Woohoo! Time to break the mold! Yeesh, it's been crusting for months.
Where have I and Indie Tourney been? The simple answer is: college. It's been one ride after another both fun and challenging, sometimes one or the other, and other times both. I've been spending a lot of time meeting new friends, exploring my surroundings, and tackling a load of academics along with the search for internships and jobs. When it seems the world is throwing every responsibility at you, the best thing I can do is take my time and approach the way I think best, and that meant putting a hold on my projects... for now!
I've been itching to find a time where I can relax and populate this world once more. That time... has arrived!
Traveling Companions - A busy and bustling city of innovation and exploration, credited with popularizing the very term, "mobile", of course must fit the bill with snazzy, techy adornments. You can even spy various ships out in the river, stacked with valuable cargo and intrepid passengers hungry to unlock the secrets of the puzzle island. In the rural outskirts, you can also see Crazy Dave's Lawn, primed to play line defense.
The Chessmasters - We've spread our resources and set up camp throughout the forests. Hidden from the populous cities, these woods will allow us to carry out our operations and plot strategies with minimal chances of espionage leaking our plans to the enemy. Meet in the central camp right after our guided tour of the Pit. We are to discuss movement towards securing the Indie Artifact.
Like Clockwork - The grandest of optimizers have cleared an entire reach of the forest in the name of sheer statistics and economy. Their generators, conveyor lines, and automated logic circuits are unlike any other, and not only that... they seem to be diverging a handful of their power supply to fighting back against blue, ravenous fluid known only as Creeper. Goodness knows whether this scale of deforestation is truly justified...

This digital art piece was created by (@)ningguu on Twitter and we are so amazed by how it captures this intimate moment between Maya and her lemur friend. We also love how the colour palette makes the piece feel so warm and cozy. Thank you Ningguu!

What's up with the elders in the Alto series?
been playing alto's adventure and alto's odyssey recently (played it years ago but picked it back up after i got a new phone) and i'm just so intrigued with the world. specifically the elders.
what's up with them? what can they do? why are they there? how long have they been there? are they a friend or a foe??
the two games in the alto series kinda proves that every "region" has its own elders. the snow region has a bunch of them, but for the desert, the only elder we know of is Sumara, for some reason. but back to the snow region's elders.
Tupa. In-game he is described as "an elder who lives alone in the wilderness. some say he can harness the power of the mountain and all those who have travelled upon it." this is a VERY interesting description. because the other elders we see are all ordinary-like and feel more like sheriffs, if anything. but that's the thing. if they're elders, why are they chasing Tupa? And the rest of the alto gang? For the alto gang i guess it can be dumbed down to "young people the old people don't like"... but what about Tupa? It isn't that weird that he lives alone in the woods since all elders we've seen have their own camps. Do they chase Tupa because he's behaving the same way as the alto gang? Do they chase Tupa because they fear his abilities? Because like... the game just makes him sound like some kind of god.
In fact, the two elders who are with the alto gang are described to have a deep connection with their region. Sumara's description is "full of warmth and wisdom, Sumara shares a deep connection to the desert's wildlife, and all travellers she meets. Even the mischievous Lemurs are calmed by her presence."
The similarity between Tupa and Sumara are the fact that they have a special connection with travellers that trek their respective regions. However, the difference between them is while Tupa "harnesses the power of the mountain" (aka the environment itself), Sumara is connected to the wildlife. The way they're described in-game also really fits the regions they're in respectively which I like (Tupa being described as a sort of loner and is mysterious while Sumara is described as warm and inviting).
My headcanon is that the reason why we don't see any elders in the desert is because either Sumara is the one and only elder, or the other elders put their full trust on her for "overlooking" the desert. It fits in well with her inviting personality.
As for Tupa, I headcanon that he's the snow region's boogeyman. Due to his "harnessing the mountain" ability thing, the citizens of the snow region made him an object of fear. Perhaps the snow region wasn't even the snow region in the first place. Perhaps Tupa pulled an Elsa a long time ago. Now, many of the common folk probably donned the title of elder and even made a uniform for themselves, making them the region's police spread around the woods in hopes of capturing Tupa. Of course, they usually fail.
Also idk if it's just me but the elders in alto's adventure feel MUCH MORE TERRYFING compared to the lemurs. I play as Tupa in alto's adventure and it's always so nerve-wracking. Tupa doesn't have Sumara's mechanic where he can make peace with the elders like how Sumara is with the lemurs. That's kind of what inspired this post.
Alto's gang was probably a rebellious group of young people who went into the woods to seek out Tupa for funsies. Then the found family trope commences, and now you have a group of teenagers/young adults who can casually do things the elder of the mountains can do.
I also headcanon that probably, upon knowing that it is dangerous for alto's gang to associate with him in any way, Tupa sent them off to the desert to meet an elder and community that would treat them better as the common folk of the mountains were getting more hostile by the day. Alto's gang tried to convince Tupa to go too, but that would be the equivalent to breaking some divine law idk. So yeah.
#i rambeled a lot for this sorry#ITS JUST THE ELDER LORE IS SO INTERESTING OKAYYYY#I LOVE MY FOUND FAMILY EVEN THO THEY NEVER INTERACTED ONCE IN THEIR OWN DAMN GAME#EVEN THO THEYRE THE ONLY CHARACS IN THEIR OWN DAMN GAME#alto's adventure#alto's odyssey

