“–Of course,” duh, “though they’re not coconut coconuts, you know?” Jack gestured with his hands, trying to describe what the hell did he meant with coconuts that weren’t really coconuts. “I mean– they’re not coconuts or anything. Shit, I mean they’re just ordinary palm trees that have small fruits. Small coconuts, same difference. They’re not the edible kind, I think.”
A pause, and then Jack considered aloud: “I still have some shoots if you want. I guess I just wanted to try and cultivate a simple life form…” then came a sigh, “what the hell, I really don’t know what the fuck I’m doing.”
“So, you can’t even eat the fruits on it yet you still....” Nagai was at a bit of a loss for what to say --- what kind of person ordered a palm tree, and even moreso what kind of person ordered one that didn’t produce coconuts - just inedible food. He would have accepted, but been mildly disappointed, if it produced any other sort of food, too. Apricots, bananas, plums --- anything.
The only question remained --- “Why?”
