine. Today, palang and neteyam have hunting and gathering duties. Something both have come to love.
“Palang don't forget, you have to assist tuk with her lessons” Neytiri signs to palang. She nods to confirm, “Yes netyiri, I will make sure she doesn't skip this time”. She goes to the edge, ready to dive as neteyam walks up beside her.
“Are you ready palang?” Neteyam signs to her. Palang smiles, the shine of the sun competing with the shine of her eyes. “Yes, lets do this!” she signs back. Both jump into the water and dive deep. The oceanic colors and life never cease to amaze them. Truly, Palang feels completed and hopes to grow further alongside her greatest friend, neteyam.
Aaaaaaand that is all everyone! Anon, I hope you liked this fic and all of you liking it as well~!
I typed this with sleepy eyes and brain, If i made mistakes please tell me!
Until next time! See ya!

This is going to be a cranky post.
The thing that is unique about American Girl dolls is the idea of helping kids gain awareness of history through characters' stories and the dolls, clothes, and objects that bring them to life. I learned about the change in women's roles in World War II from Molly. I learned about the challenge of going to school speaking a different language from Kirsten. I want that for kids now. There's a value to the characters and stories beyond just making money.
I'm annoyed by AG's announcement that the Disney princess dolls are permanent, in the context of AG having discontinued and not brought back some of their historical characters (like Marie-Grace and Cécile) and greatly reducing collections of other historical dolls. AG doesn't even carry the books for some of the historical characters anymore. Either you have room for a lot of characters or you don't. And if you do, then could someone in a decision-making position please place value on the historical characters that authors have created rather than just rewarming already-out-there characters that will sell?
No one's understanding of life is going to be forever enhanced by a new version of a Disney princess doll - thay sell precisely because they're already out there so much and so kids recognize them - the way they would from learning about characters living in different historical circumstances.
This feels like something one or two individuals in the right positions in the company could be doing a better job with.
If you're excited about the princess dolls, my intention isn't to rain on your parade. People can like different things. I guess I just see the lie in any arguments that there's not room for the historical dolls or not enough market out there.
