important messages for those who view my blog!

Hey. This is a more down to earth message. I'm not very active here so I'm going to be making changes in the meantime.

First off, I'm thinking of making my website more inclusive. As you can see it's a very eyestrainy blog and after viewing a post on the presence of ableism in the MOGAI community, I think I'm overdue for some changes. I also think my site will look nicer and more fun to see in the process, so I'm not necessarily doing it for other people. It's rather because I want to experiment a bit. I'll change my profile pic, color palette, everything. Unfortunately my aesthetic clashes with accessibility, so I said it "f**k it, accessbility always wins!" My aesthetic shouldn't compromise anything. My blog will look more boring to a lot of people, but don't worry - sometimes being lazy is better. I'm also striving to use plain text only as well, so my pinned post will be updated too.

My website on NeoCities will remain pretty eyestrainy for the time being though. I'm making it pretty much my dumpster for the loud bright aesthetics I like without restrictions. It may not be what y'all might want but hey I think I'll like it that way.

Week 6: Social Activism

Social Activism is the act of fighting for or showing support for something that one believes in. This has been notably used by many people from many different cultures in order to protest an idea or to just increase the overall awareness of a particular topic. Many notable protests in the world normally end with the protestors getting what they want but there are also cases of activism and protests that end with the death of a few protestors. Especially in this day and age when its easy to use social media to voice out concerns to or fight for a cause.

Why social media?

Social media has always been a safe haven for many, which many of them choosing to pick sides as well as to show their support. The biggest social activism movement that was running was the latest BLM movement after the killing of George Floyd who was having a hard time breathing when the police officer knelt on his neck.

The black lives matter movement activism had reached a fever high when people started turning to social media platforms such as twitter and instagram with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. This started a craze where even celebrities and notable athletes started chiming in and allowing their thoughts to be heard as well.

Does it undermine the use of protests?

Now to the gritty part of online protest. The social interaction and physical movement was a sure fire way to show support in the masses, ensuring that those who cannot see, to hear the crowd, however this reduces the effectiveness when everything is done in terms of social media.

Another part that kills the strong usage of protests is the performative activism which claims that people would post things and talk about activism based things for the attention and that in turn would decrease the effectiveness of social activism.

Social media has been able to make the context of spreading the social activism but in a sense it has also made it undermine its own purpose through accessbility.

Mood

Awake at 2am, thoughts swerling round and round. They seem like drunk thoughts, but alas, no beer. There are only a few things that I know with absolute certainty tonight... 1. Pizza and beer should be accessble at this hour via delivery...but sadly night owls have yet to get into this risky 2am business. 2. 30 years old feels like a song and dance I have been singing out of tune in front of an audience I care nothing about. Not sure if its the year itself or the pressure of all my late 20's bubbling up into a volcanic roar. Either way it feels pretty pathetic and annoying. 3. Preworkout after 5pm is always a bad life choice. On that note---working out to be Vegas ready is dumb, and I never really realized how vain and motivated I am. Ta-ta for now, tumblr abyss.
