Alex Morgan : La Footballeuse la mieux payée du Mondial 2023 !
Tumblr media
Alex Morgan = 6,4 M€ 2. Megan Rapinoe = 6,3 M€ 3. Alexia Putellas = 3,6 M€ 4. Trinité Rodman = 2,1 M€ 5=. Cristal Dunn = 1,8 M€ 5=. Julie Ertz = 1,8 M€ 5=. Sophie Smith = 1,8 M€ 8. Lindsey Horan = 1,4 M€ 9. Rose Lavelle = 1,3 M€ 10. Sophie Huerta = 1,2 M€ 11=. Ada Hegerberg = 1 M€ 11=. Chloé Kelly = 1 M€ 11=. Kerr seul = 1 M€ 11=. Kelley O'Hara = 1 M€ 15. Statement from U.S. Soccer. I still think the apology could be better, even though the policy was stupid in the first place.

OKAY. Olympic Qualifying Roster. Here we go:
Keepers - no surprises there. Solid three. Gonna be tough to cut one (between AD and Ash). I don’t think now is the time for Vlatko to be shaking up this position but super glad he’s been bringing in a rotation for camps. THEY ARE ALL SO GOOD. Super excited to see Jane and Aubrey more in DUE TIME.
Defense - woo. Alright. Things to UNPACK HERE.
Becky, Abby, Crystal, Kelley. Whom is shocked? No one. That is a solid fucking line. (Though I am ETERNALLY grateful a certain badass, adorable, psycho’s ankles have returned from war.)
I’m gonna skip over to those who didn’t make it for a hot sec here. Tierna. Who apparently is still injured. So, makes sense. Big bummer for her at the moment, but she’s young and really should just focus on getting that ankle healthy. And Casey. Who is amazing. So so so so good. HOWEVER. Barring any injury, I can see why she was left off. She’s a left outside back, and I haven’t seen her play anywhere else. With a limited roster, you want players who can fill more than one spot. That, plus she is less of an attacker up the sides like Crystal, Kelley, Ali, and Sonnett all are.
Back to the roster.
Ali, YAY. Obvious choice with her work ethic, international experience, and solid defending. (I am so happy for her.) also. Ya don’t split up the newlyweds.
And lil Miss SONNY. What a 2020 so far, amirite? Since she’s one of those ‘on the fence’ ones, I’ve got things to say. First off. VERS-A-TIL-ITY. She’s typically a right back for the NT, but she kicks ASS at center back in club and proved in the last friendly that she can hold her own on the left side. God forbid any of the starters in the back line go down, she can step in anywhere. She’s aggressive and has an attacking mentality, v much a part of what makes the US so successful as a team. AND LASTLY. This is an underrated thing, and not an on-field strength... but her personality and way of keeping the team entertained and energized. That’s hard to do in a tournament like the World Cup or Olympics and it’s imperative to have players who can keep spirits up.
Now midfield.
We are stacked. Obvi. Rose, Julie, Sam, and sweet Lindsey were no brainers. They bring creativity, strength, good distribution, and a lethalness off set pieces. Andi is a smart decision to round out this group too. Moe and Allie are both great players, but this midfield lineup is tough to break. (sad for Kelley, Alex AND Allie aren’t there for her for roomies or bus buddies.)
Now those FORWARDS.
Miss PINOE, Toblerone Heath, Pressy, and Carli were a given. It will be super interesting to see who starts out of those four. (I don’t care about Carli being old, she’s still got it and will work her ass off to get that gold.) Buuuuuut, I think Pinoe Press and Heath start.
Now Jess and Lynn are interesting but tbh, unsurprising picks. Alex is pregnant, duh. And they both bring speed and scoring abilities. They’ve shown UP for club and clearly have done well in camp too. Though, they are both on the chopping block if Alex Morgan makes a miraculous post-partum recovery.
I will say my heart breaks for Mal though. She’s been on this team since she was 17 so I’m sure it’s hard to be 21 and feel like maybe she peaked too early. I DONT THINK SHE HAS. But I do think she needs time to re-evaluate and figure out the kind of player she wants to be. Hopefully Sky Blue will be good for her!! And I am so happy she’s still training with the team so she’s not fully left out. Tbh I could see her playing overseas in the next few years, develop over there. The baby isn’t a baby anymore and she’s just TRANSITIONING. No bad vibes there.
ALRIGHT THAT IS IT. Vlatko is playing it safe-ish, but rightly so. If it’s not BROKE, don’t fix it. Excited to see the girlies play in the qualifying matches and kick some asssssss
