Don't know why Darren is in one of the pictures. Maybe he visited the set?

amandalaurena: I can’t believe it’s been a year and half since we wrapped production on HIT MAN...what is time?! I remember exactly where I was sitting, in the middle of the pandemic, when Glen came across this Texas Monthly Article. It was so cool to witness every single step of this process from acquiring the IP, drafting the script, casting talent, rehearsals, shooting, and finally witnessing the final final product at the Austin Premiere a few days ago. This film is really something. Funny, witty, thought provoking, and super sexy. I’m so proud to have been a part of this one and REALLY excited for the whole world to fall madly in love with it. Oh, and if you look closely you may just see a familiar face in the background of a scene or two ;) HIT MAN will be in select theaters on May 24th & available on Netflix starting June 7th! 🎬✨#hitman #netflix #film #premiere #glenpowell #richardlinklater

Darren has been a long-time pal of Glen Powell, he met him both through Chord Overstreet, as these two have been pals and roomies at times, but also because Glen broke through on Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens. Chord has the large Nashville, Tennessee family with a deep country music legacy, while Glen’s huge extended family is from Austin, Texas (the more artsy and liberal part of Texas) and loves the movie-making business. The two southern boys in RM’s stable became pals, and they both became friends with Darren. They support one another’s efforts.
We have gotten at least one set of photos of Darren, Chord and Glen together in an apartment in NYC in years past, so I suspect they shared expenses at some point while they worked on various projects for RM and others. Actors don’t make that much to throw it away on expensive rentals. These guys were friends with Glen when he was on his way up, and they were the bigger stars, so now that Glen has broken through big-time on Top Gun, he is sharing some of his new-found power to create his own projects. He has a strong family support system behind him, and Glen, his friends, and his family as well as his co-workers ALL seem to be working in tandem to hitch to his star right now and propel him forward. That includes all aspects of this production, which sold to Netflix and is getting high praise from the industry.
Darren, along with Glen’s sister and other friends and family, appears to have worked various on-set jobs behind the camera on Hit Man when it filmed in New Orleans. We got some instagram posts about it at the time, though we didn’t know what it was for, exactly. They possibly all served as extras in scenes at various points. Glen’s whole family probably is in that movie somewhere. NOLA is a great place for film tax incentives, one of the top 5 in the U.S., Ryan Murphy filmed Scream Queens there at Tulane University, (filmed AHS-Coven there, too) and it’s not that far from Texas and his family.
Glen apparently found this true story, optioned the story from the writer, co-wrote a great script based on the idea, and developed it with Richard Linklater, one of many directors he wanted to work with in his career, and helped produce the movie as well as starring in it. It has been well-received and well-reviewed all around and should be a big boost to his career as a rising star with some real power going forward. In some ways, it looks like he is taking on the young Matthew McConaughey mantle, (nothing is new in Hollywood, everyone is a “type” to the moneymen), and it would be cool, and a great p.r. move for both, if they worked together on something in the near future as McConaughey, too, is talking of moving back to his home state. There has been talk of MM running for Governor one day.
While I am not particularly a fan of Glen’s acting or looks, though plenty are, I really admire his hustle and his smarts, especially the kudos he is getting for the excellent script. He and Darren seem to have a similar work ethic. He is leaning in heavily on both his Texas roots and his family ties, which is a huge part of his charm, and is moving back home (and away from Hollywood and NYC) at his mom’s request. This will set him apart from other actors, and keep him real (as opposed to phoney influencer type) in the eyes of fans. He knows his brand, smart, sexy, funny, interested in all levels of the creative process itself, and his family is all over his social media, cheering him on but also forever making fun of him as the big movie star so he does not get full of himself. I think the whole thing is brilliant.
Don't know why Darren is in one of the pictures. Maybe he visited the set?