continuing mobile game recommendations, i came across 'alto's odyssey' and it's very lovely
it is an endless runner type game in scenic desert, with gorgeous sights, variety, and calm music
the one downside is. it's really easy to fail. and at first u do it all the time. i rec either learning in zen mode (no fail run, no goals roached, just endless run with even more calming music), or playing solely offline (if online there's an ad after every failure which increases annoyance tenfold)

Bracket 6, Traveling Companions, have docked at our shores with a warm greeting prepared. Hear them now!
Conceived as an establishing link between the mainlands and an unexplored island of puzzles, the ports of this coastal civilization have since attracted visitors from a distant continent. They call themselves the most mobile of individuals, able to surf land, sea, sky, and even beyond the reaches of space. Upon their arrival, the visitors brought forth highly exotic gifts as an extension of friendship, with screens that could prompt action with the simple touch, and the ease of having a computer in your pocket. Their sheer utility was unmatched, but most of all, their pioneering games brought forth a whole new wave of genres in design.
The ports continue to operate as lift services to the island of Logic & Optics and now the continent of new games codified with a popular term, ‘mobile’. Many mainland denizens have already booked to travel to the new continent for studies and internships abroad.
Alto's Adventure (+ Alto's Odyssey)
Fruit Ninja (series)
Plants vs. Zombies (2009)
Canabalt
Full speed ahead! I'll be back again with new imported goods for y'all tomorrow. Take care until then! [Brackets Revealed: 68/96] [Next Reveal: The Chessmasters]

(@)atatabear on Instagram has created many Alto-inspired pieces in the past and this one is just as beautiful as the last. Filipe looks so happy to be hitting the slopes in his favourite scarf and the layers of mountains give this digital drawing so much depth. Thank you Ryan!

Day 4 - Wizard of sand
I had a short study of what I should do for the wizard of sand. I firstly wanted to make some sort of ancient Arabic woman carrying a water vase but instead of water there would be sand inside. Then the woman became a sexy man with pecs. Then the man had woman clothing like a sexy closed home worker. But it didn't make sense for him to be a wizard. Why would someone study sand magic ?
Reference time ! What does sand reminds me of ? Yes 1001 nights yes, but is there other media ? Then I remembered 2 games I really love ! Journey and alto's odyssey.
And then a character surfing on the sand made totally sens ! They would use their sand magic to control the surface ! They live in the desert and play or travel like that ! People living in the deserts tends to have these ample clothes and cover their heads so I drew a character just like that !
Isn't she too cuuuute ???

ooo how about 8 and 21 for the end of year ask game? :0c
8. Game of the year
I don't play a lot of games, but I DID rediscover Alto's Odyssey (and alto's adventure, but I like odyssey best), which is just a mobile game. It's a lot of fun and it's all I ever play
21. Something new about your place of residence
I got a new dresser! Mine has been slightly broken for years, but it broke badly enough this year (bottom drawer collapsed onto the ground) that I gave in and bought a new one. It's this one from ikea lol, I like it :)
Thank you for this ask ! :)
