Headcanon time: I like to headcanon that when the Ame Orphans were training under Jiraiya, Yahiko tried to get Jiraiya to teach him how to summon toads. While Yahiko never learned how, since Jiraiya had to leave, he always thought it would be cool.

I think in an AU where the Ame Orphans moved to the Hidden Leaf Village, Yahiko would have managed to learn the toad summoning contract. I could see him as a kid finally managing to summon a small toad, while Konan and Nagato give him a high-five.

Headcanons Part 4

This is just some miscellaneous head canons. There may or may not be a part 5. Happy birthday, Yahiko and Konan!

Yahiko and Konan thought it was a fun coincidence that they have the same birthday, and maybe a sign that they were meant to be together. They would always try to get a cake that day, either by stealing or buying when they were older.

Yahiko liked to fish, and everyone in the Akatsuki enjoyed eating what he caught. Even later on, fresh-cooked fish was nostalgic for Nagato and Konan.

Konan and Nagato designed both versions of the Akatsuki robes (the ones prw-yahiko's death as well as the iconic ones with the clouds.) Nagato was the one to create the policy of the group all wearing nail polish after Yahiko died.

After Yahiko died, Nagato became reclusive (with his real body.) Only a handful of people knew what he actually looked like, anyone else only saw the Paths of Pain. Partly because of internalized ableism, partly shame for letting Yahiko die, partly because he didn't want to be seen as weak.

Headcanons Part 5, Last Ones for Now

Nagato likes hot beverages like coffee and tea a lot, especially after he became emaciated and had no fat to keep him warm. Konan prefers tea when relaxing, but coffee when she has to focus.

Konan was born in a wealthy (at least by Ame standards) family, and her father had a lot of pride in his status. He was very strict. On the other hand, Yahiko's family was dirt poor. Konan's father forbid her from playing with Yahiko, but she would sometimes sneak out if her dad wasn't around. Her mother was less strict.

Konan and Nagato both learned how to read earlier than average. He dad taught her, and Nagato used a mix of his parents and self-teaching to learn. Konan taught Yahiko how to read.
