"Who did this?"

"What's going on in here?" Amelia asked as she pushed open the door to see her son standing in front of her with a grin spread across his face. Her eyes widened at the sight of something behind him. "What is that?" Scout merely shrugged before stepping back. "Who did this?"

"Me and Allison, she came over after school to make sure I didn't burn the house down," Scout muttered, leading Amelia to the kitchen table. "Happy birthday!"

"It's 9 at night," she grinned, pulling him into a hug. "I love it, though."

"You were working all day. I think the cake's a little cold, though; sorry about that." He cringed as he looked at it. "Writing with frosting is not as easy as it seems."

"Hey, this is easily the best thing you've ever done for my birthday," she kissed his head. "Thank you for this." Amelia walked over to the cabinet and pulled out two plates, setting them on each side of the cake and picking up the knife. "Looks like we're having cake for our next few meals."
