the rain had been cascading against the windows of the shanty diner for nearly seven hours: namazu had been doing nothing but keeping count of that time. seconds, minutes, hours, and he continued to track the time whilst nobody else could. nothing was the same: everybody had an essential role to fulfil now that the world had collapsed on itself: currencies, power grids, communications, and even the morals of the people. they were nowhere to be found. a dog-eat-dog world now, yet the small few survivors in the diner wished only to continue to survive, but try as they might, their days were numbered.

namazu needs not make any eye contact to speak out to kaito: his gaze forever remains fixated on the crudely boarded window, hoping that help will arrive to whisk them away from their insufficient safe haven. “kai-san. do you think things will ever be the same again??” his voice is monotonous, devoid of any hope or any emotion. namazu doubts things will go back -- ever, yet he longs to hear that somebody else has even just a grain of hope left.

It hurt, and the demon bit down on his lip, eyes squeezing shut, fingers curling into fists and nails digging into his palms as he tried not to think about the numbing burning that spread through his arm or the warmth of blood that lingered on his skin and was soaking into his by-now ruined clothes and--

Ver whimpered, tears prickling at the corners of his eyes.
