omg i love this! i typically project and altify espio a bit if he wore clothes, but like, 2000's scemo so mainly just dark coloured hoodies (he doesn't really like pants). pants would be the tripp jeans though because they can hide weapons better than skinny jeans 🥴 but sweatpants are nice! espio is not afraid of a nice cardigan though if he needs to be classy (think dark academia with a bit a grunge). he used to be more traditional in my canon, but mighty was sort of 2000's alt rock at the time and my purple bisexual sorta went !!! and mirrored (before finding comfort in the style without peer pressure, even though mighty didn't say anything espio was just kinda in love). when he met silver he went more soft and hipster though, bringing back some of his traditional garb and revamping it for the vintage vibes, and returning to his initial comfort zone. still a lil edgy though, have you SEEN his weapon compartment bracelet things?!? 2021 hot topic could NEVER 🥵🤡
for the record, vector is definitely a bit more 90's hip-hop imo with a bit of outdated class (man likes his vests and layered formalwear) and maybe steampunk elements too? he listens to a lot of disco and funk but doesn't dress 70's whatsoever
charmy is a child i feel like he wears minecraft shirts 😍 what a king tho!!! he likes bowties for fancy events, probably because vector watches old doctor who but espio snuck him new who since he KNEW charmy would love matt smith (but i digress)
however i LOVE LOVE LOVE ur clothing analysis, like a lot, and i should definitely incorporate some of these hcs into mine!!!
Time to focus way too hard on my favorite boy and project onto him way too hard, because I'm still riding on the high of my new wool blend 50s style skirt I got for the colder weather and need to discuss the pleasures of dressing in a manner that pleases you.
In AUs where the Sonic characters do wear clothes on a regular basis/on the occasion that Espio does wear clothes, his wardrobe sits at an odd crossroads between turn of the century to 1940s vintage inspired attire and ancient Japanese inspired pieces.
You'd have to force Espio to wear a t shirt and jeans, he's gone on the record saying he'd rather go join forces with Eggman than don a pair of shorts (which, considering his seething contempt for the doctor, THAT'S probably the harshest thing he's ever said about ANYTHING), and he grumbles and fidgets uncomfortably any time he's in a synthetic fabric.
He just feels much more at home in cotton or linen button up tops and canvas or wool pants. Dark color palette, obviously, a ninja detective never knows when they need to slip into the shadows.
He's also got a completely historically accurate ninja outfit AND a full silk kimono, but he busts those out for very specific special occasions.
Espio's fashion sense has rubbed off onto Vector a bit, who I imagine is just really into the whole detective genre (he referenced Sherlock AND Columbo in Sonic X, plus Charmy calls him out on his love of detective books, so I bet Vector's a pulp fiction/film noir fan). Vector hasn't fully committed to the look (he strikes me as being a band tees, tattered jeans, very toned down punk guy), but he's got a couple outfits in his wardrobe that scream Maltese Falcon.
