I wrote more fix-it straight fanfiction for a movie that came out in and I can't stress this enough 2004 [twenty years ago. twink matt damon is long dead now. RIP.] at this point I am just impressed I waited seven months. not my fault it's the singular most beautiful and tragic heterosexual love story put to screen. Maybe it's the fault of the Universal executives who doomed me to care this much when I first watched as a 12 year old girl. Consider that.

A continuation of my last fic; now no longer mostly canon-compliant flashbacks but mostly following the emotional repercussions of what-if feat. immovable object of CIA assassin emotional repression vs. unstoppable force of crazy unemployed German woman who believes in the ultimate redemptive power of love. Sadly I am joking here to hide the extent to which this is the most romantic and sincerely emotional Fanfiction I have ever written 💚💙💘

What did you think of recursion by Blake crouch?? I read Upgrade and wasn’t super impressed but all the reviews/hype around Recursion make me think I’m gonna love it

i thiiiiiiiink i copped the Recursion rec like a year ago off @amanitaphalloides who reported being genuinely emotionally touched by it. I like it! I also read Dark Matter by mr crouch this year and that one is not as good imo. i believe i previously described it as "like gogurt." With Recursion things get cranked to 11 pretty early and stay at that energy level. and also there's a woman with autonomy there (not that true for Dark Matter iirc). and a surprisingly robust on-page emotional core, versus, like, an offscreen motivational wife. My review is: give it a shot! Great for trains planes or automobiles.

Movie thoughts under the cut:

1) I ’m thinking of ending things was the first movie I watched this year and I truly adored it. It was brilliantly written and featured some powerhouse performances. I read the book immediately after finishing, and while the book and movie have some key differences, I think the film was a phenomenal act of translation. Both left me with the bone deep chill of an intricate, sick dream and I found it difficult to shake.

2) persuasion is great! I also read the book after finishing and it quickly became my favorite Austen. Hard to beat second chances at love.

3) Dracula 2000 is an unsung classic. Dracula is revealed to be Judas iscariot. 10/10 no notes

4) You complain about a life that YOU chose. You are not a victim. Not at all. Your generosity conceals something dirtier and meaner. You're incapable of facing your ambitions and you resent me for it, but I'm not the one who put you where you are. I had nothing to do with it! You're not sacrificing yourself as you say. You choose to sit on the sidelines because you're afraid! Your pride makes your head explode before you can even come up with a germ of an idea! You wake up at 40 needing someone to blame. You're the one to blame! You're petrified by your own fucking standards and your fear of failure! This is the truth!

5) a triumphant testament to the enduring and indefatigable soul of the himejoshi. I love any movie that is written and directed like a play. I cried watching it and then also like a week later in the shower thinking about it

6) BRILLIANT FILM. Hands down the best horror I saw this year. La Llorona weaves the personal and the historical seamlessly. Deeply haunting and shockingly cathartic. A must see for anyone who cares about horror, history, or justice.

7) WHAT IS THERE TO SAY THAT HASNT BEEN SAID. A dirty gut punch of a film. This movie sat me down and made me confront some important things in myself that I had been avoiding. I’ve never seen dysphoria depicted in such a raw, honest, and unflinching way. I tend to agree with the director’s takeaway—this isn’t a cautionary tale, rather a brutal (but deftly crafted!) examination of what transition can mean. This movie made me write a chapbook. This is cheating bc the film did come out this year but I wanted to talk about it

8) if I haven’t texted you directly about this movie count your blessings. I need a lawyer present to discuss it. Honestly just message me about it I’ve got a minimum of 5 paragraphs locked and loaded.

9) i also watched this movie for the first time this year! After we watched it my friends and I spent a solid 20 minutes bemoaning the death of color and film. I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like it before. What a gory, decadent gem of a film.

Well I was right to be impressed by myself waiting 7 months between fics last time, as I then immediately wrote this in like 2 crazy weeks and spent many multiples of that time editing it + trying to give my wonderful beta @amanitaphalloides a break from bearing witness to my progressing insanity about this ship. In my [extremely limited] defence, technically I have only written canon divergency so far, so here is something fully canon compliant. Yes this has gone past the cry for help stage but what can you do. <3

I checked your link, which makes sense but says it's US slang, so I checked further and found this: https://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/19/messages/1171.html Which confirms your source but also gives a little more info, and apparently it was used by whalers, which would fit for Navy men, and James who's used more victorian slang to use it

They did film the scene (iirc) but they didn't keep it in because Dave thought it would falter next to the "Do you plan on being the worst kind of first as well?" and Francis hitting James in front of people.
