"COLORFUL LEGACY"

Called "one of Philadelphia's finest muralists," Biloxi-born Willis "Nomo" Humphrey was a founding member of @AmberPublicArt and an integral part of Philadelphia's Mural Arts team. With his sudden passing in late 2018 @MuralArts says they lost "a role model, a collaborator, and consummate public artist, always giving and sharing and creating." Keir Johnston studied fine art at Cal State Northridge and painted his first mural at 18. An advocate for many social issues Johnston has created a number of collaborative murals with penitentiary inmates, students, disabled, and a variety of other community groups. In 2015 Humphrey and Johnston led a Mural Arts team of collaborators painting this wall on Chestnut St in Philadelphia's University City, "illuminating the systemic challenges facing boys and men of color."  @willisnomo/

F.A.C.T Fathers and Children Together (design) © 2015 Amber Art & Design / Ernel Martinez!👍🏼in partnership with Mural Arts Program! Up on the wall and culminating this June. "One of the unintended consequences of our criminal justice system is that families get broken up. Children are often hurt, through no fault of their own, by the actions of a parent. When a parent is incarcerated, it becomes almost impossible to have a normal relationship with a child. [...] The project is a collaborative effort between Mural Arts and the United Community Action Network at SCI Graterford, a maximum-security prison where we hold art classes and where murals are painted. FACT helps fathers who are incarcerated to reconnect with their children, in the hope that these men can become positive role models and encourage their children to make positive life decisions." "ALLENTOWN ON THE RISE"

Applying their philosophy that art can provide a "platform to initiate critical conversation" to work in hundreds of neighborhoods across the United States and internationally, Philadelphia's Amber Art & Design collective projects have engaged thousands of community participants. 50 miles north of Philly and its long established mural culture, Allentown PA created the ArtsWalk Mural Project to enhance downtown and make art more accessible to the public. In 2015 Amber collective’s late co-founder Willis "Nomo" Humphrey submitted a design for the pedestrian ArtsWalk and was soon overseeing the installation of this stylized sunrise on two sides of the parking structure at Church and Court Streets.  @amberpublicart/  @CityCenterAllentown/
