i was putting away groceries and was talking about body paint and then my dad starts playing the glastonbury 23 and I immediately knew and I went "that's glastonbury 23." and he was astounded that I knew, beyond the point. but then he goes "I see why you love this man so much and crush on him" like. good. tf.

This is a rant that's going to make me unpopular and make me lose the 3 followers I have (not literally and I appreciate all of you) but like... I've been real bummed out about the AM fandom recently. It just feels so toxic.

Like, I love the band so so so much and their music means the world to me and I fully moved heaven and earth and totally drained my bank account to see them as many times as I could this tour but goddammit. Some of the fandom is really draining and takes away from the experience.

There just seems to be such a weird willingness to invade people's privacy, there's such a handwave-y attitude towards harassment and hurtful behaviour, and there's a really troubling sense of entitlement to all this because "they're public figures" as if public figures aren't also humans who deserve basic decency. Orrrrr on the flipside there's just unyielding worship with absolutely no room for criticism of anything to do with the band or anyone who associates with them. It's just twisted.

It was easier to tolerate while the tour was happening because at least there was a shared sense of excitement about the tour itself but now that its over it feels like a lot of what's left is the negativity and that blows. The TLSP fandom (which obviously has a lot of overlap) is a bit better imo but then people get weird and up in arms about Milex shit and that's unnecessary too.

Idk. I just want a fun safe place to geek out about the music and overanalyze some things for fun without getting bogged down in nonsense or having to see people actively be dicks to the folks we're talking about. Is that too much to ask?
