wdym? His wife was a really modern woman, and he cast the suffregate Ed Craig as Mina for his stage play etc etc. A character saying something in one book =\= the author saying something
That’s fair. I haven’t done much research on bram stoker as a person but I just find the passage where mina discusses the modern woman really fascinating. Obviously authors can have different views than their characters but it’s interesting how he wrote Mina’s view of the modern woman as her distancing herself from aspects she doesn’t relate to, even though from our perspective she’s a very progressive character.
Also I wasn’t trying to suggest bram disliked modern women, clearly as he wrote some really excellent female characters in Dracula, but just that in the passage talking about the movement it’s clear that Mina has a bit of a misunderstanding as to what a modern woman really represents.
#I was not crying ‘bram stoker misogynist’ lol I don’t know the guy that well#Dracula as a novel just has a really interesting relationship with modern feminist movements#I was commenting on that more so than bram’s personal views#ty for the ask!#dracula daily#dracula#bram stoker#also ty ty for the info about his wife and stuff that’s pretty sick#always feel free to infodump facts about brambraham stoker in my asks I crave it#ask#asks
